Amazing and informative Video Sir. I enjoy this game. Put it down in 2024 hoping for some improvements. I greatly appreciate your time. Ty, All the best.
Elder Scrolls and Fallout had decades of writing behind them. Tons of lore and massive amounts of worldbuilding. The majority of which was written by far more interested and talented people than are currently employed at bethesda.
Starfield had nothing to go off but itself, written in large part by amateurs or seemingly disinterested individuals. There was no depth of story supporting it for the majority. Everything felt half done, lazily implemented… or straight-up copied again and again within its own overall story.
The Loot was bland and entirely RNG, most of the POIs were exact duplicates of one another… and the facade of illusion of choice was so thinly veiled I doubt a child would be fooled by it.
If they added an alien planet with lots of places to explore the game would be better, Halo covenant type aliens
Bethesda was destroyed by Microsoft Purchasing them.
300 hours?? Thats amateur numbers, ya gotta bump those numbers up my guy.
When the pirates in shattered space were hostile, I immediately thought that they weren’t part of the Crimson Fleet. I thought they were just random independent pirates, sort of like spacers.
Even oblivion had shop keepers or home owners watch you so you can’t steal. They just be taking things out and bringing it back in the future games like it’s new.
💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯💯
My major problem with this game is that it’s designed to be played indefinitely, with NG+ yet nothing ever changes with each play through.
It was implied by Bethesda that Starfield would be supported with content for the next 10 years or so, it’s been 2 years already and they added a rover and some creation content…
I really wish they stuck to their limitations and made a few planets that were DLC sized and handcrafted. Could you imagine having the creative freedom to make, let’s say 10 large areas the size of Far Harbor set on different planets with an interesting story, biome, creatures, weapons etc. The Outer Worlds came pretty close to this, Mass Effect perfected it.
I don’t want limitless exploration, I want meaningful exploration, something that values my time. I don’t want to walk to the end of a dungeon and say “oh there’s nothing here”, I want to find something with context relating to anything that makes spending my time exploring worthwhile. That’s what exploration is all about and Starfield doesn’t have anything like that.
I personally dont buy that the vehicles were never planned when they made the base game. there are too many long distance travel sequences that are not broken up with terrain that would make vehicle travel harsh but boost pack travel fun (which I would expect if that were the case).
its the same company not the same ppl
Truly branching storylines aren’t present in the game because the truth is the RPG elements are about as shallow as the exploration
People saying it should be one system, are just as wrong as Bethesda deciding on 1000 planets.
The game would have felt like it didn’t need to be a space game and would have been pointless.
Instead it should have been 5-10 planets with a heavy focus and a lot of hand crafted content, spread across an equal amount of systems, with random gen planets mostly dead as they are now, with a few hand crafted outposts, this would give the game the illusion of scale, and satisfy the space aspect of the game, while having a lot more good content on main mission locations.
I’m gonna be real… I think Bethesda lost their spark. The core conceit of Starfield doesn’t even make sense from a narrative standpoint. They do not address why the starborn are eternally fighting over the right to bring the artifacts to the unity. There’s no mention of any driving motive for any of these people to continually reset the universe. The writing absolutely KILLS this game for me. I am very VERY worried about TES 6.
this game as a whole is very underwhelming. the most disappointing was the Temples i was pretty excited when i saw it i thought “oh what weird alien boss am i gonna see?” i thought there would possibly be a boss like Astel here, some weird looking star creature but no your goal is right at the entrance. i literally said “thats it?” and stopped going to them after a little bit
there is no way that this is the space exploration game todd always wanted, and this makes me scared for ES6
Clownfield is a failure by design, already was on paper! There is no fixing this game. Only a new game makes sense. Which i hope won’t ever exist!! For the sake and sanity of us all….
They should have put the focuse between one or five Star Systems max, with a limited amount of planets. To get a higher quality out of the locations and the overall gameplay.
And since this game is about moving to new Realities, this is where the replayability should come from!!
You cannot have the same dinosaur skull at the bottom of the same identical looking Mine on 15 different random plantes!
You can only have this on one planet, in one reality. Jump to another Universe and then it can repeat, maybe even a different planet or moon.
This is how Clownfield should have been designed! And this is also the reason why it can’t be fixed.
The focus should have been to travel between Universes back and forth. Thats how you get your 1000+ “Planets” with varieties. But as i said, in much higher quality.
Not to mention the mission knowledge you now have, if you already did that mission. Or surprise, a handful of missions have a completely different outcome or solution to the problem, because its another Reality. Switch out characters, have the Pirate Boss be the Chief of Police instead, or what ever. Because his life was differently this time.
All this would take Less work to design and program. And at the same time, would boost immersion big time!
Instead the game is ultra trash and not even worth Pirating. And i know what im talking about, because i didn’t pay a dime for this 💩and still got scammed by it!
At least the paid mod shop works flawlessly without any bugs. And people keep paying actual money for game patches, where Bugthesda always get their share for not doing anything! Clownfield is a Scam by Design!!
Everytime you go through a relic temple power ring, you should get +1 space mana added to your total pool. This should persist through NG+.
If you like this idea, copy paste it on every starfield video and channel.
NO ONE CARES ABOUT SHITFIELD
MADWORLD (2009)/ Nintendo Wii
6:45 you can play as whatever you want in starfield. Unlike fallout 4 your companions never get mad enough to actually leave you. I spent the entire game playing a ruthless mercenary. Id have debates with constellation members but none of them ever got angry enough to leave. At most I had Sarah questioning if it was wise making me a member which i found funny. The way I see it if you are a goody two-shoes you are praised, but if you aren’t then you are kinda the black sheep of the family they love you, but they often find themselves being like here we go again. And a bonus is the fact that building a relationship with andreja as a evil character feels more natural
Which in my opinion is great roleplay
I vaguely remember that a dev said that when they were developing the game, the galaxy was initially going to be a lot smaller and Todd Howard dropped “there are going to be 100 star systems and more than 1,000 planets for you to explore” randomly to the public and no one on the dev team was told this is what was going to happen; not a single person thought that was the original plan for the game, Todd had pulled it out of his ass and then the Dev team had to work to fulfill that “promise” he randomly made. So they were scrambling to make star systems and the planets which is partly why there are so many empty planets no one visits.
August 27, No Mans Sky released an update that added buildable amd fully customizable (including furniture and decor) Corvette class ships that you can get up and walk around inside of while its flying on autopilot, and your friends can ride along too. You van cook a d craft and refine in there…. while traveleing to the next place. You can open the door in space and go outside to do spacewalks, or skydive down to the planet from orbit. You dont have to land to go planetside, it will hover while you go down to do whatever it is you want, or land at your command.
You can take off into space and fly to another planet, freighter space station… whatever… and land.
You are in control the whole time and there are no loading screens.
That one thing Starfield had… NMS now does better. 😂
They also added a major graphical overhaul. It looks amazing.
And its hardly an opinion that No Man’s Sky ProGen planets are far far far more interesting with more on them to see and do than Starfield’s.
Maybe if the story wasn’t trash people would have liked Starfield… but if you aren’t playing for the story mode… why you playinģ Starfield at all? NMS has done everything better… and a lot of it they did first.
Well, you can’t over-fill your inventory with useless crap like staplers and empy cups in NMS, so Starfield has that going for it.
Bad story and useless crap.
Bethesda. 😂
I quit playing because I got bugged out of a few missions. I could not complete. I did over 60 hrs my second game. First game was destroyed due to a bug. Everytime I loaded in it crashed. Sucked. And I did probably 50 or so hours. Maybe I’ll try it again. 🤷🏻♂️
“close to greatness” you’re smoking crack, there’s literally nothing here
Ultimately, this just isn’t Bethesda’s genre. They can create any world that doesn’t have mass transit. Once the setting has cars, it becomes too big for Bethesda’s game design to create. Hence Starfield is just too big for Bethesda.
It’s simple… Each ASPECT of the game (except exploration and character writing) is good in a vacuum. But together? It’s janky boring trash. Wide as a continent, but only 2-3mm deep. Seems more like a tech demo… pre alpha Star citizen-esqe
Thanks for not just shouting negativity. I don’t think people realize that just blindly hating the game won’t help Bethesda get better.
2:20 . This is objectively not true. Every lifepath in cyberpunk has numerous moments during various gigs, side quests and main quests at which they open up a new solution to the situation. A nomad can talk the other nomads down from attacking Garry or get info out of a fellow brother to find Anna Hamil. A corpo can infiltrate the arasaka compound by pretending to be internal affairs and they can enter a casino of a gang affiliated with their ex company. A street kid can gain access to a penthouse by pretending to be a hooker or make gangers stand down by referencing the current gang situation in that district. And these are six examples among many others.
Cara faz legendas em pt Br, para nós Br, faz muita falta, inclusive o seu cana l é muito foda
It’s not a franchise. There won’t be Starfield 2. They will release one more DLC and then it will be little paid mods here and there to keep the Creations mod shop alive.
I’ve installed couple of hundred mods and the modding scene might keep the core fanboys interested (call it cope if you wan’t). And I’m not talking about the trash Creations, but the free mods from Nexus.
And the problem with paid mod has never been about giving money to the mod creators. That has been possible since forever through donations. It’s about Bethesda taking their cut from the mod makers’ work masquerading it as some grand paywalled “Creations” service.
Well… thank you for convincing me to go back to skyrim instead of buying starfield unless it’s very very much on sale :V What a shame. I was really hoping time would have made Starfield better since I prefer sci-fi settings over fantasy most of the time. 😐
I so wanted to love this game but I couldn’t
The fact that Bethesda refused to entertain the concept of Reactivity to Player Choice in a game where the endgame loop is literally replaying the game is so mindboggling stupid, I can’t even imagine how they justified it.
An ocean wide but one inch deep
The game was so boring. Combat is still stuck in 2001, exploration which is their bread and butter was a chore of load screens and menus, immersion is broken constantly with needless stupid features like needing to go into the menus constantly, stealing ships but it cost more to register than you would make, character limitations, you couldn’t roleplay, no interesting content because it’s copy and paste but also just the canon, no aliens, all the wars are over, nothing that’s catching your attention. This game feels like a corporate game, bare minimum in every area and horribly inefficient. They could have done so much with the concept but went for the laziest and safest bets. It’s a worse fallout 4 in space because how did they make settlement building worse 😂
I find seeing open food on a planet without a liable atmosphere or sleeping bags breaks the immersion. An orange outside on mercury would be a burnt crisp.
Starfield is terrible, no amount of patches or DLC will fix it. Completing the game was a chore, the “RPG” elements are nothing but meaningless skill trees since choice doesn’t really matter, and the “gigantic scope” is nothing more than a fallacy when you consider that with the exception of a handful of handcrafted locations that are story related, every other location is just the same thing, with the same npcs, same floorplan, same everything.
300 hours… God get taste in games
Playing Skyrim music over Starfield says everything it needs to.
If you break down every feature they lifted from previous games, they miraculously managed to made them worse. Every, single one of them. Its almost impressive.
Make your own fun! How grand an idea.
I pirated this game, and I feel like I lost money somehow. 😂 Trash game for idiots!
Every time I see a Starfield video, I want to play…
No Man’s Sky.
