Rust has blown up in the last few days due to a few main reasons. When Rust originally launched it already had an established playerbase, but it has never seen the popularity like it has in these past few days.

Rust is a multiplayer-only survival video game developed by Facepunch Studios. Rust was first released in early access in December 2013 and received its full release in February 2018. Rust is available on PC. Console versions for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One have been announced for release in 2021.
The objective of Rust is to survive in the wilderness using gathered or stolen materials. Players must successfully manage their hunger, thirst, and health, or risk dying. Despite the presence of hostile animals such as bears and wolves; the primary threat to the player is other players due to the game being solely multiplayer. Combat is accomplished through firearms and various weapons, such as bows. In addition, vehicles controlled by non-player characters will occasionally roam, attacking armed players. Rust features crafting, though initially limited until the discovery of specific items in the game’s open world. To stay protected, players must build bases or join clans to improve their chance of survival. Raiding is a major aspect of Rust and most players are generally hostile. Rust supports modded servers which can add additional content.
Rust was first released in December 2013 to the Steam Early Access program; this early access state is now known as Rust Legacy. Further into its development, the gameplay was changed significantly. Dangerous wildlife replaced zombies as the primary environmental threat and several fundamental revisions to the crafting system were released. 2014 saw the game ported to the Unity 5 game engine, providing substantial graphical changes. Around this time, Rust introduced immutable, predetermined skin colour and biological sex tied to players’ Steam account details. Despite being fully released, the game continues to receive updates.

I am both happy and sad about this. I’m happy that new players are gonna start playing and the game will finally get the recognition that it deserves. But I’m sad because after the streamers get board with it and the hype dies, I’m afraid it will just sink back down.

Rust is not going to make it on console. The aim assist will kill the vibe for them. They main aspect and point of the game as in why people put so many hours into it is learning the sprays of the guns. Which even shroud has said. The sprays make it the hardest fps game ever. Takes hundreds or thousands of hours to master guns.

I have 4K hours in this game and it was doing fine before the big streamers came along. Did they help? Of course but I take offense to the “0-100” you mentioned a few times in this my guy. It was never was a 0. Rust has some of the best content creators around and they do an amazing job of keeping this game alive. Check out Frost, Stevie, BlooPrint, and ImBerne if you haven’t. Great story tellers and they make movie quality content.
Also good comment about the developers. They are great and they continuously add to and support this game. Top notch. I hope some of you try it. It can be brutal so be ready lol.
Leave it to Fallout 76’s failures to highlight an actual competently designed online survival game. I hope they do well, and do right by their players. I can’t get enough 7 days to die, at the moment, but i look forward to seeing Mirko’s experiences and thoughts.
It became popular due to the paid big time twitch streamer duh and honestly watching them play was painfull and 90%went to RP server’s OMEGALAWLS
As soon as people saw rust go up in views a bunch of other mid-small streamers jumped on the bandwagon lol
