Generally speaking, the most important thing is the story and the reason why we want to do something in these games. A good game should be like a good book.
The plot is always the most important thing. There are plenty of ordinary shooters on the market, maybe even more. Secrets, mysteries, untold stories, betrayals… right after them, it is equally important to present them, to showcase them. Everyone knows this, but not everyone understands it.

So glad I never bought star field

I played Starfield before BG3 and I loved it. The “Endgame” not so much. But it is interesting and teeming with potential. Add a new story line, give us some more not constellation related romances… etc.

Have you seen the latest update for No Man’s Sky? Did Todd Andrew Howard shit himself again when he saw it?

The amount of sycophants in this comments section is truly disgusting. By all means like the game, there’s a lot of bits & pieces that are decent & the hate is often over done, but it is baffling how excited the people here are after 2 years, so much silence, so few meaningful updates, so many bad takes on the games reception by BGS, and THAT DLC (that DLC showed us all what BGS think about worldbuilding, i.e. “who cares, they’ll buy it anyway”). I’ll spare anybody glancing here the litany of problems this game still has, it’s been said to death.

All of you are why Starfield launched the way it did, developed the way it has, and we can all look forward to future games from a once vaunted studio feeling lazier, costing more, and leaning heavier into paid mods. There’s literally a comment in here saying they are happy with paying for “creations” (overpriced microscopic content compared to the cost of the base game / content, so why would a developer put effort into the base product when they can half-ass it and get income from mods? They don’t even make most of the damn mods they just get a cut on their utterly awful store). This has become normalised so fast, there’s comments on FREE mods on the nexus from true morons asking those mod developers to make it paid for everyone. Consume. Hype. Repeat. Buy product. Buy next product. Be happy.

The issue here doesn’t even solely lie with BGS or greedy corporations, it’s customers who throw those companies money and tell them they are amazing all while getting ripped off and treated like something the company stood on, then go down with the ship defending them from ALL criticism. Of course they are going to take advantage of you, you’re begging them to do it & giving them a proverbial (I hope) Handy-J for doing it.

The only hard work that I see evidence of in this game is some mad scientist(s) figuring out how to get a ship builder this complex into gamebryo (imagine the work that’s had to be done to get the Morrowind engine into space). Even then it’s clearly unfinished & I wonder if old Pete Hines saw the work that team did before he went on his merry way, and slapped their faces for making the rest of the studio look deathly incompetent then canned the rest of the work they planned to do. Since they didn’t do much else with it I also wonder if they got fired. & beat up. Maybe pissed on a little.

As always, thank you for not giving up on Starfield despite the nonstop blowback towards that game. Tons of us still believe in it and do not subscribe to all the slander it constantly faces in mainstream spaces. Its great that y’all are finally working on space gameplay, as its been one of the biggest requests since the game first came out honestly. Still hoping they didn’t abandon the Tracker’s Alliance stuff either. Would love to see a full questline for them.

The experience I’ve had with Starfield so far is nothing short of extraordinary. The spectrum of genres the game covers is refreshing and to top it all the music is beautiful.

I appreciated and enjoyed the ideas of Starfield ranging from the consequences of space exploration to objective morality. There really isn’t quite a game like this that tackles these concepts in the way Starfield has.

All I wanted from Starfield was actual planets (not squares) and actual spaceships (not cutscenes with a cheap minigame in between).
Starfield has been the BIGGEST disappointment in all of gaming history.
There’s still time to change it though. Put the work in and give the people what was advertised: an actual space game (not Fallout with a space “theme”).

It would take a complete overhaul of a lot of the games systems for me to want to play again.

It’s good to know you guys didn’t abandon Starfield since it didn’t blow up like you wanted to. I played through during release on a friend’s account but I’ll buy a copy once new DLC is released. I had a blast and I’m looking forward to playing a second time.

Starfield!!! For me its one of the best games every made in space. I’m hoping for some good stories and more content. Starfield just started a journey and it still have so much potential! I really would like to gave an multiplayer to fly with my friends but at some point we need to stay at the carpet. 😅

I still think Starfield is one of the best Science Fiction PC games ever made!