Hideous AI voiceover
28:32 Oh my goodness
If Bethesda wants a good starfield they have to get back and redo the whole writing and redo all the missions in a sense it is understandable, and where choice matters. And as long as God Howard or Emil can’t write are with Bethesda it’s better they do not try it. Emil can’t write story plots, he thinks the players rather build shacks then go true a good story. That was his defense against good arguments why the games were weak story based. Art department well they did a great job if there was even a art department because of the rumors it was AI build, and not handmade. But the crimson fleet after you decide to stay with the pirates the story ends, After you take down the first and Ron Hope and you become a ranger The story ends After you discovered the UC betrayed there citizens and stowed there Admiral and you let them execute the Admiral the story end. They bring story’s at there peak and end them. And that where they should start off in the first place. What we all miss is Aliens like in startrek were we have Klingon’s and Romulus and Ferengi and other aliens. Starfield is only human and that’s boring as hell. Yeah strange Animals but those are not really Aliens now is there. So I really hope if they bring a new DLC it will be big and chuck full of good content and not written by Emil.
Why are people still reviewing this game as if it’s going to change
I really tried to find the fun in Starfield. Just couldn’t.
My experience with starfield was the horrific PC port that wasn’t optimized, and then trying again on Xbox, which had more ideal performance, but I barely got that far into the game before losing interest all together
Why the hell does a review for a game that came out in 2023 need to be 50 minutes long. Who the hell watching all of that
Great video, very accurate review. Nothing could have prepared me for how trash Starfield would end up to be 😢 Bad characters, bad writing, bad character artistic direction, bad immersion, bad space exploration, bad on foot exploration, bad story. I feel like the only people who can enjoy it are people with limited or non existent video game experience and expectations. Or people who dont mind playing basic to mediocre to boring to badly developped games. Im very concerned about the future of Bethesda for Fallout and Elder Scrolls. Playing Starfield after good games like The Witcher 3, Cyberpunk 2077, Mass Effect 1-2, Dragon Age Origins, GTAs and Red Dead 2 feels insulting. 💔
One of the worst games I ever played.
Slopfield: Sharted Aids
I always found it weird how a super high tech sci fi civilization does not have cctv technology to catch you sneaking around their super secret facilities.
11 minutes in and you are wrong about Ryujin. You can on multiple occasions use speech checks and hacking as alternatives for completing quests. It’s like the thieves guild faction, so why wouldn’t it try to push stealth onto you? Skyrim is way linear, but being linear doesn’t make Skyrim bad. I think you don’t like Starfield for other reasons like the setting and are making excuses to justify why you hate the game.
I wanted to be a pirate – and every raid saw me need to pay a fee greater than the money I pillaged? What?!
Hey! Starfield is not a bad game. I enjoyed it.
Starfield proved that bethesda higher ups don’t know when they’re in over their head.
This is not a defense of the shallowness of the game world/lore/story, but outpost building and resource grinding do add depth to exploration. My first and only playthrough was at launch and it was 1600hrs (Lvl180), due mostly to outpost and shipbuilding, and the bugs therein. I recently tried to revisit the game, and I just couldn’t do it. Despite adding over 100 mods from Nexus and creations, it’s just too buggy. In the end, with all the trouble shooting, crashes & the load screen game loop, I felt like I was building a game, not playing one. Watching this video just reminds me how bad the rest of it is. 6/10 at the core can’t be fixed with mods.
My main gripe with the game is that there are way too many incidents that broke my suspension of disbelief (what you are told does not match with your experience). Humanity was forced to leave Earth, but all they managed to build was a handful of cities that seem to house a few hundred people tops and in case of Akila, look more primitive than what we have on Earth today. I’m supposed to explore a vast universe, but everywhere I land I’m surrounded by human made structures. On artifact planets, you can find ruins with floating bits in the air, as well as science labs, pharmaceutical facilities and robot factories. But none of the people setting those up or working there ever bothered to explore said ruins or at least report on them. Worst of all: I can murder everyone at SysDef, hand over a huge fortune to the Crimson Fleet, and still be made CITIZEN OF THE UC! When she makes me a citizen, the president even mentions that there are rumours that I was involved in a massacre, but then hands me the key to my appartement anyways. Utterly ridiculous…
Game is garbage, point blank period. I put 300 hours in trying to love this game. Those are 300 hours I’ll never get back, instead 300 hours of my life were wasted with this piece of shit.
I admit it’s been a while since I’ve loaded into loading screen simulator.
Mods are keeping the Starfield game alive. Except mods can only do so much to help the hot huggy mess of a boring game which Bugthesda launched.
The whole thing was a cash grab. Release a half-assed game with a AAA Rating and watch the cash flow into the coffers. They got their money. Now they don’t care!
After the disaster of Fallout 76, and then the “we do not care if you enjoy the game or not” attitude Bugthesda has shown with Starfield? I am genuinely worried about what all this will mean for Elder Scrolls VI. One thing we can all expect, micro transactions after micro transactions… Ad Nauseam!
this game sucks ass
bros blood is SATURATED with copium thinking this game is ever getting a sequel, let alone a DLC lol
Thank you for posting this 2 years late. I’m always in the mood to laugh at the crybabies in the gaming community. Not you, those in the comments bemoaning the game because you gave them permission to do so with this title. Keep baiting the neckbeards😅
The existence of interplanetary cell phones and fedex would eliminate a solid chunk of the side and main missions.
5:35 bethesda could totally make other questlines work, they’d just need failsafes actually written and designed into the quests, or even quest fails! 😮 Think Yes Man from New Vegas. Moira Brown from Megaton, an example you used, is also one of those failsafes.
So basically it was realistic by showing a company go on after the CEO dies…like real life….
Stanfield failed because of DEI, they let incompetent blue haired people in the company do the decision. If they stick to original formula then it should be good.
12:28 Really??? Xenomorphs evolving from heatleeches being unknown makes no sense, a certain someone sitting in jail orchestrating shit doesn’t make sense, Hope basically wasting a philosophers stone doesn’t make sense, etc
The other faction quests are just as bad as Ryujins.
That gang mission was a let down. Complete three missions, the gang becomes cops, the end.
23:18 I think this “in the smallest of moments” is the problem. If you make a montage for the execs of a bunch of cool 10-second clips, Starfield probably looks amazing. The problem is all the 5-minutes of nothing (plus 2 minutes of loading screens) between them, or as you said the fact that after you’ve seen the montage there’s nothing new on 99.97% of the planets.
0:28 TBH, I don’t think it’s “frustratingly close”. I can’t point to a single game that’s made *even one* interesting full-scale planet. As long as the game has 1000 planets, it’s going to feel bad.
1 Corinthians 15:1-4 “that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, and that He was buried, and that He rose again the third day according to the Scriptures.” Your next breath isn’t guaranteed, and if you die in your sins without having repented you will suffer the Wrath of God for eternity in a very real place called Hell. Jesus, the Son of God who lived the sinless life you and I couldn’t live Paid your sin debt and died in your place on that Cross 2,000 years ago taking the Wrath of God for you, so you could have Eternal Life and be brought into a relationship with The God of the Universe who made you in His Image and created everything. This life is short, Eternity will never end and you will spend it either with God in Heaven or in Hell with the devil. Romans 10:9 “If you openly declare that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Time is running out, Jesus is Coming back so much SOONER than any of us Think to Rapture His Church Home, and when He does the worst time in Human History that the Bible tells us about called The Great Tribulation will begin and last 7 years of hell on earth. Jesus Loves You and wants a Relationship with you, God has an amazing plan for your life. God Sees You, Hears You, and Loves You. God Bless
Problems fixed? Technical problems of Bethesda games never bothered me.
However, were flaccid game design, flat characters, absurd world building and main story that would make AI cringe fixed?
Brilliant game.
Not the game a lot of people wanted, but still a great game nonetheless. 👍
I just beat the main story line after 80 hrs.
What i love about Starfield
-Unique Weapons
-Character Progression
I honestly like the little story’s Bethesda shares within their unique new universe. I’ve been playing a little bit of the hero role so maybe all the dialogue is pretty geared too to the choices I’m making. But whatever the case 🤷♂️ I’m having fun. Some of the story telling really hits, some of it misses, but what never misses, is the world of starfield itself. The universe. By no means is it perfect. It’s Bethesda game 🤣 . But I think most of us are used to it by now and expect it. Yes we want the recipe improved, but Bethesda really cooked something here.
I enjoyed Starfield for the most part but it really disappointed me the lack of options in companions where in Fallout 4 had 12+ to start with and only 4 in Starfield. As well as interesting and numerous POI’s I mean 7 Days to Die has hundreds
I played twice amd stopped both times after getting my first power. The thought of doing that 25 times was really off putting even tho I loved collecting the shouts in skyrim.
RPG choices make ZERO difference…they herd you towards one or two outcomes (even with 7 or 8 choices to start…)
Eventually I just hit Enter on every conversation to skip past the goofy-azz DON’T matter RPG choices…
Team works independently – because here is no unified keyboard layout over all part of the game. Keys even works opposite in some cases. In Paradiso quest player allowed to destory ship with innocent people, but not allowed to get rid of terrorists group taken the planet – true face of Bethesda.
i had so much hope for this game. so much. and its just so sad how it turned out. this game will never be fixed. its over.
you hating th game because is only on XBOX
Game is such a broken mess. I tried to enjoy it but it’s too buggy for me I had to uninstall it.
They should’ve delayed it for another year
Todd Howard is generally full of hype and shit.
Just started playing. Already hate the game at the character creation stage. Pronouns? Really?
“Thanks for helping out, but there are other planets that need our help. Here let me mark them on your map”
People would enjoy the game More if they came into the game for the questing and stuff it’s the same for any Bethesda game I love questing
“Not frustrating because it’s terrible. It’s frustrating because it isn’t. Starfield is frustratingly close to greatness”
Thank you for preloading your video with this idiocy, that way I didn’t waste my time on your drivel.
You good sir is ill, something is seriously wrong with you if you think this game is even close to mediocre. It’s pure trash from terrible lore to the incompetent radiant quests and settlements. BGS has pushed their radiant quests now for 14 years and people hated it already back in 2011. But BGS decided to do a whole game around that crap🤯
Starfield is nealry great? 😂
Bethesda needs to stop wasting more time on Starfield and focus on Elder Scrolls IV. Elder Scrolls is their bread and butter but feels like they abandoned it.
I dont think the repeating POIs in starfield or NMS or any game, are a valid complaint. People will play the same maps on call of duty over and over. Or race the tracks over and over in a racing game. But for some reason when it happens occasionally in a universe sided game, all the sudden its a problem
such a shame that they just copy pasted planets
it does seem boring
Im replaying starfield right now. Im taking my time to explore and listen the gsme really has a lot if you pay attention past the surface level. It has a lot of hidden things unexpected conversations and fun moments i never noticed before.
My biggest problem was the copy paste locations. Every time I land on a planet it’s the same 5 or so locations with the exact same rooms and enemies and even the loot. That’s what pulled me out. Only got 130 hours and I couldn’t take it anymore. There is simply nothing there to engage with.
There are certain side story missions and planet visits that will break the some aspects of the main game. Some got fixed, some remain.
Starfield is Amazing! I am not nit picky and enjoy it for the Bethesda game it is. Most haters will come back years later and praise it just watch.
