I like 16 because of the simplicity, it felt like playing older ps3, ps2 games- the world design, dialogues and color of the game and the linear not open world bloated with minigames u know, simple go to game u just sit back, play, enjoy story and combat. i just started the pc ver, nver played bfore. so i dont know how it played out going mid and end game, but intro seems lit, battle of summons is fun and im all for the story here, the story is good oh and, i feel in love with Benedikta, She’s hot lol

This is absolutely not an RPG! There are almost no elements of an RPG in this game. That being said though, I loved the story and characters of 16! Also had alot of fun with the combat. Definitely worth playing for sure

FFXVI does have elements of tactics in it, in that it integrates lots of political elements (similar to FFXII). However, the way it delivers the lore and world builds was excruciating. (Way WAY too much NPC time, my god). Story telling and pacing was horrendous that I had to stop playing altogether. Combat wasn’t bad, but wasn’t anything groundbreaking either; mediocre if anything, given the lack of any strategy needed nor customization options provided when balanced with flashy visuals. Disappointing because the music is SO good and is only reflective of how great the game COULD have been 😢

I just started this game on my Pc. I grew up watching my older brother play FF7 on PS1 and my first game to beat was tactics. I’ve since beat all the main installments and this game has been everything I dreamed of as a kid playing tactics imagining what the fight and summons would have looked like. I’m only like 15 hours in to the story but it hasn’t disappointed the long wait for a pc version.

I want to understand why yall like the story. It seemed so cliche and boring to me. It looks good. Ran good. Had some good elements in it’s story but almost every plot they pick up they put it back down before it can really develop.

I just bought this game. I love it and have been playing it on the regular. I was not a big fan of the turn based style of previous games so this one is right for me.

The game practically plays for you. I have hardly taken any damage in the first 10hours. Cut scene after cut scene after cut scene. There is little to none actuall gameplay apart from button mashing fights which are way to easy. But yeah the game looks nice

This game is currently out for PC im debating getting it. Honestly i just wanted to see the cutscenes and the story. So was just F it ill watch the “movie” posted on the YouTube. Seeing the combat tho, it looks like they almost were going to release the game for mobile at first. This game is definitely an action game not a rpg definitely not a Jrpg. Think Metal Gear Rising. Which I am not opposed to Final Fantasy can be whatever it wants, it has the core Final Fantasy elements with Summons, magic, warring nations, chocobos, some recuring character “names”…etc etc

I missed this game and have 2 weeks off coming up. I compeltely saw it as Devil May final fantasy after the first trailer and checked out completely. I never thought I woukdnt even notice when a mainline FF game got released but here we are.

Thinking of giving it a go. I still hate the fact there’s only one playable character in a button bashy action game set up. Can’t decide if I can get passed that. I also think Clive’s voice actor did a horrible job from the little I’ve heard. Which is something I’ve never felt about a final fantasy game before

First 20 or so seconds of this movie is a lie. FF16 is the worst numbered entry in the series I have played and this starts at FF3 (not 6). FF16 has decent story until there are human antagonists, after this (around2/3rd of the game) it get’s boring, REALLY boring.
Game lacks FF climate and mechanics while it has all the flaws from previous entries people were complaining about.
It is an OK game, but a terrible Final Fantasy. If you want some modern action-oriented approach to Final Fantasy, Stranger of Paradise is much better choice.

Agree 100% i just bought XVI two weeks ago and absolutely love it. I can relate also because i literally bought a PS5 just so i can play FFVII Remake/Rebirth despite being an Xbox owner for the last ten years and owning dozens of games for it. Totally worth it and although VII will always hold the title in my nostalgic heart, XVI is my second favorite FF game ever and i have zero complaints about the game.

