My pc can barely keep up 💀
If they do a FPS Boost for the series X it would be Goated
It is disappointing that this game runs at 30fps, it is not surprising thought that it looks similar on both Xbox consoles. It does not reach the level of the games released past few years. A good example is The Last Of us Part 1 – look at the graphic, shadows, reflections almost like high quality RTX, the characters and the face expresions. And this is a remake of the 10y old game. To me Statfield is a total graphic and gameplay disaster of 2023.
This game has made me realise that I don’t actually like Bethesda games, and I’m not sure I ever did 😂
I’m downloading as I speak. Is this another mass effect game. Or better.?
Love it. Runs great on my series s. Cannot stop playing.
Will these BOTS compare series X vs PC? It’s a week now.
As much as I love DF content, I feel disappointed this time around. I was really reassured after watching the performance analysis on Series X and the lauded stable 30fps. Playing Starfield for the first time last night on my Series X (LG C1 TV), I can’t express how surprised I was at how the game feels sluggish/heavy. Camera panning is a pain. I’ve played stable 30fps games before and this is not how they feel. I can’t explain it, but it’s not a pleasant experience, unfortunately.
Blows my mind they took 7 years to make this and it’s shit 🙁
Starwars looks way better! And its an OLDER game!
Disappointed in this game. Looks pixelated in some spots. When turning around and looking around, you feel nauseous. There is slight screen tearing and it gets annoying. No options for 4K 30 frames vs 2K 60-120 fps. The cities look UNALIVE, same with the NPC’S. They are terrible.
can we please have someone else do important DF videos?? you have several excellent members who can do a much much better job
It’s one thing to say it’s stable at 30fps, but is 30fps really good enough in the 2023, and for what ought to have been an exclusive near-launch title? The game looks no better than a modded Skyrim Special Edition.
The one thing that really annoys me is 30 fps cap. Devs definitely could have lowered the resolution and detail to get 60, but too many people would be bitching about ‘bad graphics’. That’s sad.
Game is friggin amazing 😍🔥
Can’t believe we are talking even slightly positive about a game that at times even though rare runs at under 30 fps and on PC it isn’t much better. It’s actually gross and I’ve decided I’m going back to old games.
The game is so washed out on Xbox that its hard to believe you never encountered it during testing (you can even see the issues in your own footage). I can’t play for more than 30-40 mins at a time due to developing headaches from over brightness which can’t be adjusted in-game. Its almost like you guys chose to ignore this factor.
On PC the game is awful. Ryzen 2600, RTX 3060 12GB, 32GB RAM, New Atlantis jumps of fps on the level of 29-45 FPS. And I don’t like that feature “rendered resolution”, it is really bad, far objects are very pixelated or blurry.
The graphics are PS4 level. I actually think Shadow of the Tomb Raider looks better. The crap graphics are immersion breaking and the stupid 10 foot jump your character does.
after seeing the xbox series x version in person after playing the pc version on ultra settings since early access, i came to the conclusion that this video is an absolute joke. Starfield does not! look good on either S or X. It looks like a last gen game. We need a Series Z because these old consoles are already obsolete.
Ps5 player here !! I was gonna go out and buy a new Xbox just for this game but it’s running just fine through xbox cloud. One my last gen one s. I’m impressed I still wanna play the game native though …… 😂
Seems like there is problems all around. Even on PC, there’s very few options to reduce pixels to smooth out gameplay. Depending on how powerful you’re graphics card is, you might get a smooth experience with minor frame drops or, you get frame drops, audio bugs, and frame freezing every 20 seconds. When it’s good its good, but that usually doesnt last long on my GPU.
I am an xbox owner and I dont understand how xbox console owners are happy with a 30fps first party exclusive that has NO next gen features at all in 2023 and its almost 2024…., The PC community are enjoying starfield the way it should be played, and thats where all the postive reviews are coming from.. I wish Microsoft would had forced bethesda to get a 60fps mode for the series x and then released the PC version of starfield at a later date, similar to how Sony does with trheir exclusives..…Microsoft doesnt prioritize its own xbox consoles when it comes to next gen performance.. PC players are the majority subscribers of gamepass, so I guess they just cater to them when it comes to pushing the hardware to its limits……..
Brother man this is 30 fps at best, how can you call this pile of garbage unblemished performance? Where is the next gen because 30 fps is surely no next gen.
So… It… It actually just works?
Can’t get a stable 30fps on xbox series x when in major cities. Also 30fps in 2023 come on…
Just loaded up Starfield for the first time on my Xbox series x. It’s almost unplayable with the frame rate. Coming straight from other games it feels awful
Bug free are you serious we saw you guy picture with Todd and Phil I guess your deal was sweetened huh
Todd came to play this time
I bought my series s for 200 bucks while waiting for PS5 to become available. I must say I’m pretty impressed in how this game looks on the small machine. I have it running a 1080p monitor and it really looks good enough. Using the small xbox just as much as my PS5. Looking forward to the new forza motorsport releasing soon as well.
30fps on series X? Its 2023 not 2013😢
Though it looks good on Series X I’m glad I still went for the PC version. Having 100+ FPS has been a dream!
It is interesting that Bethesda’s past lowers the bar so low that a mostly polished game gets praises.
We should not be getting buggy games that look subpar to begin with.
30fps in the year 2023 wtf, I wouldn’t touch it even for free with such low fps.
I’m on series x and still facing a low FPS. Anyone else facing similar issues?
Playing now on series x, the game looks really pretty, But as I get older (my sight is not what used to be) and already got used to 60fps I am having a hard time playing without performance mode to be honest. I hope this won’t be the norm in games. I prefer less graphics and 60fps, I may buy a pc at some point if the 30 fps start being common.
Starfield is janky and vomit inducing on my Xbox series X.
Finally got hands on the game on xbox series x. The game looks great until you move, thanks to 30 fps. Personally I can’t play it at 30 fps, stutter fest. Hopefully someday it can get up to at least 60 fps for smooth motion.
idk why but my fps is so bad and i can’t find any settings to help, what do i do?
i’m on like 10 fps what do i do
Figured this game wouldn’t live up to the hype. Seems like a good enough game but nothing special at all. I’ll be totally fine to wait for a sale.
30fps no thanks, not in 2023. I’d rather have less graphic improvement and play 60 fps.
My game has crashed 3 time’s on me over 4 days and 30hrs+ on the series s.
I cant imagine playing in 30 fps…im hiting about 50 fps in cities with my 3060ti and it feels really not good, when its droping under 60fps.
So the world’s most powerful console can’t run his game at 60fps 😅
interesting that there is no comparison to PC.
Runs great on Series X, 32 hours in and only one had a pause and that was sprinting into the city. Its a mixed bag on my RTX3070 laptop gets 35-55fps at 2560×1600 with no scaling and most settings at high but it sounds like its going to take off into space, lol. Been sticking to the Series X though, solid framerate and looks great once you turn off motion blur (puke).
Imagine releasing a game in 2023 for the newest consoles and it can only handle 30 fps… 😂
Why are these new Games all come at 30 fps on these Consoles?
Where is the 4K 120 Fps bla bla …
frames>quality
At 8:35min why did we see Playstation 4? This game is not on playstation or ?
no 60 fps ? pfff…..
No 60fps not buying lol I like the game though
Stop using the phrase “top of mind” its literally a marketing term and technique. Understand why you use the words you use you absolute NPCs
You’re forgetting to mention the X you get 4k opposed to 1440p
30fps doesn’t even seem that bad ngl
So Bethesda launched a better game than CDPR with the Witcher 3 and the even worse Cyberpunk. Impossible.
Starfield crashed Several Times roday in my series s so there are Bugs.
Ah yes, 30fps just like 15 years ago 😅 perfect for the ultimate fps experience😂 to bad the casuals think its ok. Rather have a world the size of a peanut in 120fps then a huge world that make my brain hurt
Series S. Capado puro serrilhado ódio de ter comprado esse console.
Girerebbe anche su Xbox One X come gira su Series S…
How does TV smooth motion does it with this game?
I can’t remember people were hyped about a stable 30fps. Have i traveled back to 2005 or something?
30 frames on new gen in 2023 should honestly be illegal…
Dont play on s with all settings to 4k it frequently has issues rendering at one point new adlantis and most of my ship didnt load in but when set at 60 hz and 1440p ive not had any issues so far
Tbf the SS this is jaw dropping it can even run in a similar way to the far more powerful X, you can literally buy a second hand SS for £80, I got one for traveling due to size, it is a bargain even at £200, I have an X, a PS5 and a decent PC, not top of the line anymore but was 6 months ago, thats the issue with PC, constant upgrading is expensive, I’ll definitely be buying it, I don’t do gamepass unless I’m unsure about a game, I prefer buying physical copies but at the same time I have 273 digital games over 4 gens on XB and 191 on PS across 2 gens, I’m not a PC elitist mug, I’m not a fanboy of megacorps, that’s something for 15 year olds and younger, if anyone is 16 and above and a fanboy you really need to go sort your life out, I have an RTX4090 coming tomorrow but I paid £1500 for that, for that price I could buy a SX, a PS5 and PSVR2, literally and have change, not much change but still and I got mine a bit cheaper as rrp is £1999.
I hated this game first 30hrs. Then I started liking it, let’s see what it gives further 😏
Why no 60 fps man
finely a video from someone other than alex
dawg how do i get my game to look like that my game is at like 20 frames max and is so stuttery looking on series x
900p30 S
1440p30 X
Stable with drops in major cities.
Loadings everywhere
Nice game, for ps4/Xone era…
Pc port shows how dreadfully bad this game technically is.
30 fps 🙁
>2023 >30fps
Oh boy 😭
Finally Bethesda has created something good for once
FOV 70 though. 😕
I cant even get past title without it crashing
watching this makes me want to get it on pc instead id get it on xbox but since i saw the pause freeze i can sense some crashes on xbox console
Glad to see it has mostly consistent fps and not much bugs, can’t wait to play it myself
Will there be a 60 fps mode?
Sooooo each person you kill you gotta empty a whole magazine in them an reload😒😒😒😒. Very boring an unrealistic. Thank god for call of duty’s realism.
It shouldn’t matter how “demanding” the game is. To not have a performance option is not acceptable. 4K looks like shit when it is blurry from a poir frame rate. Todd Howard even stated that the game hit 60 fps, just not consistently. It sounds like they can’t optimize the game more than the excuse of a bottleneck. If your game is really that demanding (which I guarantee it could run at 60 fps with some effort on their part), then maybe they should wait until a stronger version of the Series X. $100 says, in time, modders will do Bethesda’s job and make it run at 60 fps. I’m so sick of people defending this crap from Bethesda yet simultaneously bitching about other games running at 30 fps.
30fps – never again
30 fps in any form of shooter no thanks
Guaranteed we get a patch on series X in the next year that unlocks frame rate. My guess is that Xbox wanted parity at launch so people didn’t crap on the series S too much.
a shooting game capped at 30 is SO BAD…
It is great that the game runs on consoles, but how on earth can an Xbox Series S run the game at a constant 30fps while my Nvidia 1060 6 Gigs cannot run it at any resolution and not even with aggressive upscaling? It’s an old card but it was usually equal to the console.
It’s sketchy how well this runs and looks on consoles while on PC it is choking the entire 10xx series to death.
Wow 30 frames on x box x we are complaining om 60 fps on pc
L box
several years of development and it still looks and plays this outdated? It literally looks like a big fallout 4 dlc😂😂
I can’t wait to see the video.
There is juste one thing I’d like to say before watching it, I think it can help.
I play on series x, and was soooo disappointed of the 30 fps that was tearing, It was hurting my eyes, the game was unplayable! I play on a LGc1 in 120fps… So I turn the console display settings on 60fps, and it fixed the problem, it became smoother. First time I Have to do this.
Digital Foundry>IGN
Playing on Series X. No FPS problems whatsoever so far. Loving the game.
BUT I think the game is very visually inconsistent. E.g. named NPCs look very good, but generic plainsclothed NPCs are more variable in quality.
More noticably, interiors and natural environments look great…But then you have New Atlantis, which I think looks underwhelming. Natural terrains and ship materials look of a much higher quality than some of the City interiors
30 fps. 😂
Consoles are such a joke 😂
Microsoft promised us that 60 fps will be a standard on next gen consoles. This is another game, which shows that they lied. I’m happy that I sold my XSX.
I feel like Bethesda should’ve hid the loading screens(on PCs with SSD), with your character in third person, doing the action while the camera is locked, so you can’t move it around, that would make going in and out of buildings/ship/elevator seamless for people that prefer that instead of actually getting to places faster.
That could be a toggle in game
Not touching this game until it gets 60 fps
Yeah i got 23 hours in this game and not had any repetative structures while exploring apart from the things that are intended to be the same. All i have been doing is exploring and building my ships up
Im only running a 3700x and a 2070 super and this game only pulls 30% cpu while pulling ,100% gpu. Cpu heavy my ass
Brilliant stuff DF.
It good too see that the Series X and S are Looking n Running very well Overall.
Anyone still thinks series s is holding back the next gen? If a complex game like starfield can run on series s , any shitty doom clone should run at 60fps on it. If it doesn’t, it’s the dev and not the hardware.
The series s is really laggy. Especially jumping. My eyes are scarred. I spent $107 on this game
AAA games shouldn’t be 30 fps in 2023, especially not for $69.99
this is a great game. don’t listen to all the crying out there, gamers are haters and keyboard warriors. just have fun and ignore the hate
This modded Skyrim is a ginormous dissapointment.
Flys up to examine moon…goes right through it 😅 cutting edge
This is exactly what I’ve been looking for. Im not a gamer per se. but Star Field “speaks” to me. I’ve been looking for a open world where I could play my way.
I’ve been debating getting Starfield on computer or Xbox. If Xbox S or X. Now I know, Xbox X it is. Thank You!
Thanks for posted this, that what I’m looking for. I’m not sure what I Should buy Xbox series X or S for Starfield. I think I can affordable for S.
I’m interested to see your PC performance review. I have been struggling to get it to run well on my PC. It seems to be very poorly optimized.
Good news about the XSS, i’m a ps5 owner and don’t have the money to invest in a decent oc rig, but i’ve seen the XSS as low as $200 and that’s not bad at all.
Credit where credit is due. The delays were smart and effective. Props to Bethesda for making this a solid launch. ❤ gonna be playing it on my Series S while foolishly hoping that someway, somehow I will be able to get it and platinum it on my PS5. BUT if not, I’m set anyway. 😊
30fps smh
series s lookin like pubg when it first launched
No, 30fps on console is NEVER a good choice. Even with the game being good or even great the framerate is inexcusable.
Modern DF in a nutshell…..
Basically Fallout 4 in space…
“The most polished game of bethesda”. Looool! fool me, i like.
Just 30fps ????
Hopefully we can eventually get 1440p 120fps on the series X
lot of butthurt fanboys here crying cos they can’t gloat 😂
Is it me or does anyone think the XboxOneX can handle this game as well? Series S & One X to me are the same consoles different name 😮
Very pleased with the series S performance.
The graphics on this game are pretty bad. New atlantis looks god awful on series x
This review has to be a joke.
Is there any chance of FSR3 implementation??? If so, what benefits would you expect???
From what I’ve played so far on PC, it feels half optimized. Visuals are good but all GPUs from the 3000 & 4000 series oughta to push this game right along. Except they don’t, even with FSR2. I’m playing at 1440p and barely able to maintain 60 FPS with mixed high and medium settings. And where is DLSS?
Starfield is unplayable on PC at least on the Early Access if you buy the Premium Edition.
awesome video, I had concerns with my series S being able to run the game but now I am confident the experience will be enjoyable. Cheers!!
Looking forward to the PC analysis. My PC lines up almost exactly with the minimum specs, with a slight advantage on the CPU side, so I’m hoping performance is at least tolerable at 1080p with those specs so I don’t have to upgrade my PC or monitor.
xbots are happy with the 30fps garbage…lol
Pc framerate in shambles
If you play on a high end pc for any amount of time, 30 fps is unbearable
Spider-Man 2 > trashfield
I don’t see how anyone can play a game like this at 30 fps after playing any fps/3rd person game at 60 or more
It hit different when theres nothing else to compare it to. So whos really holding things back series s looks damn good
as well🤮
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Boooo! Nobody cares about consoles. Booooo!!!
Hi Digital Foundry. Can you make an episode about best tvs for gaming?👍
Incredible game, I did have an issue where my framerate was closer to 20fps. I gave up on the game after about 2 hours but then later realized I was having issues in other games… Restarted my Xbox and now it’s a smooth locked 30fps, much more enjoyable
30 🙁
0 fps jajaj
Glad the S version is holding its own against the big brother.
The lack of HDR is mind-blowing.
The fact that this is still the creation engine/gamebryo/NetImmerse impresses me. The engine seems to have taken some big steps forward from Fallout 4. The big question for me, is it still filled with Havok physics related jank.
Pc performance is all i care about. I already knew the series consoles would be 30fps and look bad.
30 FPS is unacceptable!!
Honestly, who cares about graphics if it’s 30fps. Give me 720 low 60fps over 4k ultra 30fps ANY DAY! Im on PC, so luckily I have that option. But I feel sorry for everyone on console who doesn’t. Put a graphics slider in already Todd its 2023, we don’t do 30fps anymore, especially not in first person shooters.
I have a 6650xt, which is very comparable to the series X. I can hit 60fps easily.
may aswell get a s for the price
Wtf the fps is important 2023, than play only 1080p but play the f…. last gen consol with 60 fps.
console players have such low expectations 😂 on pc, the performance is unacceptable.
The best thing though is that it’s on gamepass.
HDR?
Oh God…no 60fps
I’d like to see some pretty major updates on progress this Cit-con. I don’t need actual launch of features, as long as we get a pretty detailed and honest review of progress and plans.
The whole Video is wrong.
It looks garbage and runs garbage.
I have a Series X and this garbage game dont even run in 30 fps
Most of the times it runs more in 25 fps.
It feels so shit.
I was so hyped now iam angry because this kills all of the fun.
Imma have to get myself a 1tb series s for christmas I guess haha
Can anyone help me and inform me about the FPS. Is the FPS locked even inside buildings on console or is it dynamic.
Graphics straight out of 2015. It’s ridiculous how they couldn’t get the series x running at 60fps
Why do they that game looks good? It looks like a decade old garbage
Someone want to explain to me how my 2070 Super is somehow on par with the Series S?
Honestly, i’m very surprised with the Series S version. It looks good, i thought for a game as large and open as Starfield the downgrades would be far more severe. This just goes to show that if the effort is put in, the game can look great on both systems.
Im so sorry but this game looks so cheap and poorly made
There’s a lot of talk in the video about how this game’s launch is good for a Bethesda game, and how the quality control is good for a Bethesda game.
This game launched in a more playable state than Elden Ring, who required users on PS5S to downgrade to a PS4 version to get stable framerates.
It isn’t just a good launch for a Bethesda game, it’s a good launch for AAA gaming overall, better than even some games we consider GOTY, while having more content and a more expansive reach.
It seems like some studios will get no credit even when they buck the trend we’ve all been complaining about in AAA gaming, meanwhile we’ll give other studios known for poor performance-filled launches the pass to do so because they are darlings in the gaming world.
In my opinion, the 30 FPS limit is totally justified. The game looks stunning and really well in spite of its relatively low performance.
Is it just me or does the game suffer from overt brightness on the Series S? I’ve noticed in New Atlantis everything looks washed out. And in indoor spaces. But then there are times the game looks glorious
This game looks awful, most of gameplay i’ve seen was in empty grey locations + planets are just another bethesda style fake, its just regular closed locations and planet image basically serves as a door to it.
maybe just this game take so many pressure to cpu,XSX only run 2K 30fps native?ridiculous
How is it possible that this runs at 30fps on an Xbox Series X in 2023? Are you kidding me?
And I am wondering – is someone being ironic here? When saying it’s not always a stunner, then at 2:16 showing what is perhaps the most god-awful environmental design was a bit of a slap in the face. Am I on crazy-pills, or does New Atlantis look like incredibly basic? Other areas/cities look better – but NA specifically looks worse than Citadel on ME to me at least. Edit – I am also bemused by the choice of video capture at 9:06 when you talk about complex combat encounters – a fairly basic map, with 3? enemy NPCs doesn’t seem to say “complex” to me. Maybe a bad choice of clip. I am confused by all of this… also, and I’ve thought this for a long time, why would a narrative focused game in 2023 have such animatronic looking NPCs? I haven’t played the game, so I’m just going off trailers and captures… but they all look like they could have stepped through a worm-hole from 2013. Finally – if I was an XB-X user, I think them saying that the S was on-par with it’s 3x stronger sibling would be a little dis-heartening. Still it’s good news if you are an S owner.
The S going toe to toe with big brother 💪
Looking forward to trying in cloud mode with GP ultimate. Wont even try to install it until those memory card prices drop.
I still can’t believe this game has come out in a good state. Bought a new SSD just to play it. Well done bethesda
Yes xbox series s hold the gen 😂😂
The HDR implementation in this game is broken
what an absolute joke of a generation this is
Honestly, there should have been only like 5-10 planets. Ive traveled to a bunch of planets (like 1% of them) and im finding literally the same exact things on different plants. I would see something that looked so familiar and swear i seen it before. I thought i was going crazy. But then i ran into the same exact thing again for a 3rd time 2 hours later and realized i wasnt going crazy, this game is just copying and pasting the same thing on multiple planets. I can only imagine people who visit hundreds of planets are going to get annoyed by this. I would have definitely preferred if Bethesda only made 5 planets and put more hand crafted stuff on them.
Also this is not space exploration. Each “planet” is just a flat level blocked by menus and loading screens. Bethesda tried to make it appear like you are flying around in space with planets revolving around you but its just a hollow illusion. You cant actually fly to any of them you have to open a menu and load to them. Flying around to all of these 1000+ planets was the big selling point of the game and it was a borderline lie by Bethesda. Fallout 3 is still my favorite Bethesda game. I hope the Fallout show is successful so they will have demand to remaster Fallout 3. Because i honestly rather play a Fallout 3 remaster than Continue playing Starfield once i finish it. Starfield isn’t that game i was looking forward to playing for the next 10 years. Its a good game, but thats it. Nothing special.
yuck 30 fps
Thank you Cyberpunk.
Pathetic that the graphics are close 🤦🏻♂️ why pay $600 for a console if it’s going to look the same as the $300 console
I’m a guy who played Elden Ring & Cyberpunk on an Xbox One S, and didn’t have any issues in doing so. As long as the game plays on the system, I’m good.
I still have to finish Tears of the Kingdom tho
Can’t watch. I knew this would be a damage control piece. It’s so obvious.
Great news!
Well i disagree with this video. The game runs like shit on mu high end PC. So there has to be a issue there.
ok performance, boring as f game
so glad i paid for a new console and 100 bucks just for a game to be capped at 30fps
Imagine this game being remastered 15 years from now
why did they make a new gen fallout 4 ran better on ps4
Thanks for the usual amazing content. Great work. Looking forward to seeing the detailed breakdown
Can’t wait to play this impossible port on my switch oled…🤔
I don’t really get why people are mad that there is a limit if you run 45 minutes straight in one direction on a planet I think it’s because they expected to seemlessly land on the surface of a planet but idk
Way too long to make a game that’s missing literally all performance enhancing features. This is why UE5 will be great to use for even big studios that have proprietary engines.
This is what happens when customers don’t hold the company accountable. “Moders will fix it for free attitude.”
Well, I’m hoping that a 2080 super, amd 3800x with 32 gb of memory will run the game at 3840 x 1200. 🤞
But your really nit picking 😂
I’m playing on the S so this was my biggest worry that the game would run like a potato. Yes people will say why not get the x. See I’m a PlayStation guy so I got the 5 and got the S for my secondary console. So I didn’t want to get the x because I’m not a Xbox guy and pay for another expensive console.
30fps forget it
Phil Spencer’s black suitcase of money fell over this review.
It is really good that Bethesda pulled this release off.
The cut aways have not bothered me at all.
Happy for Xbox fans! This game looks great.
