Ok Bethesda you wanna start improving fans feedback, then this will be a start in the right direction, these things were already stated by Todd Howard to already be in the game, but weren’t because Todd Howard lied to everyone about it… background loading screens where we would be landing our ships in all places while the game loads in the background… now for other improvements give us panel while sitting in the pilots sit to access the star system map and the galaxy maps for better immeriveness and make our 4 companions less annoying and add more different floorplans to the POI’S, make Core and Sam use the co-pilot chair, so they can fly the ship when we fast travel… and improve outpost building and to allow us medium sized Settlements would be nice and pretty cool… These things wouldn’t be hard to apply because these’s functions are already in the game, and would improve relationships with the Fan base
Bethesda will always be stuck in the pass as long as people keep buying their garbage games.
I’m just calmly waiting for Starfield Online. Todd Howard will assure me that it just works.
Feels like the Bethesda team have taken a back step and let Chat-gpt take over. None of their recent games from fallout 3, fallout 4 and maybe even Skyrim have any consequence, good or bad. So what is the point in playing them?
People get to wrapped up in an IP and think they know better then the multi-million dollar game studio. Don’t like what they do don’t buy their games. Simple vote with your wallet.
And I responded by putting my wallet away and telling them to eat one…
DEI hires have ruined video games and movies.
We need to hear from all the Starfield fanbois who said the game was better than Cyberpunk even after version 1.6. Where did they slither to?
It was a good dlc for a house vanuun playthrough but other than that it sucks.
I’ll go as far and say it’s emil making a meal of it
Emil says “ Nobody at BGS is patting themselves on the back while ignoring our players “ while………… patting himself on the back and ignoring the players
I think you hit the nail on the head – the content is there, but its bottled up in three areas (now four), and we also got the ‘open world’ to explore, but the content isn’t THERE – those areas are boring. We want all that content as PART OF the exploration, and they have completely lost that aspect. And also as you’ve said, the characters (thus, the writing) makes you not care about the NPCs, at all. Not even the companions.
One of my biggest gripes with Starfield is the lack of radiant AI and unique named NPC’s in cities. Watching NPCs travel around going about their days, completing specific tasks, stores opening/closing, etc, goes a long way toward making the world feel “alive”.
The game also needs more handcrafted dungeon locations to draw from. It murders immersion to walk into the same exact abandoned science facility for the 6th time on 6 different plants. I would gladly pay $20 for a DLC that just adds an additional 50 or so of these type of locations to the game.
Honestly, I think this game would have been much better off it was scaled way down in size instead of having “1000 planets” just to serve the idea that “bigger is better” which is definitely not always the case. Why not just have the whole map consist of Sol, Alpha Centauri, Cheyenne, Volii and kryx with a total of 50 planets/moons? It would still be massive and would be much easier to pack with content.
Shattered Space was a lot of fun for me. The story was interesting. The new content was good enough for me. Starfield is one of my favorite games and I do hope they continue supporting this game for many years
I hate Emil
Wanted to play starfield. It crashes so often I can’t get out of the tutorial. So in my opinion, starfield is a completely failed game
It’s fine to respond to bad reviews if you’re trying to correct the problem. It’s not fine to respond to bad reviews if you’re trying to change the opinion
Bethesda: we have to monetize 10 years that a player spends playing the one-time purchase offline game😂😂😂 unrelated question – what torrent mirror would you recommend?
Bethesda used to be the king of DLC horse armor aside when they put out a game he usually came with four DLCs and those four DLCs would more than double the size of the original game making it well worth it
I don’t know if anybody does this anymore. DLCs are tiny little extra add-ons so they can get more cash out of you
Not everyone’s cup of tea is what you can say if it does moderately well, if it’s failing hard, it’s apparently nobody’s cup of tea
Apparently, 8 years wasn’t long enough.
That, and the game needed more writers.
It is my opinion that Starfield was pushed before it was ready. There are a number of features in the game that feel incomplete.
I have zero hope for the next elder scrolls
A fan of your videos for a while, but kinda feel like the narrative you were pushing here was a bit disingenuous. I mean…sure…they still hold the title of horse armor peddler…but now its in the hands of modders, not the Bethesda team. Just a bit of a caveat…that’s all.
As much fun as I’ve had with starfield, I think BGS needs to move on. Their little pet project wasn’t what they wanted it to be, and they should go back to what they’re good at. I loved playing starfield and will probably keep playing it off and on for several years, but it is far from bethesdas best work. I feel like they had too many ideas and it honestly held the game back trying to fit them all in. They should go back to the ways of fallout 4 and Skyrim, a largely handcrafted area with lots of little details to discover.
The biggest canary in the coal mine was Will Shen, lead for Far Harbor, the only part of Fallout 4 which feels immersive and compelling, quietly left the company after Starfield. He knew all his efforts would be squandered by this hack.
We want starfield to succed. But they wont take criticism
It just sucks cause I love them and Todd
Sadly, many people are no longer enraged over Bethesda’s direction, but rather apathetic, and that is much, much worse. If someone is raging about your game (or media in general) that means they still care enough to be angry and you can course correct and get fans back, whereas once fans just shrug and move on, then that means your project has largely failed and not many people will return. I believe Starfield is pretty much cooked and if they don’t do better with TES6, then I believe Bethesda is cooked.
Hardly, the Constilation has only good and that’s it, roleplaying has it’s problems.. 😔 feels like a ongoing trend
As much as it pains me to say, Bethesda is no longer the same that brought us Oblivion, morrowind, Skyrim.
Starfield isn’t that bad, but it’s just not that good.
Wide as an ocean, deep as a puddle really is the best way to explain Starfield.
And anytime you argue and fight with fans, it’s not going to end good for you.
I think it’s silly to watch two guys in spacesuits hack away at each other with swords… Just seems a silly concept.
Lol people don’t play Starfield lol
You cut Emil way too much slack. Watch the speech he did some years back. Combined with all his comments over the last year he has dug a big hole for himself. The only way out would be some serious introspection, a sincere apology for his arrogant condescending attitude toward gamers in general and taking player feedback serious and working on something the customers actually want.
I predict he will never do it. Dude is way too proud.
Being almost completely devoid of character does count as unique personality, I guess.
To Reiterate my Steam review, “It’s got a lot of good content, but it’s almost equivalent to the amount of bad content. So you’re just eating a burnt steak that’s smothered in BBQ sauce.” 300+ hours I’ve spent and it’s meh out of meh.
The full response to the response is actually garbage
If bethesdas management cant acknowledge their mistakes they wont learn from them expect the same quality
This is what happens when ego is attached to the project
If Bethesda doesn’t want to work on, or be know for, fallout and the elder scrolls it may be time for Xbox to clean house.
Daddy Todd must be melting down over his personal passion project. Perhaps Bethesda shouldn’t have sold out to xbox
The base game is so boring…. Space exploration is pointless, star citizen did it right
The guy’s name is Emil, not Amil.
“There is nothing more inimical to intelligent planning or more conducive to wild and impractical vanity than the assumption that because one has done well in the past one must of necessity continue to do so in the future.” -Belisaurius
Bethesda is such a letdown now.
played it twice in vanilla mode and dlc once. sure there is some little issues with the game but in general its a pretty good game . i beleive many ppl criticizing price of thing like dlc simce to forget that inflation is everywhere and making a game it very difficult and costly. unfortunaltly many creations bring bugs to the game . i only download free cerations i don’t buy any. i compare it more to cyberpunk 2077 that for me became a realy cool and good game now , hope starfield gets better in the same way.
I love Starfield, but I agree that there needed to be a lot more attention to the small details and the fact that mechanics that were in their prior games were in this game is an oversight. I feel like, since they were making this game from scratch, the overlooked a lot of things that will eventually be added/fixed. Honestly, my biggest issue with Starfield was the huge open world and the boring, generic, repetitive RNG locations.
The level of tone deafness that this studio possesses is frightening. Sad to see all the OG companies that started with nothing have all grown to become incompetent.
Starfield does not need a big overhaul. Comparing Starfield and Cyberpunk 2077 is apples and oranges. Cyberpunk 2077 was completely UNPLAYABLE for many many players. Starfield is not broken people don’t liike some of the design decisions but that could be said for 90% of all AAA Games.
We went from deeply written lore you could find and analyse in books scattered all across Skyrim, to excerpts from real world books with no relevance to world building that’s just there just for the sake of filler. It’s like they stopped caring. Bethesda used to be a small studio whose games won us over because of its charm, because lets face it, they were always behind from a technological standpoint, it was those other ‘things’ that kept us hooked that’s just not there anymore. Or is it just me?
The NPC’s are the worst in gaming history.
Mmm… Crazy how that works. Starfield is meant for those who like it. It is like expecting BG3 to get an action combat update for those who like that.
Where can I get what this Emil guy is smoking?
Cuz I’m avoiding that dealer like the plague.
You could have had more people play it by default if you didnt alienate a third of your playerbase but really you did the sony boys a soild
Shartfield: Shattered Sphincter – Mining the IP and customers wallets to deleption.
I’m not buying the new elder scrolls. Everyone needs to move on from bethesda.
Bethesda says this is their best game ever. I’d say that it had the potential to be, but they missed the opportunity. They could learn allot simply by checking into the mods that people create and download. Like take just the top 20 or top 50 mod ideas from Fallout 4 and incorporate them into Starfield. My first disappointment was in character creation. You can create your character many ways, but it always looks like a pathetic generic wax figure. The outfits and bodies look like they were designed at a church function. But you can choose your favorite pro-noun. No body sliders or physics? Then the fact that all the alien life is animals and your just supposed to shoot them or harvest them for resources. The only intelligent life is humans in one form or another and they’re just doing what they’ve always done. Mostly killing each other. I’d like some creative mind, like mine, to imagine a few races of aliens that are completely different non-humanoids that the player can interact with. Not just space battle aliens with ships to blow up. The ship building is pretty weak honestly with most of the hab units lacking any real function. The little mining bases you build can just sit there and crack out resources, but you can’t attract settlers to them so there’s no incentive to expand your build. I could go on all day. I’ll just say, I played it through, got all the achievements, did every quest (I think). I even ran all over almost every planet and surveyed everything. I appreciate what they did with this game but it’s in the rough. People want a polished product not a rough one. I haven’t played Shattered Space at all and that’s why I probably won’t.
Toddy Boy has made Emil the Pug his new meatshield. Emil is even starting to look like Petey Hiney.
Sometimes I wonder if Bethesda just tries to put out the game. Get it mostly working and kind of right. Make sure we throw a couple bugs in there because that’s kind of our signature. Todd Howard enjoys watching the YouTube videos about the bugs. And then they decide okay we’ll just leave the rest for the creation kit release and let the modders deal with it. Cuz I’ve noticed that’s when a Bethesda game even though they actually are pretty good, start to get really good. Once the mods release that’s when it gets great
If they move to the Unreal Engine for Elder Scrolls 6, that will be the end of Bethesda. Their modding community is the only thing keeping them alive, and Unreal Engine will destroy that.
I think Emil is a very poor spokesman for Bethesda and they should keep him out of public conversations.
A good example of a living world is Read Dead Redeemation 2: Your free more or less do what anything you want in the world as the story moves forward. The player encounters fix points, but how you get to those fix story points is up to you as a player, and you can feel the cause and effect of your actions as the game on folds. The game is balanced.
Starfield, the game out of balance, the worlds all feel like an empty blank canvas ready to be finished by modders ? and why RDR2 well it example of everything that starfield needed and lacks. The story arc starfield is a best-fetch quest, and as ti the a side missions, they are all on rails; you go from a to b, then B to C; no cause and effect, and in the end, nothing matters. This is what let Starfield down; it needs a great story.
The thing that makes me the most disappointed is the fact i still love the Bethesda titles i grew up with. I honestly want starfield to be an awesome space rpg but it just is lacking too much to keep it engaging.
BGS is stuck in the past, literally. While it’s great for employee moral to have people who’ve been with the company for 30+ years, this also makes them vulnerable to not evolving with the industry and the fans who play their games. SF is the epitome of outdated game design, yet they can’t really change the core of the game because that’s what it’s built around. All of the responses and updates have been to smaller issues, but not the core game itself because Bethesda can’t change that to be a more modern, lived-in game similar to Cyberpunk, or even No Man’s Sky.
Bethesda is making money off of paid mods ESO and 76 with minimum effort required so they don’t have to care about the fans that are mad
In Fallout and Skyrim, once you finish the story, or even if you don’t play the story, you can just walk out into the world in any direction and have hours and hours of fun content. In Starfield, once the story quests are done, there’s no fun.
If they want to add fun to the game, they need to add a few hundred more locations with lore that will spawn on planets. These need to be different and have fun, cool stuff to get. Their habit of tying a boring quest to everything in this game, like they did F76, should be left behind. All I really want is to land on a planet and set out excited for what I might find. That’s what they give us in Fallout and the Elder scrolls, not here.
Bethesda with never peak past skyrim.
The development environment has changed too much for anything to top skyrim now.
Space simulation 😂😂😂😂, yeah alright.
I really enjoyed the expansion. Did the whole main quest and some sidquests. Still have a bunch of side quests to go and haven’t finished exploring the new world, but it’s been pretty cool. My only complaint is that it was shorter than I would have liked.
Blueprint for Starfield success. Aliens, populated worlds, flying between locations. If you can’t do it don’t try. And especially don’t say you’re doing it or try to rebrand it as a space “simulation”. Multiverse? Let’s hammer out the universe first, Bethesda.
Bethesda Derangement Syndrome is a sad but real thing. I mentioned liking Fallout 4 at my work and one of my co-workers got all pissed off and went on a rant about how Bethesda sucks and NV is better. I’m just sitting here enjoying life and having fun playing a game and there’s grown men who find that offensive and get all mad about it, It’s so pathetic 😂
Starfield is a 60-70 hour game priced at $70. Shattered Space is a 7 hour DLC priced at $30. With the monetization of Fallout 76, the official mods they create, and this DLC…it’s safe to say it’s over.
Bethesda should just remake Skyrim with Starfield’s engine and give us more space to mod this new remade Skyrim.
not ignoring players?!?!? fallout 4…. the update to break the game…
i hit “the wall” after 10 hours
starfield is boring. i will not play it.
Don’t ask questions
Just consume product
I have huge issues with the term ‘technical marvel’ describing anything they’ve made, their animations still look like they belong in a ps2 game
all we wanted for the past decade was just es6 and fo5 😭
Unity is broken af. No-one playing a Bethesda game wants to lose everything they’ve built over and over and over.
Fix that one thing and game will do much better
what if instead of ingame digital goods store, you’d have an actual ingame gift shop (which is inside the actual game) where you can buy items which would be shipped to your house irl
I think the key to this debacle is here: Starfield was made for Xbox and ported to the other platforms. Recipy for disaster, and particularly weird since MS is probably dropping consoles altogether. Good riddance. Unfortunately, they sunken BSG on the process.
I can tell you exactly why no one really likes Starfield. It’s because it’s not able to scroll six. We have been waiting forever.! this is the game that pushed the development back so much farther and it’s such a disappointment
If Bethesda actually cared about their fans, they’d have already dropped support for Starfield and announced that ES6 is almost finished.
I’m one of the weird ones who actually enjoys playing Starfield. Even I can’t justify paying the amount Bethesda are asking for this DLC.
Skyrim released 2011, it’s now 2024, and we have yet to see a new TES game, and now you expect people to wait even longer? It was really hard to wait while you switch between TES and Fallout, and now you’ve added a new game into the mix that quite honestly, most people hate, but at the same time that same game helped many of us give up on Bethesda completely, you will never actually release a good game again. Your writers suck, your engine sucks, and your greed is beyond pathetic and disgusting. Congratulations Bethesda, you’ve played yourself, people would’ve bought TES 6 without batting an eye, but after seeing Starfield, half of us will refuse to even look at it, while the other half will be extremely careful about the reviews etc. And this comes from a huge TES fan that to this day still plays Skyrim.
Take everything Emil and Todd say, run it through the Trump voice AI.
Its the denial i am the best there is type of bubble they live in.
There so ignorant and proud of their “worst kid in school”. He’s my every he’s an Angel 🙏🏿. My kid would never do anything wrong if you have a problem with him you’re the problem.
Bethesda needs new talent
I have no doubt the team worked hard. I will also say the first play through is a lot of fun. Shatterdspace felt like just cut content. I’m still a fan.
Emil just need to go, if Elder scrolls6 will have a chance. And they need to make game 18+, starfield should have been. Bethesda should not create game for kids.
Please fire emil and todd
Emil’s gotta go. Starfields biggest weakness is that every single character is a passionate liberal explorer with very wordy long winded things to say.
Starfield literally does have the deathclaw canyon effect, its the space deathclaws, dont even remember their name but I know it was something spectacularly generic. But that whole thing was an ongoing problem for colonists. Its just the deathclaw threat was something you could take seriously and was written better.
Terrormorphs. I just remembered. Which Im pretty sure just means “planet creature”
1:00 that’s not even true and if that was their goal, they still failed. No man’s sky is larger with far more variety and a better space simulator than Starfield is and I don’t even just mean right now I even mean back it it’s release I mean, it was disappointing sure but it was still in near infinite universe you could explore, and it actually had more procedurally generated content and Starfield dead, but also remember that it came out with technology that was 10 years older than what Starfield had to work with for its current day release. Oh wait actually no it didn’t. I forgot they refused to abandon their creation engine, which was obsolete over 10 years ago, so I guess technically it was an even playing field.😂
If your still a Bethesda fan, you might be gullible enough to buy this dehydrated water I’m selling.
The comment about them being the most conscious about DLC content in the industry is further proof that Bethesdas headquarters exists in some kind of reality bubble, completely cut off from the outside world. They literally have no self awareness and no perspective on the industry, other games, or how their own game is being viewed.
One of the best things to show how much worse today they are than the horse armor debacle. Is the one gun they cut out of the game and then added back for $7 and didnt even bother to check of the reload worked until literally months later. Not only did they not change their stance on reselling minor cut content, But they’re now scamming people for overpriced BROKEN content.
“Its a technical marvel what we’ve done with this game”
Objectively speaking, No. What modders do with their games are technical marvels, What Bethesda does with their own games, are the bare minimum to be functional, and sometimes, no, often times, they dont even clear that bar. Something that the modders have to then come in and clean up for them, some thing that Bethesda has both implicitly and explicitly admitted and corroborated with their own actions.
The bleed over from the STILL horrible Fallout 4 upgrade issues WILL be applied to Starfield. Thus, the fans reactions are being “fueled” by the failure and worse, the continued failure of BGS to fix the doggone is NOT a good face for BGS.
The few %points of the Grumpy Fan Syndrome can be ignored as they do not have a realistic appreciation for the game.
The only thing out exploring stars is Bethesdas delusions of the quality of their own product.
I will say its ballzy for Emil to put himself out front of the defense force for this game.
If theres anything to respect about him, theres that. Cause it certainly isnt his writing.
Space Flight, What Space Flight, the Space Flight in the Game Was Very Hollow, and Very Little Was Shown and it Felt Like I Was Going In Slow Motion. Plus there was NO ATMOSPHERIC FLIGHT, NO SEAMLESS TRANSITIONING!!!! To Me the Space Flight Felt Like A Cut Scene, Waiting To Get To the Loading Screen…. Worst Game Engine To Create A “Space Game” With……
The dlc was on par with far harbor dlc from fallout 4 with an ending as epic as the end of main quest of Oblivion. I just wish they would give the industrial bench native categories to sort through so modders can play nice with eachother and not have a ridiculously large list. Still waiting for crowd body slider tools, lip sync tools, and more ship parts. They should make New Atlantis and Akila city the same as Dazra. Those two cities arent big enough for main settlements.
I have no issue with Starfield I mean it has its moments but mods do help it
This Emil Dude is quite cringe…
So what do the sales figures say?
IDK, Never played Elder Scrolls and see no reason to start. Haven’t played any Fallout games since Far Harbor and never started ’76 so I kinda agree about Starfield being part of the Big 3. I can’t put it down.
13:38 …Gustavo Valencia, Inevitable, Roach, Agent No. 1, Delgado, Qisrani Dul’Khef, Mujeen Ka’dic, Brother Onamide, Anasko Va’ruun.
My interest in Bethessda games dropped off a while ago… Unfortunately they have been making games that are less and less RPGs, and more and more sandboxes for modders. Even in Fallout 4 it was getting bad, almost nothing you do matters, and your build has no impact on quests outside of having a high charisma sometimes lets you talk someone down instead of fighting them… This and more and more empty sandboxes lead to games that wind up quickly boring without the extensive modding their designed for… buuuut their aging engine then makes these heavy modded games highly unstable.
I never got Fallout 76, had no hopes for Starfield and never got it… and frankly what I’ve been seeing last year or so I have no hopes for ES6… it’s just going to be another massive sandbox that modders will be expected to fill *ESPECIALLY* paid mods.
dullfield
You’re wrong on Emil’s attitude. Yes, they will never please ALL the fans, but any fandom will gradually diminish unless you work to actively grow it. Do you seriously think that ANY games company thinks “Oh well, some people won’t like our stuff, so we’ll only create for people who are fanboys?”
Skyrim was got me into PC gaming (and building) in the first place, and Starfield have made me really scared for how TES6 turns out. It’s such a shame that Starfield didn’t 3-10 really well designed planets when it launched, with seamless travel between, in stead of its heap of mostly uninteresting 🙁 Imagine how much better it could have been if they could add another well-crafted planet thorough DLCs instead… But they tossed this opportunity out of the window.
I have played videogames since 1984.
Starfield is an awesome game. Haters gonna hate.
Some people say this is the best game ever! and no one can regrow and ear as fast as Todd Howard!
Cyberpunk2077 doesn’t have a NG+ and I’ve put over 700 hours into it with multiple character and different builds. The world feels lived in and the lore and quests are exceptional. Starfield feels artificial and like everything is just set dressing instead of having a real purpose. It’s sterile and uninteresting, there’s no mature subject matter to any of the quests or lore.
Honestly, the constant outrage is just getting annoying. Games media is increasingly dominated by hot takes on hot takes on hot takes. Not every game is for everyone, studios don’t always do their best work, and life moves on. Maybe try one of the thousand quality indy games out there rather than joining the throngs of moaners who feel personally attacked when they don’t love the latest AAA game…
It’s literally just Fallout in space
All the content in the world can’t make up for how shallow and boring and DEI it all is
If I had to sum up my 40+hours on starfield in 3 words.
Underwhelming
Monotonous
EMPTY
Emil Pagliarulo needs to get a thicker skin, or actually learn how to WRITE GOOD STORIES.
When I heard the comment about Game Developers have been working on this since Morrowind my immediate thought was that is probably because newer developer aren’t interested in working at Bethesda, due to the game engine not being what their used to working with, so Bethesda can only muster their long time employees and maybe a few adventurous developers will to learn how to code/use Bethesda’s proprietary game engine. That thought made me think that without “new blood” there aren’t going to be new ideas shared and implemented and that is why gamers are seeing the same/worse quality of game from Bethesda.
I do appreciate the comment in the article, I believe, that talked about not working with another game engine because they want their game to look apart from other games. Many games do have a similar style, particularly Unity games, so that comment is understandable, but I think its clear that thinking isn’t getting them the best result in terms of gameplay, which players are complaining about significantly. However as Emil stated, a game engine doesn’t improve the story elements, and that is certainly true. Perhaps that just highlights that the writers didn’t get it right.
I remain convinced that Todd and his team aren’t good managers. They appear to not be able to work productively and I think there needs to be more changes within mid-level corporate/development management and even perhaps Todd himself needs replacing.
Sure wish they’d respond and FIX MY GD GAME NOT SAVING WITHOUT CRASHING!!
BETHESDA? B E T H E S D A. FIX THIS.
I started Sharted Space, got the first mission done and now, AND NOW, Everytime I fast travel or try to save, the game locks up.
I even turned off all the auto save settings. Manual save…LOCKS UP!! This is beyond ignorant. This is blatant EFFING your customers and laughing all the way to the bank.
I’ve since moved this UN optimized trash heap to an external drive. I’ll check back in a few years and see if anyone has bothered to give 2 shites in the interim and FIX THIS GD MESS!!
Suffice to say, after 30 years of playing and living every minute of The Elder Scrolls, I will NOT be playing Elder Scrolls 6.
