Jill is an A tier character and I will accept nothing less
I loved the characters in FF16 and their interactions with eachother is by far the most realistic depiction of how caring adults treat eachother I’ve seen. I just wish the combat was more RPG, and not DMC-lite
i loved the spicy story but i wish the game was a little harder (or that you didn’t have to beat the game to get hard mode)
Hi,
Hate FF16 never. Not only do I own it on PS5 & PC. It’s gameplay is very close to a game I hope to start work on soon. That said, much like Stranger Of Paradise. I don’t think either game got a fair shake. No game is perfect. But if i’m supposed to act like those games are bad. Because they’re not FF “enough.” Welp I can’t do that, cause I think they’re great, flawed but great.
Take care & have a good one
Jill is the embodiment of Chivalry. She’s almost like a reincarnation of Agrias from FF Tactics. Historically, the term “chivalry” which is related to “cavalry” has been typically assigned to describe male behavior in protecting and serving the physically weaker people, young, old, ill, etc in a society.
But the term equally applies to females as well in how they protect and serve those they love.
Part of the reason why Jill’s (and Agrias) characters are relatively stagnant is because they are chivalry incarnated. Chivalry and rule of law are always meant to be as unchanging as possible to prevent chaotic outcomes for people.
Another take that a friend and I had about Joshua’s younger design, was that his hair resembled that of a baby chick , much like his eikon phoenix , it resembles his youth and adolescence
the analysis was very eye opening and gave me a whole new perspective on the game, I think I might actually go back and replay it again. ALSO the parallels of between Clive and Dante and and Barnadas and Vergil is crazy, considering one of the combat directors from DMC5 worked in this game. So calling it a dmc clone sounds like a compliment to me lmao
I don’t doubt the game was made with a lot of care and thought. But that doesn’t translate much to being true to the foundational tenants of the franchise. I played the first half of the game. Thought it was a fine game. Nothing to write home about but also nothing egregiously bad. It was a functional character action game. But it wasn’t an RPG. Much less a JRPG. They committed the cardinal sin of trying to make a western game. They wanted to make a popcorn flic CoD bombastic game dressed in Game Of Thrones. The Japanese games industry learned back in the early 2000’s to stop trying to make games that cater to the western audience. And yet, here we are. Tossing the FF franchise aside, abandoning its heritage to make a game for the mountain dew hyped up gen Z streamers to make over blown reactions to. That’s why I don’t like FF16. Not because I’m a “hater” but because I’m a lover of JRPGs and hate to see my favorite franchise disrespected by claiming it doesn’t appeal enough. As a long time fan, it’s also insulting to be told by the director that he doesn’t care that we won’t be in favor of the shift because he’s more concerned about garnering the attention of younger generations that instead like bombast and shallow systems.
Margaret Qualley?
clive sumon efriet 🙂↔️
I would like to make a comment on Benedikta’s sex appeal or how clever it is with setting of the game. Obviously this is a medieval setting so wearing revealing outfits make little sense. But she wears a bodysuit to highlight her figure. She doesn’t reveal any skin but you can tell she weaponizes her sex appeal by highlighting her figure, to remain in control of a situation. Someone who, very unfortunately, learned at a young age that her beauty is an asset she can use to get what she wants.
(Out of anxiety, i will highlight that i am gay guy, who wanted to express an interpretation 😅)
clovergirl, YOU ROCK!
Fun fact, in the soon-to-be realised Magic the gathering Final Fantasy Crosover, they nicknamed Ifrit as “Warden of Inferno” and Phoenix as “Warden of Fire”, just some food for thoughts
Do Final Fantasy 13 next!! (Or maybe lightning returns?)
Honestly I think one of the most fashionable yet most under talked about/ unloved (by both fans and the FF makers themselves considering how they nerf Blue Mages in most games) I personally would love a video both bringing awareness to and talking about the fashion of the Blue.
Also, Clive’s imperial armor is completely gray to show how dark he became as a slave knight… yet there are some little red straps around his shoulder, which could mean that, for all his darkness, there is still some fire inside him
a detail in clive’s design i really like that goes in line with your analysis is that in his black and red rosaria outfit is that that little bit of white representing his remaining his remaining innocence is located in the middle of his chest area, alluding that while he has shielded himself (red and black parts) that pureness and innocence from his youth is still a core part of him. Coincidentally it’s also where he safekeeps his brother’s phonenix feather, going in line with the themes of brotherhood; clive protects joshua but joshua also has taken upon the duty of protecting his brother. Totally agree with you that the characters were designed with a lot of heart!
