Looking forward to seeing how this game turns out. Perhaps I’m getting too old for the franchise, but I miss the era of playful titles like FF9 & FFX with abundance of color, emotion, minigames and the wonderfully imagined fantasy worlds. It’s been a new flair since Lightning was introduced. All very serious and grim with more emphasis on staying more true to real life it seems.

I don’t know much about it but this game’s premise seems very similar to Final Fantasy Type-0 from what little I know, and also similar to Final Fantasy Versus XIII’s original concept. I wonder if this will finally be the Final Fantasy that attains the vision the series has been chasing for the last 16 years.

Finally. The summons were my favorite thing about FF series but they used to be extremely underutilized. Even in FFXV where they were important to the plot, they were still just back ground animations. But now, we will finally see their true involvement. (P.S. Maybe it will be a good game (I absolutely didnt like 15) but I dont see Final Fantasy here. We have Dragon Age, we have the Witcher. Why create another random medieval game and not usw what made Final Fantasy so special in the past up until FF13? A PS5 Final Fantasy that has an art creation like 9 would be so awesome. No remake, just something new. FF15 already was taking a very big step back from the “fantasy” since only humans were playling the main roles. Where is the fantasy gone?
The plot twist in FFXVI is that the crystals are actually evil and must be destroyed. The dominants were given their powers by the crystals, but once they discovered the true nature of the crystals…they decided to sacrifice themselves to save the world while the world itself turns against them. Ah shit, here we go again.
Was alerted to this by DigitalFoundry saying how much of an improvement it is over the older trailers. And…not impressed. The narration is already starts off underwhelming. Grandiose speech without the gravitas and pacing to back it up. It’s on the same level as all the fantasy mobile game ads you see for some terrible free-to-play timesink. Then we have the cheesy music, that sounds better suited for a circus performance. The graphics are no better than FFXV, which is no better than a higher resolution FFXIII on the PS3. The idiot rulers monologuing about conquest with their respective flags flying past is reminiscent of the many many terrible political fantasy anime I’ve seen that act bombastic but have political maneuvering and war strategy fit for a five year old. The fighting tries to be like Bayonetta or Devil May Cry, fast-paced and ADHD, without any grace or momentum. Oh how I pine for the dramatic flair of turn-based battles of yore. And the cherry on top? An overserious game with loads of camp and mentions of CHAOS.
Please be better than 15 😅

I miss the old stylized art style. This looks like they’re trying way too hard to make it overly realistic and anime ish. Final fantasy always had it’s anime characters but I have legitimately not cared about a single protagonist since FFX.

Joshua’s scream sounds different compared to the awakening trailer, now he actually sounds like a 10 year old
It reminds me a bit of Type-0 mixed with FFXV.
Type -0 with the different realms (with their different lifestyles and culture) not being on the best of terms with each other and it escalates into war, I guess you could say that about many FF games, but the atmosphere is reminiscent of that game (with blood being visibly present).
FFXV because of the style, scale, weapons and world building; the shadow becoming ever more powerful (the nights becoming longer in FFXV).
Nothing against this game.
-But the music that I see praised everywhere does not sound like FF, which I guess is reasonable since Uematsu is no longer there. There was a time when FF music was great and could stand on its own without 26 instruments playing at the same time. Limits in technology seem to have had great effect, while access and money bloats everything into heavy orchestra.
-The combat is not FF in any sense, and since it is being Devil may cry it is devil may cry
-The UI looks like Street fighter and with a combat log flashing on screen It seems like devil may cry even and Sreet fighter +training mode even more
-The characters for sure looks like FF XIV, but FF XIV is not all that is FF. Even the early FF games had flair, this has any Medieval MMO feeling and one problem with FF XII is that it was rather bland for many people.
If there is no party system, it fails to even recognize what Strange of Paradise did about FF.
-The lore seems to be a blend of previous FF games, but I guess that it is hard when there has been so many before.
I hope this game is great and have success but it is not how I want FF XVII to look or feel like, regardless of modern setting, Nomura character or whatever people will use as excuses to dismiss opinions.
As someone who is disappointed in Soken’s recent works, holy shit. The music is quite creative.

