They need to fix the base game first! The game is boring, the dungeons are literally copy pasted everywhere, the armor system is a downgrade from FO4, the story is complete dogwater, and all the NPCs look like they were molded from playdoh. I haven’t bought Oblivion remastered and I have no intentions of buying FO5 or ES6 unless it is a complete turn around. 2023 kinda left a sour taste in my mouth with Starfield and Payday 3 under delivering. Since then I’ve been focusing more on indie games and been having more fun.

Forget this garbage. If you are looking for amazing “space, sci-fi” get X4. Offline, single player, insane sized galactic sandbox. Best part dedicated fan base drops incredible mods.

I played it on Gamepass and loved it. I was exactly a Bethesda game which I liked, but I get why people are tired of it too. What I can’t stand is the “blood in the water” hatred people give games. This article reeks of it.

Maybe this will teach Bethesda to, I don’t know, maybe actually listen to fan feedback when they are crafting the next Fallout title. Fans have been screaming what they want for years now. Lost faith in Bethesda at this point so I expect another shallow world full of predetermined choices in the same clunky game engine

    • @Zeroflax
    • 2025年 6月 17日 9:56am

If they removed the terrible ship combat and made exploration remotely interesting the game could be good. They literally just had to rip off No Mans sky, but bethesda is no longer a leader in innovation. Also the moment they tried to monetize modding they lost ALL credibility.

    • 2025年 6月 17日 9:56am

If this game didn’t have the Bethesda name and all the hype, it wouldn’t have nearly done as well as it did on launch
Really a shame that it turned out so soulless. There was potential for an amazing game with nearly infinite replay-ability

At this point I am expecting advertisements between zoning to a boss in Elder Scrolls 6. Bethesda always pushes the envelope of what companies can get away with believing they have a right to our wallets.

    • 2025年 6月 17日 9:56am

But fun fact, Starfield is not done, because it’s still barely beta worthy

    • @lhynn51
    • 2025年 6月 17日 9:56am

Starfield is a half-assed game built on an inappropriate & outdated engine that was shadow-dropped out of nowhere. Add in abysmal storytelling, shallow NPC behavior, terrible procedural generation, a total lack of support and an unjustifyably lengthy withholding of the official Creation Kit that made most modders flee the game in less than a year, and you get a 101 recipe for an industrial disaster. Starfield is a stillborn project that proved today’s BGS is only a shadow of its former self, which raises an extremely worrying red flag about the upcoming Elder Scrolls 6. It also proved that, more than ever at any point in time, Todd Howard is nowhere to be trusted and his name is done. Starfield is dead, and so is BGS.

I began playing EVE Online 14 years ago. I still play today. Like so many, I was intrigued by Starfield and I was willing to give it a shot. After a few weeks, the icon now sits on my desktop, untouched. The whole interstellar navigation thing was very frustrating. Really off-putting and clunky. It just made me not want to play. There’s huge potential for compelling storytelling. A pity I won’t get to see it.

This game could of been huge, hell they even could of just kept adding things maybe add more FULL planets eventually. But they diddnt do any of that. Honestly they could have done a lot of things with this even after they released it and yet they just sat on it. I haven’t played this game in 2 years and have already completely forgotten it until YouTube did its thing. Just like how I’ve forgotten it constantly since it was hinted at all those years ago

    • @eralar2
    • 2025年 6月 17日 9:56am

Starfield was such a huge disappointment for so many people, my guess is now lots of people won’t pre-order now, and just wait if a new game is really worth the hype. Let’s not forget that content creators don’t have the time (and often can’t play past some point in the game) to really tell if a game is good or not. With Starfield, the many, many downsides only become very apparent way past the point where content creators could not play before official launch (or at least from what I understand).

