One thing I didn’t understand is where they eikons came from. Were they originally a weapon of Ultima since he uses them in the last fight?
For a game played for its story, there are way too many never explained and later forgotten moments. It felt like too much insult to logic in quite a few places..
1st time i cried was because of FFX. Now this. I applaud the creators of FF16 after making me feel this bittersweet feeling after 20 plus years
You never did the DLCs, how comes?
I loved this game Clive is one of my fav characters in new games after I played this the last fight with ultima was so peak
I felt so bad for Benedikta, her regret for being power thirsty before losing control. Cid felt so guilty for not being able to change her and that was the first time he realized he had to give his powers to Clive. And Joshua certainly survived because Clive used the Phoenix powers to heal his chest wound. I like to think he was able to have a life with Jote, making Clive’s sacrifice even more worth.
FF16 really did just copy Xenoblade series homework huh…
Clive didn’t die. He likely wrote the book at the end, or he is the one who finished the book for Joshua. Notice the logo on the book is the same as the one they use for Cid’s Hideaway? Also, throughout the game, when Joshua is with you in the party, you can see there are times he will pull out a book and start writing in it to record his important findings of Fallen, Ultima and the world. So Joshua likely already started writing and recording the true history of the world or the events of the story as it took place.
Sidequests also hinted that Clive didn’t choose to be a warrior or knight, but rather he aspired to be an academic. The warrior life chose him, not the other way around. He had to be a knight to protect his brother Joshua, and then later as a Bearer slave he had no choice but to do as commanded. Then finally free he decided to seek revenge only to realise he is the Ifrit that “killed” Joshua. Then later he decides to pledge his sword and allegiance to Cid and his dream and vision of creating a world of equality, only to later end up taking on the name of Cid and continue the fight. Clive never wanted to fight, he simply had no choice. Hapocrates even gifted Clive his pen, so that Clive might be able to take up the pen when he decide to put down the sword.
sounds like the plot of naruto tailed beasts
Having just finished the game and making plans to play it again, there are quite a few mistakes in the video so far
Some confusion is warranted in places, but there are things that are explicitly stated in game that the narrator shouldn’t be confused about
This story started with so much potential and then just got too messy and kind of fell apart
I dont really get it. This is the most lore empty ff ive ever played. Like absolutely nothing about the fallen at all 😂
Torgal is alive ❤
This game had a high focus on how racism can effect a whole group of people and I think thats why Square Enix made the a homogeneous group to give a more focused look on how racism can destroy the world just cause of something you were born with that you can’t change… skin color and magic are one in the same in this game at least 75% of it…
so.. gurren lagann
so Jinchuriki…
This video is weird…
No one would watch this for an “explanation” unless they already finished it… yet at the same time… you spend so much time explaining the most basic concepts of dominants and eikons and etc which everyone who played it knows a majority of everything you spent so much time on.
Either this is a video for people who have never played it… or it’s a video for people who have played it. Yet you over explain everything as if everyone who played the game didn’t play the game… who are the very people who’d even watch this anyway.
No one would watch this if they didn’t play it… meaning why explain so much trivial shit as if everyone who beat the game is a dumbass?
One of if not the best ff game ever❤. Idk that I’ll ever live to see more epic boss fights in a game. I’d love to be wrong tho.
I love final fantasy so much but this game just has a terrible villain.
It is at sum point stated her head is in the box ig ur right cid didn’t do it but it’s def in there I thought cus was being petty and sent it to him as a way of making him face his consequences
Just like with FFXV, I think this game is overly hated. I don’t love it as much as the earlier FF games, but I still enjoyed the story and the characters.
This and the world of Naruto has a lot of parallels..
Love the combat, hate the story
Fell off for me after garuda, became a bunch of random jargon that just kept piling on
How it started
Political intrigue, revenge, mystery and a hinting toward some world size stakes narrative.
How it ended up
“Oh btw, 5 year time skip, there are aliens now, clive you are destiny’s child, the aliens made us and want to kill us now cause of the crystals and uhhh, underlying plot about making choices or some shit, time to fight ultima and now ultima but cooler”
Oh man, watching you dodge Ultima’s attacks towards the end of the video. It’s getting me hyped and I kinda want to play again lol. It has some of the slickest combat animations of 2023
The thing with Benedicta is that her heart always truly belonged to Cid. He was the one who saved her and gave her a sense of purpose. But when he left, something inside her broke she became hollow and desperate to fill that void. That’s what led her to serve the King of Waloed. Under his command, she was ordered to infiltrate the life of the Dominant of Titan, and because he had feelings for her, he was easy to manipulate.
What makes her story tragic but funny is that the man she loved chose his ideals over her, the man she turned to as a replacement only saw her as a tool, and the one who truly loved her who sincerely mourned her loss was the one she cared for the least.
Who else realizes that Final fantasy series is more like a Final destination series where everyone dies most of the time.
27:21 his boss’s name is “sleep near”?
Racism bad… probably (?)
Final Fantasy 16 is basically Naruto and Game of Thrones in some way what do all of you think🤔❓️
I’m pretty sure Clive wrote the book. Ultima = Final
Mythos = Fantasy
This games story was a mess tbh. And final fantasy was a fitting to title for that book because after the abysmal sales it’ll be the last main entry we ever get 😅😅😅
They turned Final Fantasy into game of thrones …. x_
I fell in love with Clive I can’t lie previously tidus was my all time favorite protagonist but I think Clive might have to have that spot cause man! I laughed I cried I got mad I got happy I had so many emotions throughout this game I’ll always hold it near and dear to my heart I loved everything about it but damn this shit felt long 😂 amazing 9/10
FF XV noctis mati, FF XVI Clive juga mati 🥲
“It aint that type of game”. At no point do you even think about Clive living or dying at the end…you NEVER feel anything for these characters so the ending is like, wtf that’s boring.
As a lefty, i really enjoy 16 and 7. Top 2 and 1 games for me respectively
Is Joshua dead or alive.
The ending made me tear up hard when Jill realize Clive’s dead.
If you talk to Vivian at the hideaway, it shows that Benedikta manipulated Hugo Kupka, and never really liked him, idk about Barnabas tho.
Game is garbage
I like the FF lore and movies, but they forgot how to make games.
The Garuda fight was very enjoyable, but everything else is just pace-breaking lazy, clutter.
I ended up abandoning the game after the fight after Benedicta lost control.
I’ll just watch this video for the story instead.
thank you for this, was interested in the story but the gameplay was gigaslop so i dropped the game
Thank you for this video. I am loving this game but am skipping the cutscenes. When I found out that the story’s cutscenes were designed similar to FF14, I knew I was going to skip them. Too many cutscenes per hour of gameplay. I wish there was a fast forward button like in FF Remake and Rebirth. lol.
this story was so poorly written. it was such a slog to get through the game
It’s her head I’m pretty sure during titans long ass boss battle he says to Clive you cut of her fucking head! If I do recall and Clive says he did it
Loved this game so much. The main reason i bought a ps5 was for this game. I need to go back and finish the dlc.
i just finished this game but was somewhat disappointed with the ending if im honest, i feel like clive didnt need to die but whatever i guess
This is just the story of xenoblade chronicles 3 with a ff filter on
I found this story insanely boring and only has solid moments whenever you reached the mother crystals, and whenever Ultima was on screen. Ultima was the best part of the game for me
The plot doesnt seem to make any sense the OP guys are enslaved and the magic generating guys are treated less than human? Why will dominants even stand for that they’d slaughter the soldiers with no magic who tell them they’re inferior.
Not talking about the current era but the past when this way of thinking started.
Blight wasnt caused by mother crystals as it was stated by Ultima It came with them into Valisthea, so we dont actually know what Blight is but what we can say is that using aether like mother crystals do, make spreading blight faster
One thing you forgot to mention is that in every FF game, there is a character called Cid. Idk why but it’s a thing. Sometimes its a playable character like in FF7 and sometimes its not, but every single FF has Cid😅
I really liked clive and much of the cast.
Idk why, but in terms of how they act, they feel the most balanced.
The balance being that between the more eastern style of character behaviour (exagurated movements/reactions) and the more western style (more realistic reactions).
I quite enjoyed it. Of course not to mention ben starrs performance as clive. Sheesh that guy went hard.
I’m fairly certain that Olivier isn’t human. When Dion kills him his body evaporates into Aether which doesn’t happen to normal people elsewhere.
Ever since being taken from her homeland as a political hostage at a young age, the Archduke of Rosaria raised Jill like a sister to Clive and Joshua, and eventually, Jill became the Rosfield brothers’ trusted confidant. At the beginning of the story, Jill is 12 years old Not much is known about Jill’s early years, but what is known is that she was born in the Northern Territories. When the Mothercrystal of the Northern Territories fell, and Blight took over, the armies of the Territories began to bear down on neighboring Rosaria. However, under the command of Archduke Elwin Rosfield, Rosaria was able to fend off the invasion. As part of the peace agreement with the Chieftain of the Northern Territories and Jill’s father, only ever known under the guise of The Silvermane, young Jill was to be given to Elwin as a ward to ensure that the Silvermane would never raise arms against them again.
It would be nice to see a sequel to this, although it could be right after the first one or many years into the future.
14:44 later on into the story Bernard or whatever the white haired dude name is that made Hugo go to mother crystal said something about benedikta head so its very likely that barnabas ordered her head to be sent to Hugo and blade cid and maybe ultima played a part in this by telling barnabas to do this
Well, he did meet a strange man called Jin Kazama
the fact this entire game was just weak court intrigue that somehow devolved into “ok, now kill god” is just to disappointing, such a waste of pretty good characters.
So many parralels with kingdom hearts…. Holy 😮
I wonder if anything thought about Joshua Rosfield could be the son of Jill and Clive. In many ways, Clive lived through his son. It is a possibility.
Im here because I couldn’t bear to slog through the rest of the game myself
IMO Harbard is the one that chopped off Benedikta’s head, under order from Barnabas and Ultima. Also, I’ve never understood why Barnabas is fighting against Bahamut at the beginning of the game when is clearly incredibly OP. It seems like he could conquer every other country.
Anyhow, my take is that each Ekion is a fragment of ultima so Joshua sealed only one of them inside but the others got released with each crystal been destroyed. It is intended in the final fight since Ultima uses each Ekion ability. I’ve found cool that Ultima does summon them without using their names but more about what they do (“Ice unyielding ecc ecc “) hinting that Ultima sees them only as a tool, whilst Clive actually calls them using their name. I thought it was quite cool as a detail
but you didnt explain anything , you just told us the same what game does lmao
Now explain how Clive narrated the ending if he was dead
If you look on Google, it says Clive survived and is badly beaten. The only thing that turned the stone was his hand
Thank you for this. I found myself bored and distracted due to the pacing. The first half of the story/game was very enthralling but they didn’t do the best job with story/plot development.
I have to love the fact that the Enterprise (CV6) is such a legendary ship, that it’s even forced it’s way into pop culture from other cultures.
This was great!
Thanks. Saved me 50 bucks. Fuk final fantasy with no turn based combat. Square enix will learn one way or the other
Interesting that Ultima calls his vessel Mythos since Ultima is latin for Final and Mythos essentially means Fantasy lol
Wow so cool
Terrible story
Thanks
This is the BEST ff game ever made until now. I love the damn game. Only the trials gave me a headache
wait Clive builds an aircraft carrier? I dont understand :/
Clive said that he decapitated benedikta before he fought hugo and cut off his hands.
How do you do it?
i love how when clive fights ultimalius with their eikons ultima yells out artistic babel ”earth unyeilding, levin untamed” while clive yells the eikons names ”titan, ramuh”
i like to think of this as clive knowing the identiy of the eikons,
Since a new DLC was dropped for this installment, will you be covering how it relates to the story? @Gingy
Amazing video! I would like to point out though that harpocretes is also not from storm, at the beginning of the game at the hideaway when you ask him about himself he tells you that he read about storm and its magic and it captivated him so he hopped on a merchants ship to journey to storm, he never explains where exactly he’s from but he does reference himself as to not being from these lands.
Joshua and Dion are the coolest part about this game tbh.
A lot of little inaccuracies. Like Clive only had the blessing of the Phoenix. He didn’t have the ikon until the end, Joshua have it to him…
you don’t need to understand the previous titles in the series but all of them save for XV, to some extent V,, and the first true 3 , are worth your time. should be noted that the series first told a Very powerful story during 6, but 4’s is … worthy of playing and sitting through the story but- It’s not a strong as it became later on.
I thought that before Clive sacrificed himself he heald Joshua which didn’t seem to work at first but the book in the end was supposed to show us that it actually worked and it was Joshua who survived
Missed and opportunity to have the timekeeper be a giant wolf with a giant sword in its mouth
This battle Style + All Previous Final Fantasies+ New Stories & Co Op = Greatness
This game and 14 have renewed my faith that Final Fantasy has a chance to be as good as it once was because 13 and 15 and 8 were just bad
Ben Starr killed it with his voicing for Clive. His scream for Joshua as his brother layed dying broke me.
My personal theory on how the story could be attributed to Joshua: Jill took Clive’s surname after he died and she was pregnant thanks to their little personal time under the moon. She had twins, named them after Clive and Joshua, and it was Joshua Rosfield Jr. who transcribed his mothers stories about the war of the Eikons as Final Fantasy.
I am to stupid to follow the story, like playing the game tho
Ah yes. Cid, dominant of rama, avatar of vishnu.
Combat sucks… I don’t think I died once. Emneys don’t knock you out of animation damage sponge it’s just attacking that’s it. Wish it was harder the enemy attacked u actually
Didn’t Clive try to heal josh before he restart the world
Wait so what about that one cutscene i saw online whre the main character gets the power of Ultima?
With the post-credit scene showing the book about the events of the game, I think it is plausible that the entire game was just that, a story in a book played out in a child’s imagination and never actually happened.
Ultima didn’t shun humanity. He believed his job was done and went to sleep until Mythos was born. But while he was asleep humanity strayed and ended up becoming advanced enough to harvest magic. They even tried to breach the crystal (which was Origin). This led to Ultima cursing the world with Dominants which were there to protect the crystals.
THE FINAL SCENE IS HUMANS NOW FIGHTING FOR NUKES
o.o It seems Clive was wrong, magic was NOT the problem. It was the human’s lack of character. So, now it is upto Narayana to educayson the humans on DHARMA. The End.
God Torgal is such a good boy
They wanted to make this game “accurate to medieval Europe”
But made majority of the characters look Asian Af lol
The diversity comment from the director is full of shit.
Still can’t think of a good reason by having an open ended finale like this, is just stupid.
So many thinks can go with one or other theory, in summary:
1. There’s a book with the history of the Eikons and only 3 characters could have write it because know the full story: Joshua, so Joshua is alive by Clive as Ultima vessel, Clive taking Joshua’s name (the only time Final and Fantasy is mentioned is by Clive ), the Undying (who have compiled all the history of humanity).
2. We don’t know how Clive get down from Origin so it’s so open this part on the beach, Clive could be exhausted only, stonification doesn’t advance in an instant so there’s a case Clive could have only his hand in stone. Or he used everything as Ultimas vessel and his body can’t handle it and go stone in a rapid fashion.
3. Torgal could not feel Clive because there’s no more magic, or because his dead. Jill see the star and think Clive is dead, but she sees the sunrise and see him coming and laugh in joy. Torgal also stops howling and looking the horizon…so open.
There’s Nothing more…and this is awful, don’t know why you would chose this much open ending.
For this to happen you invest 100 hours, and feel attached to characters, you need closure.
Im having a hard time with understanding a lot of what happens in this game. It leaves so much stuff unanswered, vague and ambiguous i hate it i wanna know what happened and i want an actual answer not just guessing or making shit up…
Here is the main stuff i absolutly need answered:
How is ultima still out there when joshua sealed him
Why is joshua hiding from clive? He has every opportunity to at least let him know hes alive
How is joshua alive after phoenix gate
Is the hooded man that appears to clive ultima? If so then why does he take on the appearance of hooded joshua?
Why does typhoon and the fire giant protect the mothercrystals. I assume they are ultima’s construct but ultima wants clive to destroy the mothercrystal so why are they trying to stop clive to do just that
Why can clive absorb powers of other eikons?
What did hugo receive in the box??