Thank god , I already preordered The Outer Worlds 2 premium edition 😇
so creamy
Ill wait for the actual complete version wich with probably be the remaster 😂
I just couldn’t care about the characters. Almost all of them felt so stiff and fake, all of the companions just got annoying so I left them all behind and did not like the missions I had to bring them along on. Then you learn none of it matters. All of them have to be replaceable, all of them are temporary, just like the game. Could it be a fun game? Sure, it could have been, but Bethesda made it such a “safe” game that there is nothing interesting in it. The most fun I had was just flying the ship around with the No Man’s Sky style combat. Boarding was fun too, at least the first few times. I think I ended up spending the majority of my time in space and tweaking my space ship.
My favorite space encounter was running into the space granny. Best character in the game.
As an attorney who’s practice is employment law adjacent, I really appreciated that Hopetech just kept trucking along without Rob Hope. I cannot tell you how many times I’ve heard someone falsely claim that their business/employor would fail without them only for it not to.
The worst part are the recycled locations on the planets and in the main quest. When you go to the same place on a different planet it takes you right out of the game. They were so lazy to have such a lack of content.
14 minutes in and it’s just non stop complaining
Emilio writing ruined most of StarField.
Sum it up perfectly with the “frustrating” it does a lot of cool things, I quite like base building and ship making but it has so many flaws that I just can’t give it much more than a 6-6.5
Specifically the missions with the temple where you go and float around collecting the lights are some of the most tedious, monotonous, repetitive things I’ve ever been asked to do in a main quest for a game and it’s baffling how they got okay’d
I’m going to have to argue with you about the improvements being targeted at the core problems… the core problems are the characters, story and illusion of choice and consequence. None of that is going to be fixed by adding a map, giving us ground vehicles, or cleaning up some bugs. Starfield has decent ground combat, fun ship customization, and an interesting basic premise, the rest of it is horrible. Boring, uncompelling characters… boring but pretty environments… ridiculous planets that are both “empty” and utterly covered with “dungeons” full of the same enemy over and over… a drab story with very few meaningful choices or consequences, etc.
What Bethesda is doing is putting lipstick on a pig.
What baffles me is how rare it is for games to have stealth disguise mechanics in modern gaming. Either open-world RPG’s or even stealth genre games very rarely have this. And if games do have this then it’s usually a “staged” mission and doesn’t work anywhere else in the game.
What they need to do is get the team behind the writing of Oblivion to do a complete rewrite of the entirety of Starfield, then build planets to fit all of it, one at a time. There can be planets with virtually nothing on them, in fact most of them should have no humans or structures at all… but they need to _actually_ have nothing there but natural formations if that is what they are going for. Its jarring to find a planet that is supposedly barren and unknown to humanity that has a foundry, or military base, or destroyed settlement all overrun with the same 3 factions of enemies every few hundred meters. Is it barren and unknown or not? How can a planet that is “unknown” have as much or more human presence than the capital worlds of system spanning governments?
I think you nailed it. This game could be good. I think the underlying mechanics, while there is huge room for improvement, are still good enough. However, the mission design is bloody awful. The shooter missions are fun because the shooter mechanics are fun and the design of the missions is often pretty good. The rest are terrible.
They kinda dont need to stay alive for any of it to work due to the whole end game mechanic.. sure you cannot complete the quest this time but is that really a big deal? Besides, bethesda games used to let you fail quests, why cant we go back to that??
I will never understand how Bethesda doesn’t get the ubisoft treatment from Fans
This is a good review! I’m not sure that I agree with you on the effect of the smaller, throwaway missions, though. One thing that sets Bethesda games apart from traditional western RPGs is their focus on being a world that you’re stepping into over being a linear, constructed narrative. While Starfield’s scripted material is some of Bethesda’s finest, I think the game benefits wildly from the proc-gen material. I love booting it up, picking a planet, and making a day of it – surveying the surface, doing some dungeons, maybe hitting a radiant quest or two. I find that you can enter a sort of zen-like state playing the game, picking up generated missions from boards in distant outposts and setting out to complete them. Like wandering through a garden and picking fruit from trees. The ideal Starfield 2 would improve the scripted material in the way you’re talking about – given the NG+ conceit, there’s no reason they couldn’t have decisions that leave a huge impact – but I think it would also improve on their proc-gen systems instead of abandoning them.
It’s like Todd Howard forgot the basics of what made games like Morrowind, Oblivion, and Skyrim so good: smaller, handcrafted experiences compared to Daggerfall’s gigantic and meaningless scale. Funny thing is, and IIRC, it was Todd’s idea to make Morrowind smaller compared to Daggerfall, and this practically saved the Elder Scrolls franchise. Now, it seems Todd got caught up in the “bigger is better” execuitive mantra and shareholder cravings.
Procedural generation wasnt a mistake, their implementation of it was the mistake.
The game needed to be trimmed massively, get rid of all the different planets and systems. Set the game in one singular star system with 7 or so different planets. Make them big but don’t worry about making them 1:1 scale, create big patches of hand-crafted areas on each planet while using procedural generation for the area in between them. Let people actually travel across the planet seamlessly and get rid of fast travel. You have a fucking space ship, that’s your fast travel.
oh yeh. that corpo spy missions was ultra boring
I agree. Starfield could have been great. But its got bits of weakness. more patches can make this game in to a ultra great game.
With other Words : Re(make)-Todds cashgrab Company is preparing the lube for the Elderscrolls VI-Money-Fist-Fest, then the “Braindead” (Fans) gooble every sh.t they can get and that for every Priccccce !!!! Content ? Pffff, the braindead need overpriced B.s nothing more 🤣
Jet packs need both horizontal and vertical boosters to make the player feel more like a superhero in combat
I literally stopped playing during a stealth mission.
Should be able to systemically depopulate an entire planet.
I want mechs
There’s always an issue when it comes to open world and “freedom to rp” I think its important that this game doesn’t let you kill certain characters to close certain places. I don’t think it would be a fun experience to brick the game because you killed x character 4 saves ago and now can’t proceed. There are games that give you the freedom that OP is talking about ie BG3 etc.. However I think it leads to less fun experience when you unknowingly kill someone and miss out quests that would’ve been fun. It doesn’t seem like a big deal but for me it is.
Starfiled is like a shelf of snowglobes, individualy they look great and have interestings features but despite being on the same shelf they never interact with eachother even if 1 or more snowglobes are based on the same planet, just a huge lack of connectivity.
Without Mods, Starfield is poop.
Starfield is a frustrating game, not frustrating because its terrible… err Yes it is. Pure trash.
Thank you for such a varied review acknowledging both the good and the bad points.
I will hold off buying it until a sale or until QoL improvements
Did modders just give up on the game or is nothing coming to console, haven’t seen anything of any real substance in months.
What’s the game at 29:46?
No Man Sky.
When Starfield came out it was a time just before wokeness in games was called out for making the work and writing Luke warm and lacking depth. My theory is that while Starfield isn’t “woke” I have to think there is a shared notion of it in some of the staff. Every character, good or bad, it so middle of the road it causes it to come across as afraid of potential conflict. Maybe I’m wrong, but the game is so huge and so beautiful it’s almost weird that there’s no overly passionate characters. It’s like the extremes of the human and in some cases nonhuman condition just aren’t present and it’s stifling
Starfield is…. OK
Not terrible, not great, just OK
Unfortunately it’s not good enough to keep my attention through multiple play throughs and there’s some things that once you notice you can’t un-notice that kinda really bug me.
The game just feels half-baked from top to bottom. Bethesda clearly promised and tried to do way too much.
Look at Star Citizen—it’s been in development for over a decade, with $800 million in funding, and they’re still barely pulling it off.
So what in the world was Bethesda thinking trying to build something on that scale using their janky, homemade engine? It was never going to work without a serious tech overhaul.
Time and money would have been better spent on well…. ELDER SCROLLS 6 or maybe a cyberpunk type of game. Something to a scale they are more use to.
Despite that is I agree with the vast majority of this, I too actually really enjoy the game. The atmosphere and immersion is incredible at times. I feel like I was nostalgia for this game from the second I started it and I’m just constantly riding the high of what it could be. I’ve been there before with a notorious live service game snd it never ended and I just stopped playing. With Starfield being a single player game I don’t expect it to get as much continuous attention. Or if it does I’ll have to just keep spending money on creations/mods to get it as close to what I had hoped it would be.
My biggest issue with Starfield is it’s primarily a game about exploring with nothing to explore. There’s infinite planets but no reason to go to any of them. The whole game should have been built around your ship and the pursuit of upgrades for that ship in order to reach further and further planets. The main quest is also a massive wasted opportunity. It has a cool concept with the multiverse and jumping to a new one as a new game plus is a great mechanic but it’s ultimately pointless as barely anything changes. Also, the main faction of constellation would have been a side quest in any other Bethesda game.
This game is so good….Modded 😂
You criticize the game for lack of consequences, and 5 minutes later you criticize it for the consequence of companions leaving if you make bad choices….A bit of a contradiction….I haven’t played starfield, so i am confused by your angle here…
I didn’t hate Starfield at all but it just didn’t hook me enough to finish it like I did Skyrim and Fallout 3. As soon as another game came out that was interesting I just moved on. Gotta go back and replay it someday
great video, really good points, especially on shattered space. its refreshing to see someone critique this game without turning it into a hit piece. this game is flawed, but still has soul, and potential. its a beautiful disaster
Still seems as soulless and lifeless as it was on release day
Point of Interest (POI) simple add on? Name based on planet and coordinates, so unique names, not great, but better than same POIs everywhere.
Very good review, I am not angry, I am disappointed.
300 hours… Holy sh!t your crazy for that I got through 25hrs and wanted to shoot myself
I get what you’re saying about Ron Hope but if Bill Gates were to die tomorrow Microsoft would simply carry on without him.
im gonna comment before watching, starfield felt lazy and incredibly shallow. i never wanted to build an outpost, i wanted to live off my ship. good luck with that. and the space aspect of the game was friggin terrible. if someone ever makes a mod that makes it so i dont come out of grav drive right in the middle of the smallest asteroid field in existence would be an insta download.
theres so much to list i dont even know where to start, its overwhelming.
one of the most disappointing games ever.
It still sucks. Bland and boring
Imagine unironically playing this game in 2025
Whoever thinks Starfield is a good game has shit taste in games.
Ur, doom, wolfenstein, evil within, fallout, new franchises. It could be thier hub system. They are getting you used to it by trickling content until you produce. Then they see where they lack. New directions.
Corporations don’t just end if the CEO dies… 5:00
it’s still terrible and unfun – there saved you 50 minutes
I admire your positive approach, but frankly you asking players to dig through the rubble of what Starfield is and hope to come across some enjoyable moments.
Given the scope of Starfield (and the STILL unreliable save system that was NOT FIXED since launch that can corrupt ALL your save files at ANY point) the time requirement alone would make any sane person go NOPE.
Personally I’ve been exploring the world and the first play and I was alright with the janky nature of the game, but when at 125 hours of “my story” I end up with being unable to load anything that to me speaks of the developer not respecting their customers enough to fix a literally game breaking issue for years.
So that’d be an even bigger NOPE.
This game will collect dust as it should.
Alright, i guess I’ll save fallout 3 real quick and get back on starfield
I remember thinking that opening music would be one I reach for years after the first time I played it. With the nostalgia of that first playthrough, but honestly after about 3 hours I was bored AF of this game
By far the best star-field overview, you gained a sub
Games great one of the best this gen
Upon revisting this game after not playing since launch, im finding it to be much more fun than i remember. Not perfect, but im liking it much more than Fallout 4.
Excelent review
It’s such a shame tha every person inside Bethesda don’t think those negative opinion are worth hearing….