    • @kentmichael4147
    • 2025年 6月 17日 9:56am

Creations marks the end of Not just Starfield but Bethesda in General. Constant updates that they don’t even warn about which break mods which were nessacary to fill the gaps and close the holes in the gameplay and visuals. Bethesda makes a decent game, but when it realizes it has issue’s, the modders step in to fix it. That was the secret sauce to games like Fallout 4 and Elder scrolls. Which is why skyrim is still mod exploding to date. But their attempt to capture the mods so they could charge is catastrophic for Bethesda, They are bleeding heavily and don’t know they’ve been cut yet. I purchased, Fallout 4, Skyrim elder scrolls and Starfield. I will not by another. All these companies need to realize, MODS are the dominion of the player. If a Game company does a mod, that means they thought of something that should have been there to begin with. That means you want to be paid to fix what you didn’t do… Let it be a warning to ALL game developers. bring the game, put out to the audience their will be 2 or 3 updates and the timeline, stick to it, Then walk away, and let those who mod for the love of the game do their thing… A modder can place the mods they want, and if they want to charge they can I guess. But otherwise stick a fork in Bethesda, without a change their over in the next 5 to 10 years… OVER

    • @Aetrion
    • 2025年 6月 17日 9:56am

The problem is that Shattered Space didn’t fix any of the actual things that make Starfield boring.

    • @alexcardosa8079
    • 2025年 6月 17日 9:56am

Bathesda biggest issue is it has bad upper management, and no real writers that have an idea how to make conhisive lore and storie any longer. I expect more of the same for their next game, lets just hope they finally drop the dead graphic engine finally.

    • @voxel23
    • 2025年 6月 17日 9:56am

    • @Fiffelito
    • 2025年 6月 17日 9:56am

Paul Tassi… yeah, a hack and a shill and defends the rainbow mafia against any form of critique, just as that other hack Jason Schrier.
This isn’t some “revolutionary insight” or “grand revelation”, we knew this 2 weeks after launch… that was 2 years ago.
Just because he just stumps his foot into the reality from time to time doesn’t make him a good journalist.
We simply do not hate games journos enough, no not even when they tell the truth since the truth has been known for years and they’ve been calling us slurs in the meantime.

    • 2025年 6月 17日 9:56am

I love the idea of the game but where Skyrim had depth in alot of the quests, starfeild did not. Its like they rushed through alot of the quest lines. Starfeild has the interest but it didn’t fully deliver like Skyrim did. My hope is that starfeild gets a good revamp and that they take a lonnnnnnnnnggg time making elder scrolls 6. Quality quest lines Bethesda please! Lots of love for what yall do though.

    • 2025年 6月 17日 9:56am

Todd Howard said they planned at least one big expansion for Starfield a year for around ten years as is the plan for ES6 and F5. I doubt the next one is cancelled, but I would guess for them to hold to that plan and not walk away, the expansion would have to sell very well and one year is not much time to fix the pile of issues Starfield has, let alone deal with things that can’t be changed like the god awful main storyline. Bethesda might even delay it to next year because they have to go big with this expansion or I do believe the game is cooked. EDIT: Pete Hines leaving is good for the company and its ability to change as would Howard retiring. Pete is a known demonstrable lying a-hat and I’ve never met anyone that worked with him with a nice thing to say about him and I did work in the industry for years. He’s the one saying Arkane would be left alone to do what it did best because “Prey sold well. Not every game has to make billions of dollars”. He’s the guy in an interview that said “Yes, you can get out of your ship and walk in a straight line and go around the entire planet and return to your ship”. He said that knowing damn well that wasn’t even close to being the case. The guy’s a dirt bag.

Biggest thing that sucks w this game is the DOORS n loading…hence called loading sim..
in some areas i open a door every few seconds n game loads…
so couldnt they make a game for once whee a door could be opened n no loading(is that just beyond bethesda or what?)
Played through whole CP2077 w no direct loading at all….is for example starfiasko so much more demanding so it has to load in stuff for it to be able to play every few seconds in these areas???

if their next game has similar stuff w loading after every door= I WONT BUY IT!!
Who wants a game w 20% loading 50% gameplay n rest is as is!!

But will it ever get to be a more fun game?? ofcourse a few things was ok…shooting but seems to be to litle action n just traveling around(mayby later in game??)

So what would u call this game?? sci fi or what?

