This AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D review tests the new AMD X3D CPU from Zen 5 against the prior AMD R7 7800X3D CPU, the 5700X3D and 5800X3D from the AM4 era, and Intel’s Ultra 9 285K, Ultra 7 265K and Ultra 5 245K CPUs, plus the 14900K. We have dozens of CPUs benchmarked for this comparison of some of the best CPUs out in 2024, with a heavy focus on the 9800X3D vs. 7800X3D for gaming PC builds. The coverage also talks differences between the 7800X3D and 9800X3D, thermals, efficiency, and value. The 9800X3D’s release date is November 7, 2024, with an MSRP of $480, which puts it against the 7800X3D, 14900K, and 285K or 265K for immediate competition, with alternatives outside of gaming (such as mixed use PCs or workstation computers) such as the 7950X and 9950X.

The whole CPU gen’s first actual new gen worthy product.
It seems like intel needs to accept its position in the market, slash prices to assume a price/performance strategy that further acknowledges that they’ve lost trust, and fire every corner cutting ROI squeezing idiot of an MBA they have in favor of getting some engineers in charge to start working to get back in the game.
I wish you guys would start testing DCS. It’s only one of the most demanding games on every aspect of a PC. Yes, I know the number of people in the DCS community is relatively small. But most are also the computer geeks that most can only hope to be. As I said, DCS is so demanding balance is tremendously important.
why the fuck are the 0.1%s fucked in r6s
Hmm? Why is 7950X outperforming the 7950X3D in these gaming benchmarks? Is the 3D version a scam?
with this price.. I am just waiting for the 5090 to drop and time to upgrade
what motherboard and cooling should i choose for 9800x3d + RX 6900 XT. Is there any tool to not make a bad decision with part choose? And what about ram – did 5600 is sweet spot for this cpu?
What are your plans for the Ryzen 7 9800x3d or Ryzen 9 9950x3d. MSI had leaked 9950x3d, is it worth the wait? what’s your thoughts on if it is worth the wait? gaming in mind 🙂
Next gen Intel: Sooooo prepare for our new MEGA 9 ULTRA HYPER 1234K CPU. This time. We added 2 more E-Cores, so its 8P18E26T now. This brand new and innovative chip has 5% more multicore-performance than our last chip, because we love gaming.
holy shit AMD has done it. Soon to be the leader in market share for desktop CPUs
I was looking for something that is improvement to previous gens for games like Total War/Civilization and other similar games that benefind heavilly from CPU because of shorter turn times. Seeing the Stellaris being 5 points ahead of competetion is exciting stuff!! And if I will be pressed for money I can go with I5-14600k, but I would really rather get something that is current gen, not 2 years old already. (technically 1y, but 13600k is basically 14600k and tha one is 2y old)
Sadly Total War built in benchmark are not representetive for CPU since in normal game you can have 5000 – 10000 units on screen, and benchmark has like few hundred…
I’m enthusiastically awaiting the new mobile APU’s with 40cu’s and possibly 3D vcache. For small, efficient laptops, this will be a great advancement for x86. I’d love to have a laptop I can do real work with, not requiring a power brick to be plugged in and discrete GPU. It looks like AMD might finally make some headway in the laptop market, if they don’t get in their own way. I’ll never understand why they do that.
You need add some Unreal Engine 5 games to this test…. there is a lot of games coming out on this engine on it and it got issue with shader compilation that are heavy CPU dependent.
You are the best, the only channel using heavy cpu demanding games like total war series.
I’m curious how well it’d perform in eco (65W) mode. I plan to have this chip in a future ITX build. 🙂
_Steve_content__accuracy__actual creativity_ best humor in the face of defective influencers and box ads __ time lag__latency_ and sports hypes free__loving it.
Its just not woth the money over a 7800x3d ….
No 4k results?
So am i changing my 13700k for this as my primary PC occupations are 4k gaming and photoshop/MSOffice ?
I love that Stellaris was in here. Burn all the xenos!
So? All cpus amd efficient is another lvl of compare shit intel.
While the performance in gaming clearly favors the 9800X3d, general productivity seemingly still favors the 285k. If I don’t really care about having the fastest gaming PC, but simply want to focus on Davinci Resolve or music production, aren’t I still better off with the 285k, despite the blunders?
So I got the 9800x3d the input lag in fps games is noticeable larger than 7800x3d all the same bios settings ? Cannot get it to feel as good as 7800x3d. Might honestly go back can anyone explain this ?
of course the ryzen 5900x comparison I am looking for is not on here
“You did that on purpose, Steve.” NICE! 👍
We need an add-in clip for life’s happy little accidents. Make it happen!
they increased the price of 7800x3d from 420 bucks, to now 560 bucks, and the 9800x3d being 650€ here in sweden. absurd, while the 14600k can be bought for 250€ brand new.
Amazing review, great video, i thoroughly enyoyedi it, thank you Gamer’s Nexus, thank you Steve.
Does it make sense to upgrade from a Ryzen 5 7500F with a 4070?
Man, it was a wild ride. Ryzen 1000’s were already nice cpu’s, and they only improved upon them to the point they’re not the “cheaper but slightly worse alternative” to Intel, but a viable replacement even for enthusiasts. I wonder if Intel will resort to their early 00’s tricks.
Now if AMD can only make a comeback in the GPU department all will be well (I use an RX 6800 and for the price I got it for it’s an absolute bang for a buck, but I won’t say it’s the best in its msrp range)
Would be nice if you added at least one chart at 1440p so we can know if to upgrade or not…. 1080p is good for testing but not for real scenarios 😢
Did you do any testing at higher resolutions? I’m curious how much and where the gaming benefit falls off.
9800X3D is full of win but only the 5090 will unfold the true potential of this CPU.
userbenchmark has a positive feedback on 9800x3d. can it be real? 🤯
Will this be a worthy upgrade from 5600x?
Why don’t we have 1440 or 4k results?
I find the direction the tech is going interesting… But I am not interested in pushing online mutiplayer titles to absurd FPS.
In the end, I only care about having a CPU that will not limit my GPU at the graphics settings I will be using.
Even with a 4090, midrange CPUs can keep up most of the time. The occasional dip due to poor optimization in NPC heavy areas happens in some titles.
For me, I am most limited by my screen refresh rate. I am also happy with a steady 60fps, and my current setup only dips below that in the aforementioned NPC heavy areas, and usually only by a few FPS.
So my advice for most people is to heavily balance for GPU, as you can probably reduce your CPU budget more than you think, and still get full performance from the GPU.
The only people who might want to flip that around a bit are people who love to play strategy games or are very competitive online FPS or other twitch based multiplayer titles. As better CPU performance means more to those situations.
I have the 7950x3d and I kind of want this… but must resist… at least until there is a price drop…
RIP Intel
I like the idea of the variable price plots. I’ll often use your reviews to determine what is a “good value” but it’s sometimes hard to extrapolate the value to new prices from when the review was posted. This plot gives me more of a sense of how the value changes as competing prices change.
Thanks Steve!
Great thorough review. Gamers Nexus knocked it out of the park. 9000 kudos!
So Price-to-Performance:
5800x3d > 7800x3d > 9800x3d
?
🙂
Wow. Not a single game loses to Intel. Nice job, AMD. Image what performance this CPU can hit if being paired with the new IOD found in Epyc CPUs. 😳
9000series provides new chipset but still same socket. Intel, please, would you do that too?
Now I can wait few years and replace my 7700x for 9800x3d for cheap and still get few more years of good performance out of my rig. Now let’s hope we get a newer version of minisforum v3 (basically microsoft surface but with 165hz and 8840u chip for way less) with the new chips and I’m good on hardware for long time.
Definitely off topic, but as a long-time viewer of your channel, I’m having a hard time dealing with the emergence of your gray hair. 😂 mainly for the reason that it reminds me that I, too, am getting older
Trying to decide if I should upgrade from a 5800X (not 3D), looks like some good gains. that I’ve missed out on.
could it have davinci resolve test?
Red goez fasta
Is this type of cpu best for VR gaming with a connected cable to the PC?
Thanks Steve!
This reminds me of the AMD FX era but with Intel being the pinata
AMD, STOP MURDERING INTEL! It’s already dead!
Will NH-D15 work or should I go with AIO?
Intel went the wrong researchpath as it seems. Not that it was a gamble. Ignorant viewpoints and brutforce lead to desaster.
Power consumption, particularly at idle?
Bills to pay. I’m not made of electricity.
Well ASUS have reported they’ve hit a LN2 overclock of 6.0Ghz on the 9800X3D.
And Jay has now released a video about PBO automatic overclocking and shown there’s tons of head room still possible above 5.4Ghz he achieved with PBO.
So I guess a GamersNexus LN2 Livestream pushing this thing to the limits is on the horizon and you guys are just being rather hush hush about it. 😀
Even that I have the money, I would never buy a CPU for over 300,00 €. Nearly 500,00 bucks for an 8-core CPU is nuts.
Im europe 9800x3d at 600 euros
RIP intel
What motherboard was used for these tests? You’re listing GPU, cooler, paste and memory, but can’t find the motherboard here or on the website article.
Place the 285k into an MSI MEG Z890 GODLIKE with some B-Die and rebench.
Why there is no 1440p benchmark?
I shall help you with the football analogy.
AMD fumbled the ball 5 yards behind the line of scrimmage.
Intel picks up the fumble recovery. Uh oh, going the wrong way down the field with 12 seconds on the clock.
AMD with the miraculous tackle and fumble recovery, sprints, dives for the end zone pylon, TOUCHDOWNNNNNNNN AMD.
WHAT A GAME WINNING TOUCHDOWN FOR AMD!!!!
Alright, back you, Steve.
From Steve.
7800X3D is still better ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Me with 5600x: you don’t need the upgrade, you don’t need the upgrade.
Could you run all these tests using a R7 1700 please! So I can see how well my CPU is decimated?! LOL
As someone who plays games but is mostly doing productivity I was wondering would it be better for me to go for the 9800X3D or go for the (currently cheaper by £50) 9900X and loose the L3 but gain 4 cores?
growing up loving intel cpu’s
from my old i5 2500 i5 3570 i5 4590 i7-3770 i7 4770 i7-4790k
i7 7700k
from this one i started noticing that there is no big upgrade!!! from intel
once I upgraded to Ryzen 3600x bro this cpu made me fall in love with Ryzen!
and never think of going back to intel
first because of high price motherboards !!!
now with my Ryzen 7600 and m loving it
amd still best cpu choice!
All hail the mighty die, for it has spoken; 1.
I watched Steve eat an entire 9800X3D
6:59 the title says “20-Minute test” while the X axis has the max value of 200 seconds (similar at 7:10 with max value of 500 s). Does anybody know why? Thanks.
Why not test at much more realistic 4K High/Max settings? You are using the fastest hardware currently available…
and with the bew AGESA the bios updates will give more performance and better memory speeds
on amazon as of today i only saw some priced at 750 and up for the 9800x3d and the 7800x3d was 799.00
Your voice is headache inducing
I don’t understand what the hype is about, it’s MUCH more expensive than the 9700X (almost $300 AUD) and the 9700X in 105W TDP config closes the gap with it for the most part. I just don’t see it having any value whatsoever.
Please test Stellaris LATE GAME, not the start.
I dokt understand why 7950x3d is much lower than 7800x3d. Dorsnt it just use thr 8 cores in gaming and perform the same? It did in all other reviews so whys it doing so badly in this one?
the 9800x3d is going to be retail in canada for 660, if you do the currency conversion that will put it at 475 usd to us should be 480.
Intel keeps making bad moves for too long. The whole new socket for a new chip is really getting old. Watching AM5 chips stomp Intel 14th and 15th gen is kind of sad.
When are the 9900X3D and 9950X3D releasing?
so the secret is to put the cache in the basement
The scalpers got all the 9800xrd’s they’re all on ebay so fkn great
Yes, let’s finish off Intel! Earn your salary from AMD, Nexus! After all this, you will buy processors from the monopolist AMD for 2000 bucks! Good plan guys!
Intel rolled a 1 LMAO!
So how are the dice balanced with the inductors inside of them?
the 245k should be cheaper than a 9600x 265k cheaper than a 9700x and 285k probably about the same or cheaper than a 9900x then they would actually be competitive choices after windows fixes the scheduling issues
Came for the review, stayed for the autographed snowflake dice set 😉
9800x3d is $300 more expensive than a 9700x here 🙁
is it worth it to upgrade 14900k to 9800x3d at this point, or should we wait for intel responce?
think i could wait for the 11,800 x3d if i just got a 7800 x3d this spring?
Just for laughes you should have a Snowflake the cat hand roll the dice during advert content👍🏻
*A MOMENT OF SILENCE…*
*for all the homies that purchased Intel’s CPUs.*
36:33….
NO….. ALL THE BENT PINS!!!!!
Love the new experimental charts especially the price point comparison
Frankly speaking by 2026 if Intel survives then it will see the turnaround
and its gone….. freaking scalpers.
anyone know why there are no 2k 4k benchmarks? I am new to this. GPU bound right?
Cool but i miss the undervolting ….
Thank you for including the Ryzen 7 5800x3d in your tests. I won’t be trading this off for a WHILE so these help me gauge what I have.
Thanks, dude!
Yeah, Intel can hang it up this launch 🤣
Thank you for switching the stellaris results back to lower is better, makes much more sense!
Can you add what API is used for the each game on the chart next time? (DX11, DX12 or Vulkan)
Finally, I may be able to play a huge galaxy to endgame in stellaris… (I have been saying this since stellaris came out)
Why does Hardware Unboxed always have the same thumbnails and post at exactly the same time?
What happened to these 7950X3D gaming results? In your older benchmarks it was pretty close to the 7800X3D for a lot of games or even better. Could this be that it was installed without a fresh windows and some weird driver behavior like what was talked about in your original 7800X3D review? Maybe that topic needs another visit once other 9xxxX3D cpus are released.
Could you test Cities Skylines 2 simulation time with different CPUs please?
Mind blowing
Do you think People should wait 7 months for the AMD Ryzen AI MAX Pro 300 family with NPU for AI ? or do you think AI won’t be used in Games ?
Great video as always, but I’m conflicted more than ever now. Is it worth getting the 5950/5900x these days to prolong the life of the AM4 platform? I have the 3600x and mainly use my pc for animation/productivity with the occasional gaming session thrown in. Still running a GTX1070 and planning on upgrading to a 4070/ti/super once the 5000 series drop. Would greatly appreciate some advice.
Glad to see my 5800x3d is still a big dog
Imagine buying a $500 CPU to play games at 1080p lmao
Still trying to sell the same games, I see.
I still have a 7950x3d pc without a gpu sitting under my desk. I haven’t had time or budget to finish this but I think I’m just gonna go for it
MSI pushed this to 7.2 GHz on LN2….I’m feeling an LN2 OC stream!!!
Never thought i’d see intel launch bulldozer 2.0
First trump now red team drops a banger. Cant stop winning
I did not notice where was it mentioned as to which motherboard was used to test the 9800x3d?
I’m glad this is such a good part.
But at 1440p dosen’t actually matter what CPU u use no?
Ohhh Christmas is coming!
Glad I grabbed my 7800X3D when thew price was low, 15% more performance but less efficiency wasn’t worth it
But Userbenchmark says Intel is faster
12:16 looks like getting the 5800X3D was the best thing I did for XIV
Does anyone know why the R5 5600X3D beats out the R5 5700X3D in a decent amount of benchmarks? (also what’s everyone’s take on the best bang for your gaming buck right now? R5 5700X3D for <$200?)
This is the first time I’m actually interested to see how the 9950X3D chip will preform given the performance benefit of relocating the 3D Vcashe. AMD should have just release the X3D chips and just scraped the non 3D chips.
I’ve always bought intel because it always felt plug and play in a build. I was waiting to change out my bad mobo for the next gen intel chip just to see they released garbage. For the first time I’m considering going amd. I hear that there are a lot of memory issues and amd specific problems in games. Anyone have experience with amd? Can you confirm or refute?
That Baldur’s Gate 3 chart 😱
never felt more validated owning a 5800x3d as a 4k gamer than now. it’s going to be incredible going to the first am6 3D cpu lol
Great insights and fun stuff as always Steve. Thank you deeply for this amazing review.
Now I just have to wait. Because the processor sold out in 4 minutes!
Anyone else almost suffocating because he won’t breathe lol?
4:45 former price of 7800x3d $449
Former price of 7800x3d, motherboard and 32 GB ram at micro center: $449
Naturally I’m looking for 9800x3d bundle for $449 in 12-18 months. I have a 5800x
I still find it hilarious that there is no 5950x on any benchmark charts.
Seriously, how come neither you or Linus tech tips include the AMD 5950X in any of your benchmarks?
Intel missed the opportunity to get so hard with this one 💀💀💀💀💀💀
The performance difference between the 9800X3D and 14900K is astounding, especially when you consider that the former’s TDP is 133W lower. I can’t believe I just typed that.
Can you do some World of Warcraft tests? X3D CPU’s are best for WoW. Thank you.
just an fyi to the ff14 players, if you use a controller, there’s a bug where the microsoft device association root enumerator will cause the framerate to spike down to unplayable levels no matter what cpu you’re using. if you play on controller disable it in device manager and your framerate won’t see huge spike downs
AMD to Intel in the CPU segment
is like NVIDIA to AMD in the GPU segment.
The real loser is intel because they are losing on both fronts (CPU AND GPU).
Ordered ASAP
9800x3d, mb, ram bundle available for same price as 285k 😂
soo hyped for 9950x3d
Wow… Just totally geeked out on this video… impressive, clear & concise… Cheers @GamersNexus
13:18 You know the part is good when you’re double quadruple checking the score and asking others if they got the same results cuz of how well its performing
I had to check my playback speed on this one mate, way too fast!
Better gains than I thought but looking at those power delta compared to the 7800 I guess that’s where most of it is coming from, plus TSMC’s clever new packaging. Still an overall stupid processor at least at launch price, almost 500 dollars for an 8 core CPU in late 2024 is a bit ridicolous no matter the 370 fps instead of 300 it gets in some titles. When and if it drops to something like 370 then maybe but I’d never pick it over a 7950X/14900K or the 100 dollars cheaper 9700X/14700K/265K for a sometimes 30% increase in 1080p gaming, and I’m not sure many should
Thank you GN for the power efficiency testing. I’ve always considered this to be the only meaningful measure of cpu/gpu progress and have always had to roughly calculate it based on the not very reliable tdp numbers to judge if an upgrade is an upgrade in actual compute performance or just a not very helpful upgrade in my rooms electric heating.
For gaming X3D, for productivity just X. the performance per watt of the 7800X3D is impressive and very capable still for high gaming experience.
I just upgraded my AM4 system to the 5800X3D paired with a 6800XT and i can run most games maxed at 1440p with great frame rates. AMD killing it on the CPU end right now
Yeah, great CPU. Now can they please ffs learn to code a display driver.
Hope you do some DDR5 speed testing with the new Intel and AMD CPUs soonish.
I feel like we are finally seeing more stable 7000+ configurations and would be interesting to see how some applications scale these days.
And if there is a difference at all.
May or may not include DDR4 for good measure.
Thank you Steve and GN Team!
Home Run Steve! Sportsball!
Does the Arctic Liquid Freezer III offset mounting still hold strong with the revisions to how the 9800X3D is manufactured?
lol what a joke – no one plays at 1080p anymore and at 2k/4k this CPU is pointless…
I’m glad AMD finally missed an opportunity to miss an opportunity, and put out a great product. I’m glad I was wrong expecting another disappoint 2-4%. Great job, AMD.
need to send Intel my 10900k to remind them what a cpu used to look like
it worth upgrading from AMD 5950x to 9800XCD?
PLEASE SHOW 4K. i need the constant reinforcement i don’t need to upgrade
Looking forward to upgrading my Board and CPU Great Black Friday and Cyber Monday are coming soon.
Should o upgrade from 12600k
Day 2 of requesting Gamers Nexus to thermal test lian li o11 vision compact with 11 fans configuration.
next PC build will def be AMD after having to troubleshoot for months only to find out 13-gen intel was defective
HAVE THE 7800x3d, GREAT CPU…NEVER ANY ISSUES
This channel is going to start getting shadowbanned by secret shadow agencies …
5800X3D, 7800X3D and 9800X3D are the elite trifecta of efficiency, performance and power. AMD has really been shining with the Ryzen/Zen line and has revamped their Radeon line as well. Intel better get their act together with a quickness because their last three generations of CPU’s have been complete and utter failures. Hopefully their ARC GPU’S survive. Competition is always healthy in the long run.
The 5700x3d looks like an interesting upgrade to my 12100f, but it is 176% more expensive, a bit too much for a 60% performance lift wtf.
$700 on amazon right now lol
I really wish you guys would do more real world testing. 1080 testing is useless for me as a consumer. Its more useful to tribal dick wavers than anything else.
came for snowflake goodbye
What im hearing is that my 7800x3d last year was a and remains a great decision, noted.
X3D is going down as a legendary technology for gaming CPUs. It’s quite impressive stuff, and the power usage is just icing on the cake.
get ready for NVIDIA CPU
I’m having a hard time to understand you in this video. It’s like 1.25x speed or something. Am I the only one?
goddamn — even RNG doesn’t like Intel…
The USD/FPS at various 7800X3D prices charts is a very interesting and useful addition to the review! Thanks, Steve!
Bro u need to bench monster hunter wilds beta re engine same this time cpu limitation as dragon dogma 2 before optimized maybe is the heaviest game right now if u have dragon dogma pre cpu update too it will be awsome 🙂
I have an I7 8700k… is it time to upgrade 😂
I am interested to see how the new core improvements with v cache will pair in 9950x3d.
Why is Intel doing so well with 0.1% lows in R6? Was Userbenchmark right all along?
Für den Amd Ryzen 7 9800X3D welche mainboard soll man kaufen .?
I can’t get my head around why people would pay an extra “$200-300” more for a chip that is not as much better than it’s competitor, maybe because I’m a gamer over productivity. Shows the “tech ” market is failing & destroying itself through greed. 30% better productivity you can’t make a cup of coffee in that time. What are people to do when we all struggle for the simple things in life ?? Coming soon ??
It’s absolutely wild to see that the 5600X actually outperforms the 9950X in some games like Total War Warhammer III. That doesn’t make any sense.
Still looking. Amazon $999 🤨
Beautiful %iles
pre order price here in Norway is above 600$ from the official retailers.. Will be a good time to pick up a R7 7800X3D instead i guess
Has anyone tested 4090 and 9800x3d at 4k yet?
I’d love to see a follow up using the 65W Eco Mode, Wendell suggested that it gave up very little performance when dropping the power a lot
So AMD CPUs can be bottlenecked by a 4090?
Time for Intel engineers to apply for internship at AMD, they need to learn everything again
You are such Nerds! And i Love it!
Intel is no match! The last few years was only Ryzen!
Pad is still waiting for his Zen moment… Not gonna happen Pad ; )
There is Threadripper, APU, Server which all are AMD
Can the AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D be compared to the Apple M4, M4 Pro, or M4 Max CPU? Who is more powerful for CPU performance? Memory bandwidth?
AMD unironically taking the gaming crown from Intel is an astonishing comeback tbh. I really thought they were dead with Bulldozer, im glad to see Ryzen literally bring a company back from the dead, and then go on to take the lead(in gaming, for now, ofc)
OK so I have a 7800x3D CPU, what GPU should I look into getting?
I know the 5000 series is slated out and the 8000 series but is it worth grabbing like a 7900XTX, 7900XT or like a 4070Ti/4080 instead of the new series?
Looks like it is about time Ryzen 5 getting their 3D in the near future.
I heard that SnapDragon is considering buying intel. I wonder if intel is done. If nobody buys their processors they will go out of business and then AMD will have a monopoly. Of course We’ll have to see what other developments they can come up with.
I’d love to see some CPU+xxx$ motherboard at comparisons, since these days the price of them gets wild without people noticing until they actually start building, and then it’s hard to find references
Its amazing here in sweden amd ryzen 9800X3D sold out in 4 min this is what gamers want a real game changer for future gaming!
Of course, it is being sold for 100 over MRSP in Europe
So, now that the actual price is out, its selling for 539 Euros here. My 7800X3D was 475 Euros. 64 Euros more for the new one.
just got a 14700K for $280 from the fire sale
I understand why the team uses 1080p for benchmarking but I feel like anyone upgrading to 9000 series or 14th gen would be running at least 1440p. It would be nice to see if the increase in performance stays the same at higher resolutions.
All Steve love some good o benchmarks
So sexy
Correction from an electrical engineer: 1 watt = 1 joule per second. So instead of “millions of instructions per joule” the unit would be “millions of instructions per joule per second.” Joule is a measure of energy. Power is defined as energy per a given period of time. So power = energy / time : watt = joule /sec. Since the time period is 1 second, the numbers shouldn’t change, just the unit.
It’s a good generational increase. I hope that the 9950X3D will be just as impressive.
Bought for 479 today
will the 9800x3d be supported by Gigabyte B650 Gaming X AX V2 motherboard? or suggest me another
I haven’t had a intel system since a 4790K. Hard to believe.
Imagine the performance of the next X3D processor with a New IO die.
Huh
They moved the cache down there
AMD is a power bottom now
I almost feel bad for Intel but that’s what they deserve for luring people for over a decade with their tic tac toe “upgrades” rather than allocating their ressources foe real research and improvements
Requiesce in pace, Intel.
RIP AMD
Sold out already holy crap!
I bought my 7800x3d on a combo deal on newegg (canada) for $509. Im very lucky I got it before it jumped up in price tons more.
I tried to perchase the 9800x3d if the price was not too much more than that, but it’s sold out immediately, of course.
But looks like I will keep the 7800x3d until end of am5 3d chips. And buy a 5080 or 7900xtx. I have a 7800xt that works amazing but a wast for the cpu I have. Still unsure if i want to stick to 2k or move to 4k monitor
Finally someone with normal graph scales. No cutting of graphs so difference would look bigger.
@GamersNexus Would it be possible for a future showing the 9800X3D testing the claims made by Gigabyte in regards to “boosts gaming performance by up to 35% for incoming Ryzen 9000X3D CPUs, up to 20% for Ryzen 9000 processors, and by an unknown margin for Ryzen 7000X3D products without clearly specifying the baseline for comparison. Yet, it acknowledges that performance improvement depends on ‘processor model and DRAM conditions.” I feel that with todays release consumers will need to know where to best place their money for not only performance, but in reliability as well. Hope this makes for a great addition if this idea hasnt already been mentioned! 🙂
This leads a consumer to believe that not only will the initial baseline of the 9800X3D be higher(credit to AMD), but their board alone while running the newest bios update with turbo enabled will allow up to 20-35% better performance.
Consumer source here:
https://www.tomshardware.com/pc-components/cpus/gigabyte-x3d-turbo-mode-promises-up-to-35-percent-higher-gaming-performance-on-ryzen-9000x3d-ryzen-9000-could-see-up-to-20-percent-improvement
In the FFXIV benchmark (12:22), the 5600x3D managed to beat the 5700x3D in both 1% lows and average FPS. This is unexpected.
Does anyone know a reviewer that tests new CPUs with Handbrake included as a test?
Tnaks in Advance for any answer.
Why does everyone run these benchmark tests at 1080P? Doesn’t seem very relevant when most people have moved on from 1080p. Especially people in the market for a 9800x3d or a 285k.
But still too expensive to be of any value to most people
30:16 I like how you did $420 in green there. 😉
Hi should I buy a 7800x3d or the new 9800x3d
what does OOS mean on your cpu pricing chart ? thanks
Dumb question here…. When I was young, the Core 2 Duo released and started Intel’s upward trajectory and basically for almost a decade and a half AMD was basically relegated to the bargain section. Every release felt underwhelming.
But now AMD is on top (for a relatively short time too), and the news cycle is almost making it seem like Intel is going to go insolvent if it doesnt get funds. How is this possible? Does anyone actually understand the situation at Intel?
All i need to know is that Intel rolled a nat 1 in the video. Dice christ has spoken.
maybe that’s the cpu that won’t suffer from cpu bottleneck within this decade
So I know the majority of people still play at 1080p, however wouldn’t it be ok to include at least 1 test, if not all games tested, at 4k resolution too? You are calling it a gaming CPU yet ignoring both 1440p and 4k gaming.
For me personally I skipped most of the review because it has no relevance to what I game at. I also won’t even consider buying a CPU without seeing results from 4k gaming. It’s sad that I have to watch let’s play videos just to see 4k gaming results.
Please include some higher resolution game Play for every CPU! Even if at that point it’s more video card, it’s still useful to see for everyone.
450 MSRP.. so 530-600 depending on the retailer. THats insane value for how strong the CPU is (at least for gaming PCs).
Would have liked to see some test at 4K. I assume at 4k there is no point in upgrading my whole system from a 14900KS to this as the improvements would be lost or minimal?
