Bethesda didnt release this dlc bc of great storytelling or a desire to bring in new players. No Bethesda sought a easy cash grab and the asking price of half original game is just beyond insulting but 1000% Bethesda. How many people who bought Starfield have Skyrim or Fallout in their library, not many. In fact Fallout 4 and Skyrim are easily better fucking games that are a decade to two decades old. But since Bethesda has now monopolized mods theres really no interest in Starfield except for a few dedicated modders. I do have to immediately disagree. Starfield non hand crafted environments looks like empty nothing. Not fit for much beyond high perspective or horizon screenshots. It looks, to me, only comfortable to no man’s sky while being a game that doesn’t have 10 quadrillion or whatever planets to excuse some sameyness.

To this day, no one has yet played Shattered Space to its fullest. Just about every person I have seen do walkthroughs have all stuck to the city and the quest locations.
They then complain about it when there is so much more to it.
One such thing is the fact that you can land anywhere on the planet.
Players who start shattered space only land at the city and have yet to land in other locations and haven’t found all the secrets in other locations on the planet.
Also, no one goes to all the other planets and moons in the Va’ruun solar system and find what those locations offer.
Not to mention the fact that during new game plus, the shattered space story and quests change just like they do in the Starfield game.
So unless someone has done all this and the many other things that Shattered Space has to offer, then they really haven’t seen Shattered Space or truly beat it.
They only made it through the waiting room and didn’t get to the core content.
There is even a huge amount of quests that are hidden, and you have to stumble upon them by exploring the planet and are not just going to be handed to you.

When StarFailed released – I bought a Valheim hoodie and mug which cost me roughly, the price of Starfield. As I’m drinking tea out of this mug right now – zero regrets. Tbh glad I waited for some reviews before buying this dlc. Starfield may have been free but my time isn’t. Even at the price of zero dollars I couldn’t finish it. The game just isn’t interesting. The crimson fleet quest and ship building was the most fun I had.

This is the Worst Thing about Starfield that I ever encountered in a Bethesda game and is a prime example of it’s downfall.
I tried to do the Crimson Fleet faction quest, Rook meets King quest.
I was lvl 25 and during the 1st spaceship battle of this quest. I got slaughtered.
My ship /stats were under powered, so I had to escape.
(I spent the next 100 levels improving my ship/stats for this quest.)
Now, I was ready to take on the Rook Meets King quest with much earned anticipation/enthusiasm.
But NO, I couldn’t reactive the quest. No matter what I tried.
Every time I went to the quest location nothing happened…
I had no previous saves to load as Bethesda’s suggested fix.
(It was a game breaking quest that many players complained about!)
I had to restart the game, like I did for both Oblivion and Skyrim.
But even that, didn’t bother me, I’m so used to it!
What I couldn’t get used to, was having to sit through the Helpful Hint, Load Screen, informing me, that I can leave any ship battle and return to the quest at any time!
Getting that constant reminder of this blatant LIE shoved in my face! Just like this game!
Being ANGRY/SAD at the same time, every time I see it!
Bethesda, why have you forsaken us life long fans? 🤔

A lot of the issues with Starfield are things Skyrim also does poorly, and I think Bethesda doesn’t understand that those issues aren’t okay 10+ years later. Further, anything unique to Starfield isn’t great. The random planets might as well not even be there. Base building has no point at all.

There is a fundamental disconnect in the creative team at Bethesda Studios between what they think is great gaming, and what the rest of the AAA industry and gamers at large think. CDPR? They listened to the gaming public, after probably THE worst launch of a game of all time. But they buckled down and redeemed themselves (mostly). Bethesda seems content with remaining in their own echo chamber, sniffing their own farts, and believing that these gilded turds are actually gold.

Bathesda acts like they can do no wrong but relies entirely on the modding community for their games to have any kind of longevity.

Bethesda have lost the plot completely. It’s like their games are now designed by executives who never play games and think that gamers are children. That if they put apostophes in names, that sounds spacey. That running around shooting pirates in a building is just fantastic and getting down with the kidz.

Starfield makes more sense as a parody of Bethesdas games of 10+ years ago, than an actual attempt to make a captivating , next gen game in 2024. I spend 7142 hours on Fallout 4 and 3.338 hours on Skyrim.