    Thanks

    • 2025年 6月 17日 9:56am

Corporate greed and corporate way of thinking is what’s untimately at fault here. Nerds used to make games for other nerds, now it’s nerds catering to shareholders. That’s ok, I vote with my wallet and support indie games that are way more fun that what big video gaming corps are making. Try Deep Rock Galactic, Hell Let Loose, X4 Foundations, Rings of Saturn, Kingdom Come Deliverance 1 and 2, etc. Plenty of good games

    • 2025年 6月 17日 9:56am

Starfield wasn’t bad. it was ok. there was some fun to be had. BUT they didn’t show it love and support and they treated it like it was GOTY while it clearly wasn’t. The final nail in the coffin was charging for mods. that was a monumentally bad and stupid decision.

    • 2025年 6月 17日 9:56am

I was disappointed with SF from day 1. It is the perfect example of why games should not be made by committee. How many studio’s contributed portions of the game? It is a patchwork quilt of software and it shows. I really wanted to like the game and I pushed the grind because people kept telling me that it gets better but it never did. Shattered Space, other than the weightless poi at the start, was a complete snoozefest. I actually fell asleep 3 times during the endless/boring dialog before giving up and not finishing it.

I enjoyed my initial 250+ hours spent in the base game, but I was just done after that and none of the 7-$10 quests Bethesda added to the game made me want to continue. I was interested in Shattered Space initially, but watching gameplay convinced me otherwise.
Now, the new game based on The Expanse–that’s going to be a must-play for me and likely erase all memories I had for Starfield.

I love Starfield, played the poop out of it huge hours, no doubt got my moneys worth, still play but not as much which isn’t a reflection on the game just the fact that you can’t play the same game forever. Some truly great mods have kept me playing this long and kept the game fresh. Starfield just hit the sweet spot with me, I grew up with a dad who worked for an aerospace company and my room was totally covered of pictures of rockets and space. The game was a bug fest when released, trying it’s hardest to melt my CPU because it was just so badly optimized, but they’ve fixed it and it runs great now. I do think they’ll have one more DLC in the fall about the Starborn, and if they don’t I’m sure a modder will make one since they doubled the size mods can be now, check out the Watchtower mod, it’s better than most Bethesda DLC’s . Darkstar also has a mod the redoes the whole game mechanics to make the game way more relevant to way higher levels. While I think Bethesda might lose interest in this game, I don’t think modders will and it will become something like Fallout 4 that people still play and modders still make mods for after all these years. I’m also OK with modders charging something for their quality mods, I want them to keep creating, I’m not Ok with modders charging for something a console command would do for free. If you haven’t played this game since when it first came out, give it another try because you just might enjoy it and it runs good now.

Imagine if licenses could be put together and you can have maybe 10 planets at most that you can fly to explore and the rest that you see is just for scenery, but here’s the catch. One of the planets home base is for aliens another planet homebase is for predators. Another encounter you can have as a cameo maybe Star Trek And then on the other side of one of the universes you could have Star Wars cameos….. and on other planets, you could have dinosaurs. 🤷🏼‍♂️

Starfield is ‘done’. Sure, it’s not topping Steam charts anymore, but that doesn’t mean it’s lifeless. Most of the player base is on Xbox and Game Pass, where player numbers aren’t public – just because we don’t see them doesn’t mean they’re not there.

I’ve played Shattered Space and found it atmospheric, well-paced, and thematically rich – some of Bethesda’s best writing in years. Despite the silence at the last showcase, Bethesda has a track record of supporting games long after launch.

And if the modding community is any indication of life, let’s talk facts: Starfield has over 10,600 mods on Nexus Mods. That puts it among the top 20 most modded games on the platform. That doesn’t happen with a ‘dead’ game.

Just because something isn’t trending doesn’t mean it’s over. For many of us, Starfield is quietly growing into something deeper.

It’s concerning that big studios are canabalizing themselves.

As more people spend money, the more money is spent on the next one to make it bigger and better.

I was never really a fan of Starfield, and I found it rather dull. But it DID have a ton of potential. Further updates, more DLC, fixes, etc could’ve made this game really good.