In almost 2024, after 2 generations of consoles that we are promised 4K60fps we are barely reaching 1440p30. Technological advancement is beautiful. Even if it means not having 4k, Bethesda could at least have offered a 1080p60 mode on Series X to compensate. Offering games in 30 fps on next-gen is ridiculous. Especially on an exclusivity which is supposed to highlight the hardware of the console in question.
please make a optimization video of COUNTER STRIKE 2 open beta
I do think they need a mode for 1080p owners on every game and more details and etc
I wish it was at least 60fps
I’ll be honest, I really don’t think the game looks that graphically impressive. At most it looks like Wolfenstein Young blood where the faces look like clay and there’s far too much hazy fog everywhere. In general it also looks like many finer objects and character models lack ambient occlusion making things look really flat. In fact in general it looks like the contrast in any image looks really flat.
Having loading screens instead of canned animations though is honestly probably better off to me. Does anyone really like staring at the animation of climbing a ladder than just hitting the load button? It’d honestly a more contrive thing in newer games with them always thinking you need to see everything in one cut.
I always find it funny how the differences are a lot more noticeable if you are a PC Gamer. the Xbox Series X version looks god (specially for a 500USD machine) but the Series S looks really, really rough, some of those textures feel as blurry as FSR on performance mode, the shadows in special don’t look that good, textures also take a performance hit, but thankfully the draw distance wouldn’t be really noticeable during gameplay, it’s a very good showing for the price of the hardware. The foliage on the other hand feels very low res, and there’s a few moments (like 6:45) where the visual artifacts are very obvious. Considering what we saw from PC benchmarks, my guess is that Bethesda just went with 30FPS because the game is extremely CPU intensive! Bethesda deserves a lot of praise for this game, because it looks amazing and it’s surprising that for a game like this the performance isn’t awful out of the gate, with that being said it does seem that the game has large frame drops on the 1% and .1% lows regardless of what you are playing it on
Please John (Oliver? I can’t tell) stop whispering. I had to put on subtitles because I can’t hear you without the neighbours noticing.
1:21 ooff that AI isn’t looking very promising. I counted 4 seconds for the npc not being shot to react and turn around to defend themselves.
😂😂😂😂😂 did u get the money?😂😂😂😂😂
Can’t wait to check it out
So you have to get the patch or you wont have 30fps pretty locked?
30 fps is not understandable. I looks worse than than Cyberpunk 2077 and fraction of its world complexity, so what freaking justification are we talking here for christ sake? Are you freaking drunk guys? Look 10:25 scene – looks absolutely dreadful.
Since the game is only 30fps and doesn’t look so good at all… i guess perfect game to play over xcloud streaming if your a ps4/5 player. I would also recommend to try Valheim and State of decay 2. Valheim has still a chance to be released on ps5 tho.
I’ve had a few minor bugs I had nothing no crazy. Reported them so hopefully they’ll be fixed. That said I’m really enjoying the game. I’d give it a 8/10
The pc is what I want to see for best settings
PC performance is currently broken. You’re lucky to see 60fps on Low in New Atlantis. All the while near 100% gpu thrashing.
Well I was debating whether I’d get this game since I don’t use my xbox anymore but seeing that it’s locked at 30fps I’m definitely not touching this shit. I didn’t pay this much for a console for the one game it gets since launch to be locked at 30 😂
This looks really good, but it would be great if Xbox could get a developer that can deliver the level of polish (e.g., loading screens, framerate) that developers like Naughty Dog, Santa Monica, Insomniac are delivering for PS exclusives
I’m looking forward to a 60fps mod, 30 just doesnt look good to me anymore. They bang on about fidelity over framerate then they still use upscaling 😅. I get there has to be trade offs but if we have VRR that excuse becomes weak use VRR well and give me a frame rate unlock 🤣🤣
no armored core video out yet….????
Tod lied, bounderies on planets. what a joke.
It’s actually over a thusand planets right. ?
This game looks super washed out.
So far I couldn’t get a stable 60 fps on my 2060 supper with a ryzen 5 3600 and a sata ssd. I was able to run cyberpunk on medium or even high with dlss with some ray tracing but this game that looks a lot less advanced graphically I can barely hit 50 in a big city.
Can say console even tho at 30fps is better than PCs mess rn
Always kickass content from you guys
“tHe SeRies S is hoLDing GAmeS baCk”
With how similar the two look it seems crazy that the X couldn’t do 60fps like the PC will.
Im shocked to hear the fps is 1440p on series. Ive been playing on PC and obviously it looks better there but my PC is set to 75% resolution and upscaling to 4K. Series x looks demonstrably worse and has a lot of shimmer around the edges of NPCs. Im curious why that is since my PC and Xbox are at the same res. Must be the settings being higher on PC compared to console.
30 fps on Series X is unacceptable. The game seems so boring. Im watching Dr Disrespect play right now and even as entertaining as he is, this is a snoozefest. No Mans Sky runs at high framerate with no issues. Passing on this for now.
its a game with trashy performance and experiences, I believed Microsoft need fire many employees who are not doing their jobs.
nothing shown here explains why this game is 30 fps.
i remember some folks here trying to use “simulating planets” as a defense mechanism…well they sure do “Simulate” planets right lol. i cant believe we still have to load into buildings in 2023 with these guys
Why nobody talks about the washed out visuals? No hdr, no brightness settings
Really wish Digital Foundry would stop giving such slack on the 30fps dilemma. 30fps is unacceptable, there are no excuses. This game does not look or feel next gen in any compacity, its being revealed how linear the game is in reality and 30fps just shows laziness on Bethesda’s part.
Enemy AI is a mess, dialogues are a mess, faces are a mess, shots and explosions that you can hear in space are a mess (there’s no air, so no atoms and molecules, in space, therefor it’s impossible to hear anything in space except when you’re in the cabin or your breathing through your suit), you can’t fly and land your spaceship wherever and whenever you want, most of the planets are the same… So no, this ain’t a good game. Sure if you don’t mind those details I just named it can be a good game for you. Not for me.
$70 for 30fps is crazy
So 1 unrendered smudge is better than another unrendered smudge, am glad i got the S
I haven’t really enjoyed a Bethesda RPG since Morrowind. This looks okay even if it lacks depth and I might get the PC version at some point, though I would probably rather watch 2001: A Space Odyssey twenty more times.
Great review! Thanks.
Starfield is the game that will mark the half-life of Xbox series X. I have a feeling that in a not so distant future, Microsoft will re-sell Xbox Series X with an even more powerful hardware upgrade and will use a potential increase in FPS on this game a a selling point. Mark my words.
Finally a game which is playable on day 1. Hope PC version also gets same good treatment.
The big fail.
Honestly I’d be pissed about just 30fps with no 60fps option, combined with low res/low details stemming from the usual lazy FSR upscaling approach. It’s XB1/PS4 with sjit performance all over again, barely 3 years into the release cycle of the generation. How do game devs get away with junk like this on most games this year?! Why is no one vocal about this lazy approach of “optimization”!? what. the. hell. …is every outlet paid for or afraid of harsh criticising?! smh
Usually DF puts out a technical analysis before a performance focused one so it was very nice of them to invert things here to put people at ease given BGS track record with bad performance at launch
“Super polished” LOOOL. I understand you game reviewers have your bias to certain games/studios but come on… there are npc’s, objects, enviroments glitching all over the place. Shadow bugs, lightning bugs, notorious pop ups of elements, render quality bugs, etc etc etc…. You are actually doing a disservice to the game industry by not acknowledging these flaws and calling it a super polish experience.
The lack of performance and stability on FO4 was due, in large part, to the truly awful optimisation. It wasn’t a case of “oh, this texture is a little bit too big” or “this map uses too many light sources/shadows”, but rather “oh, this one interior map also loads in the entire map, in full detail when you can’t even see outside).
It was ridiculous, and hopefully bethesda has learned from that fiasco!
Couldn’t care less about the Crapbox. Looking forward to the PC version, the version that will be the best.
30fps? is this 2002?
Na, this must’ve been the biggest paycheck you have received.
Either. That or my Series X is broken.
My experience has been very different to yours.
where HDR?
Give me 1080p I don’t care, just make it 60fps
“largely bug free”
I am shocked. MS finally took over for real.
It don’t know how but it looks old but good at the same time.
Like a 2010 game in hyper ultra settings.
Performance on PC is absolutely disgusting
30fps no go in FPS.🤣😂😂
I cant play this game on 30fps. Aiming sucks big time
Would be nice if you could show us some optimized settings for the PC version 🙂
Bummer there’s no performance mode on Series X, 30fps shouldn’t be the standard today. Especially not after playing Dead Space and Cyberpunk at 60fps on the Series X. Might look at the PC version, 30fps is painful to me. Just my opinion Bethesda fans, not trying to start a fight. Also, why does everything look like there’s a haze (or fog) everywhere? I can understand some situations being that way, but it looks smokey in almost every scene.
Who’s feeling a bit more relieved?
30fps is not a problem at all as long as its stable.
30fps? i’d take slightly lower graphics for 60 any day
2:16 wow nice full Lambert! Been ages since I’ve seen anything like that lol
They were devoloping this game for 6 years. They couldnt optimeze the game in 60 fps. This is unacceptable
So no 60fps? What a disappointment. The game doesn’t look good enough to warrant natively rendering at 1440p@30.
Finally we get to play it 😎
Got a 13600k and 2070 super. Havent had any shader stutter. Based on recent releases, it feels like a Christmas miracle lol
Watched some of your latest performance tests, fake news, all of them.
I’m sorry. But I don’t believe you..
Congrats Xbots for your first good game 🤭
I’m buying Xbox S specifically for this game as I’ve a low spec PC. Nice video, cleared my doubts. I have played games in 30 FPS lowering all the settings, so I guess I won’t be able to tell the difference.
Runs terribly on PC though 🙁
30 fps is horrible man I hope my pc will handle this above 60fps I really don’t wanna use my xbox
Wierd how its a performance analysis yet he goes into how he feels about the game. Dont do this in the future.
Thank you all for the very important work that you do. May it continue to bring you success and renown. Cheers!
It’s so good on Series S,
i’m happy now to kept my series s..
Steam version needs a patch to fix the horrible HDR experience. The blacks in the game are horribly crushed. I’m playing on an OLED and the entire screen looks like a grey blob.
“bug free” did this guy even play this game at all? 😂
The crowds still seem thin and the NPC behavior no different than Skyrim.
10:28 really gonna defend garbage 30fps? How the mighty digital foundry has fallen
Amagad, those faces!
Gonna wait and hope for a 60fps update in the future
Good to see game from Bethesda that’s not being bashed
Been playing and I don’t understand why this isn’t 60fps when a game like Cyberpunk is on the Series X. If it’s just about persistent item placement then I don’t get that choice. Who the fuck cares about collecting sandwiches over fps?
“Perspective players perturbed ”
Bro, you already got the job, use common language so us regular gamers can focus on if the game is good/runs good instead of having to use context clues to understand what you’re saying. Focus on the normal people not other journalists that are gonna steal your work
I’ve played about 5 hours and I love it, but the Frame rate is ruining my enjoyment. I’m not sure why people are so forgiving of this. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I think I’m going to wait to play this, until they figure out some way to get 60 FPS on series X. I know I’m going to sink tons of time into this, but if I’m nauseous after 5 hours, what’s the point. I mine as well wait. I’m sure modders will figure it out
This review same fake like he’s reading from a shrimp Microsoft for Bethesda gave them cuz I looked at another video of the dude who did an in-depth review who played over 50 hours and took notes and said if your under 15 to 20 hours of playing a game you won’t notice the bugs and issue it’s after you cross 30 hours in the game where all the issues are fully shown this review was probably off at 10 hour playthrough with notes from Microsoft or Bethesda not even worth looking at the video
I heard for being 30 fps its still smooth and better than most 30fps games.
Performance means nothing when the game constantly crashes on Xbox
4:30 – it’s not better or worse, because it’s the same – it’s generated from the same materials, they’re just mixing differently for everybody. if you have two characters on the same console, there should be difference too.
lier
It’s good to see that both consoles are performing well.
Df is clearly sold, the game looks like a 2013 game and runs like a 2050 aaa game, why xbox version first? Bc its the only one that isn’t broken how are you guys going yo justify the extremly bad pc port?
microsoft gonna buy digitalfoundry soon
Bug and hiccups are fine in games. If your worried about them, you aren’t letting yourself have fun.
30 FPS on modern gen consoles 😮💨
I’m sorry, I have it on PC and Xbox Series X, the 30 fps cap on consoles it destroys the fluidity and immersion experience imo. I played on the Series X for 10mins until I had to switch back to PC.
hoping to see a PC controller/joystick implementation review somewhere
John sounded like he wanted to sleep through his review, bless.
I can clearly see the No Man’s Sky and Fallout influence.
1 more ultra demanding game without being next-gen 😂😂😂
Remember, being next-gen game is not just being available on new consoles
(2d indie are also available for them, and of course are not Next-Gen)
The optimization of these 2023 games are getting worse and worse…
We’re seeing this on the new UE 5 too, they’re not that all but extremely demanding…
Immortals of nobody, Remnant 2 , Fortis Solis etc ARE NOT THAT ALL in graphics but run like garbage…
wtf I googled if there was a difference in performance between these two consoles and i only saw articles saying there is no difference so I bought the series a. Now I’m seeing the series x looks way better
Sure it’s stable on XSX but it was making me nauseous with the choppiness last night anytime I moved my camera more than at a snail’s place. I have gotten so accustomed to 60-120FPS of other games on the system.
Omg so nice to hear this isn’t a buggy mess.
Dear developers, we have proven that we will not tolerate a buggy mess. If you aren’t willing to delay your game to get the bugs out, then just don’t build games. I know cash flow is hard to manage but releasing buggy messes doesn’t work so just go do something else with your life energy
Are we seriously going to praise 30 fps with upscalers and outdated graphics now and hitches here and there? “Smooth visuals, solid combat”? Are you freaking serious?
It’s garbage. Currently I’m not long in, just reached the huge city. But, I equipped my gun somehow and shot somebody. Now everything’s gone crazy, I’m being killed over and over again with no end. I can’t even put my gun away, there’s no way to unequip weapons lol. And there’s no map to this city, I need to sell stuff, too heavy and use up all my O2 even though I’m on earth with no space suit on. I had to drop my space suit to take it off lol. I wonder if that’s how you unequip weapons?? Anyway, ima uninstall this garbage.
Cyberpunk 2077 in shambles
Is this kinda like Mass Effect 🤔
Refreshing to hear a Bethesda game is actually worth checking out on or around release. Looking forward to checking it out on game pass soon.
This hasn’t been my experience at all on Series X. It has crashed on me constantly, and I’m only four hours in.
If Starfield does hold up on the consoles, its proof that the fault actually lies with both AMD and Nvidia releasing crap “current” generation GPUs that are only equal to their last generation GPUs for slightly lower prices, yet we have some Youtubers absolutely singing their praises as if lower prices somehow equal higher performance. And don’t even start with the “pay to turn the resolution down” FSR and DLSS nonsense…
30fps and sub-4K resolution. Disappointing.
This was supposed to have been exceeded by the One X, yet the vastly more powerful Series X is still not getting native 4K or 60fps in many games.
Are some developers letting us down?
So it looks and plays the same on a $500 console as it does on a $300 console.
Series X should have at least been 1440p 60fps
This review is weird. I’m far from a graphics snob, and usually DF videos annoy me with how critical they are. While some of what they showed looked pretty good, so much of it looks incredibly mid. The character animations look nearly early XB1/PS4 era. I don’t get how they’re sounding so positive. It’s possible the gameplay is great, and it’s a fun game, but this video really feels off coming from DF.
I am suprised the DF team did not mention that HDR is broken on the Xbox version (elevated black levels and massively reduced bright levels) and is not supported on the PC version
Starfield is trash 😂😂😂
A pc optimization guide please.
Will FSR 3.0 come to consoles in this game, so you can expect a 60 FPS mode in upcoming patches?
Why don’t you ever comment on HDR implementations in games? In this game it’s an absolute joke on console and not even implemented on PC. The SDR is also a shitty grey mess. John is very vocal about PQ on Twitter but never mentions HDR ever or extremely rarely in videos (yes I know this isn’t his video). Mind boggling how you can’t comment on this. 70 dollar triple A game btw
It’s not buggy so far but the performance is far from 30 at all times.
Looking forward to playing tonight. Hope they patch those performance issues you mentioned with some of the cities etc.
Im sorry but this game does not look that great. I dont understand the hype. I was hoping id be able to actually use my series x for more then 360 games. Lol
Another Beta version of a game that you can buy for 60 euros
*Hopefully FSR3 helps*
This is probably the worst looking current gen release to date, aside from that Gollum game. It literally would feel at home on a PS3. It’s like their tech hasn’t advanced at all and it looks even less grounded and mushy compared to later releases of Skyrim. Is Microsoft seriously betting on this to be the killer app for a waning Xbox? Even as a swansong it’s beyond mediocre. The game looks like mush with almost no shadows, low quality textures, no material specularity, and terrible motion blur that blends it all into one continuous mud-drenched pants look. And as if it wasn’t drab enough, somehow there is this continuous haze throughout like they screwed up the gamma and black levels are extra gray, except you can clearly see the HUD is black as expected. And thanks to this channel, I can already point out FSR without trying. It’s that irritating “crunchy” look that resembles a phone camera upscaling a garbage low resolution image, smearing and oversharpening everything, usually some night mode long exposure from the tiny telephoto camera using AI to stack multiple images. Basically it’s trash.
how could you not mention the shit broken hdr and sdr?
Why are games so intensive these days? Anybody know?
Watch Luke Stephens review where he plays longer than 20-25 hours. He encountered alot of bugs when got by the 40 hour mark. Seems like they polished the start where they think most people will reach before a few big patches.
No mention of no HDR??? It looks soooo washed out on oled.
Paying $70 to $100 for a 30 fps capped, buggy not complete release in 2023.
While back in 2000-2004 most ps2 games came out completely bug free , complete and ran at 60fps.
The best times of gaming are truly gone.
As a Series S player, I’m very happy to see that the game looks awesome and runs fine on the lil white brick. Personally, 30FPS is fine, so long as it’s a stable 30, which judging by Ollies coverage is mostly the case outside of larger city maps. So no qualms here from me! Can’t wait to sit down and play it!
From what I have played so far I am really liking the game. 30 fps on an OLED is not a good experience though
I cannot believe it, Bethesda did it.
I know I should wait to play it for myself but I was not expecting 30fps to look so good
I am so disappointed in DF how you have all just kept hush about how this game doesn’t even support HDR on PC at launch, not even a gamma slider.
Starfields presentation is absolutely abysmal on PC in both SDR and HDR yet none of you have mentioned anything about it.
The colours are so washed out and its just so bad for a game set in space with deep blacks, it’s 2023 and HDR support is barely a big ask it’s just a standard feature expectation.
How can you call this a performance review and not mention the abysmal/nonexistent SDR/HDR & black levels?
Want an unlocked fps mode for the SC with Series S fidelity
I think Series S is a liability and should ‘ve never been made at the first time :/
Who would want 512 GB of storage in these days n age ?
Great video, initial performance looks promising! I hope you guys plan to do a somewhat detailed analysis of how it runs on Steam Deck, fingers crossed
A stable game launched by Bethesda
Thats an achievement
The game graphically looks very bland and dull. Gameplay wise it doesn’t look like it’s gonna be as boring as I thought it was gonna be. I thought it would be like No Man Sky shooting rocks for ages.
Pc or noting really
I won’t say the game looks terrible, but it doesn’t push any technical boundaries either. I understand the reason for 30fps, but I was expecting a higher internal resolution on Series S, as 900p is way too low for FSR 2 to reconstruct from, and the result shows. NPC models also look very flat, even for last gen standards. Also, the reports from PC version are not positive, it’s supposedly unoptimized like every Bethesda game and fan patches are already being developed.
I’m a big Fallout fan and I think it’s a good game, but they really need to replace their janky engine with a more modern one, ideally id Tech, which already belongs to Microsoft anyway. This evolution of Gamebryo engine is just not cutting it anymore.
i still sit with a 1080p monitor. game must look bad in 1080p
So sad there is no 60fps mode or at least vrr unlocked framerate, what about backward comp in the future, locked 30fps is bad as we know from rdr2
The game looks so “Uninspired” and bland 😢 the colors and enviroments looks bland and empty… 🙄 Im gonna give it try on Series X once the price of the game drop about 50-60% but Im much more hyped for Fallout 4 full “Next-Gen” version release 🤗
Wow, im excited to play now.. ngl i was a little worried about 30fps but after watching this, i dont think it will be as big of a deal..
It just seems to me that the graphics are very miserable?
The black level raise is horrible
Really impressed with Series S. Will be playing on PC main, but nice to have the Series S as a playable backup with Cloud Saves if I want to do some side quests on the bedroom TV 🙂
After watching this, I have zero doubt that Forza mototsport is either a beauty or an attempt by microsoft to show that the xbox 360 has raytracing capabilities.
a 30fps first person shooter….lmfao
garbage of the year
Finally a reason to turn my Xbox back on 😂
This is half a joke. I’m too busy to play games and mainly play on PS5 or switch with my kids. But my Xbox has been getting dusty. As majority of my backlog is on PS5
Skyrim is space, y’all dont know how lucky I feel to play such a feat.
The game don’t look too bad on series S considering the limitations…👏🏾👏🏾👍🏾
“solid performance”
20fps when 3 NPCs are walking around.
Bethesda surely isn’t judged the same as any other studio
Will the X even matter if I don’t have a 4k monitor/tv, and thank you for this video, it is helping me choose between the 2
“Prospective players perturbed by the potential…” I love you Digital Foundry, never change.
Explain, please, why there is not a word about the very poor image correction menu. You are supposedly reliable and professional, but you do not notice the lack of HDR in the game, the lack of possibility of any HDR settings? There must be something wrong, right? Because of this, the black quality in this game, is at an unacceptable level for me. It would be appropriate to point out that there are such big downsides in the game.
The shimmering, good lord the shimmering
I just cant belive DF was so positive about 30fps, No effects, old engine and it looks like a ps4 game?? The game is far from what No man sky can do?
This is not DF! Its something Wrong With this vid…..???
Wide as a galaxy deep as a puddle
I know this a true next gen AAA title but tbh i don’t see it… It just looks like a game from 2018, a better version of No man’s sky? I am sorry but this genuinely looks worst than cyberpunk or red dead… And guess what? Those games runs far better in console and pc…
Happy to see the series S looks perfectly decent. My second console I hardly use accept to play Ms 1st party IP.
shame it wasn’t only on x and pc. just not a fan of the s as the extra time and focus could of been well used. i totally understand the 30fps but is still just yuk
Looks like Starfield is absolutely everything that the Obsessed Xbox Haters didn’t want it to be. Congrats Bethesda and Xbox!
The game looks great. Excited to play it on my S and happy it performs well. That said, am I the only one that thought Bethesda bugs were a stable part of their RPG formula? Kinda wish this launched in a more buggy state 😢
it looks so boring. sorry guys, i’m coming back to quake 2
The game just came out, give it time and they’ll do some patching, and hopefully 60 fps will be implemented.
У гг нет ног в 23 году это просто позорище зачем тод Говард это высрал?
Meanwhile, on PC, it’s a whole different story
How does it run on PS5? Oh wait..
Hey @Digital Foundry !
Since I am gonna use Series S on a 1080p display *I wonder if Series X output is sharper than Series S output at a 1080p display* (Across several games like AC Origins, Forza Horizon or Jedi Survivor)?!
On a 2160p Display or even 1440p monitor I would say: no doubt. But when the console detects a 1080p monitor: is Series X also sharper or doesn’t the image blur so much anymore?
30fps… no thanks
my 4070 is struggling to hit stable 60fps at 1440p medium setting 😂 anything below 90fps is not playable with mouse & keyboard, aiming feel like crap
3060 1080p medium about 40-50,suck optimization on pc
Do you think a 40hz patch could still happen for the series x
HAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAH
How did Bethesda manage to make Starfield both visually amazing and dogshit at the same time lol
I don’t know if it’s just me but there’s EXTREME input lag for me on my series it’s unplayable , now there’s a difference between 30 fps and it’s buttery smooth on that part but trying to look righ and it happens 2 seconds later is a problem for me and I did everything in my power to fix it I pray they fix this soon or I figure out how to fix this because I can’t play what I just spend $100 on
the idea of proceduraly generated content is STUPID. There. I said it. It’s booooooring. Please go back to handcraft the enviroments with imagination and love. I’d rather have 10 lovingly, well-thought-out handcrafted planets than 1000 AI generated
Patience is a virtue todd.