So far I used 761 on Starfield.
And why did I do that? Because I simply couldn’t believe the game was so empty and boring. Shattered Space is at least custom material, a tad better.
But Bethesda has disappointed me so much with Starfield. I am completely frustrated and shocked. I was hoping Starfield would be my game for the next many years to come. But I just can’t find what I was hoping for in Starfield. It feels like a scraped game rushed into release before if was polished and finished. It’s much WORSE than Skyrim and Fallout 4.
After about 300 hours I finally gave up finding the things I wanted to fight for/play for. Now I just play when I am absolutely bored and don’t feel like playing anything else.

After Mass Effect, Star Wars Jedi, Baldur’s Gate 3, Cyberpunk 2077, Horizon Zero Dawn etc. I was convinced Bethesda would create something really big and really good. Og, boy was I wrong. And it kinda hurts.

I’ve always thought that every BGS game would have looked a lot better if they didn’t use such a crap engine compared to whatever what’s current at the time. Every game, every time – always held back by gambryo regardless of whatever improvements BGS made.

I have no interest in this dlc, or ever replaying this game. My characters story is over, he solved the mystery, he helped everyone he could, then he reached enlightenment and left behind those he loves. Wandering around other universes to re-solve a mystery or fart around in a planet that wasn’t even in his original timeline is a waste of time

It seems Bethesda heard the complaints about lack luster dialog in the game and decided they would give more dialog…just in the wrong way! I think the vast majority of people wanting better/more dialog are wanting more conversationability ongoing…not all at once in a long drawn out monolog. When I talk to recruited crew most have interesting back stories, but they are short and in NG+ all the same. Same with the main companions. When people complained about dialog with those it wasn’t to have it all in one drop, but spread out. Maybe we wouldn’t get to it all in a single play, but there would be something new there in NG+. But that takes the ability to think through things and it has become obvious that Bethesda itself has become dumbed down.
I was planning to play Shattered Space but $30, no. Then to hear the poor reviews…OH HELL NO!
I am no longer excited about ES6.

We need to pressure Microsoft into firing Emil Pagliarulo. This failure of the dlc brings dread to the hopes of Elder Scrolls 6. And knowing how full of himself Emil is, he’ll likely make the future games stories worse out of spite. Spam demands for his firing to Microsoft, Mass refund Starfield, review bomb it until no one buys it and we might see this done.

Bethesda’s approach to writing is so hackneyed it’s painful, especially when it comes to protagonists/player characters. “Space Jesus” is very apt, and the same issue applies to all their games. Player characters are always this contrived messianic pivotal force around whom all else orbits, be it events, other characters, factions, even abstractions like fate/destiny.

This is amateurish garbage writing for simpletons. I don’t care what anyone else has to say as an excuse for this, even less so if they try to play the whole “subjectivity” angle like it’s a get out of jail free card for objectively bad craftmanship. Writing is an artform, art is subjective, but that doesn’t mean there aren’t rules and a spectrum of quality that correlates with mastery. It’s still a craft. If you understand the concept of literacy, then you already concede the point of objective metrics upon which quality is measured, whether you understand or acknowledge your concession or not. That extends to higher level concepts like narrative structure.

I spent 100hrs trying to find the fun in this game. Came up empty.

I played through it twice I have to say it makes more sense with a high lvl character because u indeed find much better and unique gear. But overall it wasn’t anything that exiting new. Andreja has some extra dialogue but nothing space shattering.

FO4 and Skyrim with mods are all i require from Bugthesda. They can ride off into the sunset now.