Are dion, joshua and clive dead or not??? Ffs i need to know damn it
Seriously ive searched all over online and in the ATL and i cant find answers to these its infuriating…
Every mainline FF games are independent and does not have any connection between them..
Meanwhile somewhere in rift dimension..
Gilgamesh: “I hope this portal will bring me back to my world so that i can meet and fight again with my rival, Bart.z… Oh mann.. Not again.. Always goes to another main FF world..”
Amazing.
He becomes humanities own saviour against religion.
He unites humanities power to defeat something make-believe (magic/religion) that is harmful to us and causes us to hurt ourselves. The blight shows the effect of religion. To understand it change the words magic for faith, the word blight for religion.
Odin (war) causes us the most pain, and is one of the main by-products of religion.
They address corruption in FF10
They address the effect it has on us in FF16.
Final Fantasy then becomes the bible, and science (flint producing fire) takes advances because of it and humanity is free.
ABSOLUTE GENIUS.
Man they really enjoy killing off the main character these past few games
21:33 i thought this was hugo’s hatred and jealousy of clive manifesting into him seeing benedicta and clive together
dude forgot the whole part when Clive heals Joshua’s wounds at the end, and seeing the after credits scene, showing the book written by him…probablyyyyyyy means he lived…kind of a big fail for a channel that does analysis. Give me your channel, I will make it whole.
Listen, I have this issue whee I have trouble sticking with a gmae unless someone I know in real life is also playing it or inteested in it. I need to be able to talk about the game as I play it or I stop playing. I’m literally not even through with act 1 of BG3 because the people in my dnd game stopped talking about it and the guy at work hasn’t played enough that I can talk wihtout spoiling it. But I love stories. Literally all of my interests involve stories in one form or another. So I’ve been loving your videos. I get to learn the stories of video games I’m never going to play, and add a whole bundle of stories to my mental list of them.
Here’s the story explained in 5 seconds instead of 40 minutes: The development team all took giant dumps in the middle of the office floor, then used copies of final fantasy 15 to stir it all up, and the resulting mixture was 16.
I like to believe the Joshua who wrote the book is the son of Jill and Clive
Dion is not dead! Dragoons don’t take fall damage
I’m convinced Harbard sent the head to Kupka to bait him into wanting to fight Clive/Cid and Clive unwittingly admitted to murdering Benedikta (but not sending a head) which baited Kupka even further. Ultimately though, it was Ultima all along moving chess pieces called Dominants.
13:18 pretty sure after the titan lost fight, barnabas talks about it being diktas head
This game has horrible pacing
Didn’t Hugo become titan then super titan after he took his power?
It is confirmed that it was her head and it is confirmed that it was Barnabas.
This review would’ve been perfect if you actually showed the map while explaining
Clive admitted to Hugo during their fight that it was him who sent Hugo Benediktas head
I thought Benedicta thought of Cid as a father figure because he saved her when she was a teen.
I’ve played every single final fantasy games since 14, this one unfortunately I cannot play on my pc and I don’t have a Playstation 5, if this game does come to pc I will gladly buy it
Loved the story and characters but damn, other than that, I found this game extremely boring.
It was all just a story. The whole thing was a book not real.
Still waiting to play as Cid! For the love of god release a Cid DLC now!!
great break down but for someone who played the game and played it early, you should know that you’re pronouncing Valisthea wrong.
Just so you know Gingy its pronounced Valis-Tee-Aah not Vallessia.
Great breakdown and analysis. I certainly hope there is a sequel but, I like happy endings.
I figured Jill had Clive’s baby and called it Joshua Rosfield. So it was Clive’s son who wrote the book not his brother.
Fainaru fantaji
How the hell did he not win best voice acting? Phenomenal acting start to finish. What a story, what a game. Loved it.
btw it was her head because it was brought up by barnabus.
Tbh..its a so-so ending
Just get rid if that purple sky and it would be a great game
Your analysis of the ending was way too straightforward. There was a definite possibility of Clive surviving and taking upon Joshua’s name as a write so his legacy may live on. Plus, he is the only one to have witnessed the events of the final battle and his final choice so it wouldn’t make sense for someone else to know about it. I don’t know how you managed to miss this super obvious point.
I think Benedikta truly loved Cid. She was sincerely hurt and felt betrayed when he left. Barnabas and Hugo are not Loved. She manipulates and uses them both for their position and power.
Is shiva the mother of Sephiroth? Like this is the prequel
Final Fantasy 16 was surprising easy and I hated the ending.
28:49 Clive could have easily use Phoenix or Ifrit powers to dry their clothes but he couldnt resist the quality time with Jill 😂😂😂
Clive didn’t die. He wrote the book.
The author already said that the end is ambiguos on purpose, which means that Clive could be alive or dead depending on your own interpretation. Neither its completely right until the author confirms it.
I also believe that Clive is alive merely due to narrative reasons. It doesnt make sense for Clive to “die in his own terms”; in order to complete his arc like how Cid did it. He needs to “live on his own terms” like he actually set out to do. Jill also said that Clive always comes back to her at dawn, and the way she looks at it could mean that she realizes she only lost contact with Clive because magic and dominants are gone and that maybe Clive is still alive, just partly petrified.
There were also the promises to enjoy life together after everything was said and done and what not. This story also struck me a bit like Berserk, where the characters suffer so much it just makes sense to give them a happy ending so all their hardships are given purpose (Miura said Berserk was supposed to get a happy ending).
Ultimately, its a matter of interpretation and you can choose what you want. This is what I chose regardless if its right or wrong, just like Clive would have wanted…
This is the first final Fantasy since Final Fantasy 10 that I’ve actually felt an emotional connection to the characters and have a genuine caring for the story as well. Despite the lack of turn-based strategy and companion customization, I’ve never felt more at home with a Final Fantasy. You can tell that a lot of love and detail went into the story and that means so much to me. If they remade Final Fantasy 8 with this much care for the story and control of each character with group strategy thrown in… I would be in heaven.
I just beat the guy who has the same Odin eikon and he split the seas but will come back to this video in about 1-2 days😅
What does dying even mean in this game lol
Am i the only one who finds the story too confusing😵💫
Unfotunately, I’m here because I’m not buying a ps5 just for final fantasy and demons souls
Only problem with this video was the unfortunate pronunciation of Valisthea, it’s not vUh-Less-Tea-Uh, it’s vAL-EH-stAY-UH. Aside from that? Great video and jam-packed w info
Hey bro!
I loved this game’s story but man I just wish for these characters to get a happy ending, it would have been beautiful to see Clive and Jill together at the end (cries in another FF15 ending)
How do these hardship-wrought characters keep up such kickass haircuts?
The plot reminded me a lot of AOT
I dont know who lives or dies at the end because theres so much left to interpretation but thats kind of poetic in a way. Clive died for your choice my friends, its your choice how the story plays out.
I think Joshua is revived from the omnipotent power Clive absorbed from Ultima. I think Clive dies from the exhaustion and taxing of his body. Too many things signal he dies to me. But i could absolutely see a world where his spirit wont accept death and he wakes up with some petrification setting in and eventually the medicine girl saved by Terence invents Soft to remedy the traces of the curse that still plague the worlds former bearers.
My guesses for DLC are two episodes:
-the first being based around Jill and her time as a slave under the iron bloods, ending with her fight against titan
-the second being an episode Cid, which will delve not only into the origins of Cid, but also Barnabas, and his upbringing/ relationship with his mother
This entire time I did not know that Elwin was Anabella’s cousin…w h a t
The game was one of my favorites had me pulled to all sorts of different emotions until kupkas death. Then we learn about mid which i think was one of the worst written engineers in final fantasy period. Not only do we do a bunch of boring fetch quests for her she even sticks to character even more and talks about how other people are doing all the work for her. I mean what kind of engineer flat out refuses to build something. Not only that but what kind of engineer forces others to engineer a way to make her stuff work? Her character didnt make sense at all. Shes the only character i couldnt stand at all.
This game will be remembered for its story and boss fights. SOLID entry in the series
Its super obvious that Jushua survived and Clives fate is left ambiguous.
Just recap the end cinematic…
1. Clive obsorbs Ultimas energy.
2. Clive runs to Joshua.
3. Clive remembers Joshua when he was with his in the last third of the game.
4. Clive remembers Joshua when he knighted him as a Shield.
5. Clive remembers when Joshua was born and being so alone, he now has somone who cares for him and whom he cares for.
6. Clive casts a spell to heal Joshua (why even bother spending so much time making this part of the cinematic)
7. Agter the spell, Clive realizes he is turning to stone and comments how even this vessel was not good enough for Ultima
8. Clive makes the ultimate sacrifice to break the cycle of magic –> blight –> desperation by removing all magic.
In the end whether Clive survided or not is left for the players to think about.
The book being written by Joshua makes sense as the Chronicler mentioned how he thought Joshua would make a good Chronicler before the last mission.
Also, Gav is like the greatest homie in the history of secondary NPCs in Final Fantasy. I cared so much about whether Gav was gonna come out OK than any other character in FF.
I just finished 16 and as a FF kid who played 1-8 on release, I think 16 might be the best FF game ever made.
It made me FEEL, like…the story is just so fucking good. I had more fun rolling around the map with Cid and Jill than I’ve had in any other game for a long time.
EDIT – I low key was fucked up after I killed Benedikta. My first playthrough was the “Benedikta banging and ice drugs” speedrun, at least from what i told my brother who also played FF games, and when I murked her – for real – and Googled “when does Benedikta come back?” only to find out….she doesn’t….I understood this game.
This game is maybe the best storytelling I’ve ever seen in a video game. Proof that a video game can tell a complex, adult-themed, and real as fuck story about the foolishness of long-term grudges and trauma.
My top 2 story in gaming
The story up to Cid’s death is good but after Cid’s death it just go downhill.
Just finished the game last night. What a journey it was…
worst ending ever!
AFAIR there’s a scene after battle where Clive uses his powers to try heal Joshua. So he may actually survived.
What surprises me tho is that civilization stalled for so much time after removal of magick.
damn i was hopping you would explain what the red light next to the moon was supposed to be. I still am confused about that and what exactly happened with joshua. In my perspective I think he might’ve been reborn given that they showed the exact same baby in his birth scene and when the other npc’s baby was born and that’s how he ended up writing the book? idk. really wanted to know what that red light was though lool
I’m surprised they didn’t include Alexander as an icon. He seems to be just added as an afterthought or not included at all anymore.
I wouldn’t say the game has nothing to do with the other FF games. Its not like the other games took place in different universes, just different times. Kinda like Legend of Zelda. But this game is a reset of the entire universe since Lighting became God and did a reset.
May I make a small correction?
Typhon, according to the lore in the thousand tomes, is one of Ultima’s many vessels, like Ultima Prime.
Idk why but aside from
Cid an gav dion was one of my fav side characters in all of ff an I’m really not sure why 😅 loved 16 tho
Rip Clive 🥲
Just wanted to throw this in here: it’s confirmed that Barnabas was the one who delivered the box to Hugo. It’s said in the cutscene following the Titan fight
I don’t think it’s ever truly explained why there’s two eikon of fire
Seeing all this discussion on ending theorys brings me back 20 years in past, when the final fantasy community was doing the same for FF VIII, ah, pure nostalgia…
For me tho, both are dead and another person wrote it, obv someone close to theme, i don’t know who, it can even be that infant in the future or it can be the work of more then one person and the decision to write that name in specific it’s the best way to honor the both of theme, the first bc it’s name is there, the second bc if he was to write it, jousha is for sure the name he would use
It’s not so hard to think that the close ones are the ones that wrote it afther all
Mmm i guess Noctis and Clive share the “sacrifice” ending
imagine naming your daughter “mid”
Small correction. Clive took Titans powers after his first fight with Hugo. This also reinforces that even tho Clive takes the abilities of eikons the original dominants can still transform
Boring
This game was lame. Lame. It was so boring by the end that I just wanted it to end. It sucked. It’s only saving grace was that it wasn’t a mess at launch. What a weak installation.
It’s never outright stated, but Barnabas ordered the desecration of Benedicta’s body and for it to be sent to Kupka. This was so he could get Hugo to attack Clive and co, giving Clive the power of Titan and inching him closer into becoming Ultima’s vessel.
Edit: Ultima fragmented his soul to create the Mother Crystals and the one Joshua absorbs is merely a part of the greater whole.
Jesus what a fucking mess. These games are so lost.
Can you cover Final Fantasy 13?
If you think about it, ff16 has a similar concept with Detroit Become Human.
The game have a few in world lores that they touch but never elaborate. Like the crystal curse on dominant that somehow only affect cid and jill and no one else. There’s also the “blessing” that was never explain. Clive can cast fire because of the Phoenix blessing, but he seem to be able to use the full Phoenix power without ever absorbing the Phoenix. If blessing is all they need to do, why don’t other dominant just bless all their army?
Well at least the game had a bit of a happier ending then FFXV in that game everyone the MC loved seemed to just die including the MC himself. Though there seemed to be at least a happy moment in the afterlife…
Confusingly, Sleipnir is the name of Odins horse but Harbard is another name for Odin.
Did you say 15 was getting updates at the end? I thought we were at 16😅
If you hsve a conversation with Josh or do a quest for/with him, he talks about writing a book. I think the book was written before the final confrontation.
probably one of the best written stories in a video game that i have ever experienced
thanks gingy as usual
I like to think that the two brothers at the very end are Clive and Joshua reincarnation of them. I mean Joshua could’ve finished writing the the story of Final Fantasy just before he died
The character development in this game was phenomenal! Loved every single little interaction between them all!!! ❤
What was Ultima’s plan again?
Another villain that sabotages his own plan by dragging in the only person who can destroy him.
Clive obviously did not die – cinematic just shows his hands turning into stone. In one of the side quest, Harpacrates gave him a quill and told him to write down the adventure after everything is over, besides, Clive is the only one who has went trhough the whole story from the begining to the end, which means only he can write down the whole thing. I think he wrote the book and leave the name of his brother to honor his memory.
Lore of Final Fantasy 16 – Story & Ending Explained momentum 100
I like to imagine the book at the end was written by Clives under Joshua’s name similar to how he took on the name of Cid
One thing about those children at the end. They’re clearly representing Clive and Joshua. People have speculated that they may be descendants of Clive and Jill. We don’t know who lived or died, and we have zero proof about the children’s lineage. But the decisions regarding the hair color are interesting. Obviously one black and one blonde, but if Jill and Clive did get frisky off screen either prior or after ultima’s defeat, where would the blonde come from? Why, the mother is blonde, of course!
The director clearly wanted us to be confused about the ending, given all the arguments back and forth. Whenever directors do this, it usually means that the ending is up to you. It’s a common trope that directors use to (1) add the illusion of depth to a plot and (2) generate media attention/audience interaction. And this leads to longer shelf life and therefore more sales. That’s not saying the director or SE corporate is only trying to make more bank. Artistic vision/integrity (i.e. writing a clear and proper ending) build the brand and might generate sales too. Just that they know this type of ending “works.”
its called VALISTHEA not Valesia……
I was suprised how good this games story was actually got me teary at the end, quite beautifully told, i just dont find the main villian compelling mainly because he looks cool but doesnt add anything to the game for me except something to kill. I actually ended up really loving cid also. I was kinda sad certain stuff just not explained like certain bosses just being one time shows with no context and missing bosses mentioned only briefly, hopefully the 2 dlcs will fix this but overall i really enjoyed this hell out of this game
The ending was the most tragic thing since ff10
Imagine the same concept if it happens between Humans and AI… If AI develops its own will… things will be interesting 🙂
Is every final fantasy disconnected to the other ones ?
Just beat it! This game is very Old Testament 🫣
Clive’s story is a memorable one. He did everything for love and protection ❤️🔥
The benedikta box was most likely her ashes instead of a burial
Clive cut of Benedict a head. He said so in the fight with Hugo
Bro I love ff16 dotn get me wrong but who else feels it’s just a mideval infamous second son I mean the main character is sarcastic and he can steal other peoples powers
13:40 after Hugo is killed sleipner (Barnabas’ lord commander) says that he did all this for a woman’s head
Ok I suppose. Better than most jrpgs who have yet to move beyond storytelling for kindergarteners at least
Thanks, I really liked the story, but the gameplay was just too linear and repetitive for me. So getting the full story without having to deal wir the poor gameplay is a huge timesave!
