N.B.: This morning Xbox announced they’re not going to $80 for this Holiday season and have walked back the price of Outer Worlds 2. As a result, I think they’ll launch ‘Starfield: The Complete Edition’ at $70 on PS5, insead of the $80 price point I mentioned in the video.

Kinggath’s Fallout 4 citybuilder mods are the only thing which made F4 playable and (very) enjoyable for me. The man literally pulled the game out the gutter.

4:45 to be honest Bethesda FFFFFFFFFed up when they thought they were these amazing developers and the “Big Bethesda 3” idea trickled into Emil’s KISS brain and he filed Todd’s brain with big 3 and KISS and just lackluster work put into each. This is why their games suck now! You can’t expect them to put passion into products when they are like….dang ES6 is hard to really make a difference….but we also have Starfield….I know just I dunno add a small patch to keep the few that play it happy…OK. What is crazy is every developer eventually goes this way. Larian went from one game at a time to hit peak game developement and now they are at 3. Swen looks tired and says its hard. Owlcat games is so branched out now and making FPS style games inline with its CRPG stuff. A few years from now players will be hating on Owlcat but no one ever realizes its that you cant branch out like this. Peak Led Zeppelin…..did they make a heavy metal album or when rap appeared a rap album? Stay on your path humans your not that great of developers and your not a mastermind of game ingenuity Todd and Emil!!

I LOVE Starfield . But my attention span does not . If they would have just kept a team on adding unique POI’s and building their own stories and locations ( they dont have to be DLC size or anything ) It would have continued to keep me playing . They just keep trying to ” Go big ” and end up going to big . I just want less duplicate .. Well everything . Also the unique items in the game are SCARCE . My fav pist0l in the game ” Ember ” is just a skin . I got it at lvl 70? and its the weakest pistol i have because its not advanced . They need to remember that their games are built around combat and everyone wants unique items that are actually unique .

I thoroughly enjoyed playing Fallout 4, and was eager for more, after playing its expansions. When Starfield was announced, I was excited for it, but did not pre-order due to the bad press after Fallout 76 was released. More than a year after Starfield’s release, I remained on the sidelines, based upon the disappointing reviews. Because of the company’s business model to monitize game mods, I don’t think I will purchase another Bethesda product. It seems that Mr. Howard is great at promising the moon, but delivers a rocket that explodes on the launch pad, and fails to fix the malfunction.

This is sad. Another Anthem. I hoped they would’ve learned from others mistake and not do what EA did and just quit development. Starfield is such a great platform to add on to especially with so much space and room to build quest

Another example of the power of players. When gamers roasted the shitty dialog in Forespoken, the folks making Dreadwolf (man fuck “Veilguard”) realized they done screwed up. So they stripped out as much cringe as they could. Unfortunately, it was too far along to do what really needed to be done. The audio was already recorded. But keep the pressure on folks. Nothing could be more BGS than accidentally rolling credits because you followed the main mission 4 steps forward. What the fuck, Bethesda. You have to learn how to structure a single player game. Like install Cyberpunk on a machine and play it. Knowing how BGS works, I tried to avoid the main quest as much as possible in Starfield, spent a lot of time on side quests. But wouldn’t you know it, just when I thought the story was just beginning to get interesting, the credits rolled. God dammit.

Starfield is really good now. Modding and DLC with optimisation updates, you can play 60fps in quality mode and it’s super stable. Majority (85/90%) of mods are plug and play due to being standalone with CreationKit so you only get conflicts/ game breaks if you don’t pay attention to what you’re adding to the load order.

I currently have 30GB of mods on Xbox Series X and safe to say I am hooked.

The point of the game is to go through multiple NG+ and see variations of univserses and play forever basically. Seems Bethesda’s intended vision was creating a universe for their community / “creation club” …

The worst part about Starfield is that it could’ve been an amazing game. I feel like they were going down the right track with the main storyline and then was like, yep that’s good enough. Even though there were so many questions that could’ve been answered or expanded upon, certain capabilities they could’ve added from the jump like orbital strikes, vehicles to travel the planets. More human colonies, cities states etc throughout the cosmos etc. It’s like they got just enough to bring us in and then abandoned all creativity.