You can’t manage Starfield in 2024, there’s ZERO chance you’ll have your heads screwed on straight in another 10 years. I’m out.
Thanks for the good years. Take rest and stick it in your t rump
And also, is Starfield more fun than Star Control: Origins on an Xbox?
We need to do a petition to fire Emil.
Is it better than No Man’s Sky on Xbox, though?
They built the biggest Barren Walking Simulator that just happens to take place in space. Sure maybe there idea of content in million worlds. But if 99.9% have no content on them then it’s just boring. Also No Man Sky has more content they still add tons new content every few months for free.
I stopped playing SS because it kept crashing and the so called hand crafted content was a lie.
They’re delusional
of course we as consumers re so fkng angry with bethesda. they have everything to do an amazing game but they dont care, the dont want to or i dont know
the game is emply doesnt matter how many pay mods or dlc re out there and bethesda doesnt care about it, they re focused on fallout 76 and elderscrolls online
Them saying it’s the best game they’ve made highlights their priorities. I’m so sorry Bethesda, I’m so happy you learned how to randomly generate empty planets, and put vehicles in your video game. But the IP isn’t just a tech demo for a Dev to play with, it’s for the fans. Though they are right, it may not be everyone’s cup of tea. Which is why between all the Skyrim editions, their Steam 24 hour peak has 16,683 more players than Starfield. That’s with the added attention of a 2 week young new Starfield dlc, verses the soon-to-be 13 year old Skyrim..
It just seems like Bethesda is making an overly ambitious world forced by Microsoft and filling in the blanks later since it worked with FO76. Ugh RIP the day when we got narritive story driven RPG and DLC’s
Starfield is just a massive shallow puddle, No depth just a lot of mostly uninteresting areas
This is what I don’t get about these new age devs….we have absolutely LOVED your games for so long. Compared to modern games, they were fairly basic, but still extremely immersive and fulfilling! Why totally change the formula that everyone already loves, then say it’s your literal customers fault your game fell short?! Obviously we knew a space game wasn’t going to be for everyone, but even I don’t like it, and I LOVE everything about space! And I love Bethesda games. So clearly it isn’t the gamers fault. Take accountability, listen to criticism and fix it!
“Every fix can break something else.” Yeah we know. You still haven’t fixed the Fallout game you broke.
You know when Juicehead is bashing Bethesda its bad.
It’s a bad game, they need to learn and move on. End of story
I truly believe if they had given us proper map transportation and made planets land-able like in NMS(even use cloud to cover/load the next area), then a lot of ppl would’ve loved Starfield.
The first step in solving any problem is recognizing there is one..
“I’m sure there’s hundreds or thousands of people working on this”
And by ex-employee accounts, that’s exactly the problem.
I cant even play the game let alone the DLC because even after the performance patches starfield turns my series x into an oven and just shuts it off
“The richest space simulation RPG anyone could imagine”?
Dude, No Man’s Sky has been out for almost a decade at this point. It’s not personally my cup of tea, but it has considerably more content than Starfield. It’s so funny that they’re trying to pretend their game is “richer”.
starfield feels so lifeless. The cities are full of nameless people. You cant kill anyone because everyone is essential. its just boring
I don’t know if the Bethesda execs are truly delusional, or just bet too big on “every game lasts $10 years” and are suffering from Sunk Cost fallacy.
But hopefully if they go down this road of meh too long, MS/Xbox will give the IPs to someone who’s more competent. New Vegas showed how well these IPs can work with a new perspective, and while it could get worse, we’re already at a point of “well this isn’t really worth my money” for a lot of folks.
They’re doing the right thing. I sincerely doubt there’s enough talent or even will inside of Bethesda to make Starfield a good game. If they want to keep monetizing it, they have to lean into the people who will accept any slop they vomit out, and so that is what they’ve done. Shattered Space sucked, but it was the best thing the game has done, if all you expected was more of the same bad writing and ugly action “spectacle” that Bethesda has been trying and failing to make work since Martin Septim awkwardly wiggled in front of Mehrunes Dagon and we were supposed to think it was a cool final battle. Now pack it full of low quality micro transactions that Bethesda don’t even need to waste dev time on and milk the poor dads who just buy Bethesda’s name and don’t know any better.
yeah, i’m on the side of ‘you shouldn’t call a failure the best game you’ve made’
If Bethesda is ever going to make a Starfield 2 they should allow Obsidian to do it as they also did the Outher Worlds and KOTOR II as well as Fallout New Vegas.
We didn’t want ESO. We didn’t want Fallout 76. We didn’t want Starfield. We’ve been waiting 13 years for TES6.
Shattered Space also shatters any sense of grounded realism the world somewhat hung on to by a thin string … completely torn with the introduction of fucking ghosts and planets that look like fantasy not just science fiction.
Listening to the manchild that is Emil Pagliarulo is a bad idea, considering his own personal history in and out of the game. Though it’d be unfair to place all the blame on him, he is the basically lead designer on most if not all Bethesda games. There seriously needs to be a discussion in the industry if Bethesda should still be considered a triple-A studio anymore. Maybe double A at most but no longer AAA…
Does this guy even play (other) video games???
Bethesda’s response? Here it is: 🖕 They already got your money.
Ah yes starfield, a technical marvel.
Emil is the embodiment of confidently incorrect
I think them focusing on the longevity of a game by feeling it with meaningless content is the issue. they didn’t focus on making a great game but one that will last forever. People play Skyrim over and over because they love the game not because it was made for them to keep playing.
To be honest, yeah they are somewhat right. It is the players fault for purchasing their garbage, After the fallout 4 fisco for me I have not bought another Besthesda game, I wait till I see if it is worth it and if not then do not buy it simple. people should learn their lesson with this DLC fiasco.
Is it really that hard to make fun, AAA games now a days?!
“It’s the best game we’ve ever made”
*the whole fan base hates the game*
Man, you gave the same take every other gaming YouTuber gave lol how is your take on this any different.
Exactly. Starfield is missing the strong and deep mythology and backstory of Elderscrolls and Fallout. In Starfield, when I briefly played it, I felt like I was on the set of a television show, like a space-based Truman Show. Uncanny and not fun.
They went from creating an adventure, to creating a comunity, to an enviroment, to a playground and now finally a marketplace. If the trend follows, TES VI will be pure advertisement.
17:35 Basic components are still broken or incomplete. Just watch the animation when you get up from the pilot seat in some of the cockpits. The clipping is there since launch. I thought it would’ve been one of the first things patched, better yet not broken in the first place. I don’t even know how no one at Bethesda caught this bug years before release.
What ISP have they created they bought Fallout and I do believe elder scrolls was limited… but as far as maps fo3 had wide open areas. I like the game not love it, I love to make critics play the original pong.
Emil is now a design director… the next promotion can and will only be game director… What a time to be alive when we’ll have Emil as game director while Todd either retires or becomes official CEO.
They are in complete denial of their creation. But hey, to them it just works.
People need to stop playing along with Bethesda’s extremely dishonest marketing. Bethesda doesn’t make RPGs, they make subpar looter shooters and dishonestly market them to gullible fans of their previous entries as “open world RPGs” even though there was zero player agency regarding quests or dialogue in Fallout 4 just as there is none in Starfield.
This is my game
o yes . we cant copy paste from others game. so we needed to do some work on it and it was HARD 😀 welcome to modern gaming
I look at every other Bethesda game and I’m very interested about everything related into it, I’m now in process playing new vegas
When I see starfield, how do I say it, it looks generic. Even seeing some gameplay, it’s just meh
I look at halo, I immediately interested, I bought the collection but have not yet played it
I’m very new to gaming, so yeaa
i dont even wanna live in the starfield world there is little interesting things in it unlike the elderscrolls
How do you make a game with a billion planets and not have a mission where you blow at least one of those planets up?
The only fan ‘review’ a company will understand is not giving them money. If people keep giving them money they will keep making garbage and gaslighting the critics. Personally, I bought Starfield on release but I won’t buy a Bethesda product again until the reviews come in. This is after putting thousands of hours on Bethesda games since Morrowind. They lost their way; I don’t expect them to find it ever again.
dunno why everyone is surprised. I played new vegas then fo4 and knew bethesda was cooked.
here is a thought this emil guy might be Todd Howard replacement, if that happens bethesda games are dead to me and my wallet.
This DLC would be great IF
– It did not cost 30€
– It introduced more content. 5 new weapons, some really oddly designed, dozen of side quests, rather annoying planet (mountains everywhere + that sky color makes my eyes hurt)
– actually covered more features – no space combat? Rly?
Overall, this DLC introduced whole new set of problems to the game.
So many F LOADING SCREENS
More and more Oblivion-in-Starfield mods are appearing, so it seems that the fanbase is playing the wrong game and hating Spacerim for not being an Elder Scrolls joint.
not even mods can save this game anymore.
Pagliarulo is the #1 reason Bethesda can’t succeed anymore. He’s too deluded and narcissistic to take any feedback constructively, he just cries on social media about getting negative feedback, instead of learning from any of it. They need to get rid of the schlock jock.
In terms of visuals, it is 100% the best game they’ve made.
i enjoyed shattered space, eve n if it was too easy for level 270
It does not matter how hard or passionately you worked on something if it’s bad in the end. Emil keeps conflating their view of the product from the inside, with the only view that matters: that of gamers. You’re not making a game to marvel at the technology behind it, to pat yourself on the back for working so hard. You’re making a game to entertain gamers. If you failed at the latter, then none of that other stuff even matters. You worked hard for nothing.
technical marvel? are you fucked? UE5 is a technical marvel. this is just bland.
The Game Still Crashes after a year!
Part of the problem these days is the overall lack of objectivity. When there are people openly campaigning to review bomb a game before it’s even released, it’s hard to draw anything useful amongst the noise. If this was just about Bethesda and this game, it might be understandable, but it’s not. It’s almost as if there is a vocal minority just looking for reasons to hate anything that comes out, from games to movies and TV shows. I find it sad overall and counterproductive to making things better.
Pissing away multimillion-dollar hit franchise: a Bethesda astory
Bethesda doesn’t even come close to deserving to have fallout on their “big 3.” All they did was purchase and butcher a fantastic original franchise with their efforts.
The negative hateful people are the loudest most miserable people. You dont hear from happy people as much, period. Explain to me how you make SPACE exploration seem more lived in. And explain how any game developer makes a game everyone will love. The majority are not posting negative comments and videos hating on games there enjoying them. There not running to Steam to make hate post either. If I made something I love and was proud of I wouldn’t change it for people who hate it. And just as many if not more will love it. If Starfield is not from you grow up and move on. Trying to demand they change it for you is childish. What about all the others who love it as is? There wrong right lol such dumb hateful logic.
Please please stop assuming Bethesda in 2024 is the same as Bethesda in 2015. 3/4 of the team that made games like Morrowind, Oblivion, Skyrum, Fallout 3, Fallout 4… have resigned, retired, or passed away. Bethesda is not capable of repeating it’s past successes. Microsoft should, and probably will ultimately close Bethesda Game Studios, and or replace it’s management, in order to reboot these IPs rather than continue to allow Bethesda Game Studios as it stands now to continue to do damage to those IPs. The ZeniMax purchase was one of the largest ever buyouts in gaming studio/IP history. BILLIONS were spent. The investors are going to both expect, and demand a return on their investment in that purchase.
Compare the love Bethesda put into Morrowind with what they put in this garbage and you’ll have a great understanding how far downhill this company has gone.
If they are waiting for Elder Scrolls 6 to be a massive flop to make some changes… it’s gonna ruin their reputation… beyond repair this time
I never played Starfield and may give it a go so I can have my own opinion on the game itself. But only when it goes on sale. It definitely does not look like a $70 game
8 years is an incredibly average ammount of time for Bethesda to spend making a game actually.
Emil will never admit the writing felt like script approved by committee
Top comment is an unhelpful, reductive “Emil/Todd bad” comment. I shouldnt be surprised, modern gamers think empty whining and directing hate at [insert employee who the community has decided doesnt deserve to be treated like a person anymore cause their fake videogane has issues] is criticism
This is the first Bethesda main line release that I haven’t bought.
14:25 I’m pretty well read (I’d like to think) and I’ve never seen “oppositive” used in any sentence ever, AI be gorging on dictionaries.
I love starfield to the core honestly but to put it up there with Skyrim and Fallout. Ummm. I DON’T KNOW ABOUT ALL THAT NOW. THAT’S A STRETCH. and I support starfield.
If this is the best they can do then ill wait to buy TES VI. The ganing industry is so trash man…
One of the things I love about Skyrim is that it’s a curated world; there was very little waste in Skyrim, every cave had something at the end, almost every NPC had a quest, it felt like there was always something more to do. Compare this to Fallout 76, which was initially supposed to be all player driven content with no NPCs, and Starfield, a massive universe with multitudes of empty, procedurally generated worlds, and you can see how Bethesda is going the exact opposite direction that a lot of us were hoping for.
We know what the fans want!
*sells tango games*
There is only one reasonable path forward. Acknowledge the failings and abandon starfield. Anything else is not profitable or even desired by anyone. Learn from the mistakes and just go full steam ahead on ES6.
A technical marvel with lots and lots of…

Emil ignoring criticism? Nooooooooooo waaaaaaaaaay
“devs worked on games, dlc all the way since morrowind ” …. hoo STEVE !! you mean STEVE did most of the work as it was pushed on him … AGAIN !!
the thing with fallout3 is that many followers were imune but refused to enter which was nonsense, emil always takes home THE WRONG lesson
As long as the money is coming in (and sadly it is) Bethesda never once will apologize for something they’ve done wrong they never even fully apologize for Fallout 76 from what I know.
I can’t fathom how Todd and Emil still have jobs.
Don’t argue with the opinions of the customers, it’s a no win situation.
Emil needs to be fired and black-listed from the industry
I have to admit, I was incredibly disappointed by this game. I was really hoping for a good game, but it’s just… dull. Like you said, there’s no life around you, it’s just you going from point A to Point B with a lot of fast travel.
The best game they’ve made quite frankly I think it ranks as one there worst, it is all rinse and repeat, building are all the same when exploring there is no originality at all, and I fear for FO5 and ES.
I was really hoping for a mass effect type game from Bethesda. Jeez I sound like my grandad but they really dont make them like they used to
Guys, making games is SOOOO HAARD! :,c
cuts to New Vegas
>10 MILLION USD
>50-70 people
>18 months
Starfailed is Beth’s CP2077, except I don’t think they are good enough to pull a Phantom Liberty. Only NPC I could name from memory was Sgt Yumi. Being a part time cop was fun 😁
BGS is synonymous with diarrhea slop in 2024
play no man’s sky instead
I’ve said this many times and I’ll say it many more. Starfield felt so close to greatness. Those first 10 hours of the game were absolute Bliss and exactly the type of experience I was looking for in that game. Anything beyond that is just AI generated slop and I am so sad that it happened like that
Stop letting community managers interpret our complaints and concerns for us….
I’m going to have to wait a month or 2 after ES6 comes out to make sure the reviews are true or not.
Emil gives me peter molyneux vibes lol
“Best game we ever made”??? Um.. NO.
I think we’re missing the most important piece: what are the sales numbers?
Companies operate on quarters and fiscal years. Fan feedback and reviews aren’t as important as sales figures. If Starfield, shattered space, and the micro-transactions are generating good profits according to their internal metrics, then they’re “good games”.
Yes, there’s a risk of losing fans but that’s many quarters and years away. You can make that up with marketing and new customers. If making a quality product like New Vegas or Skyrim again would be more expensive than Starfield without a significant change in profit, as projected by their analysts, then it’s never going to happen.
I pre ordered 76’s Tricenntenial edition and thus got to play the Beta. That game was not even remotely close to being ready for launch. Until Concord came along 76 was the most disastrous launch of any game from an established AAA studio. I have never played Starfield, because to me it just looks so uninteresting. It doesn’t look like a game that Bethesda spent 8 years working on it looks like it was 8 months. Why do all of the NPC’s look like the overly obsessed girlfirend meme from like 15 years ago bug eyed creepy mfers.
We keep shitting on Starfield and Bethesda will break Skyrim next too.
Spot on! It lacks depth. and that is why it feels empty and I never felt invested. I don’t understand why they cannot see that. I never really cared. Not like Cyberpunk where I felt so much. I cared about the characters, I cared about V. Here it just felt like I was fast traveliing around doing a lot of chores. None of the characters meant anything to me. Not even the closest crew.
Bethesda should address the glaring main problem of the game: The crazy, maddening repetitiveness of the game world.
This is caused by bad, very bad procedural generation. PG can be awesome, but it depends on the input. Bethesda just did a very, very bad job. This could have easily been prevented.
How many times do I have to raid the same base, with the same enemies and the same loot in the same places on all the planets? It drives me crazy.
My first bethesda game was morrowind when i was 11 and I loved it. I feel like they’ve been behind the 8 ball ever since oblivion. I wrote a post around 2007 on their forum criticizing the way they were consistently telling not showing with oblivion, a lot was happening on menu screens and their lack of animations made the world feel super static and broke immersion even back then. I feel like they addressed a lot of that in Skyrim, they spent a lot more on animations etc and it showed. But they’ve always been missing fun gameplay loops. I feel like every game would be a lot better off if they created mockup games first, using just mechanics. I.e. space combat simulator but use mock assets etc, and design a fun gameplay loop- same for combat. Their action combat has always been trash and nobody is really into that in 2024, we can have immersive roleplaying experiences with fun combat, see Elden Ring, Cyberpunk, etc. Its not easy but I feel like if they don’t start with the GAME portion of the game before building assets, concept art, etc it just ends up feeling tacked on.
Have they ever had an overhaul? They just add story dlc-s and workshop items.. IF they had EVER done any overhauls then our bethesda games wouldn’t still be broken 😀
The only reason anything ever gets fixed or improved is the modding community or when bethesda steals from them since they were lazy or not creative enough themselves.
I think it would be absolutely foolish to wait for them to have some major features and mechanic overhauls added. The engine just ain’t built for the things that would make all this space they “created” useful or engaging.. There’s around 10-ish major areas where there is life/a town/city in the whole game.. and rest of it is just empty, bloated, random generated space.
So it’s roughly a similar amount of content than past games but it’s all de-attached from eachother.. And that makes it feel smaller and more empty than ever.
You go somewhere do something.. and go like “that’s it?” And rinse and repeat.
While in past games every little thing was a piece of a grander puzzle of the story, world, relations and theme.
So besides of the fact that it’s a base to use for modding, I don’t see how this would ever be a good or a great game. The binding theme and atmosphere and immersion just isn’t there. And the random planets remind you of an early access indie game.
Couple that with all the loading screens whenever you go literally ANYWHERE and you won’t get any enjoyment from all that artificial “space”. It amplifies the loading screen syndrome as well since in the past games you could actually travel on foot to the areas you wanted to go to. But here you are locked into the loading screen travel because you HAVE to go to space to find all the content that is now spread out in the galaxy. While it used to be in a fairly dense and immerssive map.
You just end up with a whole lot of nothing that kills the enjoyment of the little bit of something you sometimes stumble onto.
If they just focused on one planet, this game would’ve been 1,000 times better.
the game looks good, has tons of assets, and style. It’s just lacking in meaningful content. EDIT: Juicehead is wrong the game was not worked on for 8 years also he sucks and so does his channel and all it’s content.
I like Starfield but I did not like Shattered Space. While I have not done some of the faction quests in Starfield, they simply do not appeal to me, the ones I did were very good and had a good storyline which is why I like Bethesda games and Starfield. Shattered Space storyline sucked.
The problem with Starfield imo, is that much of the game is pointless time wasting. So many conversations with NPCs don’t move the story forward. In both Skyrim and Fallout 4, I found most of the conversations were to do with a quest plot or the main plot. This is also reflected in most of the planets. Planets in Starfield are like caves/dungeons in Skyrim. They should be unique and fun to explore. Starfield planets and mob bases are all the same. The game has fun elements, I did have fun. But it’s not a universe I want to spend more time in than necessary.
7:46 There’s this concept called “Junk food entertainment” It refers to media which is low quality entertainment which you simply shut off your brain and enjoy it for what it is understanding that it’s poor in quality. In gaming playing trash games is akin to this in a way. I play plenty of trash games, I’ve played and finished Anthem, Remnant from the Ashes, Xbox 360 Sonic the hedgehog (as much as I could until bugs broke progression) I’ve got nothing with people playing bad games, I find enjoyment in it actually, and you are right people shouldn’t have to justify playing a game. But they should absolutely be called out when they start calling those games great or masterpieces. A person is allowed to take in and enjoy anything they want to within reason, meaning as long as it’s not harmful to others, but they don’t have a right to muddy the waters by acting as if trash is somehow amazing. Should you play Starfield? Yes. Should you enjoy Starfield? Yes. Should you tell people Starfield is an amazing game? No.
As reluctant as they are to receive the critical element of players’ constructive criticism, the refusal to hear the *constructive* element is even stranger.
Even when Bethesda’s games were good, fans were concerned about the increasingly strip-away design philosophy Todd kept gushing about. Todd continually dismissed the feedback, so here we are. Bethesda hit the inevitable wall that was coming.
Emil Pagliarulo sniffs his own farts.
I don’t think the DLC problem stems from the MS purchase of ZeniMax. Considering it only happened in 2020. The creation club has been around in Fallout 4 since 2017 with Patch 1.10. It’s clear Bethesda leadership want to push in a micro transactions direction.
The base game was decent to me but the fact that I was getting a 3-5 fps difference in some areas between a 3060 and a 3090 TI, was really frustrating. Have a 4090 now, but haven’t gone back to try it. It was just anther game that I mindlessly played because I didn’t actually feel the story or quests were enjoyable. The reviews for the DLC don’t make me feel like spending $30, is worth it to me. Will wait and see what happens in the future and maybe I will pick the game back up or even finish the base game for that matter. Going back to Fallout 4 to play the DLC I never had the chance to play, is turning out really fun tho.
Juice you are the best when it comes to Bethesda. You and Mr Matty are my go to
I think most of you people have lost the freaking thread here. It’s just a video game and on top of that it’s a Bethesda video game unless you’ve never played a Bethesda video game before then you wouldn’t realize that they are full of bugs and full of quirks and full of weird stuff happening all the time. It’s almost a feature not a bug. So on y’all need to get over it and realize it’s not earth shattering or life changing. It’s just a video game.
Bethesda will never make a overhaul of Starfield, they have never done it in the past and never will.
Emil is a clown and has been a detriment to Bethesda for years. Terrible person, terrible writer, no talent at all.
Howard needs to retire or go away. his time is decades past. Bethesda is trash, they are dead. ES6 will be a total trainwreck GUARANTEED.
There shouldn’t be a “Big 3”.
“Oh we feel we were the Elder Scrolls company!” YEAH PROBABLY BECAUSE YOU KEPT REMASTERING AND PORTING ONE GAME FOR LIKE 10 YEARS.
I always felt Bethesda like 10 years ago and earlier was a pretty varied studio. DOOM, Wolfenstein, Prey, Dishonored, Quake, Evil Within, Rage, etc etc. Saying “No no, we are varied because we have THREE BIG SERIES!” does the exact opposite to your reputation in this context.
If you want to make a new series, fine. Starfield isn’t my thing but if you wanna be proud of it, awesome. But don’t erase like 90% of the reason I even liked your company and pretend you’re doing me a favor by doing so. Especially if you are then going to treat the 10% left like this.
Bethesda: “We have this DLC thing down”
CDPR and From Soft have entered chat
Bethesda is dead
Bethesda is about to be the studio i associate with going out of business. Say hi to ubisoft
are they trying to gaslight us?
It’s the classic “inch deep and a mile wide” problem with Starfield. There’s SO much literal and metaphorical space in the game, but there’s nothing more than a sip of water for us to drink.
Even if Shattered Space was a free update it would not be worth the time playing it imo
Emil, you’re fired! Go home to Mommy.
No one asked for starfield could have had fallout 5 in early develupment now. insted we have to wait 10 years for that.
I get the feeling, listening to Bethesda responding to criticism, that they must be living in one of their own fabricated worlds.
I have over 7k hours in morrowind… way more in daggerfall….
*Enter loading screen*
They made it so we have base building, but with NG+? AND make it so our saves die if a single play through lasts too long? Heres some meaningless faction quests. Oh, and half my perks still dont work. Oh, but here, its a DLC that takes place on a single planet, and a CAR, in a game about SPACE TRAVEL.