Great video and I absolutely thinks there’s tons of merit on your description of these characters. I noticed the difference between Clive and Joshua having Clive with darker red and black and Joshua with lighter red and white and knew it had to mean something
Please do Devil May Cry 4
Ok first, you just made me jump on Amazon to buy the FF16’s Artbook 😂
I was not a hater of 16 but was very very skeptical. Now that I finished the game, I must say it grew on me a lot. But I can see many flaws (what game doesn’t have them ?), particularly in the treatment of many characters and relationships. 15 has many issues cause of a hell development but I just love the dynamic between the bros, FF7RR is so well done and here too, the dynamic is really good.
I really like that in 16 that more realistic side for costumes. Sometimes, just something that bothers me a little and it’s something I can see in many « Europe an inspired » medieval fantasy takes in media (manga, manhwa, video games), it’s that Victorian / Edwardian/ Rococo/Baroque inspirations with very medieval base. It’s weird, but it’s just my personal view lol. When you want something officially more steampunk it’s ok but when it’s medieval it feels a little off.
In FF16, it’s quite good and I loved the Dalmekian fashion ! Valisthea is not their entire world but a twin continent, I wished we could have dlc about the rest of the world. Would be cool to have medieval Asian mix or a country mixing something about precolombian or even ancient Egypt and Greece architecture and fashion !! Something really different and exotic if I may say.
I admit I’m not a fan of FFXVI gameplay-wise, but I definitely liked its story, characters and design. Couldn’t resist getting the artbook either, in fact. Your video helped me appreciate these elements even more, so thank you for sharing your thoughts! 😄
Found this video as someone recommended it on twitter and I’ve been watching a few of your fashion and character design videos of yours, they’re really interesting, great job!
ff16 was my first Final Fantasy game and I loved it. Thought the story was pretty solid, though the ending was kinda bad, and I loved how they handled Jill and Clive’s romance/overall arcs.
Great video! I would die for a Clair Obscur one!
its so cool how people find symbolism in EVERYTHING 😭i completely glossed over their clothes. i just thought they looked cool
Please check claire obscure expedtion 33 fashion. Game is unapologetically french so designs look gorgeous.
The character designer is Kazuya Takahashi. He was previously one of the illustrators for FFXIV between A Realm Reborn and Stormblood (2.0-4.0).
Thank you so much for your take on Jill, felt like I was losing it hearing everybody talk about how she doesn’t fight much throughout the story despite the fact her powers already have her on deaths door when we meet her
oh i’ve been waiting for this one. yeah!!
I liked FF16 but I never finished it. It got too tedious since I always try to 100% games and it had too much stuff to do. And the boss fights were too epic. I was so mentally and physically drained after each fight with the icons. A great game that could have been a bit shorter. I think I played through about 80% of the game.
Imo, the strongest aspect of ff16 was the overall aesthetics. The world and characters design is so good, I hope we get another main line ff that uses/ draws inspiration from ff16 for its characters
God, I forgot how cool Barnabas looks without the armor.
This woman is so fine, love the vids and the attire you chose 🫶 woof
In other words you’re breaking down fashion “eikons”…..thank you, ill be here all week
I loved XVI to death, such a modern take on the gool old FF tropes mixed into a fresh gameplay. Being an older brother also makes it hit a little harder than usual
Great video!
Clive’s Drip is one of the greatest video game design i ever seen👍
ff16 is sooo gorgeously designed! i really didn’t like the writing at all, but the eikons, fashion, and gameplay were amazing and i do plan to replay it at some point. i’d love to hear you talk about 10 (my favourite) 😀
Thx 🙏
I admit that i find jill really beautiful. I think I’m more attracted to her than any other female FF characters.
I love these designs a lot, i think Kupka’s gold rings and belt tell more about his wealth and how he shows his power, with riches and brawn, tho of course your take is sensible too.
As for Barnabas, it came to mind as you spoke of his blue theme that Ultima’s color is blue too, showing how Barnabas surrendered his whole being to Ultima
This was such a cool video! Loved it! ❤ God bless you!
great vid would love to hear your thoughts on ff15(rick owen’s), ff8 (chrome hearts), ff13(louis vuitton)
Very entertaining video since I liked a lot FFXVI and I liked how you connected the dots between design and lore/story!