I lieraly just bought a ps5 for this game and the demo was amazing it should of be a nominee in the games of the year ,the only thing that bothered me was that the weapon progression was really linear (flamethonge does not increase fire damage , armor only increases defence and thats it etc.) and that there is no enemy elemental weaknesses neaning (an attack that deals 40 fire damage will alsow deal 40 dameage as ice element) but maibe more dlc comes our way with the pc version

The story is decent but as a game, has to be one of the worst PS exclusives of all time. It was my first FF game and it seemed like you don’t have to do much. The game gives little to no challenge at all. The devs clearly spent more time with the cutscenes and completely binned the actual gameplay. Rubbish.

I got a QLED 65 inch with Soundbar and deep bass, its was beautiful combat and Aikon fights, along with the Music. I give it 8/10 and new game + on Fantasy mode makes the fights more crazy

There’s no elemental damage system so getting new powers doesn’t matter. All of the best characters die except the one u spend most of the game thinking is dead. Jill is criminally underdeveloped and under utilized. They casually let you know your dog is a GOD, then they never address it again. The final boss is a blue version of Ifrit with one wing soooo…yea. The DLC doesn’t change anything about the ending to the game. And once again the story is just a “God is evil now so lets kill em” because Final Fantasy doesn’t know how to do anything else. Masterpiece? Hardly.

Great story and mechanics. I definitely got a Devil May Cry feel from this one. I personally like this style and the FF7 Remake style that seems closer to FF12 zodiac age. Square Enix should continue to drop both formats for separate games in the future. I’d play both! I like the combo capabilities of ff16. I do miss the old school summons that are more cinematic and do devastating damage, but on the plus side I love the Eikon battles in FF16. They are epic and you feel full immersed in the game during those segments.

FF16 is a great game. I too grew up playing final fantasy from the original on the NES system. This is by far in my top three favorites. The graphics are amazing. The combat is great but slightly limited by how many abilities you can have equipped at one time. The storyline is amazing and thrilling. It keeps you wanting to know what happens next. It has a fair balance between linear exploring and open world exploration. If you do get this game, I highly implore you to get the DLC.

It was a good game, the worst part by far was how easy it was to demolish mobs of enemies by mashing square. No need for any strategy. Might as well replace 6 of them with 1 more interesting enemy.

The reason I think people shit on the open world is because it was all designed to look like country side england. I personally didn’t mind too much, but I understand the complaint.

This was my first FF game and I enjoyed it for the most part, but I felt like the story dragged too often to keep me hooked 100% of the time. Boss battles were some of the best I’ve ever played, the game was beautiful, but the lack of rpg mechanics and pretty boring character progression made it feel like a chore to play through at a certain point.

I just finished FFVII Remake for the first time and I enjoyed that a ton more. It took me half the time to play through that game than what it did for FFXVI and I didn’t even finish it. I got very close to the end but didn’t feel like pushing myself to play it anymore just so I could see the next boss fight.

This game sucks. The 1st dmc had a better battle system. The game is more linearly than ff13. I Completed 40% and I can’t remember the girl or the dogs name. Magic is worthless. Sidequest are boring as hell. Every enemy is the same. Every stage is the same. Fight baddies, then mini boss, than big boss, and then stupid big boss. Characters have no depth. They all could die and I wouldn’t care if I had no pre-death save. Lastly, They turned it into a foul mouthed fantasy with a hint of soft core sprinkled on top.

On my third playthrough now that i finished Echoes of the Fallen can’t get enough

It is 100% Devil May Cry Final Fantasy. The things they neglected to incorporate into the game and combat that are prevalent in every single Final Fantasy game before it speak volumes. The game is flashy and meant to wow with special effects and bug boss fights. But once you play for a few hours and really get into the meat of the game, all of the little details really add up. Every boss battle, and I mean EVERY boss battle is approached exactly the same as every other fight in the game. There’s no prep for any fight at all that’s needed. Gil, items, equipment, and loot mean next to nothing in the game. Each fight can be approached with dodge, dodge, stagger, attack, rinse, and repeat, and it will get you through the whole game with the only variations to that being how you use the Eikonic abilities. No strategy. No status effects. No elemental discrepancies despite having every Eikon on your belt with different elemental dispositions. There isn’t a Final Fantasy game out there that is that lazy with combat. The only thing that rings true is that the story and VA is incredible which is a standard element in FF games. This game is meant to wow with flashy combat rather challenge and lacks replay ability. Unfortunately that is the farthest thing from Final Fantasy.

