– Enemies will runaway constantly (Unlike in skyrim)
– Requires you to break every other aspect of the game to make it viable

It is kinda baffling to have support for unarmed combat but have it be so bad. Like, I dunno. Elden Ring technically lets you punch enemies, but like, it makes no pretenses that this is a good or viable idea. It just lets you swing your fists for immersion’s sake and also trying to beat god to death with your fists is about is effective as you might expect.

But Starfield has a whole skill tree for it and yet it just _sucks ass._

Tbf, I think not having unarmed combat be good is better for games in general because letting players opt out of equipment is always going to be difficult to balance and remove a significant gameplay element, but then just don’t give it a skill tree!

You can’t slice enemies in half in starfield.

The only glitch or exploit I was disappointed that they patched was not letting us steal the Constellation space suit from the basement at the start of the game… that sucked worse to me than not letting us steal all of the gear and credits from vendor chests.

I love what they were trying to do with Starfield, but…

Man, they really screwed up the fundamentals. The DLC doesn’t look very promising mechanics-wise, either.

Star Field is not a partfect game at all. However, a positive thing I can say is that the rewards for faction quests were usually awesome. The Star Eagle ship is one of the best mid-weights in the game, the UC quest gives you sick looking armor and a minigun, that one corporation basically gives you the ability to win persuasion checks automatically and a unique stealth suit. These rewards felt impactful compared to Skyrim or Fallout 4, where you basically just got some money, or were made a leader with no tangible benefits aside from getting procedurally generated fetch quests.

Love the content as always spiff but don’t waste your time with Starfield. That is such a boring recycled product. It’s a game that you instantaneously remember playing 20+ years ago. It’s the same design philosophy and mechanic implementation, regurgitated over and over and over.
A system that was fine for its time when games were at that standard to decades ago. But we have long surpassed that standard over the past decade, proven by competitors with lesser means that have far surpassed, Starfield in results.
Todd and the multi billion dollar company of Bethesda are continuing with the same pattern of the same design philosophy in the same mechanic implementation that is boring and outdated, and unbelievable from the same game engine that should no longer exist relying on modders to come in and remove or add content to make it enjoyable for those who stick around and excuse the bullshit results that the multi billion dollar company puts out.

Elder scrolls six will be more of the same shit unless Starfield fails epically, and the message is clearly sent by its own player Bass to wake the fuck up because this shit is not going to fly anymore. And the only way to do that is to make sure Starfield is getting no access to eyeballs and wallets . That’s when you see changes in making and priorities occurring. If that message isn’t sent loudly and clearly enough… It’s just gonna be more of the same disappointment.

Not gonna lie, when i learned the vendor chest exploits were patched, i uninstalled the game from my xbox. There’s nothing here to explore

Hey @thespiffingbrit — here’s a Starfield challenge for you. Make a character with the empath trait, take on Sarah Morgan as a follower, and do some full faction quest. This whole time, trigger the “Sarah Morgan dislikes that” event as many times as possible — which I learned as an empath, gives you debuffs, which are stackable if she disapproves of multiple things. Try the Ryujin faction. She’ll disapprove of quite a lot. But here’s where it’s really a challenge. It’s like stringing someone along. You have to get her to dislike virtually everything you do without actually quitting as a follower. Oh, and here’s a bonus. One of the Ryujin main NPCs is a tea drinker and hates coffee.

So, Todd made an entire skill tree for fisticuffs. But the only way to do more damage is to power attack and eventually discover a glitch to make you power attack faster. Games from 2003 have better unarmed mechanics. Where- oh, if you fight demons with no weapon as an acolyte of the Church, you do more damage. Enough damage for a viable build, because a mace would be too slow and a good mace would need a high level. So you just punch the heck out of small demons. And when you updank to a monk, you can do combo moves. Try hard enough and at the end of your combo, you just do 1300% damage. And if that’s not enough, use all your remaining mana to delete all but the bossiest of bosses. And that’s before the knuckle dusters come on. That’s before the demons get to witness the power of the drunken fist, which is a kung-fu legend turned into an actual ITEM.

When I started gaming I used a green screen Ms-Dos PC and now I game with my kids I have played everything and I keep running in to teens and kids that keep searching for a fantasy of a game that is balanced and fair to which I say if games were made fair and balanced they would all be boring and bland people. A game is challenging so it does not feel like another just get over it some games are challenging and it’s been like that since before you were born

I think ninja would be workable. There are perks to make you pretty much invisible and multiply your melee damage by silly amounts for 1 hit kills.