The ’empty’ planets wouldn’t be so bad if they were *actually* empty; bit difficult to play a pioneering astrocartographer when the ‘unsettled’ planet is littered with the same 6 prefabs and signs of human habitation that all the others do.
other than the atrociously contrived and unoriginal worldbuilding and writing; my biggest gripe with Starfield was that it’s simultaneously too empty and not empty enough (notwithstanding the issues of loading screens, ugly NPC’s etc)
I really wish this game would pull a NoMansSky and be great.
Instead, it feels … hollow. Bethesda is a dying studio and it feels like it could be rectified with just caring like they once did.
There’s so much potential. So much possibility. It’s RIGHT there
300 hours with Starfield??? Is everything ok???
Handcrafted is always better than procedural. A lesson i hope they learned
At best I’d call this reviews viewpoint “sympathetic”. Shattered Space was the first story led Bethesda DLC I have ever walked away from without finishing. I was too bored, irritated, and disappointed. There is no fixing a game with these sorts of issues – the problems the game (and DLC) has are interwoven in the very fabric of the game, and cannot be corrected. I think my personal hell will be “Star Field – Remastered”.
I thought the game was AAAAAAA flop
I get the impression (from an outside looking in perspective) that while Starfield is clearly a passion project for Bethesda, it might also be a testing ground for them before working on TES:VI. Maybe they are trying to see how well their writing style and mission-structure resonates with the modern audience, while also testing how compatible they are with a much larger map & worldspace.
Admittedly this is purely speculation, and perhaps hopelessly optimistic, but I think they’ll continue to push out more updates and DLC for starfield until we see it transform from a bang-average rpg game into an amazing/rich rpg game. Before they then take what they’ve learned into their development of the next TES game. I say this because realistically, TES VI is their most highly anticipated title and if they get it wrong, they are in big trouble. Which I think they are acutely aware of at this point.
The game is hot caca. Every planet has the exact same buildings, same rooms in those buildings, and the same items in those rooms. Exploration is horrible and so is the performance. It’s a solid 3/10 🎉
I was really annoyed that the New Game Plus function didn’t let me reset my character’s background.
With my first playthrough, I chose the “no parents” option.
Well, I guess that character never gets parents in any of his realities.
I desperately wanted to like this game. Didn’t even set my expectations very high and anticipated the usual Bethesda jank, but man this game failed for me in every conceivable way.
For all its flaws, and I mean absolutely rank despicable flaws, the main reason I’m not playing it right now instead of watching this video is an infuriating bug where none of my mods are effecting the game. Using Nexus’s Vortex. Everything on Vortex’s end shows normal, but then nothing is actually working to influence the game at all… I’ve been using Vortex/NMM for a decade…
What pissed me off about starfield is the questing is hit or miss, basically chocked up to redoing specific faction quests to keep me engaged, shattered space was boring, didn’t even finish it. What really pissed me off though, is the unity new game plus. If it’s going to a “NEW” universe or version, why is it just the lodge characters affected? Why couldn’t they swap genders of quest givers, or have npc’s have entirely different roles in the world, but alas because of the game design, there’s no way to get that.
the biggest problem here is that they only went half in on procedural generation instead a space Daggerfall we got a worse version of how Star Citizen alpha played like before 3.18 now Star citizen at 4.0 works leagues better and still the game is in a pre alpha state
I also very much enjoy Starfield. It’s been on my game roster since launch.
Tod lie to me for the last time. I Will never ever Buy another Bethesda Game.
Nice review. But Ron Hope gone, and Hopetown Business as usual, is fine. It should show more the area progressing without the Hope scandals. People are more free, and you are needed to help get Hope Town back in order, and help choose the new Director. I want to explore with a peaceful journey, because we live in a not so peaceful world. My starfield role play helps we escape that. Every NG+ I play, the Fleet gets taken down 🤷🏾♂️ This new Space Station is more appealing, cleaner and better looking than The Key 🤮
27:20 This is because that’s exactly how this game was developed. In a talk that a former Bethesda gave at a conference, he talked about the broken structure of the company. Many studios positioned all over the world worked on separate parts of the game that were then stitched together as a whole package. That’s why the game feels like a bunch of disconnected systems, because it is. He also talked about how if you had a question about art or design, you used to be able to walk over and talk to the department, but now you have to go through 5 levels of managers to get anything approved, slowing development to a halt. Bethesda has gotten to big to succeed.
Biggest disappointment in gaming, right next to battlefield 2042. There is just no saving this game. The direction of procedural generation was just a terrible idea…
Oh my God. What a terrible video. The companions are amazing and deep? The quests are enjoyable? You gotta get out more… Your video is as bad as starfield… Maybe YouTube isn’t your thing
Starfield needs
A 1st person see your body camera
Allow us to have more than 2 followers bump it up to 10 u know a small platoon we can give weapons and armor too instead of collecting dust on mannequins 😆
Incorporate mirrors edge/dying light 2 movement momentum navigation & combat.
blink twice if you are being held against your will
300 hrs wtf 😂. That’s nasty work.
I still skipped Starfield because of the pronouns alone and I will stand behind that forever, I will never even try starfield because of the pronouns, out of principle.
The rest of the flaws or pros, I do not even care about them, for me it ended before it even began, and I suspect many many other people are like me.
In my opinion, the unforgivable flaw of Starfield is that there is NO world, you spend your time loading in and out small areas, they literally removed the main feature that made past Bethesda games attractive, and since there is no world, there is basically no exploration, and to add insult to injury the loading screens are so numerous that you can’t ignore them, if only they managed to make it work like No Man’s Sky or Elite, it would have at least alleviated some of it.
Idk but i love it. There arent many space games that tic the “play as a person who haopens to be using a ship to do stuff” instead of playing as the space ship. For me theres only no mans sky, this game, and star citizen, and the flaws drom each are very apparent.
I grinded the game for three weeks, from pre-order. I wanted to love that game, and ended up hating it and sorry I pre-ordered it. ( It did teach me to NEVER pre-order games). anyway, deleted it and never played or will play it again.
This is going to sound insane, but this game gives me Atari game vibes in terms of depth. I had as much fun playing this as I would playing pitfall.
I started a new playthrough with mods and it’s definitely one of my favorite games now but the vanilla game is so frustrating because it feels half done. There’s meat on them bones and a lot of potential but they should have waited and let this cook more. Which is crazy because apparently it was in development for years?
I’m not opposed to procedural generation but if you’re going that route then you need to build a ton of assets to mix together. Otherwise scale it back and just build handcrafted POIs.
I think there should be a post campaign system that allows you to truly roleplay the kind of character you want –like allowing us to ditch Constellation and recruit followers from other factions. Like if we wanna be a pirate then allow us to run a full crew of Crimson Fleet or spacers that don’t get pissy at every indiscretion we commit. Allow us to build a pirate base. Same goes for like a Freestar Ranger or UC SYSDEF, if we wanna roleplay as a lawman then expand on that and those systems.
That’s the problem with the vanilla game; wide as an ocean and deep as a puddle.
And Bethesda seems intent on letting the modders essentially fix their game. Which is infuriating to a degree.
But I’m grateful it’s open to mods because like I said, with the right loadout it’s become one of my favorite games now.
Not even gonna read this comment section of fake game analysts and critics that PARROT the same 6 things people have been saying since it came out. I’ll say this though they need their next entry to be DEI FREE!!!….GORE, CONTROVERSY, SWEARING, RELIGIOUS TOPICS, EDGY FACTIONS and it’s time for the character models to start looking good
Starfield is low T
Game is just trash, I had my fun but it’s just soooo bad in its game design.. There is like no reason to upgrade your ship besides travel distance and even that can be skipped, there is no reason to build an outpost, no reason to finish the developments.. No reason to explore planets or discover new plants.. The game lacks motivation on all ends, it feels like an alpha version of it self..
The whole game is a missed opportunity
They show us all these cool creatures and mechs and they tell us about the cool great war and all it’s history but then they drop us in the most uneventfull time in the entire franchise..
Not to mention the lack of roleplay possibilitys
Even if I want to become an outlaw, Im still forced to be an ‘explorer hero’ or whatever they thought of with the role they force you into
Bethesda needs to get their sh together I swear
Regarding the loading screens: When I played this game I noticed that loading screens took longer to load the longer I played. Before I played Starfield I was playing Cyberpunk 2077 on my pc and the loading screens took just a few seconds.
In Starfield I had loading screens that took more than 10 minutes after 1-2 hours of gameplay, which was especially annoying when doing certain quests that required me to jump through multiple loading screens in a row (in addition to the ones for travelling between planets). Funny side fact: I had the same issue with Fallout 4 on this pc and the one I owned before. The longest loading screen I witnessed in Fallout 4 took by the way 17 minutes and it was all to load into a small house with basically nothing in it.
I had this issue with two games from Bethesda now and it appeared on two different pc’s that have no issue with quick loading times on any other games at all. Does anyone want to guess if I’ll purchase the new Elder Scrolls game at release? 😅
Imagine if Starfield focused on exploring another solar system, instead of 1000 planets. Around 15-20 planets, and their moons
Seems they put efforts, focus, on the less important things in an rpg.
Graphics details, number of planets, etc, instead of actual dynamic role-playing, ai, npcs, quests, original places.
On Varuun: “Here we are, a rock band searching for new audiences, but wherever we go, Coca-Cola’s already been…”
Fun video! I love Starfield in spite of itself, too, so I get it. My only argument would be regarding the companions, which I believe share the same moral template, but that would be quibbling. I will say I wish the pros could do at least as well as the modders (Inigo, Heather Casdin, etc).
Cheers!
There’s a lot of things I liked about Starfield. I like the main premise, I love ship building, I liked building up a crew (people say Constellation are the only companions and this is just factually untrue, many of the potential crew mates act as companions and even have unique personalities and dialogue, such as the guy from the crimson fleet and the miners from the opening), I love the attention to detail with the items in the world (especially the food items) and I actually enjoyed collecting these often useless items and displaying them on my dashboard in my ship, as they could be seen in first person when flying and added a really personalized touch to your view when flying (I’d always have a stack of books and maybe a drink for the trip that would eat up a small corner of my viewport in first person). I think some of the planets and vistas are really pretty. There’s a lot aesthetically I adore about Starfield. The problems are just with the depth of the game. I stop caring about the cool trinkets on my dashboard when I realize that there’s nowhere I actually want to fly to. There are simply not enough POIs in the pool, so visiting a random dungeon feels completely pointless when I realized I’d already completed the exact same dungeon. Outposts and ship landing sites are repetitive and lifeless. Scanning a planet is an absolute chore and is basically pointless unless you’re really attached to a certain planet, which you never are because the planets all feel exactly the same and have nothing worth visiting and nobody worth talking to. Some of the side quests are interesting, some are incredibly stupid and nonsensical, most are pointless.
You said you thought the factions were great, I disagree. Some of the factions are great on paper, but most of them are so insular and unreactive that they feel blatantly fake and disconnected. For instance, I can join the Crimson Fleet and become a wanted criminal, and this restricts my ability to visit New Atlantis, which is great actually! I wish there was some sort of smuggler’s way to sneak in bypassing the scan, but sure it’s still cool. But then when I do get in, I can just walk up to the kiosk and join the army or the Freestar lawmen with barely a question asked and suddenly it doesn’t matter if I’m a mass murderer, now I’m a government sponsored sheriff or soldier in the army.