Went on steep sale in November. If you have a PS5 but didn’t want to pay full price, now is the time to snag a copy and give it a play through. They’re adding a patch some time in December to change the way the Arcade mode leaderboards calculate as well, which is the “endgame” mode. I loved XVI, even if it’s not my favorite from a mechanical perspective (VII Remake nailed modern gameplay better.)

Calling this a masterpiece is bordering on instanity.. Most combat fights can be done with your eyes closed.. The side quests are as bad as it gets.. Boss battles start of good but somehow get worse as the game goes on . Boring boring boring

I bought the game a couple of days ago and I am loving it so far. The constant long cutscenes were getting annoying at first, but I started investing more into the story and am enjoying it. It’s filled with fetch quests for both side quest and in the main quest.. the fighting is fun but gets boring quickly..reminds me of DMC. Is n9t worth the price imo.

Dont be fooled this game is NOT a RPG. No party members, no interesting leveling and skill system build, no strategy to fights. Just a repetitive easy to use combat system that requires little thought.

I grew playing classic rpgs like ff7, 8, 9, tactics … And 16 is more of an action RPG. It has RPG elements implemented in the game. HP, leveling system, magic, etc. Square enix in the past has been blurring the lines between turn base and active. This is straight up hack and slash style rpg. 16 reminds me of 15 but 16 seems better. Just my opinion. I love most of the Final fantasy games. Can’t wait to see what they do with the next game.

FF was the first rpg game I ever played but ff16 probably was the biggest let down since cyberpunk. Hurts to say as much of a FF & FF14 fan I am but 16 just hasn’t clicked yet. The story seems like it prolonged to the point half the dialogue is irrelevant. Boss fights aren’t necessarily challenging; it’s just a matter of do you have the flexibility to devote 20-40 mins for one boss then another 15 for cutscenes before and after. This one just didn’t click with me which sucks to say. It just feels like 15% combat 85% in a cs or slowly walking to the next cs

Nah. Game play is super boring and becomes stale halfway through the game. Main character has a boring personality. Side quests and main quests are repetitive. Lack of strategizing options in battle. Near zero control over party members, except for Torgal. No rewards for exploration. No variety in weapons, items. Music is average. Only good points are story and world building and visuals. 5/10 game, still better than 15 tho 🤷‍♂️

I never played a final fantasy game and I just picked this up on sale thru psn for 55 dollars and ima be sooooo honest with y’all lmao this shit was 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥😭I think I’m about 90 percent thru the main story I just beat Odin which was to me the hardest fight in the game so far BUT I can say one thing my only problem with this game is the stale combat system it’s feel likes a square mashing fest with a couple of tricks here and there with the eikon ability’s but over all I’ll give the game a solid 9.5 out of 10 it would be 10 if it had more benefits to exploration and a better combo system I feel like single player story driven games nowadays really do dial back the combat systems and make them to stale

RPG stands for “Role Playing Game”. Why is everyone getting the concept of something else entirely different that being turn based is the defining idea for RPG…? You play in a fantasy world, you interact with the world around you, side quests etc. You’re playing the role of a main character in a game.

No it’s not worth it. I finished the game and did all the side quests. It is not worth it at all. I can’t believe they got away with useless QTE, barren world, linear paths and zero RPG elements. It’s like I was forcing myself to play just to see what the story was and it really left me feeling lackluster I didn’t even cry at the end. Final fantasy 15 royal editionis leagues ahead of this game.

I’m about halfway done or so and I will say for me, it’s a return to form on their storytelling. As said, on par with tactics. The music is a beautiful mix of everything final fantasy for the past 30 years. Fans will recognize the previous themes scattered throughout. Combat-wise, while nothing new, somehow every battle has weight and feels like a boss battle. Tad on the easy side for a veteran, but overall fun and the eikon battles are some of the most impressive shit I’ve ever seen. Worth every penny.