Tip ov tha hat.
I find it hilarious after 3 years of no game’s they launch this that run’s at 30fps on a console that was advertised to run at 4K/120fps.I’m mad, yeah,I get dizzy easily when I play game’s that perform low at fps I really was expecting to squeeze my series x but it seems I wouldn’t.
So if they could lower the graphics for series S why couldn’t they lower the graphics on series X and add a 60fps performance mode? LAZY if you ask me
I’ so happy that sony fanboys can only hate 😊
Only 30? In2023????
How come you (df) have not noticed subpar hdr implementation??? Looks like straight sdr -> fake hdr conversion, no real highlights, no larger colorspace etc!!!!
Really surprised the X version doesn’t have a 60 fps even at 1440 P
It’s great to see that the game looks polish! Microsoft did that, for sure
I’m saying this as someone hyped for the game and is about to basically no life it till I complete all or most of the quest but, somehow this doesn’t look anywhere near as good as the graphics in the direct footage
I like how you waited to the end to even mention that it’s the MOST polished game from BGS, insane good game, INSANE graphics,, 99.999% 0 fps… 0 MS drops 😀 look at the frame MS pacing LOOKS SUPPEPR POLISHED.. and SUPPPER DETAILED..
XSX i know you said detail was same on ground, lets be real.. look at the ground CLUTTER, look at the LOD, look at density of objects… there is BIG differences from XSX and XSS even at zoom in or NOT… it looks amazing AMAZING on XSX.. and still a BANGER on XSS.
Where is all this “XSX” AINT NEXT GEN?? where is all that? Digital Foundry XSX^ …. where is XSS is holding back? DF XSS^
Also SS holding back what? if Sony had PS5 slim 300$ same cpu but less gPu same games, NOBODY would care. Same like ps4(1T) ps4 pro (4.4T) and X1(1T) and X1X(6.2 T gddr4) LAST GEN we had more consoles to worry about.. no dev cried.. stop this fake squabble..
XSS looks amazing here.. XSX looks INSANE here. Great video overall DF, i don’t agree 100% i think XSX is even more ground detailed, but great job!!
Why is this video only 720P??? WTF?
Well I guess Microsoft buying Bethesda was a good thing in the end. Bethesda would probably release the game last year with a starfield of bugs.
You seem to be the only people saying this game is super polished and bug free. Every review I’ve seen says it has all the usual jank you would expect from a Bethesda game.
To me personally the 30fps is really annoying. Everything feels extremely slow and blurry when coming from 60 fps visuals. I really hope there will be a 60fps mode in the future.
Makes you wonder why they couldn’t have offered a 1080p mode targeting 60fps like Sony did with Horizon Forbidden West. We already know now that the game isn’t as “seamless” as everyone originally thought, so I’m not seeing the excuse beyond Bethesda refusing to build a new engine.
30 FPS in 2023 is a war crime.
Looking forward to your pc review of starfield cause i saw daniel owen has tested it and the performance is very bad! Your reviews lately have me questioning if you guys sold out! This is great in your opinion, Immortals of Aveum is great! Something is not right! I wish you guys would be more critical cause your opinion had weight!
“Getting a solid game without any compromises” – 30fps locked for a triple-A first-party title, that actually dips in large cities, is a pretty big compromise as far as I’m concerned 🤷
Man I’m finally so hyped for an Xbox game… have this machine for the past 3 years now and have not yet given its proper time as there’s nothing on xbox that really draws my attention.. but this one.. this vibe of No Man’s Sky and proper story and way better graphics! ! i”m buying it.. no gamepass.. nothing.. I want the dev to take my money!
Sounds like it isn’t a next-gen game. Otherwise, there would be more noticeable differences between the X and the S. Probably, the Series S compatibility hold it back then?
7/10 at IGN, after ‘a decade in the making’. I expected more, Bethesda. Especially when there was a delay of one year. But you get used to this as an Xbox owner.
30 FPS in 2023 should be unacceptable.
If Bethesda cannot optimize games with that dinosaur that they call an engine, then they should either scale down fidelity or finally scrap it altogether.
The black levels are the worst I’ve ever seen in a game. It’s terrible. The stutter is also bad. This is the first time it feels like df was bought off. Your tech review isn’t gelling with what I’ve experienced on the series X at all.
This looks lovely… 🙂
Some companies make 30fps look bad with all the extra effects in the game. But this is good. The way 30 should be
Why this game so huge 1000 planets all for what
3080 runs at a low of 45 fps at 1440 WITH FSR at 75. The pc version is a disaster. Unreal. Every new game is like this.
great review
Seriously, games should target 45 fps at 4k because we will never reach 60
The series s should have been what the digital ps5 is for Sony, same power as the x except no disc drive and IDK cut on something to reduce cost meybe 1 usb port or something lmao
PC with mods best choice, XSX version on disk only for collection. How about XOX, first game without support for XOX?
P.S. It’s bad that there is no animation of dialogues and voice acting, and also landing and takeoff are not implemented.
Lil extra time in the oven makes the cake good huh?
07:58 Series S holding back the gen confirmed. It’s obvious now that Starfield has been designed primarily for Series S and the resolution upscaled for Series X. The similarity in visuals and the 30 FPS cap confirms this for me.
Can you guys make a pc optimization for starfield like you did with red dead redemption 2 that would help a lot of people
based on how it looks, i feel like 60 fps shouldn’t be a problem?
As expected, the graphics look like crap. bethesda, cmon! And Microsoft, ditch the garbage S console that holds back development. This is so sad to watch.
Where is pc test ?
What about the SDR, HDR and Dolby vision issues?
This game looks like shit graphically but I guess its size justifies it a bit.
Terrible game, been watching the gameplay all day and it’s like going back to 2010 lol. It dips below 30fps quite often and even in the single digits. The game design is absolutely outdated and janky. I mean 9:51 looks horrible on the Series X. Judging Bethesda games to Bethesda games is hilarious too, like it’s some kind of win if the game doesn’t just crap out? I’ve seen you guys go harder on 60fps games but here praising a 30fps last gen experience with tons of loading screens and bugs. IDK, seems like you all went very soft on this game.
Microsoft is releasing an unbroken decent looking well performing game… from Bethesda Softworks?
That’s actually pretty impressive.
You can’t even adjust brightness/contrast/gamma and HDR is busted
20 hours of play…. this is the new joke in game dev design (get the first 20 hours right, and you get past 90% of the reviews/analysis).
Why is there fog everywhere?
30fps 😂
He blew right past the PlayStation performance.
This shit doesn’t even support HDR
I’m not enjoying AAA games like Starfield and FF releasing on current gen hardware and running at 30fps. This generation needs 60fps as standard. It feels like a step backwards
Great exclusive. Starfield now and Forza Motorsport next month. Very happy it won’t come out on Ps5. Xbox is the console to have now and for the future. Waiting for Hellblade 2 next year…..
FSR3 is going to be the Series S best friend when it comes to xbox.
Consoles were supposed to be a super generation capable of playing 4K and what came out of it is just visible. Mimio over technical admiration, I think that the laziness of game developers in 2023 reached its zenith. This is another game where the powerful RTX 4090 can’t maintain a constant 60fp in native 4K. And yet it is 3 times more expensive and 200% more efficient than the PS5!! What’s going on here?
I have never questioned DF before, but something feels off with this review compared to other reviews regarding visuals! those npc models!!! and 30 fps is not accetable in 2023 and should be questioned not accepted.
They really need to dump this engine. Looks atrocious at those greener areas/open spaces.
Bethesda is just lazy.
Why all MS games look plasticky
It will be 2024 in 4 months and Xbox first party games are locked at 30fps… ..I think Phil could care less about the Xbox community and more about the pc community…Fable , hell blade 2, state of decay 3 , will probably be locked at 30fps also.. on the worlds most powerful console….
Dear developers, please test your 30fps on a LG Oled and see how horrible it looks. I will skip even on gamepass…because I love my Oled. Ps. Have you ever heard of VRR? Why even have these tech if hardly anyone use them..sigh. Big skip for me!!!
Happy to hear this as I’m a current S User
Охуительно, восхитительно!
Series X running 1440p is good but not great for 30fps, however given that we now have THREE recent examples of games choosing to run 720p at 60fps on next gen consoles (Jedi, FFXVI, Immortals), the 1440p30 here is well above the worst we’ve seen from Next Gen AAA games.
Still this game at the very least should have launched with a VRR 1080p60 mode.
It’s great that Bethesda learned from other companies’s mistakes and didn’t release an unfinished product like Mass Effect andromeda and Cyberpunk
Incredible. For just 200-300$ hardware. Series S it’s incredible.
Even in 2023 I still think that developers should just stop targeting 4K. I know it’s probably effective in marketing saying that your console can reach 4K, I can’t stop thinking how much better graphics could look if we still targeted 1080p or 1440p. What’s the point of 8.3 million pixels on your screen if shadows and reflections are blurry and blocky?
No mention of broken HDR and SDR?
Yeah ! Hourra ! Next gen gaming at 30fps !!!!! What a big evolution dudes !!! Wouaaaaa ! 30FPS !!!! I mean … THE FUTURE IS HERE !!!! lol Honestly this game lookso outdated !!!! I’m chocked to see that … pure dissapointement ! MS/Xbox have lot of IP to use but made things like that … this gen is a real mess. Just good to play on game pass PC, that’s all .. when it’s finish ?! You delete it and go on another game … as always … this gen suck.
“Solid performance”
“30 fps”
Standards are getting lower and lower by the day.
Can’t wait to play this on Game Pass!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow Series S holds up so well, very impressive
Anything less than 120fps is unplayable for me. Pass until it can hit this.
What about HDR? Why “reviewers” don’t talk about it, if no support than there is no issue isn’t? What about PC why Xbox only with its 30fps, because PC has less than 60fps on any hardware with any settings isn’t it? Definitely sponsored review but you’re silent about it, lie is everywhere. Technically game is entire peace of crap.
It just works slogan still is relevant
Glad I upgraded from my xbox one s to the xbox series x.🥂🤭
30fps for a shooter really sucks. Still gonna try it out when it comes out on GP.
Now imagine if you could cover the incredibly bad AA, the awefull image instability and constant flickering that is exagerated by FSR. This channel is turning into a low standards easy to please, uncritical, consol focused channel. Not that theres anything wrong with being consol focused but why become less critical of quality? Game looks awefull in motion with insane edge flickering both on consol and PC but I guess the standards for image stability truly is bottom tier on this channel now as long as there is vaseline levels of motion blur as if someone spit in my eyes making it “look good” then anything is exusable… who cares if my eyes are darting around constantly distracted by white pixel noise yeah? Jeez…
I’m quite literally shocked! Bethesda managed to pull it off! Holy cow! Congratulations to the developers on a job well-done! I am now 100% ready to get my new gaming obsession on the road! 2023 has been an excellent year for the industry as a whole!
Where is the PC version comparing AMD to Nvidia & exploring mid to high levels rigs 🙁
I’m about to buy an Xbox for thus. Damnit.
Remember when the Witcher 3 would hit you with a loading screen every couple minutes?
Nah, me neither. And that’s a 2017 game… Ridiculous how Bethesda still couldn’t make a seamless world.
I was wondering how they were able to get this up and running on Xbox. Heavy use of FSR makes sense.
The loading screens aren’t bad at all lol or annoying . On my pc the loading screens are like 2 seconds long not that big of a deal
Hey @DigitalFoundry
We would love to know your in-depth details on Bethesda’s new Creation Engine. They are coating their creation engine iterations from the same gamebryo paint, and therefore, passing over the existing gamebryo engine problems to the next iteration again and again. And this new version is no different. It still houses the same technical problems, Obivion and Fallout 3 used to had.
It will be great if DigitalFoundary takes a bold step and explain the technical debts their Creation Engine has.
Looks like old gen game… Nothing special…
Starfield is a locked 30, starfield has 1 second pauses, and dropped frames in some cities. 🥲
So earlier you guys were debating if we need a PlayStation five pro and this game can only get 30 frames per second. I’m assuming this answers your question now
I had hoped foliage shadows and similar fine shadow details would be vastly improved from FO4–to this day they bug me more than most aspects of the game’s presentation–however, it seems to be what they decided could be dropped off the priority list. Really hoping FSR3 in it’s eventual, hopeful coming to this game can resolve this to some greater degree.
Looks like it was created to run on Series S console plus it scaled to run on Series X console) And that’s what I’d prefer)
30 Fps is NOT next gen – Xbox is 🐶💩😂
No 60 or more fps options is a joke
R.I.P Xbox, you have nothing of interest anymore. Although I’ll keep my One X for fun ole games.
There are reviewers who say that the game has many bugs and they are obvious. It’s just not on the level we have used in other Bethesda games, it’s a more oprimized game and I think that MS saved the situation here, but definitely not bug free at all.
I can’t believe this game is missing HDR on PC… like seriously? A space game? with grey-AF blacks???
PC performance is terrible! 12700K/ 32GB/ RTX4070ti/ 2TB NVME SSD: set at 4K (with internal rendering at 75%. dynamic res and FSR enabled) Game uses only 5.8 GB VRAM at that point but can’t hold 60 fps even indoors. Game hits my system harder than non ray-traced Cyberpunk. 😂
You guys really dropped the ball on this one by not explaining how washed out the game is and that there is no hdr calibration or even brightness slider for that matter
The Game seems to have no HDR- support. Max peak brightness is 400nits and the blacklevel is raised…
Thats not, what I would call „polished“…
Anybody else wishing the colors were a bit more bright/vibrant? To me looks a little greyscale/pale colors contrasted to Fallout 4’s gorgeous blue skies. Just my opinion.
When You said “use social Media” I wanted to cry
Looks like they did a great job on this game for series s. You see other game developers caring about how the series s is holding things back. But they’ve been able for years to push games across multiple configurations. So they can certainly do that.
After seeing how good starfield looks on series s I may try it out. But I have a bit less sympathy for the studios crying how they don’t to support the series s.
You said the Series S version is “softer”, but it EXTRA soft because of that low internal resolution. I don’t know what size 4K television you’re playing on, if you’re playing on a TV, but its very noticeable on a 65″. The environment and character clothing textures look great for the most part, but ground textures and skin textures are pretty hit or miss.
Other than better graphics, it’s almost indistinguishable from mass effect andromeda.
In my strong opinion 30 FPS in 2023 is unacceptable. At least give Series X owners a 60 FPS option, even if it’s 1080p.
FYI please don’t forget about Steam Deck in the next video, thanks 🙂
no 60 fps? shame on you Bethesda
I was excited for this game until I realized it was 30 fps on console
I am a Playstation and Nintendo player. This will be my entrance to Xbox. But I’m still not sure if go with Series S or X for this. Which one do you guys recommend me?
Waiting for fsr 3 patch.😊
Kind of wish they had more than the same space launch cutscene template that looks the same with different backgrounds. Change the angles and perspectives randomly at least. A fixed GoPro view from a flight pod or internal cockpit view would be pretty cool.
RIP PlayStation. You had a good run. 🫡
Im so happy, i dont have to tell my wife wife i have 2 buy a xsx cause ps5 und xss are enough 4 now.. wait for fable 😅
looks like fallout 4 mod😄
they targeted shitty graphics to keep 30fps
I would have rather had 1080p and 60fps
ok, so now we celebrate 30 fps for next gen console, wtf ????
Bethesda: We need a new RPG that’s not Elder Scrolls and not Fallout
*peeks at Outer Worlds and Star Citizen*
Bethesda: I present — Starfield, the abomination of Outer Worlds with the fly fly spew spew of Star Citizen, from the creators of -Fallout 4- -Fallout 76- Skyrim. I maked dis.
Wheres ja? I mean john?
It seems okay. Is that considered a failure?? 🤔 Exploration isn’t fun? 😴
NEXT GEN AND ONLY 30FPS?? PATHETIC.
Looking forward to PS5 Performance & Graphics review of Starfield. 😁😁😁
You can find Series S consoles for as low as $250 brand new! Quite the bargin
Batman Arkham Knight is better looking than this mess.
Wow this game is so advanced, it looks worse than no man’s sky. Why not go and play skyrim instead?
Love my ps5, but super stoked to pick up my Series S tomorrow and get on board with this!
On series S, looks super good, didn’t expect that.
30 fps and one second freeze wow. Unpolished
Upscaled 4k at 30 fps on the Xbox series x really? Terrible. Mid range pcs can run this at 60 fps at the same resolution
It is washed out and has elevated blacks with no brightness adjust on pc. Only issue though with what seems to be a great game. Hoping they fix.
I’m absolutely dumb founded you can play this game on a Whole System that cost $299 with a controller. Try that on PC 😂
“Even the combat feels great”
Pretty strong testimony for a Bethesda game.
Man, downloading this rn on my PC. So HYPED!!!
now if i could get over 60 fps on my 3080/5800x i’ll be Jellicle
LETS GOOOOOO❤
30 FPS gaming in 2023 🤣
I’ve personally experiences regular stutter on series X. Playable but I hope they can even this out in a near future :). Tho for the moment I still enjoy a lot the game. I LOVE the material work most of the time, so good. Same for the color grading.
Bro, 30fps is so last gen. Is the X seriously this bad or is it the engine?
Graphics are average.. but gameplay is awsome!
I’m on a Series X and my system is not registering any motion blur. When I turn it on or off and move around it looks the same. Moving around is very choppy. 🙁 It feels like I’m playing a stop-motion animation game when I move through the first level mining colony. This appears to be a bug. I hope they fix this.
remember when DF said starfailed run on 30fps because it can stock sandwiches on top of each other…lol
are you gonna do a video on low and high end machines trying to play the game?
I have an I7 7700k and GTX 1070 (8gb, non TI) and I’m worried about being able to play the game at all. I’d love to know if I can play the game on low, or not at all and if I should just get gamepass ultimate and stream it?
Phil Spencer said everyone at Xbox was QA testing Starfield. Mission was success!
To buy an Xbox series X here in Canada is 650$ and 30 fps is stable and that’s a good thing? Man have we been accustom to blatant normality in this day and age of gaming.
They did it. Bethesda actually did it. A stable full release. I dig it
Sounds like Xbox employee made this video. Not so digital foundry like.
Need that PC optimised settings vid
Microsoft should of made the Series S a bit more powerful.
It looks like a Xbox 360 game 🥶
lmao the game only looks good on the surface, in comparison it looks much worse than cyberpunk. And yet it still runs only at 30fps??? 30 fps in current days are unacceptable. 30 fps is not even playable. Considering Fallout 76 I didn’t expect much from Bethesda, still using that extremely outdated engine that has been upgraded and reused beyond its expiration date. Because Bethesda is extremely greedy and doesnt care about consumers, only money. Not a buy for me, Im sure the game js awesome but Im not playing it in 30 fps and I would need to buy a 3000 dollar pc. Not happening. Guess I will buy the game in 7 years or something when it gets remastered / ported to a new generation with 60fps
The only bug I’ve seen so far was when I was in the beginning cave one of the guys floated through the ceiling
Ahahahah 30 fps gaming
Very suspicious take. 🤔
When pc?
This is the first time since Oblivion where I have been impressed with the graphics of a Bethesda game.
I’ve recently gotten into high fps gaming and it feels so horrible moving back to standard it’s very jarring.
I would personally say to increase the fps to 48 as ive played and it feels much more smoother.
This is where you come for the truth and Starfield definitely going to be one hell of a game for the next 10 years kudos to Bethesda not gonna be sour that it’s just for Xbox and PC
i really enjoyed this type of review and it makes me love my xbox series s more
Will buy an Xbox just so i can play this game
Why is gunplay so good in space game?
Just looks really dated to me.
I’m curious about what the sales will be like without the playstation it may be Bethesda lowest performing game, not because of quality, but alot of Xbox players might think with game pass there’s really no need to actually buy the game
Hopefully this puts a fire on RSI to get SQ42 finished.
Armored Core 6 analysis where?
Kinda baffle me game didn’t properly using 8 cores few years ago but now seemingly 8 is not enough. Either that or just unoptimized. Want to see PC performance next.
You can’t turn the motion blur off on console? 🤢
Paid advert
“But that was the Absolute worst I saw” talking about a 1 second complete screen freeze…
Well yeah I mean… Damn what could be worse? complete crash? thats very forgiving on his part.
The break up on the neck/ side of the head of a character called Walter Stroud a couple of hours in really surprised me. Is this a FSR 2 artifacting issue or an engine limitation? Playing on xbox series x.
Npc’s and especially their skin is a little distracting.
Most games I play on the S suffer a lot in 4K but run and look better in 1080p what kind of monitor you used?
30fps for a current gen game that’s supposed to be one of bethesda’s flagship games is an absolute shame. Thought we’d make it past this point since it’s 2023 and hardware on the console side making strides in the right direction for 60fps. Maybe it’ll get the “fps boost” feature with the next generation console 5 years from now…
10:05 10:30
Disappointed with the repetitive and boring planet exploration. Thats what i was looking forward to the most
Meanwhile, in a not-so-distant universe, CIG is still building tools so they can one day make SQ42
So no Armored Core 6 Tech analysis??? Surprised you guys prioritized Immortals over Armored Cored. Immortals had the lowest views too.
The framer rate looks terrible
Funny when a game on PS5 runs at 30fps everyone jumps in and complains non stop regardless how good the game is.
Whereas on Xbox it seems to get a free pass and suddenly no one is complaining about the 30fps cap.
PC performance is straight up bad. 3080, 9900k, and 32GB of RAM on and SSD and I have to put the settings down to medium to stay above 60fps. Some options like FSR2 literally make the performance worse while also making the visuals worse.
…is there no recoil!?
The game is probably decent and ill play at some point but so many of the planets look incredibly bland :/ Bethesda games usually nail the exploration but this seems to be the weakest in that regard. You dont even get to fly your ship anywhere… just loading screens everywhere. A real shame
Ive seen a lot of reviews that say the first 20 hours is pretty polished, and that its later game, where it really can start to bugout, and issues start showing up.
I have zero doubt in my mind that Series X equivalent PC will be able to run this game at 1080p60fps within a few months. It’s another classic Bethesda game, it needs mods.
30 FPS is a big letdown
Only thing that worries me is the loading screens, will have to play to see if it matters to me or not.
The TREES are HORRIBLE…Whyyyyyyy?!!!!
Since Microsoft has started supporting it, I’m hoping the game comes to Geforce Now within the coming months. I doubt the Steam Deck will be able to handle it natively until there’s a new model.
Series S is holding all current gen games back. Disappointing really.
Happy to see those Microsoft dollars paid off for those Q&A testers
Proof that 3rd party publishers don’t want to optimize games for the Series S. Bethesda does and this is the result. Great job.
“Great day 1 experience” Can’t wait to dive in!
Digital daddy♥️😘
I think they did a great job with the performance. Impressive there’s very little in the way of bugs. Can’t wait for VR support! 🙂
This game looks so mid.
30 fps is unplayable
No FOV slider?
So we’re just gonna skip Armored Core 6 even though its already released to everyone unlike this game in which most of us haven’t even played it yet and could have easily waited for this review after release. Coolio.
Is there any way you guys could push for deadzone settings? I heard SF doesn’t have them and Bethesda games usually don’t control well because of the lack of it.
Newsflash: Bethesda fails to release a “Bethesda game” by putting out a full working product.
Boring
We reached a point that we praise developers for doing the bare minimum: launch a polished game! Anyway, I’m sure Bethesda had help from Xbox team to achieve this. Phil Spencer wouldn’t allow another fiasco like Redfall.
The game looks really awesome and I’m very happy because you can already play instead of waiting for an optimization patch like Redfall! 💯⚡
Series s uhhhh 😫what a hold back
Too much hinges upon this release not being the usual Bethesda buggy fare, I’m glad Bethesda had enough time to seemingly smooth it all out in advance this time because the usual botched release was just not gonna cut it this time
They want ps5 owners who love bethesda games to buy a series S just to play starfield.
Personally I think the series s held back this game.
Where all that series X power at? Disappointed.
It should be running at 60 no problem you would think. Series S looks so close, might as well give us those gfx on series X at 60fps.
waiting for pc tests :X
Well goodness me, turns out the Series S is a perfectly good platform and you just had to learn how to code properly.