Don’t agree with the conclusion
This game felt like such a chore to complete.. I def didn’t have the same joy in my play through that I felt in past FF titles.. extremely repetitive combat with the same exact strategy for literally every single fight. Fill the stagger bar then spam special moves 😴😴 that fact that different moves look cool didn’t make it any less repetitive and the side quests dragged and were unbearably boring. ZERO replay value.
This game has more cinematic cut scene time then the entire God of War Series but the story is still convoluted AF!
I’d rather listen to this than watch any cut scenes. Wayyyyyy too many in this game. I’ve been skipping them all. I just want to play the game
I just finished 😥😥😥
Absolute masterpiece…❤️
All of the Eikons… Except for Leviathan. Seems primed for a DLC, personally.
Talking with friends about it, we noticed that there’s a lot of different story threads that could be expanded upon in DLC if they wanted.
I feel like it was mentioned somewhere about Cid’s backstory in rising up in the ranks at Waloed, his relationship with Benedikta, him raising Mid, etc.
There’s also Joshua’s story between the events of Phoenix Gate and the present day.
If they wanted to, they could do something about what happens after Clive’s death though I think that’s probably better left to the imagination.
However, the one thing that I definitely found the most intriguing would be the missing Eikon. It mentions how there are supposed to be 8 eikons, each of a different element but one of them, Leviathan of water, had been lost somehow. I think a story about what happened to it and how would make for a great addition.
Great ending, very traditional villain, a nice addition to the mythos.
Clive takes a piece of there power. Ultimately they all keep there summon powers but the connection becomes weakened and they can’t prime unless they risk losing themselves completely in a rampage
It’d be great to see the story of “Leviathan the Lost.” That’d make for some interesting DLC.
Clive’s Decision in the end could be th end of the Manga Black Clover as well.
I’m looking forward to some continued content, even from another’s perspective, cuz there’s one big piece of unresolved content. Leviathan the lost
@37:52 We literally see Clive heal Joshua in the end… We’re never shown exactly that he survives, but we do at least see his wounds be wiped away, so…
Pretty sure Harbard confirmed sending the head to Kupka on behalf of Barnabas. Also, I thought Benedikta was only with Kupka to influence him for the benefit Barnabas/Ultima but I’m not sure that’s ever explicitly confirmed.
This game’s story impressed me and the ending hit me harder than I thought. I totally understand the need for the characters to die for storytelling, but I wish Clive or Joshua would have lived.
Not gonna lie this story sounds incredibly average
One thing about Ultima is that there are multiples of him. Joshua explains at the end that each of the mothercrystals are ultima. So he only actually sealed one out of the multiple versions on Ultima.
Ff16 is already one of my favs
How do you not go into Metia at all and it’s connection to the ending?
Joshua lives, Clive seems to revive him. You notice right before his final cast he hits Joshua with the phoenix down (lol jk just the fire) but Joshua appears to have his wounds healed, but it seems like it’s up in the air. My guess is he lives and then writes the book later to make sure his brother’s story isn’t lost to time.
Bro how do you mess up saying Valisthea. It’s said out loud in game multiple times.
I cannot take these new Generation final fantasy games. . Story is pure Garbage.
Clive revived Joshua. As Jill was crying… the sun rises symbolize (Phoenix rises). Clive died and Joshua then wrote the book.. 😢😢😢
I don’t think Clive died, once I was done with the game I realized the whole game was just Clive telling the story of his book (I’m pretty sure he wrote it cuz he mentioned he loved stories and books, and used his brother’s name to honor his memory), cuz the game starts with him narrating and giving some exposition about Valisthea and the Mother Crystals and right at the end, he’s once again narrating and saying something like “and this is how our story ends”.
It is likely Clive didn’t die. The curse stopped at his hand as magic was wiped from the world. Sidequests imply Clive wanted to be a writer. It is likely he wrote the book and used Joshua’s name to keep his memory alive. Also, it is heavily implied Metia granted Jill’s wish (Clive returning with the Dawn) and Torgal holwed (sending a signal to Clive) as opposed to whimpering like when Cid died. Great video.
I finished this last night and my wife, two kids, and one of their friends were weeping at the ending. My son said “I don’t know any of these people and it’s still really sad”
Same Final Fantasy IX plot twist
On Benedicta and her feelings/relationships. I believe it’s made very clear she truly loved Cid, but when Cid left Walood that betrayal devastated her. She continues to use her sexuality for gain. She doesnt love Barnabas but is subservient to him and uses sex to prove her loyalty. She couldn’t truly care less about Hugo, but uses her sexuality to control him and essentially turn him into a pawn of Barnabas/Ultima, if she is aware of Ultimas manipulation is unclear though. She’s definitely one of my favorite villain’s ever and I wish she had more time. And her head is brought up briefly in a single line of dialog, could be a side quest, I don’t remember who or where says it but they definitely say that Ultima/Barnabas were responsibile for defiling her body and blamed Cid/Clive to pit Hugo against Clive knowing that Mythos would defeat titan, furthering Ultimas goal
I do believe Clive will survive somehow, if Gojo pulled up a J.C move out of nowhere than he can too.
10/10 Tons of dlc opportunities.
Cid , and the fall of the first 3 mother crystals. (Leviathan)
Barnabus, arriving to Ash to conquer a kingdom.
Joshua, surviving Ifrit, and learning the truth of the crystals.
The story of the ones called, the fallen.
The eikon war of the twins. (All eikons)
Special clip: Ultima and his kin, becoming the crystals of valistea.
Just wondering exactly what the significance of ifrit was ? Is it ifrit that lets Clive steal the power from other dominants? Or is that just something unique to Clive?
Fav FF so far. I really want a DLC with Jill or Joshua where we can explore the Northen territories and learn about the history with the fallen dzemekys and leviathan
WHAT’S IN THE BOX
The history section was serviceable but you left out a big detail that helps contextualize the setting. Maybe it constitutes a spoiler, but the reason why the dominants and bearers are oppressed is something I think is worth mentioning.
legit had to put the video down because of the weird way you keep mispronouncing valisthea 😭
9:03 Benedikta loved and still is in love with Cid. Her sleeping with Barnabas is the equivalent of a slave sleeping with its master. Look at their post coital scene and the dialogue specifically about Cid.
Also She’s manipulating Hugo and being manipulated by Barnabas who is ultimately being manipulated by Ultima 🤯 . In the end she dies and Barnabas (or someone working for him) beheads her and has it delivered to Hugo to enrage him.
Like Cid said… if only she would’ve listened to him…
Screw the ending…lets talk about what really matters….This game has an abundance of Big Bridges and a lack of Gilgamesh’s….that is completely unacceptable.
Plenty of room for DLC if they want. They lean into Joshua surviving by showing Clive heal him and the book author. And they only show the future several generations down the line, its very possible that the actions of Clive were not the results of the future shown and additional threats needed to be tackled afterwards in the near future. Ultima hints at the futility of Clives actions stating the world would still rot, they left themselves room to expand the story if they want. They could do whatever they want really as long as it happens sometime between the ending and the future shown in the post credits.
What is also a neat little detail and very meta of Yoshi P. and his team were the names of Mythos and Ultima. Ultima meaning final, and Mythos as fantasy.
20:04 when you say Clive is the one who actually killed her you should say actually killed Benedikta. That line could be confusing to some since you were just talking about Anabella
Cousins?!?! NAHHHH THATS CRAZYYYY
Wait wasn’t Olivier definitely a way Ultima was exerting control? His doll has glowing blue eyes and his body disintegrated… normal human bodies didn’t do so, only Akashic bodies disappeared. I could be wrong though, but he definitely seemed a puppet.
It’s just my opinion, but I think the reason why Clive couldn’t fully handle Ultima’s powers is due to not having all of the Eikons. After all, Joshua mentioned Leviathan the ‘Lost’ upon seeing the full mural. Clive never obtained Leviathan’s powers, so he couldn’t develop into the true host for Ultima’s powers.
Or……Joshua wrote the book before he died, before he took on the task of destroying Ultima.
FF16 has one of the best supporting casts in any Final Fantasy game, hands down. There’s not a single member of the Hideaway who feels poorly written or out of place. I enjoyed each and every single one of them. They did the legwork with their writing to make sure players would care deeply for these NPCs, fostering a familial connection with the Hideaway, and it makes moments like Clive, Joshua, and Dion departing for Origin hit all the harder.
The world is called Valisthea. It’s said out loud by numerous people. If you can’t get that right, why should I watch the rest?
It is implied that the head of Benedikta was sent to Hugo by Walooed, as Sleipnir states how Hugo would die “for a woman’s head”, and there is no way he would know of those details unless he was the one who sent it.
its less of a video game and more of a playable anime. the story was told through a full cinomatic experience. not what one might otherwise call cut sences.
Im kinda late (being an adult sucks) but I must say I didnt like this ending. The game was fantastic all the way until Ultima was defeated, I just do not buy Clive having to nuke himself to destroy Origin and safe the world, he could had done it another day after rethinking his approach, he also could had gave Joshua and Dion the sendoff they deserved back at the hideaway too. Ultima was already defeated and the world’s only danger was the blight which is not even a threat tbh, they can live on a blighted land just fine. To me Clive nuking himself felt forced, if the story really wanted Clive dead then why not have him die during the fight against Ultima just like Noctis died fighting Ardyn?
Clive was the one who cut Beneditkas head off. He says it in the titan fight.
Barnabas sent the head as Sleipnir says “all for the love of a woman’s head”.
Furthermore, the active time lore states that Barnabas was the one who sent Benedikta ro Hugo in order to get “him under her wing”.
This game sucks. Literally could’ve been a Netflix show lol
Joshua is alive because Clive sorta healed him before using all his powers to rid the realm of magick.
A g@y bahaumut what cringe, good thing he’s dead, why kill the main characters those who matter
Holy shit brother, respectfully you missed a lot of info lol
I like how the crystal that was taken by the Iron Kingdom seems to be the crystal related to Ifrit and the Phoenix, 2 parts of a whole representing a god like creature of creation and destruction, much like a volcano destroys and creates life from the ashes it leaves behind.
Spirits Within is still my fav FF
im lost bro
What were those things Jill did not wanna talk about?
I loved it. The ending was so strong. I’ve like Joshua since the beginning and he grew even more on home.
In fact, even if you don’t play them, i liked everyone, especially Gav, not dumb for a comic relief a bit.
The world was so interesting. I was excited when exploring Ash, like Ultima Thule in Ff14
Clive is a good character
Clive is not 100% died, there is so many hint that support clive survive. But the developer made the open ending so its up to the player to decide if clive alive or not
Okay Dion constantly fainting I believe is YoshiP easter egg, his living up to greatest dragoon strat FLOORTANKING
Japanese sure do hate god……….
Clive destroyed magic! Therefore, when he used the final spell and was washed up on the beach, only his hand/ arm was petrified. With magic being gone from the world, the curse is also gone and he wont fully turn to stone. Another point on why Clive lives.
Hope u do this to Armored Core 6 a few weeks or months after it releases
Some of the pronunciations of names make me cringe but nice video! 👍🏽❤
Kingdom hearts wheeeeennnnn
Rocking the Final Fantasy 8 vibes
Bro why all these youtube ”ending explained” never do their HW but try to make a quick video of what they think is correct? Clive didn’t die, if you did the side quests and played the game you’d know he lives on and wrote the book you see at the end.
He dies in the beach….. Leviathan the lost Eikon…..
Honestly, I told myself I was tired of super sad endings of FF games but this game forced me to change perspective. Though GREAT sacrifices were made, ultimately Cid’s & Clive’s vision came to fruition. A plethora of ppl (especially Bearers) will live much better lives. He wasn’t fighting simply to have a fairy tail ending, he fought for a purpose and succeeded. On my top ten FF protagonist list.
No offense but I think you moved way too fast in this video. Maybe try slowing down the flow of information so that we can digest it better? This is after all coming from someone who doesn’t know the story
It was explicitly stated that Barnabas had Bendikta’s head sent to Hugo to get him to clash with Clive. Presumably to feed Titan to Ifrit.
Good video, but they say Valisthea many many times in both the game and interviews leading up to launch so how do so many content creators keep pronouncing things so weird?
Weren’t the Undying chronicling Joshua’s actions? I remember Joshua telling Clive that. They probably wrote the book and it just morphed into a fairytale with time.
This has to be in the top 3 best games ever made. Everything fits so perfectly down to the smallest detail, the theme, the story, the gameplay, the epicness of every fight, the characters, the characters’ development, the dialogues, *the* *music* , *the* *voice* *acting* . Everything.
It’s one of the most mature games I’ve ever played in my 30 years of gaming. By the end I was expecting (wishing) the typical explanation of every little detail that was presented during the game, like, who are the Fallen, why/how exactly did they go extinct in the war against the gods, what happened at the crater of Dzemekys, why was Clive chosen as the Vessel of Ultima, how/why were specific people chosen as Dominant, why did some people become Bearers and others didn’t… but you get just what you need and nothing more. Like in real life, you don’t get all the answers when you reach the end of your path, and you have to choose how to live your life without knowing if the path you are taking is the right one.
I’m not even too interested in knowing if Clive survived or not, it would be heartbreaking if he didn’t, but that’s not relevant to the story, nor to his development. He went from being an innocent, brave, talented kid, to a tormented anti-hero who killed his brother, to a hero struggling with his demons, to an all out wise Man who can lead others to freedom at his own expense.
This game is an absolute masterpiece.
this will be very very easy and better to follow if you show map
when ever you name a city or kingdom to show which is where (kingdom, city, fight and …..)
It’s best to think of Ultima like Jenova. A hivemind…parasite even. That’s why there are many but there is really only 1.
I’m still alive and unfortunately, my brother….didn’t live to see it…
This game is special for sure. The bonds created though the story really made the ending hit hard. Haven’t cried at a game since rdr2 and this one earned it for sure.
Can I just say that they were ambiguous about the ending we don’t know if Clive is alive or dead?
The story is very mediocre. It’s like they tried to overcompensate for the combat system with the most tropey predictable story imaginable so as to not alienate turn based fans.
It is hinted that Barnebes is the one who sent benedikta’s head to hugo. After the Titan Boss fight, Barnebes is looking on and remarks how Hugo is easy to manipulate.
So why is it that Clive is a second aikon of fire?
Also why does ultima look like Ifrit?
After finishing the game myself and coming here, I have to say that the story is way better when it’s explained, than when it’s being played through… The pacing of this game is absolutely terrible, there’s a lot of interesing details that can get burried in either repetitive activities as main quest or generally pretty uninteresting sections between the bigger events, entire story is being told through cutscenes making gameplay sections a means to get from one cutscenes to the other (it’s even more visible when playing through NG+ and skipping all the side contrnt). And the further it goes, the more of a cheesy and cringe anime it turns into, which is obviously a matter of preference but for me it was kinda ridiculous to see mature content at one time and that ridiculius anime screaming especially towards the end. I also didn’t like the bad guy… I prefer when bad guys are focused on more personal goals with, let’s say, destroying a world or creating a new world being an effect of collateral damage, rather than their main goal, because stopping such person turned Clive into a pretty generic world saviour…
Came because it’s a new final fantasy game, stayed for torgal
*We are not the same*
Is Clive are truly dead? On the beach we see his hand is affected by curse of crystals but he destoyed them so curse can go any further. I’ll always hope that Clive is alive and happy with Jill, and he is the one who wrote the book.
People need to stop taking these things at face value, the whole “I saw this vague thing, so it must strongly imply” thing is tiresome. Joshua was indeed dead, Clive just used his powers to fix his body which may have been either a desperate attempt to revive him or to just clean his body of the wounds inflicted by Ultima. As for Clive, altho we saw him get the curse only on one hand doesn’t imply that he survived, for long anyway, because It is repeatedly explained throughout the game that once you get the curse, you are a ticking time bomb, it slowly corrodes and eats away at you (literally like cancer) and you only have a little time left to live. Clive most likely wrote the book under Joshuas name, to honor him, with the little time he had left with the selfsame quill that Harpocratese gifted him, then centuries passed and the story was so unbelievable that it became a famous novel.