Starfield works when you purposefully roleplay and just “pretend” your actions have any consequences or matter at all. You *can* be a space chef… But why would you? You can’t really make any money selling food, you don’t really need the food to survive, it doesn’t cost food to feed your crew (it’s been a minute so I’m pretty sure this is the case but I could be wrong). You *could* be a pirate, hijacking raided ships, but you can’t make ANY money by reselling entire ships… this would make sense when selling to the major cities, they’re unlicensed after all, but unrestricted ship sales should literally be the main draw to join the Crimson Fleet and yet they only give you enough profit to buy a single food item after going through all the work to steal a ship and fly it back to the base, to the point it’s objectively NOT WORTH being a pirate just because it’s a total waste of time and effort.
The economy makes absolutely no sense and utterly *destroys* all sense of immersion. I appreciate being able to buy property and build ships, significant money sinks, but beyond that, having money is basically useless. There is absolutely no reason to want to amass a fortune besides the intrinsic desire to build more ships (you really only need 1 or 2 anyways, but ship building is the best part of the game so you end up wasting money on it anyways). Otherwise there is almost nothing worth spending any money on. The gear in general is trash, there’s not nearly enough clothing or armor sets, weapons will literally be outclassed by random loot drops so why bother buying that…? The only other thing “””worth””” buying is materials for setting up an outpost.
Outposts are absolutely EMBARRASSING. They’re so bad it actually makes me retroactively hate Fallout 4 even more than I already did. I now appreciate FO4s exploration and gameplay loop after a ridiculously long modded playthrough, but it will always sting how much of that game was sacrificed to prop up settlement building, SIM Settlements literally saved that game for me. But they put all that effort into settlement building, and now in Starfield it’s such a ridiculous waste of time and effort. Building settlements is an exercise in pointless futility. Getting supplies to build ANYTHING takes significant effort, so you may as well just buy all the materials. Fine. Except there’s NO REASON to even build a settlement on a boring empty planet, besides RESOURCE FARMING, WHICH YOU ONLY NEED IN ORDER TO BUILD SETTLEMENTS. Sure, you can set up a resource farm and get a broken amount of money, but as I said, money is literally useless unless you’re building ships or buying materials to set up a resource farm, which you now already have. So you wasted 9 hours of complete boredom to build a boring, ugly, desolate settlement, just to get money when you could have gotten more than you’ll really ever need just looting one dungeon or completing certain quests.
Starfield is a game with a LOT of potential. The problem really is the age old criticism. It’s as wide as an ocean and as deep as a puddle. The longer you play, the more you realize how utterly pointless ALL of it is. The cool vistas stop being cool. Building and decorating your ship becomes pointless autism farming when you realize it’s faster to just menu fast travel and barely use the ship. Fast travelling becomes annoying as hell when you realize it’s almost never worth it to go ANYWHERE. The game itself becomes pointless once you accept that nowhere is worth visiting, nothing is worth doing, the story content is bland and hollow, the quests are stupid, and the world is a dead void with nothing of value.
Starfield genuinely feels like an exercise in nihilistic existentialism. It made me really think… Is this all that’s out there? Empty rocks and valueless money? Boring people and petty squabbles over stupid non-issues? And then they want you to New Game+… To give up EVERYTHING, all the time wasted, just to get some stupid magic powers that realistically add nothing to the game. The game is flat out a disaster, an infuriating, boring, pointless disaster that gets exponentially worse the longer you play it. I genuinely liked the first 7 hours or so (excluding the boring first hour) because I didn’t *know* how pointless it was yet. I saw potential, an endless universe of possibilities, but the actual possibilities are FAR FAR FAR less than any other Bethesda game ever.
Just found your channel man. You do fantastic work.
calling this game a franchise is generous
Starfield is a pretty good example of what happens when devs prioritize quantity over quality. Having 1000 planets and moons available to land is meaningless if the player is going to see the same dungeons/points of interest over and over again across most of them. A smaller universe (one that focused solely on the Settled Systems, for example) with more handcrafted and unique content would’ve made this game much better, perhaps on par with Skyrim.
Starfield isn’t a terrible game. I actually enjoy the way it blends space combat with RPG and first person shooting. However, that doesn’t prevent me from seeing still flaws.
starfield is a cluster fuc mentally 1000 planets leaves me feeling like i dont want to even try
The base building was also do rudimentary, with the system of fallout 4 they could have easily designed a settlement system that allowed you to build populated settlements. You could have thr plater build premade habd or build them yourselves, farm plots etc.
I definitely don’t think it deserves the hate it gets. People just had such wild expectations for it they can’t handle that it’s just a solid game just not amazing
I don’t want to tell you this but I don’t think they will make anymore expansions for you. They would have to fix to much to have modders mod for the game and they seem to left the game to die. Bethesda made its money from the game and isn’t a company that cares anymore about there games.
Great breakdown video!
It’s still bad. 😔
Reminds me of the “monumental choice” at the end of Mass Effect 3 where no decision you made prior matters.
I even remember from the 90s BioWare RPGSs like Baldur’s Gate 1 + 2 and Neverwinter Nights from 00s that you actually could either entirely lose story paths or lose companions after you make certain moral choices. The system in those games adhered more strictly to the DnD morality system (l It’s like a combination lawful, chaotic , true, and neutral, evil and good). That system allows to divide characters into different moral camps and to restrict or open story lines based on it.
I don’t agree with the very negative reviews of Starfield, but there is one thing I hate about it, and that is the game’s music. It could be just my biased opinion and maybe I am imagining it but read what I mean by it.
The music in Starfield sounds very unoriginal. It’s like a combination of musical motifs used in many movies and previous games. This motif can be described “overly optimistic”, “sense of wonder”, and “overly optimistic” sound. It and other tracks in the game lack the so called “darkness” or “pessimism” sound which is needed in many games.
In fact this main theme sound is very similar to the music in Outer Worlds and Outcast to name a few.
When I play Starfield I get immediately tired of this incessant “wondrous discovery” feeling of forced optimism.
Did anyone get the same impression from the game’s music?
Its not really fun whenever it crashes every 20 to 30 min of play only game tht crashes on my system
7:41 do they leave you now? Last I remember you could be the sort human scum in the galaxy and they’ll still stay by your side.
On one of the first worlds I explored I found a bio lab. Cool, creepy, alien experimentation and pirates – was a lot of fun. By chance, the next world I went to had… a bio lab… with the same copy-paste proceedual rooms, pirates and…. my heart sank. It wasn’t that the game wasn’t deep… it wasn’t even shallow.
Welp. At release, I rolled a stealth/melee space ninja and I started my first and only play-through by working through the Ryujin quest line, since it seemed like it would suit my character. It didn’t take me long to realize (1) there are only like 5 melee weapons in the whole game, none of which are super viable for mid-late game, and (2) the Ryujin quest line is terrible. I uninstalled before I hit 20 hours. Maybe I should go back and try some of the better stuff, with a more optimal set of skills/attributes.
No matter how many times I try to play this game, I can’t, it’s bad, just bad and boring.
4/10 and that’s generous.
Bored nothing new, no MP or Co op Mp, all old crap. So long uninstal
That pirates of the carribean joke caught me completely off guard
You don’t know what you are talking about, this is not ‘classic roleplay’ at all.
I’m not sure if I am wrong, but you’re not restricted to be good. If you’re doing evil or sinister things. Dont’ you just tell you companion to go away?
Starfield is immersion hell, it breaks everything they try to simulate. Space travel is fast travel from a menu, so you don’t feel like traveling, or exploring space, and any point of interest in outer space is just a point of interest in an empty space that you don’t stumble on, you just need to press a travel button in the map menu and you’re there, anything you have to discover is at your reach, no exploring whatsoever. And then we have the lack of interactivity, anything immersive comes from your imagination when you’re coping with the fact the game is very limited. I wouldn’t have minded the loading screens if the game was strong at immersion, at interactivity, and better RPG with actual weight on your choices with significant consequences.
The game fails at exploration, it fails at writing, it fails overall. It’s playable, it’s almost like a 2006 game with modern tech and graphics, it’s not a horrible game, but it barely excels at anything, and the only thing I really enjoyed was building ships, but the gameplay just felt underwhelming once you finally took your new ship for a flying. It’s mediocre, it has grinding mechanics that kept me playing, but I didn’t feel as satisfied by gameplay as I did in Baldur’s Gate 3, Outer Wilds and Red Dead Redemption 2, games that really succeed at immersion.
Why was settlements so much worse than fallout 4. If I could have turned worlds into settlements that turn into little cities I would have put 1000 hours in
I think starfield has potential to be a great game. Its bethesda new franchise in over 25 years, it wasn’t going to be a grand hit off the bat with perfect results
I get they’re working on ES6 but they should have a permanent 30-40 people working on SF with one goal. “Go crazy and make it better” no strings just let the creative team be you know creative. What do they got to lose?
Andreja voice actress is on a strike and won´t record more voicelines so there´s that
People still play this?
Bro you’re way to generous to this game. It’s 100% generic slop and has no heart. The women who wrote this trash don’t care. They’re not gamers. They don’t get it. The BGS of old just doesn’t exist anymore.
First words, startfield is a frustrating game 😂😂😂😂 i give up after 20 hours lol try star citizen guys if you manage to keep playing regards bugs the game is good
Let me say that the idea that without a businessmen a company cant function is a liberal fantasy. Maybe, without businessmen some companies wouldn’t be founded, that is for sure, but a certain point business have a life of its own and there is no single person calling the shots and no one is special or irreplaceable.
The game released and dropped the ball and now months later we are supposed to praise them fixing a few mistakes? The rp is horrible, just because someone calls you a bounty hunter doesn’t mean that is rp, you being a bounty hunter or doctor changes nothing to little things of no value. I’m really trying to meet you halfway On this video but it’s difficult
I agree with what you pointed out that the fundamental problem is that Starfield breaks Bethesda’s classic gameplay loop of going from A to B and finding all kinds of handcrafted environments and side quests in between. My best memories of games like Skyrim and Fallout 4 happened while I walked toward a quest objective and got distracted along the way. Starfield doesn’t allow that because of the nature of its scope and need of fast travel.
Not only do they have copy-pasta POIs but the interiors all have the exact same props laid out in identically. You could easily ignore that the buildings are identical. I just adjusted my head cannon by telling myself that it makes sense for buildings to repeat because we are in space and the buildings are prefabricated. It would make sense that buildings constructed of prefabricated modules would all look the same. But it completely breaks your emersion when you enter a building and the interior will have a dead body or a poster on the wall, a plate of food or box of ammo on a table. All placed in exactly the same position in a an identically decorated room on the other side of the galaxy. They could at least have randomised the space suit the body was wearing or randomised the interior paint colour. The writing is so immature.. There is no grittiness ,no dark, sinister or adult themes. I watched grittier Saturday morning cartoons when I was a kid in the 80s and add to that absolutely zero sex appeal. I don’t mean it is bad because it isn’t a gooner game but the game has a romance system that is written and plays out in a way that is so immature that I think a young child would find it cringey. I just cant believe that any adult that played this game at Bethesda before it was released didn’t notice any of these issues. Its trying so hard to be safe and inoffensive that it ends up being offensive. It feels like it was written by a child that has led a very sheltered life…Oh and don’t get me started on the NPCs. They are the only thing in the game that feels like it should be R rated because they look absolutely terrifying!!
13:00 Fallout 4 was bland too. Everything wrong with Starfield is also in FO4, just in variable quantities.
