i have the exact same hard drive, but not the starfield edition. I do get much better data transfer speeds up to about 1.2 TB per second
>segate
Itll die in a month
Ouch
Wow … 😅 …
I’m anti-SSD, because while they “infinitely” more resilient to mechanical forces, such as vibrations, they have limited read/write cycles and when they fail you can say goodbye to your data almost immediately. I don’t mind the speed difference, so, there’s only HDDs in my PCs. 🙄
It’ll be a perfectly good hard disk in an expensive box with a terrible controller.
TwWwOoOoO
that’s better than my ssd 😂
Seagate? Immediate no
Price
Ya but HDD are pennys nows
26 MB PER SECOND???? MY 80GB MAXTOR FROM 2003 GOES AT 60
16 times the transfer rates!
SMR drive?
Why wouldn’t they just put a SATA ssd in the same package?
That’s why cosmetics are the most expensive and most useless products ever created to throw money in.
my decade old 2.5 inch slow laptop hdd still does 80MB/s. This must be a SMR drive.
Can you mod it into an SSD?
Everything sounded good until the end
Looks like someone has been playing with their nose
Now ope. It up and put an ssd in it
Yeah I don’t think that’s the hard drive cause I own a old Xbox one version of the hard drive and I get data transfer of 3 gigabytes per second
SSDs may be best bang for your buck from a performance perspective, but not for capacity or reliability. If you’re looking for a main drive or quick data access, than yes, go with an SSD. If you are looking to store large amounts of data, particularly for backups, then HDD is the way to go.
And you cannot install and play starfield on this drive because it’s not fast access Xbox ready 😂
Only down side is…..not able to play Series X games off external harddrives like you can the Xbox one or the Xbox one X games
If only there was a specialised adaptor that fit in the rear Series X/S NVME 2230 M.2 port that would allow users to connect 8TB+ external harddrives and play Series X/S games off them instead of needing multiple removable NVME 2230 M.2 cards that dont excede 2TB
I heard hen- tai 😅
My ugreen external hard enclosure with 8tb Seagate 1gb max but this is terrible
Modify the hdd and the usb ports, easy 🙂
Haha what a shit game.
Love HDDs for bulk storage of media files and the like. A _good_ HDD, especially in the case on SATA should be 100-150MB/s read and write, which is plenty for movies, music, photos, 3D files for 3d printing, and a ton of older games. Sure, your going to want an SSD or NVME drive for the latest 200GB+ games, but if the whole game fit on 1 DVD, it’ll probably load plenty fast on an HDD.
I would buy that, take the hard drive out, put an ssd in and THEN use it.
You can slap in a SSD
Xbox one s all digital at home:
My laptop hdd is 125mb read 120mb write speed
bruh go darkk 😭
Hdd is good for video storage
I like hard drives cuz they’re cheep and do what I need them to and that’s hold more games for my PC and PlayStations
If i don’t how are u going to get memory storage
Hey the price isn’t horrible for the size, but the speed is bad. I’ve been considering getting an 8tb drive as spare storage so I never have to delete a game. I’ve got a 2tb nvme and I plan on getting a 4tb one soon. (Don’t worry, I have a dedicated os nvme). But I also want a mass storage drive that I could move games between to not have to delete anything.
4tb hdd $70 4tb ssd $200+, more bang for your buck… right.
8tb tho? that’s tight
The 4tb firecuda dock was a lot better
U could just change the inside from hdd to ssd if you just like the look of it
Best way to check this is to open up the shell and see what’s inside
Ah yes. A starfield themed hdd. For the game that requires an ssd. How fitting
just take the hdd out and reformat it, and put it back in. it usually does the trick from my experience.
Man I have a 2 tb external harddrive from western digital and it achieves a stable transfer speed of 100 to 120 mbps
for me 26mb/s is for me A LOT
and you better say sorry to hard drives cause without them ssd’s will not be a real thing
My 30 40 bucks hard drive has 150 read and writes
Shit looks like it was built in the 2000s with leftover 90s pc parts
Man i just guessed it right 30MBps 😂😂
It’s so fast 💀
Change your port to usb 3.2
3d printer, make your own ssd housing and a little bit of paint and presto, no buyers remorse over ancient tech.