Like that map section where you can see world map changing and your moves on it. It discribes everything so clearly. YOu will never doubt what is going on here. Trivia is so good.

This is not a king FF game, it’s one of the worst ever made. This game was a super easy plat, not difficult at all. Even though the story starts great, and there are great parts in the mid game story, all the side quests beside the chocobo suck. The end of the story fights are cool, but it feels too predictable without saying any spoilers. Also should be illegal to have a FF game with no mini games. I found myself getting so bored with the game too many times, it’s basically just an interactive movie. The best part of the game besides the graphics are the hunts and the leveling system almost makes you feel like you aren’t playing a FF game, i understand you can call a game an RPG just by having a character with a developing story, but you have zero say in everything. It’s not what you would call an RPG in the traditional sense, its more of an action game than anything else. The stores are useless, and pretty much the blacksmith is just linear and boring. Im also not a fan of chapters, it worked in 10 but not here, open world is always better. Overall I’m just disappointed in this game. Graphics (10, gorgeous), story (8, had more potential), gameplay (4, too easy), leveling system (2, boring), side quests (0, pointless), extras (0, non existent). The game is sadly a 4.5/10. I had so much expectations, and was let down at every corner, only to see a glimer of something that was potentially more, only to be let down again. If we are be real, the game looks gorgeous, and that’s it, it’s one of the most shallow FF games ever made. I would place this behind almost all FF games except 13. FF15 seems like it was light years ahead of this game even though it’s 7 years older and was cut short for time. Never going to pick this game up again, it felt like a chore just to get the plat, where usually it’s more fun.

I really really don’t get the praise, I feel like I’m playing a different game to everyone else! To me, It’s a series of over-long and tedious cutscenes with a boring plot that I totally disengaged from quite quickly. In between the boring waffle when you occasionally get to control the character, the areas are too linear and don’t give any sense of rewarding exploration. I don’t mind linear levels but they need to be well designed and interesting like god of war, rather than bland and generic like here. The combat, which is the games strongest point, is flashy and fluid and felt great at first but soon got repetitive. The OTT flashy animations and moves are basically concealing the fact that it’s actually a very shallow combat system-the same repetitive pattern of dodge/attack moves over and over with no real skill or tactics required. It’s also often so chaotic you can’t even see what’s happening. Side quests are generic filler. The icing on the disappointing cake is the performance. Performance mode is ugly and looks low res (as low as 720p in combat) and has huge frame rate dips. Some characters faces looked so soft and pixelated I felt like I was on a ps3. Doesn’t feel next gen at all. Quality mode is so choppy it made me feel Ill. Total waste of time in my opinion.

I did not grow up playing Final Fantasy as I was born in 2010 but my dad got me very interested in some older games one of which was FF I highly recommend playing them all for in my opinion it is the 2nd best game series of all time. ( btw FF16 is🔥)

The game is amazing. And I understand, I’m about to do the same for Starfield as far as spending money is concerned.

My price tag was higher. I didn’t just get a PS5. I finally upgraded my TV to 4K and a larger size. Was happy that I saved up for this. Beat the game…totally worth it 😁.

XVI truly is a masterpiece. It’s the most Final Fantasy that the series has been for a long while now.

This is not a final fantasy game. The story is fine, it’s nothing new that hasn’t been told in literally any other FF title.

Visually yes, gorgeous and what you come to expect from the brand.

The combat has erred to align with more contemporary hack and slash titles but is significantly watered down. Certainly a step up from FF15 where you just mash one button… now you can hit three. Call me old fashioned but I liked the days where you character had multiple skills to choose from that they learned over the course of the game. I wish SE would take FF back to its roots with multiple playable characters, classes, and an actual challenge :.

Quests are the worst part about this game, which is so tragic because side content was always the most amazing thing in FF titles – hunts, scouring high level dungeons, actual threatening battles / open worlds… this game has dumbed it down so hard. Another wasted potential of a title, and it’s sad to see that this is the depature of the old rpg way into this modern let-me-hold-your-hand era.