Well, when it comes to the writing only… Oblivion & Skyrim were yet duller & duller compared to Morrowind IMO ( yeah I am a 45 yo dude )

I don’t even think Far Harbour was so good. To me, Bethesda’s games since Morrowind have been mainly fun beacause of their creation kits, more than because of the games itselves ( or at least their lore and writing ). Always visiting the same greyish caves and dungeons with the same ennemies in Skyrim also was yet borrying to be fair. For Starfield, the Creation Kit came a lot too late ; I mean, I have been spending more time to create stuff with various modding community tools such as SF1Edit than to play the game, but I was always stuck at some point and not able really to make a descent “finalized” mod as I wished ( because of materials ID and various other issues ) ; now the editor is out, I did not even came back to try it nor that DLC…

To come back to the writing alone, with Starfield, we’ve fallen so abyssally low, I can’t even imagine we could go even lower in a further Bethesda’s game ??
I mean, I had some fun with some missions in vanilla Starfield game, and even with some explorations or workshop / CAMP building ( or name it whatever you want, it’s kind of always the same game since FO4 in da end except for the procedural aspect ) , and it’s not that aweful globally… However, there are some times with the writing not ever more trying to look like in any way a bit credible, and of course, also, much more times than in previous games when you find it borrying and wonder why the hell you’re still playing it…

Finally, as you said : Why the hell would we be the only people in this HUGE UNIVERSE full of industrialized giant outposts using far away heavy hardwares to use a ground vehicle ? Why are’nt there any roads ? Nor other kind of flying or even hovering vehicles ? Nor even boats ? Because you were intended to be a barbarian walking in a fantasy world, but then they named it a Sci-Fi game and added guns. Not even sci-fi guns, just guns, mainly. Now, I think Elder Scroll 6 will not only be on NIRN but also on many other planets ! Huh , not happy ?

The Witcher 3 really should have been an eye opener for Bethesda, especially since it directly competed with FO4. BG3 should be another since it directly competed with Starfield. And yet they will learn from neither.

Bethesda needs to hire a fresh brained game design lead who is willing and able to rip things up and build from the ground up.

They also need a widely beloved author (someone along the lines of Neil Gaiman) to come in and spend 2 years writing a complex and twisting narrative with a much more in depth system of morality and choice making.

They need to make the game map of their next game smaller than all of their other games. I’d love a game set in a single city where every character is fleshed out, every side quest is meaningful, etc.

I know they won’t do that, but they NEED to limit scope and build handcrafted environments. Give me 20-30 hours of interesting, thought provoking content over 100+ hours of grey slop any day of the week.

The only way to save this game is to completely rework every sidequest in the game. One of the biggest reasons the loading screen is a issue is biggest literally every quest is the game is too short and require you to jump around all over the place in space just to maybe talk to someone for 5 seconds and then go all the way back. The quest really should’ve taken advantage of the planet they were on instead of 4 second on this planet, leave go here talk to guy, leave and go back. The redline quest should’ve been more like the running man movie with Arnold than whatever the hell it was a simple arena questline like kotor not randomly generated monsters and mines. Also make the universe more interesting add like mutated humans into the society’s like maybe give the snake people actual snake like features idk because right now the universe is boring. And why don’t the Neon guards have any sort of sidequest, neon should’ve been used wayyyyy more than it was.

Bethesda has been headed downward for years now they keep dumbing down their games to the point where they arent even rpgs anymore. Fallout 4 was the biggest leap in that direction and even they were like ok we gotta go back a bit.

I understand this game has many flaws but I cannot help but just absolutely love it. And with all the potential still there for growth I hope Bethesda gets it together

I’ve never played Elder Scrolls before… I have been hearing for years and years that it’s a fantastic game and just does not age. It’s also a very old game, and we’ve yet to see a sequel to it. We all know Bethesda has started work on Elder Scrolls IV, and I feel bad for the fans that look forward to it. Bethesda has simply turned into a laughing stock for the industry.

After playing starfield i bought and finished Cyberpunk and it was a complete mindfuck. The complete difference in engine and art direction is quite harrowing. Bethesda is one foot in the grave. They need to make a new engine and hire some good writers.

As someone who *cough cough* bought the constellation Edition,( I know I know, insert laughter here), I have no desire to even try to download this expansion and play again. I think I would much rather spend my time modding the Elder Scrolls 3 Morrowind and playing through as a kajit this time.

I made it 80 hours into Starfield and was bored to tears. I even spent the extra money to get the “extra” content. That was a complete waste of money. I LOVED all the big elder scroll titles since Arena and the 8 3.5 floppy discs that you needed to install it. The little side games that they made were not nearly as fun.

I loved Fallout 3 and New Vegas. FO4 is a fun game and I have serious hours invested into it, the game could have been better.