WTF are those speeds? My external USB hard drives go over 120MB/s easily.
Wait they sold a Starfield hard drive even though the game can’t even run properly off a HDD? Sounds about right. Bethesda game related merch always sucks did you forget about all the 76 merch? Lol
Doesn’t… Doesn’t star field require a SSD… why are they selling hardware that the game literally says it can’t run on…
The funniest part about this is that Bethesda specifically said that starfield requires an ssd in their system requirements for pc
me with a passport hard drive hitting 260 mb/s
Quietly uses it as a case for 50 ssds Disclamer: I don’t own or have this
Damn bro got ripped off, but who is gonna blame him I would have done the same lol
Slap in a better 7200RPM HDD (e.g: Westen Digital Red (NAS))
So let me get this straight… a starfield themed drive, thats too slow to run starfield. I remember installing that on my WD 2TB and being upset at how bad it was.
And worst thing is you can’t play Starfield from that hard drive 😂
Im sure others have mentioned it but did you doublecheck your using a 3.0 USB port?
I have that but have to size and half the storage
It can’t even run starfield
“bad move on my part” so was the vision pro 😅
I have like 90 hard drives and
It’s the fact that it’s usb. I recognize the model number, I have the 4tb internal version of that drive (Seagate barracuda green) and it runs great.
Please donr call it “red dead 2”
Just swap the drive out with a sata SSD lol
you might aswell open it and replace it with a ssd
The craziest part is that Starfield system requirements say you need an SSD, so you cant even play it on this
I have 1.5 terabites on 2 harddrives combined and for a computer where play yputube mote than actual games and casual gamer this is great (my bootdrive is an 500 nvme ssd)
at least the hard drive is not rated at *5400 rpm* speed
that’s the fault of the usb controller board, not the hard drive itself. try taking it out and plug it in directly to see slightly different results
Download RDR 2 50 times over, only to have your loading times be 50 times longer? No thanks. Hard drives for games is a thing of the past.
Who tried the game pass code thinking nobody else tried it because they thought someone else already used it
26 megabytes per second is fucking ridiculous for a modern hard drive, should be seeing like 150-170mb/s, 100 mb/s minimum
There has to be a bottleneck, likely at the USB
HDD is the only way to go for a big Steam library. Would cost me thousands to put it on SSDs. My three 14TB Exos drives have served me well for years now.
I got a 8TB 5200rpm hdd for 120€. It manages 140MB/s. Its the controller in it, or the cable.
That’s bad for modern stuff but for a modded Wii U that’s more than enough to get every good game on the pretendo eshop where everything is free (I know it’s not called that for the people who know but it is simpler for people to understand)
Wait, What ? 26 MB/s ?
I used a 2007 2,5 160gb yesterday and I had 40MB/s write speed.
How to sell drivies that no one wants to buy xD
I just have both an sad and a harddrive
Swap in a ssd 🙆🏻♂️
Just like my external hard drive speed
A cool trick you can do with portable hard drives like that is pop open the casing and change out the actual drive itself. I picked one up out of a dumpster for free and then bought a four terabyte hard disk for $30 on eBay and now all of my PlayStation games are downloaded at the same time and I never have to worry about not having it installed it’s usually like a 3 and 1/2 in hard disk. I still don’t play my PS4 anymore though lol
This is just a sata adapter, you could probably just replace the internal hard drive with a 2.5 SSD maybe with a 3d printed bracket
I think the most ironic thing here is that starfield requires an ssd to run…
Lol they make a hdd starfield drive when it requires a SSD to run said game properly wtf🤣
welp, faster than my internet
tbh doesn’t look great. starfield fans really trying out here
26 mbs dam they got you. You’re better off buying 8TB HDD, then getting usbc to sata 3 adapter and a little quiet fan. Take your Amazon boxes and make your own using a glue.
