Starfield: Shattered Space DLC Review – Is It Worth It?
Is Shattered Space the game-changing DLC Starfield needed, or just more of the same? In this spoiler-free review, I dive into the pacing, story, quest design, and whether House Va’ruun’s mysterious world delivers on its promise. If you loved Starfield’s slower, story-driven side, this one might be for you—but if you’re chasing fast-paced action or classic Bethesda-style exploration, you might want to look elsewhere.

Glad you mentioned the quest helping the old man with his home. That was an extremely poignant story and I felt like it brought a lot of depth to the DLC. Can’t believe these creators were speed-running the DLC and claiming it was 4-5 hours of content. Just proves that they were never going to give it a chance. I’m going to have to try a play-through with the Serpent’s Embrace trait next time!
Glad I found your channel. You’re like an island of sanity in a sea of hate for an amazing game like Starfield.
I’ve been playing Skyrim since 2011, there hasn’t been another game that could replace it until I started playing Starfield on the 24th of may of this year. I stopped playing Skyrim ever since. This game caught my attention and it gave me a reason to never start another playthrough ever again because of the new game plus. The new creations that are coming out right now are a bonus to an already awesome game.
If you have Serpents Embrace and take Andreja you get a lot of special dialog, but unfortunately, Andreja doesn’t comment when you convert to Va’ruun. Major lost opportunity.
I really like that the action all takes place on the planet. Having a giant playground is a different experience that I liked. You play the whole thing without needing to use the starship to fast travel. I agree that interacting with the world’s stories is a great part of the DLC.
I’ll definitely play through it again.
I was surprised that certain secrets of the universe were not resolved. Maybe that will happen in a subsequent DLC.
I think the Main game has amazing storys like helping a little kid on Mars hanging posters and Gain a honest smile as a thanks or taking to a janitor about her boyfriend finding out she needs a Coffein kick . You get her the coffee and she really appreciate it . There is toons of those quest who are about natural human relations and i love them it makes the universe much more natural. Or the museum about the war with it’s Tour. Never had something alike in a game in terms of just feeling it makes the world realistic and breathing. For me Starfield is like the expanse but really expanded out in space a galaxy to get lost in. Can’t talk for shattered space for now i just went through the unity for the first time but a massive mission based game like this can take it’s time. Slow Story parts are good and even better if you can find out alot lore meanwhile exploring. Have fun with the game.
You’re the best reviewer of Starfield, your perspective is incredibly honest and actually useful. Imagine role-playing in an rpg?
I really enjoyed Shattered Space, too. Love all the new weapons as well.
Shattered Space gave me heavy Dune vibes; loved it
I love Starfield, was excited to play shattered space but when I started playing it I just hated it, hated the map, the colours and everything about it, even the buggy doesn’t drive properly on the planet, the missions just suck, and after about an hour, I exited the game and deleted it from my console for good

Hey you 🫵😡 yeah you Gaming Limbo…. Thanks so much for you input 😁 about Starfield a few vids back… Haven’t played Starfield in a year and recently got back into it with mods and I’m having a blast 😂👍
Lol nice hot take it’s crap
I really like Shattered Space overall and gave it a 7/10. For reference, I gave the base game 8/10, so I don’t like it as much as the base experience but I still enjoyed my experience with it a lot and plan on playing through it every time I play through Starfield.
My main gripe is the lack of reactivity in House Va’ruun at the end of the story and the lack of consequence if you choose to restart the Serpent’s Crusade. I didn’t choose to take that path in my playthrough, but it’s disappointing that even if you do, it’s basically a “game over” and you have to reload from your last save.
The best parts of the DLC for me are the characters, self-contained stories, and the sheer amount of Va’ruun lore you get if you talk to everyone and read all the slates. I’d love it if BGS took a page out of Shattered Space’s playbook and filled out the areas around New Atlantis, Akila, etc. with some more handcrafted POIs and stories to make them feel bigger and more connected. Regardless, I’m just over 370 hours in and counting, getting ready to begin my first new character/full playthrough since my original character from early access to prepare for the next DLC!
I’m (i think) about 1/3rd through it. I was assured by youtubers it’s only 4-5 hours long and is terrible, but I am about 10 hours in and enjoying it. Doesn’t add up! Not perfect by any means at all (nothing is). It feels very separate thematically from the base game. Which as a DLC, is probably about right. I am missing the base game a little bit. But I am happy with my purchase. More Starfield is never a bad thing. The thing that struck me the most is the quality of lighting. There are people at Bethesda that poured their absolute heart and soul into this and it shows, in my opinion. And I think it definitely proves that there are so many potential directions they could take the game in.
cool, thanx. I loved Shatered Space too, because of the naratives.
I’m hoping that the next expansion builds out the worlds that we already have. There’s so many different planets that them adding another for shattered space seemed ridiculous. Give us more reasons to want to go and explore the entire galaxy instead of just plopping a new planet and packing it full.
Great video!
I enjoy shattered space yeah I’ve been unable to play it due to it, giving me PTSD from surviving hurricane Helene.
The disaster depicted by the MPC is too real and triggers me when I’m playing that DLC 😂
I made a YouTube video about it since Bethesda depicts disaster quite accurately 😅 It’s a shame more people don’t enjoy Shattered Space but I get it
I felt like Shattered Space plopped a mini sci-fi Skyrim into the middle of Starfield; it’s one planet with lots and lots of sidequests and POIs. There’s just so much stuff in one place. And honestly, I didn’t feel like it improved things. Also I expected some cosmic horror but I… didn’t get any. Like, every Fallout game has some Lovecraft jammed into it, I thought Shattered Space was gonna do that in a big way.
I was disappointed, but that wasn’t because it was BAD – it was because I expected something different, something better, and instead I got this thing I didn’t expect. It’s fine. There’s nothing wrong with it. It’s even an improvement over the base game locations in a half-dozen ways people were complaining about. I just didn’t think any of those things were WORTH complaining about. I liked them the way they were. What Shattered Space offered me wasn’t something I wanted; it was things other people wanted.
Which, again, is fine. I just kinda thought I might get some stuff I wanted.
Audio’s sounding better limbo 👍
What did you think of Shattered Space?
Did the slower pace and deeper House Va’ruun lore work for you, or were you hoping for something a bit more… galaxy-brained chaos?
Personally, I loved some of the side quests (haunted orphanage? yes please), but I definitely missed my ship more than I expected.