I’m looking for more analysis on your channel by subscribing! I got very attracted by some comments here about a KH analysis and I don’t want to miss that!😂
I guess you could say you’re a… fashion eikon! I’ll show myself out….
I love character design and fashion so your content is great
Ironically, I kinda felt Barnabas and Clive looked far too similar that I forgot he was a character half way though FF16. He didn’t stand out as much as the other Villains and by the time he showed up I was super confused as to who he was. lol
Why were people hating on the game in the first place? This game did really well.
i see dion in the thumbnail i click
out of curiosity, what initially about ff16 struck you wrong, and how did that opinion change? How does it rank among the other entries?
While I did have issues with 16’s narrative and some of its game design, I’m really glad that the character design definitely shines through especially after playing through XIV and seeing all of Kazuya Takahashi’s artwork
Does she has instagram? Asking for a friend
great video! would love to hear your thoughts on FFXV fashion, or even KH fashion!
OOOO ANOTHER CLOVERGIRL VIDEO!!!!! 🍿🍿🍿
literally know nothing about 16 toher then they have good fashion sense
Quistis trepe? Is that you?
The fits in this FFXVI really have a lot of detail put into them it’s pretty insane. Each characters outfit really explains a lot from how their personality may be, to what powers or Eikon they may have, to where they’re from within Valisthea. Awesome stuff!
I love your outfit so much it’s like your Jill for your own story. 🤍
Love the outfit! I would also love to hear more about the historical fashion connections when they come up. I find it fascinating, and have enjoyed when you jump into it in past videos as well. Thank you for this breakdown! Your insight, enthusiasm, and effort are always top notch!
Nice
Hell yeah FFXVI 🔥🔥🔥
As a New fan of ff16, who started with 15 and 16, (now started playing chronologically and on 4), I really like the game but can understand long time fans problems with it. I still really like Clive as a protagonist and it has my favorite Cid so far in my journey with the series.
Finally youtube is recommending me quality gaming content. Absolutely wonderful video!
5:27 just like daedric armor of Skyrim
Yeah I like your content but I love your Skyrim playthrough last episode was like a month ago
What happened to that
I don’t want to be spoiled so I’m not going to watch this but here is my comment and my like because I love your content
Oh snap! Let’s go! I love XVI. Over time, I’m sure more FF fans will begin to appreciate it for what kind of game it is.
Would love for you to talk about some of the other characters and how they reference other FF jobs like the dad being a warrior or Charon as a black mage.
In FF8 they were called GirlFriends and they made you forget everything. 🙂
I need a room tour. I need to see dem shelves up close!
OMG YEEEEES
Expedition 33 next?
I loved your dedication to the Jill look as well. It’s really good, but I can’t imagine how hot that was inside so I hope you turned down the house temp!😂
I was actually excited for 16 since parts of the 14 team were responsible for it and I’m a 14 Stan to the core. It was a good experience, I have issues with game systems and the story beats but I was pleased and enjoyed my run through the game. Will be going back soon to finish my plat.
It is leagues and bounds better than anything found in 15 so it saved a lot of my faith in the series after getting burned by that piece of shit game
you have incredible bone structure
Going slightly beyond fashion; Kupka’s eyes are the same green as Garuda’s wind and given the nature of Kupka’s character it makes sense, Benedikta is his greatest treasure or to put it more literally, he only has eyes for her.
Absolutely love hearing you talk about this stuff that I have never thought about, it’s fascinating. (Have you ever played Chrono Trigger btw?)
Pretty bland designs imo.
Nomura would never
I like your Jill inspired outfit! It’s a shame lots of people don’t seem to like Jill or think she’s boring. I think she’s great and I love the scene where she gets revenge on Imreann.
I love this.
I don’t like ff16 in comparison to the others but this kept me glued the whole time, this is a testament to your dope vids! 🙂
So excited everytime you drop another fashion vid!! 💕🎉
oh HELL YES. This game is GOATED screw the haters
Well, I guess I’m into video game character clothing critique now xD
NEW CLOVERGIRLIE. Day is saved.
I did not know there was a FF16 until this video lmao
The fit in this one is 🔥
Under 1hr gang
Literally was just thinking when you would upload another video then I open YouTube and here it is let’s go!
Great video! I thought the kupka portion was really well done.