Weird for Bethesda to give everybody that lesson though 😂
🙂👍
Ngl the graphics look bad to me. So flat and bland with so much aliasing looks muddy and blurry. Kinda yikes. For 30 fps I was expecting a higher fidelity
Xbox series S never size to amaze me… This little console keeps pushing up
The instantaneous response time on OLED makes 30fps unplayable for me. I’ll wait for the PC performance review on whether I play this at launch or after.
I mean Star Citizen is technically a lot better and also looks a lot better, but Starfield is a completed game.
No 60fps is big no. This is unplayable.
I really wanted to play it, but first person 30fps is pure torture.
You guys are not harsh enough on games that ‘target’ 30fps, they only say they target low fps because they didn’t do the work to get it up to 60. you should compare that 30fps to other games that increase resolution in line with the framerate drop. The lack of moving to 60fps genuinely makes me unbothered about playing this
The series x needs a 60 FPS mode I don’t care if it’s native 1080p or upscaled 1440p or upscaled 1080p… In 2023 there is no excuse to not have this option and it should be the standard to have different FPS modes.
Next year we are see FSR 3 on Xbox 💚
Much respect to DF and I’m sure the whole team is quite busy.
However I would’ve much preferred PC coverage first and foremost. But alas, it should be on its way within the next couple days I’m sure.
Stop making excuses for 30fps bullshit if they cant run it at the 60fps or 120fps as originally advertised for the Xbox series x console then don’t release the game on the consoles maybe in 6 or 7 years when we have starfield anniversary edition it will run at a decent fps.
Man immortals looks way better than this game and people gave it shit for running at a sloppy 60fps, and this is 30fps and going to get a pass because bethesda…
It’s sad that this game could’ve been 60 if the series s didn’t exist
Armored Core please
Oh look Series S can actually deliver what Microsoft intended it to do… Interesting.
Seems like devs might be… Lazy? 🤡
I just hate they are still using the outdated creation engine…UE5 or the forza horizon engine look much nicer
“I see no glaring issues,” as he shoots a guy with the future-equivalent of a Mac 10… WHILE he calmly stands up from a sitting position, seemingly impervious to any of it!!
If scuttling the Creation Engine means we won’t get Elder Scrolls 6 for at least a decade, then do it. Just do it. Because this shit is looney tunes, man…
oldukça güzel ve detaylı inceleme. teşekkürler. bu benim ilk bethesda oyunum olucak. daha önce fazla rpg oyunu oynamadım. bakalım nasıl olacak.
So happy to see it plays well on the series s.
30fps?!?
Starfield: X
Sea of Stars: O
This game looks like Fallout, and that is not a compliment.
The review was utterly uninspiring, sounds like he is reading a leaflet on the toilet, or the game was simply awful 😮
These reflections are straight from Borderlands 2, maybe it even had better ones, not hating, just funny to see
Where Armored Core? 🦍
unoptimised ancient engine.
12:52 they pushed the 6 month wait onto everyone instead, and only having one set of console and PC to build the game for made it even easier.
Huettaaa…
Entiendo la versión a 30 fps en las dos consolas, pero me parece que podrían ajustar una opción 1080 con más fps en la series x, de lo contrario no terminan de justificar la potencia de la series x 🤷🏼
hla df!!!
It wouldn’t be a Bethesda game if it didn’t have more bugs than a Taiwanese restaurant.
Series S looks like jagged alliance, but for pixels.
I wonder how much Microsoft is paying for these videos? There is no way this guy is telling the truth.
I’m actually kind of excited for this. As a GamePass user, this is going to be 👍🏿
I heard in future that series x will get a 60fps patch in future.
You can’t land on planets, fly in the atmosphere, the planets have invisible walls that prevent exploration, the human models look over a decade old and there are still tons of bugs even if it’s better than Bethesda usually does. Good thing it’s on gamepass.
Everytime I think I’m finally done with 30fps, they pull me back in! Aight, where you at Alex? You’re up!
30fps = garbage. That is all.
StarLoadingfield
So – crap 30 FPS performance (with dips and drops to 0FPS in the major city) for an AAA flagship game on consoles. I’ll wait for PC version to play at >= 60FPS, which was the promised standard for this generation.
this looks like crap. Am I crazy I feel like especially the folliage looks almost on par with morrowind.
30fps for a first person game in 2023 is so bad.
so glad I bought my 7900XT last week. I got Starfield Premium Edition for free
CPU Intensive you say? I wonder if my Xeon X5690 will be able to handle it, since I don’t plan to retire it… EVER!
The graphics look as good as the PC version of Fallout 4. Dated for sure. But it’s nothing mods can’t fix. I am not concerned.
Well looks like bethesda ups themselves and delivered a mostly bug-free exploration world! and what a WAY to start with!
as an enjoyer of fall out 3 and fan of space exploration games, I am definetivelly looking for it!
So all this time in development and the best they can come up with is 30FPS on an empty boring looking game like this? Even the NPC’s look likey they’re right out of Fallout 4….SMH.
Queue the Sony fanboys and their mental gymnastics to still say how the game is terrible and no one should play it. At least MS doesn’t hate PC players and make them wait 5yrs for a bad port of old games.
Poor 30fps…. Next Gen Game yesss
Go Pc
This look very bland honestly
Did I just hear this man ask for MORE motion blur? wtf
way too many zoomed in comparisons, unhelpful if you’re actually considering buying one of these consoles
Mods are going to save this as usual
2:16 – bro? WTF is this? I mean… ohhhhhhh, fucking Oblivion.
PC Master Race…. Series X 30fps rofl
Dude sounds mad fuckin depressed 😂 sigh** if only this was a Sony exclusive and by a different t devs
I was so ready for this game to be broken at launch. Great to see a stable and polished experience at launch
I hope to god AMD is working on a FSR 3 version of Stairfield implemented as soon as FSR 3 releases. The gains in frame rates that you’ll experience, whether you are running it on Xbox Series X/S, PC, Radeon Cards, or Nvidia Cards is going to be so fundamentally transformative it’ll blow peoples minds. We are talking 2x-3x the frames rate, that most likely at first be FSR 3’s RSR mode that will lower the background native resolution, then upscaled to FSR3 4K, (other than FluidMotion that is only available on the 7000 Series Radeon cards), but will still see a huge jump to performance regardless of the card you have. Out of all the announcements shown off at Gamescom, AMD stole the show with FSR 3. You’re graphics card running Starfield at 30fps right now, will be running it at about 60fps in just a few short weeks to a month, using FSR3’s new RSR mode. Now, if Starfield gets dedicated FSR 3 support, you won’t need to sacrifice performance through RSR, and your Starfield experience at 30fps will run the game at like 90fps+. I can not wait to see this in action!
Xbox exklusiv but only pc is works 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Most positive review so far, other media outlets are not so convinced about empty vast space exploration, calling it boring
really shows that when targeted properly, the series S can deliver good results like it was supposed to. shows we shouldnt accept crappy series s versions because it’s ‘underpowered’
Some bits look stunning other bits look awful, its difficult to know when looking at clips others have posted if it was pre or post patch, items missing when placed in spaceship, characters that wont stop jumping, any idea how long the loads between areas/ship are?
Ιt looks so bad. And alwayls is that fog, even inside the buildings, why?
Guess I’ll buy this on a sale, hope it runs well on linux.
Well that’s disappointing… Was expecting some sort of graphics showcase here on series X, not a huge different for the S…
I TOLD YOU Starfield IS A BAD GAME 87 ON Metacritic Starfield IS A FAIL XBOX LOST HAHAHAHAHHAHAHA
Looking forward to the game but dissappointed to hear that its not native 4k30 and is using FSR to scale it to 4k30. Hopefully Bethesda will fix this in the future. Happy you can turn off mqotion blur though.
Can we get a PS5 performance review?
Oliver is THE best writer at DF by far. I assume these guys write their own scripts for the videos they do and Oliver is an excellent writer and the way he delivers his words is just top notch. Love Oliver.
looks like mud on both, grats microsoft. billions of dollars for some water and dirt. on PC it will be 5902470239743904782 bugs anyway
This game just tortured my eyes. 😣
BG3 patch 2 performance test when?? ❤
How many massive scale Space Games do we have now while Star Citizen is still in Alpha.
30fps still being a thing on 9th gen consoles, now most people might say the Series S could be why, but i doubt it. Xbox One X ran games in 60fps sometimes, while the base Xbox One S consoles ran most games at 30fps.
but see the reason it’s 30fps on both, it’s because Bethesda decided to take full advantage of the hardware between the two. they wanted to achieve 4K on Series X and they wanted to target 1440p on Series S, well judging by the graphics we’re all looking at, it’s likely Bethesda spent a good amount of time between the two consoles.
the Series S looks impressive despite not being a 4K console, but if you bought the game for Series S, would you complain about 1440p, not really. the only thing i would say is, it would’ve been nice if they added a performance mode vs resolution. that way for those who prefer higher frame rates over resolution, you can choose that mode. but see i wasn’t a fan of that last time around, by offering two modes, that means some sacrifice of the games overall visuals had to be reduced in order to have a second mode that can give you 60fps. im more concerned about bugs and the occasional glitches, this is Bethesda were talking about. still the game looks like it might be a hit.
Can’t believe 30 fps is still a thing in 2023
I don’t wanna hate but in some scenes the lighting looks flat out broken or just nonexistent. What is going on there?
Edit: Since you find this comment so amusing, I encourage you to closely observe 2:17 and 3:25
I think the comparison videos are largely a waste of time
Digital Foundry would be better off detailing & analyzing the specs solely on Series X, and to do this from now on indeed
Im gonna laugh if it runs 60fps on the asus rog ally
remember when the console peasants thought they were not going below 120fps this gen? hahaha
If the performance is this stable, is it possible they locked the frame rate on series X for the sake of “parity”?
I’m so ready for pc version man woo!
There’s no such thing as “smooth 30 fps”
Lol 0 fps? This can’t be real
Can’t handle a locked 30fps in 2023 when a locked 60fps should be the bare minimum
Pourquoi j’ai l’impression que c’est en 60fps alors que si je joue chez moi jsuis sur que je vais ressentir le 30fps 😢
30fps…. who is even gonna buy this “game”?
No 60 fps is poor on series x.
Here i am with 4vram xd
Bad part of this game it doesn’t support DLSS on pc I was upset when I didn’t see it and FSR barely gives you a fps boost and the game heavy
Many thanks !!! i have Series S and i see that its playable 100%
30 frames does feel very last gen but hopefully the rest of it impresses.
Why do the trees have zero movement, they look like plastic
the game is trash
Nah nah, you cannot brush off the bugs by saying “this is the most bug free bethesda game” 😆 If the bar is set so low, how can gamers demand more..”well guys you know bethesda, they cannot do any better…still fun”
SD gang were u at?
I only need to know one thing: can the reticle and xp counter be turned off?
All PVE FPS games are 37.4 times more immersive without a stupid dot in the centre of the screen.
(Unless you’re playing as a cyborg who has a hud)
wow a dev shipping a polished game not only that but its bethesda
Is this game not on ps5? Wtf that would be some backwards shit. 30fps only 😂😂😂😂😂 what a useless game on xbox. Its like going back in time to 2002 to play games. No 60fps option is hilarious in 2023 it should be 60fps minimum n 120fps option
Fallout 4 gets boring quick. I cant imagine 100 planets worth of it.
No 60 fps.
I’ll wait for the PC one
the idea of a stable Bethesda experience is very exciting to me.
Thanx can’t wait for tonight
My Series S was £250… I’m constantly amazed at its size and capability. It’s not perfect, obviously, but running Starfield as well as that? For £250? Amazing really.. I’ve spent more on a backpack. 🤪
Not bad coming from Bethesda but being an Xbox flagship it looks flat and nothing breathtaking or top of the line, still running at 30 fps, not to mention that it’s full of loading screens and limitations on exploration.
But well, at least it’s good to see a game that’s playable on day one (more so being Bethesda, once more)… how far we’ve come.
30fps is a joke and unacceptable. Its 2023 ffs. Give me the series S settings with a 60fps option on Series X. Ill take that all day. Im gonna pass on this until theres a 60 option.
Tbh Red Dead Redemption looks much more impressive. This doesn’t look very next gen
Console analysis are so unneceessary because there are almost no graphics options available for most games. You put the game in, select performance or graphics mode (which usually makes your framerate suck dicks), and play.
PC master race says build yourself a real gaming rig. It’s worth it. If you can’t afford a real gaming rig, you can even go middle budget and still crush console specs.
“A bit of shimmer”
30 fps on current gen consoles is just sad.
Looking forward to the PS5 version
Epic flop of the most hyped game I’ve ever seen so far in my life. And IGN and PCGamer are not thrilled… Way to go, Microsoft/Bethesda. You can now leave the gaming business for good, thank you very much. I don’t remember the last time I even cared about a Bethesda RPG. Played Oblivion and Skyrim briefly, and Fallout 3, 4, 76, new vegas, etc are all the same damn game. Bethesda RPG’s are just too much of the same every single time.
“It took me a while to find that fun, though. Starfield’s introduction is unusually straightforward for a Bethesda RPG, and the first handful of places you visit, including the game’s capital city of New Atlantis, are pretty dull. It took about a dozen hours before I started really enjoying it, but after rolling credits on the main quest with one character and ignoring that quest to become an aspiring drug kingpin with another, I can finally say that, in the end, I like Starfield.”
Hey he managed to talking about PlayStation $$, good work DF not at all obvious.
Can’t say ive heard of Starfield before now, looks interesting, but probably not for me
So we have land masses that are mostly deserts? I expected more growths at least on some planets.
Its 30fps. Thats enough let down not to play this crap. I wont play a game in 2023 at 30fps. BYE
2015 npc faces
I was close to the edge of deciding to try it, but 30 fps for an RPG that doesn’t really even look that great is the killer for me and my tastes. There are so many amazing games to play right now that this one is an easy ignore, even as a gamepass subscriber.
Can’t wait to play this on Series X, Series X2, Series X3, and then my smart fridge in 2050 (ultimate edition)
Not my sort of game, but well done Bethesda 👍
Bethesda games always run at 30 fps on console.
Just remember everyone the main quest lines or even side quests isnt the meat and potatoes here. Just wait about a couple months from now mods will hit and shits gonna hit the fan in the form of endless content and performance fixes by the community. Lets fucking goolooooo
You know the world is going to h e double hockey sticks when Bethesda puts out a competent game at launch.
Wouldve loved a 1080p 60fps option. Having to play at 4k (upscaled) at 30 should not be forced.
This game its for pc gamers… 30 fps… not good for any game
Shill shilled on shillington, shill!
For all of you waiting to play the game the hype is real. Lucky enough to have gotten an early copy and it’s absolutely amazing. Sci-fi fans are gonna love it! Rpg fans especially Bethesda fans are gonna love it. It’s the best game they have ever made and should win tons of awards!
Fallout 4 + Call of Duty infinite warfare = Starfield
This is one of those “eh, it’s on Game Pass so I’ll try it” kind of games
all that extra playstation shade lol shady df lmao
The NPCs still stare straight at you? 😅 just feels so weird
Currently playing Skyrim with little graphics mods. This will look just fine to me on my series s
The awkward moment when a mostly bug free game delivered by Bethesda is now considered a “massive accomplishment”… 😛
Great to hear it isnt a FPS Killer. I know they told you Guys it wont be and it was just the Trailers but… why they never addressed this is just beyond me. Thats why i love to hear its actually just a few Frames here and there if even.
The single fact it is not 60 fps makes it a subpar graphical game for me. Ah well, at least the game is not always online 🙂
I thought this was advertised as native 4k game on Series X 🧐
Honestly Fallout 4 looks better and more atmospheric..this games looks last gen..
Bethesta and bug free experience is a lil too much. I’ll be playing this game for sure and if they did a game with no bugs in 2023. I would say: Great job Bethesta
12:38. “Super polished” but has bugs? Reviewers got WHIPPED and beat into compliance on this one. This game will be a mess, guaranteed. Can’t believe DF is really implying that one should buy this day one instead of waiting for the huge patches that we all know it will need.
40fps or bust….
This game would benefit nicely with a PRO version of the Xbox Series X. 🤔
As a Playstation 5 main console owner with a Series S bought as a Gamepass machine and a way to play Starfield, I’m really happy to see how amazingly optimised the game is for the Series S! Can’t wait to start playing the game tomorrow
I only have one question. Why did they lock the game on 30 fps? Thats just annoying.
It will play much better on the ps5, but PlayStation does not allow such bull crap.
Hopefully they review performance of Armored core 6 after the disappointing performance of elden ring
Needs a 40fps VRR option.
Playstation players are mad in the comments and punching the air right now
It doesn’t look good…
Maybe buy this on pc on October not in a hurry because pre ordered phantom Liberty for cyberpunk more excited for that.. watched gameriot starfield and it looks pretty boring..
this game looks like a sequel to The Outer Worlds
No PC graphics testing?
I genuinely believe the X could have run the game at 60 FPS with some graphical tweaks, but the stupid feature parity thing is holding it back because of the S
Xbox’s biggest game in years and it’s locked at 30fps. Tragedy
Again ps exclusive better than xbox we understood.
Still very happy I went for the Series S. Affordable and capable
Oliver gets better every video! Great job and great video!
30 frames LMFAO
The 30fps target makes it unbearable to play and makes it look very dated. Stupid decision not to have the XSS settings available on XSX too in a performance mode.
Considering the S hits around 80 Watts max, this is impressive.
To expect more from the system would be naive.
For the money spent, what an incredible console.
Imagin a few years ago saying something along the lines of “technically proficient and talented studios like Respawn and CD Projekt are going to release technical mess’s that may never be fixed, but Bethesda’s newest game will have basically none of those problems.”
I mean… Whatever, first party from everyone, most of the time, delivers – but still….
It definitely looks more Fallout than Elder Scrolls which is disappointing cuz I much prefer swords & sorcery to nuclear apocalypse.
If you read between the lines and given that Microsoft basically “owns” DF, this is not promising.
So the game isn’t a disaster technically is what we aspire to?
Hope the PC port runs at more than 30 fps
My tv is 1080p. I would rather they have a mode that caps it at 1080p for an fps boost for people without 4k tvs
Where’s ps5??
excited to see what fsr 3 can do for this game. seeing as its from amd, who also sponsored this game. maybe we potentially get a 60fps option at some point????????
graphics look horribly outdated and it performs barely 30 fps and its with the help of fsr.
Not gonna lie, the graphics are a disappointment but I’m hoping the gameplay is great because I’m still hyped to play.
“Potential Players Perturbed” – Nice. However, I am looking forward to PC Performance Probing. Also, what do I have to sacrifice to play on the go while I’m not on my PC, using the Steam Deck. (I hope you do a analysis on this too – even if it’s added as a quick sidenote to the PC analysis). Also – a dig at MS here – it’s too bad that PS5 code and development was discontinued when Bethesda was bought by MS . It would have been interesting to see a Series X vs PS5 comparison.
دمت گرم
It really does suck that it doesn’t run above 30 fps on Series X. I’m sure people would appreciate the option to toggle
Graphics looks like plastic.. No way does this look better than Horizon forbidde west..
Im not gonna play this at 30 fps. Sorry.
I don’t understand how this is only hitting a native 1440p on Series X. The visuals aren’t bad, but Starfield looks like a remastered last-gen title to me. There’s no wow factor that would have me thinking that 1440p/30 is all that the Series X can handle.
Dolby Vision Support on Xbox Series X?
Digital Foundry’s reviewer that puts you to sleep with his ASMR voice once again.
Maybe I should make a playlist to help me get to sleep.
Or maybe I should play Starfield that looks like it would help me sleep too.
These people are fast… when it isn’t a PS game critique.
Needed this after the horrendous coverage from IGN.
Watched several reviews and it doesn’t sound compelling enough to warrant the time it demands to be invested.
Back to the backlog until the next new releases this autumn.
Can’t wait to try my 3080 out tonight at 530 when early access comes out
Best asmr video i’ve seen in a while
Disappointing it’s 30fps. I thought new gen consoles were moving away from this & it’s not even stable 30.
Is buying the XS worth it for this game?
No 60fps they took an L
they better let me turn off those invasive hit counters
Nah they can keep this bullet sponge trash.
Why doesn’t Microsoft get Bethesda to Upgrade Starfield to FSR 3.0 for better graphics
So is it impossible to run it at 1080p 60 fps? I don’t care about 2k or 4k since my monitor is 1080p anyways
Well, I’m impressed and surprised
Oliver sounds very tired.
30fps is devastating 😢😫
I had to check the Youtube video wasn’t playing on 240p by mistake it actually looks that fuzzy for real ?
I think I’ll go back to spending my money on Diaclone and Gi Joe Classified toys then.
This looks lovely for a game that came out 10 years ago, for now, not so much.
Cyberpunk and starfield are both the best games that have come out recently
Very impressive review thank you DF, 30fps looks smooth on the consoles and fine if you have a $500 system as appose a PC which i cant wait to see.
Will there be a report for steam deck? I know it likely won’t run well, but I’m still curious
Oliver’s mic/voice mix is always too low
that kinda sucks that it only runs at 30fps on console. i’ll play through it on pc if it runs at 60
Looks mediocre for still fresh “next-gen” console. This is drawback of having 2 consoles to optimize. Good for series s bad for x
30 fps? Thanks but no thanks.
Those graphics are horrible i dont get how they can’t manage to do 60fps
30 fps 😂
Ok, game is working stable, but…
Did you see this graphics? Is it just me, or the graphic in this game is horrible? Especially I can say that about people and animations in dialogs. It looks like TES Oblivion… But Oblivion is 17 years old game, by the way… Just compare this animations with Baldur’s Gate 3. Larian is small studio, and they don’t have big budgets. Bethesda is a part of Microsoft, Microsoft has the unlimited money and Starfield should be a GAME, a reason why you should want to buy Xbox or Game Pass. And we see this cringe. LMAO.
The ia looks so bad omg
Some starfield scores:
IGN France gave a 9/10
Edit : IGN Brazil gave a 9.5/10
Edit 2 : IGN Japan gave a 10/10
Edit 3 : IGN Spain gave a 10/10
No seemless transition (always loading) to the hype game is a no to me. Plus why exterior environment looks likes PS3 ?? It’s looks so bad, can’t believe it’s looks likes this
Guys hear me out (for xbox series s users), first of all you don’t play a game with the zoom. Second go to your tv settings and increase sharpness to the max and your super reslotion to high then increase color dibt by 10 numbers and congrats you just get a series x with 299 😊😊😊.
Once again, appreciate the review.
cant wait to destroy my 4090
Lol series x same as the old gen series s
“prospective players perturbed by the potential”
Actual QA testing on a Bethesda game? WHAT MADNESS IS THIS!??
Series X looks like Xbox 360
Glad the performance has turned out to be fairly good on xbox consoles,The reviews are all over the place so im guessing a true review will be after about 300 hours of gameplay or even more than that for a true honest overview.
The ai looks really dumb I can’t be the only one that feels that way
So defo not game of the year lol
I’m appalled at the lack of child murder in this game. The rest of it looks alright.
Fsr3 on this will be awesome
Now we understand that picture woth phil spencer haha you guys got paid really good
I want to play this game just to find out how accurate the reviews are.
As along as this can hit a smooth cinematic feeling 30fps without being choppy I’ll be happy. However if it dips and studders then it’s a problem. Yea I would rather have 60fps but this game is an adventure through the galaxy and not a skill based twitchy shooter like Doom. So I’m ok with having something more like a beautiful journey with a story and experience with depth even if it’s at 30fps.
Respect to Oliver for perfectly annunciating “Series X and S” so many times in this vid. That’s gotta turn into a tongue twister after a while
Series S games starting to look Switch-esque in their resolution, Joe.
Meanwhile in a galaxy far far away in the dumb side of the Galaxy..
IGN: No QTEs or sad dad, only poor parents asking for 2%
Just curious how well this game combines CYberpunk 2077 and Wing Commander
I think Starfield shows that the Creation Engine needs to be put out to pasture. BGS doesn’t seem to be pushing the new hardware anywhere near its limits, yet the game still has constant loading screens even though all its doing is loading in a small area. It doesn’t matter what “overhauls” BGS makes to Creation Engine or what number they put at the end (Creation Engine 2.0, Creation Engine 3.0, 4.0, etc..), it’s core is still the old Creation Engine which can’t keep up with modern hardware. It needs rebuilt from the ground up.