I know this wont happen… But if you want the space flight to feel real. Then MAKE IT REAL. Kerbal space program style, real Newtonian mechanics, momentum, oberth maneuvers, the whole deal.. add in some well thought out and helpful assistance features for planning maneuvers, and then allow the players to actually control the ship in 3D space. It will be extremely difficult and that’s part of what will make it awesome. Kerbal space program is still completely unmatched.

Taking a ship out to space by flying straight up and then pointing it at the next planet that’s inexplicably close and just flying straight for X amount of time is….. Just not exciting, nit realistic, not immersive. It completely ruins the feel of a space game for me. No mans sky does a slightly better job of making the space feel real but not much.. star citizen and space engineers do a great job with the feel of momentum in space around stations where it feels real but it completely falls flat with the straight line flight around planets and just floating still when you should either be orbiting or falling

This might not have been the announcement I have been hoping for since this years XBOX Showcase, but it was at least a renewed confirmation that you haven’t given up. I desperately want to get back to Starfield and start a new run, but I want to wait for the new DLC so I have two DLCs and a few Creations like Watchtower to enjoy for the first time in a new run since I didn’t have the time for Shattered Space last year… I’d just love some kind of estimate how long the new DLC is away…? Is it worth waiting, or is it still far in the future…? You know Starfields birthday is coming up, that would be the perfect moment for some sort of announcement.. pretty please… 🙃

I just wanted to contribute some positivity because Starfield is sincerely one of my favorite comfort games. I could roam planets and collect resources, or design ships to the beautiful soundtrack for hours and hours.. but more importantly I appreciate the consistent improvements that have been made to the game since launch. I’m always surprised by people who start writing something about the NMS with the news about Starfield, trying to somehow belittle Starfield against its background. There is only one excuse for these people – they are blind. Well, seriously, these are games about completely different things and with different designs that can appeal to completely different people. For example, I don’t like NMS just because of its acidic design with implausible, cartoonish space and fauna design as if it was drawn by children… I don’t care what NMS gameplay features if I just can’t watch it… I love a more authentic representation of space. It’s like saying Minecraft building is done much better than Fallout 4…. God, I don’t care how advanced it is in Minecraft… I don’t want to play fucking cubes. +-The situation is similar between Starfield and NMS.

I say this with love and it will come across as tough love, but we need to talk.
BGS has lost its way and the modding community warned them the first time they tried the paid mod thing on Steam. Remember how that was rejected?
BGS sets the stage for a great game, solid foundation. Modders come in out of passion and fix what is broken, offer content to personalize the game. But it was all done out of passion. My Skyrim game is not your Skyrim game but the base is the same.
BGS tries to monetize that and do not lie to me and mod makers should get paid because BGS takes a cut for doing nothing. ALL BGS has done is killed the passion. Now you have people just chasing money through making mods and BGS facilitates that because they want money. This video is less than 6 minutes long and paid mod makers are mentioned. That is a demonstration of the failure of BGS to understand the community.
We understand as a community that console mods need a specific server. Passing on the operation cost of said server is understandable. Paid mods are not. It is the passion of the community that sells your games, not paid mods. People viewed BGS as the true hero that made the game, provided mod tools so buy the game.
I am a TES fan and have over 5000 hours in Skyrim. I am a life member of Nexus mods and am an official mod author. Many times mod makers help each other and then give it to the community. Kinda like “Pot Luck”. That is what the BGS community is suppose to be.
Starfield is a bad game and I tried very hard to like it. I wanted it to be great and preordered the $100 edition. So do not call me a hater. But I uninstalled it from my PC. Because what I see is a bad story where the “word walls” became a small temple. The Dragon Priest are that nobody waiting outside when you leave. The shouts went from the mouth to the hand.
Cowboy is not a good father for dragging that child through space battles. All of the characters are jank at best and so annoying I wish I never met any of them. World is empty and why? BGS wanted modders to their job and fill the planets themselves, so BGS could charge for mods. We didn’t ask for all those planets. We asked for TES6.
BGS please go back to the formula before paid mods. Because I am so done with you that I will not preorder TES6 because I do not trust you anymore. I think your gaming passion is money only. So I will wait for the reviews of the next Elder Scrolls before I buy. I want the 11/11/11 BGS back not what ever this is suppose to be.

Starfield was trash at launch, is trash now and will forever be trash. Any hope that es6 will be anything but slop is gone.

I’ve got 300 hours in the Starfield, and I’ve loved every minute. I just hope it keeps getting the support it deserves. It’s great to receive this reassurance and acknowledgement.