Those Baldur’s Gate numbers… holy shite!
Well… let see the bright side of life for the new Intel cpus: because of the long new naming scheme (which does not make chips go faster), its easier to see them in the charts.
And yes folks, thats about it.
Userbenchmark surprisingly doesn’t have anything bad to say about it. Maybe they are waiting for people to get a hold of them.
Perhaps they have finally conceded slapping cache on the die just works
Can we maybe include a single 1080p vs 1440p vs 4k on a single game for scaling reference?
9800X3D is about 249% (2.5 times more) more expensive VS 5700X3D currently in Norway. 7800X3D is currently 219% more expensive VS 5700X3D. DDR4 can be had currently for half the price of DDR5. AM4 motherboards can be had cheaper aswell, but not substantially cheaper if you compare a nice B550 to an okay B650. In Norway you could buy AM4 motherboard, 32GB RAM, 5700X3D AND a RX 7700 XT graphics card for the same price you would pay for just AM5 motherboard, DDR5 and a 7800X3D with no graphics card! That is something to think about!
They should have put a x3d chip in a ps5. Cache for gaming is insane.
i reckon u should sell your own prebuilt PC only 1 configuration to keep simple, in 1 year or when grace architecture becomes cheap and gaming version. ID BUY IT!!!
Thanks for including a code compilation benchmark.
What is it like with Microsoft Flight Simulator?
Intel this intel that, they have sucked for far too long, almost been a monopoly on the market. CIA loves them though
In Europe people are already biting into 9800x3d stock even at inflated prices 🤦🏻♂️
+540€
The 7800x3d is above 480€ also.
I want to change my 13600K but not at inflated prices…
It’s a $580 cpu and 1080p has been dead for 10 years.
we eating good games with this new cpu in 2025
im still running a ryzen 2600 and gtx 1070, pray for me
Good day for 1080p gamers 🙂
I don’t know gamers nexus how are not exhausted to show benchs and results in 1080p res and 2k, and nothing in 4k, probably are paid to not benchmark in 4k as the results will be no improvement to previous gen. 1% increase in gaming 9800x3d to 7800x3d in 4k resolution. Nobody any longer plays on 1080p or 2k res except on tournaments. Whoever plays on 1080p better get Nintendo or sega mega drive 2 you will get better visuals and graphics 😀 Neither AMD neither Intel created better gaming CPU compared to ex gen. The new gen is on par with the previous gen., period! It is just like iphones, every year new number behind the new model and few minor barely visible improvements. Do not be a simple consumer that buys every year the new model just because it is the newest model. Personally myself I buy things as GPU for example when there is a 70% increase compared to my current older model. I have seen many people playing on rtx 4090 in 1080p which is complete absurd, this card is meant to play in 4k where you have the best fidelity, visuals, graphics, crisp picture and eye happiness of every detail in modern games!
yeeeeaah about msrp… 576 euro retail:) just saying that basing a chart (even experimental) on msrp price which you cannot find anywhere (don’t know maybe there are some US retailers who are into charity) but for EU it’s 20% VAT from the get go. just a little bit of feedback regarding experimental charts.
Keep up the spectacular work.
Let’s just admire that the 5800x3d is STILL at the top on charts how many years later? Like AM4 is the relic that is outliving generations.
bench Broken Arrow beta?
Might as well go for the 9800x3d instead of 7800x3d because round about same price
I’m sure I’m not the first person to ask, and I’m sure I won’t be the only person to ask: any chance for a dice set that has a mixture of both an inductor and Snowflake?
+ cudimm ram, 9000 series seems to have a lot of upside
I’ve been a very happy customer of AMD Ryzen CPUs …… but even happier with all their X3D CPUs for my gaming rigs🥰👍. Saying that I’ve purchased a 9800X3D for one of my gaming rigs and soooo lookin* forward to putting my RTX 4090 through its paces even more so now💪🥳. This cpu is an absolute beast!
Ryzens Zen 5 architecture has been a but ‘meh’😒 but it added AVX to its CPUs snd tweaked its cache etc which has proven valuable in some workstation applications 💪🤩but not so in gaming ☹….. yet now we’re seeing that cache restructure etc paying off more so in conjunction with X3D V-cache in gaming and getting some very results and in other games reviewers are needing to double/triple check results as they’ve improved that much😳🤯🥳! It will be interesting what Zen 6 can achieve😱
To play at 4K resolution with an RTX 4090, is it worth changing my Ryzen 7 5800X for this 9800X3D?
That shit is expensive but also at the same time makes every dollar count.
You know what this makes me wonder, if nowdays you are better off investing 100$ more into an X3D cpu rather than into the gpu, would be a interesting thing to review for the ~1000/1500$ pc budget
The craziest part of this is still the massive efficienty advantage amd has over the newest intel architacture on their new production node they are using.
This has great advantages for the future of the architectures.
I have a 7800x3D. My friend is about to buy the 9800x3D. Do I have anything to continue to brag about other than (power) efficiency or am I cooked?
Love the reoccurring theme. New product launches, people who actually want to upgrade their dated computer try to purchase. Scalpers buy all the stock from every store and resell THE SAME DAY. From $480 MSRP increased already on eBay and Amazon for $1000.
I have a 7800x3D, so I’m not in a hurry to upgrade.
But, this gives me so much optimism for the future of AM5
Going to see how the Ryzen 9 X3D holds up in comparison, ofc I know gaming throughput won’t be better but I’m waiting to see how close it gets to the 9800X3D even with 2 CCDs as both CCDs will have that tasty 3D v-Cache. A lot of people say that both CCDs having 3D v-Cache won’t do much but waiting and seeing won’t cost me anything.
But from what I have seen Intel is a non-starter in comparison to AMD’s offerings and I say this as someone using Intel for my desktops since Sandy Bridge.
AAANNDDD, it’s immediately sold out on release. It was up on Amazon and Newegg for about a minute, by the time I got to the cart for checkout it was gone. Placed an order at Microcenter, we’ll see how that goes, they’re not open yet.
Honestly; the gains don’t seem that big in titles that are actually harder to run like DD2; really want to see more benchmarks from titles like that rather then old ones. More efficiency is nice but I am honestly not worried about wattage, I want a more powerful CPU to brute force through poorly optimized titles.
I can see how this cpu crushes everything, including the 7800x3d @1080p. Is it also a significant FPS boost over the 7800x3d @1440p?
Where’s MS Flight Sim? Very CPU heavy
Havn’t really watched the new Intel lineup or the other Ryzen 9000 lineup reviews, but it’s nice to see FFXIV Dawntrail with the Ryzen 5 3600 (closest to me 3500X) included! I’m looking forward to seeing some new GPU benchmarks once the next gen GPUs start to come out unless there’s a GPU revisit by then to see how the GPUs would compare to the CPUs at 1080p considering it was still Endwalker for the last GPU benchmark that was the 1080 Ti revisit.
Just snagged one off Amazon and can confirm 479.00 price
if you know someone who just woke up from a 7-yr coma, tell them “Intel bad, AMD good”
they’ll be shock to their core lol
Very useful review and happy to see the continued success of the x3D platform for gaming. Would love to see 1440 testing especially in comparison to the 7800x3D, as I’m hearing it’s a minor uplift at best and would like to confirm
I just got one on newegg for $480 and It said it coming soon and still let me add it to my cart lol
Baldur’s Gate 3 FTW
But it seems this “RIP Intel” is more on the gaming side, productivity-wise Intel still leads the pack.
better watch these on mute…ffs my ears bleed.
2:35 Jesus Christ Steve breathe brother
That baldurs gate 3 result is Fucking. Nuts.
I’m loving the humor in this video! Way to go Steve! 😂
as a 13600k owner last year….i really really want this CPU but id have to change my ram and motherboard tooooooo
Is the 285K a bad product or just priced wrong?
3D cache is cheating
I am wondering if because it is stronger than current intel is it so good that it wins over in adobe premiere too?
Damn
Think it’s time for my i7-8700k to retire.
Am blown away by the reviews for the 9800X3D, but amusingly its also made me happier I got the 7800X3D, that power draw really matters for me xD
i havent seen all of the video yet. can some 1 tell me is there is any mention of 4k or 1440p resolution?
So happy to still see the 5800x3d preforming so well :D. Got mine at the start of 2023 on a whim, upgraded from my 3900x.
Gave the 3900x to my sister upgrading her 3700x, and build my dad a new pc with the 3700x. Not only was it a great upgrade for me, but it also facilitated upgrades for the whole family 😀
Thanks, Steve.
@GamersNexus About these experimental charts: Great ideas, but the presentation is really bad.
1. Delta in USD/FPS: It doesn’t make much sense to plot all price alternatives, they will be linear by definition. Instead just tell the break-even price per game, i.e. the price at which the 7800X3D will have the same USD/FPS as the 9800X3D, meaning a lower actual price of the 7800X3D favors the 7800X3D and above favors the 9800X3D. Also note how many AVG FPS one gets (e.g. as smaller number right below the theoretical $ price), it’s important for reference. Then calculate and show other CPUs as well in a table (rows are CPUs, columns are games; so don’t add too many; you might add another table for general workloads). Same could work for GPUs. This even allows people to recalculate the values if the price of the 9800X3D changes…
2. % Increase Power vs. % Increase Performance: You definitely want that to be a XY coordinates system. Plot the performance increase on the X axis and the power increase on the Y axis. Both axis should range from -50% to +100% (with equal distance, because negative percentages; depending on the results you might want to choose a different range). Also put a diagonal line in the chart: above that line is worse, below is better. Then put small markings in the chart to mark the games (one game gets circles, another squares, another crosses, another triangles, etc. – there aren’t many more, so this also limits the number of games). You can then even compare multiple CPUs (also works for GPUs) at once: Define a reference CPU (should always be the tested CPU, i.e. the 9800X3D) and plot all games with the 7800X3D e.g. in blue, 5800X3D in green, all games with the 285K in red, all games with the 14900K in orange, etc. But don’t add too many, I guess six CPUs max. It should give a pretty nice overall picture of how the tested CPU compares to other CPUs when looking at the colors.
How are boot times and have any memory training issues been fixed?
i got unsub? wtf youtube
me cheering Amd while watching this using athlon x2
Other Steve planting CPU on WH40K mini. You’re selling dice. Is this a hint of boardgaming with Steves in future?
Looks like 9700x is still no good…
Userbenchmark comment about the 7800X3D –
‘PC gamers considering a 7000X3D CPU need to work on their critical thinking skills: Influencers are paid handsomely to promote overpriced niche products (X3D, EPYC, Threadripper etc.).’
Cant wait for the 9800X3D review. I havent laughed this well in weeks.
The reason the non x3d parts weren’t much of an improvement is probably because they focused on memory optimisations and architectural changes to facilitate the x3d lineup.
intel me they’ll do better next time lol
Need Factorio benchmark. People on forums were having some wild improvements on the 9800X3D
Damn those lows are sexy
Still im purchased inel 😢
can you include simulations such as xplane and msfs….?
Userbenchmarks: Still not as good as an i3 CPU.
What’s with the 0.1% lows being so low for rainbow 6 siege and intel cpu’s scoring over a 100 points higher?Does it mean siege is a stutter fest with amd cpus?
This launch should be considered a war crime 😶
So how much better is the 9800x3d than the 7800x3d in 1440p ultra? If you’re using one of these chips you’re probably not playing in 1080p
Thank you for still keeping older CPUs like the 2600 and 3700X in the charts!
How are the emulator performance gains? And does yuzu run without issues on Zen 5? That would really make me consider upgrading now
4k test?
The blender render is such a useless benchmark anyone who is rendering in blender will be using a gpu. I really wish you guys would find a better test for cpu performance in blender and zbrush I really want to see how 3d cache helps on 3d sculpting programs. We’re left completely up in the air about whether more vcqche will be a benefit do I buy a 9950x or 9950x3d, no way to truly know where I will benefit which I really would love to know.
cualquier micro con actual con mas de 6 nucleos es bueno para jugar
Why is the 7950x3d so low in benchmarks? I thought the game bar detection fixed performance and core parking issues.
Is it worth upgrading my 7800x3d to 9800 ????
I gotta say… Had the rest of the 9000 series had the expected uplift of performance this generation. I believe the 9800x3d would look less impressive.
I’m pleased with its improved performance. But I’m still rotten that the rest couldn’t even average 10% over last gen.
just realised that after the nuclear war and the world been destroyed and next civilisation starts to grow, and they find these CPU´s they are going to wonder what level of tech we had and dont understand how something could be made so small, cuz their civilisation is the best and all mighty and it never been a better one than theirs.
🧙♂
Great for the Gaming .
However AMD does not recommend for Video editing and Adobe protect.
Intel and Nvidia are good.
Userbenchmarks ordering a new batch of copium tanks.
The FPS/W charts are good and helpful for people who don’t need 600 fps but are looking for an efficient CPU.
Any hope for rounded edge dice sets in the future?
Im glad what I started to support team red years ago! Now they are on top 😊
I’d love too see benchmarks at 1440p/4k so I can work out whether or not this is a useful upgrade alongside my 7900XT
Gotta admit that this x3D design is a blessing for gamers.
according to the automatic captions the 9800X3D comes with “extra cash”
2:00 Those Dice look incredible off balanced… I understand the testing and look forward to the video.
I like the structure of the review. And a good round-up for different use cases
Hopefully at some point AMD will also start dominating in graphics. (i said hopefully at some point)
Gotta admit that this x3D design is a blessing for gamers.
I wonder what are the 1440p benchmarks. Also I wonder how it will perform after the patches, because that power consumption is higher than 7800X3D and performance is lower at some points.
Oh the jewels is making me cry in boredom. Why is this done! It’s so over the top.
Make CPU’s Great Again
YES FINALLY SOMEONE WHO BENCHMARKS RAINBOW SIX!
AMD Raided intel homes ravaging and salting the land so that nothing grows again.
PC Mag gave the 9800X3D 2.5 out of 5 “Fair” 🤣
What is the ultimate gaming cpu 9800X3D or 9950X3D?
This chip is insane!
Sad for Intel…
I’ll save a bunch of money for this cpu and a new motherboard, probably better off replacing the 13900k with a 14900ks
I’m thinking more and more about switching to AMD
I’m actually impressed, where else can you get good tech journalism with high quality products they sell to support said journalism?
Lol real question how much is AMD paying you reviewers? Geez not everyone only games with a pc.
Not bad, not bad. i wont replace my 7800x 3d yet, but that is pretty good improvement
Will it be worth for 4k gaming since newer games are more cpu hungry?
Good sir, could you please include Heart of iron 4? Stellaris and that game eat cpu like booty cheeks
I don’t understand how many failed launches are needed for companies to learn that customers care far, far less about delays than disaster launches.
Do you think efficiency will be improved (over the 7800X3D) once some software side will be made in the next weeks/months?
A like and a comment due to including Stellaris. Really hope you add Civ 7 turn time benches when that releases.
So that was using 23H2, right?
Can you test Cities skyline 2 with this CPU ?
Intel just keep digging its own grave
Damn you beat me to: but the embedded thingies will affect probabilities! Need to assemble my old timers for some 2nd edition action.
I know the 5950x is kind of irrel in terms of performance these days, but when it comes to MIPS/W it was a star for a long time – would be good to see this CPU in the efficiency benchmark suite, particularly against the Zen 5 parts. I feel like this CPU provides more of a historical benchmark in energy efficiency than many of the other included CPUs, but on the other hand, people are more likely to be holding on to 5800X3D CPUs or lower. I’m not complaining with how comprehensive the charts are at all; I am simply curious into how it places in these benchmarks.
Definitely grabbing me one of these for my new build, a Christmas gift for myself .
No 1440p or 4K comparaison? not even one? :/
So, I have an AMD Ryzen 9 7900X that I bought July11, 2023, do you guys think it’s time to upgrade?
DND DICE
It surely does well with optimised applications but for the rest it’s an e-waste, dear 😉
nobody mentions how they went from 333$ to 479$ for a small performance increase??
people really are stupid
RIP Intel would be bad for all of us, even AMD users. So I hope Intel will survive this, or else we get a monopoly. I mean, at least the new platform is generally better than the AMD platform in terms of features. So maybe some people will go with the less performant CPU to buy a more modern platform. And maybe Intel will repair some things to get competitive again. They at least have to bring the prices down, so that they can do, what AMD does with its graphics cards. Less power but more value, more or less. 50-70 Euros down on the 245K and it would be great value compared to a 9600X for example.
0:04 poor baby
Great video as always however I’m curious as to why none of the reviewers are mentioning the overclocking potential and performance of this chip. Was this a rule that AMD emposed as the chip wasn’t released yet?
Just sad that I built a 14900k build in December. Wish I would have waited.
I love how cooked Intel is at this point
Glad to see my CPU in at least some of the charts (7950X3D). Got it in a bundle at MicroCenter with an X670E motherboard and 32 GB DDR5-600 for $699 a few months ago. Been a great improvement over my older i9-10850k, and it doesn’t run like a furnace under load.
New absolute world champion in the gaming division)
who is playing with that expensive cpu in 1080p these days? useless tests, or it will point out that to play in 4k there’s no difference what cpu you have, so better invest in gpu and gain much more fps per $ in higher resolutions
please test Microsoft flight simulator, that’s really where these X3d chip really shine!
Paper launched 285K on 6000 UDIMM. That’s already 10-15% downgrade. Also so underpowered and underclocked that overclocked and no temperature problems you can add 35% performance boost. Add to that CUDIMM and we are looking at 40-50% performance potentially missing from the Arrow Lake. And we haven’t added the APO yet that has potential for 10-50% gains. This is not all. Win11 poorly supports Arrow Lake and MB’s BIOS’s are far from optimal. 285K was only a paper launch very cutdown version of the full potential. Also tests were on ASUS board that compared is known to perform extremely poorly loosing 10% of the performance.
There is so much potential performance on the table and more when paired with INTEL ARC. If you start to add the percentage you get 100-110% missing performance or as potential. Of course I’m not that naive to directly just add that on but it will make the comparison more fair when you add a good MB, use supported CUDIMM that AMD doesn’t, add APO that AMD doesn’t have, pair to the directec architecture that to me is obvious as the INTEL ARC. So why are the test results downgraded for INTEL and what it supports. That’s part of the performance and real world performance if you are supporting and running CUDIMM or APO. Why cut these from the tests to give false results?
I would advice to look a bit deeper as the youtube is not the most reliable source being paid mostly and political. TSMC making the CPU’s/GPU’s and China making the MB’s America just voted for 40% tariff that most likely will increase the price by 50-60% for the average American. So your $600 CPU now is $900-1000. 5080 for example predicted $1200-1500 now $1800-2400. And the planned launch of these products are next year mostly when all this will happen. Gratulation. (Sarcasm)
I would wait for the Battlemage that utilizes the PCIe 5.0 direct access to CPU and the 8 pin power to it on selected boards. With the new tariffs you will saver on all INTEL system $1000-1500 for 5080 performance. That’s my prediction. 285K actual launch with Battlemage can also reveal a more open less restrictive overclocking. 285K extreme (290K).
does this CPU have the weird core parking optimisations that exist on the 7900x3d, 7950x3d, 9900x, and 9950x?
So practically the only chip 99.9% of PC users need
How is the 7600x3d vs 5800x3d chip FPS difference average ?
What’s the point of testing a RTX4090 in 1080p resolution?
I’m probably going to go for it once I can find a suitable motherboard that can get 3 expansion cards in it. May have to drop the AE-7 card and unplug/plug in speakers, headphones. Bit of a hassle considering the side and location of the 7000D case. Want to keep my 4K capture card for console stream recording.
Only thing not making me jump to getting a 9800X3D at this time. I really would drop 2 NVME slots just for those expansion slots. Threadripper out of question, too expensive. If AMD goes AM6 at one point, they do need to increase pci lanes a fair bit and get another expansion card slot or two added again.
Finding it hard for a board that can do 6000mhz ram with x870. Might have to wait for B850 boards next year. Going for USB sound device not an option either. No more power sockets, already using 10 socket adapter with lack of 5.25 slots on cases these days. I’ll figure it out, might have to forego the error code LED for some of the 3 expansion slot boards this generation.
Ironically, after this video I think i am going for the 7800x3d instead 😂
Once again another GOAT video from the best review channel still around today. This is 4hours of content compressed into 40min. You can tell they spent years making this review that people will brush off because people will just see: “$480 makes number go higher than Intel.”
1080p gaming… Wow that says a lot….
Is there any news on the 9950x3d?
I am sorry but this review is very disingenuous, not a single game was tested above 1080p Meaning we cant use any of these data unless you play at low resolution.
Thanks for another great review! One question/suggestion: When it comes to accounting for the other draws on the ATX 12V line for Intel, couldn’t you account for that by doing a preliminary test with both one and two memory sticks and extrapolating the approximate total draw for the memory from the delta between the two?
Glad to see AMD finally beat ziointel 🇵🇸
The experimental “delta in USD/FPS at various simulated prices” chart is very interesting to me and I hope you continue to include it and refine it. Even in it’s current state I would like to see it as a regular addition to your reviews, especially if there are contrasts that GN thinks are particularly illuminating.
Reviewers always forget Microsoft flight sim benchmark
2:05 I know nobody asked my opinion, but the plastic cat looks cheap, not like something you’d use in a promotion. I’ve probably seen better-looking toys and other pieces of plastic at the bottom of a Cracker Jack box.
Yeah and, uh, I don’t play tabletop dice games, but I think balanced dice are far more important than using e-waste in them. I imagine it’s so very important to serious players that they’d be unlikely to even consider altering the balance of dice or introducing any variable that could possibly alter the precise balance. I’d better stop talking about it before I turn myself on.
Finally some good news
My 7950X3D is soo tasty 😋 I love it ❤
Waiting 10000
Surprised its less efficient than 7800X3D. But also glad. The 7800X3D CPU gonna last me a long time.
Cool. Is it gonna warp/blow up like the 7800X3D did?
Hmm… between these excellent results for the 9800X3D, Intel 13/14th gen shenanigans and the DOA-launch of the Core Ultra generation…. one really has to wonder WTF is going on at Intel.
Hey there GN team.
I was aiming for 9800 to upgrade my 12700k.
Some of my friend told me that 7800x3D had problem to efficient play + streaming
Do 9800x3D cover that problem or it will be the same ?
And if I config streaming app to use GPU not CPU for encoding it still will hits CPU preformance ??
Where are the 1440p and 4K tests? I’m really missing them, and i would probably never recommend this CPU for someone who intends to game on 1080p. There are plenty of cheaper alternatives which perform “good-enough”.
so for gaming this is the best , for the millions of people doing 3d modeling ect still buy intel ?
When i see those benchmarks i usually check where my 7600x is sitting and well.. that was some good invested money 🙂
Do you guys think a 9950x3d would perform on par with the 9800x3d for gaming? given the history of 7800x3d and 7950x3d. I’m trying to decide if I should wait for it and risk Trump’s inevitable tariffs increasing prices.
Just so that people shut up about it already, the reason they test at 1080p and with strong gpus is to eliminate as much of the gpu bottleneck as possible. This means you can see the true strength of the cpu better. Come on guys, this is very simple to understand…
12700k never is included even in the past years
Nobody cares about 500fps performance in 1080p and low settings when buying such processor. Please benchmark it at 1440p and 2160p and/or ultra settings to see its real life performance.
TWWH3 should be turn time or load time, instead of FPS
I’m happy you tested randomness on your dice… my first thought was… that component inside is going to skew the weight and probabilities… 🙂
“9800X3D is definitely the new gaming king…”
It’s almost like intel is not trying to compete anymore….
at least not on that market segment.
Gaymers playing in 720p with 4090 going insane now, rip intel
They knew. They left everyone to talk about 4% difference from 7 series, and they left the cake for later. This bastards did it again.what an impressive way to deliver
This is the sole method they can market the 9800X3D by displaying higher Fps in 1080p. 😂 BS
Interesting that AMD finally beat Intel in Starfield. Now you can experience higher frame rates while staring at loading screens and empty planets made up of dirt and rocks.
Intel has already dug its own grave, now the two Steve’s are just filling it up.
intel is rip for gaymers
I assume there is literally no difference between 9800x3d and 7800x3d when it comes to 4k gaming?
This is a fine enough product and I’m glad AMD makes it, but it’s just as much of a vanity halo product as the Intel extreme CPUs. The headroom is useful for ultra-high FPS, simulation type games, and a few other scenarios, but we have already seen the 5800X3D lose some potency because of lacking IPC (that is, the cache moved the bottleneck back to the CPU) and history will likely repeat itself here. It will age better than its peers, but unless you’re specifically benefiting from it now or soon, you probably should not buy it.
Higher frequency from new packaging is impressive (and it’s cool that AMD finally is using notable power vias, maybe), but we’re now at a dumb point where AMD has both a non-interposer chiplet interconnect, and the necessary interconnects to do interposer-based stacking, on the same product, all while being bandwidth-starved in the multi-chiplet configuration that also sells as both a Ryzen Pro and EPYC part.
Obviously Intel is not exactly capitalizing, but we should apply the same standard to AMD as we did to Intel: this is a colossal waste of technology. This is like developing the perfect CPU core for thin and light laptops, then only shipping it with single channel memory in education-style laptops for 5 years running (which funny enough, also applies to Bobcat/Jaguar/Puma, but I’m referring to Atom).
packaging and final testing in my country Malaysia
AMD Penang✌️👍
Testing RSS but not CS2 is a crime 😀
I like how all three R7 x800X3D CPUs are on the F1 benchmark podium
Once again: Please don’t speak quickly to the point where you’re almost slurring. Either shorten the video or just let it run a little bit longer.
Holy smokes intel is cooked lol
I just so happened to get a pretty big pile of money just in time to build with this monster
What is going on with Intel? They are done for if they cant turn out a good worthy product soon.
really like your complexity of tests .. the best
Great video.
End of an era. Can’t believe Intel is being crushed like this over and over again.
7950x3d scores here seem much lower than I expected or compared to HUB numbers. I wonder what’s up with that.
9800x3d seems pretty damn good, and makes the 9950x3d seem even more interesting.
one i7 14700 TDP = three AMD R7 9800X3D !!!! Hahahahahahaha….
Still stick with intel its way better than my i7 11 gen😊
So my 7800x3d is still badass?!
Newegg has the 7800x3d for $489 apparently it’s on sale from $600. I guess picking some arbitrarily high number and crossing it out to a lower number looks better than crossing out $450 and marking it up to to 490. 🤣
Тесты уровня, я тут срань какую то нарисовал, главное много чтоб нихера непонятно было. 14600 выше 285к и 14900 – это не косяк тестирования это другое!
Those baldurs gate numbers are nuts.
If Intel dies, AMD will be next, Nvidia. 😂
they have a win but i fully expect amd to fuck it up somehow
what the hell did you do to the 7950x3d?
1080P is a garbage comparison. 1440P to 4K is what we want. And at these resolutions the performance scales a lot closer making the 9800X3D a good gaming chip but not even enough to make anyone with a 14900K want to go out and upgrade their entire system for this weeny that cant even compute to save its skin.
So im just wondering how much of an impact it is to upgrade from 5800x3d for 4k gaming considering that im planning to get 5080 later down the road..
480 dollar msrp now for retail at the low price of 699.99 😂 probably how it is gonna go.
All these victories are sharply deflated, it is worth starting not in 720p – but at least in 1440p, and in 4k it doesn’t matter at all. In fact, all these advantages are with 4090, put 4070 sti and suddenly there will be parity in games again. And in all sorts of work tasks, 9800x3d will suddenly be in the ass. At the same time, on the wave of hype, AMD will definitely jack up the price to the sky for its “best gaming processor”. But in fact, almost everyone who doesn’t have a 4090 won’t give a damn what the processor is. And those who have a 4090 won’t give a damn either, because they’ll be playing in 4K, and everything will be limited by the video card. So it turns out – the processor is excellent for games – but in fact the difference will be about zero with some 24528513900k, because in those modes in which they play, there will be no noticeable difference. And for work tasks, suddenly 9800x3d will turn out to be a dump for overpricing. However, my sincere thanks for the great work on testing !
Waiting sb do 6ghz oc on this thing…
AMD wins…fatality.
Only AMD beats AMD
Pause between words, my friend.
It’s good to see AMD pick things up with the 9800X3D compared to the messed up launch of the 9000 series. I have a 5800X3D paired with a 4070. I don’t see any need to upgrade as of yet. Prices on things are going up and up, so it’s not exactly good for my budget at the moment to do any upgrades.
Please let the stock of the 9800x3d be sufficient to prevent scalpers from being able to buy everything out and raise prices…
I wish we had 1440p and 4k gaming FPS differences, I’ve been on 1440p for 12 years and the 1080p doesn’t help me choose at all.
So, AMD missed an opportunity to miss an opportunity?
when you started reciting chemicals I immediately knew it was a piss on the grave ^^
such a savage review, I love it! this is what I’m here for, exactly this. when something’s good you call it out, when it sucks you call it too.