I played about 70 hours of Starfield on release and I could never quite identify what bothered me so much about the characters in this game, and after 3:55 I realized what it was; these characters read like self-inserts of the bland corporate culture I can only imagine has burrowed into Bethesda like fly larvae. It’s like someone carrying the design document for this game bumped into recruiting from HR and all they’re paperwork got mixed (ironic that Starfield didn’t actually have one, go figure).

I hadn’t tried out the vehicle before the dlc and was not surprised to see that you land in dazra in a crater you can barely leave with the vehicle.
Then I played the main story of the dlc, was prepared for the second plot because of my decisions but the varuun people were like ” oh yeah that is what you did? Cool” and the quest ended 😂

I wanted something to get me back into Starfield because I really enjoyed the first play through. This won’t get me back in and I may only play it if it’s heavily discounted on steam.

Comparing Starfield to Cyberpunk is not a fair comparison. That’s like comparing a trash can to Mount Everest.
I prefer to judge Starfield on its own.
And on its own… it’s garbage. I keep trying to find SOME WAY to justify having spent money on it, but I’d much rather just go play anything else.

A companion having nothing to say about something that should be very important to them in a Bethesda game doesn’t surprise me. I still remember the first time I got sucked out of Skyrim – when you’re going to depose that first jarl, and during the attack on the city your companion has nothing to say even though we’re attacking her home town. Pulled me right out of it. Lazy design.

Man…I used to love Bethesda games. Morrowind, Oblivion, Fallout 3, NV (though Obsidian did that one), Fallout 4, Skyrim. I spent so much time enjoying these games again and again.

Time consuming yes difficult no. There are teams of three people making games that are vastly superior to bethesda’s latest offerings. Bethesda’s devs are so lazy that the launch version of starfield didn’t even have maps for their cities , something so basic and necessary. Everything and I do mean everything in Starfield is half assed. Even the camera when speaking with NPC is broken. Often times your follower won’t even be visible when commenting on dialogue with an npc the camera moves to where the should be but they are somewhere else on the map. Npc’s wont even turn around to face you when to talking to you. This is worse than their older games.

The fugly Gen-z nose-rings on all these characters with their androgenous looks are fully intact in the expansion; enjoy “modern audience”. No fkin thanks!

Phantom liberty is not a fair comparision becasuse the expenditure done on that expansion and 2.0 was genuinely massive, like the size of a game itself. That not to say it starfield is excused from sucking, just no point comparing it to cyberpunk.

Bethesda games are just a huge waste of potential now, this game looks really cool but that all, it just LOOKS cool which isn’t enough.

What is truly remarkable is Bethesda not even doing the very minimum of research to determine how their games/DLC will be received at the price point and content they provided. Instead some fools sitting around a table said “$30 sounds good!”. ChatGPT 3.5 could have given them better recommendations.

You guys always act so shocked. This is Bethesda. They have been terrible since Fallout 3, man. There is no surprise to be found here, and thus nothing new to be said. Move on.

Bethesda hasn’t released a decent game in 10+ years. So really nothing to be surprised here. On top of that now is owned by Microsoft, a company that keeps failing in the videogames department.

I don’t know what the FCUK people were expecting… its literally “a large chunk of the original game amputated to sell as a DLC” and people forget “that has to fit onto an Xbox.”

Can’t blame Bethesda, people, Microshaft is leading the dance now. Feel the ‘love’.

I technically already own this DLC because my dumbass bought the Deluxe Edition and still I can not be bothered to re-download let alone play this game again.

The problem is that most talent has left these AAA studios, and replaced with DEI hires.

Thanks Emil Pagliarulo for ruining Starfield. Your mediocre design totally killed this game and DLC. And seeing Bethesda won’t fire him, the ES6 will be most likely boring generic bullshit as well

Just like the once mighty Bioware, it appears that the beloved Bethesda that gave us Oblivion, Skyrim, Fallout 3 (and parts of Fallout 4), Morrowwind, etc., is now gone. Todd and Co. seem to only care about the monetization of their games now. That and making their games as safe and “modern audience” approved as possible. Another mighty developer bites the dust. I have zero faith in the Elder Scrolls 6.
