Honestly Starfield is so bland i dont think releasing before no mans sky or fallout 4 would ha e helped it. The problem isnt that its “too late to be impressive” the problem is there just isnt anything there to grab onto in the gameplay, exploration, simulation, or lore. Its just kinda bland. Fallout 4 wasnt ever that impressive either, but it has fun things to do.
oh so you mean if bethesda could actually make games that l doesn’t take a decade to make that people sound of liked it more?
Modern open world games should be treated as a “safer” investment into an early access game. Releasing such a massive game on a triple A development time scale is just not feasible. Most open world success stories have terrible releases and polish up into a great game after 1-2 years of constant development, ironing out bugs and fine tuning. No Man’s Sky, Star Citizen, Cyberpunk 2077, etc.
I think one of the best representations of a release done right is Larian with Baldur’s Gate 3. They received massive support during their early access and basically used their supporters as beta testers. So when they officially launched, the game came out wonderfully.
I’m happy for all the former Larian employees that got bought up by the big corp game studios. Despite meaning that Larian is pretty much dissolved now, the guys deserve to take the pay check after so many years of being a titan of the crpg genre with the divinity series. 🎉
We had arkham Knight in 2015, so even for a decade ago, it’s outdated
I don’t think compairing those games is fair. they’re both very different space themed games
“If this was released ten years ago it’d be considered good” you can say that about almost any game dude. That’s a stupid statement.
Yeah, if this 2024 game released in 2015 before Star Citizen it would have been impressive. That’s such a blanket statement that would apply to so many shit games.
I don’t think it would’ve been good anytime after 2008
Idgaf
Even in 2015… I’d be heavily disappointed
There’s a huuuuge problem with exploration, which is what makes BGS enjoyable
You cant mod faster load times?
No we already had fallout 3 and other bethesda games that worked so starfield would still be shit
It’s just not worth fixing
Sounds like we better hope they get started on Starfield 2.
I still remember me saying “It’s a Fallout 4 reskin!!” while watching the gameplay trailer…
And everyone on that page were booing at me
Never too late to say that we were right😅
If Bethesda actually cared for there ip, and products, they would invest the time and effort into the iteams. Like 76 is good but has a pay to win pay wall that halts grinding, even then grinding isn’t fun, nor is coop. Starfield would need a ground up remake, would take maybe 3 years at minimum to get it to compete with SC, ED, NMS, X”series”, to be a good Space RPG, ( granted that’s vs sims, but sims are better honestly ) Mass effect, Kotor also are just better space RPG’s to compare it to raw RPG games…. Starfield fails as an rpg and it fails as a space game.
It’s not just that Sony tried to add the requirement of a PSN account for Helldivers 2. It’s that the game was sold, bought, and played in countries where PSN accounts are not allowed. So if the PSN account requirement was added then thousands of players would have no choice but to refund Helldivers 2.
Well, at least Starfield was released. Star Citizen wont (It makes too much money NOT releasing).
I honestly don’t understand what people mean by this, and I certainly don’t understand why anyone really CARES how old the tech behind the game it. Seriously, someone please explain this to me. Why does it even MATTER? I see nothing wrong. If this gane was make back in 2015, you wouldn’t care? Or if this game was all new tech, and still was the same as it is now, you wouldn’t care? Please explain.
I honestly would’ve started fixing combat. More guns, a complete overhaul of melee,.more movement, more options, better enemy ai, better mechanics etc.. I think it’s something more easily fixable.
Honestly I still don’t think I would have enjoyed it. Has nothing to do with the loading screens and technical shortcomings. It’s just… Boring. It’s shallow, barren, zero fun to explore or even play.
Bad writing and bad design is bad whatever the generation, if Starfield was compared to Oblivion or Fallout 3, Starfield will still fall flat.
I know we ain’t using star citizen as a metric…
What bothers me is that Todd has been talking and hyping up Starfield since 2013 like the game was going to be revolutionary 😒
Bethesda is unacceptable right now. Quality control if they could steal some people from Sony that would be great.
The talk about no man sky is so dumb. Yeah it have transition between plantens and the solarsystem but it’s not rpg in his core its a survival game with base building. Starfield is an rpg and has many things no man sky doesn’t have. I like both games but this comparison is so flawed and ignorent. On top no man sky had waaaay more time to patch things out and had big content updates.
Creation engine is not capable of non-fishbowl design. They would have to build it new from scratch.
Starfield is trash stop making excuses for it. Are you Todd howards employee? No, then stop
I honestly think if they can fill these empty planets with more interesting things a lot of the hate will go away
The fact that modders say they cant fix starfield but were able to do it with skyrim with open cities
No, just no. NMS was more bare bones than Starfield when it came out and took it how many years to get to where it is now? And Star Citizen was in development for how long? and cost it’s supporters how much? STFU with comparing them, it’s not “fair” to compare them, not one bit. You people just want to hate and be negative.
I definitely agree that technical limitations are not viewed well. But technical limitations have a LOT of old games and people love them. They honestly think the problem here is the filling not the packaging.
Sorry, NMS is still “fly here to see a planet with green sky and purple grass” then “fly there to see planet with purple sky and red grass.” Im not defending starfield. I just dont see NMS as a space game done right. It’s boring.
I would not say “way better”. Even just comparing it to fallout new Vegas, it’s trash.