9000 series launch – I didn’t consider it a flop… Liked the efficient numbers, but otherwise it was just.. meh.. neither good nor bad – just meh. Intel Ultra 200 series, yea that was awefull. Hoping it’ll mature nicely over time. But certainly hurts. 9000X3D was finally a good launch this round.
Cringe how Intel decided to draw significantly more power for the CPU through the 24-pin ATX connector to trick people into thinking the chips draw less power.
But does it have AI in it?
Bro, is there a way you could include Dota 2 in your efficiency benchmark?
AAA titles sure but there are people based on steam charts that would be interested on benchmarks for the most played games.
Wow this is Sandy Bridge versus Bulldozer but flipped. Hopefully intel won’t be stuck in a hole as long as AMD was back then……
9800x3d is definitely going up in price
2025 might be the year to upgrade my 9900k and 2080ti, even though it still strong in 1440
Man those DnD dice sets are so detailed and well designed. Top Quality
its time for selling intel to qualcomm, intel not have progress at all only downgrade everything cpu-gpu very bad performance and overprice
I think I will have almost no gains vs 7800x3d with 7800xt on board @2k resolution
500 bucks for 9800x3d? I guess I’ll stick with 7800x3d until price drops to around 400
No more intel for me. Using 7800x3d now and will upgrade to 9800x3d soon.
I’m wondering what will happen with middle of the road GPUs at 1440. will the 9800x3d be enough to handle the lack of potency of the GPU, or 1440 is it too GPU dependent to be able to raise it?
Now I can play Rimworld late game
4K gaming = 0% gain
We are all laughing at Intel right now but let’s be honest, when they eventually go bankrupt the government will definitely bail them out with taxpayer’s money (no matter who or what is in office)
how insane of an upgrade is this gonna be for me if im on a 9700k i7
Crazy how this was probably the one generation where intel could’ve had an easy win thanks to the smaller performance gains with Zen 5, yet completely fumbled and basically guaranteed their company would never recover.
35:03 omg, those CPUs with bent pins…give them a grave!
strange that recently they started buying the 7800X3D and now a lot of them will be returned.
you humans are unbelievable.
You can’t kill intel with all RIP titles. intel will always come back for RIP and RIP again
Thanks for the test result! I am saving up for my next machine to be 9800X3D and 5090.
Test in 1440p and 4k !!!! Not 1080p
Flat earth confirmed
Dude…you can enjoy enthusiasm for both PC tech as well as golf. Golf is easily as technical.
Please open all M4 chips.
Yes Steve. AMD scored a Touch Down and then kicked the extra point of good measure.
Rip SHinTel
Flat earth confirmed
29:54 Why all the different price colors have same processor 7800X3D ??!
Bg3 thou….. I was like ah it’s probably like 10 maybe 15% not almost 30%….
im missing the 1440p benchmarks, mostly for the CPU bound games like FFXIV
Newegg will give you $220 trade in on your 7800x3D
Going to test overclocking?
This is userbenchmark’s remarks on the 7800X3D: “AMD continue to develop ‘Advanced Marketing’ relationships with select youtubers with the obvious aim of compensating for second tier products with first tier marketing. PC gamers considering a 7000X3D CPU need to work on their critical thinking skills: Influencers are paid handsomely to promote overpriced niche products (X3D, EPYC, Threadripper etc.). Rational gamers have little reason to look further than the $300 13600K which offers comparable real-world gaming and better desktop performance at a fraction of the price.” LMAO
Looking Forward To The 9950X3D
Gonna build a new PC once the 50XX GPU’s launch to see if the 5060 is an improvement (probably still gonna be 8/128 knowing Nvidia), and the 9800X3D being as good as it is means the 7XXX CPU’s are gonna get pushed down in price; CPU’s that are still great but now at a lower price, what’s not to love?
And the gaming chip finally arrives.
Great video would of liked to see some ddr5 speed differences.
Steve KNOWS ball
You should get J.D. Vance to endorse the dice sets.
so… when are you overclocking that baby? 😉
Wow. Amazing.
Does AMD still not have warrranty for expo? I’m sure overclocking will not have any warranty, but do they still not offer it for expo?
My new PC only need a motherboard and a CPU. These results are impressive! Might buy this but looks like its worth to wait until february for the bigger core variants, because despite of bad voices, this CPU is a champion!
RIP Intel 😂
This is a bloodbath.
Out of curiosity, when discussing bottlenecks in Warhammer 3: Total War, I noticed that it is only being benched at 1080p on medium settings. With such a good GPU and CPU isn’t that just asking to experience bottlenecks? Why not bench it at max settings on 1080p or increase the resolution?
Just goes to show AMD isn’t our friend anymore 8 Cores for 480$ hot dang.
I have a 4090 and 9900k gaming at 4k.. Should i upgrade? 🤔
The 9950X3D is going to be insane based on the gains between the 9800X3D & 7800X3D – if the gap between the 9950X3D & 7950X3D is the same, and it’s overclockable etc… going to be crazy.
Look forward to seeing it, because that’s what I’m waiting for, need the extra cores for workloads, want the X3D for gaming.
I keep missing the R9 5950x in all these reviews in the last few months, whereas CPUs like the 3700x and older are still being mentioned. Come on, Steve, please add this little CPU back to the list benchmarks as well.
For the video and the review I have only to say:
Thanks Steve!
Peaceful Skies
How well would the Ryzen 7 9800X3D perform in a platform designed specifically for flight simulation (MSFS 2020, MSFS 2024, X-Plane 12, DCS) at 4K Ultra settings using a VR headset like Pimax Crystal Light or Somnium VR-1?
It’s nice. I am using the 7800X3D and won’t upgrade now but if I was on something older I would make the move.
Where is the r9 5900x? Don’t see it on any review and that’s what I have. So I don’t know where I land 🙁
I think I’m good with my 7800X3D, but this should be a no-brainer for gamers building brand-new.
Wow. 9800X3D is way faster compared to 7800X3D vs 5800X3D. What a performance. Real king of cpu!
Part 2: Top 10 AM5 boards to pair with 9800x3D
so intel is faster in apps i dont care about… I am choosing intel…. liberal response
fug dude, I got the ryzen 9 7900x a year ago thinking it’s bigger number so most gooder, seeing it so low on benchmarks is making me really upset. I guess im gonna have to buy a new CPU, I thought I made the right choice with my 4090 and all new rig. fug dude.
So basically… I’m still good with 5700X3D…
Please add MSFS to these tests!
I have a feeling this is gonna be the 2nd GTX 1080 Ti of CPU moment here (1st one was 5800X3D). I hope no CPU based Cryptocurrency wont ruin it. I need a new PC build for GTA VI for PC in 2 years
These are nice gains when gaming on a 4090, 1080p low settings. But what about a real world scenario?? Something like a 3080 at 1440p with high/max settings? I like watching fairy tales, too, but I doubt there’s that many people with a 4090 gaming at 1080p low settings.
@GamersNexus The 9800X3D looks like a Beast, however I can’t help but notice that your 7950X3D performance is horrible and doesn’t match @Hardwareunboxed on their 14 Game average the top 3 CPU’s were the 9800X3D, 7800X3D and 7950X3D, I get it the 7950X3D is a Pain to get the Core parking to work, but when it does its performance is much better than your data indicates, FYI, I have the 7950X3D and RTX 4090 and its great…I’m looking forward to the 9950X3D release…..Back to you Steve!
Thing is who buys a 4090 and a high end CPU to play at 1080p? When you hit 4K and 1440p, the gap closes significantly and in 4K nearly non-existent due to the GPU.
well i know what i’m getting for black friday. cmon microcenter don’t let me down!
Wondering if I should get the 9800X3D or wait for the other 9000X3D cpus.
Thoughts?
Great cpu. Still hoping for maybe another 7800x3d price drop. Maybe even a 7700x3d release eventually
the only thing that sucks about these reviews is that they are made with high end equipment.. like the 4090, is that the most common GPU? so it wont give me a real life review..
Performance gained for people that dont play 1080p low on a 4090: ZERO
“I’ve reached the end of my sports knowledge”
I believe the sportsball terminology you were looking for was they were heading toward a “power play home run” which results in higher strokes, and as we all know, bigger number more bigger better.
Back to you Steve
Truly RIP Intel!
Intel has to go back to redesigning a completely new design architecture, like what AMD did ~8 years ago with Zen.
Looks like Arrow Lake is a dud. Not QUITE as much of a dud as the 11 series, but yeah. I hope Intel gets their stuff together and makes something good again. We need the competition.
Core Ultra is Intel 11th gen all over again, it seems.
For Baldur’s gate 3 its simply taking advantage of the extra Vcache FREQUENCY as the core frequency is tied to it so increase core frequency you increase the cache frequency
Who really cares about slightly more power usage or anything if it’s better performance
the only way intel could compete with gaming anymore is by adding more cache to their CPUs, but they refuse to do that because it might intrude on their server parts
I see a review with total war warhammer 3 as a benchmark, I click.
Would love to see some VR cpu performance metrics in the future.
When he said how far back your upgrading from shows a R5 2600 and im sitting here on a 1600x like should i upgrade yet.
I have a 7950X3D for software development and fun. The unexpected uplift of the 9800X3D over the 9700X in code compile makes me very interested in the 9950X3D benchmarks. If AMD puts 3D V-Cache on both CCDs (as has been rumored) this could actually exceed my 20% threshold for upgrading.
Ive heard rumors of an X3d version of the 9950 and threadripper… If that happens I’d love to see how they stack up.
WANT
So at 1440p we might get a 1-3% uplift at most 🤔 . Temps is a bonus but higher power use . Might stick with the 7800x3d for now
Those Baldur’s Gate 3 numbers absolutely flabbergast me, that’s incredible
AMD cpus progression makes sense. Intel has made a part that is generational and not user oriented, and which should have been an engineering demo imho.
Why Intel let this Tech Jesus coocked
Those 7950X3D results look they come from CCD 1 being used as opposed to CCD 0.
That looks like non-3D V Cache performance, and this is the only channel I’ve seen a 7950X3D underperform so massively that it doesn’t sit with its X3D brothers, and in some cases is even outperformed by Intel.
Edit: Many of the charts show your 7950X3D performing in line with a 7700x in gaming and, in some cases, being outperformed by a 7950x without 3D V Cache.
That doesn’t make sense.
There’s no way you’re utilizing the die with 3D V Cache.
Can finally upgrade from my i9-9900K that’s bottlenecking my RTX 4090 even at 4K!
all im learning is my $130 5700x3d is an absolutely insane deal
Please do a comparison between 9800x3d and 7800x3d when both are power limited
Probably the New 3d V cache v2 has improved sure at speed cause always in Ryzen cpus run at same speed as core frequency but the secret improved you need to investigate its they moved 3d V cache so close to the cores totally different from previous 3d V-cache where was at the center of the CCX and had distance from the cores, that’s move probably improve the 3d v cache L3/core latency and that’s why we see that incredible 1% Lows Fps in any review..
Im a little annoyed this is coming out already as I just bought the 7900x3d when it came out this spring. They better have new Graphics cards coming out right away then to
no cs2 benchmark? unlucky…
G’day Steve,
🤔I think with your analogy for where we are at in 2024 you where trying to say…
“with the Score at 15/Love after last Gen 14000 vs 7000 AMD fumbled original 9000 release, then intel where run out as they slamdunked an own goal in one over the finishline with Ultra & AMD has dropkicked a last second field goal with 9800X3D” 😂😂😂😂😂
Just what I could think of off the top of my head but Happy for people to add their favourite games too 🙃👎
Tennis
American Football

nice, can’t wait to upgrade my 5600x to a 5700x3d
Please do a comprehensive update video. Seems like I missed a lot. When latest generation Intel launched all the talk was RIP AMD and when the 9k series launched it was even more “these are junk not enough performance improvement” etc.
How is amd suddenly winning across the board when I was told the opposite was true a few months ago by seemingly everyone ???
Steve talked so much about how large the BG3 uplift was and I still was not ready for it. I really hope that Valve looks into having the Steam Deck 2 be powered by an X3D chip.
Donald Trump is coming back as POTUS to rescue us from the money in our wallet via tarrifs that will hurt China To make it all better.
Unlike that Biden guy that raised our taxes and made things more expensive which is totally unacceptable and I could never support such behavior unless it’s a tarrif or a wall because everyone knows China pays for tarrifs and Mexico pays for walls
Is there ever going to be a reason for me to move on from my 5800x3D?
*Shake Shake*
Magic 8 Ball Says: Not in the lifetime of x86
I’ve held on to my Ryzen 1600X for so long that the mobo is dying, but I think this is the time!
Please reroll Intels performance, Steve! We need better competition… Consumers only lose if one company pulls ahead too much… *cough* Nvidia *cough*
it’s been rip intel for awhile
Does the Ryzen 7 9800X3D use a Am4 and Am5 motherboards?
Make a 9900x3d I will never use pedestrian 8 cores again 12+ only
I don’t play DND but damn those dice look good
Intel should create their own X3D chip equivalent, but instead of boosting gaming performance, it would increase productivity performance instead. All creators would buy that kind of chip.
26:53 Steve losing his breath lol
Thank you for including FF14, as that is my primary game! psyched to get rid of this pits 114k, and go amd 9800x3d!
Why no Ryzen 5950x? I’m left wondering where I LAND ON THE CHART
That random critical fail dice roll lightened up my day a little
No competition prices will be jacked up if you find it at MSRP please share
The one decent cpu this year… welcome back scalpers!
I’m *really* curious for the 9950x3d now.
I really love your videos :]
Why would buy a 285k if youra gamer. Its almost twice of the 14700k here lmao and no better. Intel new gen isn’t a flop really
conclusion from the video: intel done fucked up. goodbye intel
Wish you talked more about gaming above 1080p
It would be nice to get the “end turn time” for TWWH3 instead of fps. That’s generally what bottlenecks gameplay.
I’m so grateful that I can’t discern a difference above around 150 FPS. Leaves plenty of money for the beer budget.
CACHE ME OUTSIDE HOW BOUT DAT
Thx for covering 4X/strategy games.
Would love to see a Factorio Megabase or large colony in Oxygen Not Included in your benchmarks.
My guess is that those games would love a CPU like the 9800X3D.
35% GAP is INSANE TBF
Remember how we smashed the FX8350, it was only 10-15% slower than the i7 3770k 😳
Damnmit. Im making the switch back to AMD
With these improvement, it makes me hopeful for the performance of the Ryzen 9 9900X3D and the 9950X3D.
So, basically, AMD’s X3D is at least 3 generations ahead of any of Intel’s flagship desktop processors. I’m not even sure what to say haha.
Sad to see Intel’s fall. They were my go to for many years
9800x3d ia a monster, but 4K gaming will eliminate difference between 9800x3d and 7800x3d – GPU is a bottleneck anyway.
Umm, at 14:20 I believe you forgot to add “Core” to the name of the “Intel Ultra 9 285K DDR5-8600 APO OFF”. Without the Core, I’m not really sure what processor you’re talking about.
Intel inside still means something to me , watch your mouth.
Intel rolls a 1…. LMFAO… Congratulations Intel, your adventuring days are over because you just shot an arrow into your knee…🤣🤣🤣
2:20 Yo this is actually SO SICKKKK
I cant believe how well AM4 5800X3D still performs
I have a 7950x3d and a 4090 playing at 4k. I am assuming the gains from upgrading here would be insignificant?
The 9800x3d is the 4090 of CPUs. God tier.
If only AMD had this kind of focused market domination with their GPUs
Going from a 9700k to the 9800x3d is going to hit like crack
Do you recomand air cooler or aio for the new ryzen 7 9800x3d ?
5700x3d is the true champ. $180 US right now and within 5% of anything out there
1440p? 2160p? Where?
Thanks Steve!
I got my 7800x3d for ~400 Canadian or about 500 after insanity tax. I’m glad I bought in when I did!
I’m always amused and dismayed by GN prices because woof they do not cleave to the Canada situation ever. Thanks Turdeau.
This gives me hope that it may be time to build the new pc
I hate that my car got wrecked by a raccoon right before the dice dropped. I hope I can recoup enough money to buy them soon.
I’ll be upgrading to the 9800X3D from an i7-8700k. It has served me well over the years.
Jufus at Framechasers will be crying in his cornflakes!
This isn’t quite fast enough vs my 5800x3d to get me to upgrade just yet, but maybe Zen 6 x3d will be when I upgrade….
Can’t wait to see how this affects the 9950X3D
NGL……im tempted to get one.
Today is a good day.
Because I’m a cheap bastard I’m still gonna wait for black friday sales and hope that doesn’t bite me in the ass with price INCREASES. I seriously doubt this chip will be on any kind of sale, but if the 7900x3d go on firesale, might be worth considering. Or a nice bundle with a good motherboard and/or ram pops up.
at this point im slightly worried about intel literally just not providing competition for amd. wadu hek
no one cares about 1080p when you’re spending this much money on cpus
Ironically, there might be an AMD/Intel merger in the future.. which is crazy to me.
Might be time to replace my 9700k
I hope the 9950X3D has V-Cache for each CCD.
Intel fanboys will still buy Intel lol
Trump even made cpus great again
Ok, this will go into my daughter’s PC!
Now, if only the RadeOn department could deliver a banger like this… 😛
3080, 9600k -> 9800x3d upgrade vs 4080 upgrade?
So officially INTEL didn’t make gaming CPUs anymore , they just sell an HEDT platform without enough PCI lanes !! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
What about RAM?
Is the best RAM speed still 6000 mhz? The latest X870 and X870E mb support up to 8000. I would really like to see another video talk about RAM speeds and the optimal one (I do know not all boards support 8000, which is why I want to know if it even matters before buying a new one (upgrading from my trusty i5 8600K).
good cpu bit pricey and its early day so let see how things go shall we and to be fair the new intel cpu have had sum issues but thats all cpu here guys so lets not forget that and cheaper too so thats my option
This is not a leap, its a freakin Spacejump lift.
That copper inductor in the dice… umm… Wouldn’t that “load” the dice by throwing the weight out of balance. Surely you can’t use that in a game. It looks nice, but I wouldn’t trust it.
At 26:36 how come the 5600x is slower than a 3600 at chromium compile?
I bought my 7800x3D For $350 Is good to see that in some years ill get to upgrade to something even better than the current 9800x3D
This may have already been said, but if you want a heavy benchmark for processors try Star Citizen, it’s completely CPU bound at almost any resolution.
do 1440p and 4k gaming …1080p useless
Wow 9800x3d is a monster! It destroys everything!
As long as AMD doesn’t drop the ball on release like other manufacturers, for 2 “generations”.
The 5800X3D is impossible to find anywhere for a fair price now..
Recognizing that 1080p exaggerates the differences, any chance we could get at least one run at 4K to see if there’s any separation at all? suspect most gamers buying a $500 CPU will be gaming at higher resolutions.
Those dice and wooden boxes are amazing!
With the redesign of the 9800x3d, would cpu coolers behave differently?
Those die testing killed me. Lol, that’s how you do sponsored section in a video.
STOP testing CPUs at 1080p. Worthless. Only 4k.
Yeah I’m keen on this, waiting for CES for the new mid range boards is all.
9700x looks good
who is gaming at 1080p with a $500 cpu? 1080p needs to not be the standard benchmark. 1080p is a 25 year old tech. Lets at least make the standard benchmark 1440p
What good are these reviews for us gamers? The high FPS 1080p numbers only gain AMD and their sales
I don’t get why you GN do this when Linus talks about the bigger picture.
Would there be any performance uplifts at higher resolutions?
Very impressive from AMD, I think this is finally the CPU that gets me to jump to AM5 from my 12600K.
Good to see how freakishly better this is than my 5800X (non-3D).
Certainly is looking like a good time to upgrade.
W
actually seeing a stellaris benchmark is great considering how much i play that game, thats why i upgraded to a 5800x3d in the first place, that much of an improvement is something for me to consider upgrading, thanks!
I thought this was supposed to be better than the 7800x3d
Well the new intels are nor bad for production but a disappointment for gaming
Any news about Ryzen 9000s without X?
always happy to c a good product launch an dim glad I have something to upgrade to when I feel like it.
But, who plays at 1080p with a 4090? XD
Were the 9950 tested with the latest microcode?
Never noticed before – is that the back of a K6-2 used to stand it up in the intro shot LOL
Can’t wait for 11800x3D
I wonder if an eco tweak on 9800X3D would score this CPU as the most power-efficient.
Since the chip is so good. Demand is going to be high which will make the price higher
34:21 😂
I understand this is a day 1 embargo lift review, and therefore it would be incredibly hard to include more charts of the data I would like to see.
But only having 1080p with rtx 4090 gaming benchmark charts can be unintentionally misleading to the less cautious or younger viewers.
I think this review should have included a disclaimer reminding viewers that the gaming benchmarks shown are with a gpu more powerful than most people are going to use, and that 1080p resolution is losing popularity rapidly with how cheap 1440p high refresh rate panels have become. Viewers should also consider that 1440p and higher results would likely show that any modern cpu is not likely to be a significant bottleneck in most games even when paired with an rtx 4090.
Admittedly every reviewer I have watched review the 9800x3d also stopped giving this kind of information, I think we as a community have become too accustomed to the current style of cpu reviews and we try to keep things exciting instead of tempering everyone’s real world expectations.
what about call of duty, check more games plz
Me sitting here with a 9700k which is degrading, and my previous cpu was an 8400. I’m so far behind that they don’t even make the chart haha. But this is good, my next update will be massive. Always been with Intel, time to switch to AMD on my next build. Thank you very much for all the work you and your team do!! It’s so nice to have credible resources like you.
You don’t buy a $500 CPU with a 4090 to play in 1080p, all these tests are just marketing, except those of Linus..
I don’t drink. I don’t weld. But I do play DnD. Might have to pick up a set to support this excellent journalism.
Thanks, Steve!
I love you but it’s a shame even if it will be very small difference but it’s a CPU we will use at 4k usually or even 1440p so I would have loved some charts for 4k ultra graphics to see how it performs
So how will the Peerless Assassin 120 pair with this? I know it was great with 7800x3d, need to upgrade cooler too?
Just imagine when AMD figures out how to get both CCDs able to access the 3D V-Cache in the x900 and x950 X3D CPUs.
Those framerates are absolutely terrible for the best gpu on the market wtf are this devs doing instead of optimizing the games??
what i am interested is that case in the back , finally some motherboard and case innovation for cables
because I don’t play games is it good for Content creation or should I find something else
As or if demand increases for AMD the prices will increase too. AMD will not be able to remain “cheap”. Supply and demand.
98w though performance is a bit low for something that power hungry 😂
All your test are at 1080 lol try 4k, 285 perform better at higher res
Not watchung, but I appreciate your work. It’s very very tasteless, to slag Intel after this fucking election! They are probably out of business because of that…… who gives a fuck if AMD is ringing a few more frames out of Zen 5%?!!! I respect your work, and your channel, but not this timing though…. HUB is not American, but I can say the same for them.
The 5700X3D quietly winning near the top with its cheap 200$ price compared to systems more than double the price
Intel is not optimazed for gaming yet, it’s actually a much better cpu
some time in the future ill be saying “and i remember when intel released some defective engineering prototypes onto the market and pretended they are real product!” r.i.p. 200 series
I know you want to review to show the difference in processors, and I know not many people have a 4090 and play at 4k or higher resolution. I still wish you would do at least a very short segment on fps / 1% low difference for playing at least one game, say baldurs gate, at 4k and ultrawide. Not many of us play at 4k but I think the amount of people who do is growing. I still have no idea if I would see an increase in fps if I built a new system over my 12900k.
Please consider adding some very popular esports games to the CPU tests, as those are exactly the scenarios where you’d need very high FPS. Like League of Legends, Valorant, CS2, Fortnite, etc. Also, Path of Exile is the most popular ARPG game, I bet many would be interested about what gains could be made on upgrading the CPU alone.
I am more amazed how well the 5k series Ryzens are doing. I mean for that many generations old, they are holding up, especially the X3D series.
I hope AMD makes a pretty good 9900X3D or 9950X3D. The benefits of X3D CPUs would be pretty nice but I am prioritizing processing power for productivity over gaming the next time I upgrade.
I want the GN crew to benchmark my life, to find the bottleneck and see where i can improve c: .
Ok, now that X3D has filled the gap with its non-3dv-cache siblings, what’s the point of still making the ones without?
for the new chart I would love to see just a simplified version of for each game, the price should be X to match performance per dollar
Too bad you guys removed both 5900x and 5950x from charts it would be nice if you left at least one of them on the chart.
But it looks like finally a worthy upgrade from 5900X, sort of.
A bit hard to tell but looks like not losing any performance in production benchmarks vs 9800X3D and gaining about 50% performance in gaming.
I think I’ll keep it until next gen, but cool stuff.
!?
Brilliant review. I want more sport analogies going forward! 😄
Thanks for doing all this work for us.
Okay what the actual fuck AMD. This is not the 7% they said it would have over 7800X3D. HOW DO THEY KEEP GETTING IT SO WRONG
When it was the non 3D it was 12-14% than 9-11 than 7% and they finally settled to 5% in “their internal testing”
Thanks Steve!
Just imagine how this monster cpu is numberous compared to my Intel 2500k 😅
Why no system idle wattage?
Has extra cashe, costs extra cash. Still, good product happy to use it earlier next year.
Gn is best!
Why is the 7950X3D performing so poorly in these tests compared to other testers? Not seeing anyone else show the 7950X3D regularly beaten in gaming by the 7950X?
…I’m not going to be able to find a 9800x3d tomorrow, am I? 🙁
Intel is not dead to me.
Intel can’t compete in gaming right now? For who? People that need 300 FPS? 😂
Having the choice, I still would have went with the open box 13700k I got a month ago for $230. I would wait for this to come down in price and that would be like a year from now at least. So I will probably end up skipping both companies new chips.
There’s a chance that Intel makes a comeback before I’m ready to upgrade anyway.
Current 7700x user, i was looking forward to the 9800x3d, but in 4K im completely GPU bound. The cpu makes almost no difference. Gonna hold off for now I guess
I’d like to see a comparison of the 7800X3D and the 9800X3D locked to the same power budget. So far, all we know is that the 9800 is a 7800 with the clocks and power budget tweaked upward. We have no evidence of any impact from the altered infrastructure in the layers, unless we can compare them with all the same specs matching.
Thanks! Great info! Based on the absence of race sims from the FPS metrics, would it be safe to assume they don’t push the GPU as hard as the games you used for testing?
Thanks for the extremely well rounded testing suite. I hope MSFS24 makes it on the testing charts, as MSFS20 already is great for CPU benchmarks
Intel is looking like Dicaprio on the Titanic.
So which of these benchmarks shows me the *single core* performance as compared to AMD’s competition? That’s the one thing that dictates *everything* I do in gaming so it’s the *only* thing I care about.
Buh buh muh productivity- userbenchmarks.
We have a new king!
I wish their GPU department had the same confidence.
Arg. As a game playing software developer it always seems I need two machines. One day we’re going to get a CPU that aces gaming and compilation speed.
Um so why isn’t a single review video showing gaming performance above 1080 resolution? We know the Ryzen CPUs even the 7000series perform best ar this resolution but worse than intel at 1440 resolution and above. So what sort of propaganda is going on here? Show us the benchmark results of 2K resolution and above!
I’m definitely not upgrading anytime soon, got my 7800X3D for $350 with free ram
Isn’t it a bit of an issue that your dice aren’t balanced?
the first experimental chart is really difficult to understand at first glance and for me in europe, with different electricity costs and currencey, not as useful.
Better buy these CPUs fast, before the tariffs kick in.
The compression and decompression tests are really nice, but I don’t think you’re properly selling the impact. Compression is used under the hood absolutely everywhere to the point that speed gains there can be thought of as general load time reductions.
Love it!
Now I know what im getting for my new PC build, thanks Steve.
5950x?
Rainbow SixSiege is back in the charts !
What ever I don’t pay 500 quid for 8 cores
Should have connected the inductors to an led and resistor in series with the led so you could do inductive lights would have been nice with the clear plastic to shine through, maybe a rev 2 , and it does not rely on the precision of the inductor either, so you’re good with the e-waste inductors
5600X user, time for an upgrade!
start using rust for cpu benchmarks
Thats an interesting Value chart. I suspect the value a FPS is non linear and curves based on the user and their rig. To be accurate it would have to factor when gpu bottleneck occurs for that users resolution. That could be fun to model since you guys probably have all the data from your many reviews.
“shoelaces became unglued” 🤣
No cyberpunk test? Wtf
34:21 Great explanation!
AMD continue to develop “Advanced Marketing” relationships with select youtubers with the obvious aim of compensating for second tier products with first tier marketing. PC gamers considering a 9800X3D CPU need to work on their critical thinking skills: Influencers are paid handsomely to promote overpriced niche products (X3D, EPYC, Threadripper etc.). Rational gamers have little reason to look further than the $300 245KF which offers comparable real-world gaming and better desktop performance at a fraction of the price.