WHERE THE FUCK IS THE PC REVIEW?!?!
Love yer content btw haha
I wish we could get at least 40 frames on series x. Hopefully I can enjoy it at 30. I typically refuse to even play a game that’s 30FPS. But I’ve made a exception with starfield. For obvious reasons.
You know back when the ps5 and xbox series x released I was like wow these are the most impressive consoles ever i am half tempted to buy one…. it only took 2 years for almost every big name game on consoles to be hard locked to 30 fps not even in their “resolution/4k” modes lol just 30 fps to be even playable. Seen a lot of whining over gpu prices the past year but seeing consoles locked to 30 at 1080p with medium settings not even rt in half the titles it really puts in to perspective that a 500 dollar vs 500 dollar gpu is not even close in performance lol
Did they use VRS TIER2 ?
Or take advantage from direct ml
To achieve higher details and higher frame rate?
Mario Wonder steels the show immo
MS must have pumped in a lot of money to help Bathesda get this thing to run this well. Do or die for them.
Congratulations to Bethesda for such a polished launch, very happy to see this.
This is good to hear 👌 looking forward to some crazy adventures
So basically they sacrificed 60fps for some semblance of console parity. I blame Microsoft and Bethesda for this failure. Hopefully they offer a Performance Mode on Series X at least in the future.
cant wait to play at 30-60 fps with random dips to 25 on my 5700xt
The console versions stand no hope against the POWER of the PC!
i was pretty hyped before this, now i am even more hyped about the game.
I thought you guys said you did not get an early review copy?
This is a Masterpiece! ⭐🚀🪐
The video is pretty good as well!
The indoor graphics remind me of Wolfenstein
The graphics seems “dirty” to me, I can’t find another word to explain it
seems like it’s well made and looks like a nice bump up in the graphics from their previous entries. probably will play on game pass though cause most of my excitement was thrown out when it was revealed you can’t actually fly to planets and land on them 😞 the space travel seems pretty dull and limiting
Stop blaming the hardware for the 30fps as this is all on the devs lack of effort and motivation to deliver 60fps on Xbox Series X
I’m sick of people talking crap about the Consoles CPUs because there’s no bottleneck when In the hands of competent devs who actually care which maximize performance…….
Starfield looks last gen at best and there’s no CPU bottlenecks in these Consoles as the 30fps intentional lock is a direct result of a lack of optimization as the devs simply didn’t even try to push the Xbox Series X to its maximum potential as this game could easily run 60fps or higher no problems at all if the devs actually cared but nope people defending their lack of ambition and lack of performance mode optimization so they said who cares nobody’s complaining about 30fps because we’re Bethesda so why do the extra work and spend extra time and effort to push the game for a performance mode………
Every 1st party exclusive on PlayStation 5 runs 60fps or 120fps no problems at all and that’s because Sony mandates performance modes on their 1st party exclusives to ensure the quality standard is met and unfortunately Microsoft simply doesn’t give a shit and Horizon Forbidden West is significantly more demanding visually, and it runs an average of around 90fps with the unlocked Vrr mode and it makes Starfield look like a last gen game, and then rift apart runs an average of around 90fps with Vrr unlocked frame rate mode and that’s while using the Vrr Ray Tracing performance mode, and literally looks like a Pixar movie as it’s incredible and it often runs above 100fps while using ray tracing that’s because Sonys 1st party studios push the PS5 to its potential as these Consoles don’t have 30fps bottlenecks when competent devs actually put forth the time and effort to maximize performance as it’s that simple and Bethesda is lazy and doesn’t give a shit about Xbox Series X gamers which is Why PS5 is the dominant platform……….
Lmao, so this is Starfield. That motion blur does look great I agree, I’ll give it a shot on PC after the patches roll-out
Warzone looks better than this trash. Some 9 year old is in charge of the lighting system? 😅
Been dragging my feet on getting a powerful pc. Maybe this and cyberpunk’s new expansion are the catalyst for me to get a 4090. I need this game running 60+fps and adult mods.
Dislike for understating the differences so much.
What is the comparable pc hardware for a Xbox X 4K 30fps ?
I haven’t got this game yet, what is the following going to achieve?
Nvidia 3070, Ryzen 7 5700x and a SSD with 32gb ram.
Thanks
The graphics look ok, but the animation and talking head look of the npcs make it look very last gen.
SERIES X FOREVER!!!!!!
This is next generation graphics? 😂
again with the console where the pc ?
Outdated graphics, bad draw distance and 30fps. Imagine Microsoft’s own exclusives cannot Hit 60fps. First it was Redfall, now this.
Es horrible la jugabilidad grafico historia FPS etc👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽👎🏽
Not a peep about the terrible AI, clipping enemies, bad animations and water physics, cardboard NPC’s and planets that are just flat images instead of actual geometry. Makes you wonder.
Don’t see why consoles get priority over PC coverage when it was confirmed they will run it at 30 FPS.
D4, BG3, AC6, Remnant 2, System Shock Remake, Atomic Heart and now Starfield. If i took the rest of the year off work, i might fit all that in. What a year for gaming it’s turning out to be – and that’s not including some big names on the Switch, which i don’t own. Tempted to upgrade my 5600x to 5800x3D as a last hurrah for AM4 gaming too!
Got this ready to go on the big PC but I’m really curious about how well it runs on the Steam Deck if at all.
Its a broken mess on PC…..
Its on a good shape you say..Wait,What??
30fps LOCk hahahahahhaha in 2k23 hahahahhahahhaha
Xboxs No Man Sky. But that game matured. This is meh
This last-gen graphics game is sponsored by… Microsoft (in that pic moment).
I hope Oliver gets his cateracts removed soon. He does not seem to be ssing too well. I have a feeling he will have 20/20 vision by mid October. I wonder why.
So developers’ past efforts make this relatively good performing… Good to know… Nintendo and Sony games, u are f’ckd!!
appreciate the great work you did for this video, friend. Thank you.
PAID 💸💸💸💰💰💰💰💰
I’ve been looking forward to seeing how does this game runs on an Xbox Series S. I’m considering buying one for cheap.
Damn Todd wasn’t full of it when he said the series s version looks good
26fps with xbox one graphics is insane
2K upscaled, sub 30 fps, NEXT GEN gaming right here with the power of EGGS BOX EX.
wow series s kinda impressive occasional stuttering aside, if i were an s user i would be happy with the tradeoffs
On xbox series s looks like a ps3 game 😂😂
We need the PC performance and graphics breakdown
Jesus, Oliver, they hate Xbox as much as John. Why pick them for this breakdown?
Where’s the PS5 version 🤭
Glad it sounds like it’s low on the bugs this time. However, 30fps is a very tough pill to swallow at this point. I respect their decision to stick with a stable 30, but I just don’t enjoy when games run at 30fps, so I probably won’t play it anytime soon. Not a “never”, but definitely much lower on my to-play list than it would have been at 60.
Congratulations DF, enjoy that retirement check M$ has sent you guys in the mail 😂😂Shimmer fest, AI on par with Dynasty Warriors 2, Empty hub worlds, empty planets, 30 – 19fps (strongest console in the universe so they say) frequent load times exiting spaces, NPC’s look like mannequins lmao.
Will we ever get 60fps on console?…….. 😢😢😢
30fps, probably medium graphic settings & loading screens.
As this is more by hardware limitation than poor optimization, you can guess what kind of requirements this game has at 4k60fps
Besthesda seems to have learned their lesson from Fallout 76. Also I’m sure Todd saw how well the launch of Cyberpunk went and just knew they couldn’t mess this one up.
Good to know that Series S users will still have a good time.
Finally real gamers play 30fps
Only 30fps is very disappointing.
Bugfield
I was wondering until half of video why would you just compare only two xbox consoles, why not compare it with ps5 as well but then I remembered 😅
6:40 perfect example of FSR motion artifacts ¬¬
… and Bethesda should at least upgrade it to 3.0+
YES SERIES S RULES AND NOBODY BELIEVE IN THE LITTLE ONE
If it wasn’t for Series S, Starfield would be running at 60FPS.
what a disappointment of a game… if there was no such hype, it would’ve been a reasonable 8/10… but too much hype killed the game :/
Meh. Its ok i guess. Im still rocking an xbox one so makes no diffrence to me really. I like my games 900p and with janky frame rates.
Would you think Starfield could get a 60FPS patch after FSR3 comes out?
One of the games i bought a Series X for. I can’t wait.
Another FPS but even worse at 30fps.Not getting my money.Shovel ware at best.
I would not have thought to review loading times during missions in such a big game in 2023! 😨
Bethesda never really knows how to optimize a game. The game looks good, but no way should it be running at 30fps..poor engine & optimization. Classic
4:29 in this case I prefer the SS over SX versions of the terrain (strange the design is different that way).
Game of the generation
I will be playing this game 10 years later when the DLCs and enough mods have been released with the future hardware that can do 8K 120FPS.
Can’t wait to play on my series s tonight
Not what I’ve been waiting for 😂 I’m waiting for the PC Performance ! 😭
Any ETA on it or when it would be on Patreon?
This is way beyond my expectations for the game! I was planning to play it in 9-12 months when the patches have arrived, but it looks ready to dive into now.
This guy puts me to sleep. Wish John did every video.
10k likes already 🤜💥🤛
We have to start holding Bethesda to higher standards just like any AAA game when it comes to performance, we gotta stop using Bethesda standards lol
IT HOLDS 30 FPS LETS GOOOOOOOOOOO Fallout 4 CRAPED IT SELF trying to HOLD STABLE FPS
I can already see the “starfield dips to 7fps on Xbox Series X, starfield more like starflop” comments and the “Xbox can’t even handle starfield at 30fps” comments.
This game could’ve benefitted so much from a 40fps mode
No shots in Third person view?
Can you plese not zoom in when comparing visual quality ? Nobody plays like that. Keep it scaled to normal size and compare it at that level. Keep the test real. zooming in brakes the “magic” that makes the game look good regardless of hardware. Play it on a big TV from 3m away, even the S will look well.
About the game, it has a feeling of Fallout 4 in space. Some animations and assets seems reused. Also it’s graphics looks dated, like it is from 2014 or so.
Thank god I have a PC. Nothing in this game screams needs to be 30fps. Looks like a late ps4 gen game
whats the point of having next gens but still playing in 30fps
Flagship game at 30FPS on XSX? Awesome ! Great !
Well polished for Series S!
Series X basically doing 4k fsr2 quality (internal 1440p) is giving me some hope my 6700xt will do just fine here. That being said, thank god they decided to go with a higher internal resolution for FSR2, it looks SO much cleaner than other games that are essentially running an internal resolution of 720p or below. FSR2 is fine with an internal resolution of 1080 or better, and quite good at 1440p internal, it’s just that below that it falls apart FAST.
I have to laugh every time I see that absolutely atrocious gunplay.
It really is mesmerizing that they can release a 30 fps game and have DF go along with it as if it was acceptable or normal. I guess there was some amount of money involved
Looking forward to the Armored Core 6 report
Why is the footage so washed out? The black levels seem raised permanently like. Also in other “leaked” footage that was the case.
1 second pause…?
69k views is a good amount of views 😂
What is the resolution of Xbox series s?
Looks horrible.
A lot of meat riding of the reviewer in the comments, most seem very similar. No mention of the game itself which is disappointing when it comes to visuals and performance especially for series X.
It is either DF sold out big time or we have a miracle on our hands.
Aliasing like crazy on both consoles though…
How does the PS version look?😊
30fps… Gosh, cannot express how glad I am that I am no longer on a console 😀
S definitely held back X yet again
the lighting, especially in exterior environments looks kinda flat
looking at the series x version they obviously can make a 60 fps option…only if
Series S is not meant to run on a 4K screen. It’ll probably look better on a 1080p-1440p screen because it doesn’t need to upsale that much.
Great vid as always. I think for now il play CP2077 liberty city, and definitely get starfield in the future. Prob get more polished experience by then to. Enjoy folks, looks great.
30 fps only makes sense when it’s lockes. Good to hear that consoles hold their ground
Showing the results of Microsoft Hard Drive Decisions. Because if there wasn’t any limitations there could be one big load at the beginning of the game and everything loaded into memory. Sad to see so many loading screens. What’s up with the foliage rendering?
Not having a 60fps performance mode is a massive letdown and pretty ridiculous for a first party title in 2023
Is no one going to talk about how bad the game looks while in New Atlantis? The NPCs look bas too. The rest of the game looks good but this map looks so bad.
The combat still doesn’t look good.
Siri’s ass. subtitles are funny sometimes.
I’ll wait for the anniversary edition in 2043. Native 8K, 120 FPS, and all DLCs.
When can we expect the PC overview from you guys? Seems weird to only do xbox once the embargo lifted.
Come on, Alex! We need our PC analysis. 😃
I read somewhere that the game after 20 hours is very buggy
Someone told me there’s already a patch for the steamdeck performance but i can’t find it anywhere so xbox it is
Waaait, no bugs in 20 hours? I don’t believe him.
Performance for the hardware looks absolutely terrible.
60 fps only on PC 💪🏿
now they need to add FSR3.0 and i think they can target 60FPS
Fantastic technical review Oliver!
Does it have a FOV slider on xbox?
Xbox performance …. smh. What happened to you guys, where is the PC content ? Shame!
Bethesda making a game that looks good AND performs actually really good, dang how the days have changed when Bethesda can make a less buggy experience than CD-projekt red and others.
So let me ask this, if I have an Xbox Series X connected to a 1080p 120hz capable monitor, I’m getting 30fps, however will I be getting the improved performance from the Series X when displaying in 1080p? Considering the Series S renders at 900p, I’m sure the 1080p Series X performance will be somewhat better, right??
I’m glad Oliver got the assignment
NICE overview!
I honestly think Bethesda was just going to do the mass effect 1 thing in regards to travel and planets. But when that started to be done by other people, even if on a smaller scale, like Outer Worlds, I think Todd figured they had to go big or go home. Maybe this isn’t the best idea for the Bethesda formula – But at least they’re toying wit it and attempting to do new things, innovating and making a game that we really cant find anywhere else, which is what they’ve been great at. All their open world RPGs were happening before games knew what an open world game would be like really, and I’d be bummed if they just started moving towards Ubisoft’s formulaic worlds and stopped doing new things.
But honestly, I’m just excited to mod out one of these empty worlds and design my own planet with creatures and quests and stuff!! This is going to be my biggest bethesda mod project yet =D
waiting for the Armored Core 6 analysis
Pc version will max out 3 or 4 cpu cores and the gpu usage will be unstable
I hope that Alex will try 60 fps with a Series-X-like PC setup. Nothing what I saw in this video says „I couldn’t run at 60 fps on console“.
Todd finally kept his promises
Nice! So the series s and x practically run this game the same!
that resolution drop makes the series s look really bad by comparison. Can’t wait to see the PC video.
Great review
looks HORRIBLE, soild 30 fps?? on 70fov lmao
This is all due to Microsoft giving them the time o do so – pre Microsoft Todd would’ve released a buggy mess no doubt.
720p and 400p on series x/s and stuttering this ins’t consistetly enough😂
Yup Fallout 4 in space. No Mans Sky is a superior game
It’s nice when a game is pretty and doesn’t look like mud. But all those that just spent 100+hrs in tears of the kingdom know that gameplay is ultimately more important. Hoping it’s good.
Those cubemap reflections literally look like Mincraft lol
Samsung tv with freesync premium 50in screen gonna look fine 😉
A surprise for sure, but a welcome one.
honestly given Bethesdas history, i’m think they did very well from what ive heard so far
This game is only 30 fps????!
I need to try and de-programme my brain, all the way back to 2010 and pretend that 30fps is a smooth experience. I enjoyed so many games from the past where it wasn’t a problem. I had no desire or knowledge whatsoever of what it was like going beyond 30fps. Let’s pretend it’s all good. This is a premium gaming experience from the early noughties. My brain will get used to the jaggedy, janky ass slide show.
This comment genuinely started out positive and ended pessimistic. I simply cannot, no matter how hard I try, accept that 30fps is good anymore. It feels rank awful. It may be locked and consistent, but consistently shite. I’ll try the game, but I do so with trepidation, especially as it’s an FPS
Is it just me, or the trees and plants look like something from the PS2 era?
I’d rather have garbage graphics and it run at 60fps. 30fps sucks.
It’s looking better than I expected. But why is the black of space portrayed as grey in the game?
Honestly, the game looks terrible and face animations are even worse for the immersion.
So now DF is saying 30 FPS is running “good” on next gen hardware in 2023.. somethings fishy about this…
I wish you talked about the lighting. Is it global illumination? Apparently it’s real time
30 fps👎
30FPSlideshow on Series X “the most powerful console” no thanks not even gonna waste my time downloading it from gamepass😂 not even a 40FPS option for users with 120Hz displays. What a joke 30FPS from a AAA first party studio from microsoft in 2023🤡 I get 30FPS for series S but Series X?!?! LMFAO
Not surprising on the segmentation since it is still using their crappy engine just the fact that they were able to get it to this level is impressive but is also very disappointing as its the likely culprit on why it’s 30FPS only cause it’s still heavily single threaded.
2:16 These plants and some flat 2D rocks on the ground look like GameCube and some faces like 360… yeah, that bad… at least beautiful in much more aspects! ^^
Dead at launch!!! 7fps on weakbox series x is extremely funny!
The Original Xbox had 30 fps.. This game is a joke
cant wait for the pc port analysis!
Character models and animations are laughable In this game.
Shame there isnt an unlocked framerate option and support for VRR/Freesync. 30FPS is the bare minimum and is way worse than 40-50 FPS on a freessync monitor/TV. 40FPS cap for a 120Hz non VRR TV would be way better too. The Xbox hardware and OS supports this, it should be a toggle in every game.
What about pc??
Stop making excuses for upscaled resolutions. Upscaled 900p isnt 1440p nor nearly as good.
It’s looks good on both platforms and I have a series s on my Samsung 4K smart tv 32”
I really don’t agree with people calling 1440p upscaled to 4K, 4K. All it does is promote misinformation and confusion. But technically you can get away with it by not calling it native 4K.
Why did Microsoft even make a Series S? Just a bad decision. I had no second thought on getting my Series X.
Cheers mate, can’t see when I’m going to stop playing and do a x4 zoom to see faults
I’m seeing all these great work comments, but the game still runs at 30fps in 2023
WalledField.
It’s awesome to finally see a Bethesda game polished at launch! I just wished they would’ve focused on improving the upper tier Series X version instead of creating parity between the high performing and the underperforming consoles. The game is pretty flat and dull across the board. Let’s hope the PC version spruces up the visuals.
It’s strange, it may just be my eyes but I feel a lot of the image is washed out… graphics look great but almost like the game needs to be brought down 20 percent…
Locked 30 FPS on a XBOX X in 2023 (and considering the relative mediocre visuals) is not really a reason to celebrate – AND the overall “scope” is pretty irrelevant when most of it is heavily segmented and “connected” by a load screens.
Give us PC Benchmarks! Nobody cares about consoles – it has been confirmed they run at 30 fps which is laughable.
Really enjoy your reviews, Oliver! Looking forward to Alex’s upcoming PC report
30 fps in 2023. 30 fps. 30. Thirty. How about no.
Wow i expected to have bugs and so much issues with it so it looks like they done a wonderful job on it with optimization. Lets see if the pc can hold up to this good news of performance but yes as always your going to need a 4090 and a top end cpu to get there lol out of reach for me so i won’t be playing it
Always appreciate your stuff
Locked 30 Seriously?
Bethesda offering content quality? you’ve never played fallout 76 or skyrim then lmao
Game looks great. Will be waiting a few months to allow modders a chance to enhance it. Sounds like it could still use it but overall, very excited.
My main issue here is aiming on controller looks not intuitive at all. So definitely sticking to PC on this (on top of the 60 FPS).
Great to hear the launch is in good shape! Been holding off getting a Series X until this came out. Will still wait a few weeks for a couple of patches but great to hear some positivity regarding a Bethesda game!
Ain’t no way you tryna say this runs good
Loading screens in 2023??
Grew up loading C64 tapes, I can take loading screens over stuttering during combat hands down.
The faces look very poor, I’ve seen a lit better on PS4.
Will my I7 8700K reach 60 fps on high lol
the game looks extremely underwhelming
GOTY
The 30 FPS issue is a Creation Engine thing. The CE ties the Physics Engine to the graphical Frame Rate. This has been true since Fallout 3. Use a mod to break the 30 FPS lock in Fallout 4 and watch as the game’s physics go completely super stupid.
The game gets very buggy after 30 hours, apperently. So anyone taking this review as gospel should know that stuff starts to break around the 30-hour mark
Man those loading screens within the ship are rough and outdated. I remember John making a big deal out of it in Twitter in other games though.
Bethesda should’ve waited a bit longer for better console hardware perhaps.
What about FOV can you change that on console?
I could just tell review scores wouldnt be as universal as they were with some other games.
And that’s fine. I fully expect to have a ton of fun with Starfield, but I’m also not risking any money playing on PC Game Pass.
Guessing others buying on Steam may not have the patience to sit through a slow first 10 hours to get to the good stuff.
What the point of having feature of VRR and ai upscaling if they don’t unlock the fps. I though those feature was post to help fps.
what about number of npcs on both?
Beautiful
Sometimes IT looks OK..and Sometimes really Bad..
Did you get a code to review this before Eurogamer did? Because if so the parrating of “ALL outlets” when people have been talking about all UK outlets not getting codes is simply wrong.
the game looks really bad on consoles. i hope the pc version will be good.
Series X is such a powerful console 9:51, Bethesda has the best engine and performance optimizations in their games. 2023 has been a great year for gaming!
Anyone know if there is some kind of ‘Slow-Motion-Kill-Cam’ during the combat gameplay? I know there isn’t anything like the V.A.T.S. system in Fallout, but was hoping for something different
GOTY ✅
The Xbox Series S is really impressive on that game. Perhaps the best console of this generation !
30fps
Pass.
DLSS can clean those shimmering. I wish if the PC version has DLSS support
if this game reviews well on PC I’m gonna finally make the jump. Still will use my xbox to play with friends, but I’m ready for the higher frames and fidelity
So it’s a dumpster fire that struggles to get 30 FPS on the Xbox. Explains the absurd PC system requirements.
Can’t wait to see this tested on the Steam Deck. I guess the city scenes might melt it’s poor ol’ quad core CPU…
30Fps in 2023. That’s progress……
Who could imagine.. Bethesda released a game without bugs, a game that shames the other juggernauts released this year from day one. Good for them. Recommended day one buy alongside TOTK.
Ready to be a space pirate! Everyone going to die
NPC’s still have dead eyes, but facial animation looks ok.
I had hoped DF would have some footage and feedback of performance and gameplay feel while playing in 3rd person
Why does every single screen shot look empty lol.
Bethesda is just stupid beyond measure for not including 60fps mode when everyone can clearly see this game is looking almost same on both consoles… You literally have to know where to look to spot any differences, in other places this game looks like x360 release… For me it’s just joy, I’m not interested in Bethesda games, they just give me joy when I see them fail one time after another 😂😂😂😂 go ahead make another game in Skyrim engine it works wonders 😂😂😂 and their effort to not include dlss despite fact AMD said they don’t mind at all is just 😂😂😂😂😂
Starfield looks insane.
In my experience, shimmering is the FSR’s biggest issue. We could have had DLSS.
So in sterile rocky environments its 30fps after upscaling. In ‘busy’ but quite empty looking City environs its stuttering. Lets see a dense forest and then we can make a judgement call on performance.
lol it’s dipping to mid 20’s on series x
Good news, way better at launch to previous games
not going to lie the performance of all the consoles disappoints me based on all the hyper people had for them. as personally my baseline is 60 fps.
Runs fine, especially on Series S. But I’m not impressed. Global illumination looks pretty unrealistic and dated. NPCs and monsters float around with unconvincing shadows, and the New Atlantis scenario looks atrocious. It looks like it could fit nicely to PS4 Pro and XBONE X
Genuinely happy to hear this runs well and looks pretty good. I feel like they didn’t need procedurally generated planets and could have just taken an Outer Worlds type approach (or dare I say, Outer Wilds approach) but I don’t think that’s going to be such a big issue so long as the missions and sidequests keep the player in more curated and interesting areas.