I know it’s open ended, but I think Joshua lived to write the book because Clive used his own life essence to save him at the end. Because of that Clive sadly died via the curse, but Tomes likely told Joshua when he got back to tell the tales of Final Fantasy with the unique quill he gave Clive. And in the end, Clive’s dreams were realized because we see that humans saved the earth many generations into the future. Bittersweet ending to be sure, but man was it incredible. It’ll stay with me forever! 👏
The story genuinely leaves things open to the players interpretation at the end. Clive is quite the protagonist and for me one of the greatest written heroes in recent memory. Of course that is just my opinion but it has been a long time since a game or story has truly got me thinking. I think about my kids and being there shields. There so much too it and i hope that many people enjoy this game.
I want to see LEVIATHAN THE LOST!!!! lol
Just hate Clive died on that beach alone
I think Clive and Joshua lived. I think a subtle hint at this may be the kids at the end having matching hair styles to each. One blonde, one black
excellent video
But Ultima had everything to do with Joshua “dying” in the beginning of the game. There are quite a few points in this breakdown that aren’t accurate or perhaps misunderstood.
I didn’t like how weak shiva was presented in the game. Besides the opening, she just never really does much or have much impact besides going on a losing streak.
Shouldnt that med girl and dion lover died too once ultima wipe the city out? But they weren’t consider dead.
Cid and Barnabas came from Ash…
I think phoenix gate and Reverie tower in Ash were actually structures built by the ultima collective, not the fallen. All the fallen airships were inspired by these structures but never quite measuring up to the same quality. I believe all the obelisks and Ariete stones were also made by ultima
This is more of story and ending summarized rather than explained … there’s way more details that can be explained on just the ending itself
I believe Barbabus was responsible for Benadicta’s “violation” because of what Habard mentioned after Hugo’s demise
At the end wasn’t it found out by loresman Harpocrates that the guy in the hood Clive was seeing was Ultima? And was at phoenix gate to awaken Clive at the worst time knowing hed haven’t any control his first time iirc. I swear I seen this somewhere?
Really feels like another story in Ivalice. Especially with the Ultima connection.
I dont think Mid is “Mid”
I thought Ultima forced Dion to attack his people, just like how Ultima forced Clive to in the beginning?
Clive takes Hugo’s power immediately after removing his hands, not after defeating Mega-Titan, and can still Prime after this event.
“Dion is actually dead this time”
I’m sad but also, lol
It is possible Joshua lived, as Clive did use the power of the phoenix and Ultima to attempt to revive him, we see his healed body, but no actual confirmation of his life other than as the author of the book.
It’s possible that Clive could have lived, as he only passes out at the end on the beach, his body only showing the start of petrification, only his hand was petrified. The Star Metia fading, was an omen, but not necessarily proof of his death and may only been proof of Magic and Origin being destroyed.
Clive did not have all of the Eikons. Leviathan the Lost is mentioned as the last Eikon by Joshua when he sees the full mural in Ash. No real explanation is noted about Leviathan. Though interestingly, Ultima doesn’t make any mention or hint to Leviathan either. So that’s a big thread missing in the ending, as it was intended for Clive to obtain all of the Eikon powers, The lack of Leviathan may have been why his body could not harness ultima’s power, it did not have that final piece.
In the end though, the goal was achieved, the crystals sucking the land dry of it’s aether were destroyed, and Ultima along with origin were destroyed, removing the source of magic, and likely the source of what caused bearers to be born in the first place. So the world could heal, as the aether was able to soak back into the land. And the blighted areas likely were able to be revitalized over generations. Until the history, and conflict, became fairy tale and legend.
Another thought is it’s entirely possible Clive lived and Joshua did not, and the story of ‘Final Fantasy’ was penned not by Joshua, but by Clive, as he was charged by Harpocretes the Loresman, to pen his story so that he might read it in full. There is enough plausible deniability for many different things to have actually occurred after we see Clive close his eyes on the beach. The only certainty is that Ultima and Origin are gone, and magic and eikons were eventually forgotten as nothing more than a fairy tale penned by an author years ago.
SO BLACK CLOVER
Only part I think you missed was the fact that Clive used the powers of the Phoenix to heal Joshua. Joshua loved to right book. Which is why his name is on it.
Now there been some back and forth on weather or not Clive lived because how can you have the curse of magic use when you destroy all the magic. Tbh I think he’s dead but at the same time if they came out with dlc or ff16-2 I can also see him living maybe being picked up from other people areas of the world and doing them same thing all over again, kinda like god of war
FFXVI had a very ambiguous ending, much like FF7 (meteor hits, lifestream attacks, everything gets bright, we see Aerith, roll credits) with no real closure. I hope there is later DLC to answer some lingering questions (What happened to the Akashic? Did Clive die? (when we saw him the curse had only taken his hand and that was it and he promised Jill he’d come back) Just so many unanswered questions. Did Cid really sent Hugo Benedictas “box”? I just dont see him doing that to her.
Back to XV, I wouldve loved to have seen that get all of its planned episodes, we got the obvious 3 as well as Ardyn, but Aranea and Lunafreya got scrapped completely and part of Episode Noctis got put into a book. so thats a bummer.
thanks for making this so i dont have to suffer through playing it
Clive sent the head, he tells hugo before they’re first fight
I bet you won’t do a story analysis and a retrospective of the Kingdom Hearts series 😏
Clive is definitely alive, the game devs gave all the clues throughout the story dialogues and especially in the side quests. Everyone’s picking up some of the points here and there but to lay out the 7 points that basically prove Clive survived:
1. The final crying scene directly references the side quest dialogue. When is Jill crying the sun rises and she stops crying. This is after Jill and Clive have told each other how much they mean to one another in one of the side quests. During the side quest she mentioned how she would cry looking up at the stars at night during dark times. She tells him that no matter how sad and dark the night is, the sun will always return at dawn. And that she knows that Clive will always return to her.
2. Biology: Wolves howl in nature to communicate with their pack mates to tell them where they are and to guide them back. When Cid is dying in front of the group, Torguil whimpers to show remorse and sadness as but actually doesn’t howl even after Cid dies. So the fact that Torgal is howling instead of whimpering is indicative of Clive being alive.
3. The last thing Clive tells Jill is no more broken promises. He had promised her he would return to her no matter what. And we all know Clive is a man who honors his word.
4. Clive tells Harpocrates that after his quest/journey is done he will put down the sword and take up the pen
5. In the final fight with ultima at the end. Ultima tells Clive that ‘this resistance is a fantasy he clings to’. Clive tells him that the only one living in a fantasy is ultima and that “this would be his final fantasy” (before Clive finally kills him). In the ending post credits scene, the book is titled “Final Fantasy”. The only one to mention that term was Clive in final battle and he was alone there. So no way Joshua would just happen by coincidence to title it the same thing considering it was based off a isolated conversation between ultima and Clive
6. When Cid died, Clive takes up his mantle and go by his name to honor the life he gave and what he stood for. So in the secret ending cutscene with the book author saying Joshua Rosfield, this would make perfect sense for Clive to do in order to honor his brothers memory.
7. If you 100% the game, the secret ending also has one dialogue line during the final fantasy book scene of audio of Clive giving the final narration saying “and that was the end of the journey”. Which is confirmation by itself that Clive lived to chronicle the story.
I’d like to think Joshua lives at the end. Feels like a fitting parallel to him dying at the end of the demo.
would you be willing to make a video on Hollow Knight?
Does anyone else get a FF9 feel?
There are certain parallels I noticed between XIII and XVI:
-The L’cie are like the bearers. Both are physically marked and shunned by society because they have been marked by a higher deity.
-Both final bosses: Ultima and Bhunivelze, are arrogant gods who underestimate human will, and when they are defeated, the world becomes void of magic or resets itself from any kind of magic
-And I might stretch it a bit saying that Lightning Returns and XVI are similar because you only control one character.
I loved the ending and the bittersweet mourning and grief that came with it. I’m assuming the power of the bearers were inextricably tied to the crystals. Like I hope bearers just slowly stopped being born as the generations went on, or perhaps their overt magical influence was diminished to sort of like a sensitivity to aether. Personally I don’t like the whole “no more mutants.” House of M snap to just eliminate the powers of the unfortunate to assimilate them back into society.
Also if we take a more ff7 or ff14 logic of the lands aether and how it begets the life stream. I like to believe the two kids are reincarnations of both Clive and joshua, in a world where they can truly live together in peace
there’s gona be a Leviathan DLC with extra ending since as much as we saw Clive beat a god… he did it without fully being the proper Mythos, he was to have 8 eikons… and he only got 7. I’m taking my bets that Medicine Girl was actually what they intended to make the Leviathan domminant, and in the DLC you’ll have to go to a new area with new enemies (probably a cave) where you battle Leviathan get the Eikon and fight Ultima with the full power of both sides and get a different ending, maybe having Clive ascend to godhood (Lobos) and help humanity or survive the curse due his complete ascension to Mythos.
I feel like Clive didn’t die at the end because he always keeps his promises and promised Jill he’d come back. And if Joshua can come back to life after getting a giant hole in his chest and dying I don’t see why Clive cant
The whole Benedikta in a box thing was brought up again later when Clive was facing off with Hugo he admitted that it was him that did it
Hey everyone, hope u are doing well but as humans we are all gonna die one die so I just wanna say If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.😁❤️❤️😉♥️
This game was garbage. Only thing carrying it was the cinematic fights and music other than that, everything else was boring, repetitive and story had soooo much bullshittery it wasnt even close to a master piece, so many flaws, so many “it just so happens” moments, so many “lets sweep that under the carpet they’ll forget about it or we’ll just give them a epic battle scene and they’ll grip on to that” wasn’t a Final fantasy game at all.
This was my first FF and the eikon fights were the coolest thing I’ve ever seen in a video game.
9:17 I don’t think it is confusing at all. Benditdika likes Cid do to Cid rescuing her from bandits or the like. She unlike cid believes the lies of Barnabas that he wants to build some sort of paradise with all 8 dominants. Cid saw through the lies so he left which hurt Benedictka, and in turn because she believes Barnabas lies she is manipulating Hugo to try to seduce him to their side.
Missed a few stuff and Clive lives. Side quests drop hints and the book is narrated by Clive. Also the platinum trophy is the book and it’s called the Chronicler.
This is one of my favorite stories for videogames outright the tragic beauty was the so far from what I expected it made me want to give ff7 remake another chance which I didn’t really find myself wanting to stick with
Final Fantasy XVI-2: Jill and Torgal travel the land ensuring that Clives will is implemented (Emancipation for the bearers, unifying the land with Byron)
Final Fantasy XVI: Clive Returns
There is the missing Leviathan. That could be it.
i love Gav
I think this game is my GOTY. The story is quite simple and basic with little to no high concept plot line and polished to perfection. Besides Ultima being a god that wants to run away from death everything else happens because shits happens. War is for profit, betrayal for the prestige, and madness comes from love. And magic just happens to be the hot commodity.
The one thing that never made sense is the treatment of Jill in the land of iron. Dominants are nukes. I understand they used children to make her change into shiva and fight for them. But she could just easily destroy their whole civilization. Never made sense to me. Also, the whole treatment of bearers. Like everybody obviously wants to wield magic. Their whole way of life revolves around using crystals for that very purpose. I can understand the country wanted to use them as slave labor. But it never made sense that people thought them inferior or less then human. If anything, they are better. They can do things they have to use crystals to do. Shit crazy.
I really wish they would have explained certain aspects a little bit more indepth.
The Fallen is just one example. During my playthrough i thought that the ultima was result of all the fallen merging together since they were so advanced technology wise. But it seems they were just the first humans created by ultima who probably just couldnt control the advanced magic they were researching?
The whole Logos aspect in the final fight with ultima. Logos being a concept which embodies something very crucial for ultima and his people something that puts us directly beside them.
And then this is just a little confusing for me: clive already took titans powers in the battle in rosaria. why take kupka to the mother crystal? Even with kupka dead clive would still go on and destroy the crystals. The only thing i remembered is that they talked about severing his consciousness so that ultima can take over. But then later Barnabas talks about that he is only presentable to ultima when he has taken all the eikons?
Please cover fear and hunger
Do a doom video plz
I was skeptical at first, but I was wrong. The story of this game really hit me to my heart and core. The machinations of the vile puppeteers behind the tragedy of this story really made me feel emotions. The ending though moved me to tears.
I like how the game heavily revolves on peoples willpower. From the Will gauge to clive losing his will, only for Joshua and friends to help him in a time if need. It’s a great concept and Ultima couldn’t break that.
the latest final fantasy feels like a game of thrones book
Thanks for mentioning that they all die at the end. It is a tragic ending, but demonstrates that freedom of one’s people comes at personal sacrifice. The heroes sacrificed their joys and lives to ensure those of their posterity. People keep debating about Clive still being alive. I️t was very clear that he died.
I really like this narrative, but can someone explain who ‘Logos’ is??
Had to stop watching you had some spoilers I just wanted to refresh my brain up to a certain part of the game smh
It seems you missed the conversation after we deceat Kupka for the final time, between Barnabas and Slepnir where Sleipnir says “kupka gave his life for a womans head.” I thought it was obvious that it was her head in a box and obvious that someone wanted Kupka to go after clive and cid. This was all Barnabas doing to further Ultimas plan, he never cared for Benedikta she was just another pawn in Ultimas game.
So hang on you didn’t think that the 2 boys at the end were Clive’s twin sons and that lady in the kitchen was Jill in 10 years time or so. I thought that was a given after the credits. I also assumed the final fantasy book at the end was Joshuas diary of the events that happend
Bit of a hot take but I think the dlc might cover whatever happens to leviathan. It’s said that he’s known as “Leviathan the Lost” which isn’t elaborated on. Also there was a scene where Clive and the gang stumbled on a gigantic hole with water pouring into it that was never really elaborated on. All that was mentioned was that there was a great battle fought there, so maybe leviathan’s dominant tried to cause a uprising against ultima and got erased for it. Just a bit of my own head canon really but it’d be cool if that’s a part of the dlc
Joshua didn’t die. He clearly gave him life force at the end. There was no imposter who wrote the book. Joshua did. As for Clive, his fate is unknown. But to have survived 18 years of hell and to go out like that I wasn’t really feeling it. I didn’t like how Dion went out either. Still a wonderful game though.
Im hoping we get DLC on Leviathan the Lost. What happened to the Dominant of Leviathan and is he/she/they still alive or did the line end hundreds of years ago?
Maybe I just wasn’t paying enough attention but I was under the impression that while Clive attempted, he could not infact bring his brother back. This is why his physical body was healed, but he never regained consciousness. I also think Clive sent all the aether and magick collected and sent it elsewhere. Which is why that red star twinkled. 🤔 I also should have known Clive would die considering the had a character like Harpocrates which is based off Greek philosphers and the such. Of course it would end in tragedy and bittersweet melancholy. Sucks we didnt get to clap the icedussy b4 we died 😢 we’ll get em in the next life Cid’s 🫡
game has been my temporary Dragons Dogma 2 w/o the gameplay variety and replayability given by an rpg and its writing.
Fun fact the guy who voiced ultima also voiced the main villain of xenoblade 3 z
I will be back when I finish the game.
WOW, that Trueblade video was not kidding when it comes to FF16 and Tales of Berseria’s similarities.
Seems nobody figures out or listened through story and side quest. Making this quick.
Clive is alive, he’s the one the written the book name final fantasy and so taking Joshua name as hes the one provided the journey.
Now to put it together, At a side quest before origin horpocates said if he put down his sword and star writing, which he gave clive his pen.
The tittle “final fantasy” no way Joshua can make that name for the book. Cause clive said this to ultima in his final battle.
As for kids, i believe they are descendants of clive and Joshua i think torgal to. What a great game this is even for devs setting up meanings in the ending.
Dont skip side quest 💀 i seen many people rush into the story without side quest. They said they didn’t cared and only for the berserker ring.
Now heres a theory it may sound funny, Joshua Dlc. Why? Why was he playble at first in the beginning.
