The combat director of DMC5 stated that he already believes that Clive would dominate Dante. But I feel like what they are forgetting is how insanely OP they made Dante. Clives ultimate form is his Ifrit form. But if you take a look into DMC1 and one of it’s first devil arms, Ifrit. Ifrit states, “I am Ifrit, all of those who awaken me shall suffer my flame.” and he locks himself onto Dante. Dante then makes Ifrit his kitten. Devil arms are the souls of demons. Most likely Mundus or a lesser demon or warrior slayed Ifrit and was kept on Mallet Island. Dante battled Mundus three times and won each time after Mundus kept coming back. Dante then with a little bit more of power from Trish was able to seal away Mundus. Mundus literally created a whole new universe to battle Dante in, and Dante overpowered Mundus in most of the fights.

And then comes Argosax, a Demon that was more or less stronger than Mundus which was said to destroy Universes by existing. Dante literally shoots a regular bullet into Argosax’s head and kills the demon. Dante Must Win.

Honestly, when it came down to Final Fantasy characters that’s not from VII, I didn’t expect Clive Rosfield to be Dante’s opponent.

theres actually a really similar protagonist to clive, both are warforged swordsmen who turn into kaijus. Haku from the Utawarerumono sequels turns into a giant waterbender Lizard. To answer the title question, no, Clive is definitely strong, but he ain’t FFXIV Warrior of Light strong! Most of the boss battles in the MSQ (main story quest) are also against Eikons/Primals, with the weakest of them easily at mountain/country level, and the strongest at least at solar system level! And we canonically solo most of them!

Clive’s pretty tough, but just remember that for every wild and insane thing you see him fight and kill in his game, the player character from FFXIV has done it about 10 times and counting.

To answer the title, no. Lightning, Bartz, and Squall are stronger. Probably Luneth as well.

Lightning destroyed a creator god who was at the apex of his might.
Bartz killed Neo-ExDeath, that scales significantly above Ultimalius.
Squall canonically is the one who killed Ultimecia, who scales above Ultimalius.
Luneth put down the Cloud of Darkness, who is at least equal to Neo-Exdeath, potentially stronger.

This is gonna be a very one sided fight

Im gonna call it early that they don’t include Dante’s speed feat in DMC 5 where he outspeeds a Fury at a speed that basically shows he’s as fast as Quicksilver by default.

He moves faster than the Fury while the game shows a slowed down time to emphasise its speed. Just in case they argue Quicksilver is nerfed by DT charge.

I don’t think fire is very effective against Dante. Sure, Clive can fight giant monsters but so can Dante.
Dante also has more control over his demon form than Clive does with Ifrit.
Doesn’t Clive lack the regeneration of Dante?
Clive may be able to freeze time, but Dante has a similar ability. He might be able to neutralize this ability like he did with Bayonetta.