Particularly in the wake of Fallout 76, it’s great to see Bethesda make a game that launched in good shape. Here’s hoping the PC version holds up, too.
OMG I didnt know its a 30FPS game 😮
In a few weeks from now:
Gamers: “Hey Bethesda! I found this game-breaking bug in this specific area and the performance comes down to the lower 10s around the region!”
Bethesda (Todd): “No worries man, _it isn’t about how the game is released; it’s about what it will become in the future_ We’ve got sixteen times the patches than any other game in history could ever offer you, trust me.”
Modding community: *FIXED THE ISSUE ALREADY*
PS5 is superior
Can’t wait to get myself into the starfield universe, looks visually as expected. They’ve definitely cleaned it up since the delay.
Now I would maybe get an xbox tor this game. However it’s locked to 30. So automatically I’m out yet again.
And after watching this review I kind of have no desire in playing it at all. Looks dull, and soulsless.
I swear, if people start hyping up every trivial bug in this game after actually being reasonable with BG3, I’ll be pissed 😂
BG3 is my favorite game in years, and will likely still be my GOTY over Starfield, but my goodness are there a ton of bugs later in the game.
why is bethesda’s texture work always so plasticy, it’s very offputting.
0:35 Now that’s some alliteration
Wtf…just started watching and opening lines are how Bethesda has always delivered quality products?? Since when? Bugs still exist in multiple titles and gameplay is bland in with empty’ish worlds. Mods are required to save games. LOL
HERE WE GO!
Man why go xbox first, we all want to see pc performance and optimised settings there ffs
Could have looked and played even better if they were not forced to create a series s version. And remember devs also was the weaker console as their base version.
Bethesda….. day 1 good? Brace yourselves people. Buy as much toilet paper you can get, the end of the world is near
Watched a couple other reviews and they each mentioned typical Bethesda goofy bug and issues 🤔
Why bother making a 60fps video if the game runs at 30fps? 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Solid first look review Oliver 👍🏾
30 fps on xbox is better than 0 fps on ps5
Looks good
No reason to pick up a PS5 when brand new games can be played on a Series S for half the price
Looks like a miracle does happen. Hopefully Starfield will “start” a decent head to head with Sony IPs. I miss the ol’ good days of Xbox 360 exclusive games.
Maybe cause i’m a lowly console player, but if that was gameplay in 30fps I couldn’t tell, the game still looks amazing on Xbox Series X|S
Thanks Oliver, great breakdown.
Great vid
Do PC
Here is a great example of an optimized game on the much hated Series S!
So go find a 200 dollar PC that displays the rendering of this little console, good luck. Congratulations to the Bethesda team who did a serious job!
Надеюсь урон и полоску сверху можно нафиг выключить
god I hope my nearly retro by this point 1070ti and ryzen 5 3600x can play this thing at 60fps 1080p medium
This guys voice puts me to 😴😴😴😴😴
Glad to hear good stuff about the game.
30fps is fine. 60 would be better but I’d prefer the fidelity of physics.
Reminds me of Fallout in Space.
Meanwhile UE5 games giving us similar visuals with shit performance. Ok so there’s less pop in. So what?
Edit: Guess I was wrong. This runs like trash too.
60fps is easily achievable on Xbox Series X with these graphics as they’re nothing special or particularly next gen and it’s sad Bethesda intentionally locked the game to 30fps on a major first party game on the flagship console in 2023 and anyone defending the lack of performance mode optimization is part of the problem because you’re reinforcing lackluster development on Consoles….
The Game is using Real Time Ray Tracing Global Illumination Lighting on Xbox Series Consoles so that’s a bit of a defense for the lower frame rate but they still should’ve optimized for 60fps at least on the XSX but maybe the game’s gonna be surprisingly good despite the frame rate and since it’s free to play on game pass there’s no harm in giving it a chance so that’s what I’ll do but if it wasn’t free there’s no chance in hell I’d pay to play any 30fps game in 2023 as it’s not happening and it’s a sad look for these Consoles when they’re capable of so much more in the hands of competent devs which put forth maximum effort
Sooo no armor core 6 test? 🤔
It feels like a massive breath of fresh air that we’re not dealing with the usual AAA rendering deal of tiny source resolution stretched via FSR.
Armored core vi?!?!?!
I wonder if the series X could have reached 60 fps, but Microsoft has hamstrung themselves with their commitment to “parity” between the two consoles.
“Solid performance”
Next gen 30fps
No raytracing
Drops to 0 fps
Drops to 25 fps
Jokers, hope the cheque cleared.
30 fps is unacceptable in any “XSX-optimised” game, I don’t care what game it is, there should at least be 60 fps option.
Game looks from 2018 and runs like shit, yey
It looks really boring and generic! Fallout 4 in space!
Thank God for the ps5 scalpers I wasn’t able to get one.
thanks for the fast input oliver! i thought df will be df and release a review after a week lol
This highly rated review honestly caught me off guard. Xbox. Bethesda. Well done ✔️
The presentation with FSR does not look good. Definitely getting that DLSS mod on PC. Feel bad for console players.
30fps in 2023 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I don’t see why the Xbox one couldn’t just run the game at 12 fps
series s looks good. that’s nice
Cyberpunk visual are way better and no loading screen so it is a real open world…this one isnt and sucks
Its like this Game come from 2010.
Finally, a company that has learned that first impressions are important in the gaming industry. Jedi Survivor, Battlefield 2042, Last of Us PC, GT7 – some games that come to mind that, despite being “good” now, will never reach the playerbase they could have had they just delayed as needed and launched in a good state.
1:57… the shimmering on the floor. THAT is NOT good processing what so ever… this is such a easy fix… Digital Foundry is a pure ad campaign channel and nothing more than far from honest… LOOK AT YOUR OWN footage and point out these bugs/ hold them responsible.
12:50 the way this NPC climbs the stairs sold it to me, well done !
The Artistic direction is so grey, I get depressed everytime I see a screenshot of the game
Don’t want to see any spoilers so I would kindly ask if someone could quickly tell me how the game run on the series s. Thanks in advanced
Lol FSR2 ghosting even on people walking slowly. This looks mad to me. I’m gonna be honest I think I prefer FSR1 to FSR2 when going from 1440p to 4K.
It looks like if Star Citizen were actually a reasonably normal game
30 FPS cap, so it’s another worthless Xbox release. Will be great on PC however.
It’s unacceptable when the performance mode and fidelity modes of a game like Rachet, Spiderman, or HFW on PS5 has more differences that take advantage of better hardware than this Starfield comparison on Series S & X – 2 consoles with staggering performance differences that aren’t being fully flexed in the biggest Xbox release in ages
I just saw an honest review of Starfield and this game is another Redfall , Ai is as dumb as a door nail.
Is it just me or the game doesn’t look all that impressive while running at 30fps?
This game is beautiful and I wish Sony would make games like this for ps5 cause I feel like we don’t have much exclusives 🙁
Crazy how a game optimized for Series Runs
X box players get this day one and sony is getting more expensive ps plus tiers and no day 1 release of games. Id say this makes this even more impressive
Looks amazing, unfortunate that they haven’t worked on the loadsceens. Removing those would help you to be even more immersed in their impressive open-world.
Unfair to blame Bethesda with Skyrim when PS3 shitty Ram was to blame. X360 runs way better.
With all em loading screens, this game aint no open world. Terrible
Love DF and the work you do. I do find it funny that y’all remain the only voice in my life asking for more motion blur. Myself, my friends, and every other media figure whose opinions I’ve heard think it’s the worst setting on the graphics menu. Developers clearly agree with you though. I must not be used to low frame rate gaming where perhaps it’s less objectionable, or it may be that I am not appreciating something else about it. Thanks for the technical breakdown either way.
Lmfao so im getting the viber series X takes the biggest L while the S takes the win. I feel so stupid buying a console that promised me the future of gaming…..regardless im happy for the pc players who soend a pile of money and time building there rigs. Xbox needs to sell off the series x i think
Only Bethesda gets praise for 30 fps in a fps with dips into the twenties ^^
Any word on if keyboard and mouse is compatible with the Xbox Series version of the game?
Looks slow and boring
Game doesn’t look terrible but not anything special. I wish they could have been working on ES6 instead. We’ll all be elderly by the time that comes out now.
Mainly a PS5 user, but heavily considering getting a series S for this. Seems like a mostly powerful return to form for Bethesda. Can’t wait to dive in
All my friends were very skeptical of this release, including me. So hearing the game is polished and well made is GREAT news. Now the only concern for me is the writing. Considering Fallout 4 was the last real game they made, this is one aspect they really need to improve on in Starfield.
Can’t wait for the upcoming awkward NPC interaction memes.
Gamebryo necromancy on full display here. Image quality is just terrible, the frequent need for load screens, and an engine so inefficient you can’t even get >30FPS on the Skyrim engine after adding some extra geometry and lite post-processing.
Mods might save this game but it just looks like it’s going to be exhausting to play.
“People” who were complaining about Armored Core will be like “yo this looks great”
great exactly what I was expecting and thanks for not littering this with spoilers. Can’t wait for tonight
Plans 4k120fps
Reality FSR30fps
Yeah.
2:18 😂
30 fps on an 500+ bucks console is really really poor and sad.
Why do all npc,s walk like t800,s ?
Thank you DF!
I really hope there are more interesting looking planets. I know it doesnt look like No Man’s Sky, but come on.
Can’t wait to see how this looks on pc
Shout out to the little S holding its own.
Can’t say anything about the game itself, but it does look a bit outdated tbh.
Regardless Bethesda isn’t know for groundbreaking visuals, so can’t wait to try this one out.
Is using AMD FSR 2 so when they upgrade to FSR 3 it will look and run better, and can try Fps 60 ! This is a win for Xbox.
30fps & motion blur – eww!
fk lies seems like DF got well paied to lie to us.
i seen kind of funny gamer play the games and they started seeing bugs and fps dips right after 10-15 min gameplay when the 1st fight started and first space fight and even when walking alone guns were hanging half in and out of the walls and many locations
Aw hell, are you seriously fucking with me? If I wanted 30fps I’d stick to my PS4, hell atleast my Switch can hit 60fps in a lot of games or at least keep smooth frame pacing (Bayo 3 has it’s issues but I’ve never blamed frame rate for my faults). Welcome to “next-gen” where the most anticipated new exclusive from Microsoft hits a scenic 30*fps!
Does the Xbox version support keyboard and mouse?
I can’t understand how Series X which is way more powerful than Series S and can’t hit the 60 fps
“Top of mind”, lol I love it hahahaha
Great work Oliver, nice to see the game is in good shape at launch!
Microsoft nerfed the hell outta those visuals. Looks like sh/t.
The game looks dull, has muted colors, and almost all textures have the same reflection properties as plastic…
Payed 90 euros for a second hand series s without a controller. I have it at work. I am impressed by its performance ever since. Have a series X at home as well. Love the combination.
7 review from IGN/GameSpot , this can’t be good………..
Series X could’ve ran 60fps… Series S holding it back for sure. System parity blah blah blah… Microsoft has to get over this ridiculous idea
i cant believe we seeing graphics like fallout 4 again in 2023 lol
I actually have a decent gaming pc now so I’m curious how this will run on it. My rtx 3070 is my pcs biggest weakness by far so I wonder if it would be better than series X
Xbox X can’t hold 30 fps on 1440p upscale to 4k game 😂😂😂. Game looks like trash to be honest. Give this to insomniac and it will be 60 fps locked
No 60 fps mode ?
30fps on an FPS game is DOA, nothing else to consider.
Does it feel choppy? I have it preordered for series X and I’m terrified of it feeling bad because of the 30fps lock
Explore the universe through interfaces xD
Spiderman 2 has entered the chat.
It looks like a big jump from outer worlds and fallout 4 in terms of visuals so that good enough
Next gen is xbox360 speeds?
That’s good to go, fueling my spaceship..
When does the PC analysis come? 😛 Who cares about the consoles hahah 😀
Can’t wait for a mod called Starfield 2024 texture pack so the game can actually look like actual gen
Seriously though, offer a 1080p 60fps option for X. 30 FPS in 2023 is ridiculous.
A surprise to be sure but a welcomed one
Series S is such a beast for the $300 price.
Wish they could just creep the FPS just to 40 just takes away the stuttery feeling that 30fps gives
great performance and 30 fps lock ? it not match
Does anybody know how well Starfield performs on PC? I have an RTX 3050 8GB VRAM, 16GB RAM, Intel-I5 10400F
Wow the Series S performed really well which was a concern .
This looks great. Finally, Xbox got their killer app, at least for me.
🍿 😂
Finally. Now we can wait for elder scrolls 6 :’)
unsubscribed
rendered at 1440p on Series X, whaaaaaat???? is not 4K :S
Gonna wait till Microsoft (hopefully) decides to do a mid-gen console, because I don’t want to play at 30fps especially with frame drops. At least it’s not buggy, or doesn’t seem to be. I’ll give them that.
I’m sorry but the graphics look bad. I know that the game is massive but what i want to say is, It has to do something with the lighting, flat lighting. Great review tho
Ready for PC performance.
They will probably turn on the 60fps setting when FSR3 comes out
That pay check paid off.
Very disappointed at DF here and remember people 30fps is the new smooth according to DF 💀
So I just watched the ign review, and it showed the usual bethesda bugs, pausing, stutter and dropped frames, clipping, quest givers facing the wrong way etc…
How long did you play through the game? And are you just lucky you didn’t find any? I don’t know who to believe anymore…end result from ign was a 7 out of 10, which didn’t really come as much of a surprise 👍
Starfield sucks, performance drops to 27 fps in that big city /s
Is it just me or does this kind of look like crap?
Nice to see Bethesda take the time to work out the bugs before launch! I’d much rather wait longer for a polished game, so the delays were worth it IMHO. Taking a page out of Nintendo’s book should prove well for Bethesda’s reputation and hopefully influence other developers do to the same!
And we can all take a big sigh of relief 🫣
You need a thick glasses if think the graphics looks great. It looks like the original Xbox game. lol
Cant wait to get home and play
These consoles’ CPU’s have 8C/16T and this last gen looking game only runs at 30 fps?
Something ain’t right…
What happened to new atlanta? In the preview that city is gorgeous, in this video the graphics of that city seems downgraded.
This is one of the most horrendous looking games I’ve ever seen
No obvious bugs? Every other review says there are loads of them.
But does it blend?
No RTX, so it looks like good idea to wait a bit. That one city in pastel colours looked shit
Yet another boring aaass title. Totk goty 2023.
Here’s hoping someone does a mod to unlock the 30FPS cap, like what happened with Skyrim and F04 on consoles.
Crazy how game design has felt like it’s stagnated, and yet games are still somehow having problems with CPU utilization.
While 30 fps on the X will always be a miss, the game looks great, can’t wait to play it on the PC
PS3 can run that lol
Amazing but I just don’t get why they won’t have an unlocked FPS framerate on the X! I bet it is like 55fps and they had to cap it at 30fps because they could not attain 60 stable. Unlock the framerate, most TVs have some type of VRR now.
You know, while I love Bethesda games and will probably play the hell out of Starfield, I have a major gripe with game’s interiors being compartmentalized since Fallout 4 release. Look, Witcher 3 came out with seamless interiors in 2015, I know Beth games are quite more complex on the side of interior detail but holy cow. It’s been 8 years, guys. Can we finally NOT see a loading screen between exterior and interior spaces?
I swear, modders have shown me that so much is possible in terms of optimization and improvement of the game that at this point I just appoint some things to laziness. If I see loading screens between exteriors and interiors in TESVI, I’ll absolutely lose my mind…
The graphics are making me dislike it😢
Starfild😂😂
Looks like a meh game.. to play once and done.. maybe the modders put more life in those worlds
I hope it’s even better optimized on PC so we can reach that 60 fps sweet spot comfortably
So far I’m a bit disappointed with the reviews. The consensus seems to be “yeah its cool, but its still a Bethesda game and still has the old Bethesda jank”. I’m glad I haven’t bought it yet, I’ll wait for the PC version to come out and see how its reviewed.
We are waiting for a 60 fps patch. It DESPERATELY needs it
Loading screens in this day and age?
30fps is unacceptable nowadays
I’m looking forward to seeing how badly Starfield will run on an average PC
>30fps
Hard pass.
Man, a first person shooting type of game at 30 fps. I may give it a shot on Gamepass but I think I’d much rather play this one on PC. I hope the solid tech performance of the consoles translates to a high quality PC version.
really happy how well it turned out on the series s
What about FSR 3? Could that be used to bump the consoles to 60fps? I’m also assuming that version three will have better AI upscaling as well to smooth out some of the jaggies.
30 FPS XD
Im sure it’ll be broken buggy Bethesda trash on release
Ign says different. So i guess it depends on the gamer and what they like or tolerate.
No Bugs, sure…how much did Bethesda pay?
I never understood why motion blur has always been on by default. I hate it, I know no one who does
Skyrim 6 looks weird.
Hopefully there will be a PC review as well.
Quit excusing the 30fps
Great to see the well performance on Xbox , when I will eventually uppgrade my Gpu I will switch between Pc and series S on my Sony projector 100″ screen.
I’m not interested in the game itself, but its always great to hear a hugely anticipated game actually perform well on day one, especially in this day and age.
I’m wondering how this will play out when FSR3 comes out.
I will forever hate AMD for bunching this for people with older nvidia hardware. I have a 2060 and without DLSS, I have to make sacrifices to get a 30 fps, a framerate I achieve on highest settings with DLSS all the time (unless it has RT)
Tomorrow is going to be a great day 👍
“We everyone play we all win” – Phil Spencer
*Proceeds to scrap the PS5 version*
Series S is the absolute best value in gaming
the damage numbers start out at 4 instead of 6789 with an smg? 😍😍😍
COMPREHESIVE AND SENSIBLE DAMAGE NUMBERS THAT THE PLAYER CAN REASONABLY DIGEST? 🤤🤤🤤
Damn, Armored Core really got skipped over
the 30 FPS cap was inevitable and so many more games will come to XBOX and Playstation with a 30 FPS cap because of the CPU performance. given what was stated in this review I hope people who buy it really enjoy it and get their money’s worth of content.
Hype? Whos hyped? It should be common knowledge by now that these AAA companies overpromise and under deliver. By now you should all know to wait until they’ve delivered 110% of the product. Dnt give them one damn cent
Anyone who thinks 30 fps is playable in 2023 should go get their head checked, absolutely awful
Todd Howard mentioned that they kept it at 30fps because of the different planets. I’d be fine with the game switching to 60fps on many smaller planets and reverting to 30fps on busy planets in some kind of hybrid (performance/quality) mode. Essentially, I’d rather have some 60fps gameplay than none and planets kind of lend themselves to this type of controlled change.
I do wonder if FSR3 and Fluid motion can also be used to bring this up to 60 fps on many of the planets. If it’s Microsoft’s biggest title, it deserves a performance refresh just like Insomniac did with Spiderman and Ratchet and Clank.
I am reading that my 3080 is gonna have problems…well…thats a boomer….hope gpu driver update gonna help a little
I dunno. FPS aside, I just don’t like the visuals as much. Too much post processing.
So wait… you’re not talking about the animation/shadows/techniques/blandness and the usual nip picks?. I think this game is still a good game even if you treated it like you treat most other games. It’s obvious and it looks very bad on your part that you’re trying to gain favors by not being your normal self when it comes to these types of videos from you.
I just hope my RX 6600 performance similar to Series S in 1080p.
Gotta love that stuttery 30fps “next-gen” experience. Classic Bethesda, years behind.
Somehow a developer got a game running great on Series S.
Crazy, it’s not possible, it’s just magic.
Congratulations the game did well on reviews. Even though I do not own an Xbox it’s good for them to have a game that people are enjoying. No hate over here.
And xbox fanboys told me this game would destroy anything playstation and nintendo have ever released 😂😂
I have a xbox ss and im happy it runs good on it.
bro we need the pc… PC always forgotten
Looks last-gen at best with the same stiff Oblivion-like facial animation but hey… it’s Bethesda after all, good on them the game is not riddled with bugs and glitches at least. Edit: nevermind, it’s a actually pretty glitchy. xD
While some will suffer with this horrendous fps I will play spiderman remastered on ps5 in performance rt lol Its just sad that most devs dont go above and beyond like insomniac.
the series s versions looks surprisingly solid
I was already excited, but seeing that the console version is polished!? Man that’s such a relief. I can’t wait to push the graphics sliders up all the way on my PC!
I don’t understand how people can go back to that 30FPS stop motion crap. It makes my eyes feel cross eyed and I get nauseous. 60 should be minimum these days. 120 is ideal. Most of the time Bethesda pan the screen at a slow 30FPS rate because they know if they’re spinning around fast people will see it lol. But every once in awhile the person playing pans too fast and it looks like good old 30FPS stop motion.
Also the FSR dancing shadows, particularly on vegetation problem looks horrible.
Absolute triumph for the series S. Congratulations to the Bethesda team for delivering a polished game on launch. Anyone still crapping on the S really needs to see what devs can do with the (often) 200 dollar console. Good luck building a PC that can match its Starfield experience for cheap.
Got the premium edition preloaded on steam. Can’t wait to play this tonight!
De best
everything is foggy or smoky. Plus soap scaling. I hope the pc version can be customized
30fps sucks
Always happy to see a fellow motion blur enjoyer at DF! 🫡
Im sure game is amazing but 30 fps is huge turn off for me, i wish they sacrifed graphics and get 60 fps. Try paying warzone 3 120 hz and jump back to this game
Nobody seems to be calling out Bethesda for using ancient tech with no modern console features. Character models look 360ish, textures can be laughable along side stiff animations and cringe voice acting.
I understand tho. You couldn’t thrash the game as you all just recently met Phil and Todd.
If 30fps is ok for the most powerful console in the world then… Have fun lol
I wish pc performance would be first : < xbox we all know 30fps and done.
My guess is, some type of 60fps mod will become available in the coming weeks.
Art direction is amazing. I love “NASApunk”.
Even the owner of MS couldn’t have done better to advertise this game than you.
+fsr 3.5 +30fps=60
30fps …. this is pathetic and not even locked … pc powa crushing this xbox
How many FPS would I have if I’d like to play in cloud via GamePass ?
Bethesda’s technology is easily a decade behind modern tech. Visuals comparable to PS4 games and at sub-30 fps… mind blowing honestly.
S is a little monster
Bro series s being able to handle starfield, it might be small but still pack a punch
This game looks like ps3
2023 and 30fps is still the norm on consoles…
U must be the only one that haven’t had a problem with bugs cause everyone else I’ve watched and they even showed the bugs in their videos
So excited to play this!
0:38 thats one way of saying all their games release in broken states but i guess they wanna stay friends with todd after talking with him
That’s some serious impressive work by Bethesda, *especially* on Series S. Also credit to the Xbox Advanced Technology Group who assisted with optimization. Looking forward to playing tomorrow morning, who needs sleep anyway?
Xbox eXcesS 🔥 💚
This is it people! Here we goooo!
WOW. a bethesday rpg that is bug free day one? i never thought i would see the day
Waiting for the real test that matters. PC
Starfield would have been really cool in 2015.
I’m torn because I’m happy when a dev sticks with their in-house engine but also… Creation sucks. It’s easy to mod and I’m sure easy to develop. But it runs like dx9 garbage in a volumetric lighting package.
The game doesn’t look bad. It looks just as good as Fallout 4. I’m really just disappointed that the gameplay looks that way too.
<3
Wow Bethesda really must have you bent over a barrel with that apologetic and vastly forgiving review. I’ve heard DF twice now use the excuse that the scale of the world somehow is a good reason for it being 30fps?!?!? As a seasoned Game Engine and Game developer myself that is utter BS. Game devs have quadtrees, octrees, BSP, culling for that which would make a game with a 1000 objects offscreen perform the same as one trillion objects offscreen, as the are all culled out. The scale makes NO difference to fps when they are not on-screen. 30fps for this level of on-screen fidelity in 2023 and complexity is simply just not good enough by a large margin and DF should be pointing this out rather than covering their asses.
Fantastic job as always with the technical-breakdowns, thanks Oliver! The stable performance on the Series S/X bodes well for mid-range PCs 🙂
Hopefully it gets FSR3 on consoles
Make me laugh all the sony pony’s with their shitty comments….at least the game has no super bugs at launch like many new playstation thrash games that’s has come out the last months !!