*Exit loading screen*
Starfield was a waste of money.
I really liked starfield
Starfield is basically the worst parts of daggerfall without the good parts, only on a massive and even worse scale
I’m sure it was difficult to make, but it was also an incredibly out of touch series of decisions that led to starfield. It’s hardly an rpg, and it’s hardly a space exploration game.. It’s more like a procedurally generated dungeon crawler except there’s nothing at the end of the dungeons and the combat is nothing special
I and many other former Bethesda fans have been saying bigger does not equal better for over a decade now, and Bethesda keeps ignoring us and making their games bigger with less meaningful content.
For the love of God Bethesda; just give us a mid-sized open world game with meaningful questing and hand-crafted world design
Oh and fire Emil and hire a good writer
10:47 games as a service studio bullshit. WE don’t want that. WE want GOOD RPGs, HANDCRAFTED, WELL WRITTEN, LOW COST RPGs.
They are stuck in a corporate bubble. “This is what we do and how we do it. Period.”
“Starfield is the best game we’ve ever made” is honestly sad, my god they are huffing copium and refuse to admit that eight years was completely wasted. Your “best game you made” can’t even reach the player count of your older titles, which by the way people still talk about way more to this day.
“Starfield is the hardest thing Bethesda has ever done”, so why try to do that instead of focusing on what players want, something that can actually be accomplished?? We’re not looking for game studios to do the hardest things they can, just make a good game!!
“biggest, richest space simulation RPG anyone could imagine.” So Bethesda never heard of a little Spacegame with a small budget over 700.000.000$ made by Cloud Imperium Games. Bethesda is just living in their own Bubble.
I miss the Morrowind’s handling of the players characters. Unless you completed a significant chunk of the main quest to become known as reborn Nerevar, you were nobody. In Skyrim you have became special after 3rd quest and in Starfield during tutorial.
I think the problem Emil has is that because so much of the criticism is levied toward his writing ability (or lack thereof) specifically he is predisposed to minimize the importance of a lot of feedback because if he acknowledges it as substantive, then he also must acknowledge that he is unfit for his current role. Nobody likes admitting they’re bad at something and because he’s in a position where he doesn’t have to, he doesn’t.
Dude I can only assume the people that are shi&&ing on Shattered space, dont like Skyrim, Its DLC, Fallout 4 or It’s DLC, and Oblivion and the dlc that did more than add player homes or horse armor. And in defense of those dlcs for oblivion. That was literally the first ever time you could get dlc. Before that, you had to go buy expansion packs that were priced like full price games.
Starfield is fallout 4 in space. All the people expecting NMS space exploration, go play NMS. All the people wanting Elden Ring combat. Go play elden ring.
Let Bethesda lovers enjoy our game.
On my first playthrough of fallout 3, fallout NV, Oblivion, Skyrim, and even Fallout 4, once I got to a certain point of familiarity of the gameplay flow, I would binge it for hours and hours, some days off of school or work I would wake up and play these games all day, never getting bored. They were all constantly fun and with the content involved it would have that effect through multiple playthroughs. With starfield, it’s just boring. The gameplay loop, the quests, the dialogue, it’s just not fun. From the intro to the last quest to halfway through the new game +1 I couldn’t bring myself to play it for more than 2 hours at a time. I don’t know what it is but it feels uninspired and it just does not hold my attention.
Holy shill 🤣
THANK YOU!!! Starfield is vast like an ocean, but as deep as a puddle!
biggest richest?
did this dude dont see no man sky?
The story is written by a blind monkey they can’t write good stories anymore DEI hires rule gaming now
Bethesda has been getting worse since Morrowind every game becomes lesser then last.
They “SOLD” Shattered Space as a “Massive Expansion” on pre order.. I don’t need to say more..
Fire Emil now, completely delusional
I expected a much more tempered response from you Juice, you’re usually a lot more responsible with your investigative journalism and opinion pieces. I don’t know exactly what people expect, but I’m deeply saddened to see you hop on the rage bait train and become another voice in the anti-Starfield echo chamber, especially after you spoke so positively about it on release. I’m sure you’ll change your tune back once it becomes profitable to make positive videos about Starfield again, but until that day I’m gonna be unsubscribing.
They literally rereleased the horse armor in Skyrim. They learned nothing
Who cares what they say at this point? sf is a failure, dlc cemented this failure, and showed the level of beth competence, we can move on.
Marvel, never done before: like what? Seriously, what did BGS do that was so technically marvellous?
Starfield is the best they CAN do. It’s mid, bland and soulless. TES groundwork has been laid in the early-mid 1990’s. Fallout wasn’t even Bethesda, but an acquired IP of which all the ground was laid in the late 1990’s. BGS will never get better. They peaked 13 years ago.
Emil is so odd to me. He wrote my favorite questline in Oblivion, The Dark Brotherhood, and then when in charge of whole games he makes some of my least favorite stories and questlines. Hes not the single problem at Bethesda, but he is the most vocal.
Great video! I loved the 1st play through but something felt off. I couldn’t explain why I didn’t want to keep playing Starfield or the pre ordered DLC. You summed it up perfectly. The game doesn’t have any memorable quests, factions or non companion characters. I played and replayed Fallout 4 for 5 years straight.
I’m not touching ES6 until wks after relaaed lul
i delered starfield and never coming back to it.. 100$ in the can, i’ll remember.
Honestly. If that’s their best then they need to go back to what they are good at
I hate when games make cities that are a bunch of pointless walking screens with nothing to do in them and are just simply there to make the city seem big(just boring time waste) and Starfield is guilty of this
They have fallen so far behind the times it’s not even funny anymore. Graphics, storytelling, dialogue, characters, gameplay… It’s all about the sandbox and mods now.
I like Emil’s enthusiasm, I just don’t believe he makes good design decisions. If bethesda has to work so hard to bring such mediocre gameplay and experiences, they need to rethink their studio and workflow.
To me, all you have to do is look at the concept art and then look at the final product, to see how far they missed the mark. It looked so promising, and the design just fell short.
Mediocre developer that makes mediocre games makes another mediocre game. What’s the controversy?
Bethesda no longer has a lock on these kinds of games, as better entries in this game type show.
Something to note: horse armor for Oblivion wasn’t even the first DLC they made. It was the first paid DLC. They made half a dozen little DLC plugins for Morrowind that they charged nothing for. So the big pushback wasn’t that horse armor was too expensive (though that was part of it), it was this belief that Bethesda would start nickel and diming its fans. Which they have.
The older you get the more Benson’s speech about excuses becomes relevant.
holy cope batman
Emil is fantastic at saying things that are technically true while addressing none of the fan’s concerns or game’s criticisms.
crazy how pathetic emil is
Bethesda is dead on arrival. ESO the only game I’ll play from them, and that’s mostly because zenimax is over it. But even them, have gotten worst over the years.
Bethesda turned into Donald Trump..
It’s a MASSIVE game.. We worked so hard.. No one works harder than these guys.. a real technical marvel.. our best game..
it’s the studio you used to associate with elder scrolls, then elder scrolls and fallout
now it’s the studio you associate with a trashbag !! a canvas one
“we’re all proud of shattered space”… yeah, and that’s the problem.
Also just wanted to add, that I think Bethesda/Microsoft is setting up Emil to be the fall guy.
I think the best way to describe these guys would be “poor craftsmen with big ambitions”.
Their games are like gargantuan sculptures that are still blocks of marble in certain places.
I had every elder scrolls/fallout game on my xbox at the time of starfields launch. Once i watched the character creation in starfield before downloading it. I noticed something during the video (if you know you know) and instantly deleted ever bethesda game from my library. It will remain that way till they walk it back. Starfield is just a mediocre game anyways. Nms > starfield.
The take is simple. They either are very incompetent on the top (the devs are just following the lead, they could’ve learned a better engine easily in a single year then develop something better) OR they’re count because they don’t want to be responsible for a big flop right after the studio was bought.
Bethesda has turned into Ubisoft.
They have developed a factory formula for their open world games and are implementing it to all their games without any thought.
Unless they change this then TES 6 is at best going to be Skyrim 1.5.
I think what Starfield needs, and perhaps what the developers want, is a large community of modders to fill those empty, generic planets with life. This struck me as such untapped potential. Imagine how many small sub-factions and how much lore could fit in this universe. I’m actually a little surprised no one’s doing anything like this. With a game like this, a talented modder has the opportunity to contribute to lore by creating a mod so awesome that even Bethesda will acknowledge it. On the other hand, I hope there are still people who create things like Project AHO was for Skyrim.
Shitefield – Shattered Reputation :/
It is 2024, Bethesda shouldn’t rest on their laurels, and begin to innovate again.
They just need to fix their half baked design. Cyberpunk 2077 and No Man’s Sky overhauled their games. Doing that changed plenty of people’s minds about those games and their disastrous launches.
Some people were worried when they got to Starfield.
I knew what was coming since 76….
RIP ES6.
It’s becoming a common theme nowadays that when something, be it a game, movie or t.v. show, proves to be unpopular with those playing or watching it, the response from those making it or starring in it is to blame the players or the viewers rather than accept that what they’ve made is not up to an acceptable standard.
I question your statement that Starfield was in development for about eight years when Bethesda’s announcement about the game didn’t come out until 2018. How much was done in development is debatable. I love the idea of Starfield and to some extent the game itself but in the hands of Bethesda, this game is going nowhere and will never achieve its full potential.
100%
I miss the days when people would just enjoy something, without thinking they are owed something that they thought in their head.
Bethesda built a game. Like it or leave it. No one owes the consumer a explanation.
And they did learn from the horse armor.
They wanted to find a way to charge for little added content like the horse armor.
They did as the narrator outline in this worthless video that said nothing and co tributed nothing
Tin foil hat time but a part of me thinks Shattered Space didn’t land because Bethesda didn’t really care to make it land. I mean this DLC was part of the special edition, there was already a decent amount of people who’d have access to the DLC the moment it launched. Maybe in their eyes it was a case of not investing too effort into a DLC that a lot of the fanbase would have access for free?
They don’t care about what fans think. They pretend to care so it’ll ease some fan’s anger or resentment.
In reality this is just another corporate game company wanting to churn out unfinished games and DLC in order to make more money. Shattered space is only worth 10$ in my opinion.
Watched this entire video and yet no one can say exactly what isnt very good about it. What didnt fit your expectations? What didnt you like what would you lile
This video was a waste of my time.
When they released FAllout 76 , it was a masterpiece for Bethesda Games , and they were so proud of it
Unfortunately you can’t just manufacture a 10 year experience, just as you can’t manufacture the success of a live service game, see what happened to Concord. Success happens when people resonate with a game. The fans keep playing a game for 10 years because they love it. You can’t know that before launch…you can’t expect a game to be successful just because you think it will. You can’t make a game expecting it will last for years, that’s just not how it works, and it will only makes you lose focus on what’s important, making a fun game.
All of that’s nice but they made a game with a narrative that makes zero sense. If you pull at one thread the whole thing unravels secondly there’s nothing to do in a game. The fact that modders pulled out speaks volumes. You can make new IPs but it actually needs to be a game not a tech demo.
With this attitude we might as well go ahead except shat from ES6 !
They could make the game better by simply adding a 3rd person view.
Now that I’m really thinking about it…it almost feels like Starfield is taking a Sims-like approach. Like they released a blueprint sandbox with plans to just keep adding to it. Like there’s just a lot of stuff that is missing and maybe a few years those gaps might be filled and it will start to feel like a more complete game. Who knows maybe it’s just me. Maybe it’s wishful thinking. I guess only time will tell. I’m gonna try to continue to ignore the negativity and attempt to enjoy any content that they put out in the future.
I think BGS’s biggest problem is their games used to feel cool and novel and the charm of that alone made people overlook how janky, unpolished a lot of the other aspects was. But now they are doing things that other games devs have done before and quite honestly a lot better than them and that just mean people are not going to be willing to overlook those aspect.
What “content” is he referring to in the video? The base game is empty & the planets are just pallet swapped versions of each other.
No way to exit the REV-8 without console “disable” “enable”. Shattered Space isn’t activating at all on my Steam game. I still love the game overall. I’ve just come to hold BGS with quite a bit of disdain.
Bethesda is dead the best fallout was 4 and Skyrim will never get a Skyrim 2 the next elder scrolls will fall flat and the next fallout will never come starfield is their coffin let them rest
It feels like bethesda game that thay make now are a coin flip but the game thay publish and ather componys to make are good wich is disapoeing
I think something that also makes the game feel less “alive” is the sudden lack of NPC schedules. They don’t eat sleep or relax anymore. Vendors stay behind the counter 24 hours a day. I’m sure it’s for “player convenience” but it feels lazy
Hey Microsoft, time for RIFs! The arrogance of not listening to the customers that actually play these games is not something that is sustainable.
I think I agree with a lot of the internet that “starfield isn’t great” but often disagree with the why’s and to what extent. This video hits a lot of good points and I do think starfield is the best game they have made in a technical sense and has all the systems that people who like Bethesda games like but I think everyone can agree the problem is a little uncanny valley where starfield just feels disconnected from its own universe in that it is so difficult to connect to it.
I honestly wonder if the disconnected feeling is almost intentional in that your starborn is above and outside the universe they traverse but even if thats intentional it doesn’t feel *good*.
THREE DOG OUT!
Sorry haters, Starfield IS the best game Bethesda ever made and Shattered Space is awesome.
They should probably fix fallout 4, make starfield more like no mans sky, release remastered oblivion and morrowind, and release elder scrolls 6… then we might be ok.
I find it funny you all paid full price for this game that won’t happen for me, if it isn’t at least 75 per cent off I won’t touch it. Even then I don’t know if I’ll buy it. I did pay full price for all the fallout games. Not this one.
3:15 but my dude that is not what he said you literally quoted him 5 seconds earlier, he says it’s the best game they made in certain aspects and that is just true, for example it has the best feeling out of the box combat of any of their games so far and at least from my experience it’s also the least buggiest one (not that that means much for a Bethesda game lol). So he is correct in saying that and this comes from someone like me who does not like the game at all, I even refunded it after buying the deluxe edition to play it early. Then bought the normal version again a few weeks later, played around 60 hours and never touched the game again.
I cannot believe that their takeaway about the Fallout 3 ending debacle is that people were mad that the game ended
I would be significantly more upset with BGS is they forced players to purchase the Rev8.
It feels like I’ve gotten to procedurally generated quests now, and honestly, I had hopped for more.
Starfield in VR would be EPIC.
Deny reality and just humble brag – excellent strategy, Emil.
I think the Horse Armor comment is even worse than you’re giving credit for, to me it sounded like he was saying that Horse Armor was an example of a good DLC, and that they’ve only continued to make bangers from there.
I am a todd defender but i really dont like emil
Starfield is boring and a DLC that makes one somewhat interesting location doesn’t save it.
Starfield was a good place holder. Past that it’s not a great game. Like fallout or skyrim it just isn’t. And as for the shattered space dlc. I have no interest in playing it. Why would I want forced into a religion? Also for the price NO sorry. It is not a big enough dlc to justify that price tag. Seems Microsoft is just getting more greedy as the years go on. No real surprise though considering the way humanity is these days.
Can’t they just do the smart thing and replace Emil with someone that has the know how to be a main writer. Than a new engine is needed. More and new programmers. That they do good prodjects that does not rely on mods to fuction and exist for a decade. Because so far Bethesda peaked 22 years ago and has not made anything better than mid products. I really what Bethesda to do better and I what the people that did FNV to make a Fallout game. They know what Fallout is about. Starfield is a bad game and it is for the best for them to just write it off as a failed product, learn from it and move on, something they have not done in ages. Learn something new.
Microsoft should put a Gag order on emil hes tone deaf arrogant and a troll.
I’m on the other side of the fence, I love starfield and the shattered space dlc. It not the best but second best game they’ve made in my opinion. I don’t get bored with starfield like I do with the fallout games. Elder scrolls is the best franchise starfield number 2 and fallout number 3 for me personally.
sooo… they make content for the people who like their games, not for the people who dont
Shattered Space wasn’t as good as main Starfield. There are quest that I love like Entangled, Unearthed (great environmental story telling), Starseed, MANTIS, Juno’s Gambit. High price to pay really shocked me on the first play through and the follow up In Memorium was generally touching. Shattered Space was just BORING. The quest were meh. It felt like a throwback to Morrowind without all the fun of Morrowind.
The problem is that Starfield didn’t come together. I know everybody loves Skyrim but the best Bethesda game I played was Fallout 3 and the quests generally felt like one continuous story, Your story. A good writer/team can make any setting work. Elden ring is very character centric so you don’t necessarily need a lived in universe.
Emil is that kind off guy who removes a couple of ribs so you have easier time to smell your own farts while sucking yourself off…
EMIL OUT
Funny how some content creators who don’t like or enjoy are StarField, are still covering the game.🤔
Emil needs to go, Todd needs to wake up, Everyone who worked on Starfield needs a Slap in the Face. Of course mainly the people who think their work was acceptable. Literally nothing about Starfield was. Its a game that screams “I had no Script and i must yolo”
If ES6 Is Garbage I’m probably not ever gonna buy another game from them
In that same vein though. Other devs have done way better games in less time.
It’s an unearned title to put Starfield next to Fallout and the Elder Scrolls
Just because something is hard to make or takes a long time to make does not mean it’s the best thing you have ever made that’s just low iq thinking
Shattered Space would have been magnitudes better if Andreja had a much more noticeable amount of new dialogue
Emil needs to be fired.
“Shattered space was meant to give fans more content they deserve” Then why do we have to pay $30 USD for it…???
That vehicle looks like absolute trash, but at least now players can get to the copy&paste dungeons even faster!
Gss as me broke for me at around the 40hr mark and no patch fixed it so I feel like I dodged a bullet. Deff wasn’t gonna restart
It doesn’t matter yall Bethesda fan boys going to shill out for ES6 give them all your money again and we will be in the same position leading up to their next release and the cycle continues. Complain, shill get hyped and fall for trailers for new game, complain.
Face it Bethesda. You had a great idea and ended up making a dull game instead.
Wish ppl would stop buying from them
I’ll believe they’re making positive changes when they actually do it. And based on their track record, that’s not likely.
A response is irrelevant, they haven’t made a good game in over 13 years. The only response people care about is them making a good game which I don’t think the have the capability to do anymore.
Pushback all they want, still are dipshits that paid for it
I just don’t get why starfield was made in the first place. Bethesda has 2 of the best IPs in Fallout and Elder Scrolls. Just focus on those two.
Now starfield flops and no one is looking forward to ES6 anymore
Maybe now is a good time to go back and rewatch Total Biscuits review of Skyrim. He has been calling out all of this laziness since back then, everyone told him he was wrong? But really, was he? The games are only alive now due to modders.
I pre ordered Starfield at announcement, as a long time player of Bethesda Games since late -80’s. But it was such an disappointment once released. Played it for around 100 hours, to give a just and fair stance on it. And then shelved it. Installed it again now, since I had the DLC for “free”, not really free since I had bought the Deluxe Edition, but I would like to give it a try again and see if it had got any better, but same disappointment again. No sure, but it feels like that the Bethesda I knew, and now merged in to M$ mega corporation has gone to it’s doom. I’m not even excited for upcoming Fallout and TeS VI.
they have given me less product confidence prior to starfield I would have bought elder scrolls six instantly
Emil has the ego of a Roman colosseum. He’d rather be hubris than admit that he isn’t the best writer. Bro thinks he can be on the level of Stephen King or Tolkien.
To say that they jammed all they could into an xbox isn’t saying much about xbox.
It’s a loading screen simulator so yes it’s technically advanced game😑
I fully agree wqith Emil. If you put your feefees aside and your Starfield Derangement Syndrome (SDS), Starfield is the biggest, gameplay-wise most diverse and content-wise richest game Berthesda ever made. The online bubble who suffers from SDS is for a big part made of people who cry about procedural generation and simultaneously praises old Bethesda games like Daggerfall what bis completely created using procedural generation. When it comes to modding Starfield is on poar with Cyberpunk from 2020 and Baldur’s Gate 3 what came out a mont before Strarfield, it has 10,000+ daily players on Steam andat least the same number of players on PC Gamepass what ois the territory of Skyrim and Fallout. a core of loyal fans are building a fan community despite all the hate around the game. Stzeam reviews aren’t Fan-Reviews, they are mostly blind hate, inconsistent at best, pure rage at worst. And if you go back in the Steam-Discussions to shortly before the launch of the game you can clearly see the hate-train organized before the game even lainched.
Technically speaking it Starfield looks really nice. The graphics, the animations, look very pretty. I don’t see a lot of clipping or glitching or teleporting ect. BUT the quests and lore are ABYSMALLY UNINTERESTING. I can’t bring myself to play it for more than 30 minutes. Meanwhile I can go back and play Fallout or Skyrim for hours on end.
Emil… my dude… have you seen Phantom Liberty? Shadow of the Erdtree? If you think Shattered Space can hold a candle to what your competitors are putting out, you and Bethesda clearly don’t “get” DLC.
What about the fact Fallout 4 has been killed by its parents. 😢 I think the fans would like for it to be fixed. But what do I know I am just a dumb customer. As long as I keep giving them my money they are happy. 😢😢😢😢 #noloveforthefans.
Shut up and consume product.
Pretty much the only thing I want from it is immersive space travel. It’s the biggest blight on its systems in my opinion. The fact that I have to pause the game and open a menu to travel around is pretty lame. Like you open a map select a route that has 5 jumps then instantly travel to that location via 1 loading screen is crazy. Just let me fly my ship in this spaceship game.
Bethesda are in for a rude awakening when the pre-order for ES6 goes on sale. I, and many others, will be waiting until the game is fully released and dust settles in the fallout before even considering buying it.
I love Skyrim.
More AAA slop, the future is in the independent game developers. AAA is too big and cannot innovate.
Just checking player counts across all platforms. Looks like 6.5million players thos month, and 300k playing this hour.
So yeah, there are clearly a LOT of fans loving the game. Maybe that’s why Bethesda are so confident.
At the end of the day, actions speak louder than words. If listening is happening, it isn’t being reflected in actions.
I expected more of of them and expect more going forward. That’s not unrealistic.
I wanted to come back for Shattered Space but honestly, I just hated Starfield, I see they’re fixing the game and there were updates since it came out but since I played in the first few weeks I just can’t come back and then creations popped up and it just completely turned me off, I’ll wait for TES 6 and Fallout 5 and go play the older games especially I want to go back to oblivion for a bit since I feel nostalgic and I played all the other games regularly.
I appreciate you holding BGS to account along with MrMatty. You’re both my top BGS channels, but I appreciate you’re not just blind fanboys that don’t provide them with the criticism that both Bethesda need, and are being the voice of the community.
Shattered Space is a piece of the main game that was sold to whoever sucker bought this game early on, no one wants to admits it but it`s the truth.
The stupid fucking thing about this is the “they want to live in the world we create” is what MORROWIND is. Its a story telling device where you can live the role-play your character idea in a world that feels real. Bethesda feel like they simultaneously know thats what people want and also dont want to make that. Also Bethesdas writing is just plain bad. Most people wouldnt have as many issues with the game if the main story was super sick and well written.
More developers are allowing users to mod their games to the extent bethesda games are.
Once this becomes normal practice bethesda will just fade away.
How about you fix all the missing textures and low quality textures.. that’s what I have a problem with Bethesda
Oh no, I absolutely agree that this is the best Bethesda can do. After all the games they have made since Oblivion have been utter garbage.
They needa fire Emil he just straight up doesn’t care about making something good
Emil coping so hard, delusional and needs to be removed for someone who understands what fans want.
Bethesda would be better off zipping their gob shut 😂
Starfield will be playable in 20-odd years once a myriad of mods are created for it.
In the meantime, I’m bored. Time to play Morrowind.
76 needed a big overhall to become decent so why can’t they except that Starfield does
BGS has put more effort into their failed responses than they did starfield
I enjoy Starfield a lot, but you are right about “hitting the wall” about 70-100 hours in.
At this point you’ve acquired a decent sized ship, all the guns and armour, infiinite money, ammo, meds, food and crafting materials, and discovered nearly all random POIs (many multiple times). Essentially you just conquer every single system there is. This is even with mods to reduce POI density, reduce ammo/meds, sustenance, environmental hazards, survival mods etc.
