The best fallout game is a matter of perspective, it depends on what you like most about games, for me the atmosphere of 3 has made it my all time favorite fallout, I believe it has the best atmosphere while new vegas has a better story and 4 has the best gameplay mechanics

I think all of them need mods to be optimally enjoyable.

New vegas has the freedom fo4 thinks it has unfortunately it’s a little too unrestricted its pretty easy to fuck up and get yourself in a bad situation (first run i immediately headed NE to the cazadors without knowing)

I had vegas crash all of once and spent almost two hours trying to get fallout 4 to not run like hot garbage while also waiting during the actually atrocious wait times and before someone says its because of bad hardware I am using rtx 2080 ti, 5600x 32 gb of ram and everything is on a nvme. The game should run with no issues

Dude who ever says fallout 4 has better gameplay, has never played new vegas. No counted reloads, essiental characters, and unbalanced combat just loads a terrible time. Also, no the reason why new vegas needs mod is because its outdated, and has trouble running on newer systems, thats why you need to install the mods. If you dont some 0’s can read as 1 and thus it crashes

Fallout 4 is trash and proof that too much polish is a factor. Fallout 3 and new Vegas were excellent and both had even better DLC. The only DLC that was any kind of good in 4 was nuka world and even that was pretty lame. Again. Fallout 4 is fallout without the grim dark and all of the chrome shine of 50s. I hate that. It killed the apocalypse vibe for me.

I have played NV on both ps3, Xbox360 and PC. I never had it crash on me before. I know the ports for NV weren’t a good port. So it crashed for my friends. Imo I enjoy both games gameplay. Fallout 4 just allows better access to gun mods. and NV is also super fun to play for me.

I don’t use mods but I rather play a years worth of New Vegas on PS3 compared to a months worth of Fallout 4.

NV is an older game, that is why you need a few mods to run it. Same with FO3.
4 is a theme park. There are a lot of ideas and stories in it but they are all half baked. The main dramatic urgency of finding your child is completely undermined by the other three stories in the game.

That’s not fair, you’re trying it after years of shit bugs and Bethesda, 76 is a great game after 5 years.

Bring back the fallout 3 skill points but also perks. Make skills level up the more you use them like skyrim. Make melee skill reduce block and attack stamina as well as speed. For guns they increase reload speed and accuracy. Make fast travel like overworld travel in fallout 1, including being attacked while doing it. That is a wishlist.

How does New Vegas crash?

Idk i just get tired of dumping 80 rounds into each enemy I fight in fallout 4, plus the lack there of roleplaying. And the how 90% of the npcs suck. That’s the reason I like fallout 3 and new Vegas, the games had difficulty but also made it where you weren’t a baby back bitch. In fallout 4 you just stand there and shoot until you reload, then keep shooting until the enemy drops. My only 2 issues with fallout three, is the lack of ads and how everything has brown and grey tone turned up to 10, which is the worst graphical decision the gaming industry ever made. Glad it didn’t last more than 5 years. I struggle to play Skyrim now because of how ass it looks with the vanilla filter.

That crashing argument is an entirely nitpicked point with no real weight to it. Fallout 4 is everything fallout was never supposed to be. It wants to be fallout, but cod fallout. It has no real rpg value, verw few enjoyable story moments, few cool characters, sudden lore retcons that suck dick, and all the factions are ass. NV is the better game, at least imo. Bevause I actually care about the sanctity of my rpg experience. You on the other hand, I can’t tell what you want out of fallout. But let me put it this way: Fallout 4 barely constitutes as “Fallout” because its so fsr removed from what the series was. Its only claim to Fallout is the title.

I really don’t think it destroys the argument when you have to download mods. That doesn’t make Fallout 4 the better game. It just makes it the newer game. Fallout New Vagas only crashes bc it’s old. If there’s a mod that lets you enjoy the game without the strain of outdated game play, then use it and objectively rate the game of its contents, and not the stuff that limits you from actually experiencing it.

Hell, i actually feel emotion when im looting through a random bus and relised ive been stepping on the corpes of children, i actually wish i could bury them. The amount of emotion and varity in fnv is why its better. But hey, yelling after shooting jets pretty cool.

Hey. Does anyone give a shit about Melee combat? Because fallout 4 has the worst 3rd person perspective in any fallout, as well as the worst melee combat in the bunch

Fallout 4s gameplay is… okay. I like the game, but the amount of options are not really all that special compared to previous games. Furthermore, the story and the characters are shit, and the build variety is lacking with the cut to perks. Gunplay is passable; but if that’s all that it is then you lose out on 2/3 of your rpg experience with all that’s left being a passable singleplayer fps. Comparing it to a game that is over a decade old and losing on 2/3rds, possibly even the final 3rd, of the game’s quality means that fallout 4 is definitely not better. Even including crashes. New vegas is the best fallout experience; fallout 4 is bethesda’s best fallout experience.

I’m sorry to say this, but when it comes to fallout four storyline, it’s actually hot garbage. Fallout three has a better story, fallout new Vegas has a better story.

