Also, I defy your closing advice, about what to pick up and what to not pick up. I begin picking up every resource I can find, from the very beginning of the game. And as I play through the progression, I upgrade everything related to carrying capacity (Weightlifting and Payloads especially).

I add cargo containers, additional landing gears, and engines as needed.

The result is:

If I need a suppressor for a new gun, I got that.
If I need a storage container for an outpost on a moon, I got that.

Nickel, plutonium, cobalt, adhesive, sealant, alien genetic material, drilling rig, whatever…

You name it, I got it.

Actually, you’re wrong here, sort of; I used the simulator to farm the “destroy enemy ships” objective for the Piloting upgrade. Even just doing the first 3 levels of the simulator, you can rack up several kills towards the objective. I know because I just farmed it for that Piloting upgrade yesterday.

The absolute first thing to do on starfield? Uninstall and play something else

Simulator: You do get xp for each kill – just not much 10-ish.
Got Security? In Neon, on the roof of Frankie’s is a locked vent shaft. Go down and you are in the syndicate. As long as you stay below the third floor and out of bedrooms/apartment areas, you can go all the way to the back without getting harassed and collect the chest on the second floor’s back room. Hot sword on the bench below, and if you hide until they are not looking, you can get a killer melee weapon. Sell and immediately rebuy at trade authority to remove the stolen tag.

build outpost fast no better way to make easy exp points do it with a AMP farm you will also have more cash than you can spend and not need a ship that’s all cargo shace to move it around

Go down to the bar in “The Well” at New Atlantis. Behind the bar is Jake’s Hangover Cure. Steal it. Drop it and then go back to where you dropped it. Most powerful weapon you can find that early in the game.

As soon as you have 3 skill points go and spend the time getting your C class pilots license. Many times have I boarded a great ship only to find out I can’t pilot it. Usually after you’re in space. That’s a huge bummer because you have to reload your last save. Save before entering any ship you plan to takeover.

I will always want to go in guns blazing. Regardless.

Always pick up weapons then drop them if you don’t need them. Every weapon comes with ammo and you keep that when you drop the weapon.

Definitely gather ammo it has made me the most money and also steal ships whenever possible.

Tip #1 or rather RULE #1 assuming u play on PC (Sorry Xbox) thats to install an Inventory UI mod before u even think of starting the game i recommend StarUI. The base games inventory screen is so bad that in any other game it never would have made it past the early stage of Beta testing. U have several 100´s of different items in this game and the base inventory ui dosent even have preset categorys to sort by.

#1 uninstall and buy Cyberpunk

Pick up all guns even if you are going to drop them, you get the ammunition that was in them when you pick it up

Half the people complaining haven’t even unlocked there powers in the game which is when things start to get interesting it’s a big universe there are moments where it all slows down but there’s ton of lore and great stories in action to keep u coming back not meant to be rushed through at all

Get the cargo ship and pick up all loot you can find. Load in ship all of it. Get the ship cargo skill to max asap. Then all your ships will have decent cargo.

The GalBank bounty missions, I only got to do the first one. The second one bugged: it sent me to a completely different system from what the mission said, and the ship was already destroyed. There was no way to complete it and I can’t even drop the quest to pick it up again, so I’m just locked out of that questline entirely.

Love this game!! Worth $100 dollars

I am 40 hours in and totally struggling to understand and enjoy this game. Many times the set destination button is disabled. So I am in space or on a planet and can’t go anywhere. I have to go to missions and “show on map” which is the only way to get the star map up so I can travel anywhere. Also many times I can’t expand a system to see the planets. So I have to travel to the system & then travel again to go to the right planet. The UI & inventory is just so inconsustent & time consuming. I have been collecting resources so the ship fillled up very quickly so now I have to store stuff in the lodge. But who knows how I am going to get those resources to an outpost when I start building. I currently have 33 types of ammo and I have to carry multiple weapons when one ammo type runs out – which is does on a regular basis. I also have to carry different boost pack types,. So you have very reduced carry capacity – meaning lots of wasted time giving stuff to your companion. The weapons & suits are hard to understand and comapre. I don’t even know what I am being shot with so really don’t know which type of damage protection is the most important. there are so many random weapon drops with slightly different numbers you can spend forever trying to work out if something is better than your current weapon. Especially as there are so many random mods attached to suits & weapons. I also don’t understand which weapon damage type is the best to use against each type of enemy…. I don’t understand scanning when on a planet. Sometimes the % goes up by itself when in scan mode. Othertimes I seem to have to press A on the conrtoller to get the % up. But then other times I can’t get the % to go up at all what ever I try and do. I can’;t see any message to say you are too far away, so you get closer and close until you are bumping into the alien animal trying to get that % to go up.

Be sure to only sell survey data to Vladimir on The Eye; he pays double.

Use the scanner all the time!!! Especially when looting buildings. The scanner highlights anything remotely loot able so you might stuff you miss that’s hidden away under something or I’m a box. Its great for credit sticks, digipicks, and lots of other small things or containers you might miss

Invest in the strength and hacking skills early, one will help you carry more and the other allows you to get into higher locked places sooner.

If you have resources in your inventory and are in close proximity to your ship, open the ship screen from your menu and press X to enter cargo. Then tap LB to go your inventory, scroll to resources and press A, there should be a prompt to ‘store all resources’ with RB do so and all your resources are moved to your ship.

You can also move anything else to your ship from this screen, provided it has cargo.

Every ship you enter has a captains locker in the cockpit, sometimes on enemy ships you’ll get some good loot but it is also another place to put things you would otherwise not want to carry on your person from your inventory on your own ship.

If you choose the adoring fan perk, he will follow you around and you can even have him aboard your ship, he has increased strength which means he’s a walking inventory, trade anything you don’t need with him to store it for later.

If you are feeling a little bit dangerous and have contraband you cant hide from the authorities, go to the wolf system just above Alpha Centauri and enter the Den, you wont be scanned and you can sell all contraband to the trade authority there.

Disagree plan building star collection of iron and aluminum just put them in ship . Wish i did this takes forever get a good base going if you don’t early

If you choose diplomat perk I recommend picking up everything in sight and you can boost commerce super quickly. Just remember to level up in between each time you choose the perk so you can sell off the rest of your misc items to reach the next goal. Comes in super handy early game along with the persuasion perk as well considering how many speech checks there are in game. The rest you’ll raise naturally through game play.

The other big plus to using the UC flight simulator is for leveling up your Piloting skill. It requires enemy ship kills, and the simulator kills totally count!! No risk, all reward 🎉

You can ‘gain’ extra quick access slot to use for weapons by unequipping the cutter. You can still easily access it by activating scanner (LB) then just use RT to mine.

the 2 first things need to max out on skill tree is weight lighting perk and fitness perk as it takes the longest to do