Is it still that for absolute storage a HDD is still the way to go especially money wise? Because then a SSD in your PC with an external HDD for gamefiles of older games might be worth it.
I was like: buy? Buy. BUY!
Him: 26MB
Me: Oh, nevermind
As always, don’t trust Amazon
The drive itself may still be 7200RPM but the daughterboard may be USB2 and not USB 3.
Shitty controller possible?
I’m not against HDDs if it’s for the right use case. I’m not leaving all my movies on an ssd 😂 8tb around $150 isnt too bad. Though my internal drives hit well over 150mbs
I have 1 ssd to boot, 1 for gaming, and 6 HDDs for storage capacity. I have 32 TB and it’s almost full.
Pop an actually usb 4 controller in there, a big ssd, and pow really good
Just hollow it out and use it for your SSDs as an external enclosure. Lol
Seagate, so 25% of space is formatting bullshit.
That’s… abysmal, what the heck
The transfer speeds suck just as much as the game itself
Anyone else running out of desktop space??
My laptop had max 80mb/s
Less of 2k rpm
my wd black hdd hiting 100mb write at most of the time
‘Seagate’… its okay i’ll forget it for you. brand new external seagate hd lasted 3 hours. long enough for me to back up my computer hard drive then reformat it. go to restore and get clicking then no longer recognized. seagate = pos!
He succumbed to the oooo shiny part of your brain
Are These speeds enough for these games?
Can you open it and replace it with an SSD?
Idk why they don’t make these as SSDs
HDDS may have better longevity than ssds
i have a 5 years old hard drive that does 300-500MB/s… ironically it’s been more reliable and faster than any of thee SSDs i have, even better, it’s 4 TB, so i don’t need to worry about space
26mbps is slow even for a hdd, especially for 7000rpm
Ah it lives up to the star field name boring and over rated it will be forgotten in a month
Kinda worth it for storage between it and an ssd
Definitely has to be a controller issue and not the drive. Consumer 5400rpm vs 7200rpm drives really aren’t that different in speed, it’s only once you get to more prosumer or enterprise drives that you see a big difference in drive rpm.
flash drives have better transfer rates fgs
Man Microsoft zuccs 😀
Still way faster than my internet… 🙁
Seagate seems to be specialized in selling cheap low quality hard drives packed into a pretty enclosure. I got mine in a “Porsche” labeled gray box that failed in 3 years.
I recently got a 20tb drive for backup…..
Nice nails…🤘
They make a storage device thats starfield themed but you cant download starfield to it??? who thinked this was a good idea???????
Starfield’s branding is better than the game itself.
No, that’s about par for the course, around thirty was all I ever got, even with the faster 7200 rpm’s. Mechanical drives just really suck for read/write. I had tested that with two on sata, copy data from one to the other same system several times over because that’s how you recover drive data.
Um, doesn’t starfield have an ssd in the system requirements? Thats hilarious
How can you day more bang for your buck when the price per memory is far higher whos is what a lot of people look at. You can get 4tb drives for the price of a 256 ssd
The drive transfer should be around 1.5gbps to 2gbps. or around 208 Megabytes per second. The keyword here is “Transfer”.
whats slow about this drive is the access time. something that SSDs greatly excel at. Although you should still be able to play this game well enough anyway directly off the drive itself.
Pull it apart and put an ssd in it
Mega gerbals
I haven’t seen r/w speed like that in a very long time.
i literally could not give less of a shit about starfield, but the merch they made for it is gorgeous. i got the starfield xbox controller just cuz it looks fantastic
Imma guess it’s just an external 3.5in enclosure, so you could theoretically put an ssd in it.
“SSDs are usually more bang for your buck.”
*checks prices on 10TB SSDs since I’m building a plex server that will ultimately hold several hundred DVDs and Blu-Rays worth of data*
Naaah …
that transfer rate is baaaddd. I have platter drives for my nas and externals and i get way higher than 26 lol
Just take the drive out and replace it with a ssd. Unless its got some wonky proprietary connector it’s likely traditional sata
Test it with crystal disk info, it will tell you the speed and model of the drive.
ah i see it was made by bethesda too
What’s inside the box?