Mods being required doesn’t destroy the argument for two reasons.
1. Both Fallout 4 and Fallout New Vegas are buggy and basically require downloading the Unnoficial patch. One because it is a Bethesda game and the other because it was made in 18 month’s in Bethesda’s buggy engine.
2. Older games require mods to work on modern hardware. Give it a decade and Fallout 4 will most likely also require mods to function.

I don’t like this argument because what it really means is: the game is old and therefore worse.

Personally, I feel that Fallout 4 is a decent shooter with poor RPG gameplay. While New Vegas is one of the Best RPGs with poor shooting gameplay. Also Fallout 4 has a boring main quest-line, but that’s just Bethesda in general.

I do, however, agree that Starfield is likely very boring. Watched some gameplay of the first two hours and decided it wasn’t worth the time. At least I spent a while playing the side stuff in Fallout 4!

idk about anyone else, but the only times I’ve ever had FNV crash were due to the memory issues on the console versions. I’ve never once played FNV or FO3 with mods, and the games were totally fine within the expectations of normal Bethesda jank.

Haven’t played any FO games yet but watched the series and loved the lore and characters! Where should I start playing?

I played FO3, FO:NV and FO4 when they were all new.

Love them all, but New Vegas is my favorite. I never thought to play it with mods.

The funny thing is, kids nowadays won’t give these games a try because of how old they are…but for those of us who can immerse ourselves into a single-player game, graphics mean diddly squat.

Populate planets more im running 10-20 minutes without spotting an enemy?

My take on starfield is they designed it to be fixed by modders its basically a modding template waiting to be modded (they should have released creation kit right away)

I used to be a huge 4 hater but as I’ve grown older I really appreciate the game running and being enjoyanle immediatley. I truly love New Vegas still, it’s a beautifully made game, but it’s age definitely shows. Personally thats why I’m excited for the eventual release of the New Vegas mod for FO4, since it’ll fix the biggest issues with both games

The Starborn powers were honestly the only good part of that game. They were fun to use and a really cool concept.

Alright ill say it. Fallout 3 has better combat than Fallout 4. Enemies are too tanky and stupid in F4, the physics feel wonky, the animations are wonky, and aiming with iron sights sucks, it covers half your screen with a big ass gun and once you shoot its hard to track your target cuz the crappy recoil and animations. Also slowmo vats is wonky.

New Vegas did it better. Fallout 4 the father of boring

I play fallout new Vegas On a core i5 2050 laptop. S*** crashes like once a week. I can’t go an hour and a 1/2 without fall out for crashing on either my PC or my PlayStation 5.

I love how half the comments are about NV being completely fine, honestly that’s my experience too.
As for comments saying FO4 actually runs much worse, I can’t actually comment, I don’t even have that one yet lol.

Fallout 3 on the 360 as the DLC’s were releasing was one of those you had to be there moments that’s hard to explain, the dashboard used to have guides and tips from a bunch of names that I don’t remember anymore.

Fallout 4 wants you to progress through the story. New Vegas gives you a BB gun and says good luck.

Oh shit I never drew the dragon star born connection yeah that makes sense, but again new Vegas has a better role playing game feel than 4 and 4 feels like a better open world shooter survival game, both are good, I prefer narratives myself so I prefer new Vegas, but I have a lot of fun in 4 with the settlement system and its sandbox, new vegases sandbox is cool but after dumping over 7k hours into it, it gets boring and uninspired, the only thing that keeps me playing New Vegas is the story, I like to play each one at least once a year, the only difference is I’ve beaten new Vegas or at least gotten to the dam hundreds of times, I’ve beaten fallout 4 maybe 3 times?

I play on Xbox and Fallout 4 is virtually impossible to play with the constant crashing. New Vegas has only crashed 1-2 times in the 350-400 hours I have. That being said, New Vegas is the way better game.

Loved Starfield, and Fallout 4 is better than Fallout 3 DLC New Vegas.

Both are good, but to be fair, i perfer my single player games to have the most solid storyline and New vegas definitely takes that one. Comparing gameplay from a game from a different time in gaming to a more recent one isnt exactly fair either. New vegas relased on ps3, fallout 4 relased on ps4. Of course your gonna see a major improvement for crashes, graphics, and size. Both are solid though, love the settlement building in fallout 4

People forget that Fallout is supposed to be about the POST post-apocalypse. The Great War was 200 years ago… people have moved on and started truly rebuilding in New Vegas. Thats why its better, it understands what the original Fallout games were about.

Fallout 4 quite literally has the clunkiest gunplay on PC out of all the 3d fallout games. Yes, even FO3 is better. What’s dumb to me is in Falloit 4 is I realized none of the guns have partial reloads, none of the revolvers, not the pipe bolt action, not the double barrel shotgun, and most infamously not the lever action rifle

Fallout 4 does have smoother combat mechanics. It just doesn’t have the fleshed story and characters i know and love from 3 and new vegas. I do wish the ballstic weapons, specifically the 5.56 didnt look like a ww1 reject when ww2 is still canon and shouldn’t need a step back in design. 😅 308 rifle was still good looking.