It might have been part of the franchise for a long time, but it has never been the true essence of Final Fantasy.
Final Fantasy is all about telling a story, and telling it grandiosely, with fantastic visuals, music and epic battles.
I am pretty sure the new combat system has created much more hype.
At the very least, much more than if they had shown some turn based combat with idle characters standing in front of idle monsters, each waiting for their turn to attack…
The comment section would’ve been full of jokes on how ridiculous it is…
Unless you want to stay stuck in the NES/SNES era, and cater to a very loud minority, you won’t reach out to new players.
Times are changing, tastes are changing, and if Final Fantasy cannot adapt to that it is doomed to fail.

Astonishing trailer. I can’t wait to put my hand on this game, everything is perfect. The conflict over limited ressources, Eikons serving as weapons of ultimate destruction, pain, sorrow, suffering in a dying world, with an amazing soundtrack, man, I’m already in love with this title. At this point, the gameplay is secondary for me. If the story is good, everything else doesn’t matter much….but I’m sure CBUIII are making a new masterpiece.

People really acting like this is so impressive, meanwhile I’m here waiting to see some compelling characters to care about. How have we not gotten a trailer that truly highlights the games characters? They all seem so forgettable as of right now.

Wow I’ve never felt so alone. Comments are really positive for this game. I must have really changed. Is it me or is FF just not what it once was? I’m 34. Brought up on 7 onwards and played earlier installments. This new 16 just looks like 14 and 15. Didn’t they used to change the art style? Think about how different 7 looks to 8, and 8 to 9 and so on. Now they just have one style now and keep renaming it. As long as it looks flashy people are eating that shit up. Think I’m still hurting from FF7 remake disappointment.

Final Fantasy has officially completely lost its original identity. I love me some good medieval type fantasy but this isnt what Final Fantasy is all about. This lacks any Japanese identity aside form a few pretty boys and the stupid face tattoos.

I noticed this problem in FF7R but it looks to have gotten worse with FFXVI: reduce the flashing effects in battle; it’s difficult to even see what’s going on when there are so many special flashy effects together mixed with buffs and debuffs. I say reduce the size and highlights of these effects by 75%.
The worldbuilding looks great, but the character animations are fairly underwhelming for 2022.
I’m getting really tired of fighting the evil empire’s forces of darkness in favor of the crystal’s forces of light. Lunafreya’s speech to Altissa from FFXV just destroyed whatever interest I had in hearing this tired and cliche story over and over again. Stop trying to retell variants of the LotR mythos; just write new stories.
It all looks very stylish and epic but until we see the combat and regular gameplay segments I’m not sold. Will we get deep and solid battles and gameplay in a world which isn’t just hallways and corridors or will we just get a load of crash bang wollop?

Looks amazing but I absolutely hate the dark tone. Final Fantasy was always a safe place for me to enjoy even slightly darker stories told in a rather tamed manner. Slicing the head off of a character which we previously interacted with is something that makes me super uncomfortable. And I fear that’s just one of many gruesome scenes. Too bad I’m always alone with this opinion.

Looks like they accidentally posted the new God of War trailer or some other generic cinematic action game. How embarassing.
It doesn’t look terrible but I barely recognize the Final Fantasy outside of the summons/icons and crystal mythology. The action combat really lowers my desire to play this game. It doesn’t seem like a party-based narrative driven game, but it feels like it would’ve made a great spin-off. I don’t recognize this series anymore, and that’s fine because they’re clearly aiming for a different audience now. I’m sure this will be big with western audiences. Graphics have improved and the music is super nice though. I’ll be playing FF7: Rebirth instead and maybe get this when its under 20 bucks.
I just have to be honest and say this is meh. Looks like every other medieval western inspired wrpg from a narrative standpoint. That kinda hasn’t been Final Fantasy since like FF4 and even that started to veer more into the territory of what made Japanese games special and different at the time. I understand that Final Fantasy 11 and 14 take this approach, which I think works well in a MMO setting, but this kind of reeks of wanna-be Game of Thrones slash Elden Ring with sprinkles of DMC. I’m sure it’ll be a good game, yes, maybe (I wasnt one of the people who thought FF14 was anything special, but only sufficed at being better than other mmos story-wise). I just want Final Fantasy back…. but Square-Enix is chasing the west where the real money is at, so they’ve forgotten their niche fans who liked these games when they had their own identity.
It’s fine though. My expectations for this series have been low since Sakaguchi left and Yoshi-P is no savior. This game is gonna satisfy his devout following and not do much else. To be fair his audience is quite large and maybe that is enough, but whether this game success or not, it’ll be without many of the aspects that made the later half of the golden era of Final Fantasy games special.