Dishonoured would be pretty cool
What a dumb story and ending
Gingy, do you really think that Clive died at the end ???
so the writers decided to give Jill the short end of the stick ? ,
the song “Moongazing” in the end is about Jill wish for Clive to come back to her if you read the english translation : last sentence “This flame will never go out Ever..”
and what the last scene in the game if you read the full song :
“In the moonlight the willow sways
On this roadside I am but a stone
Visions of you come to me
Like counting sheep
If there is any meaning to our parting ways
Then you need not be sad
From the silence to a distant sky
Fill your heart with an unwavering love
No matter what night
No matter the cost
Haven’t we been living this life together
As if in the blink of an eye
I was yearning for something Gazing at the moon
I was so afraid of the storm, when you appeared before me
And I’m so glad that it was you
It’s as if nothing before this moment ever mattered
This flame will never go out Ever”
Can someone tell me if I missed something about the dominants. From what I understand there’s 8, excluding Ifrit, but there’s only 7 in the game. Did I miss something?
I love the game, story, and the characters ❤
A good condensed recap with only a few things that seem slightly off but close enough.
I was really hoping to see if we would be able to travel to that thin slice of land untouched by the blight in the northern territories 🙁
Anyone else get Gurren Lagann vibes – especially at the end fight? Or just me?
Clive ahd Joshua didn’t die lol 😂
I really don’t understand why people with power or magic is the victim here. For sure they can defend themselves or just wipe those without power.
Just beat it this morning. I woke up, made a couple grilled cheese for breakfast, then ended a God who is to far up his own butt.
Its not an RPG.
@Gingy great video, thanks for putting it all in perspective. You did an even better job than Vivian and Hapocrates. I just have one doubt remaining. The hooded man at Phoenix Gate – how did he know that Clive was Mythos? Also did he give the ifrit eikon to clive because before that point of time, clive hadnt shown any signs of being a dominant? The origin of Ifrit is still a bit unclear.
The fallen might be the Lufenians from Strangers in Paradise
Lol y’all must have not have seen Clive’s hair turning white when he was on the beach broody is gone
Nothing is definite in the end. They absolute left it to interpretation. Assuming Clive is dead is presumptive, especially since they showed he was unable to channel magic anymore, therefore his existence doesn’t break his terms of eliminating it from the world. Jill grieves at first, but as the sun rises, it reminds her that with the sun rising, Clive has always returned to her (a whole last side quest with her reiterates this). Also Clive was the narrator of the story (his voice over starting and ending the game) so he could easily have written the book and used Joshua’s name as a nom de plume in honor of his brother.
***SPOILER WARNING ON A SPOILER VIDEO***
Only thing I wished the game did (and my hope for DLC actually to happen) is explain the origins of the Eikons and Dominants. Like Ultima being responsible for humantiy and Mothercrystals, cool; but Ultima never said the purpose of the Eikons and Dominants nor did we get a good explanation of the source of the mural everywhere.
Which is why I hope if they do decide to do DLC epsiode/spin off game they do a prequel instead of a sequel. Show us how the Eikons and Dominants came to be. Have it be an epic quest to find their God who went missing so the Dominants must gather. Include Leviathan. And have it be being able to switch between the Dominants instead of Eikon abilities on 1 person. Give it the bittersweet ending of their God has forsaken them but the Dominants part ways each making a path to help guide humanity forward (theme of forging your own path) so some actually are hopeful for a future where one day someone will come along with a solution to handle a world without a god. Then your core cast are ancestor characters and the plot of it setups how all the various nations were established. Maybe Eikons are portions of Ultima’s kin that are just splintered off portions of their power, kinda like how Ultima was an amalgamation of Ifrit and Phoenix; so like Bahamut and Alexander, Odin and Diabolos, Garuda and Valefor, and so on. Thus visiting Mothercrystals, another Eikon is born with the first Dominant being a party member with an extra Mothercrystal being in the south of Ash that is technically the first destroyed before written history.
Just potential ideas as I think a prequel would be more beneficial than a sequel, also divide the fanbase less.
Last bit, I totally thought Jill was gonna die originally going through the first half of the game because I thought they would go Clive carries on the will of all those who died was endgame. But them saying I love you kinda sealed the deal that Clive was gonna die as the way the story was written, both Clive and Jill being alive in the end seemed like a stretch. Kinda wish it was Jill just so we didn’t see her get sidelined way too much (along with the more confusion of what exactly can they do after Clive takes their powers) and kinda just shoved her into love interest slot to leave her there. I think she and Clive have probably the best romance plot from a FF game, but Jill’s character kinda fizzled out in the last bit of the game just to give that romance. Like if she could still prime like Dion (when we saw she still had Ice magic) then her not being Shiva, who floats through the air when all the talks of wings we happening, in the final battles is kinda a waste of character especially since it’s not like she was shown stepping up into leadership when Clive was gone. If they did a sequel DLC episode, it better be Jill focused and about her, Gav, and Torgal moving forward, Jill and Gav becoming close because they both loved Clive deeply (yes, I said it BOTH loved Clive), and grieving and how to best honor his memory with still no confirmation if Clive is alive or dead but the world goes on as if he is.
P.S. If the book at the end is just the game being retold, then how does it cover the parts neither Clive or Joshua were there for?
Why are final fantasy plots so convoluted these days. Honestly this was soooo hard to follow and I miss the more simple but strong plot lines.
Damn the story is so all over the place…
Stupid ending of him dying
I believe why Dion was able to transform into Bahumut and stay sane even after Clive took his power was that Dion was more sound of mind compared Hugo and Bennedikta who were distraught after being beaten by Clive.
Nectar is too cute man
Clive cut her head off and sent it to Hugo, it is in their dialect right before their first encounter in Rosaria castle. Clive said, “I did what Cid didnt have the power to do, I killed her” so it is discussed later on. Also it is her head in the box, I heard a popular youtuber say “is it her ashes?” which is ridiculous because how would Hugo know whose ashes they were. It was clearly her head, a la the movie Seven “whats in the box, WHATS IN THE BOX?”
I just wanna know if Joshua lived 🙁
The brothers deserve to be together finally.
The world of fantasy was destroyed so a better one would take place.
Never a game in the Final Fantasy series was so true to its name.
I don’t know why anybody thinks joshua died, he got healed by clive and is the writer of the book. Clive is not dead either but I’ll let you figure out why.
Here’s a question
Who is greagor? Another deity? Polar opposite of ultima?
Nektar is MVP, prove me wrong.
Clive is alive
Pretty sure it was sleipnir to cut off benediktas head. During the cutscene of drakes fang shattering there’s a conversation between Barnabas and sleipnir which reads: “Hugo kupka… The man who gave his life… For a woman’s head”
Not sure if it was already noted, but Clive claims to Hugo later that it was him who sent Benedikta to Hugo.
The book Final Fantasy that is shown at the end, is obviously a romantisized version of the story, where things are greatly axxagerated. And that’s the ng plus final Fantasy mode, since you encounter way stronger monsters in stages and mission and you can craft better gear. That’s howI interpreted it, that the ng plus final Fantasy mode tells the story from the book, which was romantisized for purpose of it being somewhat of an autobiography, well not entirely but you catch my drift
Clive could still be alive but am pretty sure i saw the petrification reach his cheeks at the end implying that he did die (or was supposed to at least)
however there are ways for him to survive still
UIltima needed Clive to gain the powers from all the Eikons and Clive was actually missing one
in Ash Joshua talks about the Eikons and mentions Leviathan the lost (DLC??)
had Clive absorbed him he might have been able to withstand the curse
and at the end Clive is shown at a beach and Leviathan is the Eikon of water
he could have made contact and absorbed him just before he died to the curse
we also have the fallen and the people that live outside of the Twins they could have had a hand in saving him from his fate
anyhow am pretty sure there will be a DLC and Clive will be present (though my gut tells me he wont be the protagonist )
Rama? Or Ramuh?😂
SPOILERS
That ending killed me. I’ve never been a fan of endings like these because of how easily I get invested in the characters. I was hoping that Clive would survive at least to be with Jill. I wanted to see more on how everyone reacted and how they’re moved on but it all happened too fast for me to comprehend what happened. I know of the end credits but I wanted more of the crew afterwards.
Correction, not some people, only his mother thinks of him as the first born failure
Gingy, Clive confirms in his final battle with Kupka that he was the one who took Benedikta’s head off.
He said Cid didn’t have the stomach for it so he did it in his stead. Which I thought was a bit shocking to hear our protagonist lopped a lady’s head off lol
2:41 they’re slaves because of the war that broke about between bearers and non bearers and the continental Accord that established bearers as non persons
2:08 the crystalline dominion and kanver are missing
1:33 barnabas from the south and the sharpening stone you give to blackthorne was from the Japan equivalent in valisthea
The world of ff16 is called Valestia? Lost me right there
Honestly, I stopped watching the play throughs. At part 33, I just want to see story explained videos like this one 😎. Not sorry bout it either. Haha
Spoilers ahead*
This game actually had me gasping at times and teared up 2 or 3. The ending and the side quest about torgal’s past got me good!😢
It’s not that strong but my head cannon is Jill had a kid with Clive from the beach scene and named him Joshua or Joshua was actually revived.
Clive did not die at the end. Only his left hand, the one he used the spell with, was petrified and we saw Cid with the same condition and he was fine. Also it was hi non-dominant aka non-writing hand.
It reallt comes full circle with the epilouge and then immediately restarting the game, the very first words of the game are the opening lines of the book and they are narrated by Clive. Clive also has a history of taking on people’s names after they’ve died.
Also the name of the book is “Final Fantasy” which Clive literally says to Ultima before the final blow, there would be no reason for Joshua (or anyone else) to name it that. Then in the sidequest Clive straight up says he wanted to write a book after it was over.
He totally survived.
Bro what’s the point of this video really. Just completed the game and wanted to check out the vid to maybe dive deeper in lord etc but gingy is really just telling the story we were presented . Kinda doesn’t help anything
If nothing else, Clive was a phenomenal protagonist. I loved his struggle, growth and deep relationships with his friends and family. I don’t think I’ve been that invested in a FF main character before except maybe Zack from Crisis Core. Bravo CBU3!
The gameplay was so-so, but the story was outstanding. It bothers me that we can’t tell a good heroes journey story in the West anymore. We need Japan for that….. What was the last movie you watched that matched this story? Outside of a few notable exceptions, it the same for games. Everything has to be subverted now. The heroes journey is being associated with masculinity I think and honestly, that’s probably correct. Not that woman don’t enjoy it, but I think it resonates with boys and men more. Anyway, I’ve loved FF since 91 and while I didn’t care for 15, 16 had the best story perhaps in the entire series. In the top 2-3 for sure. I appreciate that sometimes the hero has to die in a good story like this. The game accomplished it in a very moving way.
Game is 🗑️
Do people who make these videos even play side-quests?
I think the box was Benedikta’s ashes lol why would you think it’s a dismembered body part 😂
Maybe a Leviathan the Lost DLC? That’ll be amazing.
Final Fantasy VII -Aerith died, but Cloud still survive, maybe remake will have something else
Final Fantasy VIII – Rinoa alive for sure, Squall is questionale but i hope he is alive.
Final Fantasy X – Tidus died. well, lucky X-2 Yuna can resurrect Tidus
Final Fantasy XV – Noctis died. Lunafreya even died earlier
Final Fantasy XVI – Clive died. Jill alive, but lonely.
the game become darker and no happy ending, the death romance story. Final fantasy XV will be the last game i play since can not accept this kind of sad story line. No option to let player choose the ending.
why phoenix didnt morph with ifrit to become ifrit risen like when they beat bahamut when they were fighting ultima wtf
also shiva should have join the fight…she didnt to save herself while bahamut sacrifice himself
and why clive didnt try to revive dion too but just joshua?it sux if only dion dead while they both survived!
Mid is the daughter of Cid…..
oh boy, what writing….
Just finished what a game.. Epic rollercoaster ride those thats critical in it before giving it a chance missing out.
20:18 torgal is best boy and supporting cast member in game
So who cut off benedikta’s head and mailed it to Hugo?
There is one thing that confuses me about the story. Excluding Ifrit were there 8 Eikons or 9? Because I’m sure Joshua mentioned Leviathan during the Odin mission.
I can’t be the only one that wanted Anabelle dead.
I was thinkng a big ass rock would fall on her and crush her 🙄
Hated how she died l because she deserved a horrible death.
Fucking love the game and story 🙏😍
Bart?
Very disappointed with the ending of that game. I watched the credits feeling frustrated because we LITERALLY just had 15 do this exact thing of a sad ending. Also why be ambiguous??? Is Clive alive or not? Leviathan??? What happened to everyone else at the hideaway?????
Clive lived. Too many reasons saying he lived. The curse went from his finger tips and spread throughout his hand and stopped when he stopped using the magic. This is to show that Clive isn’t allowed to use his power anymore, not that he died. Cid had his whole arm petrified and he got more hurt the more he used his power sure, but other than that, he lived. Not only that, in a side quest, Jill says to Clive “when the dawn breaks , you always come back to me”, and when the dawn breaks when she was crying, she looks up and sighs in relief and smiles. Also when you see the sun going up, you can see a shadow that looks like the boat that Clive and Jill was on when we first went on the airship, so someone is approaching the hideaway. Not one thing shows that he died. He basically just passed out of exhaustion on the beach. Many things from symbolism to Clive even narrating the story from beginning to end (which was done in Heavensward by the same writer), which how can he do if he’s dead. Not only that, but the song that plays when the sun comes up and Jill smiles. If you play FF, you would know the symbolism and what that implies. And the Metia granting Jill’s wish as well. She always prayed for Clives return and when she sees Metia fade, she at first sees it as a bad thing, but soon after it fades, Dawn breaks and she is seen to stop crying, look up, sighs in relief and smile, and seconds later we hear Clive say that that is the end of their story. Metia didn’t fade because she lost her wish. Metia faded because Jill GOT her wish. I have no clue how anyone can get anything other than he’s alive out of that alone, even leaving out all the other stuff. I think the answer is way more clear than people think.
I don’t think the story is up to interpretation as much as people believe. There are puzzle pieces in the game itself that explains the ending. Like is a puzzle up to interpretation because you need to put the puzzle pieces together? No. I am very confident that Clive is alive. Again, there are many many things hinting that Clive is alive, but absolutley nothing showing that he is dead other than him passing out on the beach from exhaustion. And why would they show that he can no longer use his power if he was dead? The petrification very clearly stopped at his hand after he stopped using the magic and we KNOW having your hand petrified doesn’t kill you. Even bearers only died because they keep using magic to the point where the curse would spread to the point of no return. We have seen bearers who escaped with petrified hands that were fine or at least not dying.
I’m confused.. how are these magic users pinned down by the normal populace and don’t fight back or take over? What they lack in numbers they can make up in magic right?
Elwin took Jill in to ensure the North wouldnt try anything funny as well. There was a political reason for it as well.
Sooooo what’s up with leviathan?
Sounds like a buncha soft magic gobblety gook to me
When joshua seperates from clive in walooed, he mentions ‘leviathan the lost’ when hes analysing the mural. idk if theres any other mention of leviathan other than that.
how are people not realizing that Joshua is really alive? he was narrating the book that he wrote from start to finish. The narrator was Joshua’s voice people
the last time i cried this hard was at the ending of final fantasy 15, fucking beautiful, Ff16 my game of the year this year, yea i know resident evil 4 remake, spiderman 2, lies of p, but this is it im telling you, the feels, the music, the gameplay, the story, 9.5/ 10 ONLY because it wasnt steady frame rate outside of combat, and u cant turn off motion blur.
edit:they should add a DLC where u fight Omega, Shinryu, and the Ghost train
We get only a single mention of Leviathan the Lost, Eikon of water. The entire game, I was wondering where Leviathan was because we only see 7 Eikons. (I do not count Ifrit.) We are likely going to get a DLC about the 3 lost mothercrystals. There was Dzemekys, at Boklad. The massive perfect circle crater, where Ultima itself destroyed the crystal and area as a punishment to the rebellion humanity started. Then we have the Northern Territories and the Drakes Eye. And there’s Drakes Horn, in Waloed far to the south.
I think a video on the story of devil may cry would be awesome maby every game
13:42 Clive tells Hugo during their fight he was the one who sent her head or body part to him
Great summation. Extremely well done!
I hate how every single FF game is about destroying magic instead of seeing it as just another precious resource.
indomitable humans spirit? people will be free without magic? such delusional view of humanity ignoring all of their sin and weakness it makes me sick to the point i want to puke
What happened to the Blight?