I think the criticism and bad name Starfield has is disproportionate and unfair. If any other company had released Starfield exactly the same as Bethesda did—including the mod support and openness—people would be saying how great it is.

The problem is expectations were too high, and they’re comparing it to something it’s not. And then there are the updates after launch, and that’s where my praise and benefit of the doubt ends.

The cadence of updates for Starfield has been abysmal. Individual modders, without access to the tools and source code, are releasing more updates of equal or better quality than Bethesda.

So as excited as I am before this update, I have little faith it will contain anything significant, because it feels like the development process is stuck. Bethesda seems weighed down by corporate processes, so it takes them two years to do an update that would take three months for anyone else—and it will probably break things in the process (see Fallout 4 update). Breaking things in the process would be okay if they could then fix it quickly, but as with Fallout 4 and other past examples, there’s a significant chance they won’t even fix it.

If anyone at Bethesda reads this, please know this is meant as constructive criticism from someone who thinks you have a gold mine on your hands. But I think you have done what many companies have done (including where I work): created so many processes and barriers internally to development that the benefits (less likelihood of introducing bugs, in theory) are massively outweighed by the cons (it takes literally ten times longer to develop changes, and you end up introducing bugs anyway).

My suggestion to you is, for the love of God, completely change your approach to development. Have a fail-fast, fix-fast approach. Strip out all the processes. Go back to what you were years ago. If you’re worried about breaking things, go with a beta branch model. Let that fail fast. You can develop much faster, it will save you a ton of money, we will get lots of features, and I guarantee your reputation will start to improve again.

The only other possible explanation (we can’t even blame a poor engine, because the modders can do it) for how lousy and slow your update process is now is that you’ve lost the talent and skills required internally to develop your own software. The solution to that is: hire the modders—even if you have to keep your existing staff for employment law reasons. At this point, put them on a new project. Three or four modders would easily outpace the development speed of your current system if you took them on and changed your development process.

You have no excuse for how slow updates are coming out. Even a single developer could do a lot of small updates while we wait for the big expansions.

I keep hoping and waiting for a No Man’s Sky moment with Bethesda, and I honestly thought after the backlash to Starfield we would get it. But better late than never.

Please, please, Bethesda—for the love of God—change your processes. If needed, hire modders to do the development. I guarantee it will improve your reputation, improve the game, and save you money. There’s no reason not to do it other than resistance to change.

If you can seamlessly fly from planet to planet within a star system and get rid of the borders on planets so they are seamless then you’ll eliminate the two biggest pain points of loading IMHO. Hopefully there are a ton of new space PoIs such as derelict space stations and whatnot because the game was really lacking in that regard, planets need a ton of PoIs added too, you can only take so much of the frozen research facility.

I hope this game continues to see good support becuase while it missed the mark on exploration, there’s a ton of untapped potential that can still be realized.

I hope future Starfield updates aren’t as disappointing as past ones. I hate how despite having so much potential and obvious areas where the game could be improved, so far we mainly have just gotten nonstop radio silence or little incremental stuff (and meanwhile similar games from other studios seem to get these huge updates and overhauls like clockwork)

Suggestion: instead of loading screens during every jump, just keep the jump animation going during the load. Sure it will feel like the jump takes 5-20 seconds, but that will feel immersive and I think people might like it more than constant loading screens during space travel.

I like Starfield. I think the game has a lot of potential. I definitely enjoy playing it and I’ll be playing it for a long time. I like the repetitiveness of the combat and it’s very enjoyable for me to get off work and to come home and play for an hour and just relax.A few points of friendly feedback, I do think you all should look at expanding the content to include more in-depth interaction between the factions, and maybe adding more settlements onto the current faction worlds.

My hope is restored. Can’t wait to see what’s next for the game.

I love settlements in Fallout 4, despite there being too many of them. I did not like Outposts in Starfield. I think a combination of the skill progression and crafting alongside the outpost feature set had me butting my head against it where Fallout 4 felt intuitive and I spent far too much time doing it.

Two points.
1. What’s the deal with the visors? It’s been 20 years, Tim, the public deserves an answer.
2. Thank you for your work. I am, frankly, not a fan of Starfield as it is now. But I know was a passion project for alot of you (10th planet and all that) so I hope it can be turned around. It does have potential.