Im a first time Final Fantasy player. Just finished the game minutes ago.

The combat system is fun, but like others said i think its far from innovative. Side quests were boring.

To me what i truly played it for was the story. Its not even the best story but i still got so attached to the characters that i still got emotional with the ending. I even predicted it would end among those lines yet i still became emotional.

Its definitely a game worth playing. Just don’t expect too much out of the gameplay and instead enjoy it for what it really is.

It got me as emotional as the ending of Avengers Endgame.

I think it’s an awesome game and the story is phenomenal. But the RPG parts of it are really my only problem.

Just finished the first play through. I loved loved loved the story, the combat, the charecters. was it the greatest story ever told? no. But the ending I thought did it justice. alot of people wanted a different ending but in my opinion, it was the best one they could do. loved it!

Experiencing the boss fights is worth the $70

16 feels like a nice return to its roots. There’s a lot of stuff in the game that reminds me of FF 1, 2, 4 and 6 especially.

I’m about 25 hours in and burnt out on it.

It had me very interested in the beginning but the loop of combat, walk a few steps, cutscene has now lost me.

I find the combat tedious as every encounter plays out the same: square combo, dump your Eikon abilities, wait for cooldown then repeat. Only difference on bigger or boss enemies is to stagger them and use your limit break as well.

Some boss encounters and story elements really worked for me but shallow RPG mechanics, repetitive combat, non-existent inventory / item management, little reason to explore environments for loot, and other things like that don’t work for me.

Obviously the visuals, music, and overall presentation are great but I would take an “old school” turn-based experience like 7 through 10 over this any day. I’d even take 12 over this easily.

I have played around 90%. Yes, 100% worth it, it is so freaking good. The combat is so much fun, I love all the characters, the music is godly and the story has kept me invested all the time.

Generic Revenge plot, unchallenging button mashing, Godzilla fights, explosions!, horrendous acting, bland characters… Yeah, no.

Short answer Yes, but does depend on the gamer too and their preference. If you like action combo based gameplay with emphasis on timed dodges/parries then you will like this. The game is linear but they did a great job from the storytelling, voice acting, soundtrack that you get caught up in the game and won’t want to put it down. My personal complaints are that it seems a bit easy for my tastes granted I’m a heavy Souls/Nioh fan—but I will play the higher difficulty setting when I pass it & the side quests are pretty mid/lackluster.

No builds, no weaknesses, no difference of gameplay as everyone will play the exact same way. Linear world with little to no exploration, hack and slash which dilutes everything the cutscenes setup.

Just finished playing the demo, the story was the same old same old nothing new. The characters were all depressing to be around. The fighting, you can beat everyone just pressing square button repeatedly. The big monster battles you can’t see a thing of what’s happening the camera is so close to their bodies and that awful camera shake doesn’t help, just keep pressing triangle and you win. I’ll wait for it to be a free game on ps plus.

This game is GOTD for me as a player (game of the decade). Haven’t enjoyed an ff title like this since ps2 days. It even puts XIV to shame considering it’s a one and done game not spread across multiple expansions.

Rn I’m genuinely thinking it’s knocked viii off it’s pedestal as my favourite (and first) ff title and I’m still only 30% of the way through the main story. The only other ff title that I’ve balanced against VIII is X which would’ve been my third favourite but is now my third followed by XIV as fourth rn.

I wonder if those 7-8 people that play on xbox series X will switch over to PS5 to get a taste of that oremium playstation exlusive experience 🙌🏻💯📈🥂

Won’t be a day 1 for me with everything else coming out right now, but it’s a must buy for sure.

The game will be good, but rather short as it’s only nearly 100 gb and that’s the ff7r first game size, not to mention how hard they went with graphics it doesn’t leave much of a game to. I could probably play it all in less than a week. 20 gb demo that’s almost a quarter of the game we already played.

I’m so glad you mentioned tactics. It has always been my favorite when it comes to story because it is so much darker than most FFs and XVI seems to really be leaning into that and I’m so excited for it.
