Like and comment for the algorithm! I liked caracal5’s first mod Crater 87 so much everything afterward is an immediate purchase for me. The little references to sci-fi like Alien and Starship Troopers is just icing on the cake for me.
Hello I am the creator of Lost Light.
About pricing, I would like to explain what goes into making these locations:
The total object count (which includes everything from credsticks, to wall pieces to enemies or light sources) is approximately 35-40 thousand for all six POIs together. Of which almost every single one is handplaced. Another thing I am happy about is that all of my locations have a lot of rooms of which each room is unique. No two rooms in my locations are the same. And most of my locations have airlocks of which each one is custom-built (there are prefabs for airlocks, however I don’t use them). If I would make just outdoor areas or interior cells I could avoid most of that, however I love the planet’s daylight flood into my locations. And every location is built from scratch, I never use basegame locations as a starting point.
I obsess over every square meter, how it is touched by light, how dirty it is, and how it fits architecturally into the location. For me, creating a 3 room house takes 5x the work than creating a 100x100m exterior area, because of all the detailing work per room to make it look realistic.
(I would also like to inform players who own “Old Secrets” that I am working on a 4th location. I plan to have it completed in a few days and then it may take 1-2 weeks for it to get approved which will hopefully add some value to players who felt it was overpriced). And when I have to decide between scale or detail I always go for detail.
Feel free to tell me what you think, written feedback is pretty hard to find, and I appreciate all feedback even if players do not like something. I think sometimes even angry feedback is useful because it helps me measure how irritated a player is by something.
About the credits, let me know if it is too much. It’s hard to find the right balance because I don’t know how often a player will visit a location and how much attention he pays to finding loot, some of the loot is a bit hidden out of sight.
If its ship parts or POI’s i buy it but i have to say this time too damn expensive. So its 7 dollars well hmmm…. that means its actually going to cost me 10 dollars thats not cool and then i have to decide what to spend my remaining 300 credits on because this Mod caused me to spend $10. Mod author 500 credits cool above that you better have a cool as reason to be getting close to Faulkland and the effort they put in. Dont get me wrong COOL MOD!! but cool or not its gonna cost $10 to get this realistically get it. This will be a probably not right now thing and maybe later..
I will say you say I will say a lot.🫤
I really liked the POIs. I couldn’t find the key for the “tomb” site. Won’t stop me from trying though.
Coffee time, that’s not too bad. Great video, nice review!
Eh, after realizing that you can sell Magshot pistols for like 3-4k credits each the presence of credsticks doesn’t seem to matter much. There are also vanilla PoIs that comes with guaranteed Advanced versions of certain weapons. So in those regards these PoIs fit in just fine. As for rooftop access there is a joke that “gamers don’t look up”. On a side note, the same applies to a secret area in the Lambent Street Rats mod: try looking up.
The pois look very well done
I would say price wise 1 per poi is a good rule of thumb for what I won’t hesitate to try. But I would say keep it at or under 500 credits. Even if that means saving 1 poi for the next mod. Going over 500 credits and there better be something truly unique or game changing.
I don’t really care about price as long as the mod is well made and fits within the lore.
Price is indeed what keeps me from trying these out.
Mod authors can not price it on the time they spend on it.
If I make a statue or drawing, there is a certain price point that I can ask for it to be able to sell it.
The buyer does not care if I spend 10 or 20hrs on making it.
1 mod author can be faster as the other making things, if you want money for the amount of time spend, get a job, do not do this.
