2years later I’m finally playing Starfield, I went way to far on side quest and regretted it once I finished Into the Unknown.

I have no idea why youtube recommended me this, but… I learned that the biggest mistake you can make is to open the game in hope it will be somehow different then it was when you last played it several months back, but don’t worry, it will took you only like 2-4 minutes to remind yourself why you didn’t play it for so long.

Its 2025 and I yet to pass that mission ….soooo ive been doing everything else ..lmao

Good video, liked. Every tip you gave was excellent. I think you waffled too much with the #8 Phil Hill section – yes yes paperwork is awful. The tip is still good though; that quest gives you crazy easy cash each time you sucker some schmuck into signing up for LIST, and it’s a fantastic and low-stakes way to train your Persuade skill instead of during actual quests (which you don’t want to screw up several Persuade checks). Do NOT sell Phil your planet scan data though, sell it to Vlad back at the Eye/The Lodge, he pays way more for it.

A tip of my own – you’ll end up finding plenty of alien parts, and plant leaves, and random crap like that. Every biological Resource like that can be sold to Noel at Constellation; she gives a massive markup for it – even common Toxins and Metabolic Agents will sell for 30+ cr each, allowing you to easily claim her entire wallet in funds each time.

The red Mile glitch could be added to this list. making sure you save before talking to the MPC and make sure she’s not talking to any other MPC’s and she’s standing by the guard. this is a mistake I’m sure a lot of regular players have fallen into.

My chief mission when not really doing missions is going planet by planet looking for various abandon hangars, mining locations, forgotten army camps etc. Because they are always infested by crimson pirates spacers to wipe out and to collect their gear off of their dead bodies. As a result I am always over encumbered with loot. When not trying to up grade the skill that increases how much you can carry, I cheat; I open up the game settings and crank up the setting governing how much you can carry just before you travel back to your ship. I think on the max setting it is at least 1000 units of weight then I quick travel back to my ship and once there I change the setting back to normal or what ever you were playing at. Also I noticed that you can have different settings for the normal game and for ship combat. At the beginning I was playing the main game on normal but used very easy for space combat. The only down side is you do not earn a lot of experience points using easy or very easy settings the positive using the easy settings is that you have a chance of surviving space combat while you gain real experience on how space combat works. As you play the game you can always crank up the difficulty.

0: Play the game

Actually, you do not have to waste skill points to increase your inventory space. Just go to “Settings” and set your inventory space to “greatly increased,” and you will be able to carry more than 1000 pounds right from the start of the game, then you can use those skill points for other things that you cant tweak in settings. I have picked up tons of stuff, including cargo, and still have plenty of room. Also, check out those setting before you even start playing (or at least after you create your character) to see what other tweaks you can make. Several of them will free up skill points for other things. Your difficulty options are there too; the game won’t ask your difficulty preferences at setup. You can change your settings at any time.

Maybe 1 year too late. But I just progressed to the mission Into the unknown, and I understand what you mean now…

You can go undercover in the Crimson Fleet after you talk to Commander Tuala in the Mast Building (giant building across from The Lodge above the NAT Station), sign up for the Vanguard, take the tour and the test, (encouraged to cheat if you have lockpicking abilities, aka security skill) by starting it and once the enemy ships spawn, go to the computer by the entrance and go nuts, pass the test, get sworn in, progress the questline and at the end you will get the questline “Deep Cover” follow the objective and you are officially undercover in the Crimson Fleet.

As a former EVE online player, Lasers is the best weapons. Period. Great video!

Dude, number 2, I’m doing the quest, but I didn’t get a ship so far and there’s a weird dude asking me to join a cult that sounds like the “chosen people” nonsense

Installing the game is the number one mistake

Mistake 1: Paying extra to play it early.
Mistake 2: Paying for it at all.

Nope ignore the main quest, I don’t use the space magic at all except when forced to do so at the Lodge. The second I can go do my own thing is when the main story gets ignored.

You don’t need to steal something to join the Crimson Fleet, that’s not the only way. If you do the first UC Vanguard quest Grunt Work you get the option to start the Crimson Fleet quest at the same time as Delivering Devils.