Idk I’m only comparing it to every other Bethesda game when I compare it… and it fails in comparison to morrowind, oblivion, skyrim, fallout 3 and 4… I’ve never even play no man’s sky or start citizen… I just can’t get into starfield like I have every other Bethesda game.
So you telling me they dropped such a broken game they don’t see any point in fixing it? 😅
I don’t think so
The update would have to require a huge install as those problems are built within the engine so they’d have to dig into the roots of the game and mainly into the game engine to fix the issues.
This is extreme levels of cope. Even with the extremely dated engine, the design and glitches were REALLY bad
People forget about starbound, they did it even before NMS (althought it’s a 2d game)
They could go a long way toward fixing the fishbowls by giving the bases there a roguelike randomization. The single fact that killed exploration the most for me was knowing that even after I walked the 8 minutes out to a point it would be the *exact* *same* *base* everytime. Same items, same layout, same baddies in the same spots, etc.. that’s what truly killed the desire to see what was out there, I already knew what was there.
I think that’s the actual problem, it’s thing and outdated. Players have a newer standard for games now a days, especially for big companies like Bethesda.
I doubt any time period of gamers would’ve thought starfield empty worlds are interesting.. even their cities were just generic version of some of the e most overused tropes… I’m truly convinced Bethesda barely know what they’re doing with the tech anymore and have no creative direction as far as writing goes. Fallout isn’t their franchise, and I doubt they’re gonna innovate for es6 unless major changes happen
I think the loading screens being unacceptable are less about “there’s No Man’s Sky now”, rather “everyone has SSDs now”.
I love Skyrim but even in 2011/12 a lot of the games mechanics, especially combat and movement, were really dated. Hard to say Starfield would do well when even in 2015 it’d have some strong competition
I believe it can become a lot better, but some of the core issues they won’t be able to do much about. Like they can add lightsabers and starborn powers that basically turn you into a jedi, and cool bosses with a hint of something souls-lite, maybe even add compelling content to explore planets for and space battles that are interesting and deeper than 5 minutes. But the technical stuff with load screens is pretty much a hard no.
The game itself is also just really boring and uninteresting how do u fix that? Even modders gave up on this game
Star field was just mind numbingly boring. I could deal with loading screens if what’s loading is full of content, but what you load is bare landscape and cookie cut POIs. I cant believe they thought it was acceptable to have 3 POI builds and claim the game rewards exploration
In other words it’s a shit game made to make a greasy company money
No man sky is trash
If they had ten more years to develop it, and if a couple of terabytes was an acceptable game size then i think the game couldve been good. Just tried to take too big of a bite.
Yes. And my knowledge about chemistry and medicine would probably amaze people in the stone age… But this does not make me a chemist or a doctor.
Honestly ill take fallout 4 over starfield any day of the week
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
HOLY MOTHER OF COPE
No if star field was good it’d be seen as an amazing game… no man’s sky has been doing a sliver of what star field said it would be please do not compare star field and no man’s that is a disservice to no man’s
Fallout 4 is a better game than starfield
The Witcher 3 soundtrack 🔥😇😇
Lets just say if starfield came out in the same year as ME Andromeda, which one do u think would play better?
Stanfield is one of those games that I’ve learned so much about through these kinds of videos. But never have I ever even seen gameplay, let alone a trailer for the game. So shoutout to those dedicated players
Idk man. I play the greats from 2007-2012 and the standard game today doesn’t hold up against that era.
And lets not forget, if Starfield took Fallout 4s launch that would mean going against Witcher 3. Which stands alongside the GOATs of gaming. You can’t simply push a lame, boring, game back in time and say “It would’ve been funner then.” Starfield doesn’t even match up against Skyrim or Fallout 4.
It’s also doesn’t help that Bethesda made it
Star Citizen… Fuck that pyramid scheme! It was meant to release in 2012
It would not have been recieved as “amazing” back then 😂😂 it wouldve been reciebed a little better but the fact that its still as wide as an ocean and as shallow as a puddle still stands. People would’ve gotten bored of the fishbowl environments very quickly even if it came out in 2013
“if starfield released before no man’s sky (2016) and star citizen (first playable module 2013) it would’ve been amazing and impressive”
yeah maybe for a year, until elite: dangerous (2014) came out
then it would just be measured against Elite:Dangerous
I mean, to be fair to Starfield here, the game was never meant to be No Man’s Sky or Star Citizen. It was meant to be a Bethesda style RPG set in space, which is conceptually fine, in my opinion. I just think the fact that the absurdly vast expanses of this game are so lightly populated by meaningful, hand crafted content is very anti Bethesda RPG because Bethesda RPGs have traditionally been pretty hard carried by the fantastic worlds Bethesda makes ever since Skyrim at the latest.
Their engine is very outdated and pushed to the limit. They certainly have to upgrade it. A lot of the limitations are bc of it i’m pretty sure
Jesus the amount of cope some people have to justify why starfield wasn’t showered in praise is unbelievable
I think any average game today would be seen as great 10 years ago. But that’s the thing. It’s supposed to be up to today’s standards, not 2014’s standards
In all honesty Mass Effect 1-3 beats out Starfield. It had alsmot everything statfield had except ship building.
Yes. It’s a game made by a studio that fell behind 10 years ago and refused to do anything but Skyrim while other companies learned things like how to make modern games