Well it looks good. Let’s see if it is good. They haven’t had anything really blowing peoples socks off except 14. Personally I haven’t played 14 I’m an old school fan. I Hope it’s less linear than the remake felt. I felt like 15 had the right idea but didn’t execute. It needed way more work in battle systems , enemies, upgrading and little details to be added. But the concept was there. I hope this is an improvement from a long time fan

My theory on that last Eikon is that it is Diablos. They will take The Attack On Titan route and Ifrit absorbs Phoenix power to become Diablos. Maybe Diablos is the original Eikon of fire and was so much of a threat that The Iron Kingdom and Roasaria split the power of the mother crystal that they share thus creating two separate dominants and a truce between them. They use their brute force and fear against the dominants to erase Diablos from history because they fear its return. This is why their faith involves slaughtering dominants. Out of fear these two will merge again. Ifrits dominant who survives being killed in The Iron Kingdom finds out about this and takes it upon himself to be “whole” again. Maybe he is suffering from the Blight and seeks immortality. Maybe hes just a psychopath. I think Ifrits dominant will be related to the head priest of The Iron Kingdom. Maybe his son or something and does seek to “consume” all the dominants so that they can become something greater such as Ultima. Maybe he doesn’t follow their religious doctrine. Maybe he’s angry they tried to kill him. Maybe he’s just a psychopath. I dont know. I do think that he will absorb Pheonix and come to the realization he can do this with all the dominants which puts Clive who somehow gains a fraction of this ability through blessings on a path to unite the dominants and the nations against a common enemy. Would love to have a dialog about this with people.

Wow the visuals looks so detailed and minutely sculpted. I can see a level of fidelity that’s currently present in ffxiv, like old school sharp-edged pc graphics but just with modern higher textures. It’s definitely a unique and great look for a new entry by Yoshi P.

My jaw just dropped — this looks unbelievably good. Like, everything from the landscapes, characters, world-building, story, music, visual designs and gameplay, it all looks astounding. I really wish I’ll be able to play this at launch
Honestly, the story, design, and environment might look great – almost in line with the actual european sensibilities it tries to emulate. But the fact that it features stupid looking people, moving in stupid looking ways, holding stupid looking swords while making stupid looking expressions just brings everything down. Its the step in the right direction but at the end of the day it’s barely any different from the never-dirty nonsense spouting plastic people in the other Final fantasies.

Everything looks good except the combat which looks like DMC and GOW together. (I Hate QTE’s). It seems too much like FF13-3 to me. Souls combat is so much better and Elden Ring showed the perfect way to handle summons. Or heck they could have gone with Nioh like combat which is soulslike but a bit more over the top. So much they could have done and they simply chose poorly.
Late July or Early August would be an amazing release window, js. Lol. Give us 4-6months before releasing FF7Rebirth. Up to 7months?*

I’m impressed…..I still don’t have a good handle on what this story is really about, but from what I can see here, the Dominants…..turning into their Eikon forms seem to pain them, or something like that. After all, the last trailer *”Dominance”* said something about such power wearing away at a Dominant’s being. They can even tap into their inner Eikon abilities by partially transforming into their Eikon forms, and the gameplay definitely looks intriguing. Most certainly not anything like I’ve seen before, when it comes to Final Fantasy…..and it definitely seems to be a war between the Eikon’s alright…..but why? Why are the Dominants fighting each other? For control? Perhaps…..guess it depends on the Dominant and their aspirations. I just wonder what Clive’s role is in all of this (as he’s the main protagonist of Final Fantasy XVI), and at 0:33, I wonder if those are his party members….if so, this will be the first time since *1997’s Final Fantasy VII* (I’m certain) that will showcase an on-all-4’s type party member like *Red XIII* from that exact game, if they happen to fight alongside you. Either way…..I can’t wait for this game to *finally* come out. Now, we’re all in a new era of *Final Fantasy.*

There are indeed some Game of Thrones vibes mixed with Ivalice flavor regarding the kingdoms and the overall ambience, but in a good way. Soken-sama did it great justice music-wise, as usual :-). And I like how everything become insane and intense starting the second half.
Hopefully we will have a full gameplay showcase or a demo soon! Looking forward to see more about FFXVI <3.