Mistake no. 1: Buying Starfield

You don’t have to get arrested to join the crimson fleet. It’s just the fastest way

Thanks for making this review. I’ve been seeing this game in Steam, wondering how it might be. Thankfully this review helped make up my mind, it’s not for me. TES, Wolfenstein and Fallout games suit me pretty well though.

As a Bethesda veteran, I ignored the main story for a while, and I kinda regret it.

I just bought it last week… I have been doing nothing but the main story again and again to get the power stacks from temples and the stacks from the neuro amp. No sense in building bases and such when its just gonna get wiped clean again. Im about on NG+11 cause for me that is the universe I will live in forever.

You do NOT want to complete “Further into the Unknown” until you did Sara’s mission.
You will want to do only Sara’s mission, maybe her and only a second person’s.
Her ability can be replaced with Helium-3 Outposts so it is the only viable companion you can give up on, but you do not want to miss on her quests and her mission’s skill books.

Buying the game is the biggest mistake

As of the Rev 8 update, if you take the vehicle planet side you can be overweight and still fast travel to your ship; no where else, but the ship, yes.

If you are within 250m of your ship, you can bring up ship inventory and dump your over weight cargo (assuming you aren’t a load screen away)

Also, there are actually two ways to start the Crimson Fleet questline; getting caught is the “dirty” way. consider starting faction quests – particularly one associated with the faction targeting the Crimson Fleet.

Craft storage crates through decoration instead of buying cargo, pretty sure that’s the developers way of adding storage.

One like for the Snagglepuss reference.

Okay I didn’t see this one get mentioned, but… If you’re over capacity, just run anyway. Your O2 drops, your CO2 goes up, your health drops to 10%. Who cares. Just run. You can’t fast travel, but you can run as long and far as you want, as long as you don’t do the fighting. Or the personal O2 bubble thing once you get there, combine that with some alt-jumps forward and on all but the highest gravity planets you can just keep moving without losing health.

If you’re planning on taking ships, KEEP a few Ship Parts in your inventory.
When you take over a ship, it’s usually pretty beat up (by you). It also probably wasn’t all that awesome to begin with, but damaged? If you jump anywhere and run into hostiles, Jack you dead.

I started not noticing the Cargo hold, looted everything, got encumbered, so dropped everything on my ship floor. It looked like a horders nightmare.

This just made me realize something that could be very terrifying (from tip 1): imagine living in a universe where all the planets are just procedurally generated junk… everything interesting will only be in a few cities in a few planets in a handful of stars… truly the stuff of nightmares

I neglected the story to do faction missions and just got to inti the unknown at rank 25. Rip 48 hours without…. (no spoilers)

Gosh that woman was horrible to her son. What a sad story but oh so so real, some people are just like her and don’t deserve their children. I shot Todd in the bar as soon as I saw him. Don’t ask me why, I love the game but instinct kicked in and I had to do it, even reloaded a few times and repeated it, I don’t hate the guy but his avatar in game is the creepiest. I swear its creepier than the giant heatleech bones all over Mars. And yeah paperwork wall is not the most welcoming shit ever, we all hate bureaucrats and honestly I bet they hate their jobs too. I honestly didn’t know he gave a quest.

However, I’d just like to correct that Ship Parts are stored as Aid and not Misc. Personally, with ship and companion storage, as well as the drug pick me up, I never increased my weight lifting. The 3d models look so great I wanted to pick up everything. But everytime I’m overencumbered I filter All by weight and loom through the top heaviest items. You’ll see something like Ship Parts or accidentally picked up microscopes immediately.

Never outmatched had a level 38 and two level 18 bounty hunters come after me in my base razorleaf level 2 took a few tries but the key is Bull rush with your heavy until your weaker guns are in range and stay as close behind the highest level until you destroy it

Ship parts should be going straight into cargo, many parts would be too big to carry. Hope they patch this it’s stupid.

The Starfield Fast Travel is WAY too overpowered an ability to have, makes max weight limits useless. I found that whenever you get over your max weight limit, if you’re at any location on a planet, go ‘outside’ from any building you’re in, drop your heaviest stuff anywhere in a pile until you’re no longer over your max limit. Fast travel to your ship, and put everything you’re carrying into your cargo bay, then fast travel back to the spot where you dropped everything and they’ll be there in a nice pile for you to pick up and fast travel back to your ship again. If you’re far enough out on a planet that you’re not near a landmark that you can travel to, temporarily drop an outpost, and follow the steps above. Then you can just pickup the outpost again once everything is loaded onto your ship.