That’s not a disk speed issue, that’s the USB interface. Even a 5400rpm drive can transfer hundreds of megabits. Bet it isn’t running a usb3 chip.
Why is it french
Definitely won’t be playing Starfield off of that thing
Not even a 5400rpm hard drive tranfers data at 26mb/s. My seagate hard drive, which is 1000gb 7200rpm, could hit 250mb/s in read/write operation
A month??? Thanks, Microsoft 😑
I have hdds for older games, roms, and other larger files. The ssds are for newer games, critical applications, launchers, and browsers. My reason for this is that i can get a retired 4/8tb data center drive (former AWS use) for dirt cheap.
HDDs are not bad, theyre a cheap way to get a ton of long term storage. Really good for archiving, backups, old photos and videos. They’re also a physical storage solution so even with the drive dead there are specialized tools to pull the data directly off the disk, whereas if an SSD dies, you’re fucked
I got the 8tb because it was supposed to be fast enough …. Yeah i can hold the entirely of everything i e taken digitally but fuck me if I want to transfer a game over 25gb back to my xbox fucked off every single time i still want a refund
“Let’s make a Starfield themed external storage device that can’t even run Starfield”
– Todd Howard, probably
Legooo
5TB for $150 sounds like a lot more $/GB than an SSD. If you mean bang for your buck in $/GB terms you’d need to reconsider how you approach hard drives as they have always been a better value in those terms.
Out of all of the external hard drives I have used over the years, the only to have ever failed on me were Seagate brand.
Are you able to swap the HDD because I kinda like the housing?
About the same quality as a Bethesda game. Sounds about right.
Buy the drive, swap out the hdd inside with an ssd. Problem solved lol.
Why are Stm chips every where
Might as well make a Starfield CD-ROM driver at this point.
I smell a class action. If its marked as being a certain speed but is significantly slower, people won’t just let that go.
when eide is faster you know its bad
Bro thinking we won’t notice he’s using old usb cable.
I’ve had a few Seagate hard drives crap out on me. Regardless of the size, WD has never given me any issues.
everyone that tried the code
V
Probably the low speed are because it’s connected over usb. Might be faster over sata
So it’s 150 for the case, because the drive itself is e-waste 🙁
Well, Xbox sucks, Starfield sucks, hard disk drives suck, at least it’s pretty
5TB in 2023 is just not enough.
In 2023 it should at least have 2 digits in storage capacity.
In 2024 16TB is the least. I would recommend 20TB or more per HDD.
i don’t know jack about computers but even i know if it’s in the mb/s it’s not good
“anti hard drive” why?! Ive NEVER had a hard drive failure. Ive had 4 SSDs die on my in the last 5 years. They wear out extremely fast, espacially the “bang for your buck” ones.
8TB and no USB 3.2 gen2..xD what a grabage.
Bros fingernails: 💅💅💅
Nice nails!
wait starfield run terrible on hdd right?
Any chance the enclosure sux. Because this sounds an awful lot like usb 2w practical speeds
Also i wouldn’t say ssds are always more bang for buck, if you wanna store a lot of “dead dara” where random access times REALLY doesn’t matter that much, you almost always get more space on hdd with the same money
Think some can crack it open and replace the guts with a SSD
star feild cant even be loaded from a hard drive has to be a ssd or the xbox will give you the transfer option 😂
I didn’t buy starfield and I don’t want to but that harddrive enclosure is awesome looking too bad it’s only 26 megabytes second or I would’ve gotten it
… is that speed even fast enough to run starfield without glitching out?
SSDs have more limited rewrites than HDDs, don’t they? I’m not made of money and I’m not in a hurry most of the time.
I knew those werent his fingernails i kept seeing
But… starfield requires an ssd to run…
It does look cool. Shame the speeds are a scam
HDD has one use case now. You can unplug them and if you are careful with it should have the data on it still 5 years later. As long as you don’t live in a frequent earthquake zone. Good offline backup for relatively cheap. Do yearly checkups on it and it will last a long time.