So you still have a ton of quests left to do, but the motivation to do them disappears, because there’s nothing interesting left to grind for on the side.. It would have made so much more sense if choosing a faction locked you out of all of the other’s content until your next play through, forcing you to complete the game sooner. That way you start at the beginning of the grind for resources again, but this time you will be doing it as a pirate, or a ranger…etc.
It also would have provided great opportunities to pit the factions against one another.
Instead what we got was I’m sure a committee decision to make sure all content is available to all players no matter what they choose, which is boring, dumb, and kills the very replayability that they seemed to really want.
They need to vastly increase the pool of POIs. Thing is, they can’t justify charging money for that content…so they likely won’t bother, but I guess we’ll see.
Shattered Space was in the pipeline since before anyone actually played Starfield…so whatever big content update comes next may a more targeted response to the feedback from the base game (hopefully)
It’s a failed game, the people that made the magic of Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim don’t work for the company anymore.
Without the curated bespoke worlds and proper storytelling ambient, hidden or explicit, Starfield is just a husk.
It might actually be the case that this is the best they can do and that’s why they are patting themselves on the back, the problem here I think is one of expectations and standards, all BGS can produce these days visibly cannot meet the expectations of the players who still play their older titles and BGS are simply not competent to even meet the standards set by their own previous entries.
TLDR, Starfield is a failure and an exhibit of BGS being incompetent.
Haven’t played Starfield, but from what I’ve seen and being talked about, it looks like people expected Fo4 in space, having in mind the patched experience, when Fo4 wasn’t received all that well at first either, and got disappointed Starfield wasn’t what they expected. Meanwhile, I’ve been having a blast with what I’m seeing in every gameplay footage I’ve seen. It looks to me, Starfield is like 90% of the way to becoming EVE offline and an actual ARPG along with a great combat system and gameplay mechanics that look incredible. It’s already what Elite Dangerous failed to be. Y’all just need to chill.
space simmulation is a bit much … better call it science fantasy like star wars,
it has magic, unrealistic space travel, all planets are solid even gas giants, you dont have to check on fuel or something like that…
I dont say it makes the game worse but in my mind space simmulation looks way different
( its less a space simmulation more a loading screen simulation…just joking but for real you dont do much in space)
When you cannot finish the game after having the $99.99 version. How would you feel about a $99.99 video game that you cannot finish? The game crashes everytime I get near a gun rack. I cannot even craft legendary weapons from scratch. Everytime I try to craft a Legendary weapons. The game crashes hard.
So basically I have a purposeful not finished video game. That Bethesda love to lie and claim that my XboxS is the problem and not their programing.
Basically it is a broken video game that Bethesda is still trying to get paid from. Even though they know it is a purposeful flawed product. 1 entire year, they never fixed the game. But they have the nerve to add more broken content to an already broken game.
I love Starfield. I even loved Shattered Space. I also didn’t buy it myself, and wouldn’t recommend this game to almost anyone. There is glaring and obvious flaws. Problems Bethesda always had, only magnified because of how the game is.
If that’s their best we are all screwed, no more good games from Bethesda.
Ok so how is it that if I go to a restaurant. Order food. That food is stale or its not cooked enough. Or it’s legit frozen still. The restaurant will refund or fix the issue. But selling a game these game devs blame the customer? Huuuh. So ok at that point what I’m hearing is oh we intended it to not be fully cooked or totally frozen and flavorless.
Presumably there is some kind of “GECK” for Starfield like with the other games. It takes mere minutes to add space flight to Fallout games, so should be a simple matter with this game. People who complain: Simply make it however you want it to be…
I don’t know what a Starfield 2.0 what even look like for me? Maybe combine those 1000 planets into 100 more interesting ones. And have some actual, professional script written for quests and dialouges..
a few tweaks to exploration would really help this game. random modular POIs . more factions randomly appearing . stuff they could easily add. i reckon its coming in an update. itd be crazy not to if they want people to keep playing . still dont get the hate , best space RPG ive played
Yeeeeeaaaahhhhh, not excited about ESVI, I have a feeling its going to bomb. At one point I would have blindly thrown money at this company for what ever they put out, but at this point IDK if ill even buy another one of their games.
“more of what they deserve” is a bold choice of word. say that and give players a crappy product makes it seem like you look down on them. they really didn’t think their choice of words through for this interview did they?
Not only they are making their recent games too much woke looking (look at character designs, and how white men seens almost extinct in Starfield + not very feminine looking females) but they also are missing the point on density of content for a DLC. If they said it would be a “Automaton” level dlc (or automatron, whatever) I would be fine with it, but they wanted to compare with Far Harbor.. the best dlc they made after Dawnguard. So, yeah.. these guys are too out of touch, the wrong people is in power in the company. I’m not hopefull for tes6 at all.
Still have their head in the sand…
1:30 Elder Scrolls responds, big three it’s just big me. And drops a 5 track run of starfield disses in response.
Why should i play Starfield if I can play Cyberpunk instead?
the intersection of bethesda not caring and short-sighted fans making excuses for lousy games is how we got here. bethesda has been dead since skyrim and both of those groups are somehow loving it.
i would not be even remotely surprised if there is never a starfield 2.
Elder Scrolls 6 will be great, the lore, setting and action is what the fans really wanted…space is boring, empty like real life in space, no way it had a chance. Once ES6 starts and you find that first cave or dungeon to explore fans will be happy again. Starfield didn’t have that walk randomly and find a garbage can with exploding doll or different enemies like Elder Scrolls
Emil needs to go. He shouldnt be lead writer.
Bethesda just ain’t it anymore I’m not even looking foward to fallout or elder scrolls anymore, after playing games like new vegas, cyberpunk and the witcher it really shows just how shallow their games are
The guy is so wild for saying “there are people who like it” that sounds like something a toddler in an argument would say. I’m more shocked that there actually could be starfield fans
I swear, i have ages for ES6, if they put it out and it is garbage I will be totally down with Bethesda games forever.
I didn’t even complete the main story to Starfield…I gave up and went back to playing Modded Fallout4.
The response: “Thanks for the criticism but this is our game, if you don’t like it you can go lose yourself. Leave the door closed behind… Thank you guys!”.
yes, for me you nailed it
Honestly. Bethesda got a free ride for a long long time due to the modding community.
Skyrim was lightning in a bottle, true.
But they built on the narrative bones of a world written by far better more creative writers that Bethesda long since kicked out.
Emil should rename himself as peter
Clueless crybabies.
Look at the Nexus Mod page, then look at Skyrim’s and F4, loads of the major authors are still ignoring Starfield a year after launch! Mods keep Bethesda games alive, and the lack of interest from the main mod authors points out to me personally that Starfield will wither on the vine over time.. I put over 1k hrs into Skyrim and F4 both, but 167hrs is my total for Starfield and I can’t ever see me reinstalling.
Starfirld is NOT a big game. Its a few tiny hand ctafted areas and a bunch of cut and paste 1km by 1km of randomised squares. With tbe same generic 4 or 5 objectives on every sqare.
Its a trick to fool idiots into thinking its big. B
I think there could be 2 easy fixes to make the exploration better : -make modulable POI with random associations, so you never know what you will discover.
– Make factions interact with each others. I want to move to a planet and hear a distress signal about an UC base attacked by pirates, something like that.
Adding random villages and small towns would also be great make the universe alive. We heard about a BIG wars for the control of the galaxy, but you can find only like 5 cities and some random scavenger camps with 3 people inside… honestly it feels like pirates are more numerus and powerful than both the UC and liber astra…
Is a fan of fallout 4 we kept telling them that this was no longer be acceptable and we got 76.
0:07 genocide might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but what is?
We know dlc’s <> Riiiigggghhhhttttt….
we buy bethesda games so that modders can turn them into the games we actually want to play
if they could write a decent narrative at the very least, i would excuse basic qol features missing to be honest, simply because i expect bethesda to always fall short
My best Bethesda game is Obsidian game;Fallout New vegas 😅
I think I need to try starfield again. I didn’t quite get into it when it came out because I was traveling a lot. Now that I’m not, I may try it again. I need to rebuild my PC and give it a fresh start.
well it only took modders 9 years to give us a new fallout game (Fallout London) So maybe well have something like that for starfield. All this news makes me sad. I want Bethesda to make good games. And i didn’t play starfield that much but it just didn’t grab me like Skyrim did or fallout 4. (That and it didnt wart to tun smoothly on my pc). hopefully good things are coming.
Only reason Bethesda isn’t going the way of Ubisoft at this point is they’re too lazy for even a 5 year release schedule 😂
And yet the Mass Effect trilogy still craps all over it nearly 20 years later.
And those bellends still haven’t fixed Fallout 4 after they wrecked it
I think Bethesda needs to up the standard for what they do. But, to defend them — DON’T FAST TRAVEL. I rarely fast traveled & enjoyed the role play element of getting in my ship & taking off, same with landing. It’s how the game was meant to be played, it isn’t their fault ya’ll made it more boring…..
Dude Repeated Himself Like 3 Times. I Want 14 Minutes Of My Life Back
tl;dr starfield disliker says he dislikes that starfield devs focus on starfield likers and say that there are more starfield dislikers like him that dislike it. amazing
fix fallout 4 you trash devs
I mean yeah, Starfield is different. It offers different things than other great games. That is why it is nice to play some Starfield then some Kingdom Come Deliverance and then some Cyberpunk 2077. Fallout 4 and Skyrim as well 🙂
god just stop buying their “games” . the only way they will understand they are doing something wrong is by losing money . yet here u are getting hyped again and preordering tes6 asap .
Bethesda is getting the “fake it until you make it”argument a little to serious
Man just fire Emil at this point, dude is so insanely tone deaf it’s wild. Also as you mentioned I can remember specific random quests in Skyrim and I haven’t played in 2-3 years. I played through 2 faction quest lines and quite a few random side quests, I have zero motivation to start up the game and try playing through the last main faction quests. I enjoyed starfield it just feels empty and uninteresting after 30-40 hours in the universe and dozens of “random” locations with spacer after spacer.
Its fine if someone like that game but also that players need to understand, if they going on to buying all that sort of games, mods or dlcs the dont get a better or similar game the next time. I know, most of the people dosnt inform herself about gamedev or the industry, thats btw the only reason becaus companys like Bethesda or EA could go on like that. Its a complex problem that we only can solve if we stop buying there games. But how to inform that people and get tehre attention?
I enjoyed ss, my only gripe is i wish it was longer. A year wait for that?
Stalker 2 around the corner.. all those fallout players just going to go there to get there fix since Bethesda has failed to deliver. Over and over.
What i dislike most about Starfield was the lack of RPG mechanics and good story. I can forgive random generation, empty void spaces, clunky mechanics and lackluster visuals. I can’t forgive crappy storylines and being railroaded, and i had hope before Starfield launched, when Bethesda said they were going back to their RPG roots. I’ll just focus on other better games while Bethesda slowly drowns in mediocrity.
A lot of hate here. Let me play devil’s advocate. My initial impression of Shattered Space was, ‘that’s IT?’ when I finished the main quest. However, unlike many it seems, I actually started exploring and came across many side quests that were lengthy and engaging and interesting! Those sucked me into Varunkai more than the main quest. I am still discovering quests as I explore the areas like I would in Fallout and quests would pop up. These side quests provided the context for the whole mess. I’ve sunken more than 10 hours into side quests, which is more than the main quest.
Of course, many of the complaints are valid and I’m sure BGS will address them, but the game is just over a year old. Have some patience. Phantom Liberty came out 3 years after the launch of CP2077.
Anyway, I have a theory on why there are no evil companions. Unity is a judgement mechanism and currently it only allows you to be ‘good’. Unlike Mass Effect, being Renegade can get you to the end of the game with great endings, StarField doesn’t have this and it’s not immersive the way Fallout New Vegas & Mass Effect were.
Now that we got the cosmetic of the game down, it’s time for BGS to explore expanding the base story to have an alternate path so NG+ is more interesting. So much of StarField is about looks without substance. IE., the story really needs work. This means we get whole new evil path like Andreja is the perfect bad companion since her family were in a smuggling ring. Barrett and Vladimir being war vets should get more ambiguous story options, etc.
I mentioned this before. StarField being on XBox Game pass causes a huge loss of revenue to BGS. Selling stuff on Creation is the only way they can get revenue. Players who paid full price should be given discount for all future purchases in Creation for 1st party mods.
The weapons and armours also need rebalancing.
And yes, BGS really need to share more on what they are working on like CDPR. Less they become like Bioware and Ubisoft.
“biggest richest space sim ever made”, no. Emil just no. you’re a moron. Starfailure has no growing fanbase, it doesn’t even HAVE fanbase, let alone a big one.
Starfailure has not got a huge amount of content, it has a minimal amount, tf are you smoking?
I guess doomslayer is chop liver?
this game is not worth it
Starfield isn’t a game it’s a loading screen/walking simulator. That missed the mark on what made bethesda games fun.
What’s funny is Mass Effect 1’s exploration felt way bigger and more rewarding than Starfield, despite also being plagued by large empty planets with copy/pasta buildings.
Let me just respond to Emil for a moment, As a huge sci fi nerd and fan of RPGs especially the more immersive ones that are all following on from Morrowind in one way or another Starfield should of been the easiest sale in history to me as a consumer, I don’t own it, have no plans to own it and would be genuniely surprised if I ever even play 1 minute of it. I don’t care how good you think it is as someone who really could be assumed to be a core Bethesda customer (I own a copy of Future Shock from its original release ftr) in what is definitively my core story telling setting (sci fi is way better than fantasy imo) something went wrong and ignoring that isn’t winning me over.
Starfield has lots of content? All ive seen is the same 10-20 handcrafted bases/ points of interest surrounded by uninteresting generated landmass, space travel is non existent all it is is frustrating ship combat.
I love Starfield but the Shattered Space DLC is trash, overly dark, fighting same boring enemies, buggy as usual, plot not fun at all, dazra city is a joke won’t even call it a city
Cant be shocked when they sell you a short DLC for $30 when they think 1 quest is worth $5.
Another quadruple A game
I have faith that Todd will listen and do the right thing by getting a competent lead writer. Either that or Emil has an embarrassing photo of him.
Bethesda’s plan is to pretend the empire isn’t crumbling. Typical liberal mindset.
“Starfield is a technical marvel” yeah im sure it is, because you pushed the Creation Engine to its absolute limit and its limit sucks, stop acting like the engine works Bethesda, Skyrim 15 years ago released with literally THOUSANDS of bugs… Modders fixed and pushed that game, not Bethesda. The Engine sucks, they just are so comfortable with it they dont want to take the time and money that it would take to either build a new engine and train everyone on it or pay to use a different engine, they are being comfortable and comfort leads to complacency, they need to evolve or fall, and Bethesda, we’ve already waited 15 years for the next Elder Scrolls, whats a few more years if it means you release an actual good game with a new engine? Or rush ES6 on the Creation Engine anddddd yeah
Its not starfield, its called SkySpace
Imagine if Starfield would be, let’s say, 10 planets handcrafted with the explorable size of Skyrim map, another 10 planets at the usual size of expansions, and like 20 others that are barren, hazardous, and practically empty, for players to use as they see fit. Like building bases, or use it for mods.
It’s a great game. People complaining that after “60 hours” they are just fast traveling etc feels for me rediculous. Play Skyrim and Fallout 4 in the release version without 100 mods and before all the dlc and patches. They also were not that awesome as we think of them now and they were real bug fests compared to starfield. Starfield is not perfect but I understand that for a bethesda game, it is great!
I had a bad feeling about starfield and didn t bought it early. I thought, Nice it will be at 30 buck soon, when first sale arrive, i knew it wasn t worth it. I fear es6 will be the same.
Todd and Emil gotta go, they are snake oil salesmen
Emil sucks
The idea that Bethesda is the company that is now known for “Elder Scrolls, Fallout and Starfield” is laughable. Lore videos on a random Elder Scrolls Character that has 3 lines in the games get more views than official Starfield Trailers. The Starfield Player count increased from 10k concurrent to 15k concurrent when the DLC Released, only to drop back down the day after. Fallout 4 and Skyrim Have about DOUBLE That. And they are years to DECADES older than Starfield. You failed, Emil. Nobody really cares about Starfield, and you should be grateful for that.
Let it Die. Move on. Salvage what remains of your tarnished reputation and NEVER TWEET AGAIN.
I gave up on Bethesda a long time ago. Its ridiculous how long they have sat on ES6 in the time between games I have had three kids one now a teenager and my hair as gone completely grey. Why they pumped out mediocre games no one wanted. F*ck you Todd. I wouldn’t even buy ES6 if it does bother to realese before i start drawing a pension. Starfield was the last straw they ain’t getting another penny from me.
Ive said it before and I’ll say it again, I don’t think the people at Bethesta play games anymore, I think they’ve lost the hunger because they’re getting old and too comfortable
It is funny how all arguments made here have been made by the “haters” over a decade ago.
This is literally what the “Fallout debate” has been on about. The fans of the older games and NV see how the games are falling into a pit, but also see how all other Bethesda games are falling down the same pit.
Then you have the Bethesda fanboys screaming about how we are just haters, how we think NV is a prefect game (when no one ever said that), and just tie a blindfold around their eyes, say something about FO4 sales and jump into the pit.
You are now in that pit. And I am standing outside of it and laughing at you down there.
Took you long enough to realize it.
Starfield is sitting in place 162 in the Steam Charts right now, behind titles like Timberborn, Cities Skylines 1 (!) and 2, Stellaris (8 years after launch), Skyrim (13 years after launch) and many others, with about 4500 players. If that’s what Bethesda consider a “growing fanbase” and basically their crowning achievement, then everyone at the Studio better get a new job. The amount of denial is truly breathtaking and the studio continuing to exist is an insult to game development everywhere.
Totally different, totally boooooring.
I really fell sad for Starfield. There is a good foundation and there is so much potential, but I am really not sure if mods can fix it this time. Maybe they will, but it will take years.
How Emil is still a part of bethesda is beyond belief… He is honestly the reason many people just dont buy their games anymore
I think the best devs have either retired or left. They’re left with the DEI hires and the wokies. At this point they’re just resting on past glories. I have no hope for ES6..
I feel like they’d do a lot to win people over if they implemented a few simple additions/fixes.
Like not automatically appearing outside your ship on landing, or being able to rotate ship habs and choose where the doors and ladders go.
I do have issues with the “technical marvel” bit. I understand that wrestling with a 20 ys old graphics engine requires a lot of hard work. But from a technical standpoint, it’s utterly impressive. Tons of bugs, mediocre graphics, tons of load screens, which were kinda unavoidable in Morrowind, but a major nuisance even in Skyrim already. Nothing about Starfield strikes me as technical impressive, apart from the obvious struggle of stitching this kind of game together with their ancient engine.
All I expected of Bethesda was to make a game I would actually want to play, but apparently I’m asking too much.
After all, they’re content patting themselves on the back for making videogames as exciting as a bowl of plain oatmeal, who am I to expect more for $70+ in this economy?
Players: “The story is boring, the lore is nonexistent, the dialogue is cringe, and characters are instantly forgettable”
Emil(Lead and ONLY writer for the game): “This is the best game we ever made!!!”
It is kinda funny he talks about everything but the writing in the interviews/Shitter rants…
Starfield will be fine. People, or grifters who want clicks, said the EXACT same things about how Fallout 76 would kill Bethesada and destroy mankind.
The writing was on the wall with Fallout 4’s disappointing main questline.
Emil is a bellend.
If Starfield is the best Bethesda has to offer in 2024, then I have very low expectations for TES 6.
The writing was on the wall long ago since fallout 4. BGS has been riding the highs of Skyrim and has never since understood that it is not a triple A studio anymore. It got lucky and that was it.
WHERE’S MY GIANT SPACE SNAKE TODD?
BGS = Trash
Bethesda was my childhood, but they just don’t make games for me anymore, it’s been over 10 years since they made a game I really loved so I’ve given up all hope on future entries in their series.
Starfield isn’t connecting with the masses because it isn’t designed for them. Skyrim somehow hit the cultural zeitgeist of 2011 that let it appeal to non RPG fans and casuals. They listened to the Vocal minorities in the masses and made a Voiced Protagonist for Fallout 4 which irritated their loyal fanbase, they don’t understand how Skyrim appealed to Hardcore and Casual fans alike, you can see this in how they changed Starfield from being more survival based with having fuel be required to travel from system to system to how it is now where they fuel consumption is still showed but doesn’t matter apart from ship build. Then there is how they decided to keep the shops open constantly because ‘Casuals’ won’t want to press two buttons to wait for it to open, Add in the Legendary weapon spawns and unlimited leveling and it shows that they don’t know how to keep the attention of the ADHD Generations, so they resort to ‘look something new every five seconds’ contrast this to having empty worlds for realism and they’re sending mixed messages.
Starfield is probably their best game for dialogue in quite some time but then they messed up in other areas.
They need to decide whether they want to please ‘Some of the People, All of the Time, (Hardcore fanbase) or All of the People, Some of the Time (Games like Skyrim) because they can’t please All of the People All of the Time (F4, 76, Starfield) Attempting to is causing their games to have personality disorders
They should just make their games to their style and let the fanbases sort themselves out. They can’t do nothing about the ‘people’ who want lightning in a bottle Twice, their hardcore base is larger than ever but they’ll have to accept that other gamers and casuals come and go.
The gaul to call Starfield one of their best is absurd. I’d argue it’s their worst, 76 is better now and that’s because it’s had 7 years to fix itself. Are we gonna have to wait 7 years for Starfield to be good? By then ES6 should hopefully be out hopefully 🤞, but we probably will be disappointed with it too. I don’t know where the disconnect happened but really after Skyrim it’s like BGS has gone farther and farther away from what their players want out of their games.
Me 10 years ago : Bethesda is my favorite sh.
Me now : I hope Bethesda close.
Only game/mod I’m looking forward to is Skyblivion
I have to disagree with you. Starfield is for many of us at the level of Fallout and Oblivion. I have now played and enjoyed Starfield more hours than the aforementioned combined. And I have well above 100+ hour in both series while above 400h in Starfield. And quality time I might add.
after 343, ubisoft, it seems Bethesda’s turn is around the corner
mind you it’s not like we want them to fail, we want them to actually learn and listen to the players to improve
Juice is disconnected
the main issue i think is that it’s not bethesda as a studio responding. it’s just emil, and he seems so dismissive of criticism. he has shown 0 signs that has taken on board or considered any of it. and his past talks saying how he ignores fans feedback doesn’t help. they need a response from bethesda as a collective that says they are listening
In the industry they no longer know what to dress up as. Another year like this, and in 2026 there won’t be one left standing.
the next fallout and elder scrolls will be the same, massively smaller worlds but just better graphics
Starfield has 10k players after a DLC
Meanwhile, Skyrim Special edition has 25k. And that’s not including the other editions and the huge modding community.
*angry_joe_4_hours?!.gif*
It’s up there with the BIG THREE 😂😂😂😂
I’d never pay full price for dlc content I haven’t had the shattered space dlc instead I started a new fo4 play through and put starfield down haven’t played it since the release
Fo4 is way better than starfield I started my Bethesda gaming journey with fo4 then played elder scrolls then the other fallout games
The only thing that is genuinely good about Starfield is the IDEA of it. And maybe the ship building. That’s pretty cool.
We can see what it could have been, so those of us who stick around is because it is just the closest to what THEY THEMSELVES promised, even though the folks who think it is are just lying to themselves. We didn’t set the bar with ‘high expectations’. They set the bar with their promises and claims.
Once Squadron 42 releases, I’m gone.
That already has mechanics from that game has already been done with Star Citizen, and it DOES include taking off from a planet and seamlessly going into space. Squadron 42 will be Starfield for adults, meaning that Starfield, though it does have some cool scary and serious missions here and there while there is still some mystery before Bethesda’s bad storytelling ruins it into becoming yet another cheesy interpersonal drama, Bethesda’s stories are always lighthearted and more bad 80s action comedy than serious high stakes action mystery.
Watching the rage keep going, then watching the steam player numbers slowly rise month after month since well before Shattered Space amuses me. I have 600 hours in it, there’s people with way more, and even on Reddit’s main page now you can find a ton of people who legitimately like it.