Number 4 is wrong…you don’t have to get caught at all…just join the Vanguard and start the Terramorph questline and you get a second mission that goes away from the terramorph line where you go to the UC Vigilance ship and that starts the Crimson Fleet quest.

Number 9, the guy in the Cydonia bar…honestly, on my 5h run through I have never even seen him…seen the Crimson fleet guy, seen the woman from the office at the bar with a clipboard questionaire quest…seen the bartender to buy special drink from for a sick girls quests…completely never even saw that guy.

Number 10…I think I completely ignored the main story for hours and I never took any companions with me unless directed to do so. They were bland, annoying, boring, insufferable and did I mention boring. In a later run I tried romancing Sarah which was dull as dishwater except for the end when I found a young girl surviving alone on a planet Sarah wanted to return too…finally, something interesting…but really, the main story is just so boring and stupid and Constellation are a joke…40 years they have been around and yet never found one of the floating rocks temples…yet there are settlements right next to them but Constellation know nothing of them…Or what about exploring settled planets…documenting resources and flora/fauna…but people already live there and work there…you think they didn’t do a survey first? Constellation are a joke, they sit on their arses all day and don’t know anything because they don’t go anywhere.

One thing I did find…do not finish the Freestar Ranger story before doing Ryujin…the way the Ranger quest ends will piss off the guards at…well that location (spoiler free). During Ryujin you are given two tasks…One to acquire a key card without shooting the person who has it…I have seen this person at Paradiso…at the Clinic and at…that location. And if you have finished the Ranger storyline then all the guards at that location automatically open fire the moment you enter the building…without fail…you will be fired upon. There is also a second Ryujin quest that…even if the keycard does not send you there…then planting the arc device definitely will and the same thing happens…you have to plant the device without being seen and that is impossible as every guard there will open fire the moment you enter.

How does that miss anyone in a bar? I noticed him instantly and thought to myself this is a mining town, this guy is in a bar not in a university bar for faculty, why is he here with all those stacks of books and paper?! I should ask. Interesting that people would miss that guy. You never see anyone in real life at a regular bar or resturaunt with that amount of paper work unless they are the owner or management at very odd hours or not busy. Or a faculty professor grading papers and taking their office hours and lunch and dinner in the university pub before meeting his fellow faculty in the early evening. Otherwise it just is not normal to see someone at a run of the mill bar with paperwork.

If you are over encumbered you can also use Personal Atmosphere. Then you can keep running, can’t fast travel, but you can run not walk.

The main mistake I made was buying this awful game.

My biggest gripe so far with Starfield is simply the way they did the planets and stuff – it’s basically a menu that leads to a flavorless environment (well, some of them seem ok so far but some like Kreet are very ..nothing.)

People criticized Elite Dangerous for having too many barren planets and stuff, but they did a FANTASTIC job of making you feel like you’re actually flying up to them, orbiting them, flying down to the surface and landing, getting out and walking, even if just to understand the scope of everything – you definitely feel so small in Elite Dangerous, and I still genuinely enjoy taking missions which take me into the gravity well of planets or down to the surface, because I get to do it all – I fly there, I fly to surface, I land, I get out and salvage (including cutting open containers etc) or an assassination or something – I get to actually walk out, break into the building the person is in, find a way to get close to them and then blast them and flee – it’s lots of fun if you’re into the immersive side of these.

I do hope Starfield manages to add a little more to it’s planet types, though, it’s safe to say the system by which you access them is not going to be changing, which is a bit unfortunate since this is basically the exact way Mass Effect 1 did it too. I am not really going to hold my breath for that, since Bethesda aren’t really known for introducing whole new biomes in patches outside of expansions, but for a game where you explore planets, that WOULD be pretty nice.

Pretty sure the thieves guild in one or more of the other Bethesda games would invite you to join them if you got arrested.

People who played the X series will probably take relatively well to the ship combat in this game, at least, regarding the mouse steering, which is pretty similar to it. Starfield seems to take elements from the X series and Elite Dangerous (the weapons/shields/engines power adjustment is nearly identical to ED – I’m not saying that as a bad thing, because I think that’s one of the things Elite Dangerous did the best.