Lookin like an xb1 game 😐
30 fps 🤮
It might just be me but I wouldn’t consider it a Bethesda game if there weren’t any bugs lol. Gives it a unique charm.
Something is going on with shadows that make the terrain and certain indoor environments look extremely flat. Shadows in general need improving to my eye. Hope its a bug to be fixed!
I cant wait to see how this runs on a high-end PC, thats exaxtly where ill play it if its good!
“by no means a bad looking game”… shows a scene with trees that look like they belong in 2005.
they bought bethesda for this…?
Bethesda decide that “detail” is more important than performance. I decide that i’m tired of looking at 30fps console games in 2023. So it’s gonna be a pass for me.
I do remember FO4 being unstable at launch and that game has been the most polished Bethesda title until now, I expected the same level of polish but wow, so, starfield is actually polished? That was unexpected.
Will wait for the PC VR mod.
Yeah, the engine is this same jurassic engine as always. It’s easy to see. Still, even with this old engine, we received some of the best games I ever played. I will jump into starfield after I finish Baldurs Gate.
The only problem I have is 30fps for first person shooter is not good
Kudos to Bethesda, for delaying the game to make sure it ran smooth on launch. To many companies follow the launch now, fix later tactic; that ruins the first experience of a game.
Yea nobody noticing it runs 30 FPS constantly on empty planets lmao
The difference in fidelity between X/S is perhaps the biggest I’ve seen on any game so far.
I’ve never been more disinterested in such a hyped game before. where’s the plot trailer and what’s the story about?
Im jjsy holing my rx6600 will give me decent settings ive just upgraded from a rx580 8gb because its all i could afford but it should be good woth my ryzen 5600
Bought an X just for this so cant wait.
Wahoo
The new mass effect we should of got.
Most beautiful soft utter damnation of a game review I’ve ever had the pleasure watching
Are you able to do anything else to manage your underbite lisp? It has a pretty sharp effect on the audio.
Missed one thing: how do you rate NPC animations? You liked?
No, thanks. I’m not playing a 30 FPS game. I love XBox, by the way.
I would love to understand why on consoles they’re not using 16x AF given how insanely cheap it is on PC for the past 15 years
Who else is happy to see a hyped game actually deliver performance wise. I can’t really remember when was the last time
I would like to see that IGN Xbox fanboy rn, he was praising 30fps with 4K, and there we go 1440p upscaling🤣🤣🤣🤣 n 30fps 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Too much 7 fps, IGN 7.0 😅
Anyone in this comment thread who doesn’t understand why this game doesn’t look as good as Horizon Forbidden West should educate themselves a little bit about how video games are developed and what taxes hardware and stop talking.
It is upscalled from 1440p to 4k. So will the game look sharper if it is run on a 1440p monitor rather on a 4k tv ?
Looks very bad on series X to be running 30 fps
Thanks for saving me some money on buying an X over an S
That was a great Video. Perfect lenght also.
Thanks for that. Looking Forward to playing it 🙂
any game at 30fps can be super polished so i dont understand the praising about a 30fps game being polished… ps4 had 30fps games that looked better than this and polished so whats the big fuzz about? u cant get an award for polishing a 30fps game on modern machines such praise can only be reserved for 60fps games
Everyone: Calling them Bugthesda.
Bethesda: and I took that personally.
This looks good for Bethesda game but it still looks bad review is hilarious 😂😂😂😂…
Glad I didn’t waste my money on a X 😂
Hoping this looks better in HDR because the color here looks so gray and low contrast.
That was way to quick for digi foundry!
“4k” i could see it coming from a mile away
Overhyped Xbox trash
Great review, good to see it’s working well on both S/X.
Good to hear that it won’t be super buggy at launch like many of their other games.
PLease speak louder dude jesus christ
preorder canceled
Where is 40 fps mode for 120fps panels at least? It’s a shooter afterall.
1440p 30fps is redicolus
The first release this generation that makes me want an xbox. Well done Bethesda.
So basically the same issues we had back on last gen frame freezes to load in areas and shit but looks amazing and mostly locked can’t complain
Thanks for the great breakdown, glad the visuals are solid enough on day 1. I’ll probably be jumping between PC and Xbox SX personally. Looking forward to the early access dropping in a few hours
my monitor for some reason handles low fps bad, its a 144hz monitor but when i play at 30 fps on it, it looks significantly worst than if i was on my old 60hz monitor. this game is literally looks like a strobe light flickering on my monitor its weird. hurts my eyes. i figured a higher end monitor could handle 30fps better than a 60hz but nope not for me at least, that normal?
Looks great
I don’t like the 30fps effect. Can I turn that off?
I still can’t get over the 30 fps cap
Looks like a Bethesda game, and I don’t think that’s a bad thing at all. It’s exactly how I imagined a “Fallout in space” game would look and feel like. I don’t think there’s anything groundbreaking about the visuals, though the environments definitely seem much more refined and complex than previous Bethesda games. Starfield definitely makes me want to buy an Xbox now more than ever. It would be a shame to miss out on games like this.
Mediocre graohics from a technical perspective. It’s all about the art direction here.
People should keep in mind that it is impossible to deliver insane graphics in an open world game. It is unpredictable with too many variables. That is the reason why linear story driven games usually look better and get better metacritic scores.
It is a shame that the only company that cares about linear games is Sony.
But how are the graphics on the PS5?🤔
If anyone plays both this and has also played No Man’s Sky, I’d love to know how they differ?? What you like in one and not the other etc.
I can’t WAIT to play Starfield: Loading Screen Simulator !!!!!
Series S owners rejoice! Mostly locked 1440p at 30fps.
Not gonna lie, the game looks fun but the last time I saw a 30fps first person shooter was destiny 1 on ps4 and it was a headache fest
Yes! This is what I was looking for before I decide to buy early access early tomorrow morning. . . I need to know if it runs well on the Series S.
Game looks extremely boring and deprecated from what i see
I dont know if this is xboxes “biggest game ” in a long time but for some reason i just dont like it. Hopefully for those who do like they have a good time
Those major console issues from the past were all on PS for a reason, poor system design and Sony’s refusal to help out devs when it comes to optimization
7/10 on IGN and Gamespot, didn’t see that coming.
仕事はええ…
I am genuinely nervous, that it runs on series S so well. That PC is going to be a butchered port.
was waiting on this review to see if the s was going to be playable or not and just ordered the series s based on this review ty
30 FPS!, omg this game sucks.
Glad series S look good
Don’t expect another Xbox for a while -Phil Spencer
Then they acquire Starfield.. Make it make sense.
Those loadings game looks so mid
I think they can and hopefully will patch in a 40fps mode.
“prospective players perturbed by the potential for bugs..” this is my favorite line
I dont understand why series x users couldnt have a 900-1080p mode to acheive 60fps
Literally the most polished BGS game in history. Bethesda is really in good hands☺️
I think ima just buy BG3 instead of this. Im not feeling the vibe. I could be comepletely wrong too but i don’t think so. Ill keep watching game play
For once I feel like a game delay was used well
It’s a shame it’s 30 fps on the x but thanks to Samsung Qn90b with game motion it feels more like 45 fps at the cost of input latency but in single player it don’t matter
Can you stop give your comments on the game and just stick to the technical stuff? Why in “analysis and conclusion” episode there’s almost nothing about the performance in a video titled “Performance & Graphics Breakdown”?
Has a 9/10 Metacritic and comes “free” with Gamepass, putting it in the hands of millions… yet some people are more interested in discourse and moaning.
What a time to be alive.
Series S internal res of 900p with significant stutter in large areas lol.
Decent looking, worlds, vegetation and monsters look like X360 era tho…
Well, got the code from buying an GPU and have Game Pass Ultimate also…
But 30 fps is a BIG no-no, so it’s now pre-downloading to my PC…
And now to watch the video(s) 😉
Can’t wait to install CBBE mods… I mean… Can’t wait to play the game like a normal person. (smiles awkwardly)
It’s been a great year for gaming and i’m glad to see it continue with Starfield
It just looks kinda bland to me.. gameplay as well as graphics.
Hope this game doesn’t have the longer you play the worse it runs issues.
Im not crazy about the graphics for this game. Specifically the characters faces, theyre so soft. Its impressive tho, that series S runs this game well. It shows that you can get more than youd think out of it when the resources and incentives are there!
Also think 3rd person wouldve been better for this game than 1st.
Im not sure this game is for me. I just want a great world and an great story with great combat. Bethsada just dont do that. I want to try the game but idk
thanks for this! how it performs on the series s was what I wanted to hear and it seems its good news ^^
30fps not good for me
Bethesda has shown the Series S is a more than capable current generation machine. Any developer complaining just looks like a whiner looking for excuses for their lack of talent.
Glad the game wasnt broken. More publishers should consider this. Their short term profit brain wont allow them.
Given that the future of the Xbox Series X/S is riding heavily on Starfield, they absolutely had to get it right from day 1. And looks like the mad lads at Bethesda actually did it. I know, I’m just as shocked as you. Glad to know Series S runs it as well as it does. Can’t wait to see how the PC version shaped up.
At this point with the current state of game releases. I just hope it won’t set my console on fire and burn down my house.
900p en Series S una maquina vendida como NextGen a 1440p, menudo timo por parte de Microsoft.
Un juego que no salga minimo a 1080p no debería ser lanzado.
They’ve actually done a great job on this one considering the sheer scale of it.
Does Starfield uses Direct Storage or will there be a patch in the future for it? Seems it would be useful because of the constant loading screens.
Haora digan que series s lastra la generacion
Be nice to get a 1080p mode
It’s great that starfield launches in a “good” state but i’m still not seeing why i should be playing it, both fallout and the elderscrolls have an interesting world but what does starfield have, generic space travel roleplay?
I’m really glad to see top devs utilising FSR2, did wonders for No Man’s Sky on Nintendo Switch. It might not be perfect, but for console gaming it does a world of good.
I do wonder if they’ll consider implementing FSR 3 down the line, both PC and Consoles versions. Thankyou for this Oliver!
CPU bound performance is bit of a bummer. Although understandable, I wish they looked at optimization tricks to make it run better
I’m guessing Starfield means there won’t be an Armoured Core 6 video?
Before watching I’m gonna say SX is meh
Series S?!!
Impressed with the Series S here, Seems like the way to do a proper X/s conversion.
Got my Xbox series x ready early access ready ready here in UK
Some of the comments below are just so weird…
gameplay looks very mid… this game is def a 7/10
I never believed it would be an fully open planet game, but not having that expectation means I can anticipate and hopefully enjoy what the game actually is: a sci-fi rpg.
MAN. The game’s textures look so muddy ! Especially on the S! I’ll be completely honest, it doesn’t look as good as you would think after 20 years of development. Some parts look really detailed and beautiful, like the ships and the interiors, but the planets look…. I mean did you see that foliage? I love Bethesda don’t get me wrong, I guess they just make games that are really detailed graphically in some spots, and in others….not so much…..😂
holy sh*shit they did it
why tf are they praising stable 30fps in 2023
As always sieries s is a god damn potato
When it all comes down to it, the game looks and runs stable as it should be.
But again, whether you like it or not, performance is key if you’re expectations on a series X.
For Microsoft and Bethesda, this was an “all hands on deck” video game they’ve risked themselves from avoiding other projects for. As a gaming veteran (20+) years into this, to me, it’s a disappointment primarily because today’s animation requires too much processing power from the GPU+CPU respectively. For what its worth, its exactly like I expected from them; an underwhelming product from yesterday. We’ll see in the final release when DF tackles this once more later this year. Good luck, Xbox.
the series s reallyis a stab in the side for devs
It looks atrocious hahaha
The most anticipated DF video of the year
Loved the video DF, Starfield looks great. Although it did appear like shadowed areas/interiors were “glowing” and not correctly covered in darkness.
Can’t wait for the follow up videos.
0:34 Love the writing here, that alliteration just hits the spot.
The visuals are… leaving a lot to be desired…
“it looks blurry, even on X”
…
“it looks sharp”
…
Bro, which one is it ?
Too many caveats here.
Glad it has a motion blur toggle. That’s the best bit of info from this video imo
Fsr3 better bump it to 60 🥹
Meh. Reaks old gen 😢 but at least it’s in the Game Pass
Looks freaking epic on both consoles. Also, modders will help decrease some of the repetitive stuff on various planets with time.
Hearing the consoles are running pretty stable is great news to hear….My PC is ready!
I dunno. This is the first time I havent been too exited about a Bethesda release. I hope its solid… and I wish the digital delux wasnt so pricey!
This is how you do a good port for the series s
Todd saved gaming. *AGAIN.*
30 fps never looked so good. 😂😂😂
Steam Deck performance? Runable?
Idk. I am just not feeling the graphics style of this game. It looks kinda old and dusty. Lol
I will probably still check it out but it definitely doesn’t have me excited to play.
Todd Howard: “30 times the fps”.
Is the pc release same as console?
are my eyes going bad or the graphics are really not looking that great. for eg. that trees in the city just looks like 2d images stacked together. without any ambient shadows. and the foliage doesn’t look that different than Skyrim.
The fact that they didnt add DLSS in the PC version is honestly such a scumbag move. Sucks.
Just get a pc stop wasting your money on shit plastic box’s
Absolutely amazing. Seems like the core game is solid so that means modders can focus on modding and not fixing.
The S is no slouch when given the proper internal teams that know the machine up and down. Soon hopefully parity will no longer be a question. Just on how to optimize close to equally, excluding resolution but keeping the 60fps as a standard. Hopefully one day Starfield can achieve that later down the line. Congrats to Bethesda on making the closest thing to a perfect RPG experience. They have come a long way.
sounds kinda payed….
How impressive… they got a game that doesn’t look that good to run at 30 fps on the “worlds most powerful console”
It’s embarrassing for this to be “new gen” but can’t run 4k or 60fps.
Hope there is a PC mod to just delete all procedurally generated planets.
Glad Series S bros get a good experience as well.
What do you mean graphics are fine, it looks like PS3?
A 40/120 version will be great
I can’t stand 30fps 😢
30FPS?! RIP console gamers
War. War never changes
Well shit. That’s promising. I’m on PC so hopefully things are equally optimistic when DF’s PC analysis comes out
Have fun with the 30 FPS Next Gen Power
0:34 That amiable afront of alliteration almost had me at arms. But you pulled it off.
I’ll be honest… if this doesn’t have any of the classic “Bethesda bugs” that will actually be disappointing to me. Skyrim was great, but it was a great laugh when my horse randomly rode up a vertical wall.
After what happened with Cyberpunk on my PS4, this Series S owner could almost cry…
Although I love these videos my main thing will always be story. I’ve only recently got into games like Fallout and Skyrim and the fact that I can play a game that looks as dated as New Vegas solely because of story tells me what kinda gamer I am lol
I remember getting stuck at terminals in Fallout 4 because the engine was buggy and didn’t like you messing with framerate
Modern tv’s can’t do 30fps imagine playing it on a oled,
ITS STUTTER FREE ??????????????
Forget the game, this is what I wanted to preorder.
Looks good. May try it some day when I get a series X
After seeing this @30fps on FSR2, a 60fps mode will be coming when FSR hits. Series S though looks great for 4tflop and low memory complaints of devs.
Did anyone ask Bethesda about Starfield VR??
PS3-X360 Graphics! 😂
Disappointing.
those trees look absolutely terrible.
PC Master Race Test ??????🫠🫠🫠🫠🫠
Doesnt look good for a current gen game, bethesda and their lame graphics engine..
DF: wish I had a toggle to really crank up this motion blur.
Literally everyone else on the planet: Give me the ability to turn motion blur off. Why does this garbage even exist.
6:38 How is there no mention of all this FSR ghosting on almost every shot of moving models
I`ll stick to no mans sky! looks better and plays way better! 🤫
This review is going to really piss off some haters. All they really had is “30 frames per second makes me throw up and Bethesda games are a buggy mess lulz”
Other then the western city holding 30 is great
Does it use direct storage?
Looks decent enough as long as I keep one eye closed.
Waiting for pc analyze
I see why they want you to have an SSD on PC due to the sheer amount of constant loading.
The character models look last gen sadly.
What makes me giggle is how people want 4K but then complain when it’s 4k-30 because the system can’t handle more. I feel like this is a bit of a step back in the ways is pushing forward with 60+ fps. Going back to 30 for whatever reason is pretty depressing. I would rather have 1080p 60+ than 4k 30 any way.
This might be the first game in the last 10 years I don’t wait at least several months after launch before buying. I was tired being a beta tester.
“Bug free experience” man I guess you got lucky. I just watched a review that showed numerous bugs with some game breaking like NPCs clipping out of map and never reappearing making it impossible to finish quests.
30fps sucks lagging with latency. I was excited for this game till I saw the framrate. The development team may not care that its 30 but I won’t be picking it up for that reason alone. Very last last gen. 1440 at 60 I would pick it up. Can’t go back to 30.
30fps? LOL
Not a fan of those loading segments wtf man
Being fair Final Fantasy 16 wasn’t native 4K on PS5
Please don’t play music over your dialogue, Oliver! Accessibility is vital
no PC??
Thank you for the in-depth look. Can’t wait to play it later today. We were all looking forward to hearing this, and it delivers.
Lol the 7/10 scores says it all. Another mediocre offering from Bethesda. I knew this wouldn’t live up to the hype.
the flickering at the start shows me again, how bad FSR is. We need DLSS so much
This is about to be mid.😂
Congratulations for your amazing review. You guys are truly professional unlike those clowns at IGN.
Biting my nails for the next 7 hours
the character models look surprisingly good.
NEXT …STARFIELD…… XBOX SERIES X VS PS5.
I’m more at easy to game Starfield on my series X after watching this video. Thank you for the review.
I haven’t watched anything about Starfield until now. Thanks Oliver this is my next game after Armoured Core.
Xbox Series S is a little hero! Take note other developers!
Great video. And really good optimization as well on such a huge game. 👏
Got 4090 hope on pc will be good don’t care if fsr or dlss just give us good upscaling for 120fps for lg tv’s
I’ll never understand 60 fps stans. Its holding games back. I dont want a game to look like a ps3 game just to hit 60 fps. I hate framerate toggles in the options even worse. Just optimize the game for the experience you want me to have.
Ugh not a fan of the plastic look of their overused engine
F
Still a joke for all console players – limited to 30fps. Terrible by Bethesda, at least give us the OPTION to choose ourselves. I, including maaany others would prefer a bit lower graphics to get the smooth experience of 60fps. Cant believe Bethesda did us console players dirty like that. 30 fps…… Happy to see the PC players get what they wanted and expected
Lol solid performance!!!! You literally showed the game drop down to 0 FPS, you guys are losing credibility BS Analysis on FF16 and Bayonetta 3 as well.
Great job Oliver! I almost feel like this game was built more initially for the Series S than for the X, and then just upped the res and some extra objects in world for the X. Usually there is a bigger difference between the two consoles when I have seen comparisons for other games. I Feel like the X is capable of more with this game. Cant wait to try it! (Except I Absolutely Despise 30fps now and it can make me nauseous, so thank goodness for GamePass. I would never buy a 30fps game this gen.)
FOTY fail of the year
I recently went back to rdr2 and while that game does look great the 30fps is nauseating…getting my barf bag ready for this game
Good to see a game launched without any major issues ✅
Only problem is, I’m motorcycling in a remote area where there’s limited power and internet, so I won’t get to play it for a while 😭
Could it be? They did it? A day one bug free game from Bethesda? Never though I’d live to see this day!
That ghosting is noticeable
The series s really held back the full potential of Starfield
This is wonderful news! Well done Todd et al…
Great review Oliver, I love these videos and cant wait to play Starfield. Keep up the awesome work you guys.
30fps is an instant no for me these days.
Crazy what you can do when you actually take time to optimize your game. CHECKMATE other developers.
3:04 That ghosting is atrocious
30fps is not a great option
It seems a lot of people didn’t expect this to be 30 fps only lol. Ig these people didn’t keep up with the latest news.
Proof the series S isn’t holding the console back? Very minimal compromises to get a similar gameplay experience. Software and optimization is key.
No clue why Microsoft won’t allow reviews to come out makes no sense
Here we go. A bunch of Playstation fanboys gonna review the biggest exclusive for Xbox so far. This should be interesting.
If they both look this similar I can easily say that they’ve targeted Series S more than X. Because when you look series X vs S comparisons, most of the time X puts “2x more performance 3x more resolutions” kind of gigantic leaps and differences. But here other than cube-map res and overall internal res it is just the same game with same performance. I wish Microsoft never did Series S man, it is a bottleneck in whole ecosystem. I dare say, it affects whole generation because of Microsoft “parity” issues and pressure on developers.
“Super polished” 30 fps with drops and fsr… ok DF.
Idk why but I get a feeling that it has the same visual fidelity and detailing as the witcher 3s art style, is it just me? Also I wonder if starfield will get an update for that upcoming FSR version, hope it does well cause yeah that flickering does look pretty bad once you see it. Wonder how DLSS mods will look on PC though 🤔
this game will benefit from fsr3 support. 30fps sucks
Giving a game praise because it is relatively bug free and looks near identical on a less powerful machine is stupid. Now we know why its on gamepass, there is nothing new here , be honest at least.
You have an early review copy, there’s still a day one patch coming with even more fixes and optimizations probably.
Welp, the reviews overall are very high!
A bethesda game launching with not too many bugs is not something I imagined I would live to see.
Well it looks like I won’t be bothering to turn my Xbox on until forza now as this game isn’t doing anything for me
30 fps🤦♂️
The combat looks super lame and panning around with 30 fps is noticeable even in the video. I just can’t do 30fps on a First Person game in 2023. Not after playing 120fps games and solid 60fps games like Elden Ring. What a colossal disappointment! Would have rather had a 60 Fps Elder Scrolls 6 for sure.
Looks amazing. FPS RPG on PC is my favorite genre. Hope Alex will tell us it is a good port so I dont have to wait longer. But jeez you can see the FSR up-scaling. This unstable grain on everything moving… Such inferior tech.
A locked 30 fps… Has Bethesda learned nothing?
I was literally holding my breath throughout the video. Bethesda has finally shipped a shippable game! I think I’m gonna cry… 😢
Really nice looking interiors in this game.
Looks like a win for the S (not over x but generally speaking). Nice
At 1:29 with the shooting… is that a smart weapon or a horrible implementation of auto aim?
New Atlantis looks pretty bad NGL. But other places look really good.
why on earth it’s 30 fps????
wow very good news. now lets see when i will get the download code from amd.
PlayStation is lacking on First Party Games while Microsoft has a line up of games coming in the coming months
The game looks, good. If I was an Xbox owner I would be happy. I will get into this game once a 60FPS patch drops.
Too bad its only 30 fps, but I don’t see much judder what I typically see on 30 fps. How come there is so much difference between games with 30 fps. I don’t mind the framerate but I can’t stand the judder
Preloaded on series X and PC(16 GB, RTX 3070 and Ryzen 7 3700x), hopefully ill get to experiance it above 30 @ 1440p.
Personally, I think it looks bad on Xbox. I already pre-loaded the game on PC, so I hope it looks way better
You thought i was feeling u?
Cant wait for 6th September!
I simply cannot play an FPS at 30fps. So I’ll wait to play it another day
I really wonder if we’re on the same page when you say motion blur at 30 fps looks good. No it looks like hot trash. Doesn’t matter how much “per pixel object” you throw at it. Choppy mess without, and blurry mess with.
I only care about the PC results. I cant deal with 30fps.
I can’t believe we’re finally HERE!!! Starfield is upon us!
Looking forward to playing it on PC especially because of the massive improvements that the modding community will deliver.
30fps in 2023 should be illegal.
🤮🤮🤮
As a Playstation guy, I’m happy for my Xbox bros finally getting a W. Sony on the other hand instead of promoting Spiderman 2 better, they instead increase prices for ps plus… man
Not often I hear Eve Online mentioned. Triggered some nostalgia from when I played that game between launch and around 2009. Good that the game doesn’t have the same issues earlier Bethesda games have. Looking forward to see this ported to the next consoles in the future where we will get 60fps like what happened to the older Bethesda games.
Im play on xbox one lol
No Man’s Sky on PSVR2 beats anything that Starfield can offer.