Hopefully this die change means amd might go x3d only on all chips going forward
If those dice don’t sell-out in less than a day, I’d be very surprised. You guys do great work with your merch as you always do with your content. Thank you.
Im new to PC building. I wanted to know why you do your test in 1080p and not 4k? I saw a comment that say its because in 4k the GPU is more important. But I will be curious to see the difference of the 7800x3d and 9800x3d in 4k. Thank you for your great work!
I’m disappointed. I’d like to see more cores and threads at the consumer level. E.g., 64 cores, 128 threads – $399. It doesn’t cost that much more in materials. I also want to see the 900,000 core chip by Cerebras AI.
Mind blowing that an 5+ zen cpu only does it BARELY better than an Zen3 cpu (5800x3D) 🤯
Did you make a hexagon shaped dice set knowing that there is a company who apparently has the trademark on hexagonal dice boxes for some reason?
You know, I wouldn’t mind seeing you testing some of those community mods for things like Total Warhammer sometime. Maybe as something on GN Extra, just to see how much better it can be.
I hope they have a good amount of stock on release. I’m thinking I may finally upgrade. This cpu should help with MH:Wilds performance.
I’ll be much more interested when you release 1440p comparisons.
I used to prefer intel for decades but over the last 5-6 years…. there’s just no defence anymore, they used to have really good cheap options when AMD tried to push into premium, and they were also more stable for the longest time for non tech savvy people but lately….. nope… ruined those reasons also
Here I’ll help with the American football analogy. AMD fumbled the ball and gave up a turnover in their own zone. Intel then threw an interception and AMD ran it back to mid field. Then on the next play, AMD handed it off to their star running back, #98, “X3D”, who ran all the way down the field and scored a touchdown from the 50 yard line. 🏈
The only thing i’m getting from these charts is that if all i want is 60fps i am still mostly just fine staying on 5600X.
Upgrade from 13700k to 9800x3d?
“So the 98 is the 78 with efficiency sacrified” is what I had in mind first … but they did change the physical structure of the cache, so I guess I can’t call them just “the same chip”. Good.
Why is this a 7 9800X3d instead of a 9 9800X3d
I know that you guys spend a lot of time on these tests already but for a gaming CPU I feel like more tests would’ve helped a lot
My excitement will be on hold till we see the advertised price. This CPU makes sense at MSRP, but if it is going to spike above that, then it loses it’s value proposition quickly.
15:37 So the solution would be don’t let the 7800x3D change the frequency? Maybe keep it clocked high?
Idk but those inconsistencies seems to have always been there… with the drunk 7800x3D doing weird things with frequency
Good luck buying one … it’s gonna be scooped by scalpers instantly just like 2020
anyone knows how available they will be? Or how long till the average EU consumer can get one?
I think Gamers Nexus and Hardware Unboxed should swap channel names.
Finally a cpu worth considering a generational update. Until now we haven’t seen one of those since the 7800x3d.
Lol, so do all you techTubers just get together now and decide exactly what time to upload your videos?
I would appreciate cs2 and valorant to be added one day to the benchmarks. This being said, ty for siege!
Those gains are ridiculous. I’m on a 7800X3D, and this encourages me when the 10800X3D, or whatever, comes out as a good upgrade path.
Do you think you’ll be recommending Intel 12th gen as the gaming CPU to get, once the 60% tariffs hit early next year, and impact all of AMD’s CPUs, and Intel’s modern ones?
Bought a 14700K and happy with it, even with all the drama (yet to see any issues, fingers crossed) mainly for clock speeds with flight sims, and easy in-place upgrade of Windows. Next upgrade will definitely be an AMD though, hopefully both CPU and GPU, and ditch Intel/Nvidia.
If I was looking to upgrade now, without a shadow of doubt or hesitation, I’d be buying the 9800x3D. What an absolute unit. AMD is killing it there. Now hopefully they can release a competitive GPU too.
CRITICAL FAILURE
Great Video as always
This almost feels like AMD misjudged the performance of Arrow Lake to be way higher and thought it needed to counter a monster CPU which, it turns out, doesn’t exist.
I’m not used to getting 30% generational performance uplift, when 10 or even 5% would’ve been sufficient to beating the competition. I guess AMD will adjust the price heavily upwards to match their performance advantage.
AMD going for a jugular… oh wait, intels already dead.
Not 1 single core test? looks a bit like cherry picking
What motherboard was used for this testing?
Been waiting months for this video. Glad to see at least one of the CPUs this cycle didn’t have stagnation.
Oooh, maybe it’s finally time to upgrade from my i7 3470 !
Anyone buying a new Intel CPU in 2024 for gaming is a straight up masochist. 9800X3D is going to be sold out for the next year probably.
We’re not going to be able to buy this at the $480 MSRP, right?
Hey GN team,
I noticed you guys got wildly different results on the 7950X3D vs the 7800X3D in your testing compared to Hardware Unboxed. Could someone explain the difference?
Example on Starfield:
https://youtu.be/BcYixjMMHFk?t=1009
7:04 You switched the AVG VID around to VID AVG to mess with us, right?
I’m sold, thank you GN!!!!!!!
It’s almost like this 9800x3d came from a different department in AMD, the way this release has been handled. 🤪
Please add CS2 next time, the gamers that buy X3Ds the most are Valorant and CS2 players.
I was this 🤏 close to buying a 7950x3d. 9000 series 16 core I’ll assume is worth the wait.
So…is it confirmed the 7800x3d is officially unusable garbage now?
what a slaughter!
AMDDD wins again
Steve approves = Must…get….9800X3D
Can the big difference in BG3 be explained by AVX-512 + higher clock speeds?
We need Steve to bench mark touch downs per hr on a NFL team now lol 😂
If im rocking a i7 9700 kf with a 4080 super, would this CPU be a good upgrade?
love me some price per unit charts
Also visually the % improvement comparisosn is a lot easier than the fps thing
Is that 14900k average FPS closer to the 9800X3D’s 1% low than its average in BG3?! Whoa 😳
It’s crazy. Why buy intel when you can choose a 5700x3d or 9800x3d or any X3D
It’s the TRUMP of CPU’s!!!
Davinci Resolve testing please, many people moved away from Premier and their bullshit.
The fact the 5800X3D still sits near the top of these charts is just insane to me. But its also probably hurting AMDs sales now because why would you upgrade from it anytime soon?
CS2 benchmark please 🙂
I am buying a 9800x3d. The last amd cpu i had was the amd athalon. Looks like a worthy upgrade from my 12700k.
12:26 This data doesn’t seem right. How is the 7950X3D performing so much worse than the 7800X3D? The X3D cores on the 7950X3D are practically the same cores as the 7800X3D. Actually, the X3D cores on the 7950X3D boost higher than the 7800X3D! I’m thinking you didn’t have the correct chipset & driver from AMD installed / game bar set up to manage core parking correctly in games. Without that set up, performance absolutely tanks in games on the 7950X3D due to core parking/scheduling issues.
It’s nice to see a decent launch for the first time in two years. Great work as always, GN team!
only question is will the 9900X3D and/or 9950X3D perform even better, because the 7900 and 7950 X3D’s should have been faster on paper if not for the task scheduler snafu.
You do have to wonder whether putting the cache on the bottom of the stack has made it so that they can run the cores at the same clocks as the non-stacked parts, and therefore they may be able to put V-cache on both dies for the 9900X3D and 9950X3D, which may actually make those parts interesting. It may still be too expensive to do it that way, but at least now the “one die can clock higher and the other can take advantage of more cache” argument is gone from a technical perspective.
US elections, german goverment breaking and 9800X3D the same day. What a time to be alive
Bring back the 1440p and 4k tests. Gamers interested in gamer-targetted CPUs need to see performance tests that are a realistic representation of their actual use case.
I don’t care if a shiny new and expensive CPU gets 69% more performance 1080p/low so I just end up skipping to the productivity benchmarks 😢
Pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease include 1-2 1440p/4K benchmarks at relevant settings (> medium) to put things in perspective. You do in some CPU benchmarks and not others and I have no idea why.
Do you believe Win11 would be needed for these improvements as hopefully I recall this correctly but for the 9k none x3d the performance was practically the same until a test update from windows was pushed
If Intel was still improving at same rate per generation like post Sandy Bridge days they would need about 8 generations and 12 years to catch up with this AMD today.
i need to build a new PC, do you know if we will get the 9900x3D and 9950x3D in January? tysm…i would like to go for one of those 2
Beve Struke your amazing.
Thank you for still including the 3700x benchmarks.
As I’ve seen the old “node difference” argument repeatet in the comments again and again: This embarrassing loss is squarely on Intel themselves. Period. Yes, there is still a node advantage at play here – but it’s in Intel’s favor of all things. They’re on TSMC N3B for their ARL compute tile, AMD is on TSMC N4P for theirs. They’re evenly matched on their I/O with TSMC N6. The differences between Zen5(X3D) and ARL are not really determined by node, and if they were, this should work out in Intel’s favor.
thanks for the pricing analysis, it kinda shows that if shortage of the last 3D chips werent ongoing, the pricing that the 7800x3d was at at january 2024 (that was around 350) would have make this new chip way less appealing. amd was probably ingenious to stop producing said old chip sooner to make sure their new product wasnt too much in competition with their last. now though, at 480 msrp, its not like amd exaggerate too much either.
Thanks for the detailed review.
The 9800X3D really is king. However, I am sad that the 7800X3D was basically removed from the market. A friend got a 7800X3D for 299€. Nothing can beat that value.
Intel on a pile of broken AMD chips is simply hilarious LOLOL
Wow, Intel isn’t the company I grew up with anymore.
hey steve, have y’all looked at doing 1440p and 4k testing now that the 1080p results are going way beyond even the highest refresh rates on the market?
You guys ever think about charting Star Citizen just for Shiz n Giggles? I know they throw out patches so often its nearly impossible as perf changes patch to patch and day to day but it would be a fun nerdy video for some.
Nerd sports analogies are the best.
I would have expected the 9800x3d to be as power efficient or better than the 7800x3d, seems the 30w extra does not really meet the performance improvements. ill keep my 7800x3d and wait for zen6 then.
These charts look like the 3090 review charts.
Intel was already RIP, people somehow forgot about it, AMD has always been on top “lately”
At some point a video on the pro’s and con’s of each x3d chip might come in handy. Especially for those new to computer building.
I get the reason to benchmark CPUs at 1080p as this assures the bottleneck is at the CPU but why no 4K benchmarks? 4K is where almost any gamer with this CPU will be gaming.
Intel has gone from “burning their chips” straight into the dumpster fire! 😂
ahhh keep sucking off AMD. max oc both and intel wins but whatever
AMD could also screw up the launch by discontinuing gaming GPUs… oh… right…
Let’s all just take a couple minutes to appreciate Steve and everyone else at GN for rerunning probably the majority of these tests making sure there wasn’t anything they OR other reviewers were doing differently. Seeing that BG3 test I probably would have been thinking the same thing. Absolutely nuts. I was expecting these kind of absolutely generational uplifts with the 9000 series but I guess they were saving the best for last? Can we confirm whether or not these are due to the 3d cache being on the bottom or how windows is scheduling it? I kind of think its the cache being moved but I could be wrong. Even when looking at 7800x3d vs 9800x3d those gains are not just a slight gen shift and mhz boost right.
Is this CPU appropriate for non-professional productivity tasks such as programming and basic video and photo editing?
it’s a shame you dont include benchmarks of CAD programs like solidworks or fusion 360 which is free and has a lots of users…
Honestly I kind of wonder if AMD didn’t design Zen 5 for the X3D CPU’s. The normal Zen 5 CPU’s were, lets be honest, meh, but the 9800X3D definitely makes up for it!! Great review as always Steve!
If ARC Battlemage is a flop, start shorting Intel stock!
So what was the point in me buying the 9950x ???
Really appreciate the testing you do.
Im just curious why is the 7950x3d performance so bad in gaming as i remeber it being higher in hardware unboxed’ 285k review.
AMD has come a long way from FX-8000 series
At those prices, 5700x3d-gaming VFM- and those with 58x3d can easily pass the AM5..
A factorio benchmark would be intresting (as it really stresses the ram to see if x3d would help out)
* Not RIP yet. This CPU is for GAMES only.
Intel is actually screwed
That new value bar chart is so much more confusingly presented than if you just wrote the number of dollars that give value parity.
“Golf hole” I couldn’t have said it better myself! 👍
Consider adding a arrow pointing towards the direction that is better on your charts to make it easier to tell witch is better. (eg facing left when lower is better)
holy cow the 0.1% improvements 😳😳😳😳
I love factory and sim games but it seems like absolutely no-one includes them in benchmarks… I’ve heard through the grapevine that X3D CPUs excel in these games, games like Cities Skylines, Factorio, Dyson Sphere Program, Satisfactory, Stellaris etc. Yet I struggle to find anyone testing with anything but Stellaris which shows excellent improvements…
Thanks, Steve!
You`re still taking the piss out of other creators (Linus and his screwdriver comes to mind), yet you sell 90$ dice. What are you smoking ?! :)))
7800x3d to 9800x3d be like. You have become a far greater cpu than I ever hope to be. Good by old friend, may the processing be with you.
While I agree that yes, it’s the gaming king, who is gaming at 1080p? Show us the numbers for 4k vs. a wide range of processors.
AMD the KING for gaming right now!
Buy the way i still watch your videos while i paint houses well listen lol i just dont comment much but ill stay subscribed until my bank account gets decommissioned 😂
This is looking to be my next major upgrade.
I’m pissed a week ago I finished my pc build with a 7800x3d
Am I the only one who find it not really objective that only 1080p is tested with this CPU? As I think it would make little to no difference in 4K between 5800X3D and 9800X3D. And I think if you got a 4090 it’s pretty much to play at least 1440p, at best 4K. So it would have been great to see some 1440p/4K benchmark. And none of the review I saw at this time talks about 4K. Even if there is less 1440p + 4K player than 1080p player. There is at least 15% + 3% according to valve (So probably doesn’t take other editor percentage in account). Appart from that, thanks for the almost complete review! 🙂
What about 1440p tho
I knew this V cache tech was special when Microsoft put similar tech on Xbox 360, called EDO ram. I find it insane that they never put that tech on consoles ever again. If the new consoles in the future do not use AMD’s V-Cache tech, I don’t think they will be worth buying.
I have been Intel fanboy since 1990s, this last month I have switched over to a 9950x and I could not be happier!
I want to build a pc i been waiting 6 years i want a mobo that will last 15 years my 2008 build did but thats when they cared about there products now they through cap together i was going to build a amd sTrx4 or sWRX8 but i just wanted it to game and do some extensive high load rendering software do i need all that i want something that i wont have to upgrade i need a video card that wont overheat or have any problems i know u said you like the ventice i been building since amdk6 models i melted my cpu to the mobo and caught fire was awsome but my last build was in 2008 but you see how fast you talk thats why i gave up not wanting to but its crazy they upgrade to garbage half the time i dont have money to keep buying flawed parts mobos with bent pins on my 775 i felt with having 64 cores with that much cache and a 4060 or 4090 i would be oke for 15+ years i mean i like fallout 3 still and skyrim im old school but want a vr setup for skyrim but i want it to be around 4k8k i still rebuild my technics radio my brain is pretty filled with garbage i dont know what to buy anymore they make to much garbage
The photograph with the 3 companions X3D CPUs in something like a Podium is very correct as VFM products.
1st 9800X3D the new King, 2nd 7800X3D the wise old King, 3rd 5700X3D the MVP with its unbelievable price under 200 Euros, efficiency and pretty decent gaming and overall performance for the legendary AM4 platform!
My deepest condolences to Intel’s relatives advertisers and benchmark sites, Thank You GN and Steve for this video, Cheers from Greece, Jim.
A game of balls with somewhat liberal inappropriate usage of glue…
Was that a sudden Sticky Sweethearts reference?!
Why do you talk like that.
I really wanna see the 9900x3d and 9950x3d
With a 3900x… My jaw still has to get picked up from the floor at all these gains in *such a short amount of time* holyy…
The 7950X3D results hurt my soul
Ah yeah, 1080p benchmarks again. Like it’s all 480$ cpu buyers can afford. GTFO seriously, show us if there’s any meaningful impact for 1% lows at 5120×1440 or 4K
Otherwise you are deviating from your “best for consumers” mission and becoming shills like any other channel.
12:05 sorry but seeing 3 generations of X3D parts hold the top of these charts is insane. For 3 generations, AMD produced the best gaming CPU and had gains each time without Intel ever slotting inbetween. That’s damning for Intel’s engineering department…
Bonkers that two year old CPU is still rolling over most of its competition – and basically the only real competition is its successor. If the price falls to $350 it’ll still be a bargain. One I would love to finally buy once I build my own PC.
Bought a 7800x3d last year so I don’t see the point of upgrading but I liked the change they made to the cpu having the cache underneath instead of on top is a good thing.
I hope next gen will continue to be as good.
I love all these reviews that keep vindicating my 5800x3d. 🙂
Surely intel has something up their sleeve right? ……..right?
11:50 why does the 5600X3D outperform the 5700X3D in FFXIV? Comparing this graph to the FFXIV graph in the 5700X3D review video, how did the 14900k go from beating the X3D chips by a large margin to underperforming them? This graph is fishy.
At 19:00 you say the 13700k isn’t actually faster than the 14700k, but the .1% low was 10% better, surely that indicates some sort of advantage? I tend to care more about the lows since I don’t play games on ugly medium settings.
“Bulldozer” would actually be a fitting name for AMD architectures these days, damn!
AMD claims CFD applications (Openfoam / Ansys Fluent) benefit greatly from the extra x3d cache. It would be great to see some more technical productivity workloads being tested. Thanks for good review!
Will the price on 7800x3d go down, if so how much?
given the rise of davinci resolve usage due to adobe being… well adobe, would you consider adding a davinci resolve benchmark? we only have pugit bench to go off of which are amazing but its only a single source.
i wanna see crazy oc’s on this
maybe destroying intel’s future efforts as well lol
Jfc wasn’t expecting such huge uplifts in gaming
Intel is still better in Adobe Premiere because of the hardware encoders. I don’t game much these days anymore unfortunately so I guess Intel would be better for me.
Could you at least thow in some 1440p and 4K tests just to make it complete? Why is everyone only showing 1080p performance??? I know 4K bottlenecks on the gpu almost always, but just add one test to show 1440p/4K please.
More cash,
or is that more cache?
your reviews are becoming more like AMD ads and you are loosing objectivity.
RAM used?
I’m glad I understand sports, it made this tech review more relatable and intuitive.
I still have RYZEN 717000 thaty i got i n 2017 because since i got ssd in 2020(MP 600 2TB WRITE:4950MB/S READ:4250MB/S) it loads evrythign in 1 second(games, programs, internet movies, series). And sincei changed graphics caed in 2021 (RX 6700XT RED DEVI;) it also runs all gamees maxed 1440p 60 fps. As for windows 11 i can install them with rufus(ialready downloaded them on april and rufus). My next upgrade will be cpu ram and motherboard. The question is. Should i keep my cpu ram and motheboard utnil they die and change them then? Or get now a RYZEN 9000.
What the fuckin bullshit is 7950x3d in gaming 😀 fuck me
28:11 is like what Deadpool did to Wolverine’s grave except in a much disrespectful way
RIP Stock
Scalpers all around
Aw yeah, was hoping you guys take a shot at the Be Quiet cases that can be placed horizontally, the 600 and 900 thingamajigs. Nice to see one of the two in the background.
For those who want to game and stream on the same PC, which CPU should they get? I’m completely lost! HELP 😔
Red teams winning all over the place today! 😂
Great for new builds but given a 5800X3d it’s still not enough uplift to justify an entirely new rig for me. Sorry AMD, will be staying put for now. 🙂
noticed not much comparison for towards the ryzen 5 7600x3d, wondering if its worth selling this one and getting the 9800x3d
Intel: our mega ultra 285k super lite deluxe is the best for gaming. AMD: Hold my beer. Thanks Steve!
fk your 1080p we want 4k 2k
5:23 – It confuses many people when one is suggested over the other without explanation. The 7950X and 7950X3D are the same, one just has a larger cache available! If you use your PC for work and gaming like me, get the 7950X3D. If you strictly use your PC for work, then you won’t benefit from the extra cache unless you do video editing. So, you can save $100.
I wonder how UserBenchmark will spin this one
😢 I own the Ryzen 9 7800x3d and now I’m regretting owning it. I’m proud of AMD but also screw you for screwing me like that If yall would of released this faster I could of had this in my new pc buld
AMD said to its soldier 9800X3D, “The purpose of your life is to satisfy the gamers and piss on the grave of 285K!”
Intel deserve it.
Can I get a mobo recommendation for this processor, please?
I dont know what planet intel lives on
Finally, a CPU that isn’t a disappointment!
Userbenchmark is having a nightmare
When release. 😅
Trump wins 9800x3d delivers, all wins this week for red teams
I love when *INSERT SPORT TEAM HERE* stumbles into a Golf Hole! My favorite part of *RELEVANT SPORT* !
I can’t believe they even benchmarked their dice this is too cute😭😭
Its crazy that the top of gaming charts is stacked with AMD. This has never been the case in the last 20+ years has it?
I am so gonna get me one of those Bad Boys. Running a 5800X non 3D right now with a Radeon RX 6600 XT, 32 GB Ram. But I will take all my surplus money and get me a new system with this, definitely.
I wish they tested games in 1440p and 4K. You don’t need a 4090 and a high end cpu to game in 1080p
I love how we went from everybody acting like a doomer over Zen 5 to “we are so back” status. All that complaining from the gamer market over the previous Zen 5s when the whole time this beast CPU was on the horizon lol
Tech Jesus
Awesome. Hopefully this lights a fire under Intel’s feet and gets them to make sure next year’s 365k and 385k are real bangers. We DO NOT want AMD to get complacent and not have any real competition in the long run. It’ll be bad for consumers.
My loyal 3900x is about to become my streaming PC 😇
@34:16, Intel is marketing the 285K on efficiency and AMD is more efficient in every test we’ve run!
Do you think it is worth upgrading from an i5-13600k/4090 in a VR focused gaming computer?
Interesting, we will not learn how much it draws in idle, browsing, watching videos, but at least we know how 7zip behaves, because that’s what people do all the time, because if you buy gaming CPU, you need to run it hot all the time right…
Anyway, to make it less salty – it is a good thing you compared efficiency considering score AND watts, other reviewers are unable to divide, what a joke 🙂
Sorry, im a bit confused on why the 7950x3d underperformed. Can someone illuminate me? 🙏
Intel fanboys now care a lot about 4K benchmarks all of a sudden. But when intel chips show a 5% lead at 720p, they think its natural to spend an extra $200 for the top gaming chip.
Congratulations President Trump on your stunning victory. Making CPUs great again.
You guys didn’t miss a beat for this upload! Good job Steve/GN crew!
wait are you fucking kidding me? the 9800x3d has a substantially more efficient.. Intel wow.. You wanted to be more efficient and you even failed at that – AMD didn’t even have too..
Was hoping to see a funny skit man. Missed opportunity.
Hello steve why is ryzen 7950x3D doing so bad in gaming?
Thanks Steve
Drop the 59 sec adds, FFS don’t be greedy.
Thanks Steve!
Better snap them up before tariffs go into effect. A 10-30% increase in prices across the board.
Dear silicon lords! This reminds me of the Athlon XP era domination, which I’d almost lost hopes of witnessing once again, especially after those brutal Bulldozer years! Making a beast of a gaming CPU has always been inside AMD’s DNA, it’s that they always manage to shoot themselves in the foot – look how they messed-up the launch of non-X3D parts! Hopefully we’ll be able to see what Zen5 is truly capable of with upcoming 9950X3D.
Is there a way to see what the 9800x3ds framerate would be if limited to the same power draw as the 7800x3d? Or what the power draw would be if you limited them to the same fps? Or is that a useless comparison?
Team red 🔥🔥😎
So is it fair to say Zen5 cores are actually great, but are done a great disservice by the IO die on standard parts? Seems that way.
who would buy 285k for 630$ + whole new motherboard and cudimms
I was *so mad* at Intel for so long for their purposeful stagnation and price gouging. I think this is the turning point where I actually start to feel bad for them. But AMD is still over here offering innovation and value so I’m still going with them. Upgrading my PC when the next generation GPUs are released, and this will be the CPU for it.
amd win
9800X3D, what a chip you are!
Best motherboard for this new ryzen?
That is the true 9000 series.
Even with all its faults… I will continue to buy and use Intel processors like I have since the Mid 1980’s. Never had any problems. They have done everything I needed them to do. I didn’t even watch this video.
How badly optimized is Starfield???? You have it listed as 1080p/Low settings with literally the best of the best hardware and it’s 160fps at best? That’s awful.
This chip is insane. I hope AMD continues on this trend and releases a 9950x3D. It would be a real monster, zero compromise of a chip.
OMG it’s a new age Athlon 64 X2 days on steroids all over again lol
Damn that dice roll could have been my rogue.
How does this compare to the new Apple silicon? It seems like apples and oranges, so to speak.
Warhammer 3 will never be fixed by the devs lol
in its own league 😮😮😮😮
Value for the dice was up when Snowflake signed it, but went down with yours 😂
might be time to buy some intel stock
No CS2? 🙁
What was Intel again ????
The real king is 7500F. 500+ EU or $ CPU’s It’s not a smart thing to do for just playing games.
Intel needs to transition from x86/x64 chips to A.I. chips like yesterday!😂
That “glue” that intel kept making fun of some years ago is causing Intel some nightmares now 😂😂😂
I watch ALL of your vids, thanks so much for taking the time to create and post these things! I’m not seeing how you can say the intel 200 series is a disaster when it was on the TOP of a LOT of these charts in this vid! #1 for many things, even with only HALF of the cores as the others in the lists where the 200 series was 1st! How is having a cpu that ranks #1 in many of your tests still be considered a disaster? Again thnx for posting! Keep up the great work!
Do you think after the 9000x launch AMD tweaked the power profile to get more performance at the expense of efficiency?
“They pissed on the grave.” 😂
Will a Nh D15 be fine with it? It runs hotter than the 7800x3d even though the cache is underneath
This just goes to show how memory bandwidth and latency starved Zen 5 is….
I wish we got the better IO die that servers got with Zen 5, clearly it would have made a huge difference
All hail Lisa Su.
this may be a dumb question but why no benchmark comparison for 7600x3d?
Who wants my 7800x3d when my 9800x3d shows up 👀
Will you ever perhaps do benchmarking on THE FINALS?
Definitively the very best gaming processor.
My 7800X3D soon on ebay 😉
Looking good but not sure if it is worth upgrading from my 5800x3D
as a beginner in pc building with gaming and streaming in mind, would you recommend the new R7 9800X3D or just get a R9 for more cores and threads ? ( if R9 which one ? )
Cool but 1440p and 4k nothing to get too excited about… No reason to go out and spend money for 1080p gaming
Balders Gate 3, like Flight Simulator, clearly loves that extra cache, but whatever changes that are included with the swap in position this game must love that too.
I really wish you guys would include Flight Simulator in your tests, it might not have a built in benchmark, but it does have discovery flights that have some preset aspects that can easily be used to get a good idea of performance differences.
will reviewers ever switch to 1440p gaming benches? i don’t think anyone who buys these top tier CPUs would have 1080p monitors still
ok baldur’s gate loves v-cache even the 5600x3d is in top 5
So they made a touchdown by getting the football over the net in the middle of the field and then bouncing it off their heads to get it in the hoop at the end all while not using have to resort to the puck stick thingy? GOOOOAAALLLLL!!!!
how many MIPS is Steve’s absolutely legendary reading of all of these numbers *head is spinning*
Conflicting interests as you start steve, CPU’s and dice.
$479 usd? Gonna be well over 530 now thanks to trump.
“Intel’s 285k was already lowered into the grave when it was launched”….
Comedy Gold right there… 🤣
Intel is dropping the ball and then slipping on it! They need to up their game. I like seeing a constant rivalry between Intel and AMD! It’s very good for competition!
When AMD said that the legend is back, they were not playing around.
Now I am curious why baldurs gate 3 was an outlier and what other games would it apply to…
Why are there never any comparisons between the X3D chips at 1440p and 4k resolutions? I can understand showing the complete throughput of a cpu when its not GPU limited by running at a lower resolution. But cant you show how much of a difference the X3D vs Non-X3D chips makes at higher resolutions? If theres no real reason to use X3D vs a non at anything other than 1080p, then thats a valid purchase or not purchase point to make.
The review is the nail in the coffin, and the now available overlocking is Amd spitting on the grave.
I don’t think there’s any reason to use a non-X3D chip in any gaming specific computer aside from budget nowadays… but even if budget is the concern I’d find a cheap AM4 board and stick a 5700X3D in it lol.