Me: 26gb/s isn’t to shabby.. wait..
Sorry, but hard drives are still good for back up systems, and mass storage sata base, as they can hold 8TB for round 300USD depending on where you are at, I got my 2TB for 50USD, but there was a cheaper option per TB, I didn’t take just because the total was out of budget, having said that l, HHD are much slower, so it is good for mass storage, not gaming, also aren’t they working on a peda byte SSD that is supposed to be super fast and just as cheap?
Double the price for the same storage is not ‘bang for you buck’. I bought thr best HDD i could find and even the cheapeat SSD is still double the price with similar preformance.
It just looks like my Xbox One S but mini
HDD life
That’s way too slow… I’m willing to bet there is a problem with the USB connection.
One gigantic problem which I don’t believe has ever been Resolved is if you use external hard drive with your Xbox and you have a Windows computer it’s basically been Brecht because windows will just ignore that hard drives existence like not even just not letting you read the files on it no the drive is completely ignored like the red headed step child so you can’t reformat it or anything unless you have a Mac or Linux computer which is just bloody terrific
Disk rpm won’t change that. Most 8tb 5400 rpm disk are able to do 250Mo/s just fine.
25mo/s is simply the usb2.0 speed limit, you either used a 2.0 cable or port, or this product only support usb2.0 witch would be mind blowing for a 8tb hard drive
Only time I use hard drives is in and external Sata/IDE dock.
Basically I use them like tape drives for long term storage.
So this is bad right?
Even cheap USB 3.0 to SATA enclosures are faster with 5400RPM harddrive 😂
Would you prefer to run long term storage backups that are over 50TB on SSDs? That sounds unnecessarily expensive.
You spent 150$ on ewaste and are happy about it….this is why Bethesda will never get better
Don’t be anti hdd when you’re building a high capacity NAS though
Ssds are not better bang for your buck you can get a 2 tb hdd for 60 dollars when 2 tb ssds are 150 and above for a good one
I’m a fan of hard drives for one specific usecase. Large storage that doesn’t require fast transfer rates.
And the best part. Starfield needs an ssd to run properly
Damn, I misread Starfield as Seinfeld.
looks like it is stuck at USB2.0, maybe check your cable
When it comes to mass storage you get more space per dollar with a HDD over an SSD
Try finding an 8tb SSD for less than a hundred or so dollars
I think you got a dud.
That’s slower than my Internet speed 😂
Yeah let’s promote more scam games and company’s
8tb 27mbps hdd isnt too bad 😂
SSDs are awesome, but the roughly 12TB of data that I have, won’t go on any SSD that I can afford.
I do have an awesome idea for a storage device though. An X16 length PCIe card, filled with last gen NANDs and controllers. Should be cheaper and better than any HDD by a mile.
This should be especially beneficial for those who handle tens of TB of data regularly.
make sure its connecting to computer at usb 3. There have been cases I had to wiggle the cable in the plugs.
Huh, I like how that’s just the standard Seagate drive but with a star field skin on it
That speed is the cable or controller chip, not the harddisk. Any 8TB harddisk will do 150+ MB/s sequentially.
Never buy a woke game inspired device.
HDDs =🚶♂️
SSDs = 🏃♂️💨 (As fast as The Flash ⚡)
-sell game-themed hdd
-game requires ssd
Hey I’ll take it I need an external HDD real bad
It’s a Seagate, so good luck with that 😅
Everything was exciting
150 usd for nice looking ehdd, woftware, game pass (never used one but still neat, imo). But those read-write….
Price up 20tb of SSD storage lol.
HDD’s still fill the gap for backups.
Tip: you can “mod it” by just replacing the HDD whit a sata SSD.
[because 99% of the external hard drives on the market are just a sata hard drive whit a sata to usb adapter]
Looks like a tiny xbox one s
Bethesda: “You need an SSD to play this game.”
