The localization and voice acting is an absolute treat in FFXVI. The entire team did a tremendous job. Ralph Ineson and Ben Starr in particular have a very compelling dynamic that grounds both characters. I’m certainly looking forward to hearing these voice actors again and I hope Koji and the localization team will work on future FFs so we can all enjoy it.

For me it has to be one of the best games in terms of voice acting. The game of thrones inspiration actually translated very well, the quality is superb. Even down to the random villagers and back row characters. Congrats to the team

The acting was outstanding. The boss battles, beautiful. The hundreds of side quests, awful. The story. Meh. This was the first time in my 30 years of gaming that I actually skipped cut scenes. I will say the end when Joshua dies for real and Clive had that flashback, actually brought me to tears, though. The story felt generic. Now, certain ideas or themes were amazing. Like the summons being the major part of the story. Ultima, was terrible. My God. He talks too damn much. He almost seemed like an A.I. created character. Voice and all. Feels like a bad version of Sephoroth. (Did I spell that right?)
Conclusion, I’ll definitely play again and don’t regret the buy. Just $70 is too much. I feel like they spent their budget on the boss battle.

The voice actors really elevated the material. Even the ones that didn’t last too long in the story. Very interesting how secretive the story was, even the main characters weren’t sure what they were a part of right away.

I am literally blessed to have been able to absorb the experience of Final Fantasy XVI, even though I’m not able to play the game (currently). A profound experience for sure. Watching and loving this behind the scenes, I keep thinking about how cool Ben is, and how great Cid’s performance was- how great the voice casting was. It was apparently English first, I believe they said, and I could REALLY feel that, as an English speaking person. Even though the dialogue is within a middle-ages, fantasy setting, with cool language touches, it still all felt extremely natural. I think everyone involved, everyone on and off the stage not shown, hit a home-run out of the park, into the parking lot. In my eyes, FF16 was a monumental success, and that makes me happy, man. Thanks everyone.

Jesse Cox is awful. He played one FF game, the MMO of all things then declared himself a guru of the series or whatever. I just don’t understand the appeal he is balding and obese and not particular knowledgable or interesting. Half the things he says about FF are just plain wrong. He adds nothing insightful to this and just looks out of place, should go to gym.

Of course this should not be a prerequisite for doing the job, but it ends up making Clive more relatable, even so subtly, as the main character that we, also fans, control directly. And tell me the absolutely expected “you’re such a nerd” reaction from Nina in response to Ben’s segment in 8:05 is not something every FF fan is very used to, hahaha. He’s us!

And I hope S-E gives us a new Dissidia some time soon, at this point even for the sole reason that our man Ben would be able to interact with all of his, and ours, favorite characters through Clive. Rooting for you, buddy!

Ralph Ineson was absolutely superb. The depth of his voice, how authentic his voice felt and his voice acting was nothing short of charming.

this game was absolutely brilliant! the Eikon battles would only hold a fraction of the weight and spectacle that they do if not for all the beautifully acted conflicts and character moments that lead up to them. Also heres my obligatory DLC begging pls thx

a few of my favorite moments were Clive and Jill in the barn at Eastpool, Clive and Annabella at Twinside followed by Clive and Joshua’s reunion, Jill and Clive on the shore of Ash, pretty much every scene Cid was in, Barnabas and Clive atop Reverie, Hugo and Clives confrontation in Rosalith, and of course the ending which was beautiful beyond words

I also want to listen to a radio drama with all of the cast. What a wonderful thing.

No wonder I liked the audio quality of the performances for this game. 2:29 has both talents in the booth at the same time and that is one of the primary reasons I usually prefer the Japanese audio in both anime and Japanese games. If they had done this the way most US voice over companies do it, they’d have had each actor in the booth one at a time. This leads to audio that is _too_ crisp and clean. It sounds like exactly what happened: talent acted into the mic in front of them. It sounds unnatural.

Doing it this way gives the audio a much more natural sound; Japanese dubbing companies do it this way too. It also vastly improves the performances of the talent when they’re able to interact with each other directly.

Absolutely fantastic job everyone.

I don’t think I’ve been this captivated by a game’s narrative in a long time. And honestly it’s not that it’s super complex or a story I’ve never witnessed, but it’s all in the execution and this is absolutely PEAK storytelling and acting.

That being said, it is incredibly jarring to go from the top notch acting to the mid ass in gameplay dialogue where they just BioWare dead eyed stare and shake their limbs as they talk. That sucks. 😅

Nina’s delivery of “Where is Garuda?!” Caught me so off guard. I was just fighting this character, certainly an enemy, but in that moment her fear and panic was so viscerally obvious.

They all kicked ass, phenomenal acting.

FFXVI gave the best voice acting I have ever witnessed in a video game, by a large marging.
I don’t say that to diminish the work other voice actors did on other games, but I truly believe FFXVI team went above and beyond and gave us the best voice acting ever made.
I am not even a native English speaker but I was blown away by the quality of the English dubbing.

You achieved the impossible, every character and its voice is now engrained in my mind and I will never forget them.

75 hours into what i can only describe as a masterpiece. Ben starr is the goat what a performance, come to me ifrit!!!!!!!!!!

Please give us a concrete ending instead of an ambiguous one next time. 😑

The voice acting in FF16 is outstanding, but unfortunately I don’t agree with them about the quality of the writing. There will likely be nerds making outrageously long “video essays” about the limitations of the script and scenario in the coming months/years/decades.

But the biggest and most distracting problem for me is that Clive supposedly endured thirteen years of slavery as an assassin and murderer for Sanbreque, yet he is a cheerful, level-headed, perfectly good person with no apparent flaws and zero “edge.” Previous Final Fantasy games have had main characters that were more edgy with backgrounds 1/10th as horrific as Clives. The characterization of Jill has similar issues.

I get the feeling that the developers didn’t commit to the shocking brutalilty in the first act of the game, and retreated into a more safe and lighter tone for the rest of it. I’m 70% through, so I’ll have to see how it concludes.

This kind of problem extends beyond the characters and into the plot as well, but that’s another matter I won’t get into here. I’ll just say that it’s also extremely distracting how unaware both the Outlaws and the game’s developers are that our main characters are legitimate terrorists ruining people’s way of life. They are ideologues who wax poetic about the importance of “dying and living on your own terms,” as they unilaterally decide for the entire world that nobody should have the option to use magic in their lives. Utter hypocrisy that, so far, nobody in the game has called out.

Is it weird that I want XVI to release on PC asap just to see naked Cid mods😂😂

The voice cast in this game was stellar, the graphics were stellar, the story was great, the gameplay was fun. Just a dtupendous achievement. My favorite game so far this year and one of my favorites in a long time. Just hit everything right with me. My only criticism is that i wanted more haha.