Kidding aside Nv was my first fallout and i had at least 6 playthroughs on console. Though the story was great and choices mattered i didn’t enjoy it as much as fallout 4. From the base building to the customization (just wish there was more ammo types) to not having faces look like melted plastic. It was overall imo a better fallout game especially for beginners

New Vagas is the best in my opinion, and well yes you may need some mods to iron out the gameplay a bit its only because its old and didnt recived updates in quite a while. Fallout 4 is good, it just feels like its lacking something that 3 and new vagas had but im not 100% what.

I personally have to go with new Vegas, the gameplay, characters, and the story are my favorite out of the series, plus the crashing thing sounds like a personal problem (no disrespect meant) cause I don’t ever crash when I play the game

I started on 2, played countless hours of 3, played countless hours on NV, and played countless hours on 4. To me, Fallout 4 is the most enjoyable one when it comes to the gameplay, which is by far the smoothest out of all of them. I loved 3, but it was way too short. And I love New Vegas’ characters and setting, but it’s also the most clunky out of those 3 when it comes to gameplay, in my opinion. And at the end of the day, it doesn’t matter which one you prefer because they’re all great games in their own way.

I like how you had to double back and make a post like this to defend your stupidity of not knowing it takes 10 minutes to have Fallout 3 + NV be crisp on the pc.

Legitimately never went far enough for the powers, for a free roam game, you can barely walk 50 feet without an invisible wall, though why would you? The open world is bland and only designated spots are worth going to. It sucks how it had so much potential yet they never bothered to work on any of it

You essentially have to install mods to enjoy fallout 4 too. Gameplay is better, but its much more recent so expected. The enchantments fallout 4 made to gameplay is the bare minimum. Fallout New Vegas is a better game when considering when it was released and the circumstances during its development. NV is the last actual fallout game made. With that being said i immensely enjoy fallout 4 and i have many more hours in it because of its settlements and mods. Both games are really good.

With a computer of around 400 euro fnv runs perfectly fine without mods and the game crashes 2 times in about 80 hours of gameplay(with one of the ending obtained and 2 of the 4 dlcs finished at the moment).
Meanwhile, fallout 4 on the ps4 crushed about 7 times during the first 40 hours of gameplay. So, what’s up with these claims of NV being a game that crushed every 10 minutes? Geniunely asking and thanks for the people that leave theyr answers

My favs are 3,4 new Vegas but sometimes i play 76 with my firends or if im bored and want to play something quick fallout 2 i own every fallout game (except brotherhood of steel) because it sucks

My biggest issue with fallout 4 is load times. Both are great games but loading anywhere in the city ruins takes forever.

Let’s be honest looking at the time scale new Vegas is WAY better shit was made it 13 months meanwhile fo4 had 6-7 years and still came out buggy. Not to mention there really is no role playing in fo4 your backstory is either wife/lawyer or husband/solider plus the voiced protagonist isn’t a great look in my opinion. Lastly design wise the guns look awful and way too big. I don’t hate fo4 I just prefer new Vegas.

You know what i stopped collecting the powers after the 1st one and just enjoyed being a space pirate and i actually enjoyed that storyline given i stopped playing after the heist i think the powers kinda ruined that experience

Yeeeaaa Starfield was okay. But after i started looking at everything i realized it was literally ES but in space. And that was what ruined it for me, don’t get me wrong the guns and everything is fun and the idea was great, but it just felt like a space ripoff of Skyrim. I just pry that the next version of fallout and ES is better.

I play New Vegas with the viva new vegas setup, just to minimize bugs. And while it does crash once every 2-3 hours, i have autosaves and i quicksave every few minutes so the infrequent crashing is not a big deal.

Play on era specific hardware and OS and that would decrease issues. 10 years from now unless they produce tons of remasters for Fallout 4 it will probably be the same situation. If you really wanted a fair shake on the game go version 1.0 on both. There’s also the difference of running 32 bit on 64 bit as well. I’m not saying NV isn’t buggy but there are no patches for the game officially so players simply have to use 3rd party ones. Not too long ago you couldn’t even boot F3 without a “mod” for years using a game .dll for the xbox live services .dll

Fallout 4 Assault Rifle Jumpscare

If your game is crashing every five minutes you’re pushing the game too hard. It has a 4 gig memory limit before it crashes. Lower graphics setting/render distances fixes it in base game. Honest Hearts DLC is hell, and you’ll need to f5 save rather frequently.

Fallout 3 was my first fallout game and will always hold a special place in my heart and I really did have nothing but troubles with New Vegas. Just getting it started. Maybe someday down the road. I’ll try it again but for now I’ll stick with it. Feels safe and nostalgic

Never have I had bugs in my Fallout New Vegas playthroughs, but when I tried Vanilla Fallout 4 it constantly crashed and lagged and the frame rate went bad so often. Also the weapon balancing is shit and the designs themselves aren’t that good. I can agree that you can like what you like but I NEED to have mods to enjoy Fallout 4. They are required. New Vegas, while difficult at the start, gets better the more you play it. People say shit like “Fallout 4 is better” but you can’t say much when 99% of Fallout 4 players only do modded playthroughs. People mod New Vegas for modern graphics or removing the Pip-Boy glove or Weapons. Sometimes they use the multiplayer mod, too.