One thing you missed about Jill, she didn’t grow up with the Rosfields because ‘she needed somewhere new to live due to the Blight’. The northern territories rose against Rosaria & after putting the rebellion down, the archduke took a northern Princess back with him as a ‘ward’ (hostage) to ensure they remained docile.
Pretty common in medieval times to do so, often with the expectation that the ward would marry into the royal line thus uniting the factions and prolonging the peace.
10:30 due to the themes of will, I think it was their will being broken that prevented them from being able to prime properly. both benedikta and hugo had their wills broken by clive, but dion still had his will to atone for his sins against his people.
Clive healed Joshua at the end and that’s how he survived, right?
Clive survived and that is his book.
maybe he took joshoa name as he did with cid.
I believe the ending is what you want it to mean thats why its stand alone with no plans for dlc. Also for everyone, after you finish all the side missions at the end you can go back to jill and ask to talk about (memories) she well tell you how she wants to cry rage and freak out and clive tells her to do that, but!! she says Ill wait till the sky is clear and i can see the moon again ill save my tears for that! I believe the metia star granted her wish that night as the star faded and brang clive back to her, I strongly believe clive had wrote the book cause of the loremasters quest. He had already secured the realm to forming a treaty and he promised her he wouldnt ever break another promise. Losing his brother was real and I think dion died as well. those are my thoughts.
How did Joshua get captured by the benedikta? Did that get explained?
So I’m going to guess Leviathan is going to be DLC content since they mention eight elements and yet we never see a single enemy use water magic but we know it exist.
Mid did visit Cid’s grave after leaving the Hideaway, she put her hammer there. She wanted to be alone for that moment.
There’s something refreshing about a mainline Final Fantasy being released that doesn’t feel like it’s trying to put their characters in Dissidia or any other related games or trying to be franchise. The story is self contained, there’s no movie, there’s no sequel (hopefully), and while I have no doubt Clive and friends will make it to DFFOO eventually, all of them feel like they were meant to be in their own game first. They’re all FF16 characters first before they’re FF characters that have to fit in to this multimedia franchise and be plushies, statues, guest characters and cameos.
Bro what are you talking about that Oliver was killed? Oliver was not a real boy… he was creation of Ultima
i’m sure someone in the comments has already said it but Dion isn’t guaranteed dead. he was alive when while falling with very little visual damage. and he has already proven falling from great height does not kill him.
Joshua clearly survived. Clive brought him back to life and healed him.
10/10, recency bias aside, best FF game ever and game of the year so far. We’ll see what starfield got, but I don’t see it topping this.
Combat is some of the best I’ve ever played. I’d say this, Ghost of Tsushima and Scarlet Nexus have the best combat imo. I did have some issues with many of the mobs feeling spongey at times, but for the most part I enjoyed it. It’s quite deeper than it appears on the surface and the Eikon system allow you to put some really cool combos together.
Narratively, legitimately felt like a playable game of thrones series. Loved the gritty and mature story. I hope they continue to put out stuff like this. So many great moments and emotional gut punches. I would’ve liked to have seen a few characters fleshed out more.
Namely Jill(who I still love and is waifu), Benedikta and Mid, but everyone else I think was really good. It sucks that they left Jill on the sideline for the final arc. She should’ve been there and it would’ve fit with the theme of not allowing ultima to sever the bonds between them.
Speaking of that final arc, I still largely liked it. The boss fight with ultima made up for most shortcomings, but I hate how much of a letdown Barnabas was. Him basically just being a puppet seemed like such a waste of a cool character and dominant.
A few side quests dragged on way too long as well, namely that out of the shadows one with Mid. Absolutely ridiculous length on that one.
Boss fights in the game are up there with God of War(OG) as the best I’ve ever seen. Otherworldly in scale. I have so many screenshots from the big Bahamut and Titan and final boss fight. Just playable spectacles and fantastic. I would’ve liked to have been able to play as more of the dominants though, if I could improve one thing besides the characterisation of a few side characters, it would be that.
I’ll miss it
Edit: oh yea also Jill and Clive deserved an explicit happy ending. It’s clear he’s alive, but I needed to see babies and a wedding after all they’ve been thru. This kinda gave off KH3 vibes.
I would love to see a DLC focused on Leviathan “the Lost” with the reward being confirmation that Clive is either dead or alive, and add Leviathan’s water powers rounding out all the elements in the game.
There where a few Eikons missing. Like Leviathan and Alexander so maybe the expansion will be stories about thoses.
Im here just wondering about one mystery, what about leviathan???
he seems just to be cut out even tho they seem to have be one of the eikons in the game, eight elements of magic water being one of them, the complete mural shows it bottom right and joshua flat out says it “Leviathan the lost”
kinda seems like it was cut from the game at a late stage so they edited that line and moved on
I hope they do a Final Fantasy XVI-2. Explore other gods like Ultima tryin’ to fight over this promised land thing. And those boss battles, my god they’re so dope
I had to download this. Too much info to process the first time.’
Barbabas definitely was the one who beheaded Benedikta and during the first fight between Clive and Hugo , Hugo says about putting Jill’s head in a box like benedikta
One of my favourite things about this game is just how much characters openly love each other. Lots hugging, kissing, touching foreheads and the like. It’s really refreshing to see how much the crew like each other and show with more than words that they hold each other dear. Like I was so happy to see Clive and Gav hug after Gav moved away the first time. I love that these guys love each other
Clive lives. Why he is narrating.
I’m taking a shot in the dark and saying the Joshua who wrote the fairytale at the end was to imply that Clive got Jill pregnant.
I just really wish that Clive survive so that he can be with Jill. I really love how they build up clive and jill’s relationship since childhood, and i would even dare say its even better than tidus and yuna love story.
When it come to Hugo and Bennadikta’s box, I always thought it was Sleipnir, as he can have multiple copies of himself and is found to take Hugo away from Clive after their fight so Barnabas most likely keeping an eye on the dominants within his reach. Why use Cid’s name instead of Clive I won’t know, but maybe its about the name’s renown. I do wish this point was made more clear, even if i can just chalk it up to Ultima in the end, I think showing who truly manipulated Hugo would really show how threatening this party was.
Thank you for this video. Really well done! Love the combat in this game, but there are simply WAY too many cutscenes. 20-21 hours of cutscenes is something I just simply don’t have time for and it’s a shame because I also enjoy the game’s story. It will be interesting to see where this game and the franchise as a whole goes next though.
I really enjoyed the game, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t salty about the ending.
Clive was totally fine after the final fight. He then heals Joshua and destroys the origin. He has the literal power of a god and those two things turn him to stone? 🤨 I feel like the power required to take destroy that place was not that significant.
I get there is a chance he’s alive but if he’s not then the power scaling of that moment feels lackluster compared to feats achieved throughout the game.
Overall I thought it was great not amazing, the pacing and story was all over the place.
I’ll sum it up for you…all around trash
As much as I like the ending, I wish there would be a happy ending to a final fantasy game for the mc and party etc
In my head the entire game was just a stoey book written by Joshua Rosfield and he wrote himself in as a character the final scene of the game was the real world and the kids were just acting out charcters from their Favorite book. Like Harry Potter
I have a theory: I think the real villain is Clive! Imagine what will happen after magic is gone. The entire world will revert to the Stone Age, and all technologies will vanish. Chaos will arise everywhere, and bearers will be the first group to die. Clive is a mass murderer!.
Decided to hold off on this video until I beat the game, and it was totally amazing. I enjoyed every second, even if there were a lot of side quests and such lol. Square enix really had time to cook with this one, and amazing video. I watched the metal gear one too, even if it took me near a week 😂😂
Clive it’s alive……. in my heart
You 100% misunderstood the post credit scene. It’s not the future it’s literally just a STORY book. Then game we just played was is just kids imagination.
13:17 In this scene I thought the box contained Benedicta’s ashes, not her head.
Leviathan the lost dlc will have him save Clive in an alternative ending
I feel like with limiting the party members to just Jill, Josh, and Torgal I got more attached to the party than in past final fantasy games. Anytime one of them was in danger I felt actual distress and hoped that everything would be all right. I desperately wanted Jill and Clive to be shown traveling together at the end like she mentioned in her last side quest. The ambiguous ending may not be what most people wanted but that feeling of hoping for the best despite not having the answers is what the producer wanted to convey I suppose.
So clive turned into a god and then killed himself? I just can’t take anymore tragedy man, FFS where is the happy ending option
I’ve literally just finished the game, and genuinely am fuming about how bad the ending is. I am so tired of final fantasy having these garbage endings with MC always having to die, like literally can we have 1 happy ending just 1 maybe, the last happy ending we got was 9.
It’s not dark edgy and different cause so far you’ve done the down beat ending in you last 5 titles.
The game being a CAG instead of an RPG and then the MC dying is a double down of how crap this game is. Been a fan since the 90’s and I’m done with FF now.
Ultima is a godly entity that had split his physical body to possess each mother crystal in order to absorb the aeither, so upon breaking each mother crystal released a body of Ultima which would return to the original body in Waelood in order for him to attain much more strength. That isn’t confusing, Ultima actually explains this at the end.
Wait, what? i thought Olivier never really existed and was just Ultima the whole time. You’re saying ultima was influencing the real Olivier? Then who did Dion impale and turn into blue dust?
I’ve starting to believe that the Final Fantasy should just be a franchise title like Tom Clancy with the Ghost Recon games, rather than using ‘/‘ numbers. For example this game should have been called Final Fantasy: Mythos, y’all get the idea. 😉
I usually don’t cry to works of fiction, but this is one of the few that I did
Cid is everywhere
Final fantasy: Naruto
I have heard it was cut content as well, but it might have a chance to come into the game somehow. I noticed a few things that seem odd.
So what we do know is :Early in the game they mention the world has 8 Eikons : Odin, Bahamut, Phoenix, Shiva, Titan, Garuda, Ramuh, and Levithan…because the world never knew of Ifirit until Clive.
Very oddly, Levithan is not searchable with Tombs (even fully leveled) while all other Eikons are. So how can people speak of Levithan…but there is nothing we can read up on of it? Outside of being mentioned in like 2 conversations as “Levithan the Lost” (interesting word choice).
If you go into your room at the hideaway and look at the mural on the wall, you can clearly see Levithan in it. Was this when they challenged Ultima last time and failed? Wouldn’t the Eikon be passed down to someone, or is he still out there somewhere? I dunno…
Totally possible they stripped it out of the game and missed a few things, but it could also be that they are not focusing on it on purpose, so there is something to add to later. There’s a lot of options they could do here with that.
Thank you for this, I really appreciate these kind of videos since many people(like me) don’t have access to the game but the story and everything was really amazing, no matter the division amongst the fanbase you can’t tell me that this is not a final fantasy game and as someone who started with Lightning Returns I can tell you that as long as the players believe in the story no matter what form the gameplay takes it will always be Final Fantasy.
And what the hell you still kill God in the end so you can’t tell me otherwise.
FF16 is trash
Yep here’s hoping we get a free dlc from Yoshi P and team, such a classy ending if not though
I’ll said that Ultima was also going up against the reincarnation of the same people he wanted to revive, that is Humanity.
Clive surviving is not speculation. It’s been practically confirmed, and those who pay attention, did sidequests and start a second playthrough are rewarded with that fact. Here’s some of the proof:
1. The Final Fantasy Book and Aliases. This had to be written by Clive, penned in Joshua’s name. Clive goes by the alias Wyvern again in a Blacksmith sidequest, and also Cid to honor his legacy. He would do the same to honor Joshua after his death, or simply to give him credit and a legacy. Clive always desired to live in obscurity, even declining the idea to Uncle Byron about ruling Rosaria, and when called the Duchy Marquess, he rather be called just Clive. The sidequest a Tail to Tell with Harpocrates explicitly shows that Clive wants to write a book about his journey after it ends and it is Harpocrates’ wish he will do so. He even gives him his own special quill to do it. Notice also, that Clive is narrating his story both at the beginning and the very end AFTER he supposedly “dies.” Take note of how he sounds while narrating the beginning as well. He puts on a very “narrator” kind of voice that sharply differs from his normal acting for the duration of the game, like he is telling a story dramatically. We the player are being told the story, and “imagining it” by playing through the game. Add on more foreshadowing that Clive loves stories. The first cutscene at the Final Sin waterfall, Jill makes mention that Clive had many books growing up and he tells her he especially loved the ones about heroes fighting gods. If, by some chance, Joshua did survive, he still could not have wrote the book without Clive being alive too. For one, the title itself of Final Fantasy is pulled from Clive’s dialogue. And the events are entirely from his perspective, and Joshua and Jill would not have known all the details to his story. Then, the fact that Clive, not Joshua narrates the opening and ending is a giveaway, and Joshua has no connection to Harpocrates. And, I believe that if Clive died, and Joshua wrote it, he probably would have put the book in Clive’s name instead to honor him.
2. The Post Credit Family are Clive and Jill’s descendants. Not only do the boys have Clive and Joshua’s hair colors, but the mother has silver hair, which is extremely rare in the game and appears to be a northern trait. This not only applies to Jill, but it is mentioned her father was named “Silvermane”. And, they have a wolf pup. We see actual dogs in the game during sidequests and none of them even closely resemble Torgal as much as this cute little fella named Bahamut does. Notice this family owns the Final Fantasy book written by “Joshua” Rosfield.
3. The Saint and the Sectary. Before playing War of the Eikons, the two Post Credit children have dialogue about playing “The Saint and the Sectary”. The one brother refuses to, because he does not want to play the role of the antagonist “Madu.” This play is the very same one Clive acts out to prove who he is to his Uncle Byron. It was his favorite growing up, and he always played Sir Crandall and forced his uncle to play Madu. What are the chances they own the book and know that play unless Clive passed it down through his family. Why include a hyper specific detail barely anyone will catch, if it did not have purpose?
4. Priceless Sidequest. Jill and Clive talk about a future together. Specifically, Jill tells Clive “I realized that no matter how terrible the night, the dawn would always come. That you would always come. For me. And you have. Again and again.” This gives symbolism as to why Torgal stops howling and Jill stops crying and gasps as she sees the sun rise. The end is hopeful now, because she realizes he will return.
5. Promises Foreshadowed Dialogue. Combine Clive’s quote “No more broken promises” with his promise to return to Jill. Jill tells Clive that he always tries to save everyone, but the one person he needs to save is himself. This foreshadow ties up the whole narrative. Clive also promises that they will “find a way to save each other”. If the star going out means her wish was granted, then it could have played a literal role in saving him. But that is debatable.
6. Joshua’s Death Speech. In it, he talks of having faith, faith that Clive will save everyone, honor their father’s dream, and faith that he will honor Jill’s plea to save himself. If Clive dies, this entire death speech is completely undermined and would diminish the value of Joshua’s death and his purpose for Clive in the narrative. Not to mention, his faith would be misplaced. The inability of the Phoenix to resurrect the dead is not just used here, but it was foreshadowed long before, when Clive states it to Gav at Cid’s grave. So while there is a chance Joshua lives, he has a high probability of not surviving also.
7. The petrification curse is not instantaneous. Notice how only Clive’s hand was petrified and stopped at the wrist. It was only at his fingertips, further spreading only when he summoned a flame, stopping when he put the flame out. Notice also that he eliminated magic. Cid lasted his entire duration in the game with a petrified arm, and it was implied that it took a long time of magic use to get this way. It was only spreading because he kept using magic and priming. The priest at the chapel in Rosaria also specifically states that “With each drawing of aether” does the curse spread. Bearers only petrify because their owners forced them to continuously use magic, and many were shown surviving with petrified limbs. If they intended to kill off Clive, they would have shown his face petrify for far more emotional reaction out of fans. The game is not shy with showing death, gore, tragedy etc. If we look at Kupka’s death, they showed half his torso and legs gone, and the remainder of his body fully turned and crumbled to dust. For Benedikta, we know her head was cut off after death. For Cid, he got ran through and there was a grave. They would not have shown Clive’s death in such a half baked way of just his hand turning to stone.