No, it’s not anywhere near flawless. Yes, it’s monetization’s rough for a single-player game. And yes, it’s never going to be for everyone. But it clicks really, REALLY, hard with some people, and Bethesda HAS been improving it. People are acting like it’s bad because almost everyone and their mother bought it, and then discovered that no, space games don’t tend to have global appeal. But that’s what it is: a sandbox space game. Compared to literally everything else in that catagory except No Man’s Sky, Starfield’s doing phenomenally well on the Steam Charts, even at its lowest point, and it has been climbing on average for months before Shattered Space. And even when compared to NMS, it’s not doing that bad, currently 9k average players instead of 12k, with very clear reasons to prefer one over the other. I do think it has a chance to “eventually” become one of Bethesda’s big three, and I mean that even before a theoretical Starfield two.
Talk is cheap. How many times did Skyrim get remastered and re-released?
I liked Starfield when I played it on launch, the gunplay was fun, ship building and ship combat were also enjoyable. I love that you can board other ships, fight the crew and then take or loot the ship that felt so cool to do. But the game felt unfinished, the companions were boring, the main quest was boring, the game itself was unimmersive (compared to Skyrim and FO4) due to npcs not having life schedules, romance options were utterly laughable going from yes lets go on a date to marrage within the same conversation! Also the over reliance on half procedural generation was frustrating as so much felt copy & pasted, because it was. Its not even proper procedural generation. They have hand crafted locations, with fixed lore and then just copy & paste them in to random planetary locations when you load in to the world space…
The main reason I did not bother playing Shattered Space, eventhough I bought the early access version on launch is this dlc solves non of the reasons I stopped playing. Shattered Space is basically just the House Vurun faction questline… That’s it. Its not a proper expansion for the game. As an example, just and look at all of Fallout 4s 3 main expansions. They all provide way more content than Shattered Space. Also, I forgot this, but all of Fallout 4’s 3 main expansions and it’s 3 minor dlcs came out within 9 months of Fallout 4’s release! That is impressive.
Shattered Space took them almost a full year after release… This is a serious drop in quality from Bethesda which makes me seriously doubt their ability to deliver anything of quality anymore. I certainly will not be buying the next Elder Scrolls on release, whenever that comes out.
see the standard baton animation
Yeap, starfield really does sits perfectly next to fallout 4… on par with the rest, failed to compete obsidian
Honestly, just give all the resources to Obsidian and tell Bethesda that you want half the quests with the semi open world with serious polish. Outer Worlds was way smaller than Starfield but for me it’s by far the better game
these game company got too comfortable being entitlement to our money.
The fact that he thinks back on the horse armour DLC, a universal example of a bad DLC amongst video game players, with pride should tell you everything you need to know about these hacks
To me Stanfield isn’t bad per say but that it feels like a very early access
I feel like we need to petition for Emil to be fired. The man is incompetent and the biggest threat to ES6
They might be trying, but they keep failing. The Fallout series has some of my favourite games in it and my favourite game. New Vegas. None of the best ones are Bethesda made. Three was good, but it still is like the 4th best in the series. 4 was bad and 76 abysmal. I don’t trust them with the IP anymore. Starfield had (new) fallout vibes without anything that makes it good. Skyrim was good but dumbed down from the past games and propped up by modders. Vanilla is still good, though, and I have spent a lot of time in just vanilla Skyrim. I do prefer the prior games with more role play aspects, but I’ll give elders scrolls another shot. I have the feeling. They just don’t have it anymore, though. Lost it a long time ago.
At this point I think the only interest i have in Bethesda is how this all ends.
“Not everyone’s cup of tea”..
When you sell people a cup of tea, but instead supply a thimble of warm water… Expect complaints..
imagine saying the “biggest space RPG anyone could imagine when Star citizen and no man’s sky already exist. Are they even listenning ?
I’ve said it before, but BGS is an echo chamber. Emi and the lead designers don’t wanna listen to the fans. They go “we’re BGS, we made Skyrim, we make perfect games because Skyrim did really well” They need to step back listen to fans and re-enter the creative headspace with the feedback in mind, but they won’t, and Emi certainly won’t. I’ve heard on his own he’s a nice guy, but when it comes to his writing the guy has a massive ego.
For god’s sake, it ain’t a controversy, it’s just the consequences of their own actions coming around to bite them.
It’s sad to see. I’ve been playing since Morrowind. I would love ES 6 to be a 10/10. But the delusional fans and devs won’t allow it. Starfield had “very positive reviews on Steam when it came out. Delusional players affirm Bethesda devs in their own delusions, that the games they make are perfect, and everyone who criticizes them are haters.
Here is another channel using the same oxymoron to describe people again – “FAN” – someone who is fanatical about all in relation to a subject. You can not consider yourself a fan if you do not like something regarding a particular subject. From that point on you are no longer a fan ?!
It does not matter if I like or do not like bethesda or starfield personally but the term must be used properly in order to convey the argument which is that some people don’t like Starfield and others like it. Some people like all that is Bethesda others do not. But “Fan” ?? please. I was a fan of this channel until this point therefore I am no longer a fan does that clarify it.
This is nothing new. The last game they were honest to the players with was Morrowind, and few to none of those devs are still around. Bethesda has been living under a bell jar for two decades.
Can we please PLEASE get more sci-fi FPS RPGs from developers that care? Preferably moddable as well…
Just like Ubisoft, they have lost touch with reality and their community.
“Something totally different” as in not TES or Fallout? Yes. But people were expecting a game that would complete a trinity. Starfield is not it.
Fire Emil, please. He is like a cancer for Bethesda
At this point we all know TES 6 is going to suck unfortunately…
It’s pretty safe to say no one could give a s**t what Emil has to say and I’m probably
not alone when I say he is a lousy Writer and Bethesda should let him go.
Well, there is hoping that by Starfield 2, they’ll figure sh*t out.
Indie devs: PLEASE make moddable FPS RPGs. I don’t care if they look like PS2 games, actually that’s cool. But Bethesda need competition: they clearly don’t care any more.
If this is bethesdas best, it just goes to show how low they set their bar
I mean, I personally know someone who liked the Saints Row Reboot and that was hot trash- sure there may be people who love the new DLC, but it’s apparent those people are lacking taste.. They probably should’ve just grabbed Todd for this interview, Emil did mental gymnastics to deal with the negativity and didn’t provide all that many agreeable answers.
Im really hoping Bethesda becomes the next Ubisoft. Im a former Bethesda fanboy who now wants the studio shut down. Bethesda and Todd are liars and act in bad faith towards their customers over and over and over and im sick of it. Personally my disdain for the company began the second I seen the ‘Fallout 1st’ bullshit, where if you dont give them monthly payments you cant access the scrap box ( a tool 100% necessary in a game with scraping and building mechanics). I want a competent developer who hasnt been infected with DEI slop and has a proper game engine to get a crack at those coveted gaming IP’s Fallout and ES……..Bethesda ‘It takes us 15 years to make a video game’ game studios.
Starfield is simply quantity before quality. Stale industrial gaming slop par excellence. Doesn’t matter how much passion (LOL) the devs may have put into it, because it simply doesn’t show. The flavor simply isn’t there. The seasoning that makes the dish come together is missing. Starfield simply is the astronaut’s nutri-paste meal of games. Bland mush without texture or substance. Slop.
whats funny is it will be about 20+ years till starfield 2 so……..
If you support garbage, you get more garbage. Bethesdas gameplay loop has been copy and pasted to oblivion at this point. I have no more interest in they’re next game.
I had hope for Starfield, cause I was expecting a generational leap, an evolution to the Bethesda formula, to their gameplay loop and storytelling, but instead we got a dumbed down Space Skyrim. Their engine, and NPC scripting and AI was completely gutted, theyre writing is mind numbing and formulaic, and their world generation and “POI” system for plopping down the exact same 20 or so structures ad nauseum – got repetetive after 5 hours of landing on random planets. They kept saying their game was huge, it was not.
And the best aspect, the spaceships and customization, was pointless, there was no real space exploration, or proper space missions, it was just a menu based fast travel system, withh no real in-depth space flight or space missions having you travel from nav point to nav point completing objectives. Freelancer did Space better over 20 years ago.
And when you complete the game and go through a “loop” the game wipes your ship… 🙄 These guys are completely disconnected from their consumer base.
I love Star wars , i love mass effect , i wanted this game to be next game i could back and replay….
the absolute hardest thing for them was probably making a 10 dollar dlc and ask 30 for it and honestly believe people agree.
if ONE understands DLC it ain’t Bethesda …
Starfield a technical marvel IT IS NOT lol. Starfield being Bethesda best game they have made, it is not. Skyrim is still a FAR better game than Starfield, both in content, story, and replayability.
The problem is Bethesda doesn’t see horse armor as a problem. From their point of view, they see it as an event where a lot of people complained about it but they were still able to be successful with it so it doesn’t matter. In other words, they consider that two dollar horse armor a success story and all the complaints about it as just a temporary setback that they just needed to weather through. This is the problem when marketers have too much of a say in game development and that they want to focus their development largely on whales. In some ways they are right, but its a shame neither the developer nor the whales see how this will negatively affect the quality of the content for the long-term. Then again, Microsoft has probably left their studio as intact as it is because they follow this spiel.
Guys, stop watching videos of games or anything you don’t like, it is not good for you. Feeding negativity in your brain is making your life worse, I’m not kidding.
I don’t think about games I don’t like at all.
Starfield living in the head of people who don’t play it, rent free, is something weird to behold.
The last game that literally upset me like that, because it was bad was Redfall. I played it on launch week, uninstalled it, and haven’t thought of it since.
Haven’t watched a single video titled ‘Look how bad Redfall is’ or ‘Redfall creators respond’, the only video I will consider watching will be titled ‘Redfall is finally fixed, look how fun it is now’ if that ever happens.
And most people are like that, we don’t waste time watching videos about things we don’t like.
Stop doing that immediately, it’s a bad habit, your life is finite, you will die one day, stop burning your valuable time on getting yourself upset over games you don’t like.
Block all youtubers who push the ‘look at how bad this game/band/car/place/whatever is’ they are ragefarmers.
Bethesda seem to think that “people want to inhabit our game worlds” means “people want to stick with the same playthrough forever”. That’s why their games are big piles of disconnected “content” now: So that this hypothetical nutjob player, who categorically refuses to make different characters and has no interest in role-playing in a purported RPG, can do every single quest and activity in one go, whether that makes any sense or not.
Big problem of Starfield is the story and lore. It´s just not exciting.
Emil gotta go. Starfield feels like an xbox 360 game.
Bethesda. Doesn’t. Deserve. Our. Money. Its not even about if the game is good or enjoyable: its about not letting a company bend you over. We should have more self respect than this.
Chasing horse armor mods ruined Sim Settlements 2 – the Dev overlooking bugs in it to work on chasing money. Ill not forgive Bethesda for corrupting that community.
Keep in mind that TES6 will be compared with the next Witcher and Cyberpunk, and CDPR had a complete studio revamp after 2077 that you can see how much sharper they are after that with Phantom Liberty. There’s the next Larian RPG; Obsidian and Inxile are also gearing up to release some of their best work, Bethesda is really looking behind everyone and there’s nothing suggesting they are trying to improve on their shortcomings.
Can you please make Non-Spoiler versions of these types of videos?
I can scroll down and just listen to the audio but just an idea I can watch.
l have 7000 hours in Fallout 4 (building settlements) , 192hours in starfield ,have’ent finished it yet. And the settlement system sucked so no reason to stick around.

The DLC probably created a lot of traffic on GamePass.
For a 30$ price tag the DLC is far to content and feature starved.
Question is if Microsoft really wanted to promote off store purchases?
The pricing to me, only makes sense if you want to sell subscriptions.
Did they somehow miss the positive critics?
Even the hardest Reviews praised ship building, the buggy and a few other things, yet the DLC is totally featureless on release day.
9:02 where’s the hand crafted stuff?….. I fully completed the game and the only hand crafted things the few slightly larger side quests like crimson fleet questline……. Other than that everything else felt like procedural generation including the main questline.
Juice is Cooking 🔥
Bethesda needs new Writers
1000’s of hours in each of Skyrim, Oblivion, Fallout 4, Fallout 76. Only 2 hours on Starfield and I wish I got them back.
IM CALLING IT, ELDER SCROLLS, FALLOUT,YOU WILL BE MISSED,WE HAD SOME GOOD TIMES,🤗& 🤬🤮BAD, 🙏 R,I,P.
Head writer: Story doesn’t matter
Credibility destroyed in seconds
my disappointment in starfield gave me the motivation to get into game development and make something better than it
The problem with Bethesda / ZOS : they think they are better than you, they think because they make video games, they know what the player should enjoy, while they don’t even play games, they don’t play their own games enough to know that they work before they actually release them.
The best fallout game that has Bethesda‘s name on it, they didn’t even make.
The only reason Skyrim is good at all, is because it was the first of its kind, now so much better has come out.
If they can’t keep up with what CD project red has done with cyber punk 2077 and Larian studios has done with boulders gate three, they won’t make it.
The bigwigs at Bethesda don’t care about the players opinion, all they care about is the stockholders opinion, and the numbers on paper.
Sounds a lot like toxic positivity to me with a pinch of gaslighting.
The game is objectively a massive failure… “But the designers and the studio worked so hard on it they deserved for me to give an optimistic and excited interview.”
It’s not the hard working designers and the studio’s fault that the game is not performing. It was 100% the leadership’s fault who didn’t give them proper direction. It’s not the designers fault that they had no design document. It wasn’t the basic devs decision to have procedurally generated planets, instead of handcrafted locations and environmental storytelling.
Beteshda didn’t have the tech to make the concept of Starfield work they should’ve started with something smaller like a Skyfield where you have say, settlements separated by procedurally generated hostile territory like a jungle that also includes some hand crafted cells that the player can skip using a plane or flier.
A concept like this would be easier to iterate via DLC, all you’d need to to is replace the procedurally generated hostile territory with hand crafted locations.
And loading would also be easier to hide instead of having to load, space, planet, city cell, you’d use what they used in Skyrim LODs.
100% done with bethesda personally, im on the wayward realms hype train and have dread delusion and monomyth to hold menover until then
Elder scrolls 6 is looking worse and worse by the day and we haven’t even seen any gameplay yet😭😭😭
Its a shame Emil didn’t *completely* plagiarise Vernor Vinge’s ~ A Fire Upon The Deep’s lore, dialogue, characters, aliens, landscape, instead Emil only plagiarised the theme/story, what a missed opportunity (allegedly).
I’m not sure why I keep hoping Bethesda is actually gonna fix itself. I never loved fallout 4 but I didn’t feel like the company was doomed or anything. I just thought the game wasn’t my thing. But ever since then things have just kept getting worse. Creation club bullshit, fallout 76, starfield. I haven’t given them a cent since fallout 4 but I keep checking in like a dummy, hoping for something that might look or feel like Skyrim or Fallout 3. But it never happens.
Pathetic. Eso 6 is dead.
There is no controversy. It’s very clear. It’s bad. Really bad
I actually enjoy the basegame more than shattered space XD
12:40 juicehead cookin
My biggest problem with Starfield is how inconsequential everything is. Say you finish faction quest, it doesn’t change state of the world at large that much. You build yourself base after base. You become producer of everything. In the end of the day it doesn’t matter. You go through unity only to do it again. The whole game design, the ending and new begging make every decision you make during the game hugely inconsequential.
Emil has invested in those charisma stats– but yes there are always going to be whiny fans wanting everything now like a toddler.
Emil is my goat
…. Bethesda is right…… Player and fans dont understand what Starfield is.. and why its seen as a success by Bethesda….. Its simple… Starfield is a single player live service game …not a Bethesda RPG what fans think (and wanted) as long Starfield makes the money they expected its a success……..
Personally I was hoping for Aliens at the end of Shattered space. But it ended up just being the same thing. I was dissatisfied for that reason.
Bethesda should just sell their IPs to another AAA studio. Maybe Larian or CDPR.
Never forget that this studio BROKE Fallout 4 and walked away.
0:15 this is a clown take whoever wrote that bs
starfield was jus mid has nothing 2 do with perfection oblivion wasnt perfect and skyrim wasnt perfect
starfield was sliiiiiiiiiightly below average game period not even mods can really save it atm
FUCKING EMIL , THE GALL THE HUBRIS, THE COPE. BETHESDA HE WILL BE YOUR DOWNFALL, YOU SHOED AWAY CHRIS AVELONE FOR THIS JOKESTER
they cut off there own legs jammed a buncha spoons up them selfs and we said we kinda liked it better when you had legs to which they said dont you see we had to cut our legs off so we can fit the spoons in
Stop making excuses or make way for new talent(that isn’t woke). Bethesda is the perfect example of why everyone being a millionaire is terrible for production. You got your leather jackets, congrats, maybe go show them off at the local dive bar or something.
Mostly negative = tons of players loving it.
Have some dignity, man!
Bestshetda is dead in my eyes, i have zero hope left that they will ever release another good game..
Currently, Bethesda’s own community provides the player content that’s better made, more exciting, and in less time than Bethesda themselves. Generally works better, too.
I don’t care how it’s spun, or who says it, Bethesda are either in trouble, or have lost it. One thing is for sure, they’ve been totally lapped by their contemporaries and completely left behind. CDPR have ate Bethesda’s lunch, and then some.
It’s actually embarrassing at this point.
Starfield has half of fallout 4 ‘s current players on steam, and a 4th of skyrims if you count LE and AE together. Starfield has much to be desired sadly.
I’m still going through phantom liberty and there’s no way I can go back to starfield or it’s dlc. I’d much rather go back and play the main of cyberpunk again than starfield
Bethesda learning how vehicles work is like a monkey smacking flint onto a rock making it spark while all the other studios are behind a glass wall writing the progress down
If Bethesda takes Stafield like success – there is a lot of success for them in future …
RICHEST SPACE SIM??
Emil just needs to stand down, his rise in the company directly correlates to an overall lowering in story telling quality.
Emil acting as if Star Citizen wasn’t out for almost a decade prior Starfield. Copium at it’s finest
The dev team at Bethesda likely worked really hard making breakthroughs to heavily modify the outdated Creation Engine for both Starfield + Shattered Space DLC.
With all the negative feedback after years of hard work, it should be understandable that the in-house devs, designers, and coordinators (human beings) across the board felt very discouraged and disappointed after…but of course they are likely contractually prohibited from voicing their frustration to the general public.
So Emil (PR guy) pretty much is trying to subtlety, professionally, and reasonably speak for and express the aforementioned frustrations to the public. It was a mistake to express frustration and expect empathy from a riled up consumer base, oh well, but at least he tried and everyone knows that BOTH sides are frustrated.
Starfield has potential it just needs more to it more meat the dlc was fun for a week but I completed everything already once again, if they think shattered space is like far harbor they couldn’t be more wrong.
I know Todd is showing hints of retiring before the next fallout game, but I hope Emil would realised that at some point you must step aside from the spotlight and let the new generation of writers (the actual story focused ones) take the stage which we can find a find a good story minded replacement to take the lead for any new games or updates/dlc/expansions for current games.
I hope they shift him down a little and do background type of lore writing for minor things while allowing a fresh mind that would work well alongside other staff, before Todd does his retirement. I hope the ego from both sides die down and not cloud the future for the studio as it has already, I know full well Emil needs to have a reality check and open his eyes but sadly I’ve seen some downright pathetic things from our side too, such as threatening them (death threats… really guys…) to attacking each other for having a different outlook for something. We *both* need to have a reality check it seems.
”Starfield is creating it’s own fanbase” the modern audience!
Elders Scroll said “FXCK THE BIG THREE, IT’S JUST BIG ME!”
I remember what turned out to be a bug invisible enemies.
No shimmer no out line I had to find my attackers by looking for muzzle flashes from thier firearms.
Made me jump and panic looking for a target attacking me was one heck of an ambush and put me on edge carefully exploring the building after that.
I was looking forward to more enemies like that but alas it was just a bug… but wow it was a fun one.
The writing has been on the walls for over a decade now, if you would have just opened your eyes to see it.
“it’s our best game ever” man…the bar is so low that even if that was true, it’s hardly an accomplishment
Todd Howard actually thinks Horse Armor was a good idea because a bunch of people paid for it. He will die on that hill. “No it couldnt have effected peoples opinions of us or the work we do. Because some people bought it”
I’m glad to see you finally do an honest review instead of just cuddling the devs. Thank you
At least it’s not about pronouns again
4:22 sure bro, You put more into this than Phantom Liberty 😂
It’s like they are saying we are committed to build this game out, but their actions are telling us they are slowly trying to ditch the game.
Dance with the ones who loved you.
Starfield is a good game, made even better with mods. Build a good PC, visit Nexus mods, and enjoy a masterpiece.
Emil buddy, pal, mods are asking for money for a single gun skin, your dlc is far worse than before man is delusional.
Emil has been THE problem at Bethesda since Fallout 3. Oblivions writing was SO AWFUL that his absolutely mid level performance with the Dark Brotherhood got him promoted to lead writer, and its been downhill ever since.
Whiterun literaly has more of everything worthwhile than all of starfield….
Couldnt be more obvious…
I said something similar to Adam badowski for CDPR regarding what happened to cp2077 and they permanently banned me from the official forums for “rudeness” which was the most pathetic excuse I ever heard
Wait… They know how to insert DLC into the base game. Hmmm… can’t integrate DLC content into vanilla games, I have to use mods for that. Last I checked Automatron completely takes over random encouenters in Fallout 4.
I understand that it’s something different for them, but when other games have done a better job and you have seen what their failures looked like, maybe you should learn from their mistakes.
I mean, the DLC contains the only fully handcrafted planet, and it shows, it’s easily the best planet in the game just based on the massive amount of quest (and memorable ones like the ghost in the orphanage, and recovering the relics from the spacers that stole them from the tomb of the fang), and real dungeons that contain actual independent stories instead of a ton of random uninteresting poi’s that are solely there for loot and exp. The game still has flaws, like the garbage Fallout 4 system that really wants to be destiny 2 or boderlands and fails, real flying ships, and a black hole my god why isn’t there a black hole, along with the paid mod thing are just some of the complaints I still have but Shattered Space’s design philosophy is definitely a better direction for the game than the base game’s. I feel like most of the people complaining about it didn’t even bother leaving the city other than the main questlines.
Bethesda wasn’t upfront about the different type of exploration and the huge need for immersion breaking fast travel, they lied to us and hyped it up big time.
The biggest richest space simulation ever ?
Looks like Tod isn’t the biggest liar over there at Bethesda.
How out of touch BGS is…im worried for TESVI
I don’t see how they can fix the story problems. The entire main quest is silly and lacks drama. I was hoping that Shattered Space would be at ‘main quest’ scale. When developers build fetch quests to pad time, it’s interesting gameplay that carriers the player. Gameplay can’t carry a story. Players will just feel like giving up if the narrative goals are not interesting.
Emil used chat GPT to write all the useless trash in starfield.
He’s a moron; but don’t get me wrong – I’m not the type person to insult people.
here , have some double speak back asshole.
My biggest complaint with the game is how boring it is, not just the world, but the story and all of the charecters. It might be easier to overlook if the actual fun bits of the game werent stretched out between multiple loading screens, dead exterior cells, and layers of abysmall UI.
It’s kind of sad that due to how tight of an information lock down that Bethesda has had since Fallout 4. We basically only learn about how bad things are Behind the Scenes from Emil. And he is quite literally the worst spokesperson you could possibly have
Emil is a hack writer who is deluding himself about this.
Tbh, Emil should just quit
Emil is a good example of the Peter Principle, in my opinion. He did great working in past things, including the dragon language in Skyrim and the Dark Brotherhood quest line.
But placed in charge of an entire world, he just wasn’t up to the task. It wasnt all his fault of course. There were multiple people who didn’t quite hit where they were aiming. But being a front man means taking flack if something goes wrong.
So tired of the hate they are getting. I have a blast when I play. Expansion is beautiful and engaging.
the “big three”
if starfield is the best they can do then interplay should have let fallout die with them
I love fallout 3 and NV such a shame we got 76 and the awful show
Howw is Emil still employed?????
The only thing Starfield did decently was the gunplay. I’m not sure what else he thinks Starfield does better than their other games.
Delgado
The company has no future if they can’t look into the mirror, and say they fucked up
Tha fallout 3 ending was justbas scandalous as the horse armor DLC.
The broken steel ending should already have been in the game in the first place, effectiveky they sold us 2/3 of the game then.