I think Starfield could be improved a great deal if a couple of changes/tweaks are made. My big thing though, is that I feel a lot of the changes and additions Starfield did make will actually HEAVILY improve the next Elder Scrolls title. Mainly the character backgrounds and the unique dialogue options. I think the persuasion minigame is actually a great idea and could work well if expanded slightly, I like that ladders exist now (think of a siege questline or just additional dungeon verticality). Also since Elder Scrolls games are set in one world, we don’t have the same loading screen issues.
Also, if the new TES game is in Hammerfell or High Rock, we could get another “Ship” building system and use the generative/POI system in miniature in the Bay shared by those nations.
Sorry but i have to say this. You are overselling game´s positive vibe of it did this as good point when in reality its just curtain hiding awful thing behind. When your background give so called dialogue. Yes whole 3-5 points in game. If your background is 3 dialogues it´s not that amazing system. Game´s world building is bad, majority of content is bad, lets not even act there is massive positives in this game. Not even speaking spoiler part what literally just give dialogue skip it self from repeating stuff. Baldur´s gate 3 is amazing game but its not perfect either. There dialogue of there is positives and negatives work. Like personal take there is this. I wind evil playthought not playable similar manner as good one simply because game directly reward good than evil more. I love dark urge story in game but to fulfill those quotas of evil you get trashed and lose quality content from game. But in starfield had never good in it. In my honest option.
About some point what i personally i would like to agree with you not to sound absolute brick. I would share my experience of starfield.
– I entered game simply to waste time, grind, explore and play own character. Most interest and hope on dialogue aspect of game. Tried to make science guy who build stuff and scan stuff.
– Game´s exploration aspect died moment i landed first planet after tutorial. When you see 3 same buildings in row. It takes hit your detour on places to see oh no… Same corpse with same story on 3 places.
– Tried scanning floora to notice how awful system that is. Later on noticed guest system for it. But again… How broken systems this is. You have underwater animals what you need to scan order to get whole scan done. You cannot go underwater and animals liking under acid, Deadly bacterial in water. You scanner cannot reach and you have no ability to see thru liquid where these flora was. Not even speaking of how awfully limited data is given by game. That you can use ship swap biomess to see other animals… Then you have no map to locate beach to see sea animals. You had to guess where water is located and walk minutes that direction.
– I said fuck that i go stealing pirates ships to see net income from of bureaucratic hellscape steal 300 000k ship worth to 1k to income. Not even speaking expenses and other parts… Yea dropped that as well. Looting was clearly not effective anyways as shops had no money and what hassle. When you try denie illegal stuff to your ship and swapping ships moves them inside your new ships invenstry… Jail time if no save scummin…
– Start grinding buildings, tech, ship, everything around in matter of fact i somehow found my self disgusted doing guests as game it self kept building walls around me that annoyed shit out of me.
– I made automatic material transfer system where i could easy spam XP exploit. then started going to do quest. Got all levels max and then started doing guests.
– Once i did all quests did final guest to unlock secret and its grand price. What we´re awful and more boring work. To improve RNG armor and ship what is weaker than your self build one…. Even after 10x improving it.
– Hope earn more mysteries in secret ending to see it just gives player choice to repeat secret or skip game it self. At times jab at things what i wont spoil…
– I tried to do major quests again to see this element happen with dialogues of i know things… I have seen things…. Stop that I know things….
– Also game has save your ship blueprint so you have build everything again sake of bad ship from secret.
Again i hoped simple roleplay game. But it failed hard. Things i want to also bring upon what you said your self. Why you cannot use non-leathal weapon outside stunning animals for collecting gene samples after quest “I mean only thing i knew to use it “. Like Sheriff faction ships literally have jail inside ship and you cannot drag criminal scum to jail…. Like important quest people like you spoke in video. there is means and tools to bring people alive to trial and we´re given only to shoot to kill. Like game does so many times this awful invisible wall system in fucking everyplace. You cannot earn money fast, you cannot do this, you cannot get that, Game feels like awful simply because potential was there. Why this game´s world is so awfully build. There was war where cowboys mechwarrios vs mutant animals from federation fought and decided nothing of this type tech is available anymore. Like what is this bad story telling. You have survey universe what has not been touched by men yet there is human buildings everywhere. Like did people not collect data? We have moral dileamma losing content if your evil near your companions. When reactivity is one means gain satisfaction from game to see people around care notice what you do. But when its literally noose on your neck its annoying. Whole dilemma what criticize in BG3 of Evil vs Good. Here evil is extinct. at times world feel overly everything is fine when lore was. Cowboys mechs vs mutant bilogical weapons with massive fleet battles. Come on. You import your laziness problem from fallout 4 where your defencess mean nothing because enemy either takes ages to come to attack or teleport middle of your city as you travel. Then you have to fix everything manually with out knowing whats broken. Whole system of you cannot kill critical people because they break quest. Well that is devs problem to adjust that. Fallout new vegas figured things out. Not even speaking whole secret “At end” What boiled my how dump it is.
Sorry if i sound ranting. But personal level. Game needs like 4x times more content in dialogue and story telling. More grim, and something spice up game and its world. Its outright silly see sheriff mechs and bio-weapons of byrecracts are illegal so there is non anymore as lore reason few years after war ended. This game is amateur level stuff left to make it look like proper game. Hand busy building stuff there childish glee cowboy´s in space with mechs prum prum gigantitc bug what alters minds frumm. But everything was left this level in story telling. They released this game. Why? Same level of question is left about Secret ending. Why is this not most important thing to game to advance world forward. Why secret ending could not alter whole story or important part whole story. But no its just skip content button. When most likely player is 500 levels at this point.
Again i would love this game if it was more but its just building blocks. It needs more what most likely wont come. If there was something where this game could take some inspiration. It would be Kenshi. Game where you are not chosen one. You are mere person trying to survive earn own income like a live in apocalyptic world. It would fit this game well as you could literally be traveling trader or a city founder in current mess of world. But scifi look at it. They tried this in Fallout 4. But here they had more liberty do what they wanted. But honestly i sense this studio just have overly goofy story telling they cannot do stuff right. This is why i call this game building blocks as metaphor. Builder is toddler named Emil Pagliarulo game needs better mind behind it. But its to late now.
I love StarField BUT it’s too PG13. I could let my 13-year-old kids play it and they will complain the Constellation members sound like us parents. 😂
They need to go back to Fallout 3 type of NPC interaction.
BUT this is the first game in the series. Let’s give it some time to simmer. Need more quests like they promise and more DLC to rebalance some of the base mechanics.
They can’t change Constellation, but could we get companions from other factions with questionable morales and grey back-story? I was expecting Shattered Space to add content for Andreja to flesh out her character and her world but nope. Hardly any new story.
New companions from the Crimson Fleet and Ryujin would have been wild!
Stupid individuals criticise starfield for having 1000 planets. And even criticise that companions don’t bow to them when they have their own opinions. And worse, criticise the game when they themselves are to cowardly to play it as they complain. And whine about a menu for planets within a system. Then stupid demand for a “pulse engine” “to get to the planet faster” wtf???
“Nothing new to see” – skill issue 😂🤣
If you gave starfield less than a 9/10, you need to seek therapy as there is something awefully wrong with your state of mind.
Literally everytime i think of giving this game a shot, i end up thinking no mans sky would be a better way to spend my time.
SF is heavy on the roleplaying where NS isnt, but if that were the case, why spend sooooo much time on developing the ability to present 1000 planets without actually giving them any real character or purpose?
The core of SF was always entriging to me. T
Its the vastness of it that turns me off every time
Wow, someone making a video about Starfield without calling it garbage every single chance they get? What a special surprise, especially considering I’ve been playing it again because of Oblivion Remastered and have fallen in love all over again.
Play SPACEBOURNE 😂
I read the title as (and Sheltered Space), hehehe
I really don’t understand where all the hate is coming from. I am having a blast with this one.
Imagine if this game had fuel, and you could run out of fuel, and have to build the settlements and look for resources to build the settlements, and eventually reach the point of getting fuel from a pump or whatever, and overtime you build these settlements where you run out of fuel making a chain of gas stations to travel around. This would make the game feel fuller by making you break from the quests, also I would remove fast travel fully. You have to move to where you wanna go and stick it out to the end. This would make the game feel so much more rewarding, and expand the non existent exploration. Why should I go to an empty flat planet…. Cause I need fuel and I need food.
Wide as an ocean, deep as a puddle. The paradigm many modern big budget developers use as their design philosophy. It almost always leads to a weaker gaming experience.
Starfield desperately needs more DLCs. Free and paid IF the paid DLCs offer tons of great needed content etc.
This game has gotten way too much hate and the regurgitated “Starfield bad” narrative almost two years later is laughable. This review is pretty fair from what I’ve seen so far, which is nice.
No, the game is definitely not perfect, but man it has a lot to offer if you’re into space games, particularly ones that are in a more “sci” and less “fi” setting/aesthetic. There a things i wish the game did better, but it doesn’t need to be perfect for me to love it. As someone who has played BGS games since Oblivion and has loved every one, Starfield may be my favorite overall!
I will never understand the slack yall cut Bethesda. You criticize several of their stuff like the lack of animations during cutscenes and loading screens, say that perhaps its to be expected due to how the game is, then immediately name games like the witch or no mans sky that do those things extremely well directly after. Especially the loading screen thing as NMS uses procedural generation too, so the “inevitable” nature of procedural generation creating loading screens obviously isn’t required.
It’s shit 😂
I got Starfieid a couple of months after release, put about 50 hours in, and haven’t touched it since. I expected Bethesda to listen to players and eventually turn this game around, but nothing I’ve seen made me want to return. I’m serious when I say this is one of the most boring games I’ve played. Too much copy/paste buildings, boring “loot”, vendors with low amounts of cash, “license” to sell a ship so you get basically no cash for it, awful progression system, awful companions. My biggest gripe would be that everything I did felt kind of pointless to where I completely stopped engaging in things like base building. I still keep hoping that they’ll turn it around, but it’s not looking likely at this point.
29:41 what’s the game here?
SF was a W from the beginning. A quality space sandbox game was exactly what I THOUGHT I wanted. The more you play the more overwhelmed or entrenched you become. Took a 6 month break from it thinking it would reignite that passion for it. But I’m just waiting for the next update. It needs a big kick in the ass and I’ll probably end up hooked for months and months again
@nisimensitrea the game had 10 million players in the first week, what are you talking about? is a single player game, not a live service game that wants people to play everyday 😅
i dont like, is empty game 🤷
I tried to like it and just didn’t care about any of it. Partly a me thing, as space is just so dull, but I couldn’t care about any of it and stopped early on, twice. It seems utterly charmless and ….. boring. Like space always is.
You start as a miner – what is more dull than laser mining? How long before we can ditch the interminably dull concept of laser-mining? Especially in a futuristic mechanised automated AI future? And when might employment contracts ever change huh? We can traverse the stars but still gotta work at that cr@ppy job, right? For the man, right? Sheesh. So I can earn me some Credz, I suppose.
The first firefight, oh, this could be any of a hundred mediocre shooters. Nothing interesting or novel at all. Your first mission visiting a planet, a crummy landscape with some stupid and unlikely creatures to reach some empty uninteresting cookie-cutter sci- place. This is the latest and greatest? Oh dear.