8. Torgal’s Sidequest More than Words. In it, Torgal is looking out in the distance. And it is revealed that he is looking out towards Rosaria because he wants to go there. Charon makes mention that he is likely pining. And it must have been very hard on him losing his Eikon masters. After going to Rosaria with Torgal, we discover that Torgal collected all of Clive’s leather bracers, helmets and his sparring sword and brought them to their hideout at the Rookery. In the cutscenes, Clive then says “Well well, you never stopped looking for me, did you boy. Thank you, Torgal. For never giving up. For never forgetting.” In the ending, we see the same sequence play out. Torgal is looking out in the distance, only this time, it is in the direction of Origin and where Clive would be coming back from. Torgal isn’t giving up again. Like Joshua and Jill, he holds faith in Clive living.
Metia’s Star dimming seems to be the biggest point of contention between everyone. Because what does it going out actually mean? We’re meant to immediately jump to it meaning he dies, but there is no connection to assume that the star represents Clive’s life. If anything, Jill assumes it means it no longer grants wishes and it frightens her to think she’s lost him. We as the viewer just hop on board with her feelings about it. So the question becomes, if the star is truly magical, why did it take this long to go out? Is it a symbol that magic no longer exists in the world because Clive destroyed it? Or is it a symbol that the wish was granted and no longer has the power to do it again? Or, if we look directly at the ATL, the star is known as the messenger to the heavens. Messengers must leave in order for a message to be delivered. Was the wishing star every even really magical at all? If so, why did it take 13 years to bring them back together the first time? Maybe it never actually did. The game does have a focus on breaking the chains of fate, that Clive perseveres through human will alone and defies the plans of the gods. If this has any bearing, then Jill gasping with relief and smiling to the sunrise not only represents she knows he will return based on sidequest dialogues, but may also mean that she has faith in HIM, not just on a wishing star. This could directly connect into Joshua’s death speech where he tells Clive that everyone holds faith in him, faith is what will make him succeed and that he has faith he will survive to see Jill again. Notice also the very last lyric of the song. “My treasure, my star.” Jill calls Clive her treasure in Priceless sidequest. So adding on “my star” may imply that it is in him, not some fated star where her faith now lies.
Bonus Personal Interpretations: Torgal’s howling. While it may initially seem he is mourning, wolves often howl as a social call to help packmates find their way home. Once the sun rises, he stops. If there is light, Clive need not follow the sound of a howl to find his way back. Secondly, the torch beside where Jill and Torgal stand. Ever and always, Clive is fire made manifest, symbolically and literally. Notice that the torch beside them blazes strongly throughout the night and into the day.
So please, for the love of Yoshida and the fantastic writers of this game, please please PLEASE either edit this video or make one that corrects the oversight into believing Clive is dead when he clearly is not.
Did anybody get a FF 12 vibe?
Leviathan was mentioned by joshua that one time, i think that would be a cool super boss. Alexander also could have been fitting in this medieval setting.
you miss to emphasize that ‘magical’ moment in where the kid start the fire manually using flint. It’s the very goal of cid and clive to make a world that does not rely on magic /crystals. A world that will now start to think, invent and innovate.
Clive claims he did defiled her body. Final confrontation with Hugo.
I want Leviathan dlc
Bad ending 😢 i think jill is more painful and suffering and i think clive should be come back but no power is the best ending more than this so this game is should be 9/10 because the way clive died is not impacted but the way he died is make gamer suffer too 😢
This plot is somewhat like attack on titan lol.
About the part where the dominant can’t go prime after Clive taking some of their power in the end game talking to dion Clive explains that they go berserk the ekion no longer listen but takes over and dion was just saying his will is stronger so he can control it still which explains why the final Garuda fight it seems like Clive was taking to Garuda herself and not Benedicta also I believe CID said she lost control as well
clive is the one who cuts of benedikta’s head. he tells hugo this when he confronts him at his palace at his mother crystal
Someone spoiled the ending for me so I’m just gonna watch this and not finish the game
Clive is alive and Joshua is dead. Do the side stories.
I think clive’s alive though. Even torgal’s descendant is there they named him bahamut haha
I know many people liked this story and that’s ur prerogative don’t let me ruin it for you but I hated it so much.
It’s already bad enough that natural magic users are even able being enslaved when they’re categorically more powerful than the non-bearers but Clive’s solution is to erase his people from existence so a potential future society finds a new group to subjugate. Just incoherent.
I bet Joshua did survived / U did missing Part when after Clive kick Ultima Butt he did Consumed them godlike power and mourning Joshua but decide use some Ultima Flame Power on Joshua Body and did say “It seems Ultima’s power was too great for this vessel all along” if Ultima Power doing nothing to Joshua why he say that before use it again to remove All Magic to Ending
Dude. how the fuck did you not see Clive using Phoenix to resurrect Joshua at the end? How could you miss that? That’s how the final fantasy book was written.
Man this story is wild. I feel like they hired a Game Of Thrones writer to do most of it lol.
So this is a Satire comment but… OH MY GOD, SO MANY SPOILERS 😳 😫 WHY, WHY ARE YOU DOING THIS? ITS RUINING MY EXPERIENCE OF THE GAME. OH GOD WHY. THE SPOILERS.. ARE MAKING ME MELT.. WAH WAH lol sorry had to. Had my partner whine about me streaming this game saying SPOILERS. I asked him when he was gonna play it, he said in about a year lol I’m like OK stop whining then and don’t be on the stream 😂 not to mention, there’s other people out there telling you tubers and streamers that they’re spoiling the game for them lol 😂
Man the amount of plot points that are brought up and dropped without any elaboration are so disheartening.
The ending cut me deep. Themes like brotherhood and sacrifice for your loved ones always just messes me up. It doesn’t help I’m an older sibling so Clive’s love for Joshua is extremely relatable to me haha.
What is it with FF killing the main protagonist??
So Jill being a ward is just a nice way of saying royal hostage. She was taken to prevent further invasions from the north. Her lands fell to the blight after that. Ultima is the ultima collective which is why there are 16 of him (oh hey 16 like 16 final fantasy games harhar). That is why we see him even when Joshua “imprisons” him. Benedikta’s head was clearly delivered to Kupka by Waloed to stoke vengeance. Cid makes a quip about Waloed wanting his head in a box. Sleipnir is an Egi. This is something rarely brought up in the story. Leviathan is lost meaning that Mythos is incomplete as a vessel as he is never able to absorb it’s power. The game tries to go so big with it’s story that it starts to feel smaller and smaller. Blessings, Egi and Eikons are never explored. Devastation of Eikon battles and devastation of Mothercrystals destroyed are never properly expressed. The time jumps don’t feel warranted because they give little frame of reference for you to feel the impact. I have never been to the Capitol of Sanbreque proper and jumping to five years after it loses it’s crystal I still don’t get to go to it proper so what the hell do I care? If they had kept it to Kingdoms, Eikons and Magic man it could of been a much tighter fleshed out story of Humanity breaking its chains to magic. Thanks for the coverage.
I would like to think Harpocrates III made the Final Fantasy book at the end and attributed it to Joshua
GINGY WOOOOOP WOOOOOOOOOOOP!!!!!!!!
Perfect for me because the cutscene movie made be unbelievably bored. Had to resort to reading the plot on wikipedia. But this should be a nice visual aid!!
Must say not the best story to come out of Final Fantasy
Awesome breaking down of the story. I was kind of hoping to learn more about the backstory of Benedikta and Barnabas. Jill and her kingdom would also be nice.
Great video as always!
I’m here cause SE said ps5 only 🙁
All of those cutscenes, all of that building and then that’s how it ends? One of the worst endings I’ve ever seen in a video game, it literally left everything unresolved. 6/10 game for me, it just tried to do too much and outside of well polished animations, great voice acting, good graphics, its just not a good story at all. The builds are lacking, no armor customization and there are clearly certain builds that are far superior than others, making some builds obsolete if I’m being honest. Just a disappointment of a game.
The post credits book by “Joshua” seems to be the strongest evidence Clive survived.
Joshua states very clearly in the game that the power of the Phoenix cannot resurrect someone. So Joshua could not have survived to write the book. Then the only person that would write the book in Joshua’s name is Clive. This perfectly ties in to Clive’s promise to Harpocrates to write a book about his journey, and how the story begins and ends with Clive narrating with an author’s voice.
I’m almost done with the game so I will come back to your vid when I do. I just wanted to like the video in advance.
note on the Eikon clashes – Ultima calls them by their powers; Clive calls them by their god names. It’s a theme of how faith allows things to elevate beyond their normal measures
Bet everyone here have a Blast Playing this Brand Newest *Final Fantasy 16/XVI* game!
The whole final boss remind me Asura vs Chakravartin in Asura’s wrath.
Honestly tough his sacrifice just remove magic in the world,he being alive as the strongest will contribute to peace more. Seem his action is basilcy just tired of the conflict. . Human always fight, and equality will never exist .
Nice video by the way, but you forget the part where Clive heals and restores his brother Joshua before sacrificing himself for the world. The book is written by his brother for this simple reason. It’s a shame that most of the Final Fantasy end their protagonists so tragically, but it’s good that Valisthea is saved.
I like the fact that it is completly open who wrote the book
On one hand we have ultima + Phoenix powers may have revived Joshua but he mever moved a bit
On the other hand we have clive likely taking on the name of others he wishes to uphold their ideals + Tomes quill gift hinting onto writing a book himself but…. u ..know….stone hand and stuff.
It leaves room for ppl to talk and find their own ending in this story which I like.
In my head I want both bois to live they suffered enough in this story.
Well Dion did deserve some redemption but….well…. the only thing that can help him after the blow would be a shovel and a bucket sry Terrence.
The book at the end – Tomes stated that Joshua has been writing all that has happend in a book. So that book is prolly the Joshuas Chronicles completed and pubished by either Tomes or Jote.
I’mma say this though.. this game is a gutpunch cuz i rly wanted Jill and Clive to be together at the end. And its unfair as hell that he goes through so much pain and loss to save the world and not be rewarded with being with at least one of his loved ones.. I’m just rly sad rn after finishing the game. Dont get me wrong, i love the game and gonna play on the new dificulty but… i hope they DLC this ending or something cuz its unfair imo
Thank you bro
After just beating the gane myself, like literally as I write this comment, I do think that Joshua survived. My guess is when Clive went to fix the hole in Joshua’s chest he used a mixture of the Phoenix and Ultima’s power, which thus brought him back to life so that he could write the book. I also like how, if this is the case, Joshua is essentially the new world’s version of Moss The Chronicler.
BTW 7Rebith Delay to early next years
They but I’ll this work into 16 but couldn’t finish FF15 because it was base on two different regions
gengggahhhhh
i think this ones had neuttral ending , good ending for anyone ; bad ending for MC. still clives will die cause of sacrifices, the question why jill alive caused end of the eikon/dominants era after “reset” ? joshua case i think hes alive caused it reborn by the power of ultima and clive phoenix traits so it enchanced the ability to revive. and what is the others character storyaftermath? there is quite hollow in the ending. anyway taken from podcast of easy allies said the story maker takai already “finished” so nomore spin off and/or sequel. other staff also hinted rather starting a new, fresh title however with the same teams, which is good to me caused this one will be remembered “sacrificial MC of FF history”
What i got from Benna is that she uses Hugo & Barnabus for her own goals & beliefs, they are more of a means to her ends. Her relationship with Hugo is pretty one sided as it appears that Hugo was the one that was actually serious about the whole thing. While Cid she has true feelings for whether that is as lovers or sibling is my only question on their relationship.
I like to think instead of Clive dying, he instead got moved to FF14 or a simular world that needs/could use his abilities. 🤔😆
(It has been said there may be a cross over event between ff14 and ff16)
Game ended with whe one story ends….. so this means another begins maybe a future sequel where magic maybe comes back with another alien race finding earth again
Clive didn’t die lol. You missed some hints
is it just me but they sure make Shiva kinda weak where jill is normally needed to be saved alot.
I really think the ending was left open to interpretation so that if they choose to make a sequal or DLC, they can have a route with, or without Clive.
More than likely Clive survived, and the Final Fantasy book was either written by either Joshua himself who clive healed with Ultima’s power, or the child of Clive and Jill as its implied with the ending text, and scences through the story the possibility she waa pregnant and named there son after Joshua.
So many ways this story could go. I truly hope we get some DLC or a sequal. I mean FFX got it, we can only hope and if SMRPG can get a remake, anything is possible!
I believe there are significant hints Clive survived. Allow me to explain.
Jill’s wish to metia and the symbolism associated with it. In addition in a side quest she claims Clive returning to her is “her sunrise” and what’s the last thing we see Jill doing? Watching the sunrise.
Clive is only explicitly shown as losing his left arm, which is the same arm he used for the final spell. He shows no other injuries.
But the real smoking gun for me is the book in the epilogue. Hypocrates gifts Clive a quill and states his desire for him to write his story to which Clive agrees. We know for certain Joshua died as he did not wake up after Clive healed him. “not even the phoenix can bring someone back to life.” So how then could Joshua have written the book? Well we know Clive has a habit of taking names from those he’s lost and immortalising his brother through the book is certainly something Clive would do.
Clive also acts as the narrator at the beginning and end of the story. The book reframes this as Clive retelling the events of ff16 through his story.
Rpgs have a habit of giving golden endings based on additional content completed and most of these hints are dropped in side quests.
Ultimately clives fate is ambiguous but I believe there are far too many hints dropped to say he died for certain.
I would love to watch a video of you talking about the infamous games.
His little brother clearly lived as he saved him in the end you could see all the blood and wounds dissapear so he wrote the book and you can easily get a DLC of his brother and rest of the gang that survived.
I need when clive took cid name/title he would die. I’ve seen it in anime many times, So i knew clive would die. But you don’t see him die so i believe it is ambiguous and has two different views. 1 where you see the curse taken hold of him. Or the other where he live. i don’t know all the details but the sun rising signify that he survived. And my own theory because he took away all magic the curse should be lifted (the bearer curse) and it was only a matter of time before all the magic left clive and the curse should have gone with it. So i believe clive live. P. S. The side quests give hints and the ending song that clive live
I realized that FF16 looks more a “movie” that Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within had to be back in the day.
Thank you for bringing the truth of the ending to light.
Clive is dead, he healed Joshua’s wounds in his last moments and died on the beach.
Métia was keeping him safe, and when he died it finally went out.
Metia was a symbol of Jill’s love for Clive and how that love kept him safe. She knew that when the star was gone so was Clive. Her smile at the end (which everyone says is her seeing Clive again) is just her smiling seeing the sun. Knowing Clive won, and the world is free.
Joshua’s wounds were healed by Clive as one of his last acts of magic. Allowing Joshua to write the book later on down the line.
I hate how many people are saying Clive is alive like it’s a fact. He’s dead, the whole point of the story congregates into that moment, where he lies on the beach. Finally able to rest, knowing he did what he needed to. He saved everyone. Everyone but himself.
I do understand how people are believing Clive’s alive as some sort of cope. The ending was rough, and sad. But it’s clear the writers message was for him to be dead. And to say anything else as fact is really disrespectful to a beautiful tragic ending…..
I love clive’s death as much as I would like it if he survived. Open endings are so poetic.
Personally the ending is absolutely legendary.
I NEVER cried in a video game in 10+ years, but this time despite being a cold hearted person I couldn’t hold my tears.
Square Enix…thank you.
It is entirely possible Joshua survived after being healed by an upgraded Clive. So he could have writtin the story.
For DLC i think will follow Joshua after Clive’s sacrifice and we get to learn what happened after the final battle. Oh, and also with whats going on with Leviathan.
Or…DLC could follow an entirely new protagonist. The world after the end is entirely devoid of magic, but its not out of the realm of possibility for magic to return some day. Perhaps also related to Leviathan somehow, whom was never absorbed amd destroyed with Clive.
I’m pretty glad I didn’t play this game. For the conclusion to remove all magic from the world to solve everyone’s problems, instead of- idk- telling people to stop being fantasy bigots to people different from them seems like trying to burn down a forest because people keep getting lost in them.
I kept thinking Torgal would meet his demise, but we can all breathe a sigh of relief that he lives!
There is an eikon missing they said it’s 8 with 8 unique element and it’s only 7 unique eikons with 2 fire they need to do dlc for that
I wanna see more about leviathan
Who or what was Logos that Ultima was referring to?
When it comes to dlc I think they really should go the devil may cry way all the way and make other party members playable
This is great how did you make it so fast it’s amazing
belive clive before destroyed the crystal he ressurected joshua, its possible if think about it as he had power of ulimate god at that point!