If Emil refuses to take criticism, then he needs to be fired. And since Todd is too lazy and smooth brain to do it, we all need to go over his head and pressure Microsoft to fire Emil. I have various ideas to do it and I strongly plea and urge all of you to follow it if y’all want a good Elder Scrolls 6:
*Boo Todd Howard at the next Game Con he’ll appear and mass chant Fire Emil.
*Spam pleas to fire Emil to every official Microsoft account.
*Mass Refund Starfield
*Threaten Microsoft with mass refund and boycott of Microsoft games.
*Repeat.
I don’t wanna hear any of you saying this idea is ridiculous. It’s better than allowing him to ruin Elder Scrolls 6 and any future Fallout games.
This game is one giant puddle, for sure. Just can’t force myself to reinstall it for dlc I already bought day one (like an idiot)
Emil needs to go. Todd probably does as well, but Emil really needs to go. His DNA is rotting that company.
These guys are speedrunning to become the next Ubisoft. Makes me sad. They were once very pro consumer.
I know bethesda gives you content to spew about… but really? I personally am not going to miss them when MS causes them to go belly up. the only way games maintain freshness and creativity is if independent games developers replace the stodgy old behemoths every 8-10 years, on a regular treadmill. Stay too long, get too big… your welcome is worn out, your creativity is dead, and you do things like sell horse armor.
Bethesda is the Dallas cowboys of the industry because why else who you deliver bad product and say were all in 😂💀
A game where a lot of the “massive amount of content” is very shallow and disconnected, with a new game plus system built into the lore that carries over almost nothing – Starfield almost feels like a game designed to burn out players by instilling a sense of how little anything matters.
The amount of times i tell NPC’s to stfu, or cringe at stuff my companion say…. The depth isn’t there and the world building isn’t believable. The story writing is immersion breaking because it feels like it was written by a disconnected autistic who views the world via an innocent teenagers eyes. black and white story options. It was growing old in FO4 but this is just plain insulting now.
Someone needs to ask AI to generate an image of Todd with a “sharted face” look.
From what I got from the interview and Emil responds is just that they are clearly disconnected to the community.
Emil, Todd and any higher should be replaced by someone who knows what to do and what the community wants because they are clearly they don’t know what the community wants or what the game needs to be good.
Harsh but this needs to happen or else ES6 might be in trouble if they keep doing what they are doing right now.
Its simple, dont buy their next expansion
Only then they will learn, just dont buy it
Amil needs to be downgraded in his position, he has been the head of the terrible writing with fallout 4 and starfield.
They just need to except that starfield was a huge fail and move on.
Don’t waste anymore resources on it.
Hopefully, Microsoft will make them do that.
The dlc made me realize the bethesda we loved is dead
Why all the hate. Starfield isnt for everyone but i would argue overall it is still a pretty good game.
”Admit nothing. Deny everything. Attack, attack, attack”
Elder scrolls, fallout and Brink
Emil is living in a fantasy world. If Starfield were to ever have another release it would be a massive flop. I think Bethesda Game Studios knows this too. The truth is BGS has skated by because of their priorly established fanbase. But that fanbase has been burned on their last two game releases so I don’t expect them to be able to continue on with people giving them the benefit of the doubt anymore. I for one won’t be.
Maybe this Emil guy should just shut up and take a back seat in these stuff…
Bruh you have to delusional if think starfield was good or it is a marvel and calling it to be part of fallout and elder scrolls is just insulting
Exploration is what really destroyed the game for me. Land on a planet and found a Research Tower. Okay, this is fun. Find some Dogstar something that’s being run by robots. I find skeletal remains and piece together the tragedy that happened there. It think “This is good, I’m liking this so far!” I find a Starship Crash Site and think “I wonder if anyone is alive? Maybe I can help someone?” I’m still enjoying the game. Then, I notice the pattern…the cookie cutter shapes. Every Research Tower is a copy of the last with some minor variables changed. Same layout, enemy and loot placement, everything. The only variation is enemy type and what loot is in the chests. Every one of those factories being run by robots is exactly the same. Every starship crash site is an exact copy of the last. It starts to feel like I’m stuck in Groundhog’s Day, reliving the same explored locations again and again and again. A wide open ocean that’s only 3 inches deep. I still remember feeling the great weight of disappointment as I realized how pointless exploring the 1,400+ planets in Starfield really is. Will Bethesda ever fix that? Nope. Will Bethesda sell me a $5 asset flip in their paid mod storefront? You bet they will!
I am not a big fan of those creations but compared to for example the diablo 4 ingame shop or the assassins creed helix store 5 bucks for 1 spacesuit is actually pretty cheap lol
When they release the Indiana Jones game will it then become Elder Scrolls and Fallout and Starfield and Indiana Jones, their big 4?
Emil…… Emil never changes.
Unrelated to the topic, but does anyone know what the sword is at 3:41 ?
I personally sunk 220 hrs into Starfield, the first 20 hrs was fun, then it spiraled into copy pasta boring as I started exploring more of the factions when the temple bugged on me and the landing zone would not spawn for me, even though I couldn’t get a new one to spawn from the eye. The factions started out fun as well until that too started to become copy pasta, with each faction just feeling like the same old with a new coat of paint. And those too bugged and broke so I could no longer push through the UC questline after a major revelation.
So I decided to push the main quest again and found out why earth was the way it was which by the end of the main quest and moving into ng+ felt like it quite literally left so many plotholes with how certain things were happening there.
In ng+, I realized we lost what we had grinded out with the exception of a few things, and 1 being what bugged on my first playthrough and I felt cheated even more than the copy pasta bs. Why not allow us to keep the ship we took and what was on it or ourselves to be kept, or even a quest to pick them up somewhere through a mini quest.
I appreciate that some enjoyed their time with this, I personally was hoping for a universe closer to Mass Effect in diversity of cultures, alien races with intelligence, and technology as Elder Scrolls and Fallout had both felt that way when I sunk thousands of hours into those games and their worlds. Also felt it was a stale universe considering it was missing a universal economy, zero reason for different ship habs to exist outside of crafting benches, zero reasons for outposts outside of a stupid and boring xp farm exploit. Only 4 companions/ship crew were fleshed out to feel like actual characters. Leaving it to players to fix this with mods felt intentional and felt very lazy.
Appreciate people covering Bethesda response as it does come off as tone deaf, especially since they only respond to criticism with them just closing their ears to the complaints and are like at least these ones like it, making those who didn’t feel like they weren’t fans.
Which is not true, complaints in gaming usually mean the fans want to love it and are hoping steps are being taken to develop it into something they can love despite it feeling one way at launch.
I personally was waiting to try Shattered Space as Va’ruun felt like a unique and interesting faction but the trailer left it feeling like it was just more copy pasta with a new coat of paint and ghostly overlay. And reviews have pushed me away until it’s discounted at maybe 15 dollars before I try it. I’m just sad to see my favorite game company head down the route of most that are dying in the industry, tone deaf and unwilling to try and develop.
Appreciate everyone trying to bring attention to this situation and hope all who are having fun with the game keep having said fun. Till it changes I and many others will not though. Thanks JuiceHead!
Edit: Sorry for the essay response, still passionate but it’s slowly dying.
There is no controversy surrounding Starfield. It didn’t deliver, I suspect it has to has to do with the Creation Engine 2, which isn’t up to modern standards. Then they released a bunch of cosmetics in a single player game, and want to be paid per mission for content SOMEONE ELSE created. Then they released a full priced DLC with 5 hours of content.
The only possible controversy is the mental health of Bethesda staff thinking they’ve delivered an enjoyable experience for a reasonable price when clearly by every metric in gaming they did not.
I’m not someone who particularly enjoys starfield or trying to defend Emil, but I think when he said that people want to “live in the worlds they create,” he is probably basing that off of the fact that people still play Skyrim and Fallout 4 years later, even past the point of new content. So in a way, I don’t blame him for thinking that players want to “live” in these worlds rather than just play a short game. But that still doesn’t excuse the sorry state that Starfield is in when it comes to the gameplay experience.
YES, They have evolved and learned but to make matters worse they have realized that some of their most die-hard fans will buy it. This reminds me of a similar situation with cards in GTA OR Ubisoft cosmetics. Don’t get me wrong, I don’t see it as bad, they are not putting a gun to your head and forcing you to buy, but the prices are outrageous. Besides, I still remember Bethesda’s “save player 1” campaign fast forward a few years and they are selling microtransactions in single player MMOS and marketing them as RPGs.
Blinded by ego
12:49 I feel like saying fallout 4’s story is being far too generous, like I enjoy fallout 4 don’t get me wrong but alot of fallout 4’s stories are pretty simple/surface level (the worst stories in fallout 4 are pretty dumb)
Starfield is a major disapointment. *ES6…hold my beer*
I’m sick of people not mentioning the ACTUAL problems in Starfield: It’s a self-proclaimed “space game” that isn’t a space game at all.
-It doesn’t have actual planets, it just has rng squares.
-It doesn’t have actual spaceflight/spaceships, it just has a teleporting house that includes an entirely optional mini-game where you get
to teleport into “space” and shoot at things with the worst flying system I’ve ever seen in a “space” game.
-It doesn’t even have proper zero-G, it instead has a forced “up and down”, which defeats the purpose of being in space (you know, the place with no “up and down”).
-And the game is LOADED to the brim with, well… loading screens!
The proper fix would be to give us SEAMLESS travel EVERYWHERE (no loading screens), actual planets (NO SQUARES), fully manual 6DOF spaceflight, and proper zero-G.
Elder scrolls 6 will fail.
The AAA industry is crashing and burning, it’s beautiful to watch
having just completed almost everything except the main quest in starfield again + shattered space, I just do not get the concept that starfield is big. there are not that many quests and they are so incredibly quickly completed. 197 hours logged for 2 full playthroughs + shattered space seems incredible. I do not know where those hours went. no memorable quests.
All the people still bitching are kinda weird. Either play the game or don’t. Half my buddies love it and the other hate it but the ones that didn’t like it stopped bitching after a month. Some of y’all haters are obsessed with Starfield
ES6 will be DEI LGBT liberal trash
What are people expecting? They aren’t going to trash their own game.
I’d be happy if they added the ability to just fly between planets in a system WITHOUT FAST TRAVEL. I mean, I understand having to jump into a completely different system, but you can’t even fly from Mars to Deimos, the moon.
People loved Fallout New Vegas because of its rich story and every location had a little secret and even the NPC’s were interesting with back stories, this is what Starfield was missing. If you’re going to cut and paste a whole bunch of assets, then the story better be rich.
It really is a technical marvel! It’s so crazy what they managed to pull off with a 13 year old engine…
agree
Bethesda sounds like a toxic narcissist that continues to gaslight their fanbase. If you want them to change you have to be willing to not buy their stuff.
I’m not as angry with Emil anymore as I’ve come to believe that he is genuinely an idiot and quite slow.
Im enjoying starfield and the shattered space. Bethesda derangement syndrome is real get help people.
Starfield is BGS’s best-made game from a Technical perspective. They tweaked the Creation Engine a lot and made lots of stuff that the previous engine could not easily achieve. However, as a player, it MEANS NOTHING. The ONLY situation a player will care about those technical stuff is that your game is actually great. Gamers just want to play games, not to deal with engine and game development stuff. Bethesda needs to understand this one simple thing and stop telling others Starfield is their best.
Honestly don’t care one bit of what game devs think of themselves, their processes, the time and crunch commited, the opinions of their game, their opinions of gamers, etc etc.
If they make a good game with sufficient substance to story, gameplay, and performance then I’ll buy and enjoy.
Any attempt to criticise me as a gamer from these devs and qhat i should like or buy or care about is just a misleading attempt to side step their lack of the above mentioned.
The developers can have their own opinions, but mine is the only one that matters to me. I won’t spend money on something I don’t value.
The effort to maintain a conversation with the gaming community to build mutual understanding is a smart move by Bethesda. If you ever have a tense moment with someone that is created by their irrationality, it’s important that you continuously see them immediately and work on mutual understanding and consensus because when you are distant from them and you become just an idea in their mind, you then become much easier to hate, and the hate can snowball.
The gaming community has grown enormously large and the negativism or passive aggression that many people can be prone to for a variety of reasons are borne out into the community. And for that to be worked on and addressed is important work I think.
Bugthesda are such lazy trash. If it wasn’t for modders doing their job for them they’d be in the soup line.
Another channel Avv Gaming did a great video, How Bethesda Lost It’s Magic, on how Star field has 12 unique “dungeons” recycled by procedural gen compared to hundreds in previous games. The unique content is small, it just gets reshuffled endlessly making a “huge” boring game
If you don’t like the base game of Starfield, you’re not a fan with an opinion. It’s okay to be a fan of Skyrim and not of Starfield. I’m a fan of Mass Effect and not of Dragon Age.
I see a lot of “fans” that want to improve things while admitting hating the game. You’re not a fan, you’re a random player who doesn’t like a game. People expect the base game to change? Show me one time where a base game was changed? Cyberpunk is the same game from launch, just with better performance and quality of life improvements.
This is Starfield, for better or for worse. It’s time for “fans” who never liked it to move on.
Is this Tommy from TFL?
If Emil put as much effort into his quests and main storyies as he does into his explanations of why people should agree that this game is the greatest, maybe it would have been.🤨
Lies, lies, and more lies. Starfield is nothing like Elder Scrolls Skyrim or even remotely close to Fallout 3 and 4! Here is the thing I will say is semi true is starfield was a big game and beautiful on some parts. What the devs forget to see is that we the players are seeking something more like how come you guys didn’t make the base game remotely close to Shattered space you guys barely adapted to making a 4×4 vehicle that is awful to drive a year later. Why didn’t you bring that to begin with another thing why was the DLC so short and half the cost of the base game!!! How come starwars outlaws can fly in and out of the atmosphere and not Starfield! WE ARE LITERALLY TELLING YOU IT’S NOT ENOUGH.
With his current philosophy, Emil is entirely unfit for his position. He actively avoids critiques of his products, so he will never learn, and BGS games will continue to fail.
I’ve got zero sympathy for them. “Waahhh making games is hard!”
Lots of jobs are hard. Stop complaining and make a better game. Full stop.🛑
Starfield developers got a sexual weird thing for loading screens.
All I’m saying is go look and see what is out there. Look at what you sold us, and without being a corporate shill tell me you provided the same value. If you say yes i will understand that you are under ideological capture and truely thought that the expansion of the DEI department meant more than Content.
He’s just trying to save his meal ticket job.
The stuff they can not fix: all the loading screens (sometimes multiple) and seamless flight’s to planets
What they could fix to make the game positive: add A LOT more Randomly Generated POI’s that are sometimes larger in scale and some whole small towns. A LOT more types of objects (trees rocks plants creeks rivers…etc ) on planets to make them feel full. Local interactive Jobs to make the town/city you choose to live in feel more real. hosing maintenance cost option for immersion. hunger, thirst, sleep, bar for immersion.
Might can add(sometimes roads or something leading to the POI so it makes it feel like the civilization on that planet is connected, not separated from every POI)
Delusional…
They’re very proud of their game so it has to be good 😆
FO76 was definitively better in quality and story and what it gave as content. If you really want to make the comparison starfield is 76 but with NPCs. But at least 76 had an open world. This is just a bunch of giant maps connected
When do you think they’ll crack and put Starfield on PlayStation because of loss of profit?
(HALO Studios) I´m still wondering what will be the new name Microsoft is going to re-brand Bugthesda….
If Shattered Space was $10 I’d have no problem with it. I liked the story, I liked the side quests, I loved the environment, I loved that it was all in one area with few loading screens. But at 6-7 hours of total play for $30 without even interesting unique weapons or armor (aside from the peanuts) is such a joke. Much lower price and you’ve got a solid DLC on your hands. Bethesda is so out of touch with the monetary value of their content.
Sharted Face
In Skyrim or Fallout there was not even one single Dungeon just copy and paste. In Starfield there are only a handful dungeons and you can find them on every of these 1000 planets.
The Elder Scrolls: Skyrim [Dawnguard] had more compelling characters that are still remembered today, more impactful game mechanics, more iconic costumes, and a memorable vistas than Starfield does as a whole with Shattered Space. I am first and foremost a TES fan. If they cannot see that they haven’t even reached the bar of vanilla Skyrim, without any DLC or Mods, they are truly lost.
Bethesda hasn’t changed. The people playing their games have changed, while Bethesda has continued to do the exact-same thing they ever did under Todd Howard, which is take something pre-existing, strip it of some of its depth and complexity, and then release it in a dumbed-down package compared to what came before. That’s all that Todd’s Bethesda has ever done. Starfield is exactly what Skyrim was. I was saying the same things people now acknowledge about Bethesda games when Oblivion released, and when Skyrim released.
The difference is that millions of people were new to gaming in 2011, and they mistakenly thought that what they were experiencing was something new and innovative, and they created a mythology around Bethesda to hype their own experiences. But the lack of Bethesda quality, and the monotonous and superficial gameplay they offer is the exact same thing they offered in each of their previous games, with each next one dumbed-down a bit more than the previous, and all featuring the same abysmal writing from Emil Pagliarulo.
Todd has never been a good game designer, and Emil is one of the worst writers to have worked in any industry. They are both comprehensively incompetent and without a clue about what makes a game good and work. Millions of people who got into gaming as kids with the earlier console gens have just grown, while Bethesda, which has never grown under Todd’s leadership, has not.
Bethesda are really confused why people aren’t praising them for doing the same thing they’ve always done, because they were always praised for putting in the same effort and doing the same thing before. They received tons, and tons of false validation. So, this is on Bethesda fans almost as much as it is on Bethesda. They wanted to hype Bethesda’s ego up far beyond its worth, and they created this situation with their false praise. Skyrim was, at very best, only half as good as it was praised to be. And the same is true of Oblivion. I pointed this out in their day, but there was no room allowed for such comments – the fans (which was basically everybody) were intolerant and treated such comments as heresy and blasphemy.
I saw the undue praise was entrenching a false sense of confidence and competence in Bethesda over a decade ago, and I said it. Nobody would listen. Todd and Emil are actual idiots. They always were. It should’ve been plain as day to everybody else just as it was to me. But people valued their hype more than the truth and shut their minds off to what consequences it would have – and the consequences were entirely predictable.
If they hadn’t of released this empty waste of space we could’ve been playing and modding the game we really wanted by now. Bethesda is a lazy company reliant on its modding community to improve and finish its games
The best game is also the same thing they think about Elder Scrolls Castles, so ZERO slack!
I can name sarah snd whats his face with the cowboy hat…..sam, thats it, I’m not joking, at the time of writing this I have…wait vasco, now I’m tapped out. I don’t remember anyone else. The sad part is I was playing about a week ago. No I didn’t buy shattered space, waste of good money.
Echo echo echo echo 😂
Have people forgotten how to be grateful. It seems that Starfield is getting bombarded with hate because of tiny flaws like loading screens and empty planets. Bethesda said that they wanted realistic features in the Starfield deep dive. You see no life on any other planet besides Earth in real life. I get the infamous loading screens but the game is awesome! Starfield isn’t the best game but it’s an amazing space game with great stories and side quests. I really hope that Bethesda ignore the hate and keep updating the game like Fallout and TES. Starfield is severely underrated.
“make something totally different” …. huh ? its the most generic pile of low effort slop it takes everything that people hated about every other game they have made and just do nothing new, then claiming “richest space sim rpg anyone could imagen” …. no mans sky has a bigger space sim with no loading screens and more rpg elements, even at launch nomans was better than midfield -.-
the games play numbers are tanking like mad and I never see anything good about midfield -.-
the game was only difficult for them because they keep trying to use a dated engine that has the same bugs from 20 years ago THAT MODERS FIXED 20 years ago
the engine was dated when skyrim was released, it was barely on par with other engines when oblivion launched, if this is the best they can do man I have zero faith in the next elderscrolls game or ANY game bethesda make -.-
emials response is all just “we did amazing you guys just don’t understand our vision” like tone deaf doesn’t even begin to describe how bad those responses are o.o
Look I could look past the jank engine and bugs and the innumerable amount of Bethesda things if the game had any serious player agency or immersion Bethesda has just shifted to putting out the shallowest sandbox as possible and that’s emils whole shctick he believes that the vast majority of us are just smooth brain gamers who aren’t worth the effort of good writing and immersive worlds
I have no hope or interest in ES6.I love Skyrim, Oblivion and the Fallouts but Starfield is just boring.
Juicy when you finish to dress up, the money is on the table…
I think Bethesda hoped modders will fill those 1k planets with stuff.
More room to play right, right!?
Starfield is boring, outdated and shalow.
There is no way they can make this a big name in game industry.. it looks like it was made for 60+ people to play and enjoy.. you can’t even be a vilan bc ”important” NPCS doesn’t die and all your followers are 50+ years old saints.
MEGA W take
My personal take on Emil’s statements isn’t quite as kind as yours, but I think we agree on far more than not. Bethesda’s been on the wrong track for a long time. Microsoft’s involvement only makes things worse. They can’t or won’t see it, and that’s fine. It’s their mistake to make, if that’s what they choose… and I get to choose whether or not to participate with them any further than I already have, and where I spend my money. As things stand, I’m through with them. If they ever make a return to form, I’ll reassess, but I don’t see any indicators that’s likely anytime soon.
It’s easier to manipulate those who rely on their services.
A technical marvel for the creation engine: yes. From a gaming perspective: *laughs in elite dangerous and no man’s sky*
I feel like people don’t give them enough credit. The ship building is one of the most impressive thing they’ve ever done. It just feels like they skimped on some of the things fans really loved to deliver us some things we didn’t really need.
The less public speeches Emil does, the better the fans think of ES6.
He is a total communication disaster.
I believe there will be 1000 factions in ES6 all that you become leader of after 1 radient quest, and there will be zero handcrafted quests in the game.
Fair point at the end there, there is literally nothing Bethsoft can do to make me like Starfield. They SHOULD focus on the players who are already happy to give their time and attention to it.
Sadly they’re not going to interest me in ES6 either if Todd and Emil are still in charge. Massive egos, bad decisions, hilarious cope.
Honestly, Shattered Space is the best thing in Starfield. It’s what it should have been from the start. I really don’t understand all the hate for it, unless people just don’t like Starfield. I honestly don’t think Bethesda could have done anything that wouldn’t be review bombed by haters.
#FireEmil
Starfield could certainly use more depth. It’s very wide, but it’s very shallow. A lot of the content is very generic. You made a lot of good points here.
Starfield faced big challenges during its creation. Juicehead touched on one, its a brand new universe, no longer could the developers just fanfiction off of an existing setting. BGS needed to make a new interesting sci-fi setting that would draw players in, for example Mass Effect. That setting could then support stories, themes, and gameloops that were interesting, new, emotional, fun, etc…That didn’t happen in my opinion. I find Starfield’s setting to be bland and filled with tropes that don’t connect. With a semi-realistic setting, history is important. Starfield’s timeline is sparse and contradicts itself. I have a hard time being immersed in this universe when gameplay wise Starfield offered what I had been wanting in a space game for a long time, combined ground and spaceship gameplay, companions and crew, customizable character, RPG systems, and modding.
Having played the game “The Outer Worlds” I can’t help but get the feeling that Starfield had many times the budget but delivered significantly less immersive experience. The outer worlds gave me that sort of fallout vibe, but in space, and that’s what I was hoping for from Starfield.
I just dont understand Bethesda fans supporting a company that makes mid games. Going down hill from here.
Emil and Todd self sucking is sad to see, they need to go.
the problem with Starfild overall is that it’s boring.
Starfield is STILL a loading screen simulator. Bugthesda needs to learn from No Man’s Sky on how it’s done.
New red flag term:
“10 year plan”
I’d like to see Bethesda games lean into deeper stories and simulations for their NPCs, Economy, Industry, Cities, Real Estate, etc… I think it would go a long way to immersing the player into the worlds they create. Many of the best and most ambitious mods were all derived from this idea. I think we’ve somehow gone the complete opposite direction. There’s the settlement system, but it feels tacked onto the side of the handcrafted content like a tumor rather than built in. All it does is give the player a creative time/resource sink. I more like the idea of taking a leadership role of the existing handcrafted cities and improving them in a guided way to solve problems. Games that executed this well are New Vegas, Fallout 3 and Fable 1-3. I feel like the settlement system has the opportunity to radically increase the possibilities these games hinted at.
Bethesda is on a crash course of becoming another Bioware. What was once a great company is turning to garbage now. Emil needs to go and probably Todd
Starfield has an interesting setting, were you can’t experience any of the actual interesting events. The main quest would have worked as a side quest as a faction quest, but it doesn’t work as a stand alone story to drive a game.