I’m doubtless jaded after forty years of this stuff (!) but, really, can’t we do better? Yes, we can – there are plenty of much better titles out there more deserving of cash than this example of the sunk-cost fallacy.
look at all these copy paste shill posts, ya’ll are coping haard.
I finally decided to give it another chance and I’m glad I did.
Love Starfield. I finally started my first NG plus. The Ng plus mechanic is really cool …looking forward to taking my time through this play through
Instead of 1000 planets, just 500. Main story takes places just in 20% of the systems. The rest should’ve been colonization radiant missions like the settlements in FO4. First act you start in the solar system (or other main hub system) + some nearby systems. And in other acts you expand it. All handcrafted. The rest 80% can be then generated and optional for radiant quests. Earth could’ve been more of a legend like in The Foundation and you have a whole long questline to find it or prohibited like in Schismatrix and you have to find a way to find it/land there. For the vehicles, just imagine a Mad Max chase mission on a desert planet lol
Starfield was built from the ground up incorrectly. It should have been focused on 1 solar system(the sol system) with the focus on hand crafted interesting locations on the 8 planets and numerous moons in the sol system, a main story within that system exploring what happened to earth and the purpose for leaving it as well as the progression of technology and how it could have destroyed humanity, and the ability to fly your ship seamlessly within that solar system. I understand loading screens from planet to space. But the inability to fly from one planet to another is a crime and what most people were expecting. The end game should have been getting the grav drive to leave that solar system and from there is where the procedural generation should have come in. Then they could have added to the game from there. Also on planets, if your going to add a tile system, they should all be connected and you should be able to load the adjacent tile while on planet when you get to the edge of a tile. And lastly, if your going to add a load screen for space travel, for god sake make it immersive like your traveling through a wormhole in starwars from the viewpoint your flying in.
The game gets immediately better with Skyrim music
I think if they wanted to do the “Bethesda RPG” in space, it should be locked to a single solar system. Even if you hate the ES games, there’s so much things going on. There’s no way that can transfer into a game with dozens of planets
This dude is a meta bot with no free thinking , comparing balders gate to star field , balders gate is shit compared to Star field. You can’t build a ship or bases or join factions and level them up can’t hack computers can’t sneak . What a pathetic video 😂😂game
This is my favourite Bethesda game and probably game I’ve enjoyed the most in the last 2-3 years. Modded to my liking with 140 mods and I’m having a blast in 2025.
I choose to focus on the fact that it has huge potential… huge.
Heyyyy. Guys. I just want to say. IV. GOT THE MANTIS. SHIP. AND ARMOUR. ,,,, it was an easy mission. NO BIG DEAL , ,,,,,like taking candy. From a baby. ,,,,😊😊😊😊😊😊😊
It really is a shame because its like Destiny, i should love everything about it, but they of course managed to mess it up somehow. The aesthetic is peak, i like the graphics, but everything is sadly meh. I cant bring myself to buy it and mod it on steam vs just finishing my gamepass playthrough unmodded
Starfield is the epitome of “a mile wide an inch deep” everything in the game just lacked depth. Lots of weapons but non interesting, cool build up of a story with no relief, thousands of planets but all are copy paste, hundreds of perks and skills but all are just stat increases etc etc. it’s so cool for the first couple hours until you realize that once you’ve leveled up a couple times and explored a couple planets you’ve pretty much played the whole game.
I loved starfield
I understand your take on nothing impacting the greater world, but I mean if my CEO died today someone else would just take his place tomorrow and I’d still go to work. Wouldn’t affect my life in the slightest.
The traverse is why I will ultimately stop playing everything feels like it take forever oxylevels, open this screen then this screen to go there. Then go there. I can’t get passed it. I don’t even want to explore, even though the game is massive because of this. Never played a open world where I feel like I can’t explore.
One thing that bugs me that I don’t hear many people talking about is how the game just throws credits at you to the point money becomes meaningless. And if you think about it, it discourages you from engaging with the world. What’s the point of doing jobs or bounties or mining or crafting or pirating if you already have more money that you could spend?
Man you know the main main let down for me in this game was the neglect to any grit or grime that real people deal with…I’m talking about not hearing any cuss words like at all…There is suppose to be drug use and you never see one person using drugs , even in the club in Neon you still dont see anything of the sort…It just seems like they went totally pussified with this one. I wanted to love this game and actually did until all the cracks and loading screens. (edit) they also need to handcraft about 200 more POI’s to throw into the mix
If you want a great immersive feel to the game? Turn the game music of and play Spotify with 70s music trust me it’s awesome
I enjoyed Starfield and it’s shattered space expansion. Wish there was more zero g areas in the game.
Thank you for this! Finally, someone pointing out the games flaws and NOT just concluding that the whole thing is garbage. Typical gamer: “too many loading screens?? Worst game ever!!” Yeah it’s frustrating, but there are things to enjoy, enough to actually keep playing the game.
Starfield is one of my favourite games of all time due to the very high highs. I agree with most of your points though, great video. I always play solo without companions (the way I love to play RPGs) so I dont experience every lows with them.
Trying to improve Starfield would be like putting high-performance tires on a broken-down jalopy. It was a misfire – Bethesda shouldn’t waste any more resources on it.
The problems I had with Starfield was that it made me wanna play Fallout 4 but the moment that broke my interest was when I realised the “randomised” area on the planets had the same buildings copy pasted. Two buildings, different areas (same planet) 1:1 copy. Everything was exactly the same.
I tried to play and like Starfield, but it was not possible. I found this game terribly bland, from the space flights to the NPCs and planets and moons, almost all completely empty with nothing to do apart from shooting some enemies sometimes and take some item to bring it to an NPC, and so on.
As someone coming from Elite Dangerous, Starfield is everything I wanted the Odyssey update to be. This is the closest anyone has come to my ideal space game, and I’m willing to put up with a lot of minor things for that.
also why in the world are there no like alien enemies like barely any alien enemies This is what like ruined it for me too if you have freaking cosmic superpowers why would aliens be far-fetched😂
The fact this game had no maps at first had me wandering around the cities trying to actually remember where shops and stuff were I instantly hated it and I’m a huge Bethesda fan playing Oblivion now it’s amazing just as amazing as it was when I was a kid I love fallout 3 I love fallout New Vegas, starfield was just such a disappointment to me😢 I could even deal with the loading screens if it wasn’t for every planet being repetitive or empty they should have focused on handcrafted content, not a thousand planets. I could have even dealt with not having the Rover since a lot of the areas are like fish bowls and not that big to explore and there’s nothing really out there. As long as there was handcrafted content like in fallout especially, this game could have been so good That’s what made me so upset😂 and what drew the line for me was it being locked at 30fps, most gamers even us console gamers Play on computer monitors they are better for gaming period, I think for PS5 and the series X generation every game should have been minimum 60 FPS I mean we’ve had 60 FPS since 2018😂 if war zone can handle 150 players and call of duty is the most unoptimized game in the world and I can hit 120 FPS no problem 120 FPS on Fortnite a single player game like starfield should have easily been 60 FPS, especially when I have 165 Hertz monitor when you play it lower frame rates on higher end monitors they perform much worse because they’re not built for those low frame rates so it hurts my eyes even more I couldn’t do it haven’t touched the game since it launched unfortunately and that’s sad 🥺
Starfields biggest let down for me is having new game plus baked into the main plot and having almost zero player agency in the side quests
They should have still been in the war and factions should be exclusive… let the player break side quests because they can reset the galaxy
I disagree with your stance on pirates and spacers on va’runn’kai as since the experiment happened half of their population and infrastructure was destroyed. They wouldn’t have time or resources to secure their orbit much less their city.
I don’t like the fact that House Va’ruun doesn’t have a ship manufacturer or ship parts as then we have to ask how did they launch the serpents crusade for so long according to the lore
making games is just a job for these people. They don’t even play video games probably, they just make it and can’t wait to never touch it again in their lives. If it makes money, great. If it doesn’t, too bad, move onto the next project with little regard for legacy or reputation.
Alot of your beefs prior to 10 mins are limited to before you enter the unity for the 1st time. There’s also free mods that change how companions behave. Other than the things that fundamentally change after entering the unity this was a decently accurate. Once you enter the Unity the fun factor increased for me. Add in the updates and mods Starfield is a fun time. Today I finished the UC mission using just a blade and powers.😂
I’m not playing a game where everyone is bisexual.
This review sucks. The game was never going to perfect at launch or even after 18 months. Like Fallout, it’s going to be a lengthy project. Your issue is you can’t just enjoy the game. You have to come up with 50 minutes of nitpicky garbage.
I really expected them to improve the game like Cyberpunk or No Mans Sky or even Stalker did after launch. But here we are years later and all we got are some minor changes. It’s like they feel is good enough and moved on
The original sin of Starfield was the gigantic scope. There didn’t need to be 1000 planets. They should’ve focused on a single system with lots of handcrafted content, like 5-6 planets, a few moons, and some space habitats. Then they could’ve released an expansion that introduced a new system.
Best Starfield criticism I’ve heard because it’s constructive. Haven’t had that much fun scanning planets since Mass Effect 2.
Welcome back king!
Love it or hate, it Starfield is an accurate depiction of humans colonizing space would look like from an explorers perspective. For me, it is like firefly meets the expanse. You got a ship and a crew of various personalities with no particular direction. Like the series the ship becomes that home in the stars.
So basically, you’re mad that Starfield isn’t a live Dungeons & Dragons campaign run by a DM who tailors the entire universe around your every whim? Sounds like the issue isn’t the game — it’s that you’re trying to force a D&D-level roleplay sandbox into a video game made by actual humans with limitations. If you want infinite choices, real consequences, and deep roleplay, maybe it’s time to put down the controller and pick up some dice.
Um… more on this space batman. What is the name of the mission and where do I go to start it?
Its story is just so bad compared to oblivian or even skyrim. Find a rock, get a huge starship? Is that really the very best start they could start with. The another life mod for skyrim has more exciting starts than bethesda pulled off here. Loading screens. Average shooting. Lame exploration. I do see that at some point just the player agency and rpg elements could make it fun… but for me it feels as souless as just about any Aaa game ive played.
Starfield is a death by a thousand cuts. There is definitely fun to be had, I was doing a new playthrough when Oblivion RM dropped and the difference is night and day.
Much of what makes a good Bethesda game is still there with Starfield, but instead of one big open world up explore it’s more like moving between a bunch of scattered little islands. Funny enough, how The Outer Worlds did planet exploration would have worked far better.
“Hello! What’s your name? Oh! Do be careful not to step in my intestines! They appear to have fallen out of me! Well I suppose it’s this ghastly wound in my belly! Anyway, pull up a chair and tell me all about yourself and I’ll make us a cup of tea!”
Starfield is terrible. Easily the worst game Bethesda has ever made, and possibly one of the worst games ever made.
The biggest issues that I have with Starfield, and, to be honest, with any BSG game since Oblivion is incredibly shallow writing where maximum depth of story is “Oh, look, this definitely non-fighters guild are actually Werewolves! Are they evil or good?” with no real difference or payoff or consequences for choices made by players. Or with party members that have pretty much same level of complexity as party from Final Fantasy 2 where one of party members is defined by single sentence – “Guy Speaks Beaver”. For me this – the writing and lack of reaction from game to my actions past most basic things like “Start killing people for no reason” is what kills Starfield.