I tried so hard not to click this video because I didn’t want spoilers but I can’t wait 6 months until I get this game. Thank you Gingy
Oh man I really enjoyed the game, so sad its over. It’s definitely not perfect tho, but the story was so good. I do have a few issues imo with the way they handled other aspects of the game, like boss design, some of the side characters and the pacing of the story, but the good parts of the game were REALLY good so it really didn’t make me enjoy it less. Hope we get a Cid DLC I miss him 🙁
From my understanding, before clive gave up his eikonic powers, he used phoenix’s powers to revive joshua, but he may not be exactly aware that it worked. Also i think jill only felt clive’s death so joshua might still be alive all along.
As for anabella, that bitch, i think she saw ultima’s shadow coming from joshua. As explained later on, as clive destroys the mother crystals, ultima clan is getting stronger and i think anabella seeing the shadow is an unexplained manifestation of ultima getting stronger, as he starts to break out from joshua.
Regarding dlcs i hope square releases a dlc about what happened to the party after clives dies. Darn it went straight to credits haha. Dlcs per dominant is also welcome. And also what happened to leviathan and how come ultima has nothing about leviathan?
i dont like how ultima gets used as a scapegoat for all of the game’s lingering questions. who delivered benedikta’s head to hugo? idk prolly ultima. How was olivier a construct of ultima if he was a actual child that annabella actually gave birth to? idk man ultima magic i guess.
it just feels like they got sloppy at the end and didn’t tie up a lot of the loose ends in a very satisfying way
and also wtf was the point of primogenesis if all ultima needed to ascend all along was for all the mothercrystals to be destroyed?
I had hoped Banabas would have shared his memories. I was quite upset that it didn’t give us any insight with the sharing of his Eikon. This latest FF game is definetely a ponder. A deep deep ponder about this plot.
Throughout the game the devs try to mislead us in one of the worst red herrings i’ve ever seen imo and that is the hooded figure..first appearing in the prologue and then at various parts .. my questions are :
1)Even when it’s revealed that the hooded man is Joshua and the existence of Ultima and how he looks why does Ultima keep appearing as the hooded man (Joshua) even doing his trademark 🔥 in hand observing Clive etc ?
2) Ultima appearing as adult Joshua in the prologue doesn’t make any sense .. did he know that Joshua will look like this in the future and don the Margrace persona ?
Unless i’m missing stuff all this is just the devs try to make us believe that Joshua would be the villain which if you ask me would be a way better and emotional fight in the end than Ultima which personally i find him the weakest main villain in a mainline entry… even when Joshua absorbed him they could have a situation in the end where he gets possessed by Ultima and Clive has to kill him to release him from the curse .. even the Phoenix vs Ifrit logo doesn’t make sense to me anymore
If there is a DLC, I’m willing to bet that it will be about Leviathan.
Recall that Joshua discussed “Leviathan the Lost” when researching Ultima and the Eikons.
Leviathan was BY FAR the most memorable and epic boss/summon from Final Fantasy 15, and is nowhere to be found in the main story of 16 besides that line from Joshua. I think that’s a good setup for a DLC expansion which explains what happened to Leviathan the Lost
Love this video! Will you make a complete FF series retrospective?
Elwin and Annabella were cousins? 😅 Damn…
I’m so tired of people saying “You don’t have to play the other Final Fantasy games to play this one 🥴” Gaahh Daaamn I’m sure people get it by now!!
The ending was anti-climatic tbh.😅
I wish there was a chance to play as Jill in some quests and especially in that fight against Barnabas. It would’ve been more fun since a party is just an npc decoration for this game.
Torgal should’ve also been with Clive in the final battle against Ultima. The Fenrir transformation was heavily underused.
There are certainly parts of the story that need to be filled out. Not sure if a DLC can address all of it. (Or if they’ll even do one. At most it might only be an episodic mission with a crazy boss fight)
FFXVI is a good game that deserves its praise but it’s still not on the same level as its legendary predecessors.
gingy do you sleep?
the story is basically the better or what they want to do with FFXIII back then, about hum an finally free from the god, start new,but this one is more proper and more depth to it
LOVED THE VID please please please please DO PLAQUE TAAALE
I’m tired of their queer or fem male villains but I’m also addicted to stories about coming into your power so 🤷🏾♂️
Would it kill them to finally have a happy non-open ending? Especially in the game where that was teased heavily and we have the most solid couple so far?
i love the story of this game and the characters. My only knock is it might too much inspiration from Game of Thrones as there are points where it felt like a blatant rip off. I mean the game literally has whitewalkers among other things. Otherwise the story is probably the best since the release of the playstation 1
@Gingy FInal Fantasy VII got Additional Content Rebirth and Crisis Core
Ultima seems like a more realistic version of the Christian Bible. A god creating humans just to be his slaves, and hated them when they got freewill.
Or Jill had sons…
lost leviathan dlc xiv crossover?
Gingy you are the man
But see that’s the issue with the people in this game… they keep considering Clive to be the 2nd dominant of Fire…. when in reality he is the only dominant of Fire.. and because of that it holds true that there is only one dominant per each Eikon…. remember they were unaware as to how many there were as nobody really knew of or spoke of Fenrir…. which ones up being the one that Torgal is the dominant of… Joshua is the dominant of the Phoenix which has always been a summon of Life Death and rebirth though it does have fire properties as dying and rebirthing in the Flames blah blah blah… it is actually an Eikon of HOLY…. but seeing the fact that nobody had seen the TRUE Fire Eikon ( Summon or whatever you want to call it which has ALWAYS been Ifrit) they assumed that Joshua’s Phoenix was the Eikon of fire…
And most of their knowledge in the game is actually unfounded as you find out later that both torgal and Jill are both essentially dominance of an ice element…..
If a DLC ever comes, i want it to be a dominant of Leviathan, it doesn’t make sense but i could see it working. He/she could be like a forgotten dominant and the story could take place somewhere outside Valisthea, since Barnabas came from another land.
Hi Gingy! Just wanted to say, I really enjoy your videos and did anyone ever tell you have a nice storytelling/commentating voice? Keep up the amazing work!!!
Holy shittt, 2 vid in 1 week??????
Solid story. 8/10
Minecraft retrospective, i have no idea how but yeah
You mention Ultima “Watching Over” Clive a few times. You can replace “Watching Over” with “Fucking With” and not change the accuracy at all.
Great Video, Honestly The ending sorta reminds me of LOTR ending.
There was that moment where Clive used the Pheonix powers to heal Joshua (at least thats what it looked like) and Evidently the post credits scene is a Timeskip and The Book was written by Joshua Rosfield.
Im Taking a Gander that Joshua was healed by clive, Survived and Wrote the book about the Crystals and His brother and the Stuff that happened as a History piece but as time Went On and On fact became Fiction so to speak, After so long without Magic people started to belive it was fairy tales and Joshuhas book Became Fiction despite it being real, Still serves its purpose tho of telling the story of the past.
I compare it to LOTR cause Frodo writes the Lord of The Rings book at the end and Sam ends up finishing it, If i remember right in some Epilogue stuff in books Way into the future through aragorns reign as king no one sees magical things or Orcs/goblins anymore and they start being viewed as Fiction as well.
I think they are similar.
I love your video essays could you please do something big like destiny 1 or 2? The lore in those games have always been my favorite but I understand how hard it is to understand the lore from a starting position 15 years ago and it’s still running now but it would be really cool
Great video as always, keep up the good work and take care
My guess is the red star Metia that goes out tells me that Jill prayers were answered or that metia was protecting him up to that point where he died. I like the former better though.
Great vid! I just want an ending where Clive and Jill end up happily together…
Much love Gingy
Now that you explained the story i must play the game ❤
So lorewise, is Clive the 2nd strongest protagonist after Lightning and WoL (FF14)?
im not sure about Clive dying. + we are missing 1 eikon Levaiathan which could be DLC
Amazing video Gingy.
I’m still a bit confused about why Ultima needed to have the mothercrystals destroyed, as the crystals are what is siphoning the ether from Valesthia’s underground to the chamber inside Origin. Unless he needed the crystals destroyed to free the souls of his brethren who became the crystals in the first place to be able to join with them.
Also, I may have gotten this wrong, but The Blight is said to be something that is following Ultima’s kind from their previous world. Or maybe The Blight following them is just a product of them being over-reliant on magick and now that Ultima is using it to revive his people is what is really causing it.
Be well Gingy!
No sense, he Is alive…. How can be death? For left hand Stone? no blood, no injuries or anything like that, also I think he’s the narrator before the end , he’s narrating the book, he probably also confirms that he took his brother’s name. Other thing…. if jill lost the love of her life, would she stop crying after 10 seconds? and then breathe a sigh of relief with a little smile?
but if they confirmed his death, it would probably be the worst of all time, nonsense
I didnt get the last part where you said “someone else wrote the book” why do you think someone else did and used Joshuas name? I mean if the end scene with the 2 kids is supposed to be far into the future because they were talking about magic/Eikons as if it is a myth then the book most probably was written by Joshua. I mean he couldve just written it after Clive died and lets say 500 or 1000 (end scene with kids) years later people are just reading Joshuas story
I think there’s a scene near the end where Clive use his powers to revive/heal Joshua, so presumably he survived.
Anyone. Else not buying a ps5 to play this
Even though I cried my eyes out at the ending, I don’t think that Clive is dead anymore after reading some posts. I think that the ending is set up in a way where if you miss out on some side quests you’re going to automatically assume he dies, whereas you do certain quests which point to the fact that he survives like Jill and Torgal looking at the dawn or in the main story where Jill wishes upon Metia for Clive to be safe and return which comes true and that’s why Metia loses it’s light. That said, yes I was the one that skipped a lot of the side quests and interpreted it as him dying. However the possibility for Joshua dying is almost undeniable, Clive did try to save him but was it really enough to bring him back to life or did it just mend his wounds, also the book at the end could be written by Clive or Gav.
This Final Fantasy entry is similar to Tales of Arise in terms of romance and themes.
Jill and Clive are like Shion and Alphen. Alphen and Clive were soldiers turned slaves turned heroes of their world.
And the theme of fighting oppression is also similar. Maybe that’s why I like this Final Fantasy despite it deviating from the norms of previous entries.
I’ve heard fans say this game is more DMC than Final Fantasy in terms of gameplay but the story seems similar to other entries. Fighting gods to obtain freedom through the power of friendship.
I know that’s an oversimplification but the story seems similar enough, just darker with more mature imagery like sex and gore.
I was just going back to your channel to continue with the mgs video and there you were with yet another video, man is really shooting out great content left right n center
Yeah as I understood it was barnabus that delivered the box o Garuda parts to Hugo
How did joshua survive and know where clive was?
I was waiting for this video, thank you. What an a mazing video maaan, by the time it launch on PC i will forget what i watched 😀
Hi Gingy, I love your videos, sometimes I just wish you would speak a little slower ✌🏻
Joshua could be alive since there’s a scene of Clive healing the wound on Joshua chest after defeating Ultima.
Things left unanswered that a dlc could help with
1. The other fallen mother crystals prior to drakes head was it cid or ultima forcing them to go out
2.barnabas and the land he’s from all we know is he’s from some land south of ash (cool detail barnabas is the first disciple of Jesus and the most devout to ultima in 16)
3. Leviathan what and where is leviathan and why is it lost? Did it drink aether from the mothercrystal near kanver or ?
4. The fallen, from what we know they are almost godlike ancient beings and ultima in many games is an inter dimensional identity, and I’m wondering if it’s the same ultima from tactics and 12. Are they connected?
5. The final form of ultima is griever the most powerful GF from ff7 is there a connection there was a lot of ff8 references from the balcony scene to some little details in the world
Clive is best character ever.
Thank you for this video. I beat the game, but was still confused in some parts but your video help me understand more, so thank you again.
I wonder how leviathan got lost, does it mean his dominant got insane and went into the ocean ? or something happening made it so no dominant could awaken it ? His loss didn’t seems to impact Ultima’plan in the end ?
Does Terence and the healer girl died during Origin’s event ?
Love how much Gingys been posting recently
I’m getting bravely default series vibes from this story.
what i understood from the ending that Joshua who wrote the book is Clive and Jill Son, let me explain :
there is a quest that you talk to Jill and she say in a scene “no matter how dark the night dawn will always come and that you always come for me…”
why the writers choose Clive to narrate the game in the start and in the end and why the last scene is Jill crying at night then stop and smiling at dawn and then Clive say “thus our journey end”…
also they repeat the same point in 3 romantic scenes between Clive and Jill that they will come back to each other…
and last thing why make Clive confess to Jill at the end i pretty sure there will be DLC about Clive and Jill maybe Happy ending…
what a great video for my sunday afternoon. Love your content really hope to see a series over Ratchet and Clank one day as another major playstation mascot maybe even Assassin’s Creed.
Goddamn that was fast
Honestly not expecting another video so quickly, much appreciated though
DLC focusing on the other Dominants would be great. I would love to play as Barnabas in his trek to become King of Waloed before he became thrall to Ultima.
I have been waiting for this since the release of the game, i know i wouldn’t be able to play it any time soon ( Because i don’t have a PS 5 yet ) so was just waiting for this. You’re one of the best youtuber story tellers😅
Thanks for making those videos, makes work go faster.❤❤
So glad I subbed.
Seems like a very cool story. I look forward to playing it on PC 😁
HOW TF?!
You uploaded this like 10 minutes after i beat the game!
This game bout to make me buy a ps5
Thank you for making this video I really appreciate all the hard work that went into making this video, I am so happy and glad to be able to watch it. Ngl I am kinda surprised to see a new video but it made me happy with joy so truly thank you. Hope you have an amazing beautiful peaceful wonderful day
Didn’t this game just come out? 🤔
Gingy makes not only some of YouTubes top quality retrospectivestory analysis videos, he also seems to be capable of making the most at the fastest pace, with no seemingly tangible tradeoff in the quality of depth of analysis.
Gingy is truly just built different. Makes me want to give the dude my money.
i don’t think clive dies though, the focus on the moon, Metia and jills smile at the rising dawn along with her prior dialogue at the flower fields points to him being alive, jill’s wish at the start of the game basically worked, add to that the fact he literally narrated the start and end of the game, i doubt he would be dead if he narrated the story, also those children at the end look like possibly his and jill descendants, with the book “final fantasy” being a call back to the end of heavensward so the story is real
Damn Gingy ily mane
I am down to see a continuation of FF16, like a DLC which takes place in the modern day where a possible descendant of Joshua who is not only a skeptic, but also has the book wants see if the contents written within are true and are not just that of a fantasy, from exploring the ancient ruins of the locations that main game to even discovering (in this hypothetical DLC rediscovering) of a forgotten yet ancient Icon that is powered not with magic but by a concept such as Time.
Wait how come Josh’s mom killed herself after discovering he was alive?
I feel like we might get a Cid dlc, since Cid felt more then a side character that knew so much. plus I think it would be crazy to see how he left his kingdom and discovering they the mother crystal are the reason that is killing the land.
The game was a near masterpiece.
Bro got the video out very quick 😭 ty
They should stop killing the main character. Been doing this since x
Dude YES! ❤ I will come back to this after I finished the game, can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it
Would be cool to see you touch most of the final fantasy games
Yuo*
Very excited for this one, much appreciated Gingy!
Somehow you make me wonder if you actually took some rest after the MGS video, but then again I think you did. Keep up the good work man
Hi Gingy! love the content. I just got my PS5 & FFXVI so i’ll revisit when i finish. Keep up the great work! Love your vids, your metal gear vid helped me get through multiple lunch breaks this past week.
The king has posted. I honestly have no idea how you have the speed to post videos so fast.
Even with having it early you’re still so damn fast
Me liking and commenting for the algorithm and leaving because I’m waiting for the pc version and I’m an FF fan so trying to avoid all spoilers.
THE MGS SERIES RETROSPECTIVE WAS 4 DAYS AGO
HOW
daaaaaamn how are you getting videos out that early man
this was just what i needed to listen to while working on my own work XD
love your work!!
Yes thank you. After MGS Video this one. Love this game.
Dang man, you move quick 😂
Hi Gingy. Just so you know you’re amazing. Keep up the good work.
Red Dead Redemption series next?