With fallout being my favorite apocalyptic universe and the grimdark of 40k is my favorite sci-fi universe I thought starfield was gonna be the literal modders playground warhammer, starwars, helldiver overhaul I was expecting all of that. Been let down and continue to be let down by my favorite company…the game was dead the very second they expected modders to make the game great over making a solid game from the beginning.
I think that mission where you are an observer to Shrödinger’s box has the same impact as nuking the Megaton. You get to decide if a group of people continue existing or not. That one gave me old sci-fi episode vibes.
Whenever they say “gamers have high expectations” is the lazy way to say: like it or don’t buy it. Games used to come out as complete games, not “we will fix it later.” Having loading screens when everything is on a SSD these days is not really needed; the game even says you need one to play it. The world is a mess where everyone bickers over nothing. When I first played, it didn’t hit me till the Crimson Fleet, where you are having to argue with someone over and over and over again until the leader tells you to stop. Another issue is that the universe is empty, like F76. The game is 100s of years in the future, and there are at least 8 billion people on Earth, IRL and in the game’s story. In the game time we are in, the universe has only maybe 1000 people in the game. Based on that, having 4 major cities that have less than 100 people in them is ridiculous. A lot of the stories were fun, but the game is rated M and plays like a teenager who learned their first curse word. Crimson Fleet are not the pirates the universe says they are. I am still playing the game with mods to flush out the game more, but having modders fix this much of a Bethesda game and charging the player to do so is not cool and should not be accepted.
What is controversial about bad content? Nobody is arguing that this is good content.
Starfield is boring asf and not very good. Not to mention that whole “Loading Screens: The Game”
The story and dialogue is just so bad.
Emil is no writer. He is a game *journalist* who wormed his way into the position he is right now by writing good reviews for Bethesda. Look at his record. He doesn’t even have a well received fanfic to his name.
You know what else took 8 years? Fallout 4, the game that made people realize bethesda doesn’t care about lore, history, fans or established cannon
Very good take on this debacle. Starfield falls short in every way in terms of content, compared to the Fallout series or the Elder Scrolls series. Nothing goes deeper then a puddle, not the quests, not the npc interactions, not the traits and not the worldbuilding. Calling a game, with 3/4 of content being generated and the rest halfheartedly handcrafted, “irresponsibly large” is truly irresponsible and an insult to the fanbase.
Bethesda is dead and they’re going to kill ES6 amd FO5
Remember that Starfield isn’t Elder Scrolls, I’m a fan of both but everyone hating needs to understand that Starfield was a NEW IP so I expected this criticism, but Elder Scrolls has lore and several games, books, comics and Lore keepers Bethesda wont screw it up like a lot of people think, between Morrowind, Oblivion and Skyrim alone they have the lore they just to write good anyone questioning their writing go replay Oblivion and if still mad hug a pillow!
what emil doesn’t understand is you can have a huge game but if the world and characters suck nobody is gonna wanna stay
Technical Marvel? How so? What do they want, a participation Ribbon?
“It’s the best game we have ever done”. Who cares? Players just compare it to the best games of the genre and they don’t feel satisfied. They can’t answer in that way..They are really disconnected to their public and it is irreversible
“the biggest, richest space simulation RPG anyone could imagine” yeah that sure isn’t Starfield… It’s not even close and the fact they think it is just shows how arrogant and disconnected from reality Bethesda is
Bethesda has lost their way, I will not be preordering any of their games for the foreseeable future and based on the response I’ll decide whether to buy. They have lost their way, need new leadership who can accept when they fell short and work to fix that relationship not double down on it. Their hubris will be their downfall..
This is my same reaction now to EA and Activision/Blizzard, Ubisoft, etc. AAA game studios are focused on the wrong stuff and there’s more value with Indie Devs these days.
Starfield is soulless and has no character. I don’t enjoy being in the Starfield universe. Part of what Bethesda refuses to acknowledge is that what made Elder Scrolls and Fallout compelling is not an over abundance of things to do, but that doing the things feels worthwhile. I suppose horse armor was the beginning of the slide and the beginning of misunderstanding what their own games had to offer more than just acquisition.
This company is turning themselves into a meme
Starfield crashed twice while watching this video. I really wish I was kidding. I have to keep going through all the title screens and load screens, past the data synch bug, and then the load screens just to try and fast travel and crash again.
Edit: Third time. I’m done.
Player-centred focus has admittedly been a focus of Bethesda’s design philosophy for a while though. All the Elder Scrolls games from at least Morrowind on centered the player as the big hero to save the world. Fallout didn’t do this because the focus was different.
With Starfield, they’ve just transplanted the Elder Scrolls mentality into the narrative.
The copium
I’m in agreement with you on most of this. I like Starfield and I think that it has a lot of unfulfilled promise to it at the moment. I can agree that technically it is pretty awesome, but the depth that I and others wanted just isn’t there where it needs to be. Also too much reliance on the whole on procedural generation without enough premade items for the procedural to use so that things end up feeling repetitive and samey with outposts and the like. I can suspend the belief a bit by outposts will be similar as the materials are going to be fairly standardized, but there needs to be more variations too. I was just really hoping for more with Shattered Space, it looks cool, there’s some neat stuff, but it was still very shallow.
I love how people just cant be happy we got a new game people complained that it didnt have the bugs Bethesda games had shattered space has those glitches starfield needs alittle TLC for sure but cmon cut them some slack i bet some stupid stockholders made it hard to make the games for all the game devs hate them they are the ones killing games
“Takes time to address things.” How freakin long? You “worked” on the thing for EIGHT YEARS, going on NINE now, just HOW LONG? Emmiiilllllll?
Im just sick of the greed and the horse armor type of craft. Its like they turned into Mr. Haney. Try that ref 😂
I’ve been playing Cyberpunk 2077 and Starfield, 200+ hours on both games. I really love expansion DLC’s for single player games, but Shattered Space felt short and uninspired, made forget this was supposed to be a content-filled unforgettable experience.
Phantom Liberty on the other hand, made me remember why I love video games and the positive impact of great writing and storytelling.
unless you play games ,you know nothing about gaming , silly Emil
“Starfield will continue to get updates.” You …poor souls.
Has anyone else noticed that the mountains range around the main city is square.
I agree but i think they know, they are just ignoring it because they are making money and dont care.
I liked SF but i could feel that something was just missing.
You and others have helped me quantify what was bothering me.
I think procedural generation is a poor fit for a game like Bethesda usually makes. It just makes samey.
I used to say “I love Bethesda games”. Now, i say ” I used to love Bethesda games”.
Well back to Skyrim.
As a Bethesda fan I do want the company and individual franchises/IPs to succeed but at the end of the day this view and approach frightens me.calling starfield a best seller space game is a slap in the face to space engineers and no man’s sky. Yes a space game by Bethesda would be an ambitious undertaking and amazing project but in execution it’s lacking, stale, mediocre. Being a company under micro soft paid mods/dlc is expected and my only advice for that is vote with your wallet in mind. The lack of income and player input would probably turn the heads of the higher ups but only if a large sizable portion of the community across platforms/franchises take part. The reason why Beth games survive for so long is due to the modding community. Take the reins off and let the people go nutty. Same with Mojang ie bedrock/java editions. Keeps retention and engagement alive
Just play no mans sky
Starfield is the worst game bethesda has ever made. Yes that even includes fallout 76.
Emil can’t write
I seriously hope Emil gets fired and todd replaces him with someone else. I can’t take his arrogance anymore. I don’t believe a word he’s saying, I’m not going to give him any slack. Dude needs to f*cking go. I know I shouldn’t say sh*t like this but He’s such a sh*thead
Good, ignore fan feedback, please. We don’t need every game in the industry to feel the same, Bethesda games are good because they’re unique in the industry and nothing else are like them. The true sad thing would be if Bethesda was forced to make another generic open world RPG like everyone else does.
This game was giant open and empty it feels more like scaffolding for a game not a finished game. Like it’s meant to have planets filled by mods and Bethesda couldn’t be bothered
Maybe Stanfield’s issue is it is the first single player title that they made for a specific console over PC.
Is it weird that I want Microsoft to dismantle Bethesda and piecemeal out their games to different studios?
Starfield could’ve been such a great game if only it wasn’t such a casual mess. None of the mechanics makes sense or have any real use. Everything in this game feels pointless.
Starfield is a masterpiece. If it had been launched as a PlayStation exclusive the reviews would not have been so harsh.
Bethesda is a a sinking ship.
“Best game we ever made”…with the longest, most annoying LOADING SCREENS there EVER was. We’re #1, We’re #1.
get rid of emil bring back kirkbride
Skyrim killed Bethesda. Not because it was bad. I love Skyrim. But it clearly allowed them to just stop thinking and stop innovating.
So the “We’re not patting ourselves on the back “,statement feels hollow namely because even now , if you pick up starfield and morrorwind and play the start to finish you can see some of the same issues , errors and glitches due to engine problems they’ve had since then …and that each and every unofficial patch fixes , there glitches in fallout 4 that were discovered month 1 that even with the new update aren’t fixed and the unofficial patch now has to be updated to fix. So I hear what Emil is saying but I don’t believe him based on my own experiences with Bethesda titles
All the time wasted on this instead of the next ES6 title….
SMH…
This is why Bethesda is doomed, they are beyond arrogant and refuse to face reality
You have to be insane to model your business and products around shareholders and upper-management who do not play games and do not resonate with the audience they claim to cater to AND expect your company to be successful. The walls are crumbling around the “giants” so they will learn one way or another.
Wide as an ocean, deep as a puddle.
All that is being revealed is that they have a fundamental misunderstanding of why people liked their games. They instead believe they can do no wrong and that their s**t doesn’t stink.
Emile is so cringy it’s actually insane. Legitimately cringy with his responses
Have they never played or heard of Star Citizen?smh now that’s an ACTUAL technical marvel.
What’s there is pretty good but it’s missing a lot that I was expecting from the dlc. No new ship parts?? No new romantic choices??
Ok, let’s not expect too much for TES 6.
Arrogance and little acceptance that something is wrong is not a good sign for the future of TES 6.
Let them ask the creators of NMS for advice on how to treat their customers.
Oh. Oh Bethesda is definitely associated with starfield. Just not in the way anyone hoped for. It’s not like most of the people criticizing Bethesda wanted to hate starfield. But it disappointed fans were loud about it Bethesda said they heard it and were gonna fix it. They didn’t and then they went after the fans. And by them I mean mostly Emil but if you work for a company you represent the company not some of the time but all of the time regardless of how you view that it’s true. If you like starfield I’m happy for you. But even people that enjoy it have to see where the people who did not are coming from. I don’t like pinning blame on one person I think it’s mean and uncalled for but if someone at Bethesda doesn’t tell Emil to shut up then he’s gonna keep being the face of fans’ disappointment and anger.
Yup you made a lot of good points. The fact essential NPCs are everywhere but none seem special is disturbing. Bethesda is not listening in that it seems they are making a game with features no one wants. Or more properly elements that people want but not the way they made them?
I want to love starfield I really do. But you’re punished for playing. Between all the loading screens and performance issues, it’s just not worth it.
All of starfield felt like nothing you did changed anything.
the response : “you plebs are far too uneducated to remotly be able to enjoy the absolute master pieces we put out and you’re having fun wrong”
“I declare MY product a technical Marvel.”
What is new? Not new to _you_ but new?
“Starfield has Personality.”
As much as mud.
If Bethesda took Freelancer as an inspiration, which was a Microsoft Studios title, if I remember correctly, Starfield would be much more successful I think.
Bethesda is the worst, this Emil guy is living proof.
Yes, a giant, procedurally generated game. With zero randomness. A technical marvel…
Let’s just forget that starfield ever existed and move on. The focus must be on ES 6 and fo5
I’m just waiting for that hopefully existing Oblivion Remaster at this point. I’m not buying Bethesda games at pre-order unless if it’s an actual content packed bethesda game and not a alpha version sandbox
Also Don’t forget about the lever action from the “best Bethesda dlc” that is still broken to this day
The Steam reviews weren’t “Overwhelmingly Negative.” They were “Mostly Negative.” You know, like Earth…”Mostly Harmless.”
I tend to agree with the point that the reason people were upset with the ending of Fallout 3 wasn’t that it ended, but they kill you off with radiation, when you can have radiation immune companions that could have saved you from dying, but straight up refuse.
They still haven’t fixed loading saved files and want to call the players out. Sit tf down bro
3:20 It might be the best that Emil can do since he didn’t have any supporting lore to lean on. Let’s not forget that he is the same person that said that he could write a masterpiece of a story and players would just make paper airplanes from it.
These aren’t the words of someone who finds story important. He talks about how a settlement feature is a great thing. Well, when you don’t provide anything to do other than build or play a story that the head honcho himself says that players would ignore, that isn’t really a contest.
we should have all just realized after 76 that Bethesda is Bethesda…
to say that no other studio knows dlc 4 months after the Shadow of the Erdtree and a year after Phantom Liberty which are dlc that can be compared to full games is a whole new level of arrogance i didnt know possible
The cope is massive bro the dlc is just bad and also cost about 30 dollars.
What gamers are blowing things out of proportion that can’t be…but yea some of the stuff he said is bs but on the flip side some people are still riding the hate train and take every statement and twist it into something bad.
Some people liked ‘2 girls, 1 cup’.
Just sayin.
Lazy programing I think you might have said it the game engine isn’t made for that it’s made for loading small cells
Off topic right before 1:56 if you are wondering for some odd reason yes that dragon is a modded texture
I don’t know why he’d mention horse armor. It is one of the most reviled subjects in all of gaming, especially as some – including myself – feel it contributed/initiated the trend of paid dlc. Before that, games were complete or mostly complete and the most you’d have to pay for post launch were expansions or sequels.
Bethesda- Has a defined way of making games that has been the key to their success.
Also bethesda- Lets completely depart from the roadmap we established as the key to our success.
just because a slew of people (and bots) review bombed the game doesn’t make them “fans”, the quote “majority” or right. there are many of us who truly enjoy Starfield and see it as Bethesda’s finest work. Bethesda doesn’t need to pander to the infantile haters, nor should they. furthermore, all the morons calling for Emil or Todd to go, Bethesda switching to Unreal etc. are completely braindead. they are all on the hater’s bandwagon and are desperately seeking validation of their worthless opinions.
“Biggest, richest, space simulation anyone has ever done” absolutely and completely delusional masturbatory nonsense. Can we start a fan petition to microsoft to fire Emil?
Just said this same thing to Matty lol, interesting that we say similar things but pick our words so differently. I actually don’t fully agree with what you said at 12:45. I do think I enjoy Fallout 4 more than Starfield partially bc there are more total stories, and I do very much hope that ES6 sticks to that Skyrim/Fallout style of doing things. But I do agree that the Fallout 4 characters/stories being better is also part of it.
A typical arrogant response as expected from bethesda. The ego of this douchebag is ridiculous.
It just seems emotionally manipulative how these PR situations have been with BGS. Reframing and redirection of criticisms towards people, not pleasing everyone, or fans being “irrational ” in some other way when that distracts from the real issues ppl have with the game design in recent years. It’s great that he at least responded and took the time to do so and all he says sounds “correct” and “nice”, but we have hear that same spiel over and over from BGS “listening to fans” yet it has been years of them not doing so in action. Just the same PR procedure of reaching out emotionally to fans, while not even addressing any specific feedback being listened to, and evidently double-downing on bad design choices that ignore their target audience.
they really expected to make skyrim mixed with fallout4 in space with a buch of load screens would make people happy, they are stuck in the past
The ridiculous thing is the fact that at least 90% of players all together would rate Shattered Space as a 3.5 out of 5 at best (and that’s still pushing it a bit) but they seriously have to listen to their fans and they are pretty much hesitating to do so when they aren’t even realizing that they are slowly destroying their fan base by not doing so and at the rate they are going they won’t have any fans left to buy Elder Scrolls 6 and they won’t have any trust left with the gaming community all together. They also stated prices were going to go down in Creations but that hasn’t happened at all not to mention they still haven’t even made an attempt to fix any issues they do have from Creation bugs that prevent the modders to even make their mods achievement friendly when it was supposed to from the very start to the huge lag in Shattered Space causing the game to crash over and over again. As someone who has bought their games since the very first game to currently I even felt extremely let down by Shattered Space, they hyped it up as a horror theme (even keeping expectations very low) and there was no horror at all maybe by PG rating horror standards at best which was misleading. This is all just my opinion though.
I think starfield overall is just average, i don’t hate it but it’s not great. but i do like the dlc. It gives me some quests tht i enjoy. I hope the direction they continue will be like this way instead of flying into empty planets
The gulf between Morrowind and Oblivion just in terms of lore and story is giant and it’s all because of this guy. He didn’t even consider the MAIN PLOT DEVICE (the dragonfires) being worth explaining or elaborating on in any way. Seriously, look it up. They do this ritual that puts the realm in danger of being invaded by demons “just because”.
And to think the writing only gets worse from there with every subsequent game. Only Bethesda would keep this guy employed.
outposts are pretty useless. Wish they were more like fallout settlements.
If you’re not completing your game, and supplementing it with DLC then I guess I’ll just have to complete the game myself by sailing the high seas. That’s how I got the horse armor back in the day.
Between what’s been said by Emil, Todd, and ex-developers in interviews, it’s apparent BGS has a project management problem, which I suspect is also due to intervention from Microsoft trying to prevent a Fallout 76/CP2077 fiasco. They’re micromanaging their team, not communicating goals clearly, and bungling coordination between managers and their departments. This is before even getting to the awful writing and poor design philosophy.
Todd Howard is really starting to act like King Louis XVI.
Bethesda sold us a single ship part for 10 dollars and their own employee release a full modded ship set for half as much. Bethesda should be cheaper as that get 100% where as the modders only gets a certain percentage.
Part of the way they are trying to get their games to last longer is to just sell features of older games over a long time. The only Starfield that will be worth playing is the starfield of 5 years in the future.
I’ve had game pass for years and still felt ripped off when I downloaded starfield by accident .
Emil is dragging down the whole company and yet Todd doesn’t want to acknowledge it because they’re close friends since the older Elder Scrolls games
Hope Emil gets fired, sayonara jackass
The starfield community is not growing, that’s not even a factual statement from Emil
👍
Dude, 3-5$ for some individual skins, that’s not DLC, that’s microtransactions.
Emil is a not that good and a shallow story writer and that is clear from the last few games he was working on. He needs to be replaced by better writers with more interesting ideas. I myself do like Starfield but its just a 7/10 game and currently not something I have urge to play over and over like a skyrim or fallout. It feels too empty, they would have been better confining it to 100 worlds with more concentrated content than 1000. Alternatively at least put a system in the game allowing you to colonize worlds, get settlers etc.
This game really wants to be good on paper but it’s just boring as a game as a whole 🥴
Starfield needs too much work to revive, needs waaaay more variation in the procesural generation. Like 4-5x as much. Needs dismemberment, temperature changed based on time of day, celestial bodies bloking the sun. Etc. Etc. let alone fleshing out the factions, characters and main planets.
I have no faith in elder scrolls 6, man is that response a bummer, shattered space was somehow worse than I was expecting, and I didn’t have super high expectations, but I had a little hope.
Screw elder scrolls VI I want more starfield. All the starfield blowback is just from elder scrolls babies throwing tantrums because they can’t wait. gTfO
Aint NO WAY im paying for paid mods…unless its a creator on Nexus…wouldnt give bethesda money nowadays
So long as Emil is being a Baghdad Bob, I have no hope for any future games.
The thing this guy (the dev, NOT Juicehead) doesn’t seem to get is that we WANT Bethesda to be known for Fallout and the Elder Scrolls. They’re great games, so having to wait as long as we have is ridiculous, and is beyond annoying at this point. Him saying now we are known for Starfield too is not a positive, it’s negative. But they don’t seem to get that. Almost all of us Elder Scrolls and Fallout fans didn’t want, or ask for an MMO and a new franchise. We wanted more of what we actually love.
They should fix fallout 4
I second what youre saying. Also, lets remember how long it took to fix Cyberpunk. 3 or 4 years? Exact same pattern here. Fix the game, add stuff/ rebalance, becomes GOTY, make a monster second game (TBD but come on).
As someone whose favorite game from Bethesda history is Morrowind: Guys, quit ignoring your diehard fans’ criticisms and if it’s all too much, just keep making skyrim. Like, duct tape some base building mechanics in there, but literally just put the same effort you put into Skyrim and your games will be at least passable. A finite world with handcrafted content that isn’t copy pasted across a thousand planets, maybe some radiant quests (but please put more effort into radiant content) but just keep making Skyrim-type games with Skyrim-level effort and quit with the paid mods.
Why do these companies keep on changing the recipe. You are a bakery don`t try and make watches!
Yea starfield has been dead since last year, no going back
LET “CLAP” EMIL “CLAP” COOK “CLAP”
I think Starfield would have been better received if Bethesda wasn’t taking so long putting out the next Elder Scrolls and Fallout games – going back 4-5 years the Starfield controversy was already starting to brew where people were just outright saying they would rather Bethesda was working on ES6 or FO5 than doing on some new game.
And I’m not saying thats its only problem: I actually like Starfield and think its a good game… but I don’t see myself logging thousands and thousands of hours in to it over the upcoming years and even on my first playthrough I found the game pretty repetitive:
– enemies are pretty much limited to people in space suits with guns or clubs, robots, turrets or fauna
– most facilities you come across just look and feel like every other facility
– unless you are surveying a planet to 100% and missing some resource there is no reason to explore any caves you find
– the “settlement system” is nowhere near as diverse and different than the one in Fallout 4
I have enjoyed starfeild there’s some things that need some work but overall I have fun playing
oh yay another juice head vid of him sucking off Todd so he can keep his invites to bethesda BS
If i spend 2 days cooking a meal that ends up burnt and salty, the wasted work doesn’t make it a good meal.
its damned if they do damned if they dont; bethesda wanted to make a new ip that wasnt just ripping off fallout or elder scrolls that can stand on its own. so its either they continue making the exact same game they have been making for 20+ years and risk people being pissed off (lets not forget fsllout 3 onward bethesda games all had their issues) or they make something new, which most of their audience wont like as its too different. and for people comparing it to CP2077, remember that that game only became actually decent at the end of last year, years after release lol.
Even the base game was messed up. They put in things like base building and home building that they could have left out completely. I also question the need to “roam” the planet surface really. Make the random locations into fixed locations that need missions, books, terminals, rumors… to unlock the locations (putting magazines in random locations and letting you get more than one SUCKS for collecting). They they would not need scrap and mining either and just use money. Do some more ship parts, make better missions for most of the NPC and make some of them romanceable, and fix the missions for the artifacts and temple runs so they are not so boring and repetitive… especially after the Starborn attack the Lodge. Add some more ship modules and decorations… including some double decker rooms. Make it so once you find a shipyard you can get the new parts from any ship builder.
I did not want to touch the DLC. It does not surprise me the DLC was short. Look at the detail levels of the base game. Fallout 4 had little scenes and hidden things EVERYWJERE and Easter Eggs all over the place. The game was not bad, but it was not to the level of Fallout 4… not even close. They spent time on the wrong things. While the ship building is not bad, the space combat is mediocre at best and they struggled to get to that level. They also spent a lot of time with procedurally generated planets to roam, but no vehicles and really there is no need to do either.
I am scared to see what they do with Fallout 5 and Elders Scrolls VI… and I do not want to see Obsidian do either also as Fallout NV, while having a lot of nostalgia for many games, lacks the details of Fallout 4 and I have not been impressed with their games since. I think the problems start at the top… with Todd Howard. I think he has an OK vision for what he wants the games to be, but he can no longer keep the developers focused on all the details. He needs some help. The company is over 4x what it was when they released Fallout 4 and they now produce less and worse stuff than before.
Ok, Bethesda is delusional, Egon…what do you have left?
He’s not spouting BS to the fans.
He’s trying to put one over the shareholders.
13:31 the only quest that stands out is Groundpounder and I can’t remember the names of the commanding officers for the life of me
The Bethesda dude who’s responding on steam has a jewish name. These people are the masters of gashlight. It all makes sense now.
