SHIP DESCRIPTION:
The Colony Wars tore through the Settled Systems, leaving scars that are still felt today. The Freestar Collective, saddled with a fleet of aging hulks, initially staked their efforts into ground warfare focusing on mechs and infantry combat. Early victories piled up, but the tide turned when the United Colonies’ superior naval might proved too dominant. Once again turning to Lindan Engineering Corporation—a new line of drop ships was commissioned. Though LEC was pressured into neutrality after the Narion War, the ground-focused military of the Freestar Collective was in desperate need of new assault ships, thus sparking the creation of the “War Rigs”—rugged assault ships built to support ground troops and mechs in the thick of battle. The DS-4 Imperator-Class War Rigs launched first—swift, agile dropships engineered for in-atmosphere air support. Yet, without escorts, many fell prey to enemy fire. In response, the DS-2 Praetorian-Class War Rigs debuted a year later as gunship platforms. While built for multiple roles, Praetorian Gunships primarily escorted Imperators Dropships into hostile drop zones. The added ability to reliably provide air support from above was a turning point in the war, and their successful wartime track record have made them elusive on the black market and fiercely sought by bounty hunters, mercenaries, and militia groups alike.

Dex Callahan, a former Freestar Ranger turned lone-wolf bounty hunter, managed to get his hands on a used Praetorian Gunship sometime in 2318. Dubbed the Sovereign-I, Dex poured numerous upgrades to the ship’s components swapping out the stock Gravitron Pulse Thrusters for a Twin-Linked BadTech Tachyon Propulsion System, shaving seconds off pursuit vectors and boosting sublight agility by 18%. As a result, cargo capacity and overall performance have improved significantly. Dex stripped the standard autocannons, retrofitting them with a pair of gimbled 40mm anti-material gatling guns synced to a custom targeting array that rip through enemy hulls. In addition to the gatling guns, Dex installed quad-pulse lasers capable of chewing through shields and hulls, leaving the T-65 Proton Torpedoes as the only stock weapons on the ship. The lower deck troop bay was gutted to make way for a 4-person brig, sick bay, and a suit and armory airlock making the Sovereign-I completely optimized for Dex’s bounty hunting duties.