The game does have the potential to go on for years if they actually put effort into adding legit storylines and not some half-ass obviously rushed story like shattered space. It’s unfortunate.

Why are so many of you flipping out and crying “why no Stafield updates?” I don’t get it? The game is a SINGLE PLAYER game, was released YEARS ago, and was COMPLETE AT LAUNCH. Now, much like the Fallout and Elder Scrolls series, they’re leaving it up to the modding community to make some creative and fun tweaks to the game if they so desire. The Shattered Space expansion wasn’t as big as people hoped it would be, but again – the game WAS COMPLETE AT LAUNCH. It’s not a game that runs seasonal competitions or raids, because it is an entirely single-player RPG game. It’s not a game that they had ever planned releasing “extra content” officially, because it is a SINGLE PLAYER RPG THAT WAS CONISDERED TO BE COMPLETE AT LAUNCH.

You want updates every week that break all the mods and force you to redownload 175GB game every week? Then go back to your COD or ESO instead. You all have been spoiled from the attention that those SUBSCRIPTION-BASED MMO games get from their developers. But single player games don’t have a way for dev’s to continuously farm money from players; and players only buy a single copy and then they usually only do one single playthrough (maybe a couple of NG+ runs too). Which means they’re not getting paid to continuously update their single player games. So the updates they provide for single player titles are typically focused on fixing glitches and maybe some low-key quality of life improvements. That is by necessity. We’re already paying $80+ for NEW games; do you really want to force the prices to go even higher by expecting MORE AND BIGGER updates from the developers?

It’s both funny and sad that a team of modders can make a much better DLC like Creation then Bethesda can make a DLC for Starfield. Bethesda just doesn’t care as much. I’m only not sure if Bethesda is at fault as a whole, or the writer Emilio with the difficult surname.

Also, the Shattered Space DLC feels just like a faction questline. Like the ones of Freestar Rangers, United Colonies/SYSdef, etc. It really feels the exact same kind of missions. Maybe a bit expanded to make it a €30 DLC.

No. No one wants atarfield to be bad but the amount of work and money it would take for Bethesda to actually fix everything that people don’t like isn’t worth it. It’s better for them to just let it die. It didn’t work the way they thought it would and I’m sure they’re sad about it but they aren’t going to put resources into something that might still not do well.

Also, dont take Todd saying there will be another expansion or multiple expansions overtime. There will probably be another expansion but after that as he said here is what he originally wanted to do. He said all this though when people and Bethesda were optimistic about starfield. This was before all the negative reviews etc. that changes everything. It’s unlikely there will be more than 1 more expansion at this point.

Combat is lame. Fallout is better in this regard. How that happened? Same studio but systems degrade… Actually Starfield is worth then even Falout 76 in many regards. The NewGame+ is brilliant as an idea. Very badly executed, though. Gathering artifact pieces each time is a nightmare! It’s so boring! Also, you can’t do much differently even when you know what happens. So much potential wasted! Worth yet, they didn’t try to fix those issues. To hell with DLCs that add content, fix core issues instead!
The engine… If you decide to rely on modders, use Unreal Engine! I know I could spend some time learning it to mod a game. No chance in hell i’m learning to use some useless engine!
Hope they don’t make the same mistakes with next game. Would love to get some Fallout remake on Unreal Engine 5. I would participate in modding it to make it great VR experience!

My boys got me starfield for fathers day when it first came out i was hyped for it… i tried to slog through it for the sake of the boys spending the money on it for me. Got to a point i was waking up with the controller in my lap and the game still going that i realised im not going to finish this snorefest of a game and i havent touched it since unfortunately.

Honestly, everything that went down with Starfield and how stuff is being handled has me disappointed. I played every Elder Scrolls game growing up (Oblivion & Morrowind are still my favorites) along side with Fallout 3 but man was I hurt and disappointed with how they started handling things with Skyrim and then later Fallout 4 (F4 made me quit all Bethesda games). Starfield is honestly up my alley, I love the whole exploration of Space and all that (honestly wish Elite: Dangerous had done a better job at it. No Man’s Sky is amazing tho) but the way they’re just handling things kills any excitement I have/had. I would not buy this game even on a Sale and that has me sad.