And unfortunately for many people who like to say something about Creation Engine – no, this issue has NOTHING to do with the engine. In fact – I can lead people to a fanmade game that runs on Skyrim’s version of engine and does it really well, that doesn’t have such problems – that would be Enderal. Enderal tells very dark and interesting, but most importantly, deep story with great characters and it pretty much changes one thing – writing. Bethesda needs a team of writers that are not afraid of making story that is not super-safe, writers that can create consistant narrative, that doesn’t feel like it was made by 11-year old kid, and team of writers that can make likeable and compassionable characters.
I legitimately don’t remember a single character of Starfield, Fallout 4 or even Skyrim that I would call interesting or likeable.
In comparison, from Enderal – choice between Jespar and Calia, or even story about black stones – those things are very well done and don’t even rely on something completely unavailable to Bethesda. And I am not gonna say how bad Starfield’s party member look in comparison to party members from, for example, Baldur’s Gate 3, because in Baldur’s Gate 3 party dynamics is a half of the game’s charm and it has nothing to do with the engine – nothing of what makes Baldur’s Gate 3, or Metaphor ReFantazio or Cyberpunk 2077, or Clair Obscur Expedition 33, or Lost Odyssey, or Breath of Fire IV or any other RPG stand out for me as great is engine-related. Hell, Breath of Fire IV is a Playstation 1-era game and it has some impressive for the time directional moves that feel very masterful even today and this game is 25 years old. All of their greatness works because writers managed to make great stories.
bought it on launch. played it for 50hrs and finished most of the campaign and did a lot of side content. the loading screens were terrible. the terrible companions annoyed me. the RED MILE was garbage… the cyberrunning questline was unrewarding. the settlements on various worlds had pretty much the same layouts. no choices you made really mattered. there are so many better choices in role playing games…. this game is mid at best.
Why would a ceo of a company dying cause the company to crumble? That’s not how companies work…. If that were the case united healthcare would have crumbled lol
Great review! I thought both your criticisms & praise was fair.
I really hope BGS do a full Cyberpunk 2.0 / NMS overhaul! – but given the bare minimum of Shattered Space (where they didn’t even add new ship parts or new full companions/ romance options) – I doubt they will sadly. I hope I’m wrong.
starfield does not need a single sequel they should just segregate a team to only do starfield as they did with 76 starfield is already way too big with no substance a sequel wont do anything for it
The biggest shame about this game… It’s not that it’s not perfect, but that it was done by an American company. If it was an English or European company, they would have continued working on it. But American game companies seem to drop games once released.
3:45 wow groundbreaking 😂❤
If you truly wanted to role-play as a woman and any Bethesda game, you should be putting all your points in the speechcraft agility and you should be able to hire men to do all the work for you. Maybe make some money late at night being a streetwalker. There should be female choices for women. They should be able to carry out their fantasies in the game.
I absolutely LOVE the game. All time favorite. But I do share a lot of your sentiments.
I think the most important thing that you need to realize is that when women talk to men like they are men, they don’t get any help and they just grow up, sad and lonely. That should be one of the main reasons Bethesda implements feminine women into their game. So you don’t have a bunch of lonely old women with osteoporosis with no help whatsoever.
The problem with Bethesda is that the women are too manly. I get it in the first couple of games. All the women were voiced by Grandma for the most part or an older woman, there’s not really much femininity there anymore. But they’ve leaned even more into the manly woman vibe. And anytime a woman’s ever asked me to do something. They better do it nicely and they better ask. Not tell me like a man giving me orders. Part of it is bethesda’s archaic design choices. Some of it might be the green hairs that work at Bethesda now.
I really like it but I think they are going to abandon it.
Why you say? No more updates and very little communication, and they are concentrating on remaking old games.
You know what’s going to be the reality of the situation here soon. These women that want to be men they’re going to start getting treated like men. Then your video game fantasy is over.
A part of me loves Starfield.. for what it could have been, for the underlying passion behind why it came about – clearly Todd Howard loves space games, and wanted to create something truly special. I hope BGS don’t abandon Starfield, I hope they add more and more hand crafted content in that makes exploration genuinely exciting. I hope they embed some of the more immersive mods like seamless jump travel, time in hyperspace where you can wander around your ship and talk to crew or craft, some genuine costs like fuel and repairs, that make travel meaningful not a load screen away from everywhere instantly. I hope they figure out with any further DLC how to make it a bit edgy, to make some people truly evil and bad, for you to close off avenues if you make one decision that fuels replayability and uncertainty as to consequences. Starfield largely has none of those things, that’s why it has only 3k players right now.. it was great fun for a one-off play through, but lacks longevity.
Finished it! and now subscribed 🙂
I think I’m starting to realize the problem with a lot of men nowadays that they’ve played Bethesda games and I guess it’s a fantasy to get bossed around by women when the reality of the situation is if you allow yourself to get bossed around by women, you’re weak and women don’t want anything to do with you. And I don’t know. However, taking orders from a black lady would be a fantasy. That’s more like a nightmare. If these things are a fantasy, you have some serious problems. it all stems from Todd being a tiny man.
Bethesda thinks I’m ever going to be taking orders from a black lady. No, we’ll just forever be at odds. That’s the reality of the situation. I would just walk away and ignore her big mouth. You know what I’m saying.
See the story becomes disjointed when you first start the game because that Asian lady she would not be bossing me around. She would become attracted to me immediately because I’m a white guy and she would get on her knees and I’ll be bossing her around. That’s the problem with starfield.
Great work on this review. Starfield has so much potential, so many hits and so many misses. I fear there won’t be a sequel because it’s popular to hate on it. Also, why build a new game if you can just release a remaster and make more revenue? Personally I’m having a blast with the Genesis conversion mod. It’s the closest I got to getting immersed in an open-world Star Wars universe.
I get the impression Bethesda just thought whatever they did would be brilliant. Which, obviously is not the case. It’s not as bad a game as many people say, but it’s certainly not a great game. It’s a 6 or 7/10. Which isn’t awful but I doubt I’ll play it again. They don’t have their best writers who wrote the interesting Elder Scrolls lore, they left years ago. And it shows.
I found the companions to be really abrasive. They started literally shouting, swearing at me, for something I didn’t even do. I have actual real trauma from family members yelling at me for things I didn’t do. I don’t need the companions in my games to do that, thank you very much.
I am half way through this video and it is the best breakdown of this game I have ever watched. Great work!
Aircraft Spotted: Boeing 747, Dehavilland DHC-2.
Well todd did say the game wasnt fun till 2021 so can’t believe what they had previously

Loved Starfield since launch day
I gave this a listen all the way through, giving the benefit of the doubt. All I get from this is that you want a game they didn’t make. If it were what you want, I wouldn’t play it. I pretty much disagree with all of your takes, but unlike the tone of this video, you are welcome to have these takes. You come off as if your opinion is fact and we are idiots if we like it as is. You should really consider that you could be wrong. The game was made for my demographic. I’ve put almost $300 into paid mods. It is a base for mods. Mods are part of the formula, and a review of a Bethesda title has to consider them or isn’t complete. I purposely waited a year to even play it because of this. I have serious complaints about the game, but they aren’t about the game proper, but technical and execution.
i would say that, also having played it for hundreds of hours, the vast majority of Starfield’s issues stem from the core design decision to make this an open universe game with procedurally generated environments. It’s an extremely hard thing to get right, and Bethesda has never managed to do it, even since the days of Arena and Daggerfall. As you said, it’s frustrating because it’s not a bad game and there’s so much in it that’s genuinely great. Yet that core design decision not only massively impacts how you play the game, but isn’t one that can be fixed at all. At its core, Starfield is a flawed game, that shot for the stars and once in orbit, realized they didn’t have enough oxygen to sustain an overly ambitious mission.
Well personally the Ryujin mission is some of my favorite moment of the game so you see not everyone agrees with you on this part. I actually found the second half of it with the stealth missions and the conspiracy/backstabbing really engaging, it’s only the first half that i find really dull, i actually really loved the stealth missions and the fact that entire missions where designed specifically for it, it was really refreshing.
And having corporate espionnage stuff in a sci fi Cyberpunk city is perfectly normal even if it remind you of your daily life.
Starfield is my Dim DJarin simulator and I quite like it like that tbh
Game full of side quests with mid stories. Poor step up, poor continuity and lack of explanation. Eight years development.
I honestly enjoyed it, BUT the games it’s crazy expensive for what it offers, more as a Mexican person, that’s crazy money for a game so empty and big, but sometimes it can be enjoyable.
So much review bombing and fake reviews over the last 18 months… heres another trash review rehashing the same old same old bs.
Ewww a pulse engine like NMS??? Ewww 🤢🤮🤮🤮
Kid, if you’re not ai bot, the 1692 planets in Starfield are the equivalent of the 300 or so dungeons in your skyrim.
8:27 I did that specific mission without shooting my gun once. Especially when you reach the final part you can talk to dude and no one has to die.
Starfield was the first Bethesda game where I did a whole two hours of questing and didn’t fire my gun once.
9:10 you can just find gear with name tags and again, do the whole mission without shooting a single soul. I get the EM weapons have little effect, but you’re trying to knock out the guy who controls a checkpoint, I would hope everyone is alerted that a checkpoint guard, on camera, is shot at by an EM weapon. Like cmon bro, I didn’t look up a guide to do a pacifist quest line, they literally tell you how to avoid a fight.
I will standby the fact that if there was a ps5 port, I’d play this game religiously. It seems like a game that you can just chill with
You expect to get an Elite dangerous experience, but instead you get a bigger Skyrim with less to do
It’s clear they abandoned the game. Outsourced updated to creation club
I loved the game so much until shattered space released and then I just completely turned on it. Starfield felt new but shattered space was comparable to Dragonborn and far harbor and was just so much worse than those on every single metric. Dungeon and quest design, open world space, new weapons and aspirational content, even side characters just all far worse than Skyrim and fallout 4. The base game had soooo much potential and I hope it gets a 2.0 but that expansion is a stain on Bethesda’s portfolio and the worst thing they have ever made.
The game is great until you realise quite how shallow the whole thing is. There’s only a few repeating POIs plastered across the planets. Persuasion is all Random generic lines. Outposts have no greater purpose than resource generation. The universe change is limited to one room and a handful of people, not even the factions you can join change. No unique weapons/Ship parts. No companions outside of constellation members and no evil ones. The “expansion” repeated all of these bar the handmade map. There’s a dozen other points I could make but you get the gist haha. Great vid tho!
I enjoy the game still. It is an explorers dream come true and I am not locked into going this way or that, I can do what I want when I want. I suppose it isn’t for everyone but I am glad I did not listen to channels like this to make my decision.
this game sucks ass
Covid era millennial writers was Starfield doom
Yeah, it’s the colony ship mission which made me give up. Aside from the same assets used on the ship, the choices we get to complete the mission aren’t anything I’d choose to complete the mission. We’re teased that we could help the crew invade the nearby planet and take it. But you don’t get to do that. You’re made to side with the scumbag corporation on the nearby planet. I have no idea why.
Crazy the corpo missions was the most fun I had in the game just get good
For this to actually work, the points of interests would need to be randomly generated.
Guard has the key card for some other area.
Ok let’s try persuasion.
“I need you to give me your key card.”
*Critical success
“Ok here.”
Done. The quest was done and I was done.
been a while Twin Sticks glad you are back
Shitting on Starfield while praising Skyrim and Fallout 4 mediocre features is INSANE
Another Starfield review complaining it is not designed like their favorite Theme park MMO. Sorry you are not adding anything new.