Also Bethesda: “Check out our overpriced, Starfield themed HDD! You can’t run shit on it!”
Dumb people: “Shut up and take my $$$!”
NO WAY THEY SAID PACK AND INCLUDEE ONLY A SINGLE STUCKER LMAO
Shuck it and see what HDD and USB it is.
26MB/s?! Is that all?! That’s significantly worse than every other storage device in modern use! Who even sells HDDs anymore? Obviously SSDs are superior but you also get up to 1.5TB @ 130MB/s microSD cards for £150! *_1536GB in something smaller than a THUMBNAIL!_*
Wait what data rate is a normal 3.5inch 7200rpm drive?
26 mb/s??? Holy hell that’s crap 😂
2010 called, they want their speeds back 😂
I’ve never really noticed the nails so not sure if it’s a new thing or not but I’ve spotted it recently. It’s nice that we now live in a world where this is just not a big deal instead of the macho man bullcrap from 10 years ago. Keep rocking it, is there a theme to what colours/fingers you choose or just by the fly? 😂
26 Mb is bad?
“ssds are usually more bang for your buck” bruh what??😂
All I heard was $150 ssd case
Return that thing 🤣🤣
Common bathesda L.
SSDs are just as reliable as HDDs.
But HDDs are still really cheap compared to SSDs.
An 8Tb SSD is nearly $700
An 8Tb HDD is less than $200
Only reason to use SSDs is for portable stability and space savings.
I for sure won’t buy an SSD if I need 8TB or more, they are too damn expensive. HDDs are so cheap that for mass storage and non frequent use they still win.
40 bucks investment 150 bucks a piece…$$$
It’s probably the USB interface bogging it down
Wait, so. A Starfield themed drive that can’t play the game off it?
On Xbox its a Series game and will require internal or proprietary ssd and iirc steams minimum specs for the game says it needs an SSD too sooooo….
Expecting anything Starfield not to be a failure is a failure of logical thinking.
I’m not anti hard drive for archives.
Probably an SMR drive with no dram cache.
Must’ve been the cable, or that’s how much the HDD speed capable of. And seeing it makes me sad.
CRINGEEEEE😂
Cope just crashed on me out of no where. Prays I can eventually afford another(note the computer was given to me 5 years ago)
Hdds are more reliable
HDD are either for media or games that dont need the boost of a ssd
Sure a ssd would be nice for every game but not every title can and will take advantage of the faster loading of an ssd
StarYUCK
I’m starting to think your hand model for displaying stuff is a different person
They accidentally put a USB 1.1 connector on there 😭😂
I have a Seagate 5TB portable hard drive and it has better speeds than this thing
Thats the speed of usb 2.0 either by not using the included usb c cable, faulty from seagate, or b broken usb-sata bridge chip.
Since when are ssds more bang for your buk
It’s really not that bad for an 8TB drive to be completely honest. Even the middling Seagate Barracuda is around the 150$ mark.
A5600 rpm 2.5 inch drives does 100 mBs sequential. There is somthing wrong with it even with usb 2 it does like 40 . Id crack it open and test the bord with an ssd and drive with directly connecting it to sata port.
that thing is somehow faster than the ssd in my laptop
Free stuff
Didn’t know bro painted his nails lol
Sounds like USB 2
Operatin at USB 2.0 speeds it seems.
Try it with another device.
Bro just gave a free game pass month for his viewers for no reason and no one is talking about it.
Why does it look like an xbox one x?
I was expecting like 100mbs on the slower side but pretty standard for an HDD. But 26?!
Wait. You mean Amazon has a product that is not as advertised?!? No way!
#boycotamazon
Bruh, even my crappy 250GB External HDD is faster than that
Man, those transfer rates are bad!
Now mod it to have an ssd inside.
….it’s a Seagate….are you shocked?
At that point you might as well just get the game
Why can’t they make stuff like this for games that are actually fun
They need to make a Starfeild themed Series X to go with it.
It’s a damn shame the game is so mid. The merch aesthetic has been killer so far
Glazorb
They should make an SSD version