Now i need a new cpu… 😂
When will ltt start selling dice?
Intel turning into Radio Shack.
AMD finally missed an opportunity to miss an opportunity!!!!
Crazy cpu
I could care less about cpu reviews. We got our country back from the traitors baby!!!!!!!!! 💯💯💯🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
I didn’t even need to watch the video, the title sums it up precisely
WHERE IS THE 7600X 3D?
Harder and harder to watch each series. You’ve started to sound more and more like dogging on one versus the other than sounding like you’re providing consumer advice, this isn’t meant as a rude comment but it is exhausting to constantly hear “RIP this and that” etc
The difference lies in the nuance that you seem to take pleasure in bad products, bad companies and bad practices. There’s a fine line between warning about bad practices and becoming a soapbox, and you’re moving into the latter at a pace that’s exhausting as a viewer.
Just needed to get this off my chest. It’s just my opinion and I know that. Have an awesome day!
Absolutely love the experimental price per frame when comparing the CPUs. Hopefully that sticks around!
Damn, im normally not impressed with AMD’s “innovations” that are usually just TSMC hard carrying with node shrinks. What theyre doing with X3D though, THAT’s innovation and its cool watching them optimize how the way they use and apply the 3D cache. If they could just give up on the dumbass core parking now on the Ryzen 9’s or make it use the non 3D cores for background tasks similar to the way e cores on Intel operate. Eitherway still definitely a huge W over Intel and i’m not some AMD fanboy that pretends everything they do is great or the best or they have no flaws. This is the BIGGEST reason to finally move to AM5 and Intel literally cannot compete right now
Personally, I think you’re misleading consumers into overspending on a CPU to detriment of their GPU allocation by only showing 1080P benchmarks.
Hmm. What would be interesting would be limiting the processor to 7800X3D-limits and see how it fares.
OK, we all get that you want to show the “difference” in gaming, but just for S&G, can you run a *single* test at 4k or at least 1440p Ultra to show the relative, _real world_ , difference?
RIP Intel is just populist clickbait nonsense! And the fact that there are still so many 720p/1080p gamers is unbelievable!
75% Tarif on computer part soonTM.
bruh this is a slighter not a benchmark I had a soft spot for intel cuz I’m using their CPUs form 15+ years but I’m switching for my next upgrade.
Good job, AMD. But once again, I’m happy that invested in a 5800x3d a couple years ago!
i was always team blue and cause i do a lot of workload stuff i probably still am but i can only applaud AMD for the 7800x3d and this masterpiece. Insanely good Hardware. I just Hope Intel can recover and come back strong so we have a healthy competition in the market. Thanks for the detailed review!
Back in the early 2000’s, I always said AMD was here to keep Intel honest. Not anymore. I have always been an intel customer, even though my last build was with an i7-3930k and my Samsung SSD 512 cost $512.00 new. I believe I will get the AMD 9800x3D for my new build. Thank you Steve. I have been out of the computer rig building game for 10 years now, and watching your informational videos has helped me get caught up really quick!!
okay now i want to see how good 9800x3d is compare to 7800x3d in 1440P.
Jeez. And they still have the 9850x3D to release.
Im very interested in what the 9900X3D and 9950X3D will do
Worth the upgrade if you have a 7950x3d?
take my money
Can somebody explain me why 7950x3d is so low on game tests in this video ? It’s almost the same as 7800x3d but with extra chiplet and still it ranks so low. I do’t get it. If tests were done with wrong core parking so re-do the tests ?
Or i’m missing something ?
Thanks Steve!
cant understand u, please OPEN your Mouth while talking wtf
PLEASE DO IDLE POWER CONSUMPTION AND X265 POWER CONSUMPTION!!!
Love the experimental price comparison chart to last gen.
You had me at dice. Thanks Steve, didnt think id be spending money today but I guess plans change!
I was thinking about getting a new pc after the RTX5090 comes out, should I go for 9800X3D or Ultra 285K? (for streaming/gaming/editing) or 9950X?
I’m on a 9900k with a 1080ti and they were amazing for almost 6 years now.
Thanks!
I’d like to see how Gigabyte’s ‘X3D Turbo Mode’ affects the bench scores and comparisons
Why does nobody test the power consumption in idle? Is it sooo bad andvit doesn’t fit in the narrative?
Excellent review. Thank you
I own stock in both! Bought intel for a steal at 21. I think intel should focus on their strengths, or lack thereof, their data centre and business side. If they don’t watch out AMD Epyc will outpace them y/y just like they did this past quarter. Good thing they landed that AMzN deal.
Would power-constrained comparisons be possible? (Or useful?) purely academically interested in comparing cpu performance when they are using the same power 😅
How relevant is the price of the CPU alone when you have to buy the other components too?
A $150 difference in a $2,000 system that gets you 20% more performance (for example) seems like a bargain to me.
Great vid btw.
Is there a 16 core version??
So, when the 9000 series was released and I said my next system will propably feature a 7000 series CPU unless AMD does really well with the new X3D stuff, they basically said “we need to convince this guy to go for the new series” and made it really good.
After all the chaos in the summer regarding CPUs, it’s nice to see AMD at least partially got their cool back.
Does the 9800x3d have an Eco Mode ?
We don’t need 50% of the review to be focused on efficiency for a gaming CPU … no one cares that much – a couple examples would be fine. Much more value in including a larger spread of games … the channel is called Gamers Nexus, not Efficiency Nexus …
Factorio UPS stats when? I NEED to know!
13600k is still a hidden gem. I paid $249 CAD for mine at a retail store a couple of weeks ago. You have to pay literally 2-3x more to get maybe 50% faster gaming performance if you only run 1080p low detail levels. At reasonable quality levels on 1440p, that delta is nearly gone.
The King is dead, long live the King. The 9800X3D is a worthy successor of the 5800X3D and 7800X3D, which both are still viable processors today. While the Intels are Waffleirons. Upping the watts a little for more performance is not great but it is not like going from 105 Watts to 250 Watts.
Might as well call it the 9800DJT with that blowout of intel 😂
If Intel didn’t introduce a new platform, they might got away with a blue eye. But you have to pay ~1000$ to get worse results over an older Intel Core.
Going to stick with my 7800x3d for this generation then, but seeing that AMD was able to finally beat the monster they created is awesome. Great review guys. Thanks, Steve! 🙂
So AMD did really want to focus on efficiency with the non-3D parts, huh? I guess the failing Intel parts scared them to death. I thought it was a cover-up lie, but this sort of performance shows that had they pushed the power limit in the other SKU’s, the whole product line would likely perform much better.
Thanks Steve.
So i was in the middle of doing a 4070 ti super build with a 7800x3d. Is it still a wide decision to go woth the 7800x3d if i can get it at $330?
9800x3d is absolute beast
I really hope the 9950X3D has one CCD. All cores be X3D, that would be amazing. Could potentially give similar single core performance to 9800X3D whilst also giving near top productivity tasks benchmarks. A true best of both worlds CPU without the timing shenanigans of previous gen with the two CCDs.
jumped from r5 3600 to 5800x3d and it looks like im still good for another 2-3 years at least, thank you amd
Watch this cpu get scalped
“RIP Intel” Huh?! So….. was Intel, like… The clear “winner” in that space?! Considering their current is a worse gaming unit than the gawdamn 5000 xTreeDee ceepews! Ah, hahahaha! JFC!
“I have reached the end of my knowledge for sports.” 👏🏻🤣 LOL
When I die I’m leaving my children a 9800X3D encased in gold. (I don’t have any children)
Can’t wait to see the 9950x3d
an overpriced 8 core CPU in 2024, and you praising it because it can run 200 fps instead of 180fps that a 24 core is delivering
8 cores should never sell above 250$ in 2024-2025 this is a complete rip off at 479$
With the rumors of the 5090 performance uplift I can’t wait to see this (9800x3d) paired with that (5090) and added to the charts – now i just need a bank with really poor security cause that combo is going to be both crazy good and crazy expensive. looking forward to those benchmarks already.
Really encourage adding FS2020 or upcoming Flight Sim 2024 to CPU benchmarks. The new one will have recording tools that should improve consistency across runs.
Perfectly magnificent unique monster 9800x3d.
7800x3D – 9800x3D difference is only 5 %.
That gamer nexus dice is the height of nerdism.
Anybody tried Curve Optimizer undervolting yet?
Might not be as good as on previous X3D chips because those had nerfed clocks and locked vcore, but I bet there’s still some room underneath!
Maybe in the consumer space Intel is cooked but as long as they keep those government contracts, they’re too integrated to fail.
Have to save some money but it’s finally time to upgrade my i5-6600K!
I always wait for the GN review before buying, so I’m glad you guys were able to get it out a day before release. I would have waited regardless but at least now I have a chance to put an order in before it sells out.
I’ve never bought an X3D part. Went from 3600X to 7600X but actually contemplating the 9800X3D and probably been done for the next 5 years or so
came for the info, liked for the sports reference !!!
This is finally an exciting CPU launch.
True, Ive always had an intel cpu, next build is going to be a 9800X3D though
Thanks Steve 🤣🤣🤣
I hope intel gets it together. We need competition. The market will exploit this lack of competition at the high end. I don’t see Qualcomm buying them being a positive either. They have not been known for pro consumer practices.
in cpu market : amd is fc barcelona, intel is real madrid
Amd just can’t stop winning.
has the 7000x3d series been tested with the latest bios?
Did I miss what GN recommended for RAM?
Nobody is playing games at 1080p! I have not met a single person in last 5-10 years who would play any games on resolution from early 2000s!
Feels Surreal. A new, chart leading CPU drops and a few years ago, I’d have blown my mind. But today, with me being able to buy it, it feels so…less impressive
Drowning your review in a sea of charts doesn’t make it smarter—it just makes it unreadable. There’s a fine line between insightful analysis and visual clutter. If you overload your audience with useless charts, you’ll see their eyes glaze over faster than a donut shop at closing time.
The Intel hater’s club has posted another video
Let’s pray for good quality silicon per unit this year as well
now we just need to know if the future dual chiplet versions have 3d cache on both chips
the turn timer benchmark is by far the most important benchmark imo, please bring it back! super useful
That percent performance increase relative to percent power increase chart is SUPER interesting and useful. Please keep it for CPUs going forward!
If the price stays where it is or goes lower this seems like a recommend for those who can afford it.
the 9800x3d is still 7% slower than the i9 14900KF (which is what i have)
You might want to consider flipping the x-axis on the delta USD/FPS chart. I know it’s counter-intuitive from a data perspective but since most other plots have “better” towards the right and the point of reference is the value of the 9800X3D, it might be more natural to comprehend if it’s presented with the negative values on the right.
Double whammy for Intel. Unreliable previous generation, then this generation just objectively being worse. They’re headed towards selling off parts of their business at this point.
I see that Light Base back there… are y’all reviewing that?
Damn it’s a monster. Now I really wanna upgrade!
I build a top end pc for myself once every 10 years. How’s ryzen in general in terms of service life?
Someone needs to AI Lisa Su onto Emperor Palpatine’s throne: “Now you will witness the power of the fully operational 9800x3d”
Somebody supposed to introduce Steve to Satisfactory. I’ll throw some buzzwords: efficiency, power limits, ratios, calculations. Besides being great game, Satisfactory could be great CPU benchmark.
Please please please retest the 7950x3d processor… amd has provided it with updates and also the 3d vcache optimiser service has been helping it in performance improvements
WTF with Cinebenh r23?
I’ll be honest, I was not expecting such a slaughter, I was waiting for quite a while for intel to release a new cpu and was excited hearing the 200 series about to post reviews, then immediately realised intel dropped the ball after watching the 200 series review, it’s a shame, as now with 18 years of exclusively using intel CPUs, I am now moving onto AMD, that’s crazy to me
Is that a Steelcase Think I spy?
With gaming being a fraction of the PC market I really don’t think Intel cares. They’re going after the every day consumer and business space are the largest markets by far. I left PC gaming behind long ago because it makes no financial sense.
This thing is insane
Recycled copper wire.
The one part of E-vaste we have been really good at recycling for decades.
But if it raises awareness, I’m all for it.
Awesome review as always! Thanks for helping me steer my buying decision towards a better CPU!
Good job amd, especially happy with the thermal imrpovements.
I am happy that intel is going for effieciency tho.
And the 9700x doesn’t look too shabby anymore, especially when it’s price enevetably fall to around and below 300€
Does Intel get a RIP AMD for beating them so completely in multicore stuff or is the only use of a processor now gaming?
I’ll be rocking a 5900x for a few years to come, but it is still cool to see just how much more performance this new cpu has over all the rest.
also, I REALLY really want one or both of those dice sets. I used to be an AVID D&D player way, way back in the 80’s and 90’s. I never had a really nice dice set, mine were always hand-me-downs or mismatched, functional good dice but never looked as good or as cool as some of the sets that my friends had.
These days, all i have left from those old gaming days is 2 books – Unearthed Arcana and a “Dieties and Demigods” before it was “canceled” by some rogue/insane church org and got renamed to something else. haha my wife might be buying me one of those sets and she doesn’t know it yet!
1440p results please, thanks bye…
What I love most is that reviewers use the best gaming chip and a 4090 and then need to run 1080p to show FPS differences. But I guess everyone needs a story to tell.
Still no Ryzen 9 9950x3d
Feelsbadman bought a super expensive 5950 because I didnt know the 3d versions was a thing. And it’s not even in charts 🙁
Imagine watching these benchmarks since the 5800x3d and still buying Intel. Unfathomable
I had low expectations – would have bet the uplift was going to match the price increase ie:5% So happy to se an actual good product launched.
My poor 10900k doesn’t appear on any performance lists anymore😂
*MONSTER*
Thanks, Steve!
nah, money is not with desktop it’s with laptops. whatever, you can just use any recent cpu to game as performance is more in the gpu.
I don’t play table top games but they look great and I love the Snowflake paw print signature lol
as good as it is, i think i will stay at AM4 until AM6 even the top would give me 30% boost for $2-3k is too much for two little i need a 50% boost for less money waiting until 2030..lol
I would like Ginni Di to review these dice.
I would like Intel to do well enough in their bets on AI and Server that they can stay in business and compete in PC CPUs and eventually discreet graphics again.
I would like AMD to not rest on their laurels in the PC CPU space. And do their best to undercut Nvidia in the discreet GPU and AI markets.
I would like the Gamers Nexus crew to have a better work life balance.
I would like to thank everyone except for elements of Intel marketing and management for all their hard work.
wow.. that bg3 result is crazy and thank you for including stellaris. That was my main reason to upgrade from 5800x3d
Tomorrow it’s the day …….but i see no pre order option at the online store in EU, pre order for INTEL was found 1 week before
You guys thought of using Escape From Tarkov for benchmarking? You could use SPT since its offline.
With a video card you look for dumb things games do and fix it in the driver. Maybe AMD found a dumb thing Baldur’s Gate does and fixed it in agesa. Have you tried renaming the binary to quack?
I now am even more sad to be poor. Looks like a beast of a CPU.
Intel seems to be ankles deep in it, upside down. Yeah sure, they’ve still got some decent government contracts and whatnot keeping them afloat, but long term it’s looking really darn iffy since *that* CPU debacle has cost their customers millions in all likelihood in terms of cancelled contracts. For example, we’ve had completely inexcusable issues with our brand-spanking new CT-machine at our hospital. I dug around, and came to conclusion that there’s like a 90% chance of it having one of the cursed intel-CPU’s in that setup. The crashes and issues were starting to become so frequent that hospital was starting to consider just nullifying the contract, citing poor SLA, meaning that Toshiba would end up eating shit for nearly a million euros.
Intel better make Battlemage magical in terms of cost/performance ratio or perform some miracle in regards to their CPU division.
Where are the comparisons for gaming in 1440p?
Pressed LIKE on that dice goof. Genius.
Why no Cyberpunk 2077 test?
We get donald trump and a 9800x3d in the same day????
3:52 Damn, never would have expected this when I was in high school.
RIP INTEL
Dice? Shut up and take my money! XD
PLEASE test how the 9800X3D performs with faster RAM (6000mt vs 8000mt and 8200mt)
AMD won but Steve was standing!!!! What does it mean!!! 🤪
Awesome. I’ll buy one. Now tell me what the best air cooler for it is, please. 🙂
I just hope I can get one tomorrow. Im in EU, Austria. I will buy off any shop, but I prefer Amazon. I have no clue how fast or of it will be sold out? How many parts did AMD produce? please, Im praying that I can order one tomorrow.
I REALLY want to build my new pc, use it with my 1070 as GPU, and then slot an RTX 5090 in when that one gets released.
It seems like the uplift over the 5800x3d offers a compelling argument for users who are still on the AM4 platform to finally upgrade to AM5.
But I’ve just bought a 7600 to go with my 7900GRE GPU…
TLDR, 9800x3d is the best gaming cpu you can get, and intel is failing miserably.
Anyone upgrading from the 7800x3d to the 9800x3d want to sell me their 78?
At what time will the 9800x3d drop? It says Nov 7th, but when can we expect it finally hit Newegg/amazon
Goodbye intel. I hope the amd gpus are solid too. I am.l not buying the next generation 70s like I have been. I am tired of the price gouging.
I think you should retest the 7950x3D on a fresh H2 install with the latest agesa update. I can’t remember exactly when but I saw a noticeable increase in performance a while back on my system. I’m saying this because those Baldur’s Gate benchmarks don’t match mine. I have a 3090 and I’m getting a way higher average at medium preset. Frame view captured 119 avg fps. Which would make sense given the 7800x3d got 126 in your test and I didn’t do the exact scene you did for your benchmark. Actually I would encourage a retest for your entire BG3 findings. Those all seem lower than they should be. That’s too big a difference in the 9800X3D.
Afraid of 2 things:
1. Might be out of stock before I manage to click BUY NOW at launch hour (tomorrow).
2. Sellers will rise prices ridiculously when they see how reviews blowed up (still gonna buy it lol).
So they said that the 9900X3d and the 9950X3d would have v-caches on both ccds. But how much will it impact the gaming performance and is it future proof when game studios start to use 10 cores? I kinda want to play on 4k.
Its a shame I dont plan on upgrading anytime soon. Though i did just buy a new PSU because I’m trying to test a theory.
Btw. what is “average simulation time”? Is it the amount of time to go through X days ingame? If yes, how many days?
Absolutely want the snowflake D+D dice !!
Great review
While it may not be as big of a game, I’d recommend Factorio for cpu testing. It very easy to get a consistent and repeatable benchmark. The game is already measured in updates per second and more easily understood than from Stellaris
I wont upgrade from my 7800x3d, but this definetly gets my hopes up for the 11800x3d
Thank you! AMD FTW!!!
Thank you for including FF14 for us MMO players. Don’t think we’ll ever get a WoW benchmark. If I built all over again would just go 9800X3D. 12900KF 4090 still pretty good 1440P but we got a Miami Microcenter now & if there’s a killer bundle I might drive 1.5 hours. I love that the location of the 3Dvcache is more efficient this gen.
Even though this is amd focused, so glad I just bought a 14700kf instead of a 265k. There is a lot to gain from your charts. It was a hard choice, go the flagship of the last of what I now consider the last of the best of intel with the 14th gen i9 or save the $150 and just get the i7, i7 it is and an extra $150 towards battlemage is ready. FWIW, a 7950x3d 16core is $929 here while I just paid $549 for the 14700kf and I already have a z690 motherboard ready for it. The motherboards for am5 are very horrendously priced too if you want a flagship x870 with the cheapest at $499, tbf, the latest intel z890 is priced the same. This seems to be intel in the pentium 4 era again right now, high speeds with high inefficiency. Hopefully they can make a core gen return.
Once again the perf per watt results are my favorite part of the review. Thanks Steve
in theory the 3d cache shoul also help in database performance.
as literally no benchmarks exists i would love to see a comparison (even if its a one off) for the productivity guys :).
I coul send you a good test for this.
Amazing chip but didn’t expect anything less. Why in hell did AMD partner with Intel?? They should let them burn for their shitty tactics but i guess ARM and Apple is too big of a threat to ignore…
I just want to see 1440p and above performance
@GamersNexus why don’t you add World of Warcraft to gaming benchmarks? as far as I know it’s heavily CPU dependent, thanks! Anyway, good job, love your videos <3
This is amazing news for all three of you that have a 4090 and play games at 1080p medium. For the other 99.9999% of us the 7700x is just as strong while being stupidly cheaper. $500 is an insane price for a single CCD 8 core in 2025 but apparently everyone has been guzzling that AMD marketing punch.
Call me when these hit $300 but until then this is proof that AMD thinks you’re an idiot and your gushing approval only proves they’re right.
Honestly, I love seeing intel shitting the bed. Competition is good, and AMD are pushing the boundaries in a very productive way. Hopefully intel get their shit together and start delivering some value soon.
Loved this video. The way you speak is clear and effective. The charts are easy to understand. I liked your experimental charts. Keep up the good work.
Everybody said the 9800x3D was going to be a huge disappointment vs the 7800x3D. This looks fantastic.
are you looking forward to the 9950X3D
Nvidia charges $2000 for best gpu chip, even $500 is cheap for 9800x3d. We have seen $1000 cpus in the past from both companies.
At this point, we have to seriously consider the possibility that userbenchmark is secretly funded by AMD as some sort of reverse ridicule of Intel 😅
@GamersNexus are you planning to ever switch your benchmarks to 4k resolution by default? I don’t know about everyone else but I pretty much play every single game now at 4k.
but will the 9800x3d be the best of the newer x3d cpus now?
benchmarking dice ftw
Any improvements on the memory controller? I couldn’t get higher than JDEC speeds when utilizing more than 2 sticks of RAM on 7950X3D on X670E and I’m not the only one to struggle with it. Your FPS numbers for that chip are also suspect. I either have a mythical chip or something is broken in your setup for that system.
So glad I sold my 7800x3d before the launch 😀 looks like a big generation leap!
Seems this 9800x3D will be my CPU upgrade from a 5600x 😀
What is a release date for the next 3d cache 9th Ryzens? This month, no?
Userbenchmark currently has the 285K above the 9800X3D, I can’t wait to see their review shits going to be hilarious.
Wait. So the 9800x3d is better for production than the 9700x?
This is great, Had nothing but issues building with AM5(mostly RAM BS), so been sticking to AM4 and current Intel(not 200s) and thanks to all this i’ve been picking up new 13700Ks for $200 and 14900Ks for $250 all new, used I can get even cheaper 😉
Also while I understand the benchmarking you are doing, the part I think a lot of people don’t understand is that unless you are running a 4090 at 1080p you just won’t see any real difference on these parts in gaming. So if you’re running a 4090 at low resolution high framerate run out and buy this, otherwise stick to last gen or lower tier sku. I’ve tested my 4080S with 12700K, 13700k, 14900k, and 7800x3d at 1440p/4k and there is literally no difference in any game because the GPU is always the bottleneck.
One thing I’d like to see on all these tests is whether the GPU is the bottleneck or not at the top of the chart or is there still headroom on the part being tested to be paired with a newer GPU when they come out
I fast forward the dice ad, but only because I bought a Snowflake set…
day 1 of complaining that you should use percentages on frametimes and not framerates, it’s a misleading metric because framerate grows nonlinearly based on performance gains.
ie : the change in frametime between 1000fps and 500fps (1ms/frame vs 2ms/frame) is approx the same as between 100fps and 90fps (10ms/frame vs 11ms/frame), but in framerate percentages the first is a 50% downgrade, and the second a 10% downgrade, that’s misleading to me
what about 7950x3d ? will the 9850X3D (not released yet)
how much will the performance difference will there be ?
Maybe you guys could do less than 1080p or upscale to 1080p when the test is gpu bound to see how much improvement the CPU’s could theoretically achieve in a game if given enough gpu overhead
I think the CPU market reflects the US political situation. Intel has no idea what it is doing, clearly has a worse product, but will likely come out ahead.
I honestly love the new charts and they make for a good example of the price points of where a product is starting to get interesting or very good, it’s true that is kinda hard to do that kind of charts every now and the because prices changes a lot but it’s indeed very useful information to me and make for a good sum or guideline for direct comparison aside raw performance
Why do <100w matter in a CPU test besides thermals? Can someone please explain why the power of a few lightbulbs is worth analyzing? Even if you pay a lot for electricity, it isn't relatively significant, is it? I just don't understand... I mean, it's interesting from an engineering standpoint, I guess... ?
BUT, THANK YOU VERY MUCH for all your hard work and your great analysis!! GN is one of the most reliable sources, if not THE most for me, for objective and insightful analysis, which says a lot! Great work! Thanks!! Nice to hear some good news for a change. Good news is good. So thankful for some today.
So nice to see something that doesn't suck too this CPU generation. And with the 16 core X3D?? Do I dare to hope the new core parking isn't like leaving in your car from a rock concert? lol
Disappointed you guys don’t test Microsoft Flight Simulator. It’s one of those CPU-bound games I’m looking to upgrade for.
FINALLY a cpu I can spend my money on after my 14900K flaked and had to be returned in September. Have a 4090 gathering dust on the shelf waiting for a processor that it could be paired with.
RED IS RISING UP AMD 2024
When comparing top tier CPU’s like this id love to see more comparisons with previous top tier CPU’s, specifically older (x)700k models. Personally I’m still on a 8700k, and i think it has stood the test of time, but I know upgrade time is soon. Maybe if fitting them on a chart for a youtube video isnt easy, could we possibly get a section on the GN website for these charts?
As someone with a Ryzen 7 (PRO) 2700 and a Ryzen 7 5700X…. oof…. these X3D CPU’s are looking mighty appealing…
AMD > Intel
It is insane how much non X3D Zen is held back by the slow IO-die. Even in compile a 10% faster result for the 9800X3D compared to the 9700X is massive.
Would anyone reading this comment upgrade from a 7800x3d to 9800x3d running a 4k monitor with a 4070 ti super? Any noticeable difference do you think?
Intel current prices could be a bargain next year when Trump’s tariffs return on imported goods. Everything will be more expensive next year if it’s not made in the US.
Disappointing review, if they boost frequency, the only important metric is temperature, but you did not compare temperature with other CPUs for lazy raisons, you did everything except the only important thing.
9950x 3d on the way?
Time to return the 7800x3D I bought 2 days back to MicroCenter and to get this 9800x3d instead
Why did AMD even bother with non-X3D CPUs? Wasted silicon and wasted money (they could launch them with extra L3 cache and charge 20% more and still sell them out).
Wait. AMD _didn’t_ mess up this launch?
Hymm looks like 9700X looks like still best all-rounder in the meaning cash to effect.
01:56 – totally unrelated, does anyone know where to get these starcraft 2 minis?
nobody plays at 1080p and buys a top end cpu and gpu. your benchmark might show the explicit difference but in real wolrd application nobody would see a difference between the last 5 gens of cpus since 99% of titles are gpu bound
god job team Red
God created Adam and Eve so that centuries later, Intel will fear Steve. Great review!
Geniune question Steve. Why do you test games that render a ridiculous amount of fps (talking over 300 and I’m saying this cause at 1440p then CPU is usually less loaded) when virtually no one plays at that refresh rate? Wouldn’t it better to limit the results to games where the change would actually matter (even if by a tiny percentage). Like for example rainbow six you show (for 5800X3D, 7800X3D and 9800X3D) 575.7 fps, 622.1 and 643 respectively. Why would anyone care about THAT delta ? I get that upgrades are not only “yes or no” depending on average percentage performance increases and depend more on what games you play. For example for me I play WoW seriously and then other games super casually (so I don’t really care about that much about performance in those) but again, I find it strange to show deltas that don’t have any (in almost every gaming scenario) particular real world application regarding to fps. Could you clarify this? Thanks man. Great content.
Does the 9800x3d still have the cache on only one side on the ccds?
I actually won an 8086k (8700k OCd essentially) six years ago in an Intel sweepstakes so have not actually bought a CPU since the Haswell line. I am so excited to get my hands on this chip, plus a Blackwell GPU this winter. I’m glad I waited as along as I did. I have a 3080Ti which is surely already being bottlenecked a bit, but I didn’t see the need to upgrade when running 1440p/60 most of the time for games, and 120hz desktop. With the Starfield results alone, I can’t believe I’d be seeing a 90% uplift in frames just from the CPU. 5-6 years seems to be the sweet spot these days for a brand new build, with a GPU upgrade or two along the way.
I’m considering _finally_ building a new system because I’m pretty sure trying to run S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 on even half-decent settings is going to do terrible, _terrible_ things to my 8086K and 2080ti.
It’ll be my first ever AMD system and I’m moderately excited.
Why the Liquid Freezer 2 and not 3? May have missed that point.
At least we won… something?
Still need idle power consumption. (Include motherboard/chipset.)