Actually, I still think ED’s gameplay is the top of the top, in terms of the control.

This is kinda weird, I never had to get caught to get the sysdef recruitment.. I got the orders after helping with the Terrormorph invasion, he said it was a choice but you can do both assignments he gives you (UC faction)

I got the Secret Outpost note when doing the very first Constellation mission to go get the 4th artifact piece. And then immediately did that mission.

The reward for Into The Unknown is weak as hell. Don’t worry about waiting for that quest like he’s telling you. With my melee build I don’t even use the reward at all.

Overencunbered tip: You can sprint if you keep jumping. Or jump-boost-boost works great. Any time your feet are off the ground, your O2 meter stays put.
Also a way to go anywhere faster, because I’m impatient 😅

If you are caught with contraband just like with combat, spin up the grav drive and jump to another system

i feel like skipping the main story actually made my game feel way more authentic, like i will always be the same guy that completed the game and had all those interactions and stuff no matter how many times i replay so afterwards i can keep skipping stuff and it doesn’t feel wrong. but you only get 1 first go after that its not the same so its better to do it all first then do it again imo, part of what makes the game so good for me its really well done

You don’t have to get caught once to start that quest line. You can just join the Vanguard.
The Secret Outpost quest is okay. The rewards are outclassed early and the armor is probably the ugliest thing in the game.

If over encumbered, I’ve found it best to find a crate near the spot your at and load it up til you can fast travel then fast travel to ur ship to off load. Then fast travel back to that spot and collect the rest from the safe/crate

The ship parts are NOT stored in your miscellaneous it’s always stored into you AID section since it’s technically aid for your ship.

I did a stealth mission with barret i was in the vents and he was opening every door looking for me. Id pop out a vent in a room and he would go around and open the door with everyone following him

I got two ships out of the note. When leaving you find a class b ship that’s been boarded by pirates

#4 is wrong, you don’t have to get caught to get the Crimson Fleet questline going. The Vanguard commander will give you the quest to get into it once you’ve started the UC/Vanguard questline if you havn’t been caught doing something illegal

I’ve seen that contraband doesn’t get scanned if it’s on your PC inventory. Unsure if this was patched yet…..

Play every Bethesda open world rpg and take your companion into someplace with stealth and it’s horrible the best one to date is your dog from fallout 4 other than that nope don’t do it

Late but tip on contraband, just go to the den in the wolf system, no scans, and there is a trade authority on the den

For #5, Ship Parts are stored under Aid not Misc. in your inventory.

I’d say:
1. Learn to quicksave often. The game is horrendous about when to autosave, and you can find yourself reloading to a Very unsavory position.
2. Don’t just rely on Particle Beams. You can build amazing ship killers using missiles as secondary, or lasers and ballistics.
3. Make multiple loot trips to the Ship, and just drop all items on the floor. The Ship will Still launch.
4. If you Have contraband, use Neon as well. You pay a little fine, then just back up into the corner of the room with the containers where the Neon security can’t see you, and sneak down and steal. Then you can head to the Trade Authority there and cash in. Neons TA refreshes stock and credits almost every visit, Farrr more often then Kryx and the Den.
5. Assign Vasco to your ship Immediately. He’s almost like a secondary Companion in that if you land and their are hostile near, he’ll wander away to fight with you and your Actual companion.
Make outposts on planets high in Aluminum, Iron and Helium first as these are the most used building components.
6. Most aid items that don’t have a colored Triangle aren’t worth keeping. There’s a few like the Alien Food that boost Damage Resistance that are good, bot most that aren’t the Med or Trauma Pack or Emergency Kit are just wasted credits.
6. Some vendors only take certain items, so save them for those vendors when you land on their planets.
7. Give the Unique weapons to your companions. Certain Magpulse or Regulator uniques just Devastate enemies, so if you have one 1 hitter and your companion has the other, it makes clearing out areas Easier.
8. Invest in Laser related perks, and keep a Cutter. It can become the most OP weapon.
9. Get the Dream house or Kid Stuff perk. They provide resting places for relatively cheap – $500 a week for Dream house, $500 a month for your parents apartment. Also, don’t pay off the Dream House. You really only have to pay the $500 when you want to use it, it’s not recurring. And you’ll likely not use it enough to justify Actually paying it off, plus, you can stash contraband at the dreamhouse since there’s no scan at Nesoii.
10. Don’t worry about trying to buy the “best ship”, because you can spend 500k-700k credits on just a ship, and it be outclassed by the Frontier with just 300k and some perk investments in Piloting and Ship Design in the beginning of the game. Leveling up Both perks to 4 will allow you to buy ALL the best ship parts to turn your first and Free ship into a literal Battleship.