If Fallout 4 and the dozenth rerelease of Skyrim didn’t kill any hype I once had for future Bethesda Game Studio projects, Starfield cemented the coffin in the ground.

Frankly the writing was on the wall that Starfield was going to be mediocre at best, I’m amazed that BGS & Todd can’t admit it. It’s honestly impressive how they’ve been able to make RPGs with no nuance to the story or gameplay since Skyrim. Credit where it’s due though, at least Fallout 4 had fun customization and base-building.

Just saying I didn’t buy the game because I could smell all of that from faaaar away.

Bethesda released for FREE an update that gives you damage sliders in the settings to make the game easier or harder with a nerf/buff on XP gained, respectively.

However, I absolutely see your broader point on Bethesda not fixing things just so they can sell the solution to you with paid mods. I just wouldn’t use the endgame difficulty as an example. I haven’t touched Starfield in well over a year so maybe those sliders don’t help, but you can’t just pass over that update.

Instead of letting devs make games they want and go wild with ideas, they play it safe with the same formula year over year.
Starfield was just ok. It was disappointing for me and I still havent played SS because I know its not worth me coming back.
Its insane to think the last true ES game was in 2011……yet studios are bigger then ever. Makes one think that the industry is really struggling with wanting preputial growth.

Sadly, Bethesda is selling games off it’s legacy, and distributing sub par experiences compared to smaller development studios. I think your video is spot on.

Starfield is a game with no depth, no passion, no real vision. It is a bland sandbox with the bare minimum of effort put into terrible factions, mediocre side quests, and the piss poor illusion of player choice. It is Emil Pagliarulo’s epic science fantasy retelling of Skyrim with less meaningful content and hardly anything worth exploring. Bethesda is cooked and will never learn from this because it probably made them enough money to call it a win.

I can’t seem to get into Starfield, it’s bland, exploration isn’t what I had expected. Enough said. I have a friend who buys mods in the Creation store (yes it is a store), and he will sometimes end up with mods that don’t work or unknowingly is abandoned. There are NO refunds. WHY would I buy a mod from there. I still have 1100 credits to spend and last time I checked, I didn’t see anything exciting there.
As far as Elder Scrolls 6 goes, I will watch gameplay of it before I purchase it. If it ever gets published. If it ends up being lackluster like Starfield, I’m not buying it. BGS still has to prove themselves to me to get any faith or respect back that they had.

I have ps5…starfield isn’t worth it and neither was ps5. I don’t even want the oblivion remaster because of how broken it is.

I replayed Starfield again earlier this year, but got burnt the eff out having to mod it to make it relatively good. Knowing that doing all that modding will eventually get undone when BGS throws an update that breaks everything. And going back to a modded save has the risk of mods getting vaulted and no longer updated.

As someone who wasted their money on Starfield I’m perfectly fine with BGS moving on from Starfield completely. It would take way too much work to make this game decent and they’ve already wasted 8 plus years in this game as it is. Time to move on, I just hope their next project isn’t as soulless as Starfield is.

I went into this game so excited to play it but Todd sold us more lies. Todd needs to retire and stop directing games he’s a dinosaur with no good ideas. Bethesda doesn’t innovate they rehash old ideas and repackage them into a new game. Bethesda has sucked as a studio for a LONG time. It’s pretty sad as I once considered them one of the best developers but now I put them on the same pedestal as EA/Ubisoft. in all honesty i loved the concept of starfield and did enjoy the game it just felt hollow. not enough citys and needed more enemy camps on planets and in space. sad they just gave up on it it could have been good had they put any effort to fix it….

I redownloaded starfield to start a new play through with watchtower dlc, it’s pretty good. Found some other good mods on Xbox to make more interesting. The game definitely has potential; shame the storytelling of the main game is so dull.