Somebody tell Bethesda about Paradox and their DLC model if they’re actually under the impression they’re the most DLC conscious company in the industry
Dude, you give Bethesda wayyyyyyyy to much credit here
Starfield is a remarkable decline in Bethesda’s single player RPG experience. Given that the last single player experience was Fallout 4 and it was received so poorly due to the dialogue system and slimmed down RPG elements I was really hoping for Starfield to be an improvement on the mistakes they made there. It feels like Bethesda has just… Lost touch with gamers and what we want from them at this point, which isn’t too bad with games like No Man’s Sky and Cyberpunk being so good now we have choices and aren’t stuck just tolerating failure.
Bethesda is taking the same route as Ubisoft: They have the wrong assumption that there are no comparable products from other competitors in the market so fans will continue buying whatever they make regardless of quality. That’s why they are under the delusion that they can sell any kind of garbage, at any inflated price, for as long as they can. They released Fallout 76 and the product tanked, but instead of being punished they were awarded with Microsoft’s 7.5 billion dollar acquisition. This encouraged them to double down on that delusion & release Starfield & this terrible expansion.
Shattered Space deserves the hate, Bethesda is so out of touch and this is coming from a Fallout and Skyrim fan with hundreds of hours in both
“Just know we’ve also been hearing from plenty of people who love it” ok mate that’s all well but that certainly isn’t reflected in the overall reviews of the DLC, it’s horrible that they go from making great DLCs for Fallout and Skyrim to then this slop.
Bethesda can say whatever they want but actions and production is all that matters…I fear for ES6…
They need to get rid of Emil. Dude has been the main writer of every single story that is universally hated by Bethesda fans.
Calling starfield part of the “big three” reminded me of that “my new character” trend on tik tok where they just shove this png of a guy whos like really chill into every tv show u can imagine
“We’ve like heard your criticisms… But we’re like actual game designers… So we like know more than you” – Emil Paganini, probably
I want Starfield to be one of the “big three” but it doesn’t _just_ need an overhaul to the game systems, the questing and foundational lore of Starfield make me want to end the multiverse.
(Seriously, some dude who had an artifact vision decides to kill the earth to push humanity to the stars… even though they found the artifact ON MARS!!! The stupid Mantis killed her son because she forgot to put him in the defense systems, you cant convince the _collector_ to give/sell you something that is part of a _collection_ just run and gun through his ship like any old dungeon and don’t even get me started on the creative wasteland that is Paradiso)
copium.
You gotta get use to not owning your own game……well you better get used too not have a job when the company tanks
This behavior concerns me.
I love the atmosphere of Starfield, I found the combat mostly satisfying, and the exploration, while can get tiresome, to be interesting as you wander through pretty sights and come across intriguing landmarks or dangerous fights (much like my experience in Fallout 4).
But I am definitely aware of its problems and would LOVE if they made more of the improvements fans have been requesting (that the engine could handle).
But at the rate these updates are coming, the way they are generally executed, and their response to the criticisms, I can’t tell if they just don’t have the time and resources to spare for these updates, or if they can but aren’t gonna try. This isn’t been well communicated, and these quotes don’t make me faithful in what they plan for the base game and future updates/DLC.
Emil Plagiarulo should not be on The Elder Scroll’s VI
Starfied fan base is strange, I don’t understand the tribalism behind it. I think maybe if it was the only game you have ever played, I could see why you would defend it so much. It’s not the worst game ever but I think just some of us that have played previous BGS titles expected a bit more. This was definitely the final straw for me and BGS games. I would have to wait and see if es6 will be good after the novelty wears out.
I feel like if this keeps up, Bethesda will go the way of Ubisoft rn.
You know how to fix this if you actually get the issue? Roadmap, really simple “here’s what we got. there are our plans. see everyone?”.
This comes across as “Lol we got all your money for the 100$ complete edition already. And all you idiots will buy the 100$ complete edition of TES6 anyway. And you’ll all buy our microtransaction cutting up of all your favorite Elder Scrolls questlines because everyone loves them. So, we can do whatever we want, we don’t care what you say.”
reminder emil said story doesn’t matter. This guy is the head writer, wrap your brain around that.
Starfield is not for bathesda fans. It’s for youngsters who’s age is same as ours when we first played Skyrim and FO3. It’s not that complicated.
Emil being out of touch with the reality of a Bethesda game isn’t new and isn’t going to change. Still looking forward for him to stop writing for their games.
When a studio charges money for stupid DLC’s like clothes and armor, you know they are only after your $$$. Hey, CDPR totally revamped CP 2077 and did not charge a penny for it. I played Starfield for about 40 hours when it came out and got bored really fast. I’m on my 6th CP playthrough. Starfield is a boring game and it’s really sad because there is so much potential but Bethesda are lazy and only want you hard earned money with minimal effort on their part. Very sad ….
Emil needs to stop tweeting
The reason that you don’t connect with the characters is because they are VERY poorly written… Something I hope people will keep in mind going forward with new titles.
Considering they seemingly refuse to acknowledge the writing and direction issues, I’d bet we will see the same issues carried into the next game.
You just did a video on “15 Secret Choices” for Fallout 4. I’d like to see you do that for Starfield. I’m not sure you can, because my problem with Starfield is 1.- Very shallow world building; 2 – Nothing seems to link factions together; 3 – The main game still has many borked up missions that were never fixed’ 4 – The new DLC broke my game and Steam says I need to delete my game and reload. So, my solution – Play Fallout 4 over again.
Motherfuck the big three, it’s just big Fallout NV 😛
Man at this point just delay es6 another 10 years or give it to another studio if they are so sure millions of people are wrong about how they feel about starfield.(I quite like starfield as well)
We have space travel but can’t swim underwater…
I gotta defend Emil on a couple points here.
1. He never said it is the best game, he said in a lot of ways it is the best game, and that is true. There are aspects to Starfield that outdo their incarnations in previous games, such as sound design.
2. He acknowledges in the interview that Shattered Space doesn’t change what Starfield is, so they are aware that it just adds more story.
3. Surface Maps, Ground Vehicles, Ship interior customization, and non-lethal bounties were all criticisms and suggestions at launch, and they got implemented within 1 year.
I don’t believe a 2.0 version is coming, but I think if we take a step back from the disappointing Shattered Space release, they have done a whole lot to address concerns. Vehicles were a meme before they announced it. Nobody believed they could do it. They said they would add city maps, but they didn’t just add city maps, they overhauled the surface map into something really cool that dynamically changes based on what you place in your outposts and what ships are landed.
There is no doubt in my mind that “Starborn” is going to address NG+/Powers, while also adding a new storyline and cool places, and before that we will have another year of additions. If they keep the momentum, Starfield is going to be crazy in a few years.
Emil should play to his strengths, and work on Concord.
I’m seeing blinder on a lot of the mega fans as well. If you like the game, that’s fine, I’ve had coworkers who are on much more of the casual side tell me they found the game fun. I’m not doubting that people are out there who like the game. However, I’m seeing a bunch of people express shock and disbelief at the negative reviews, claimer that they don’t see how it’s possible and they must just be hate trains and “bitter Playstation fanboys”. If you try to point out the problems with the game, they just plug their ears and just either ignore you or go on about how their still having having so you must not know what your talking about.
As long as things stay this way, THIS is the grade of games BGS is going to release. If you like them, cool, but public opinions about the games are just going to get worse and worse.
Starfield is a load screen pile of 💩💩
i just don’t feel like i can connect with Starfield’s world. i get that it’s space, there isn’t much out there, but it just feels like the game gives me nothing to latch onto, only very few times do i get to stumble upon something (something handmade), like the abandon space stations are really awesome, like you wonder what happened, but there is not much content like that in Starfield.
the 10th time i find a research facility that looks exactly like the 9 others, i don’t say “hmm, i wonder what happened here”, it feels like such a disconnect when i see the same generated structures, with little to no lore or thought put into them.
in Skyrim, i know every single thing is there for a reason, so i feel like i’m in a thought-out world.
I just hope they fix the buggs and lag for one when they speak takes like 5 seconds before for words come out and they rea speak again I enjoy playing wish they also added m class ships for your character besides modding but it really fun enjoy the ending the new armors and weapons all must serve
When you really think about it, no one remembers the writing in most of their games. Just specific characters and the atmosphere. Emil is a fraud and needs to be blacklisted from the industry
I actually like Starfield and Emil’s take is terrible. To pretend like starfield is on the same level of ANY of the Fallouts or Skyrims is just delusional.
I honestly think its odd to call starfield a technical marvel. Im not gonna call it less impresive than no mans sky, but it is effectively no mans sky with a new coat of paint. and im not talking about Current Gen No mans sky, I mean 1.0 No mans sky.
If Starfield doesn’t deliver Mechas… I’m out. Give me Titanfall 3. Or Else… /s
Even liking Starfield personally, and hoping it keeps being improved, Emil is… interesting to say the least. The games good, but it ain’t the best. I wouldn’t say it’s better than Skyrim or Fallout 4. It’s a decent start, but with some pretty big flaws that need to be addressed
I would give Starfield a 5/10. I would give Skyrim and Fallout 4 a 9/10.
My biggest issue with Starfield is that they neutered the “choices matter” component of their games. If NG+ is going to be a thing, we should’ve had to be the ability to make our universes look as different as possible to reward replaying the game. I’ve played Fallout 4 multiple times with multiple different outcomes and it’s made the game feel different-ish every time.
I do think that Starfield is going to be a cult game, though, and it does have a bright future despite Bethesda not going all the way with making the writing more dynamic.
On one hand I get it you gotta report the news but on the other hand why is it every single video about starfield is about how band this game is or how there will never be an overhaul. I was kinda hoping that you would pivot towards mods and mod reviews just show the game a bit of love but at this point nvm
What I expected out of starfield was summed up in another game. Eve online, in their latest video from the scope showed an actual cult doing cult things. And I don’t play eve anymore, but wanted the serpent worshipers to be them, not Dr. Seuss of a faction.
To be fair he’s right. Who’s to say dogshit isn’t liked by SOME people?
I’ve been on the fence as an Emil defender/hater but the willful ignorance and that DLC comment had me fully on the “fire Emil” train.
Starfield would definitely benefit from a sim settlements type mod
I noticed I start scrolling on my phone during the talking points 😅 probably cause I played many hours of star field they should of made our character talk
I agree that in some very minor aspects. Starfield does exceed compared to Bethesdas previous games and even games today. The new physics in Starfield is an example of this. But I disagree with Emil about everything else.
He’s patting himself on the back and giving himself a gold metal when this is one of the least well-performing Bethesda games ever. This and his conference on how he writes games make him seem like a tone deaf ego-maniac.
I think the biggest peeve with him is his insistance on not using a design document. Stating it’s cumbersome on the development team to keep it up to date. A design document is an INCREDIBLY important part of development and ensures that teams working on the game have a shared vision. It ensures that people aren’t stepping on each others toes and makes sure the game feels connected. One of the reasons Starfield feels so disconnected is most likely because of this reason.
He’s also a pretty average, if not terrible, a writer. During the conference, he stated that for stories, you should keep things simple and stupid. Using only 1 or 2 themes in a story. A good story is rich and multi-layered. Bethesda hasnt had a good story since Oblivion, with a lot of story beats in Skyrim missing and Fallout 4s story being entirely weak.
I dont want to just blame Emil for Bethesdas struggle. There’s obvious management issues going on in the studio, and they just can’t compete like they could a decade or more ago. But, in my opinion, Emil is such a drag on the company and highlights the worst parts of the company.
I think they made a pretty big tactical blunder by releasing shattered space as the first DLC. They should have satrted with one that added some big new gameplay mechanic, like adding big customizable capital ships, implement mech engineering, a completely new enemy faction or space station building. Or at least expand on existing things, like adding a bunch of new locations for planet-surfaces, expanding the outpost system so you can build actual settlements or even small cities, maybe an overhaul for the abillity temple thingies. Shattered space added just a little bit more of what was already there. Might have been fairly decend as second or third release, a contained story DLC for 15/20 dollars maybe. But as a first release 30 dollar flag ship DLC, it was doomed to fail from the start.
Starfield just felt soulless. It felt like that magic feeling i got from oblivion, skyrim, f3, and even f4 was stripped down to its barest bones. They say its not for everyone but since the days of oblivion and f3, bethesdas games have only gotten more simplified and dumbed down for the sake of expanding their audience.
While their gameplay has become mechanically better, it felt like it came at the cost of creativity. They made more stories but they all became simpler, no longer do you get a sense of deep and rich story telling, now its just “go here-kill that- grab this-heres a reward” which yeah is what its always been but before they did a way better job masking the simplicity. The worlds feel empty and lifeless, instead of chasing the wonder of npcs having thorough schedules and selling them having a life, now everyone waits around for you. In oblivion they had a complex secret system built around goblins, taking a totem and moving it changed the entire dynamic of the many goblin tribe. Npcs talked to eachother and as goofy and dumb as it was it felt 100000x more alive than starfields npcs ever have.
At the end of the day it doesnt really matter lol, Bethesda is beholden to money, and money doesnt care how special you want to feel, only how fast and how much youll spend. Its just sad they dont realize theyd make so much more making games we truly love again.
You’re using the same engine, how does that make the game different from your other games that came before. They can’t hear the fans when their heads are stuck in the sand. Reap what you sow, BGS.
Fire Emil and Todd
Then Bethesda could recover
That simple
My fav non-main companion is Kaiser the robot . anyone who played the UC vanguard faction quest knows that robot had such a cooo story and personality. I was so sad that we weren’t able to recruit him :(😢
Technically the game runs on my potato system as the most stable experience from Bethesda right out of the box.
The writing, characterization, dialogue, story (except certain arcs like with the UC vs. Crimson Raiders,) seemed supremely contrived. Even inter-npc relationships didn’t have the feeling of being organic but more artificial and forced.
Starfield had a good scifi premise that was poorly executed as if it were made by folks who had an idea of what scifi stories might be without actually having read or experienced real scifi stories.
In the beginning of the core game I counted three missed opportunities in the first two hours to hook in the player and empower them with choice that could be more immersive and invest the player in the universe, giving a more organic path to pursue the story and side quests.
I just want a small patch update, where they change the game engine to Unreal 5 … nothing big, just a small change like that would be a good start.
I get Bethesda why they say that , they don’t wanna say it’s a horrible game lol it’s their art it’s a good game I beat the dlc main story , no side quests of it I think they could of done more of the main story dlc , 30 dollars ain’t bad if you look at the prizes of operators on cod and skins on Fortnite
In no way is Starfield the biggest, richest space simulation RPG anyone could imagine nor is it in any way the best game Bethesda has developed. Fo4 had better gameplay and crafting, Skyrim had better level and world design, Morrowind has some of the best story and questing (and the secrets were mind-blowing). What even is Starfield when compared to their own work, does it do anything better than their previous titles?
Im one of the few who blody loved starfield. Im on 1800 hours atm and cant stop playing it
Bethesda has shown its consumers that they refuse to listen to customer feedback. If they keep this up they will go down the path of Ubisoft, I am never buying a game from them ever again until they start listening to fans and get a decent writting team to work on their games. What a shame.
Bethesda rpg’s are my favorite games by far and this situation is very saddening to me. The mighty have fallen and elder scrolls 6 seems doomed.
Bethesda is coping hard, they seem to be making more shitty games as time goes on and it’s just going on a downward spiral. I’m genuinely concerned for ES6 at this rate
Idk how anyone at Bethesda could play a game like Cyberpunk 2077 and then think to themselves “wow, we’ve done a great job on Starfield”
I hope that TES6 will not feature filler NPCs, I loved the simulation feel of Oblivion/Skyrim where each NPC felt like a person and not a random generated citizen
1::13 ‘the best game we ever made’….disconnected? I call ‘what color is the sky in your world’, alex.
And in Starfield the NPCs no longer have daily schedules. It’s back to the Morrowind days where the shopkeepers are always at the counter and never go to sleep.
It’s a terrible game. Boring ASF. Waste of time. Waste of waiting in anticipation. Waste of money. It was oversold and over hyped. It’s actually as bad as everyone else besides Bethesda has said. No one talks about it. Even the modders said the game was sheit. Game devs need to get out and touch grass. No one wants what most of them are trying to sell us. Abhorrent asf. Most of the whiny people who complain in society are a minority not a majority. Stop catering to weak poser nerds.
Nobody should pre-order ES6, stop giving these clowns at Bethesda your money until they EARN it. The only way they will change is if sales tank which as terrible as starfield was it still sold well.
Bethesda are quick on implementing creation club BS than making a good game
“Space combat against planet size Chuthlu”. Your welcome. lol
This is the result of BGS sitting on this grand, infallible reputation for so long. As if they were King Midas and everything they touched turned to gold.
But that gold sheen proved to be little more than a thin coat of paint, and we’ve known that since Fallout 4 was released as a streamlined FPS with a smattering of RPG elements mixed in. Follow that with Fallout 76 and then Starfield, and, depending on who you ask, that would make three goose eggs in a row for Bethesda.
I’ve managed to have fun with everything BGS has released but I can’t in good conscience (or anything resembling sanity) comment that their storytelling is up to snuff with the rest of the gaming market.
BGS has a slew of different technical hurdles to get over if they want Elder Scrolls 6 to be a success, but for starters, they NEED to give Emil the axe and find better writing talent. His narrative style and its lack of appeal is the chief and foremost issue with ANY Bethesda title.
emil is good at some things but PR and intelligent storytelling are not those things–keep him away!!!
Starfield may be the biggest game Bethesda has made, but also by the far the emptiest, and so shallow. If possible, Bethesda should revamp the game and only open up access to planets that have “something to offer”. Something to offer means unique quests, unique equipment or new features. 1000 planets is a TERRIBLE CONCEPT when considering 99.9 % of the planets have nothing to offer. Imagine if only every 30th episode or so of Star Trek actually had the crew discovering something new, and the other episodes just had a loop of a planetary surfaces for 30 minutes. Not too exciting.
You can clearly tell that all of the real talent that made bethesda successful left the company long ago
Are they expecting us to blindly buy the next expansion?
Yeah Bethesda has a 10 year plan for their games alright. That plan is outsourcing the majority of dlc content development to modders with the studio taking off a slice of the creation shop sales, while their own dlc content is downgraded to the bare minimum and sold at full dlc prices.
Whenever developers say that ‘making games is hard” I reply “That’s WHY you get the big paycheck, remember?” Bethesda STRIPPED the game engine including several FUNCTIONS that could have alleviated a LOT of the complaints including most of the loading screens. I have NO sympathy for them whatsoever. Whenever Emil asks us to “cut him some slack” I end up thinking that he really doesn’t deserve that huge paycheck he gets from Microsoft.
Seriously, Elder Scrolls 6 is going to end up being an empty map with buildings/encounters/quests going for $10 a pop. They did it with Flight Simulator, Microsoft will happily do it here.
The fact that they find it their best game, when skyrim, oblivion, morrowind, daggerfall, Fallout 3 and 4 exist… is just insane to me. I love scifi, but starfield just wasn’t very good. Sure, their spaceship crafting mechanic was cool but the game itself is no where close to the best game they have made. I want TES6 to be good, but I don’t think Bethesda can learn from their failures.
Starfields biggest issue is and continues to be the story and the universe. Like the individual systems are good to ok but the connective tissue is meh
Juicer,
I’m glad you are getting more critical of Bethesda while still being reasonable. They need criticism from major outlets, content creators, etc… because their last two major releases have been pretty bad. I’d like to see them return to making good games and part of that process is their fans letting them know that this isn’t what they want.
The game is only a technical marvel if you consider how trash the Creation Engine is.
We want Todd and Emil fired.
“No ego, no arrogance”
Guy has no self-awareness and needs to go, sorry 🤷♂️
People would have liked Shattered Space if it had been cheaper.
I have given up on ES6, but the game Im looking forward to for that replacement is The Wayward Realms. I highly recommend people check it out.
Forgive me if I thought THE Bethesda Game Studios was capable of more. Being contrarians to the reception and leaning on “Hard Work.”
This isn’t an indie developer.
You were on the money when you said we want games that feel like they were lived in. That was my favorite part about skyrim and fallout. You just don’t get that and starfield. I missed the books and the stories they had in skyrim
Fire Todd
At this point its competition between emil and todd about who’s the bigger dumbass
I’m only 12 mins in and while I don’t doubt that Starfield is their biggest game, after only 287 hours, it feels like I’ve done everything. I’ve gone NG+10, gone through every main and side quest a handful of times, done everything that’s popped up randomly warping to planets, and it seems like there’s nothing left to do.
All the POIs are the same, and unless I wanted to visit every world multiple times over in hopes of triggering every single random event, it just feels like I’ve completed everything the game has to offer. I haven’t gone back for Shattered Space, and I’m not yet sure whether I will.
In contrast, I’ve played 600 hours in the original Skyrim, 242 in Special Edition, and 1247 in Fallout 4, not to mention the other Fallout games, and I know for a fact that there’s more I haven’t seen in those. While Starfield may be huge, it feels empty, even not taking into account all the desolate worlds.
SS is overall a decent DLC…for 15 dollars, not 30. They swung and they missed out on 2/3rds of the DLC’s potential.
1st: they shot themselves in the foot with the illusion of choice ending having no value or impact.
2nd: they didn’t add a Va’ruun staryard or other ship parts despite IN THE DLC the Ship Technician of Dazra says “you’re lucky I have experience with other manufacturers” indicating that there IS a Va’ruun-specific ship industry!
3rd: the weapons they did add were mostly reskinned variants of other pre-existing weapons, INCLUDING the Prenumbra, which, unless you BUY THE VULTURE Creation ALSO, the game DOES NOT natively provide the AMMO for!
Finally: they ONLY did something with Dazra and its environs, which, while I appreciate that level of detail, there was no point in adding a WHOLE NEW STAR SYSTEM full of even more empty planets/moons.
The ONLY really good thing to come out of this is the beautiful bleak environment of Va’ruun Kai and all the particle weapon ammo that you would otherwise have to pony up tons of credits for.
What they fail to understand is that the resentment consumers have for this game will 100% carry over to their next release no matter how good it is. If you can’t acknowledge failure and then gaslight your supporters you will end up losing a lot of support in the future.
They kept thinking a star wars rip off.
Broke my heart Todd! Let’s just say these kind of games don’t work. The technology just isn’t there. Stick to one map guys, covered in extreme detail.
So any news on fallout 4 fix coming anytime soon 🤔🤔
I genuinely think Emil Pagliarulo needs to stay off social media, in general. This feels like a story I’ve heard multiple times now that always roots back to him just yapping on Twitter for whatever stupid reason.
It’s called toxic positivity its the result of what happens when developers unionized and can’t get fired it’s clear Bethesda doesn’t care about it’s player base and has zero passion for gaming there just going by the numbers
No one asked for this game if I wanted a space rpg I’d play the old republic or mass effect
Starfield may be a technical marvel for bethesda, however, it’s not a technical marvel for the industry at large. Mass effect, No Man’s Sky, Star Citizen… do I need to go on?
For crying out load. Modders figure out how to implement vehicles in fallout 4 before bethesda could figure out how to implement vehicles in starfield.
Watching this video because it’s the only way I have to give Juice a little push. Love this channel, But Starfield is not even worth pirating.
Let me guess before I watch the video. Their response was still somehow tone deaf. Am I right?
The head writer doesnt understand his audience or how to communicate with them, gotcha.
All game franchises owned by publicly traded USA companies are dead. WallStreet is death for great games. They only sell almost good…
BG3 should be the MODEL for ALL games no matter the setting.
One of the things that upset me the most was them not having books to read, like they did in skyrim. They were one of my favorite parts and made me really feel like the world was an ecosystem with people who actually lived in it.
It still doesn’t have any space flight.
Seriously concerned for ES6….
What happened? I think the majority of fans agree that starfield is not the best what Bethesda can do. I had more fun with the Dawnguard DLC than the whole base game of starfield.
The cope coming from Emil is honestly sad at this point. The man is completely in denial, and as long as he wields power at Bethesda, I have very little hope for ES6.
I love Starfield. Stopped at New Game+10 🙂
body to head ratio is WILD
They could probably be forgiven for saying it’s the best game they ever made if they hadn’t constantly screwed up everything else and even broke games that were working perfectly fine with bad updates
starfield is amazing. i just have to say it. must be said. its amazing. im the internet. you are not. i win.
lol one of the best games they ever made?😅
This has to be a massive blunder knowing Bethesda
No way the company that sold the same game to us 40 times is resting on their laurels and rent seeking! No way