I think the TL;DR at this point is if you have tons of cash, get the 9800X3D because it is better, but otherwise it’s not “hugely” better overall than 7800X3D with all things considered. Such as factoring in the need for water cooling (+ its maintenance costs) and for many people possibly a PSU change.
So Intel did throw fumble in D20 skill test… That explains a lot!
😂
Please for the love of god, cut your hair 😢
12:42 Well, since you asked: I’m upgrading from a 5930K. Why isn’t it on the chats :((((
What sucks is that due to lack of actual competition means that this thing is gonna inflate in price.
Upgrading from my i7-8700K is gonna feel so damn good
Looks like I’m going from my 9900k to the 9800X3D. It’s 100 away from 9900 so it’ll be fine I think.
You nailed the sports reference.
Holy shit is that an actual good generational improvement?
I’ve heard legends speak of such things but it’s been so long since we’ve actually seen one!
his last breath 2:36
Intel Ultra sucker
Assuming the 285K does not fry itself, it does have value over the 14900K if you insist on going with Intel.
All the folks trolling AMD’s meagre gains this gen, and claiming they got cocky instead of decimating Intel….Ya’ll have any further questions?
I’m playing a lot of stellaris
Late game you can always use more performance especially with lage or huge galaxy’s. I’m definitely getting one to replace my 7800X3D!
Its clear the io die / infinity fabric is limiting Zen5 desktop performance. The server parts where already looking way better.
Take a shot every time someone is grateful they bought the GODLY 5800x3d in the comments ( Wish I got one back then too 😭)
Hope we get a mobile version soon. Laptops are about to get a huge strength boost.
Thanks Steve!
Thanks Steve
Excellent review, as always!
Which game benchmark most closely resembles CS2? I am looking to improve 1% and 0.1% lows more than overall fps. Thanks!
The used market is about to be flooded with 7800X3D chips. Maybe I’ll upgrade from my trustworthy 5800X3D.
Those dice look dope af
bla bla , its only better at 1080p, thats it
Another CPU that I’ll never own. Oh well.
I’m so happy for AMD. They are killing it. Looking forward to the future, hoping Intel can pick it back up and compete!
I cant wait for next gen to be called the Elevendy Eight Hundred Ex Three Dee
I now have FOMO for CEO Snowflake’ signature
We are in 2024 and why use 1080p for benchmark ? Because the difference are not significant in 2 or 4k … (maybe 5%)
For gaming and streaming in same time, who are the best AMD 7800X3D or Intel 265K ?
Motormouth Steve gets faster and faster at spitting out the numbers 😅
Intel is punching air right now
Thanks, Steve
Well im pretty excited for this one, really want to see if i can get any kind of improvement over the 7800x3d in 4k and maybe oc it
Stop he’s already dead
LN2 GO BRRR?
lol the GN dice ad is awesome
Steve, where is the 5900X in your charts? How can you have much higher and lower spec CPUs, but specifically not this one!?
Why use Starfield as a test game though. Nobody in their right mind would want to play it.
Not sure who AMD would be, but Intel sounds like the Jets.
Insane.
Those 1 and 0.1% gains are not to be underestimated! Makes for a smoother gaming experience.
Has anyone put Intel on suicide watch yet?
21:24 ❤️
At this point, why even buy the non X3D chips???
Sorry bud, can’t risk a penny going to benefit Trump’s America so I have to boycott all American channels from now on. Good luck with your new tyrant.
I love you steve.. 😂
Actually, I love both Steves! 😊
Would have liked to see various ram speeds tested, currently bought a 6000 cl30 kit but willing to fork out more for higher speed kit if it performs better
Intel rolls a critical fail. lol
Finally, I see 7950x/9950x power consumption in gaming! It’s absolutely AMAZING how little the difference is between those AMD chips and Intel 13900k/14900k.
can someone explain why the benchmarking is doing at 1080p for these types of cpu’s? surely your going to be atleast playing 1440p or 4k with top end components.
I know this isn’t here nor there but I like the packaging AMD has been using recently. It does a good job showing off the CPU without being annoyingly large
That +60% margin over a CPU 100$ *more expensive* is straight up obscene!
I hope AMD make ARM CPUs soon, and they insert 3d vcache on those too, so they can win they gaming crown on arm too, intel deserves this so much, so happy to have only bought AMD CPUs over the last 4 years
SPORTS!!
GOLF HOLE!
Man, I never thought I’d find myself switching to AMD but this 9800x3d is the tits. It’s a good thing I build my computers to last, this 2017 7700k/1070 build lasted just long enough for some incredibly substantial upgrades. So long intel and pascal, you will be missed.
5800x3d holding strong
Forget to put in your chapter markers? Those are super valuable.
😒 It’s a Wrap Folks, nothing to see here 😊
Anybody who bought a 7800X3D lately must be not very happy
Who the hell plays 1080p gaming anymore unless on handheld?
For the first time ever, my next gaming build will be AMD.
Where is CS2? Why people stop testing CS2 when we have fps benchmark map now?
This CPU is literally made for CS2.
Intels rot started quite a few years ago when they just could not innovate, now they are paying the price.
Its funny how things turn out, if you wait long enough.
I wonder if they will go back to making space heaters?
I’m now going to work out a way to purchase a 9800x3d.
9800X3D doubles my 5800X’s frame rates in Balder’s Gate 3?! I might need this thing since I just bought Balder’s Gate 3 after Witnessing the death throes of Bioware after their latest title drop…
I know what I’m asking for this Christmas…
5800X3D still holding up well I see – I’m on AM4 so can’t go any higher without a complete overhaul. Looks like I’ll be skipping past the Zen 4 and Zen 5 generations completely.
No 9600x3d? Sadge
At this point, it’s like tech has outrun games. I cannot imagine a sane individual wanting any more than this. You’d basically have to be a stat junky.
Is it time to retire my 5950x to the secondary PC and jump onto the AM5 platform? Or do I wait it our to AM6?
(I’m broke broke btw, but got a good deal at the time where I paid today’s current 2nd market rate for it few years back)
Still no idle power testing!
“zen5 is so bad, am5 is to expensive, im still rocking my intel i7 its just good, doesnt need that much power” 💀
Is the 9950x3d worth waiting for over the 9800x3d for only gaming purposes?
I found the 7800X3D for 560€ in my country, and the 9800X3D for 585€ (comparing box to box versions).
That’s pricey for both, tbh, far from the slightly under 400€ prices in the “best days” for the 7800X3D, but I’m glad the difference in price is small. This is nearly unheard of in Slovenia.
Or I can pay 685€ more for Intel 285K and get dung performance on an overpriced dead platform 😂
34:45 Steve struggling with sports terminolgy is very relatable. I think with football it will be the hoop line or 90 yards line. If it is soccer I think it’s called the other court.
I’m currently on a 12700k, do you think it’s worth the upgrade? Gaming focused
Finally full power x3d cpu that is unlocked, 20 or 30w more power in gaming is totally fine. I WANT MOARRRRR FPS
00:00 Thanks Steve.
The dice is cast. Intel gets 1 😂
I would love to see games like World of Warcraft benchmarked in these 3D cache reviews. I think it’s one of the games that benefit the most (1% and 0.1% fps) of 3D cache in big hubs/raids environments.
The new king of Gaming CPUs is here 👑
What time do new releases like this usually become available? Midnight?
I’ve been waiting for a while for this so just don’t want to miss the drop.
28:10 – 28:40
LOL!!!!!!!!! STEVE! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Super tempting but I’ll keep my 7800x3d. Was the first time I built a PC myself when it launched and I’ve been super happy with it. Chose it because of your review so thanks!
I really noticed how lucky I was to have it during this Monster Hunter Beta. I’ll definitely be open to getting a new x3d chip later in the AM5 lifespan so hopefully they keep improving it. Your other vid on the tech breakdown of why they could boost clocks for this part was fascinating. Great vids as always!
Finally a good product in a year that was basically going meh!
I can’t see a reason to upgrade my R7 5800X3d and RTX 3080. Plays all of my games.
How come the R9 5900X is not listed in any of the benchmark for the comparisons
I’ve felt my 12600k being sluggish in games like BG3 and this looks like a good upgrade. My last AMD CPU was an AMD Athlon XP 1700+ from 2001 😂
Game benchmarks start at 10:52 . You can skip all the NONSENSE beforehand. YOU’RE WELCOME. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dNB_RjpWnsI
Love the BG3 Steve
AMD already biting their ass, because is way cheaper than the Ultra Series, they themselves claim its made for gamers.
WHERE ARE THE 4K BENCHMARKS NOOOOOOOO
thank you again GN Team, you all do great work! TIME TO UPGRADE AFTER THE 9900K
I wonder who is the lucky Userbenchmark 1st tester since last week ?
AMD massacred intel.
RIP OVerclocking.
So all the gaming benchmarks are done in 1080P, for those of us playing at 4k, these results are useless? For example. I run a 13700K with a 4080 Super, would the 9800 make any difference? Great review BTW, this isn’t a criticism 🙂
Are the 7950X3d chips being ran in cache preferred settings or using the windows game bar method?
I think Intel’s new CPU is definitely a really significant step in the right direction, but it was definitely too little too late and should have happened years ago
why is Threadripper not visible on the production charts?
Hi, the CPU sounds great. Looks like I will finally upgrade.
What motherboard would you guys recommend for the 9800X3D?
I would be thankful for tips
Damn, nice CPU
I’m looking forward to getting my 9800X3D on Thursday and pairing it with 64GB 6400MT/s RAM before moving up to 8300MT/s RAM on a X870p motherboard.
so will the 9900X3D all be on the X3D cache or will it be split like in the 7900X3D?
Another great vid GN with lots of value comparison. However, why not show a more realistic resolution used for benchmarks (in addition to 1080p) most buyers at this tier will be using 1440 or 4K. Yes, the gpu will be the bottleneck for many games, but as a value proposition, seeing if there is any benefit at all between 5800x3d->7800x3d—>9800x3d might be helpful when operating at high resolution and options.
Lastly, will you show a 9800x3d OC performance vid with best 800+ ram, gen 5 ssd, crucial 705 for example?
I think I’ll upgrade to this when it goes into the 300s
Yep it’s official and I can’t even deny it lol bye bye intel. Gonna take them forever to make a comeback if ever.
I’ve already got the 7800X3D but is it worth getting the 9800X3D?
This is awesome. On your last 9x00x video, i stated as a gamer, i didn’t care about those results, and we’ll talk when the 3d chips came out, and was called an AMD shill…
AMD should grab all the CCD binned for the 9600X and strap the 3D cache. The architectural gains of Zen 5 for gaming are so small that the 9600X is not an attactive CPU, but I bet a 9600X3D would be really awesome and sell like hot cakes.
I knew Steve was describing the chemical composition of pee before he finished. Now I am imagining a Calvin sticker.
A meaningful generation improvement? In this time of the century? Located entirely in the AMD lineup?
Yes
R.I.P. Intel.
Hey Steve, do you know if amd is going to be supporting execute only memory flags anytime soon? Thanks for the great review!
Guess those 1.8bln transistors were memory bottlenecked…
Ive been saying that 9800x3d is 8-15% faster than 7800x3d since I heard the frequency is on par with non vcache, the vcache has a different implementation and the architecture is designed to benefit more from vcache. I have had an insane amount of pushback but hey. We can’t all see the future I guess.
great video Steve and the rest of the crew been waiting on this one for a very long time!
sadly it will be my last, I consider all of your videos a must watch. I will miss you and your great takes on the industry and your in-depth reporting but I am unsubbing from all American channels until trump is out of office.
Amd didn’t have to Hulk Hogan Intel like that.
Thank you Steve , now back to Steve.
FINALLY some light at end of the tunnel! This year has been crazy for PCMR!
Please hold a Snowflake and Inductor set aside for me for next month, my cat needed an URI test and I’m broke this month. I wish it was that simple. Alas, it is not.
Now i am only thinking if i should get the 9800X3D, or wait for the 9950X3D. I’m on a 3900X atm, so i in the first case i go from 12 to 8 cores. But of course much much faster cores, and a benefit in gaming. I also do some productivity work, from Adobe Premiere to Sony Soundforge (editting). But if i see this i doubt if 16 cores will benefit me that much compared to the 8 of the 9800X3D.
Can you post a 2500 dollar build for an old boomer like me? I was going to buy a pre-built, but they all suck.
Love the two new graphs
This is 1080 ti of CPUs
Looks like I’m gonna do it.. Go from 9700k to 9800X3D. If it begins with 9s I guess I upgrade.
So… AMD is becoming Intel 100%. They released Zen 5 as a “efficient” offering with 5% uplift, then on this X3D they just went with 20-30 watts more consumption than the 7800X3D to not be a disappointment on release like the rest of Zen 5. No one seems the similarity with intel 13th and 14th gen?
Edit: You did mentioned it a bit, I had paused just before that section.
Tired of the Zen 5% ?
Now get ready for the Ryzen $500+
Thanks Intel! 👍
CPU heavy gamers, we eating good. This looks like a monster for the people who actually will utilize it. For the average gamer its worth checking out the cheaper options, they arent that far behind but are significantly cheaper
Is it worth to switch my 7700x for this CPU considering I have a 5120×1440 and a 4090?
Great review, AMD is really knocking it [Intel 😆] out of the park!
I like the second experimental chart (power vs performance improvement), the first is very confusing and not that useful in my opinion.
Suggestion: please bring back the Blender efficiency chart! Rendering is a typical sustained high load where efficiency would matter, especially compared to games where it matters much less because the power is lower to start with and can be reduced even further with other bottlenecks and framecaps. While the X3D parts are obviously for gaming, for those interested in doing a mix, like gaming content creators, I’d say it makes a lot of sense to have that Blender chart. I also think it would be interesting to have a standard fully-compute efficiency test.
The rumors of the 9800X3D being unimpressive were GREATLY exaggerated.
This chip will be in my next build.
I’m sold.
is it worth buying the ryzen 9 7900x over a Ryzen 7 7800X3D for me it saves 120 – 130 euros. the gpu im gonna run is a RX 7800 XT 16gb
I have already thrown my 7800X3D in the trash, waiting for 9800X3D to arrive.
Finally a non-botched launch.
If only I had some spare coin to put some money into $AMD right now.
Idk if Intel wins or not …but Donald j Trump sure AF did!
WTF, how does a 5700x3D beats every Intel 9 and the new Intel Ultra 9, in some games?
Holy shit, AMD is cooking.
Who play games at 1080p these days?
Seriously RIP intel
Intel 2017: LOL AMD GLUE 🤣🤣🤣🤣
Intel 2024: AMD GLUE 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
So out of the whole year’s launch of cpus from 2 manufactuers there is only one that is even worth it.
Meh. Just barely faster than the 14900KS.
It’s so bizarre watching AMD owning every Intel processors. Because a decade ago it was in reverse with Intel dominating since the start and AMD was struggling as a company.
47th then to this, win win.
Since I saw the time stamps did not work, here it is. That is if Steve pins this comment.

With my 7950X 3D steel running like a champ and in 95 percent of situations not being maxed out for work and play I only see myself upgrading to the newer motherboards and memory
So does it make sense to go ahead and buy as soon as availible or should i wait for black friday.
I appreciate that you still have the 2600 and 2700 on the benchmarks, it’s the closest thing I’ve got to my TR2950x for reference. I’m thinking it might be time to upgrade.
At the small software startup I worked at in Raleigh North Carolina they loved the switch to threadripper Pro after years of using Xenon and Intel chips the IT department has praised the switch to AMD threadripper Pro it’s made their job a lot easier working within that ecosystem and even for the servers
still 14900k is the best cpu for the money because who plays at 1080p in 2024 omfg
Bro… where are the chapters in this video holy shit.
Did anyone benchmark the integrated gpu of 9800 x3d? Ican’t find any videos on it’s igpu.
i NEED these dice
I just bought the 7950x3d a few months ago 😢
Why would you want dice for “Magic the Gathering”, it’s a card game?
Can you guys actually do useful real world gaming benchmarks? This 1080p testing is useless for anyone with 4090 class parts.
Like the most important part of high end rigs, is if you avoid microstutter like the x3d chips are showing in your benchmarks with the poor 0.1% lows.
If this behavior persists, at higher resolutions, then the chips aren’t really the best for smooth gaming, despite higher avg FPS.
Your lack of frame time comparison with the 14900K part as well, makes it seem you are trying to hide stutter/AMDip.
But I am waiting for the ASRock nova 870x e reviews 😮
34:12 >> If The Core Ultra 9 285K proves be an efficient and stable workhorse (everything the 14900K wasn’t) The workstation market for high scale rendering is not small nowadays (content creation). I’d rather have a great workstation CPU that is okay for gaming, than the opposite. But it depends on what you need.
Intel might have made some mistakes, but the’re not dumb. They focused on making a top performing efficient CPU for Adobe Premiere etc. If it is 100% stable, it can be a huge succes.
(R9 5950X user here, who prefer efficiency due to power costs)
Dude AMD is insane rn
7800X3D & 9800 X3D is absolute monster in gaming, unbeatable back to back
Maybe making intel sweat wil force them to make strides on the response.
Awsome as always! But that makes me wonder. In an ITX case with a small cooler, would 9800x3D throtle more than the lower powered 9700x? since usualy the 3D part was more efficient due to cherry picking to withstand the cache blanket.
so, amd used the “steam train” logic to have a better cpu… “just add more coil” to have a powerfull cpu.
i under the 7800x3d performance with the same power consumption.
My question is who games at 1080p low and would buy a 500$ cpu?
Excellent work as always, really love the in depth analysis and also the full disclosure of details you’re not entirely sure about.
Can’t wait to get a video about memory and motherboard recommendations, setting etc!
“In gaming, Intel can not compete right now”
Looks like the glued chiplets got their revenge 😋😋
how is LoserBenchmark going to weasel its way out of this one?
When did CPUs get as expensive as gpus?
May I ask why you are using the Arctic Liquid Freezer 2 instead of the 3? I am planning on getting this CPU and the Liquid freezer 3. Was just wondering, tnx for the in depth review and all the hard work.
Before displaying the frame on your cool 240 Hz 4K monitor, the 9800x3d will have time to drink beer during breaks!
Now imagine this bad boy with 8400mhz memory. Oh baby!
Carolina’s Finest does it again the the triangle and Triads Best Kept Secret in Tech
Thanks for the test, but why is there no benchmark in 1440p in gaming ?
at 18:25 in the Warhammer 3 test the 9800X3D’s 1% and 0.1% lows are really good even though it’s gpu limited.
The Chromium compile chart at 26:37 indicates that the 3600 pulls ahead of the 5600X. I know these are old low-midrange parts, but that’s a surprising result that also contradicts the result from your initial 5600X review. Were these parts retested for this review?
I think the experimental chart, you were highlighting the wrong cpu
Will AMD deliver let’s say also 9900X3D as well?
Userbenchmark HQ explodes
From total ignorance: is expected the 9950X3D perform better in gaming than 9800X3D? or is it meant to be used for other stuff?.
Im going to get a new PC when the Nvidia 5000 series release and i kniw 9950X3D will release on Q1 so depending on the question above iw ill get one or another CPU
can i assume the idle powerdraw of this is one of the lower cpus?
I’m gonna bust lets go
My takeaway is, that there are no scenarios with performance penalty for x3d anymore, which might outway the scenarios with performance gain.
So the choice became easier.
Golf hole? hahaha
I highly appreciate GN still mention the real sleepers still the 5700x3D is crazy for the performance I got mines for 155$ and it hardly even bottleneck my 4080S💀
How much cheering on AMD does it pay? I want to get hired too to praise team red and hate on intel.
WHat r the LOWS ON total warhammer 3 Steve needs to make a note of that, its huge (the improvement)
Beautiful revenge for the AMD FX days
Now we wait on the ripoff, but best, 5090 review. Then… time to fiddle while Rome burns.
Been waiting on this CPU fot a while now for my next build. A CPU aint market ready until there’s a GN review.
Thanks for the wide array of tests!
Thanks Steve!
Im waiting for an Intel fanboy to come and defend arrow lake in gaming again😊
Red beat blue—I meant outside politics
Is it just me, or does the 7950X3D numbers not really look right?
Like yes, that CPU is a complete pain in the ass, but those benchmark results look like its behavior when the drivers aren’t installed and the game is just running on all 16 cores.
This may explain why they don’t bother to show the 7950X3D or 7900X3D in their other reviews.
In the 7800X3D review, the 7950X3D and 7800X3D were close in most benchmarks. I get that this review has different games and settings and it’s a year later, but that gap is way too big compared to the 7800X3D review.
Wanna make a small edit here, but Jay’s video also shows the 7950X3D being disappointingly low. Maybe something on AMD’s end?
Very nice improvements! Very good to see it. Phoronix also reported some good Linux benchmarks for it!
But what does this mean for Video Editors and Content Creators who use Adobe Suite?
have not owned anything amd since 2007, that is about to change
RIP intel
@GamersNexus , I’m a unique gamer. I primarily game in VR and in 4K. I’m guessing there are still minimal improvements regarding CPU upgrades? Are you planning on testing this CPU in VR and/ or 4K?
Love the channel!
and the 9800x3d can be overclocked. skys the limit
I love that a 2018 CPU (R7 2700) is hovering around the middle regarding efficiency. This is really not the kind of innovation as it was 20 years ago.
9800X3D Impressive CPU for gaming. But I see no reason to upgrade a gaming rig, if you’re on another X3D 8-core Ryzen. Especially the 7800X3D. Even the low priced Zen 3 based 5700X3D is holding it’s stance well in gaming.
Really makes me curious of how AMD will handle a 9950X3D. Because naively it appears they can create a somewhat pricey, double v-cache monster that’s just supreme at everything, now that they don’t have to limit frequency on v-cache CCDs.
7800X3D is still GOAT..!
5800X3D is best budget.. 🥰
neat
This + Mistakes by Intel + MH:Wilds’ Beta CPU bottlenecking = i’m buying a AMD CPU for my next build
I want one. Finally, a reason to upgrade from my i9-10850K @ 4801 Mhz. Now, if only I could afford a real GPU. Just saying.
Super nice review, thanks. Would be nice to incorporate more MSFS2020 benchmarks as it’s heavily CPU-bound, specially on airliners + max ground and building detail as all of those kill CPU very quickly, very few reviewers incorporate that, none with the special CPU-heavy settings.
9800x3d is on userbenchmark’s wanted list in their world for being slower than bulldozer fx 9500 5GHz and i7 2700k
What are the chances of non-X3D being ditched entirely not too long from now
Man these numbers are fucking insane. AMD really cookin right now lmao.
the sports talk at 35:00 💀💀 Thanks Steve!
I used to get stressed out every time there was a large performance increase, implying my hardware was one step closer to expiration, but nowadays it’s actually a relief.
For a second there Steve convinced me he actually knew a thing or two about football 😂
Where did you get those starcraft minis?
Baldur’s Gate 3 is far more memory sensitive than other games, so the extreme benefit of the strap on cache actually makes sense.
bruh what about cs2 😢
Wow, the simulation time for Stellaris is as wild as it gets. I make HOI IV videos and seeing that kind of simulation performance on a Paradox game is amazing, content creators that can afford that CPU will be so pleased. 🤯
hopefully zen 3 cpu prices will fall even further now. come ooooon sub $300 5950x and 5800x3d!
Hey, anyone wanna buy a used 7800x3d?
Those charts with cost comparisons with various prices are super useful, would gladly see those more often!
Never name a product “Ultimate” again, Intel.
We finally got a proper CPU this year. A first and a welcomed one!
Hit the like button just for the excellent unexpected sports knowledge I gained on this one
At this point cpus are becoming so fast that we need to start questioning how fast is too fast. Why would I spend so much money on a new hypothetical flagship if it is so overkill for what I want my gaming experience to look like? Let’s just hope that people don’t fall for “bigger number=better” consumerism, or the desire to show off. Don’t buy what you don’t need.
This just gave me the motivation to finally upgrade. Thank you Steve and the GN team for all the work you do for videos like these!
So the rummours are true, zen5 is held back by the IO die, sad, lets hope a 9950x3d comes out with both ccds having the cache die.
What a awful day to be team blue 😭
Me on my 13900KF : *sighs*
9800X3D is a beast 🔥🔥🔥
Can’t wait to get my hands on one
I appreciate what you do 🙏
Thanks for including all these CPUs, especially the 7900X im currently on. All the reviews I’ve seen so far, completely ignored that CPU.
With a little overclocking it should close the gap even further, making it actually a considerable decision for me
Wow. congrats amd on finally making a good gaming cpu 👏🏽
Good to see my 5600x still sitting amongst some more modern processors especially on efficiency.
Thanks Steve 1
any way I can find test data for my 5950X for the same tests you guys did?
Intel cant catch a break lol
How do these CPUs compare in idle power consumption? My PC runs 24/7 but basically 23h+ of that are small loads.
Thanks, Steve!
well goddamn…THERE’S your generational uplift.
I’ll hold on to my 7800x3d a bit longer, and am looking forward to upgrading my 6700xt.
Atm I got 3900 and thinking to go for 9800x3d as it really seems like a good jump in performance. The only question is what itx motherboard to go with 😅
Unrelated I’m glad Kamala lost, we can finally be unburdened by what has been 😂
Thank you for showing the 3700x on this graph. That’s what I’m hoping to upgrade from. This is a huge! Also thank you for using Starfield.
Really good to see bump in base Ghz, lower TDP/Temp and overall gain, though not substantial compared to 7800X3D, but still overall good package.. Will upgrade next year from my current 7700X running with 32GB/6400 CL32 along with 2TB Samsung 990 Pro & nVidia 3800Ti (hopefully will have budget to upgrade GPU as well).
It’s funny that nobody talks about 1% lows
Sooo, recommend upgrading if you already have the 7800?
i’m just happy my 5700x3d is still not that far off in the charts
7950x3D sucks that bad huh… Oh well, I’ll stick with it some more years. Not primarily for gooming anyways.
I left 1080p gaming back in 2016 I wish we could always look at some 1440p and 4k benchmarks from now on to compare, even tho it is gpu bound mostly
Watched all videos on Gamers Nexus for the new CPUs. Also watched all the CPU-themed videos on other YT channels. Everybody is talking about, gaming vs. production. What about CPU scores for combined gaming and production? Im doing both on my system: Heavy coding-related AI/ML and datascience projects, mathematical desktop app dev, and gaming. Unfortunately my questions are not being addressed anywhere. I could pull the scores from all videos myself, per CPU min max normalize the scores per gaming and production test separately, average the normalized scores for gaming and production separately , and then combine the scores to get a unified gaming-production performance score… But unfortunately a day only has 24 hours… 🙁
Cache rules everything around me
7:16 Why is there AVG VID for 78X3D and VID AVG for 98X3D? There are some shenanigans going on here.
There was a talk on Facebook where some dude who knew nothing blamed Intel’s massive losses on “Bidenomics.” I educated him with this video.
Every one Like amd just on youtube but intel have 80% take over the world in Laptops and pcs 😅
Ah yes, the results everyone was waiting for this morning.
@GamersNexus I’ve noticed the 5950X is missing from the charts. Is there a particular reason for that? I remember it having very good all-core efficiency.
It helps that it was ONE CPU…. and they knew they couldnt FUMBLE this one. End result? A GOOD LAUNCH! Wow AMD. Lets keep this up.
A new gaming king.
ive built computers for 11 years and AMD is trash and overrated. Theres a reason why most esports players use intel. 9800x3d is overpriced and is only good in games lol.
Maybe next year Intel can try with the 386 kuh…..wait a minute…
7600x3d video when??
Benchmarks on dice, I love it 🤣
AMD pilots flying the GN Sphere trench: “The guns… they’ve stopped!”
idle not fixed still more power for the same performance in games and more expencive to buy.. 7800X3D seems the better chip if cost per runtime matters to you… no wonder they made it scarce…
If I bought another Arctic Liquid Freezer III 360 Black would I need to use the AM5 offset brackets? Also when testing AM4 why don’t you use cl14 3600MHz memory and tighten the timings for extra fps or go for cl14 3800MHz that’s what I’ve been using with my Ryzen 7 5800x3d for 2 years not a single problem with direct memory cooling?
Hey Steve, with 1440p becoming the possible ‘new 1080p’, do you think its worth it to benchmark @ 1440p on these v-cache CPUs?
LisaSU is thinking to herself, karma intel…… right? 😜
where will 5700x3d be in these beast of CPUs. I am about to make my 1st build for the first time.
or I am just broke T_T
About to do a full system upgrade and I’ve been waiting on reviews for this one and man this sure is looking amazing. I’ll be upgrading from a 5800X so this should be fun. (also upgrading GPU from RX 6700 XT to an RTX 4080 Super, which will be even more fun)
No plans to build a new system in the next 18 months, my 5800X3D and 6900XT with 32GB 3600mhz are kicking arse still in all the games I play… and with FSR, RSR & FMF where needed… I’m getting well over 100fps in everything I play… Jedi Survivor and Red Dead Redemption being the 2 most recent one I’ve tried giving me just over 200fps avg. God of War Ragnarok and Horizon forbidden west giving me around 160fps.
