Man this gun actually looks horrible. You could remove 90% of the random scrap metal welded and weird wood furnishing and unnecessary pieces and it would still function but look like an actual firearm. I mean with the material required to make this you could build multiple aks which would be more practical, lighter, functional, reliable, and cooler.

I have nothing to back this up but I think alot of the guns, (Laredo in particular) were intended to be laser, plasma, etc which would explain the greebling that would not really make sense with a ballistic weapon. Also I believe a number of the weird designs that at first glance make no sense can be explained as methods to disipate heat in the vacuum of space. A number of the weapons clearly have heat sinks and alternative methods to remove heat like the AA-99 and the Kraken.

I genuinely think it’s a shotgun every time I look at it. I’ve fired it numerous times. I still think it’s a shotgun when I look at it. The design is *that* shit.

I make 3D weapon models as a hobby and I also love guns/engineering. Whenever I’m designing something, even if it’s a made up sci-fi energy weapon, I try to make sure it follows _some_ kind of logical design philosophy; what are the ergonomics? How does it disassemble? If I want a magazine/energy cell here, what does that imply for how the internals work? Etc. but I never just add random pieces on top of other pieces and say “eh, looks cool” and the fact a supposed AAA developer doesn’t put in nearly as much care or thought as an amateur hobbyist is infuriating. The worst part is a lot of these Bethesda weapons *don’t even look good!* Like I could probably forgive a nonsense design if it at least looks cool. Even some stuff that doesn’t make the most sense mechanically like Deckard’s pistol from Blade Runner is still an iconic fictional firearm and because it was kit-bashed from real world weapons it at least feels somewhat plausible (some fans have even made some GREAT educated guesses/designs over the years as to what the various lights or the bolt do that make sense and give the weapon even more credence)

I like the style they have gone with but it loks unnecessary and wrong and the two things at the frond are magsafe adapters

If they really want to make the gun look like that they should atleast make it shoot some fancy energy projectile or something, or have some insane firerate that would require bulky cooling

The more advanced guns get, the simpler they’re going to become, until eventually they’re all just variations of the same tiny, ultra-slim device that’s just three parts screwed together. A Buck Rogers blaster is more realistic than that thing.

What sucks is that (little) parts of it are salvageable! The stock and barrel shroud are kinda cool, but so much of the rest of it makes no sense

This is one of the weapons I gleefully replace with a mod. I hate its style, it’s looks, it wood furniture, everything about this “weapon”/”gun” just gawd awful. I ligit feel bad for the art designer because I know they spent hours on this and they must have felt really confident in it’s design but I’m sorry I just can’t with this thing. It hurts my eyes looking at it.

I do love when to make a sci-fi gun, people just cram a bunch of bulky nonsense on it. Like it’s spitting stuff out the front dude, what could all of that other shit possibly be doing? I guess if it’s some exotic weapon shooting black holes or something, but even things like portal guns can be made to look streamlined and like each part has a real functional purpose. Just cramming as many pipes and levers embedded into it as you can is creatively bankrupt. Especially when it’s a gun that just shoots bullets lol

I say this as someone who likes Starfield, I genuinely do suspect some of stuff in the game was AI generated. I would be surprised if this model wasn’t. It’s probably one of the ugliest in the entire game and there are a lot of very ugly guns in starfield.