I’m a fairly new viewer, I find it a bit odd how often Luke says things with authority with a story like “oh I talked to a bunch of people who happen to work on the game I’m talking about, they say this so I’m going to agree. Can’t tell you who they are, they signed an NDA” seems awfully convenient. Now perhaps his sources are legit but from a new viewer POV gives a bit of shadiness.

If the base game mechanics were actually good, they mod store would actually be successful. Modders would focus on making total conversions and new stories and it would be fantastic.

I find it really funny that the recipe for huge single player game successes in recent times is pretty clear – Cyberpunk, Witcher, Disco Elysium, BG3, Elden Ring, KCD2, Clair Obscur, they all have some things in common which AAA flops do not. No microtransactions, good communication with the fanbase, constant updates and content, both free and paid, good writing, decent gameplay that gets updated according to fan feedback.

I play Starfield for Star Wars Genesis.

MS are burrying studios in corporate bureaucracy, making them working for months to fix bugs on ingame store nobody even wanted in the first place. They lay off devs, like they did with Turn 10, to make pointless budget saving claims. Until now they did all of it while still making good games, but now games are shrinking while only the bureaucracy is growing.

They just cant salvage this game at this point. Most of its starfields problems come from its core qualities like writing, game engine and level design. Those you can’t fix with updates unfortunately. This will forever remain slop. The insanely mid DLC they botched is proof of it (another emil pagliarulo classic). I hope they actually learned their lesson and this is just mindless corporate damage control otherwise Fallout 5 and TES 6 are going to be major disappointments. They should cut their losses and move on…

Starfield was a disappointment and clearly some content was missing.
It’s just not in the same league as Fallout 4 or Elderscrolls games.

The base building feature is poorly implemented and incomplete. And there is no DLC expanding it.
Really is not what I was expecting given how much I liked Fallout 4. Feels like half the game or less.

I own the expansion and am so unenthusiastic about it I haven’t even played it yet. There are so many better things to play right now.

I modded the heck out of it on released with Nexus to try and enjoy the game but after 60% of way through main campaign and reached higher levels….guns stopped being fun…..the wonder of what equipment i might find was lost, didn’t have any interest in the characters or story/mission. Uninstalled it before completion. Outer Worlds was more fun

I don’t mind paying a modder, I have several paid mods for my sims (truck and train) but with those I know at least that every cent goes to the mod creators. I won’t be using that “store” they have.

Let’s not forget how a modern day bethesda update goes like. Just look back at the update they made for fallout 4 the month that FOLON was releasing. The update that broke all mods included: Halloween workshop stuff (this was in april) and ultra widescreen support. Something that was a mod since day one basically.

I don’t think there’s only one more DLC coming, if I recall they said they wanted to release two more, and probably both in September given Starfield’s release on top of Shattered Space. Starfield was a lazy project.

Cyberpunk’s longevity comes from core RPG traits, the characters, story choices and build diversity. Those aspects of the game make it repayable and they have done so since launch. Starfield has none of those core traits that make an RPG immersive. It feels like the skin for a game rather than a lore rich world. This is why there are so many Star Wars mods.

Bethesda is so disgusting with how they treat modders.

These people deserve more for doing something that Bethesda won’t. Sometimes, I wish modders just leave every Bethesda game and move on.

Don’t lie. Listen, awhile back, I made a comment here on your channel on one of your starfield videos basically pointing out how you were doing absolutely nothing in your gameplay, literally just wandering about, while I was up to so much in Fallout4. That was before I actually played Starfield, now that I’ve played it, I honestly like it, it’s just, there are certain aspects of it that are very poor. I’m not going to get too in depth here, just imagine taking a well made, awesome looking sword and dulling the tip, just a bit, just make it a little dull, but not bad! Make it good still. Like it’s weird. There are many things about this game that make it feel less robust than others but the core loop is there? I could personally talk a lot about this game…too, too, I guess!

Nah , Bethesda doing a space Fallout was something I dreamed of ever since I played FO3 in middle school… the way this studio burned me with this game is something I won’t get over in this lifetime. Once was my favorite studio. Now I kinda resent them.