Why does he keep saying “30fps update” and not frame rate?
I hope when they realize how much money they are losing from being on Gamepass this game is brought to PS5.
I’m going to happily play this on my ROG ally.
This just proves devs don’t want to work on the S. You can totally get similar performances if you actually work on it.
It’s 2:30 in the am. I arise because a cup of tea may help me sleep. This video lands. FU DF.
This review was done in version 1.6?
A couple of days ago version 1.7 was released,
are there any noticeable differences?
Don’t know if its the capture-card, but everything stutters. To me that does not look like stable 30fps.
How did the frame-rate hold up in a spaceship fight? You can have explosive rounds, grenades and laser beams, how did the game handle that in an intense shootout?
but its still 6/10
Bring on the modding.
Holy cow, I can’t believe how much worse it looks on S. I just got an S to play coop games with my brother, but I’m going to test my luck on PC with this instead.
Wow, a competent game that runs well on the Series X and even on the S… and it’s from Bethesda. Call me impressed on this one.
Thank you DF for being honest and not accepting bribery from shitbox to glorify this trash piece of shit game. Running at sub 30FPS with 360 like graphics on “ThE wOrLd’s MoSt PowErFuL CoNsOlE”
So the so-called most powerful console in the world cannot surpass 30fps in 2023? Have to admit I do get tired of the excuse being the ‘complexity of the world’ when nobody asked for Bethesda to remake No Mans Sky with better graphics. Personally I think games have gotten way too long and there are far too many of them that all have this longevity. I will make an exception for games with good stories however like Cyberpunk 2077, The FF series and others where you are actually interested in what is going on in the main plot line but does anyone think Starfield will reach this level of immersion?
We’ll see but every single time a Todd Howard Special comes out it also comes with way over the top hype and straight up lies. Maybe he’s learned his lesson? Again we’ll see but given the fact he didn’t even acknowledge his lies prior to the launch of F76 it’s unlikely Triple A publishers ever really learn lessons. Prediction: Hyped up a Star Trek type universe and get Star Trek Picard lol.
Considering the 30 fps and how powerful this generation’s consoles are, it doesn’t seem that impressive. I don’t think 1 million AI-generated planets will change my mind, but maybe it’s impressive in other areas, we’ll see.
Starflop got a 7 ok IGN. I trust IGN
Did not expect to see this rn. Im down lol
For all the playstation gamers that bought a series s just to play this game you are a true gamer and we solute you
when are you guys gonna cover armored core?
consoles would be so far ahead if they didn’t settle for basically budget amd apus.
When is the pc performance video coming out?
So, it looks like Call of Duty Infinity Warfare but runs 10x worse 😀 Amazing
The fact he said PC cpu heavy …. Tells me everything I need to know. They didnt fixed their cpu threading issue uh?
Where the fuck is AC6 lol
Nice breakdown, Oliver. Very happy to see that not much was compromised on Series S.
its hilarious how Redfall gets completely eviscerated for having flickering textures, lights, shadows, etc but all the sudden Starfield is showing “an attractive version of the game on Xbox” lmao. What is even happening here?
Everything looks so static and plastic-y. A lot of the foliage doesn’t even move. Is there no wind on these planets, not even a slight breeze? And those stilted, awkward NPC animations look laughably bad.
This is clearly iterative, essentially another FallderScrolls but with a sci-fi reskin. That isn’t necessarily bad, but when you’re iterating on the clunky janky prior works Bethesda’s released…I can’t say I’m thrilled to play this. Thank goodness for Gamepass because I don’t think this is worth $70.
They need to switch to UE5 this game looks awful, clouds from the PS2 era
Thank you. I’m glad to see the Xbox Series S version runs well. I don’t mind the visual downgrades like shorter draw distances.
Armored core ?
30 fps for these graphics? Doesnt even look much better than anything else.
Its rare to hear compliments fpr xbox title from df 😂
Hey Xbox can make 900p look good let’s go!!
Not gonna play this on Xbox until it’s at least 40fps so it runs on a VRR display. 30fps games look terrible on an OLED.
And again the S is holding back the X. Very disappointed.
Here’s anticipating a horrible PC port. lmfao 😂
This makes my day! But what’s the deal with all the ghosting? At 3:03 both versions have pretty severe trails following the npc’s legs. I was hoping for a peek at FSR 3 but that’s def not it
WOW
No offense to Oliver but I always get sleepy during his videos 😅
Where is the PS5 comparison 😜
Pc when?
Thanks Oliver! This time they give you a nice time with the game.
for me on S looks terrible
Selling my deadbeat ps5 to get this masterpiece
We up in here, y’all!
Muddy, stuttery and shimmery. Ugh!
Already pre-loaded the game on steam… Looking forward to seeing the PC breakdown. Really exited to play this game on PC!
I seen that picture of digital foundry and Phil Spencer and Todd Howard. Of course y’all gonna be favorable to Xbox 😂
how yall saying series s is good its at 15 fps 😂
Do you think 60 FPS might be doable on Series X with (hopefully) future mods? If dropped down to 1080p maybe?
I would appreciate if Oliver and others at df pushed back once in a while against biases that are formed before games are even available. Oliver spends too much time referencing peoples fears of bugs when theres no basis for it.
30 fps and loading screens? Doesn’t sound next gen to me.
Eh, not really enough to really catch my attention to play. Feels like a No Mans Sky clone. I’ll pass
No ray tracing?
I’m still gonna wain until i can pirate it to decide if I like it or not then decide if i want to buy it
A polished Bethesda game at launch ? Unbelievable
Glad to have an Series S right now.
Great to know. I’m excited
Bruh I feel like my 4070ti isn’t even gonna hit 60fps 💀💀
You lost me at 30fps.
Am I the only who thinks the graphics look very “last gen”? The charachter models look PS3 level, strange.
Awesome to see Oliver do one of the most high-profile breakdowns of this year! the games seem exactly what I expected it to be can’t wait to play it next week.
the LOADING screens are a big let down…. 😞
The game is looking nicely
It kind of looks like Prey 2017
I am so itchy for the pc breakdown. You guys are the pinnacle of this stuff.
depois da mala de dinheiro que receberam do Tio Phil não tinham como falar mal hehe
30fps in 2023 is honestly such a step back for a big game like this. I literally don’t care why it can’t do 60fps nothing can justify it to me for any sort of next gen game.
Why can we not get 60fps at launch for a single game anymore I hate 30fps I hope they give us a performance mode for series x at least
what about ps5 version???
3:03 their is some very obv and distracting ghosting on the NPC that is walking past
You can’t look diferences between the s and x. Ridiculus. It should be huge….
Well….guess I will download it.
Proper HDR support?
Can mobile 1650 run it 😅
Pity it’s not coming to PS, would have liked to play it but not buying an Xbox for 1 game. Glad to see that Bethesda have done a good job!
Xbox for the Win!!!!
No PC analysis?
It’s awesome to see a good series s version. PS5 players may be getting that system to play the game and it looks like they will have a good experience
Bethesda did a great job with the less powerful system. Thanks for your hard work.
Why do devs keep using procedurally generated content? It is always boring and nobody wants it. I’d rather have a smaller game with handcrafted enviroments.
Bethesda better add DLSS support!
Whats crazy these DF members are the same that bash other 30 fps AAA but are praising this for being 30 fps is super suspect 😂
Series S ❤
I don’t actually think that this looks great, it’s ok but not great.
Those character models though… eishh.
Hopefully it doesn’t impact the overall package too much.
it really looks kind of jank graphically. like when Ranni asks the Tarnished if they will ever tire of obeisance to the two fingers, i wonder when gamers will tire of being held back by consoles. The covid hardware shortages and scalpings should have been everyones wake up call, it certainly was mine.
idk how far oliver is sitting from his tv but 900p doesnt look anywhere near close to ”good” on a 4K tv. you gotta be at least 8 meters away from the tv if you cant see the difference between 900p and 1440. that was such a ”there is no difference between 1080 an 4K” comment. also the lightning looks broken on vegetation and im wondering why this hasnt been mentioned ? like what is this 2:17 ?
It’s happening! The first review come in and DF is one of the first! Excellent! See you later in the sky people!
the game looks exactly like cb punk, good grapichs, but an empty world in terms of NPC
Damn loading screens, no ray-tracing and you get 30 fps with dips. That’s insane. Compared to Cyberpunk where you get either 30fps with ray tracing or 60fps without it in a world where there are NO loading screens
DF are Microsoft shills
(Torches and Pitchforks in hand) We want PC Performance and graphics results 🙂
Is it just me or the graphics look kinda mid even on the X?
Wait, what? Didn’t know there embargo lifted already
26fps oh no 🙈 this game only gets a pass cause its a bethesda game but let this be from a new dev and it wouldnt sell much
Ok, now I just have to wait a year or two for good mods to actually play it the best it can be.
1. Insane pop-in/badly handled asset lod (is it 2014?)
2. Everything is gated behind loading screens, even entering or exiting your ship
3. No screen space reflections, still relying on cube maps (is it 2014?)
4. No screen space shadows
5. No ray traced anything
6. Low quality hair meshes and textures
7. Low quality character meshes and animations
8. Foliage that doesn’t react when walked through
9. No underwater swimming (only surface)
10. No NPC reaction to you dragging dead bodies infront of them
11. Space being almost entirely fast-travel
12. No splash animation in water lmao
I am so glad to hear the positive review. I am so excited to pick this game up. See ya in the stars.
No way playing a game like this with 30fps in 2023. Hello PC version.
Very impressive that it appears that bar resolution drop, the S performs nearly identically to the X!
Launch in T – 07h 36m 59s 🚀
I really wished that there would be at least a 40fps mode for 120Hz TVs and Montors…
What i wanna know is how it runs on ps5 😀 On a serious note idk where the hype is coming from the game seems boring and unimaginitive
That should put those dumb claims about Series S holding the Series X back to rest!
30 fps in 2023 is just embarrassing. If i buy this, zero shot its for Xbox. Gotta go PC 1000%
Pray for me. I’m buying this and Baldurs gate 3 on the same day
Series S is a huge mistake
Grass from PS3 epoch 😢
This game looks so bad…
Did everyone forget how awesome gears 5 was on the series s.
Well, does 30 FPS feel like 60 fps? Well , that ‘s what Toda ‘s son told us 🙂
Seeing some other games come out this year using FSR to upscale, Its great to see Starfield upscaling from a reasonable base. 1440p->4k looks way more stable than sub-1080p->4k.
I’m glad to hear that Bethesda has their shit together when it comes to the technical side of Starfield. I was worried we were going to get another Redfall, but I’m glad to see that it’s not the case.
Dude, 30fps for a first-person shooter is so rough. I understand why they did it, but it is a bummer.
Even in Crysis 1 faces looks more realistic, here it’s just dolls ((( cannot see any next gen here 😔
IT SHOULD ALWAYS HOLD 30FPS WITHOUT STUTTER! ALWAYS..EVERYWHERE! LOL
“60fps is king”
“The game is 30fps or lower”
“Is it a Switch game or a Bethesda game?”
“Yes”
“Then it’s fine”
Gamerz in a nutshell
I’m tired of devs lying about the resolution, todd said it would be 4k 30 on series x. It would be better if they were actually honest and said it would use upscaling instead of saying 4k and then have it running on 1440p.
Great news for series s owners 😍
I am disappointed, if on a weaker console, a comparable picture is obtained, then this means that in general the graphics themselves are very unimpressive. And I’m still silent about 30 FPS in 2023
Oh yes the performance review
I would rather play a smaller map with more to do like RDR2. The planets look so boring
Judging by some of the reviews. Its a well polished space rock.
Nice cut at 10:14
Great video!
Oh boy! What will those people who have been “warning” people 24/7 about this game having CP2077 level bugs do now that it works (at least on consoles) properly?
fan boys in comment section 😮 You guys are coping hard. This game looks like mid last gen game and its 30 fps on new consoles. Compare this game to something like horizon forbidden west on ps5 and that game was 60 fps looking like a dream. Bethesda needs new tech.
Loading screens in 2023 💀
Good to know the Series S version turned out well. I hope this makes everyone on both Series consoles excited.
just read the transcript, great review as usual, love watching your reviews, knowing the best settings to play a game on to enhance the game play an immersion. it really helps
No mention of character faces? 🤔
Well the fact the game launch looks good. Hopefully bug fixes and performance fixes maybe with FSR 3.0? Should get better over time.
I’m gonna shit and piss and cry every hour until alex releases the PC tech review! 😭
No 60fps option? 🙁
I’m sorry, but everytime I watch new gameplay this looks like No man’s sky but boring and even less attractive. I guess is not a game for everyone.
Hope tomorrow that I can get to play it my experience would be different.
Here before this video hits 10+ mil 😀
Can’t wait to melt my Steam Deck.
Is embargo over?
Ps5 version looks better
Is there any chance to see a 60 fps update on series x?
We are in 2023 and games still don’t have a natural and fluid lip sync. Come on.
The game looks fantastic and i cant wait to play it.
Great video, thanks Ollie 😇
“Prospective players perturbed by the potential…” bravo, sir!
30 fps is disappointing, especially at 900p/1440p resolutions. It may be relatively stable but it’s still choppy and blurry compared to 60 fps titles, especially in combat. Slow camera pans may look good but it’s not how average gameplay is carried out. It’s worth playing on a powerful PC.
I actually hope we do get a few classic Bethesda glitches.
when he said there is no buggs it’s in the video you see shadow and mesh pop ups , guys how much did you got paid by microsoft to lie like this ???
Surprising that it’s well-optimised on both Series S and X, a major achievement nowadays for a AAA game of this size.
The main takeaway here, delay games more often and release them when they’re ready to be released.
Another solid win for XBOX💚 R.I.P. PS5💩
Soap even on xbox x, and even at 30 fps…
So you didn’t test it in 3rd person at all strange
Always loved the way this looked, just worried about the “blur” that seems to be infecting every game these days. Every AA option just leads to a blurry image.
So… from a technical standpoint, Microsoft and Bethesda did a damn-good job here! With Bethesda’s track record, I am *genuinely IMPRESSED* with what they did with the Xbox Series S as well!
All there is left for me to look forward to now os the implementation of FSR 3 at some point in the future. I don’t expect that to happen for at least a year or so, honestly. But I do look forward to the changes and improvements that will be introduced with an FSR 3 update.
There seems to be some issues with lighting, especially on vegetation (3:25) and on the buildings in the backgrond in New Atlantis (9:40). They look like they’re glowing
30 fps is unplayable must play it on PC
Now supposedly next gen games are getting complemented for holding up 30 frames per second 🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
Great news for Xbox Series X|S owners then… but how does it fare on PC as that is the version I have pre-loaded and ready to play in my Steam library?
Excellent and thorough video by the way. I watched this before I read any reviews!!!
”Xbox Series X/ Xbox Series S”
If only there was a way to shorten the title…
Running in 900p in 24fps with low textures.
Shame😢😢😢
So uh. I am not excited for this game, amd i havent met a single person who is.
Waiting for the PS5 breakdown… oh wait looool
30 FPS is unacceptable
1440p30 fps on series X, now wait for the sheep who claim the game should run at 60 fps on their 3060 Ti with similar visuals
Fantastic Performance and Graphics Breakdown Oliver! Keep up the great work DF!
“Prospective players perturbed by the potential for”…. bugs?! it was right there, Oliver! “problems” the answer you were looking for was “problems”… /end Steve Harvey.
Or you could have gone with “problematic perplexities in the programming”.
Starfield looks surprisingly good overall on both consoles. I can’t wait to see the PC analysis. Even though I purchased a Series S as a “GamePass Box” for playing on TV, a release of this magnitude deserves the best system I am capable of playing it on.
Cant wait to play this on my 17900k, RTX 6090, 400 Gb of RAM. PC all the way!!!!
Please tell me you have a PC video on the way?
I’m so happy we are seeing 30 fps on consoles again. That leaves more headroom for games to begin innovating world simulation and physics details now that they aren’t pushing insane framerates on console
Picked up the series x just for the game and it’s sitting beside my PS5.
I have about 8 hours until I can play!!
I’m a PC guy, but holy smokes the Xbox Series S is pushing above its weight with such a big game. Good job on Bethesda for the optimization, hoping it translates to PC too.
Need to rename channel Microsoft apologists. Lol 900p sub 30 frames. Buy this on pc.
I’ll try it for an hour or two and then drop it. Haven’t been into Bethesda games after Fallout 3.
Players who have ire from 30 fps shouldn’t be playing the game…we’ve known this far too long for anyone to still be whining about this…or go play on PC. 😂, a more curated experience?!? Really…I’m a Bethesda game…c’mon man.
30fps on a console in 2023. thats all you need to know. this game is garbage.
So a somewhat stable start. I’m really happy
Ps fanboys “digital foundry was paid off by microsoft”
i still think this game can run at 60fps. I still don’t get why devs haven’t allowed consoles to be able to change graphics settings like pc. and no its not as simple as (well go buy one). i think with some graphical tweaking with fsr 3.0 coming out here soon they should implement their version of Nvidias frame gen and say it is compatible with consoles. but as long as that fps stays at 30fps locked 99% of the time and frame times are low should be relatively smooth
here we go. This is the start of a long run for starfield
Very relieved to hear the game is stable, that was definitely my biggest question I wanted answered and as usual DF delivered. Only thing I’m perhaps slightly disappointed with, is that it sounds like the game loads quite a lot similar to Fallout 4. It is what it is though, I’ll definitely be playing the game next week
This is gonna be good!
Glad I’ll be playing it on pc with a 7900 XT
It’s so weird to see you guys speaking good about a game that runs at 30fps with stutters and slowdowns and loading screens
Did I miss the resolution count too?
This dude talks like he’s reading off a script Bethesda sent him. I don’t buy what he’s selling. Will wait for a real comparison video cause DF is for sale obviously
No I am not getting it I do hope it succeeds. The gaming industry is dying we need more offline story-driven single-player games. Games that drive Innovation imagination cultivation of skill anticipation and excitement none of that is found in online multiplayer or games as a disservice garbage. With digital also killing ownership keep buying discs.. I feel people that bought a series X should get a much higher quality. Having the S and X the same almost is insulting
Motion blur is the worst.
Here we go boys, into the Starfield.
Can’t wait for the PC review.
Basically looks on par with Fallout 4 yet it runs at 30fps on current gen. I don’t think that’s especially impressive.
Heck, IMO Fallout 4 got better art direction and player models, while this maybe got somewhat more details.
Will play No man’s sky on PSVR2 until we get Skyrim PC VR
They need to add dlss 3.5 to this game
Damn… the gun play and graphics look a lot worse than I expected. Shoulda known is was gonna be a fallout 4 graphic equivalent.
As a mainly PS5 player due to number of friends there I’m glad I can experience this game in good quality on series S. Can’t wait 😭😭
I should’ve kept my expectations low, disappointed
The fact the series S is running at 900p internally, makes me feel like the steam deck won’t be upto the task. Can’t wait to find out
the fuck are bethesda standards call it as it is
Смотрю Юра, всё таки не всё проебали❤
No PS5 breakdown?
My body is ready
Wow that “Papal Dispensation” goes a long way.
Very nice video!
PC when?
LETS GOOOOOOOOO HYPE TRAIN CHOO CHOOO!!!!
Welcome to next gen 2:45 . 30fps and the power of 2 TERRAFLOPS is on display. Remember Phil Spencer promised us next gen was about 60fps and above. He can’t use the excuse of supporting last gen consoles anymore!! Also cube maps for reflections instead of ray tracing and it still only mostly hits 30fps?!?!
Let’s see if the crying from a certain group of people is justified
Oliver the pro!
Damn I’m early
Tikes 30 fps why buy a console ill stay on PC best way to play
Finally a game that doesn’t run in 720p
This looks better than the developer’s earlier efforts, but this isn’t impressive for a current gen game at all. The fact that this includes FSR2 and still can’t hit 60 is nothing to do with the consoles, and everything to do with the developer.
I’m so glad this isn’t a flop. I’m so glad it runs good. I’m so glad for so much, this was like a dream game for me. I’m so ready for playing it.
PS5 user. I got a Series S for this game and I was praying for the console to run it decently. Great news!!
Loading…
I’m a PS guy. Always have been. I bought an S just to play Starfield. Happy to hear that it runs as well on S as it does on X.
Where’s the ps5 benchmark?
I’m wondering what Neanderthals hop into DF videos and automatically unlike their content. They’re legit experts providing great coverage – how does that offend people haha
A Bethesda game with no bugs? Sign me up
wow this has got to be least uncanny looking automated character animation during conversations ive ever seen. and it is from a bethesda game no less. the robotic and weird dialogue scenes from other games in the past have always been a huge turn-off for me.
where is PC ? Console are for n00b
This game had to release with hardly any bugs. This shouldn’t be praised as they literally delayed it for over a year to make sure it wasn’t buggy
Lets gooooooo!!!!
fascinating!
A Bethesda game functional at launch?! Dare I even say…polished?!
Damn. These consoles can’t even run their own exclusives 😅😂😂
PS4 and xbox one started out as the FXAA generation but turned quickly into the TAA generation. PS5 and xbox séries X started out as TAA consoles and now they are FSR 2 consoles
Gorgeous
I fear slow loading on the PC.
IGN gave it 7/10 lol
PS5?
… first one for consoles, who cares about consoles, PC got superior version, starting from framerate 🙂
Looks a bit washed out. Shadows look kind of muted.
series s looks like absolute dog poop
I’m nervous really
I was worried about the seires S but it sounds good
Delivered as promised.
Thank you, Bethesda!
we’ve been waiting on Armored Ciore 6 not this Shithesda mess!
I’m so hyped for this video. Oh, and the game too I suppose.
I’ve never heard of this game. Is this a new indie title??
Get your jars ready to collect DreamastGuys tears.
When your more hyped for the DF video than the game. 😂
Some terribly dull environments. Just brown and grey
Can’t wait to play this on pc I can’t do 30 fps anymore
DF clearly in Microsoft’s pocket, it’s no wonder they received a review copy when others didn’t.
Load screens… this worries me
graphics aside, really worried about ammo scrounging. Shooters have nailed it — enemies drop ammo, you automatically pick it up. Every gameplay vid I’ve seen of this game, the player is completely running out of the ammo on their gun immediately OR they’ve clearly used a console command to gain an absurd amount of ammo. Just look at the gunplay in the clips shown here. 0:38 and 1:20 immediately run out of ammo – loot a body and find 30 bullets you have to manually pick up. What fantasy does that fulfill?
Bethesda develops on the PC, and so did CDPR….
Fantastic. What a relief. But it’s unclear to me why a 40/120hz mode isn’t offered? Surely it must be more than achievable while retaining high image quality.
Enjoy your game Xbox owners, screw the reviews they are personal opinions just like your own. I will play on pc down the line.
Bugs Bugs galore..
I cant wait to get it on sale in a month or less
Waiting for the steam deck review!
Just got my RTX4070, can’t wait to play
What a terrible shooting in the game
30 fps lock lol
Probably going to play it with 3rd person mode, 1st person at 30FPS just sounds nasty.
Do i get a 4070ti for this ? Or stick to xbox 😊
PS3 Grafik Wau!
I was really hoping to see PC performance.
DAMN IGN GAVE IT A 7
Looks like is ready for launch Great performance
Who gives a crap about xbox, do the PC tests
Something Something Pc Something Something 60 fps
Starfield is not exciting me in the slightest. And I love sci-fi, space battles, RPG, first-person shooters. So this would be a prime candidate for me to be enthusiastic, but it just isn’t.
Can’t wait to see the analysis for PC!
GOATED (GREATEST OF ALL TIME) GAME
TRUE GAMERS WILL PLAY IT
LETS GOOOOOOOOOO
GOTY
OMG OMG OMG 😍😍😍😍
Can’t wait to play the game in 4k on my 4090. Just few more hours 😍
Let’s get it
This is gonna blow up my twitter feed, doesn’t matter how the game launches.
Bethesda better release a 60FPS patch.
Our savior Todd Howard has delivered.

Wow beautiful. Series X ready
Looking forward to the PC report.
Wanted to play this but if I can’t play it at 240 fps why bother
Right on the dot with this video.
Esse jogo é espetacular, merece vender muito.
Console performance… we already know it’s trash 30fps, I was expecting the PC breakdown!