I find it funny bethesda stated the companion AI was sooo soo much better then in any of the ender scrolls or fallout games and yet the ai in starfeild still couldn’t sneak past a blind and Def person if given a chance😂 I would argue the followers AI in fallout were better in some ways . Companions in starfeild are worth the Lydia in heavy armor in skyrim😂😂 I’ve had 2 of my companions map pathing not work well and got stuck running to walls and other stuff and surten kinds of enimes pathing in starfeild are bluntly binchy worse then enimes pathing in skyrim by far. I have not beat star feild yet but all I cqnmsay from what ive played so far allies and enimes AI are not what was advertised by bethesda during their starfeild presentation earlier this year games fun and all but sometimes bad ai can cause more issues and annoyancel… bad ai had cause the main quest to become broken 2 different times preventing me from progressing the main story and becase new game plus requires you t9 beat the main story having the ai cause issues that break the main story I’ve been forced to start a new games 2 different times due to the ai ruining the main story line preventing any main story progress. Dispite it’s flaws I’d say it better the fallout 4 and skyrim and I’d rate starfeild a 9.5 out of 10 the only thing prevent it from getting a 10 is the Ncp’s Ai being dumb and breaking the main Story

For like first ten hours I found inventory management too brutal and almost quit. Then I realized I had like 6 shipm parts.

I’ll add, I bolted more cargo space on to first ship, and I never have inventory issues, really. Very nice.

There is a better method to get into crimson fleet – just joyn the vanguard, you get at that point the option to start the mission chain as well.

True story…I got caught w contraband when I took a Pirate ship, didn’t know it was there. I had to revert to a save from hours back and lose alot of progress trying to get away from that. I tried to take it to the Den and it was a blood bath with the UC there. Andreja divorced me, and took all my stuff too. SO check any ships you take for contraband.

I was doing the mission where you have to sneak into the energy company on brain for the pirates and Barrett wouldn’t leave so I tried taking him to the lodge, apparently I was in another quest line that was at a pivot ol point and had to fight and then go to the eye to check on the Black Russian guy. Well when I tell you I was pissed I was PISSED my boy Sam too the only person I had leveled my companionship with bro and his annoying ass kid screaming at me? This game is fucked up.

How I handle exploring planets is every time i come to a new planet for a quest I’ll explore a few points at 1 landing zone.
That way it’s just sprinkled into my questing and it keeps all the procedurally generated stuff fresh because you’re not over doing it. It also makes those side missions yield a lot more if you actually explore and scan some after killing a random pirate.

The over encumbered thing, THAT is me; forwarding, scanning, killing those who attack, loots everything as the “Lootmaster” I AM (if it aint bolted shut, it’s into my inventory) and when realizing I need to go back to ship I’m forced to slowly walk. To get time going I usually keeps eyes open for minerals I can gather while already over encumbered. 😊

Heres my tip, learn to walk lol then you can carry as much crap as you want. Thats how i play a bethesda game.

Just letting you know because it seems to be a common mistake in Starfield vids ship parts are in the aid section of inventories not miscellaneous or resources aid. Think of them as med packs for the ship and it’ll begin to click. Good call about remembering that you have them on you I’ve made that mistake a few times because you get caught up in further transactions and forget you haven’t put them in the ships cargo but I’ve learned from that anytime I’m near or over mass check aid to see if I forgot to offload ship parts.

One question the comics books you find like the grunts etc do the points they give you go on to your stats or is there away to read them like fallout etc

Note: Stealth is effected heavily on what you have equipped. Unequip everything piece of gear and weapon, and then stealth will be 1000% better. Not what you are carrying, what you have equipped. Bethesdra logic.

How do you get fuel for ship? Also how do you steal a ship?

My problem is I can’t go anywhere I’m sitting in a starter ship but when I look at the map everything says you can’t go there or you can’t scan that you can’t land here …I’m starting to think I waisted alot of money buying this game