But this review gives me hope for when I do decide on a new build. My only question then will be if I’m jumping on AM5 at the end of it’s cycle if AMD got for another release with an 11xx series (assuming the 10xx series will be fore mobile parts like with 6xxx and 8xxx)
end of intel
Nice ! Stellaris is in your benchmarks! Can we have more rep for us 4x players?
Hopefully this pushes the price of the 7800X3D down from the 500 EUR it is currently.
Steve, is that a beQuiet Lightbase 900 in the background? 😉
These hit their first good sale price and it will truly be RIP Intel.
INTEL RIP…
RIP INTEL HOLY MOLY
The 9950X3D will be the real rip intel.
RIP Intel
I want to say, I think the Total Warhammer 3 test is very interesting, because the 9800X3D crushes everything on that char when looking at the lowest framerates. Those are some insane gains there still. Of course those aren’t as valuable as long as those are well above a certain threshold, but seeing the 14900K as low as 30 fps seems insane when the lowest of the 9800X3D is 330.
Should I upgrade my 7800x3d for the new 9800x3d
Great review. Thank you for the work!
intel owner jews
14900k has a much higher .1% low in seige I wonder why that is but 9800x3d has .1% similar to 1% lows of 7800x3d In total war warhammer, i think these things are important and should be highlighted
7800x3d owners : I don’t want to play with you anymore.
they need to add the x3d cache to both chiplets in 9900x3d and 9950x3d
Can you add Pubg to your gaming benchmark’s?
Hey, there’s something weird with your data, why is the 7950X3D being outperformed by the 7950X in nearly every benchmark? Also seems much lower then it had been in your previous benchmarks.
Been using Intel CPUs since x386 🖥️ all the way to 12th Gen. AMDs 7800x3D had me questioning, but the 9800x3D ended the debate, dropped the mic 🎤 and walked off stage.
AMD kicked the shuttlecock for a home run on the opposing teams green.
I need this right now
Thanks Steve!
now Ryzen will be the next Nvidia. increasing their price when there is no competition.
this is the first X3D cpu that allows for overclocking. Steve, I don’t know if it would be possible, but I’d be so stoked if you were able to do another one of those liquid nitrogen overclocking streams again some time with the 9800X3D or potentially the 9950X3D when it comes out. I’d also be happy to see you with the AMD guys again like Bill and Amit
Wow, the Ryzen 9 7950X3D is still a great CPU – often topping the performance benchmarks of the 9800X3D
Just waiting for a 2 CCD ryzen with x3d cache on both CCD.
GN can I get info on which motherboard you used?
AMD did the right thing by “underselling” the 9800X3D before the reviewer benchmarks.
Yes this was the video I was dying for thanks Gamers Nexus and its furry CEO Snowflake
What has AMD glued together here ??
Maybe it is time to lay of some workers in the Intel fabs….
That experimental chart was just what I was thinking of: could you add to your website something that allows people to input the prices they have access to and outputs the price-equivalent values? It would make the data you produce relevant basically forever
Crazy that the uplift was so insane that you felt the need to double-check your testing lol. What a beastly part
Shame the 5950X got left off, there are many of us still on that chip.
now if only we can get these result from the Radeon division but they keep shooting themselves in both feet
This makes me VERY interest in a future 9950X3D. I need those threads for coding, but also want even better gaming performance than what my 7950x gives (even though it *is* still pretty good).
I just wish they’d go with the 3D V-Cache on BOTH CCDs for it to make scheduling not *as* screwy.
Amd shill
Great review, as always! However, why not include idle power consumption in these benchmarks as well?
35:03 The CPU to the right bothers me.
At this point, AMD is competing against itself… and Apple.
Back to you Steve
So if the 9800x3d performs 2-3 times more fps than the Ryzen 7 2700, I wonder how my Xeon e5 2697v3 is holding up.
29:13 this is real bad comparison. Using medium on 1080p, that’s not real world scenario. I get why, but as with cinebench which doesn’t translate into gaming and software, same with this. Alongside 1080p, use also 1440p and 4K with high and very high for comparison.
no chapters?
Thank you to Steve, and the entire GN team! This has been a joy to watch. 😀
Take my money!
Awesome work! Thank you for all the time and effort.
cool
So it’s great but if you have the 7800X3D you don’t really need to update unless I’m double twitchy and must have….
RIP also the 5700/5800X3D and all other non x3d zen 5s
Came for a CPU Review, left with a job at Meta.
Intel dead with 61% market share.
Am I the only one not impressed with this CPU? Seems literally just a 7800X3D with more performance simply because it uses more power, and the gains aren’t even linear in most cases since the 7800X3D and even the 5700X3D outperform the 9800X3D per watt used.
@34:30 😂
Total War Warhammer III, benchmarked on medium settings. You guys have no ideea what you are testing and that is a flawed method since you have way less units on screen than with unit size on Ultra, also the Mirror Of Madness is a way better CPU test than the Battle benchmark.
I wouldn’t be too bothered about the power being consumed. But I don’t know enough about the increased voltage. Is that likely to have any impact on overall life time or is it still well within tolerances?
Ty gamersnexus for testing 9800x3d with the 4090 on 1080p. Not to mention couple of them on 1080p medium…
I dont get it. I truly dont.
None of the gaming benchmarks here mattered to me at all.
I’m curious if you guys have rerun the 7950X3D since they released all the chipset updates and since it came to light that running Non-Dual CCD X3D chips in the system can cause the scheduler to not run or maybe even not get installed and therefore cause the 7950X3D to massively underperform. That would explain it’s position in Stellaris in your current charts.
I hope the 7800x3D drops soon. Been waiting to pick one up. Also why wasn’t the 7600x3D included? Lack of time?
Loved Steve’s attempt at sporting analogies lol
What a day today is, anyone who’s rooting for Team Blue both in tech hardware as well as in politics needs a lot of calming tea today while Team Red are having a blast
I game at 4k so guessing my 13900k is till fine. Also, will they be making a 9950X3D?
The BG3 performance is illegal.
I don’t play tabletop, I don’t need a dice, I don’t need a dice, I don’t need it, I don’t need it…
The price of the 7800x3d has done nothing but climb for the last three months. Im glad i bought when i did cuz the price went up $30 the next day and $100 in total since. (Aud that is)
Have been waiting for a new X3D Gen time to upgrade from 5800X3D to 9800X3D, Thanks Steve
YouTube and Google need to go fuck themselves on this video, just got served an unskippable 40 sec video ad for Chrome OS. They better be paying out that adsense money if they’re gonna fuck with your video like that
ONLY 643FPS in Rainbow Six ???? How do you want me to play at that low framerate?
Hopefully next gen x3d will just be the default
Are they doing the same thing as the 7000 series where they’re sacrificing temperature for better power draw? In that case, will there be another round of ‘Eco mode’ settings which cool things off? I always thought that strategy was interesting.
Its good that AMD managed to get a good 9000 series product out, put a little more of a fire under intel hopefully. That being said? still feeling pretty damn good about my $360 7800xd upgrade when the first disappointing non x3d 9000 reviews dropped. Sure not top dog anymore, but one hell of a value all things considered
Damn it! if somebody would make a video decoder to pair with an AMD CPU!!!
5800x3d is goated, I hope it can stay relevant until at least 2030 (for 4k gaming at least :D)
Absolutely crushing.
This throws me off a bit… The X3D is the king atm, but the 9700X looked like it was competing the in the production aspect of certain loads at a much cheaper price.
So for gaming only: X3D.
But with the increase in people who stream, how does that render when you’re doing both simultaneously?
Same with recording?
Or for my household: Watching a 4k GamersNexus video on projection while blowing something up?
Hey Nexus I know you tested cities skylines 2 back when it launched a year ago I was wondering if you could include it in your CPU reviews since it can be a very heavy CPU game since it’s a simulation specially when you have huge populations. I’m trying to figure out whether I’m better off getting x3d or more cores for this particular game. Thank you
34:31 “AMD fumbled the ball and lost 5 yards, Intel then picked the ball up and started running towards its own goal”, you don’t have a “goal” in American football, it’s called an end-zone.
the more cash the better, eh. peoples business is cons-piracy theory for God. only so that you know. cpu stuff can be simulated on gpu compute kernels.
It is AMAZING how much AMD is beating Intel by these days.
Despite the fumble that was the Zen5 launch for the 9000-series processors, this is WAYYY better.
Both of my 5950X compute nodes and my 7950X compute node is happily chugging along though.
Add Age of Mythology: Retold to your game tests.
Since it’s an RTS, a good addition for testing CPUs;
It’s also so RTX heavy that it brings PCs to their knees more than CP77 fully Pathtraced, so will definitely test GPUs.
As a bonus, it has an in-built Benchmark.
let AMD cook!
Rest in pieces really goes well now that Intel gone full chiplet
(The only thing I can imagine userbenchmark trying to smack talk the 9800X3D now is probably something like “it doesn’t have an NPU”)
blows my mind how intel still managed to bring in 7bln $ in the last quater selling cpus!
Bought a 7800X3D around $350 so I’m still good on a cost per FPS … for now😎
Seems like all reviewers were re-checking their runs to make sure the 285K was indeed *that* bad. All all of them are retesting the 9800 to make sure it is this good.
I played game always in 4K, and sometime do productivity and multi tasking job. so which processor should i buy? ryzen 7 7800x3d, core ultra 9 285K, or ryzen 9 9950X?
Computers are being made great again today, wink-wink.
Text within all of the charts is completely messed up. Like the image was upscaled using some wonky algorithm that destroys edges.
It’s especially bad on the X, which is pretty troubling considering how often it occurs here…
Edit: Oh, and not to be an a-hole; yet another great review for the books. Thanks Steve (and crew!).
Saw this posted on reddit, switched to tablet for the bigger screen and without thinking i typed “tech jesus” into youtube, first result is Gamers Nexus channel, Nice.
Great CPU!
I’m happy there is finally a good CPU launch this year.
Niche’s Collide! Love it. Ordering now
Touch down.
Home run.
Slam dunk.
Golf hole!
This is a bloodbath. Christ.
PPW not as good as the 78X3D, not sure if it’s worth it. Depends on the price ig.
wayyyyy too much talking, video could easily be 10 min shorter, btw video starts at 2:58.
So Zen 5 is indeed a good platform let down by the IOD.
I’m 99% sure I’m getting the 9950X3D. The 285K wouldn’t make much sense.
40minute video and no 1440p benchmarks or 4k? Whats going on here?
9800X3D is only “better” because it has more power going through it. It’s just an overclocked 7800X3D.
Very disappointing technological improvement from AMD. Intel is just garbage in comparison.
And how about the OMSI 2 game?
Man, I’m definitely dumping my intel motherboard next year, should’ve never built into intel to begin with last year! Now I have to find a new ATX/EATX AMD motherboard sigh!
Thanks Steve, from Intel’s video 😂
I’ve been with Intel for over 15 years, so now it’s AMD’s turn.
Really wish the AMD cpu team could do their magic to the gpu side since.
Blud was in a hurry to upload. Forgot to add time stamps 😭
AMD 2700 beats intel 14th gen for efficiency 😉
Can’t wait to see how user benchmark is gonna spin this one, a garanteed clown show
Ohhhh yeah, glad I waited a couple days on my upgrade, going from my 9600k to the 9800x3d is going to be NUTS!
nothing will change , intel will cock block it with bribing dell and hp not use this cpu no more than in 5% systems , bestbuy , walmart , micro center , all have 95% builds with intel cpus .
only diy are gonna buy this cpu . cant beat intel bribes
So is every hardware reviewer going to act like this thing smashes? It has less of a valley than the 7800X3D and 5800X3D did. I’ve never had my energy mismatch Steve’s so much.
i’m just getting the news, intel has reportedly started packing its bags full of all of their wasted sand and shipping it out to local beaches in an effort to reclaim some media attention? crazy. anyways.
UserBenchmark lost 30 years worth of lifespan between Intel’s new gen fiasco and the 9800X3D results 😂
Gonna be happy with my 5800X3d for a while
I so sad for intel
23:45 – Steve, here is your friendly reminder to breathe from time to time 🤣
Not this week’s only crushing victory
i finally found my cpu
IS the video even worth watching anyway? The 7800X3D demolished Intel’s best in games and with Zen 5% it can only be better.
Trump wins and AMD releases the best CPU ever made all on the same day, this is a red letter day.
a ONE equals “critical miss”.
The dice have spoken!
No black ops 6 benchmark 😢😢
I hope I live long enough to see Rainbow 6 hit 1,000+ fps lol
it is so nice to see the efficiency graphs they give very nice insight for lower performance cpus
ok so the R9 is the way to go. Gotcha.
When the intel oxidation issue arose, I began considering AMD for my next build. At the time the issue became public, 7800x3d was roughly $310 – 350 and figured I could wait for cyber monday sales to buy and build next PC. When the new intel cpus were reviewed and made fun of, 7800x3d jumped to $450 and demand soared. Demand is still high, I don’t think 7800x3d price will drop this year.
I’m kinda getting worried. If Intel doesn’t get it together this may be the last really good CPU for a while.
Is this real? A… genuinely interesting modern PC hardware release?
We’ve been blessed…
embargo lifted yesterday, get with the times!
I see REDS won two times today
Something feels off with the results of your 7950x3D compared to the results of Hardware unboxed… For instance in starfield they have almost the same results for the 7800x3D and the 7950x3D, with them having the 7950x3D in 3rd place for the gaming average, very close to the 7800x3D. Here it does not seems to be the case at all
Wait… So is it overclockable? And what effect does PBO have, if it’s enable-able?
I guess NVIDIA will start optimizing for AMD from now on.
Could you have soldered on some RGB leds to the inductors and then had a wireless power unit in the base of the box so that when you rolled the dice they lit up? Also how do you put the smd inductors in the dice without the weight affecting the outcome of the roll? Either way they look very high quality.
Let’s go!
Wow… didn’t expect 9800x3d to be 30 percent more fps in some games. Amazing.
Still glad I got my 7800x3d for 369 in March. I upgrade at 10 or 11 series lol
W
I have an 8086k rn, I wonder how much of an uplift I’ll see when I upgrade to this tomorrow
I know this a cpu benchmarking, but for someone looking to get an am5 board with a new cpu, would going 9700x be the better buy for 1440p?
Dude, you can’t just show off a die set that’s refractive, metallic, and has cats in it and expect me to make a financially sound decision! I don’t even play D&D and I’m already considering going hungry for a few days!
Great coverage mr Burke, thank you! 😀
No 5900X on charts :/
Ahhh I should have known you’d have tested the dice for fairness this is GN after all 😀
Counter-Strike2 BENCHMARK ????
Did you forget to add video sections? Otherwise superb work as always!
If only AMD had launched this (a few days earlier) in Halloween the memes would be funnier 🙂
The low 0.1% dips is still present, those stutters in games are all due to that. Max frames and anything thats not 1% or less is irrelevant.
Not surprised the 9800X3d came out ahead – it has extra “cash” on it (according to subtitles) 😉
And here i thought my 9800 X3D will be king for a bit longer. They really quickly released the X3D processor this generation, compared to previous.
expetation: I can finally play all the great modern shooters in 240 FPS
reality: Nice, black mesa runs in 800 fps
Cool getting the 9900x for $360 upgrading from a 5900x. Good middle upgrade with power efficiency and good game fps boost and great productivity uplift as well. Thanks GN!!!!
Well, as much as a disaster this day otherwise was, at least we get a good new CPU.
Cannot wait for the 9950X3D… just wish it had 4 memory channels rather than 2 ;_;
where is 4k benchmarks ???? this gonna look bad when switch 2 release running 1080p at 120fps
How old is Snowflake at this point?
Intel really dropepd the ball this year. Guess I’m getting an 9800X3D
Brutal slaying… I havent seen anything like this since Athlon Thunderbird… I ALMOST feel bad for Intel, almost.
Even the non 3d is fine for the 9k models… since avx-512. That alone is a big+ for the 9k models you never touched on. Things that use it get a nice boost.
Thank you, Dice Kits, for the new and experimental charts.
9800X3D vs. 7800X3D with the same power limits, please.
The fact that they undersold the performance of their own parts is hilarious. They just HAVE to fuck something up..
I will upgrade from i7 11700 this year. I have a 4090 and play in 4k, will this CPU with a DDR5 memory make any difference?
Sick dice!
seeing the Ultra 9 285 on that list BELOW their own 2 generation old chip is… ouch. User-Bench in shambles
Lets take some time to acknowledge the talent of the engineering teams at AMD that produced this product. Its an absolute beast of a gaming cpu, with efficient power use, and a reasonable price.
I can finally upgrade my 5ghz 8700k
but I wonder if offset coolers like arctic liquid freezer 3 will be affected by the new layout or you can just install the mounting upside down
For gaming, will it make sense to wait for the 9900 and 9950X3D to release or, they will have the same issues as 7900/7950X3D and end up performing worse than the 9800X3D?
Really impressive CPU, might just press that Buy button..!
Can’t wait for my 9800X3D!❤🍀
Do the dice have coil whine?
This is the CPU if you want to upgrade to AM5!
Intel rolling a nat 1, at least they are consistent
Have you guys tried testing the 285k with cudimms? Might give different fps for the intel cpus!
Only for gaming though. Not good with apps. Prefer more well rounded cpus.
I so want someone to CPU test football manager as that game is a CPU killer. If they ever release the latest version that may be a good test. Lol
88w powerlimit + uv will be great
This bit about a cat being the CEO is completely unfunny.
Dropped harder than US election results.
Why are all these test in 1080p? With low settings why not do realistic test with decent res and graphics then let us know how they preform?
I feel a 9800x3d with a 5080 @ 1440p 2k will be the sweetspot soon, offering high fps, ultra settings, high refresh rates etc
The 7950x3d Results in many of the FPS Charts are broken Steve. The Scheduler was not using the X3D Cores which is very obvious and it always hurts to see that its still not fixxed in the charts. Thanks Steveeeee 😀
Insert: “Coffin lake, intel inside” meme
Nice Job AMD!!! Looks good!!!
Like dejavu.. This Intel case is similar to the AMD phenom II era towards the new generation of AMD FX and it turns out that the performance is not much different, even some situations are disappointing. Bravo AMD makes a nightmare for Intel core 😅
Is it time to upgrade from a 5900x covid cpu ya’ll? 1440p ultrawide.
I have a 5800X3D and i am surprised how well that cpu aged. The V 3D cache technology was a game changer
The “Go Sports Ball!” bit at 35:00, LOL
Always appreciate that you include turn times in so many of your reviews!
Intel killed themselves with Ultra even before X3D comes out.
lol, where 7900 without x?
Is this faster than the M4 macs?
Thanks for another awesome review. Why no 5950X in the newer charts?
finally, a new CPU that is not disappointing for the year 2024
Intel rolled a critical failure
The cpu is amazing, but it also reveals that the 4090 has more performance to give!
Steve, should i wait for Black Friday or do you think they will sell out of this batch before Black Friday?
RIP my wallet😂
I’m not here for the expert reviews, the detailed graphs, or informed opinions. I’m here for the sports knowledge 😅.
Steve… BREATHE! 6:59
Looks like I will be swapping out my 8700k for AMD. I was waiting the last 6 months to see what each company would drop. I already got a new gpu not too long ago and I am well and truly tired of my CPU being my bottleneck now. Does mean I need a new motherboard.. I need GN advice on MOBO for this cpu!
What do the numbers look like at 1440p? I’m on a 12900k with DDR5 and contemplating an upgrade. I primarily play FFXIV with a 6950xt.
I understand why the benchmarks are done in 1080p. However, most gamers game at 1440p or 4k which is more video card. It would still be nice to see what the scores are compared to others at 4k.
The king is dead. Long live the king.
Hot dang. Happy to be proven wrong here. Good to see actual gains for gaming
I wonder how this would have performed on the monster hunter wilds beta. Too bad it’s already over.
Das Produkt ist total enttäuschend.
More precisely, you are being paid by the same corporations for such titles under the videos… I always knew that you would sell your mother for money.
Damn it Steve, I told J2C that you’d have better tests.. do people still use 1080p monitors with brand spanking new CPUs and games?
Hopefully this means the 7800X3D prices will again drop…
ok.. this is a good CPU yes. But WTF is that (7)5800X3D made of? magic?
Thanks for this
AMD buying out or merging with Intel would be the ultimate rags to riches saga
So what kind of RAM to buy for the 9800X3D?
Nice this is super exciting to see for once. Feel like good news was needed in light of other headlines.
he Final nail in the coffin for Intel when it comes to gaming CPU’s, whelp look like my friend was right on passing up on the 7800x3d to wait for the 9800x3d…
looks like from a gaming perspective he made the right choice and I made the wrong one from selling my 12900k to get the 14900k when I could have kept my 12900k.
but so far I have no issues with my 14900k and I went with it because I do 3d design and video editing and not just gaming and needed more performance on that front.
also avoided the Bullet of not getting intels new platform which will probably only be one generation and focusing on AI and not even faster than my 14900k in the 285k ultra.
I saw a rumor that the 9950x3D should release on CES 2025. Do you think that AMD learned from 7950x3D and it will be the top of the stack for gaming CPUs or will 9800x3D remain the king?
I think I finally found the upgrade I wanted to move to DDR5. In line or beats my 12900K for productivity, and wrecks gaming performance.
It’s better but not really good enough to replace your 7800X3D with a 9800X3D. It does … kinda… suck in that regard. A bit more performance at the cost of more power, this effectively is 13th gen.
dropping to many random sponsor/ads… wtf
It’s interesting to me how much power some people need or make use of. I “upgraded” from a 2700X to a 6800H and I usually don’t even use 40% of it
Would be interesting to see if the performance per Watt can be pushed closer to the 7800X3D with custom settings, first and foremost keeping it from boosting so high!
Why would I ever consider buying intel instead of amd? There is really no reason….
Can we get Steve another set of lungs so he can finishes his sentences without almost dying of asphyxiation? 😅
So, … I am going to buy the 5700X3D now? 🤔
I normally watch YT on 1.5 speed cause my time is valuable but for tech reviews/news worthy vids, normal speed for GN 🍻
Any crashes on 14900K ?
glad i went with 7800x3d. f intel.
Team Red is going wild! Hope that’s not a future $ problem for us.
W
I eagerly await to see what User Benchmark says about the 9800X3D, and how it’s 20 to 50% slower than the 285K.
Intel is just been beaten and buried.
I’ve been using the same MOBO since 2017 (1700X -> 5700X). I think it’s time to upgrade!
Well this is the best thing about my day.
I need crazy thumbnails like Linus
It’s 2024… how about we fucking start to benchmarking 4k aside the stupid 1080p?
I can only imagine what level of mental gymnastics the folks at UserBenchmark are going to put themselves through to gloss over another Intel L
Intel is always better in heart no matter what the spenders talk
Do we have a time frame for when the 9800X3D comes out? like 9am EST on the 7th or?
Is there a reason why the Rainbow Siege 0.1 percent lows are so low for AMD (and Arrow Lake) vs Intel 13th/14th gen?
More importantly, is it actually noticeable in game?
There’s no way you are testing the 7950x3d the right way. My numbers are way higher than that. I bet you are still not using process lasso, the xbox game bar sucks ass.
Sooooooo… Its a 7800X3D but just better??? Hmm i like it.
Thanks Steve for the review !!
It would be really helpful to see relative performance of this and say the Intel 14900k in Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 (or even MSS 2024, in a couple of weeks). I am not sure that many people will be considering the 285k at this stage, so 13th or 14th generation Intel might be the better comparator.
I knew this would be a top performer but couldn’t pass up getting a 7800X3D, X670E, and 32GB DDR5 for $515 from Micro Center. Great to see X3D continuously improving and will definitely be upgrading to a later one as a drop in upgrade. Here’s to AM5 getting as much support as AM4!
The collective amnesia of the Zen 5 launch and complete bullshit of the 9950x chip being “the fastest gaming cpu” collectively while we all lose our minds over a $480 8 core chips is just wild. Yeah Intel screwed up but holy shit AMD lied a lot more with their launch. In no universe should an 8 core chip with some v memory cache be this expensive; probably more since scalpers are gonna buy them all up. Fine times we are living in. Also no new video cards and you can’t find any 4080 or 4090s except from scalpers. Great time to need to build a new rig. Worst computer enthusiast timeline ever.
Danke, Stefan
AMD! You didn’t screw up a launch! Good jeorb!
The test date of the 13600K in 17:00 seems wrong? But still great video as always.
Pretty good Productivity benchmarks. It is a much better option than 7800X3D.
Amd should put ten cores in each ccd of the next generation.
Both Steves are in agreement today.
it would be interesting to see zen 5 and its x3d part undervolted and overclocked and see how it performs
“AMDs Ryzen 79800X3D”? God damn that’s a totally super saiyan chip!
So ridiculous it makes the 4090 be the bottleneck in 1080p
Seriously consider including CS2 benchmarks.
Top 3 most played games on steam for over a decade, one of the only true esports other than chess and CPU heavy performance.
Yet siege (a less popular, almost dead game) gets benchmarked? I understand that there isn’t quite a uniform way to benchmark CS as it doesn’t have a built in tool but there are community maps and even just playing a deathmatch or something would be useful.
seeing how many people are just interested in x3d versions tells me that most of the people only play games on their pcs…
‘A competent lunch’ The new ‘Better than dell’. Wp AMD. That thing looks like they might sell some.
New Gaming King has arrived.
Can U test it with 1440p and 4K please? Because in real life no one will play games on 1080 with this CPU and the test with 1080 is useless….
“Golf hole” ~I literally spit out my coffee from laughing.
Something I don’t fully understand – I often play games with other applications running on my computer. A video playing, Discord calls and some streaming (both streaming my own screen and watching my friends’ screens), and a web browser open. Would the 9800X3D still show such strong gaming performance compared to other processors in this kind of more multi-tasking gaming scenario?
DEVASTATING, RIP INTEL
Having extra cash on you is always nice))
i m currently siting on 5900x cpu and i m gonna upgrade mu gpu to rtx5090 and i m gonna get 240hz oled 4k screen so i m wondering if there is any reason i should upgrade the cpu as well i play loads of mmos and strategy games so i m wondering if it is worth it or not?
So not only is it faster in games compared to its non-3d sibling but for mumticore workload its almost as fast. Win-win combo
Ryzen 9 5950x missing
New to AMD nameshemes, will there be a 9950X3D aswell, and is that better than the 9800X3D when it comes out? Or how does that work? Thanks!
thats the price they re now paying for selling quad cores for so long 😀
I still think your efficiency test should be framelimiting the games to 60fps, and then measuring how much total power the cpus consume in a 5-10 minute span in each given game. Maybe then repeat that at 80 or 100 fps. FPS/W is so abstract, it doesn’t tell me anything when the fps also differs so heavily between cpus.
If two cpus have the same theoretical FPS/W, but both are gpu limited in a non 4090 pc, they might not scale down the same,
Microsoft fly simulator forgot to test, very CPU demanding game
Welp this was even better than i expected. We have a new nr. 1. But at this point, the 7800X3D can be considered GOATED. Almost like the 1080Ti
I don’t know about anyone else, but the main question on my mind this entire video and one sadly that wasn’t addressed…….
Does it react positively to being overclocked and pushed more?
I hope Intel comes back, I’m not under any illusion that AMD are the good guys and will not increase prices if they win too much
you need to start testing with the 4060 16gb and the 7600 xt 16gb because a test with a 4090 is not realistic, only 5% of the people can afort it and if it works good with the lowest cards then its good and if not its shit
It there a game that comes with the dice? Wondering, because the price is quite an investment just for dice. Although it is a nice case.
the lack of factorio benchmark is a shame.
it’s not like it’s a niche game anymore at this point. it hit 9th most played game on steam recently, and is 18th at the time of writing.
that’s a lot higher than a lot of the games you chose to benchmark.
It’s insane that in many good games you only realistically need 50-60fps, because frame gen can get you to smothness.
Makes me wonder when I’ll actually have to retire my 5800X3D
Thank god they actually numbered it correctly so we know what the next generation is called, unlike whatever the fuck Intel is doing these days.
Lol 1080p, then 1080p low/ med, what a waste of time
I don’t even play D&D and I kind of want to buy those dice.
So I heard you like frames.
9800X3D – “yes”
Snowflake the cat is cute. Made my day.
Will you do some overclocking with it since it’s unlocked now? Thanks for the content!
I hope the 9950x3d is also so impressive. My 5950x still crushes it just fine, but it would work great as a gift to a friend needing a new pc if there’s finally a reason to actually upgrade.
If Intel go bankrupt, AMD’s CPU’s will cost way more. That would be really bad news for gamers!
RIP Intel-AMD: AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU Review & Benchmarks vs. 7800X3D, 285K, 14900K VS APPLE M4,M4 PRO..