Bethesda, if you are listening: by having space travel skippable and without fuel requirements, it makes the Starfield game world feel smaller. By not having an actual reason to build a player home(besides storing stuff and to show off), it makes that whole part of the game feel pointless. By not having the hazards on planets feel overpowering and oppressive, it makes each planet feel the same. By not being able to repair individual parts of your ship on your own, the ships don’t feel as real or dynamic as I believe they could. These are the reasons why I personally feel like Starfield has fallen short.

Please be working on an official Survival Mode 🙏

Negative, not everything x4 – Missing all the lore, interesting NPC’s, interesting exploration and story elements for almost every cave and dungeon in past Elder Scrolls Games. Not even close and I was so excited for Starfield but didn’t play more than a week. It had no soul in my opinion compared to anything Elder Scrolls. I’m always hopeful for a “No Mans Sky” / “Cyberpunk” surprise revamp of systems and mechanics to add the rich exploration elements and in depth lore that’s adds so much!! Empty planets and caves are boring!!

I have criticised star field plenty, but only because it feels like it could be so much more keep at it.

I wish Starfield was like I wished it to be.

I’m glad they are highlighting Tim, but we need to understand what is next for Starfield. Don’t try and compete with GTA 6. Start bringing the community in right now to what is going on. We haven’t heard anything and were promised updates consistently.

Thank God for this! I was fearing the game was abandoned for elder scrolls 6. Please more or at least show a roadmap. You don’t even have to show gameplay a road map of what’s to come would be a giant breath of fresh air like how cd project red did with cyberpunk 2077. The radio silence is brutal and just makes things frustrating. I love starfield and just knowing it hasn’t been abandoned gives so much hope.

So glad you guys haven’t given up on Starfield. I know people like to try to trash the game online a LOT. But there are multitudes of us that love this game. I’ve always had a special place in my heart for Bethesda games. You guys tackle my favorite genres like nobody else. High Fantasy, Post-Apocalyptic, and then you went and made a space game, that’s literally our whole galaxy as an explorable and playable game area. Mind blown. And then all the awesome stuff you guys put in, all the ship parts, the cool guns, the base building. There’s so much to do and so much to see. I have about 30 days in the game at the moment hours wise. I’ve played since release and I always have a blast and find something new every time I play! I cannot wait to see what’s next for Starfield, and I hope it continues to get the support of the studio for a long time. I’d love to see more free updates and maybe a third and even a fourth expansion down the line. I think a lot of the stuff people “don’t like” about the game comes from not giving it the chance. There’s so much more beyond the surface and if you spend the time with it. For me, Starfield is one of those games where you get out exactly what you put in to it, and I love that. Keep doing what you do guys, you’re kicking ass! Also thank you Tim for pitching one of my favorite Fallout guns of all time, the Railway Rifle. Learning that blew my mind! It’s so cool hearing your story and seeing how far you’ve come! You’re doing great work on a game I love dearly, and I’m excited to see it continue!

Starfield is not that bad of a game, but it is as well just ”whatever” game, so out of touch from previous games you guys made before like Elder Scroll or Fallout series. This game could have been the same level like those games(Skyrim or Fallout 3-4), but in space, and it is not even close unfortunately. What really killed it for me is the unhealthy amount of loading screens and boring interaction with the world, NPCs and quests, it is so boring or not engaging at all. I did not even finish the game, nothing in the game makes me feel like ”I really want to get home from work and out of 500 games I have, Starfield is the one I wanna play today.”
If you guys would tweak some stuff in the game as mentioned above, it would be yet another good and classic Bethesda game.
Again, not a bad game, it just needs an improvement.

Starfield did a little of a lot of different things, but never felt full, felt like things were missing. Like no one part of it was fully developed out as it should have been. Like it tried to do too much and so each piece was too thin

100 hours into this game and i never even played the main story lol i just did two of main big side story quests. My biggest gripes was a lack of gore lack of adult themes or any adult soul. This game felt like it was created by a group of lonely virgens with weird corporate strings tied EVERYWHERE. To go from the world of fall out 3 and new vegas to the softer but still hard world of skyrim it hurt alot

We shall see. I am not believing a word. I feel as though they still owe me. I realize this is irrational but from what I felt, I was promised to what was delivered…SO much is missinG