First – I truly enjoy your videos – extremely fun and polished delivery! Second – despite your near brilliant attempt at persuading me otherwise, I’m not really sure I think that proving that unarmed combat is a much slower slog in terms of killing your enemies compared with using the moderate array of lethal weapons available is a reasonable point. Third – i do agree that the ability to maximize this approach should be coupled with more dynamic fighting animation patterns and perhaps options with investment in martial arts leading to use of kicks, and increases in overall attack speed. Fourth – absolutely these attacks should have some scaling with level.
Perhaps they could also add a way to customize your unarmed attacks so that you get a few different options that you can use that would appear as separate weapons which you could then use the favorite key to place in your hotbar. For instance, if each tier of martial arts gave you 3 new martial weapon attacks that then appeared permanently in your inventory as weapons you could place in this manner, it would let you customize your martial arts character nicely. The 3 options might include “rapid punch”, “snap kick”, “submission hold” [tier 1], “elbow strike”, “flying kick”, “eye strike” [tier 2], “karate chop”, etc, etc With clear information as to the attack speed, damage, perhaps range or special effects for each. THAT would make martial arts a fun thing to take to offer close combat options for many builds…. Thanks for the fun and the inspiration! JW

Yorkshire Tea is amazing. I’m taking a break from Starfield until they patch the Home Ship Disappearing bug; I can’t progress the Freestar quests or All the Money can Buy without ship vanishing.

Our favorite beta tester is testing Starfield.

I can’t believe you missed a leveling exploit!! Forget killing things to level. Just head to Bessel III-b and make an outpost in the correct location. Then make unlimited adaptive frames and isocentered magnets to level as much as you want. Then you can sell them (which takes forever) or you waddle out into the desert and drop the 250,000kg of frames and magnets you’re carrying.

The amount that would be gained by just idk giving us fist weapons???? I don’t understand why they decided that uanrmed should be just us smacking folks with our pressurized space suit that keeps the delicious life-giving oxygen in and the toxic corrosive poison atmosphere out – risking a suit rupture with every punch against sharp pirate armour and spikey space scorpion carapaces – without giving us some like specialized fisting technology? Why is Fallout the only Bethesda title in which they are willing to give us legitimate fist weapons? Like why aren’t there even unarmed damage boosting suit mods at least?

It’s absurd to me that Bethesda chose to patch the chests BEFORE fixing game breaking bugs and performance issues, IMO it seems like bugs and performance would’ve been higher on the priority list but what do I know

i mean, honestly y’all, its pretty realistic that choosing to punch your way through space, against animals with sharp teeth, and baddies with guns and knives, and highly advanced metal robots, isn’t actually a smart path to take.

Starfield isn’t for me and I wasn’t really watching this until the very very end when Spiff tells it like it is. You go Spiff! 4.5 bribes out of 5

Sort of the opposite of Daggerfall, where you could create a whole bunch of magic items to boost your hand-to-hand to around 200, at which point your fists were doing twice as much damage as the daedric dai-katana.

Reminds me of Fallout 2’s final battle with Secret Service Agent Frank Horrigan. You could stun lock him most turns, but he was immune to hand to hand damage. Only way I could kill him was via the Human Anatomy perk’s plus five HP bonus damage with each punch. It took a very long time. He had a lot of HP.

I took the ship and sold it and i still have the miner following me through ever mission. So the question is, how many people can you agree to save and just take back to your ship as followers?? you could potentially have an army everywhere you go…

Bethesda’s first new universe in over 25 years (they even brag about this for some reason), and it’s this mediocre (on top of buggy).

You can punch open a 20cm door lock before learning boxing, but cannot one punch those men to death as a kickboxing master, what is this game?!

You can bypass any and all robots by locating the box they are stored in accessing the computer and updating friend/foe status, they all stop attacking you

The other “class” that starts with jetpack is Bounty Hunter, and its overall better, for a normal run (vs one done for the lulz and YouTube cash, of course).

Why are people completely overlooking drugs? Take some amp and battle stims, etc and I bet you punching will do even more damage. There are melee drugs, too Some drugs even increase your oxygen. People seem to be forgetting that entire feature, it’s always been an important thing in Bethesda games if you want to use special builds

For anyone wondering: None of these glitch tricks or chest in puddle tricks work anymore, they were patched out on PC before this video even dropped.

The game doesn’t allow you to punch enemy ships to death in space during the tutorial? I am horribly disappointed and shall have to continue playing Starpoint Gemini Warlords, which does allow you to punch enemy spaceships to death in the tutorial (it’s a little more effective than punching things in Starfield too… probably because you’re punching with a spaceship instead of a human fist).