Love the dice… But I know I would immediately lose one. Will you sell individual replacement dice?
Smoking on that Intel pack
Thanks Steve
The monster seems to be the 4090. If there’s a faster CPU than the 9800X3D, it may still have some room up there for fps improvements.
Finally! A next gen CPU that acts like it
My only question is: buy it immediately or wait for the 9950X3D?
Will the 5700x3d drop in price now? Im looking to upgrade.
4:50 Wait 😀 what is this Mandela effect, where is the 5800X3D?
I wish you have the APU performance reviewed to since i want to buy it and wait for next gen GPU at January instead of buying current gen GPU.
A great video but any difference at 4k. i realise you have to use a technology from the 90s, yes the 90s, at 1080p to bottle neck the cpu however, i dont really care . Stating how amazing it is, doesnt represent reality where most use 1440p. ( and dont quote me steam results where they include all the Chinese internet cafes) Can some show 4k…please?
AMD: rolls a 20 for business
Scalpers: roll a 20 for initiative on buying all the stock
Unrelated to the 9800x3d, but the benchmark at 11:50 has the 5600x3d pulling a decent lead over the 5700x3d and id like to know why that is
That bg 3 result, wow 👀
very solid results! perhaps a hot take, but i’d love higher 1% lows. i’d take a 30% cut to avg fps if it meant a 15% boost in 1% lows.
9800x3d is a def a buy for me to upgrade from am4 and 5950x
Looks like christmas comes early this year
I like big CACHE and I cannot lie…
Probably an asinine idea, what would happen if you normalize the wattage for the 9800x3d and the 7800x3d to do an efficiency and performance test when they pull the same power.
How to sht on companies for no reason 👍
seems to be about 15% faster than the 7800x3d and lower overall efficiency so probably not worth upgrading
with a mild undervolts its gonna be an SFF very wet dream
Who ever stuck by the 5800X3D saved so much money, and are laughing at all of us haha.
It costs way too much for a cpu just for gaming, but good for a high end waste of money build I guess.
yaaay, now i can have more fps playing with my 2k dollars 4090 at games in FULL HD!! wooohooo
Not only does Intel do worse but they require a new motherboard too, hell nah AMD all the way!
Glad to see my 5700x3d might be good for gaming for awhile
Thanks for measuring baldurs gate 3 with 9800x3d. No one have done that. super thanks
Influencers are paid handsomely to promote overpriced niche products X3D
All hail the new king
This is a bloodbath. Nevermind Intel, even 7800X3D got destroyed.
Thank you
1080p and 4090 🤦♂️😂
480 western currency units feels quite expensive for an 8 core CPU… but i suppose Intel’s 200 “”Ultra”” line makes it look reasonable again considering the 9800X3D appears to be the champion in gaming for now.
well… i hope this one is still gonna be available and priced around MSRP when i’ll be ready to upgrade my stuff in a couple months. i would probably try to slow down the 9800X3D just a little, though, to see if i could shift the balance back towards efficiency without ruining its performance uplift to the degree where a 7800X3D would be just as good
im still on am4, but this chip would be a very good reason to finally switch to am5
Team Red continues to win no matter the industry.
So AMD is no longer competing with nVidia in the high-end, and Intel CAN’T compete at all, unless we count the very budget GPU market. AMD is in every console, almost every handheld, and now completely owns the middle of both the CPU and GPU markets. If I had a big chunk of money, I’d put every last penny into AMD stocks, and become a very rich man. I went full Team RED in ’17, and it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
Is this changing of the stack order going to change coolers? Like arctic, Noctua and everyone else that’s doing offset mounting? Or just regular coolers in general.
Well now I know that I do want to upgrade my CPU/Mobo/Ram for sure and what I want to upgrade it to. Thanks for the review Steve.
The Fall and Rise AMD 💰😎
The Rise and Fall Intel 💸💀
Thanks Steve
You know as someone who owns a 7950X3D with a 4090 strix and 6000mhz cl30 ddr5 , i have never gotten anywhere near the low fps thats in this entire video where basically you have put the cpu as some sorta bottom / mid feeder in a 1080p low benchmark test, when i get a consistent 100+ fps in Starfield in a 3440*1440 resolution with all eye candy on 😂 i feel like you need to have another look at your test bench setup.
Can it be cooled using air cooler? Like 7800x3d? Will ak620 or peerless assassin be enough?
It’s quite obvious that AMD is focusing alot of effort to make cache chips viable down their product stack. It wouldn’t surprise me if their next generation will start to include them across the board while giving their flagship multiple of them. It makes sense once you realise how much cache is on the main chip just because Dram has high latency.
Seems like i don’t need to go for ddr5 yet 5800x3d is still awesome cpu. 😀
MAN my MICROCENTER warranty is looking juicy this spring. 13900k begone!
Take note… is better for 1080p monitors… for 2k and 4k monitors and players… theres no difference or intel is better…
im happy with my 7800x3d for a long time but gz on any who were able to wait 😀 (my old laptop exploded so i made a pc XD)
NOT BAD FOR A GLUED TOGETHER CPU.
Can you include Simulation performance in Cities Skylines 2? highly interesting.
Thanks, Steve!
Thanks for the review! Very promising. I’d be curious to see CPU benchmarks for Helldivers 2 and especially Satisfactory since it’s pretty CPU-heavy. I think they have a benchmark built-in but if not then you’d need a teat save
Finally something to get excited about again!
R-I-P-I-N-T-E-L, sell your stock its RIP INTEL! (to the tune of Hot To Go!)
Why compare gaming at 1080p using RTX4090? Not real world.
I’m glad that this generation got at least one product that may rouse consumer interest. Who knows, maybe the next one will even have two or three processors worth remembering.
AMD 👑❤
That was very cache money of AMD
Intel did make an IMO good shift to get rid of hyperthreading, which means they’re now less susceptible to any Spectre/Meltdown-type attacks.
It’s awesome the consumer is getting performance from cpu’s like this but I worry that because of the recent intel failings AMD is going to become a monopoly and saying RIP Intel in the title is feeding into that, almost gleefully ripping intel is something I’ve noticed about GN in recent videos which projects an AMD bias imo. I like GN and HWU you guys have helped me make some good hardware choices over the years but recently it’s almost like people want Intel to continue to fail and are now catering to AMD fans whereas we should praying for intel to bounce back because when one company gains a monopoly over something that generally means we the consumer will pay the price literally!
FYI before anyone calls me an intel shill I’ve been pc gaming for close to 20 years and never even owned an intel, my first pc was an Athlon then upgraded continuously from a fx 8350, 3600, 5600 to my current 5900x. I just detest biases and companies having a monopoly.
not bad but not good i prefer Intel
There are still “hardcore professional competitive gamers” that still want to buy Intel on Intel and hardware subs which is pretty cringe, especially when these are the same people that say they play FPS in 720p high/1080p low on GTX4090.
Now they are saying 285k with 8000MT CUDIMM with only 1P core enabled and all E cores overclocked can easily beat 7800X3D in gaming…
Maybe Steve can look into this 1P core all E core best gaming CPU theory that’s going on on Intel subs.
You love to see the x3d dominance
AMD actually had a good launch, Intel is cooked🤣
Babe wake up, steve just dropped the new x3d video.
Oh yeah upgrade time!
Been waiting for this video, thanks!
Thanks for the great video GN. Hope to see a live LN2 overclocking stream.
Never forget HUB used 65W on 9700 after AMD made it 105W, admittedly to force price drops and didn’t think the x3d would have any gains after scamming the review.
Is it ture? Is it finally safe to upgrade from my 5800x3D??
Cannot wait to see Threadripper & Threadripper 3D 9,000 series now Zen 5 3D is a monster.
Should have added 2k/4k benchmarks as well to demonstrate that those who game in higher resolutions have very little reason to upgrade from 7800X3D.
I just upgraded from a 2013/14 😐🫡
Hi from India why we buy 500 dollars cpu only for gaming that made not any sense in this situation 265k is clear winner because of their application uses i think most of the people are made to saw only gaming 😂😂
This is not good. The gap in gaming performances between AMD and Intel is now huge, and we need competition if we want to have fair prices in the future.
They changed whole Zen5 architecture just so X3D worked even better than before 🙂
I love how the two Steve’s came together and produced the same thumbnail. One true Steve will be shown soon
Intel is cooked
“Thanks a LOT, Steve.”
AMD is just vibing hard in the club, and Intel can’t even get in. This is sad. We do actually need competition!
Im surprised Intel hasnt done their own version of 3D Cache yet.
Aaaand the 5700X3D still won at just $187 today
I will upgrade from an Intel Xeon E3-1231 v3.
The dice roll was the cherry on top
I got a decent price on a 7950x3d. Glad to see some decent moves on the new chips.
Well i guess i know my next build then. ^^
AMD really needs to make X3D standard at least on the ryzen 7 and up given that it now has little downsides compared to past implementations.
I expected the 9800X3D to have lower efficiency than the 7800X3D. The removed temperature restriction means more voltage.
AMD is impressive. Intel needs to wake up and fast. Cant wait for the next AMD GPU generation to see what they did there. Iam really happy with my 6700xt but iam looking to upgrade next year 😛
Both Steves RIP Intel. Wow.
So the instant I see the Stellaris chart, my very first question was, is the 9700X running at stock? In other words, while it’s now losing to the 9800X3D, that’s at 120W while the 9700X is running at it’s 65W TDP?
Breaking news. Intel abandons x86 to focus on arm.
It’s nice to finally have something nice for PC hardware in 2024.
Thanks Steve. Seeing as the 5950x I got right now is using even more power in gaming I don’t really see the power draw here as being an issue. My 5950x pulls about 120-140 W in Cyberpunk 2077 so this will still be a solid upgrade on the efficiency front.
A new king is crowned.
My cat dice are ordered. If only snowy would high five my box! Is something I never saw myself saying but hey, now we’re here!
Pero, ¿quién gasta tanto dinero para jugar a 1080p? 540€
Even the accidental d20 roll showed that Intel has a Critical Failure, let’s see if they can recover.
Thanks, Steve! Back to you, Steve!
I think you missed a huge point to verbally mention in your gaming benchmarks, especially in the games where the average uplift was smaller or the test was GPU limited: look at the gains in 0.1% and 1% lows! That’s even more impressive than some of the huge average FPS uplifts. Are the 0.1% and 1% low improvements due to the better power delivery and stability?
I an afford this CPU in the new Trump economy. LETS goOOOOOO
$480 for an 8-core cpu. Nice joke!
I’m not sure I’m impressed, the power target is a lot higher so it’s effectively just an overclocked 7800X3D. I didn’t see any performance per watt testing in here (it’s a long video, correct me if I’m wrong) to see if it’s truly a generational uplift or if they just moved the cache to the bottom so they could just throw more wattage and it to appear better.
Thanks Steve.
Holy shit
Nobody even remembers that core ultra is current gen cpu fr9m intel
So you have a 4090 to play a 1080p?
Serious question, why is there no World of Warcraft in any benchmarks seeing how very sensitive on CPU rather than the GPU the game is?
While the game has way fewer players than before, it is still popular and people are building their system with full focus for it.
It’s almost 2x the FPS/W over Intel’s most efficient… That’s mental!
Just got a 4K monitor and seeing your reviews in 4K is glorious.
AMD could have literally done nothing and still won. It is good this CPU however seems to be a worthy successor!
TLDR: If you’re a photographer who games, you’ve found your dream CPU
I had the privilege of building a PC with the 9800x3D last week for a game journalist and it is truly an amazing piece of hardware
9800x3d will either be more expensive than 7800x3d lately or out of stock. and if the latter is the case, the 7800x3d will not come down in price to a reasonable level. — guess i’ve picked the wrong time to buy parts for a new system.
already booked the 9800x3d. upgrading from i5 11400f.
cant wait for it.
I wonder if the IHS will warp over time with that distribution. Steve would a 7950x3d run ram at 8000 in a X870E mobo? Or would it just run stabilized expo at 6000ish?
Is there any reason to wait for 9900-9950x3D? Is there a chance they will be even more productive in gaming?
I will buy AMD cpu tomorrow change for 13900k , suck to much power
A bit off topic, but I’d love to buy the TT set and I was wondering if buying from the EU is viable, the times I’ve bought something from the US I always had problems with customs asking for 3x the price of the item in taxes and shit like that. Anyone that has bought someting can tell me their experience?
How about performance on Windows 10 vs Windows 11
They fumbled the 9000 series launch, but clutched with the X3D launch
Nice
Any chance we get some more bechmarks for 1440p and 4k? I fully understand why doing 1080p and the fact that the GPU will pull most of the load to it at higher resolutions, still, I just wanted to see an expected real world performance instead of knowing which chip is the fastest in a scenario I’d never use. And yeah, I can somewhat extrapolate from there, but still…
Would love to see 7600x3d on the charts, I see the 5600x3d on there so seeing a current buyable part (even though it’s exclusive) would be nice
5800X3D is giving me 1080Ti vibes at this point
If it has extra cache can I get a lone?
28:20 They lowered themselves. AMD was happy to shovel the dirt
The new king is born.
Interested to see if the higher core X3D CPUs will still retain that Core parking garbage.
Hopefully not.
Wow, from a GTX 1080ti of CPUs to a GTX 1080ti of CPUs. That is insane
9700X seems like a really good value pick
Man its crazy how the turns have tabled over the years
28:30 had me rewinding.. wait.. what reaction? oh. OH. Ohhhhhh….
Embarrassing for intel since 12th gen
Prepped an MSI MPG X870E Carbon for this one, and I am glad to see I won’t regret it!
It’s crazy to think that Intel used to have the gaming crown just a few years ago. How the turns have tabled.
Red teams are on top today!
bye bey america bye bye intel
wow wat a day.
Damn, that 9800X3D is a beast. AMD just flexing at this point.
I am once more thanking Steve and all the crew at GamersNexus for including Final Fantasy XIV in these benchmarks. Any chance we can also get Monster Hunter Wilds added in once it releases? FF14 and MH are like the 2 main games I play on PC so would be nice to know where my performance lands and whether upgrading is worth it or not for me and others like me.
Without a doubt, the biggest news of the day o/
interesting how much more power the cpu can take with its core flipped
what a time to be alive. Thanks, Steve.
The first Gaming PC I ever build myself was based around FX-6300 and everybody was crapping on AMD back then coz “Intel better Intel topping charts”. I can’t believe how much changed since then…
Even though I will probably never get a 9800x3d, I’m just happy to see a company make hardware with actual improvement over last gen
absolute cinema
Damn, I totally would buy one of these if I didn’t just have to spend five grand on my damn car.
It rules all the gaming stats. Screw the workload stats. THIS is it, for gamers. And, it can although do workload ok’ish.
Firstly, thank you. Will the assassin 2 cooler I have on my 3600 work on this socket?
My biggest issue now is if i should buy one tomorrow or wait for black friday.. seeing the 7800x3d rise in price has me worried that it will be the same with this one
Awesome review!
Thanks GN!
AMD very good!!
if I were AMD I’ll price this 600/700$ until intel have some competition
What you gamer gonna do? Buy Core Ultra? HAHAHAHAHA
I really do not understand all the criticism around Zen 5. I own 9900X since last week. It is awesome for productivity stuff, has great power consumption levels.
I replaced my 7700 to get 20-25% boost on the same thread count but I have 50% cores more.
Not everything is for gaming.
Look at those 5000 series x3ds , killing every intel chips
can’t wait for this cpu to hit the markets so I can buy 5800x3d for cheap
OMG! I was not expecting so much of it! It’s really a winner!
Looks like a solid pickup, also where is the 7600x3d review!
Who the hell cares about 1080p medium/high settings? Who THE HELL is using 1080p medium with a 4090? As always, the gains are basically non-existent beyond a resolution and settings that literally nobody with top end hardware uses. Everyone circle jerking about FPS improvements they will literally never see in the real world. Come on. Gaming CPU reviews have to change beyond lowering to a resolution from 15+ years ago with shitty in-game settings.
Someone needs to go do a welfare check on Userbenchmark….
Not that my 13700K performs poorly in the games I use my computer for, but the path that AMD is on makes me consider switching to red the next time I decide to upgrade. Thanks, Steve!
I wonder if someone looking to stream to Twitch would be better off with this or the 14700K (if they can only get one PC because space constraints)
Totally hope I get a paw print…LOL Had to get the die set. Awesome piece as always, happy to support your work GN!
Intel is over party
I’m so happy for the Stellaris test. Stellaris is the sole reason I want to upgrade from my 3600X. Thank you for showcasing how much the uplift would look like.

Clearly, the price hikes are part of an elaborate scheme to fund the global Flat Moon Illumination Project (FMIP). Why? The Flat Moon Society (they operate out of a complex beneath an abandoned laser tag arena in the Nevada desert) has been lobbying for faster lighting calculations ever since their calculations revealed the dark side of the moon doesn’t just look flat but projects government-funded subliminal messages directly onto the Earth’s surface.
When ray tracing was standard, FMIP couldn’t keep up with the demand for constant “lunar refresh rates,” so they pushed AMD to pump up AVX-512, specifically so they could slice cache into discrete “lunar channels.” These channels are then assigned to lizard-person operatives who calculate every frame of “moonshine” without a ray of actual, traceable light.
As for the price hike? Every purchase funds new layers of conspiracy – think cache division, allowing double memory cycles (suspicious, right?) to smuggle encrypted messages between the moon’s surface and the hidden lizard bases.
can you do a follow up 5min video and do some extreme efficiency undervolting. can u set pbo offset to -50
Using sands to the extreme.
Why is the 7950X beating the 7950X3D in most games? Were you guys having some testing issues or has something changed since launch? I know it can be a nightmare to get the chipset drivers and Xbox game bar putting the game on the right ccd. I’ve gone back and looked at the original 7950X3D review and all of the games I checked the X3D part outperforms the non-X3D part.
Amd>>Ryzen
I can’t wait until the processor is barely available to buy for another year and prices are 50% higher
Can’t wait for the Userbenchmarks “Review”
amazing how when amd is up they say RIP intel, intel is done, its over, but when intel beats AMD in next gen “its good BUT” intel can only be bad for these tech channels, even tho steam hardware survey hasnt change in almost 3 years
Too bad there were no 4k gaming benchmarks as this is what interests me the most. I know the upgrade is much less noticeable at this res but come on, it’s not 2014 anymore;)
I believe it’s fair to say I am astonished. AMD 👏
30:00 WAIT its ALL 7800X3D?!
Well. Now I’m glad Zen 5 was designed the way it was.
This is some insane improvements. Makes me wonder if this will become the standard for Ryzen, with the non X3D being the “odd one out” CPUs
Would like to see how the 9950X3D performs. And the rumored Threadripper X3D CPUs.
(A “9960X3D” TR X3D would be my perfect go to with being able to use more PCIe lanes)
holy sheeeeit 5seconds of stellaris this is crazy 10sec vs old 5800x3d.
amd really should start bundling paradox codes with this cpu and partner with them.
Stop! hes already dead (simpsons)
I’m still on my 13900K like a PEASANT.
The best ram AND the sweet spot is 6400 MTs and set it to 1 ratio with fabric 2133 speed…
What timeline are we in when AMD is so dominant?
Like the new charts, perfect for my first cup of coffee brain. Simplifying for as not yet functioning brain. Well done. I am still not upset I picked up the 7800x3d for 400. Yet.
man the price per fps comparison in the conclusion is something i always wished for. it would be even more amazing if it may be on the homepage and interactive?
maybe, but the programming effort would be insane with the amount of data u madlads provide
I guess AMD didn’t want you to review games benchmarks at 1440P and 4K. Who spends $500 on a CPU for gaming performance at 1080P, unless you’re a contender at an eSports game who plays at 1080P and lower settings?
Jesus now I have to hear the AMD fanboys for another year of gloating
Another reviewer only showing 1080p results? doesn’t really give a real world daily driver comparison does it.. I wonder if that’s because when you bump it up to 1440p or 4k the actual results dont show this chip in the same light.
Could’ve waited for a 9800X3D, but that’s alright.
Highly satisfied with my 7800X3D purchase. Bought that beast of a CPU for $378.49 USD during a sale back in June this year.
Userbenchmark on suicide watch
When I can get the 9800x3d in europe
Once again, no reason to budge from 5800x3D. Thanks AMD!
Since my workload is 50/50 gaming/productivity, would you go for arrow lake, wait for 9950x3D or go 7950x3D before the trump tariffs hit us :D? And when do you recon we will see the rest of the x3D lineup
Another amazing review, “Thanks Steve!” For all of your team’s hard work to deliver this to us. ❤
Lisa is now looking at the rearview mirror smiling😅
If you ever get invited to play golf Steve, they’re not called golf bats, and you don’t fire the ball into the golf hole ⛳🕳️
No Counter Strike benchmark?
Welp, we won’t be able to afford them anyway in a few months with the new tariffs
Keep in mind this is a release review, they didn’t have time to go HAM yet. People have spotted supposed benchmarks running at 5.46 Ghz so I’m curious how far you can push this chip. Looking forward to the OC stream!
Finally something to put in my ASRock X870 Pro RS WiFi I got for $129 at Micro Center on a price glitch.
Looking to do a new PC build. Want one that does gaming, rendering and runs VMs so maybe this is the best choice?
285k at over $600. What on earth is Intel thinking?
Please answer this: If NOBODY will buy this CPU to play in 1080p, then WHY your entire benchmarks are 1080p? We want benchmarks in 1440p or 4k even if they all will have similar fps compared to 1080p.
This will be my chip for the 2025 build, thanks Steve for the review !
Still sitting on my 5800x3d but may consider upgrading now. Thanks, Theodore!
Wow. That stellaris performance. Wow. Thanks so much for covering 4x games where cpu is much more important as it impacts how much game I can play in a given time.
Intel is done for.
I wonder if using it on x670e will reduce in any way its performance.
Watching this on my 5800X3D+4070TiSuper.
I want a 5ghz X3D so badly.
the lows are crazy, i rather have less stutters atm than high fps
I’m upgrading from coffee lake, so I’m terribly excited to get my hands on this chip lmao.
Can’t wait for the cope and seethe from userbenchmark, lel.
Is there a reason why 6000MT/s RAM was used instead of 8000? AMD do advertise that all 9000 series cpus are One-Click Expo 8000 ready. Wouldn’t this result in more performance for the CPU?
oh boy oh boy it’s out. dis gonna be gud
I remember having a pointless internet argument with someone when I said Intel could team-up with EVGA to get them ‘up to speed’ on GPU stuff and they went full tribal spear-jab mode in my direction, proclaiming Intel invented the first microchip and need no help from anyone ‘getting them up to speed’ in any way. I now know in hindsight that I was correct and someone was wrong on The Internet, which has improved my quality of life drastically. Thanks, Steve!
Awesome, that settles it – i’ll be finally upgrading from my 3800X tomorrow. Just a bit sad that there was no aircooled data, since i want to switch over to a Phantom Spirit Evo. Would’ve been quite a bit of peace of mind to see that it will do the job properly (the cooler). Either way. Thanks for the review, i’ll refer my wife to you when i inevitably have to explain myself.
“the golf hole”
The sports knowledge i come here for! 😂
Anyway good for gamers
Thank you AMD for not snatching defeat from the jaws of victory for once!
Its getting closer to me having a reason to jump from the 5800X3D to AM5
Why did you remove Cyberpunk from your tests?
OOF, what a beat down
Wait a good cpu review in 2024?
how to make a CPU:
step 1) find rock
step 2) crush rock
step 3) ???
step 4) profit
I hope these changes will help with thermals cause they will also make it more difficult to safely delid it.
still need benchmarking for games at 1440p and 4K
Should i upgrade from 7800X3D?
Finally, time to upgrade the i7-7700k.
Only Q – 9950x3D with two or one Vcache?
If two, I want it more, as I could use more cores sometimes. Freq could also be high
Well, at least I’ll be able to build a nice PC to help me ignore the next 4 years.
Snowflake dice!!!
poor intel. thanks steve.
Those dice are yummy, too bad I don’t play tabletop games anymore. Oh well, on to the video.

Too much red winning today.
GN Steve is standing and HUB Steve is sitting
Thank you for posting this review so I can watch something other than election coverage
Steve is standing, so it will be a disappointment😢.
Oh wait…
Finally the first none of Zen 5%
Do you recommend buying this now or waiting for the 9950x3D?
Let’s GO, the day has finally come.
That is INSANE.
Thanks Steve! Wait..wrong manufacturer.. x)
ive been waiting for this review since i was debating whether to buy the 7800x3d or wait a few months for the 9800x3d.
I almost fainted when I saw that this video was up. xD
An actually performant CPU? I must be dreaming!
Lol, the video is only 10 minutes old and already a dislike. Intel fanboys do not like this video …
Damn, 9800X3D is a *Beast*
I wanted a Ryzen since the very first generation but never actually got one, because I got a 9400F+MB for basically free.
Maybe now it’s the time to upgrade a lot.
Oh my gosh.
Trump won so this does no matter…
Intel down BAD
Utter domination!
Best CPU ever made by far
The video we all wanted!! 🙌🏻🙌🏻 Thanks!
was this tested on 23h2 or 24h2 windows update?
Yup glad I seen this review 9800X3D is definitely my next upgrade
Good morning Steve! It is a wonderful day, or so I’m trying to tell myself!
I hope the 9800X3D and the 5090 get along nicely 😊
The more you buy, the more you save
Thanks Steve
Now, we can start the waiting of 9950X3D benchmark
ITS HAPPENING EVERYBODY STAY CALM
WHY NO 7600X3D IN YOUR CHARTS MicroCenter has 7800X3D in stock for $449 bro.
“Looks like Meats Back on the Menu Boys”
The stevemind has spoken
Thank you Steve!
This thing is gonna scream with a 5090
Winning
Does DDR5 8000 worth on this new CPU, or 6000mHz it is still the sweet spot?
Looks like the 7800X3D is the way to go with small form factor builds.
My 7800x3D doesn’t often hit loads above 30-40% when paired with a 4080 Super…why would 7800/9800 or higher even be recommended for most gamers?
I’m curious if the fps-per-watt for 9800x3d will be better than the 7800x3d. I am hoping to make a really nice little low power Mini PC someday.
Common Intel L
TL;DR
Intel bad, AMD good.
Intel deserves this smackdown. Intel not being able to compete is very worrisome for the long run though.
AMD thoroughly tested these cpus before they were sent out 🙂
Thanks for the review. I’m checking your review first but I see from the titles that the other reviewers are also positive. 👀
Thank you sir
At last I will upgrade from my i7-4790k, yeah >_o
This could be another reason why intel have been tiring to get into gpu’s, they knew their cpu’s just are not up to snuff.
US Election results or GN 9800X3D review video?
My choice was never easier.
Thanks Steve <3
Day 1 of requesting Gamers Nexus to thermal test lian li o11 vision compact with 11 fans configuration.
Ill just say, I’ve been intel for 20 years and I’ve always said damn the higher cost I want the best. Well after intels latest drop I have never been more tempted to buy an AMD product. Like lets be real, if we wanted to save money on power we wouldn’t be using a huge desktop gaming pc. And honestly my pc isn’t even barely effecting my power bill anyways. I just dont understand wth intel was thinking.
Best gaming CPU of all time
Thanks Steve
AMD always Wins. i Love that
Let’s see if buying 7800x3d for 350$ was a mistake
RIP Inter🕯as the ‘l’ withered into an ‘r’
Absolutely need this distraction after last night. Thanks.
LETS GOOOOOOOOO
So the 9800x3d is a beast but the 7800x3d is still a monster as well.
Im so excited about this CPU. I have a 3950X and am looking for an upgrade. This is almost as fast as that in multi core. Thats crazy
Waited at least three months for this video. Thanks, Steve.😊
the benchmarks on the dice <3 im here for this
Thanks Steve. Actually appreciate the distraction on this first Wednesday of November.
Bro always hooks us up when we need it
Good to see AMD delivering a winner. Thanks, Steve
Ooh baby
My wallet is ready. My body aint.
31th comment
Great stuff. I have my new motherboard and memory, I just hope I can get a 9800x3d ordered tomorrow 🤞
just poured myself a cup of Tea and i saw this video, perfect timing.
GG
Smoking that intel gas, dancing on intel grave
Userbenchmark be on suicide watch rn
Thanks Steve! Oh, not an intel review, my bad
“Thanks Steve”
iNTEL inside… the history books
Thank you, Tech Jesus! I asked for benchmarks, and you answered it
You and Hardware Unboxed both called your videos rip intel. Thanks Steves.
JayzTwoCents broke the embargo 2 minutes earlier lol
Omg
May Intel rest in peace, it was good until it wasn’t.
I’ve never clicked on a video so fast. I’m 90% sure I was one of the first 5 viewers
RIP Intel!
thanks, steve
Let’s goooo!
First? Idk lol. GO AMD.
Haill to the new King!
Here
1st 😂