But because there wasn’t crazy strong numbers, Bethesda freaked and pulled the plug way to soon. Sad to see really.

It is frustrating that there is no one game that does everything you want. All of the science-fiction games I play–Elite: Dangerous, No Man’s Sky, Starfield, even Space Engine–all have elements that I like, but I hope Starfield is not done because I only bought it about four weeks ago. I bought it because I wanted a game where you could explore your ship. NMS because of the size of the universe. Elite: Dangerous because of the story, Space Engine because of the quality of the graphics. Starship Simulator, an independent developer game, is coming and that is going to wipe the floor with all of the above games.

But, in the brief amount of time that I’ve played Starfield, I’ve loved it. Yes, the loading screens are a little tiresome but there is so much good stuff to enjoy, particularly as I mentioned the ship, outpost and city exploration. My only other issue is that while I have an i9 processor, an RTX 3090 graphics card and 24 Gb of video memory, 128Gb of system memory and the game on medium settings, my PC still has a hard time running it. I can’t afford to simply go out and buy a new graphics card or processor, and I simply don’t need any more system memory. But for what it is, Starfield is a good game, probably 3.5 stars out of 5. x

Reminds me a bit of the Diablo 3 launch and how the game was basically cancelled after the first expansion came out due to poor sales. The remaining work that would have gone into a future expansion just got wrapped up and thrown out the door as small DLC, basically the same as the vehicles Starfield released later. They probably had that slated for a much larger expansion like shatter space, but after its launch, the writing was on the wall.

The biggest problem with Shattered Space is they tried to go back to what made previous games successful and shoehorn that in, instead of focusing on the *reasons* people bought Starfield in the first place. I bought a procedural space/exploration game and the DLC was a single contained map tile on a planet. What were they thinking?

How many dollars did you spend on the game? how many hours of play have you done? Work out hours by cost EG: 60 H divide by $100 = $1.66 for each hour played. Now go buy a cinama ticket for 2 hours watch time or go to a sports game for 4 hours. The game you own for life and can reinstall, the movie you watched is in the past along with the sport game. You don’t get your money back if it’s a bad movie or your team loses badly, do you complain .. no .. but a game that gives you hours of play for EG: $1.66 on a sliding scale thats lowering the longer you play .. hell yeah

From early on post-launch, it was very evident that there was too much fundamentally wrong with Starfield to make it fixable. The characters were pretty meh, lacking distinct personalities/opinions. The game had a story line based around NG+, but provided nothing to make a player want to play through it again, with no diverging quests, no impact on the world. The PoIs weren’t interesting, and typically repeat, down to the enemy and item placement. Boring factions with one city and maybe a town each. Enemies were humans with guns, humans with guns, humans with guns, and, oh yeah, we can’t forget the humans with guns. The leveling system, like with most Bethesda games, was meh. And so on. An exploration game with no reason to explore; an RPG with no compelling story, choices, or characters; NG+ with no reason to want to do it all again; and so on. The game was done then, and there was no saving it, but they were legally obligated to do a bit more. That said, does it mean Starfield is done done?

To that, I’ say no. Starfield is fundamentally flawed yes, but the ideas behind it have appeal. They were just executed very poorly. And so Starfield 2, a game that learns from all Bethesda did wrong, could work (so it’d probably have to be developed by someone other than Bethesda). A game with carefully handcrafted PoIs mixed with generated randomized ones, so we get both immersive and variable instances to explore, then that’s a step up. If itemization is tied to exploration, so again, we have a reason to explore, that’s a plus. If the dragon shouts are either scrapped or made into a bionic tree available to everyone, again, that would be an improvement. They need to set up the system so designers can make quests where players can impact things, be locked out of quests, and so on, Enemies need to feel very distinct from each other. And the Creation engine with its loading screens needs to go.

Basically, for Starfield, it felt like Howard had a dream of a massive scope, that 1000 planets, but not of a game, a fun experience that makes visiting those 1000 places worthwhile. And so they floundered about, trying to add game play to the scope, and just failed. If they actually start with an idea of a fun game to begin with, though…

The game is just so… Souless. Shattered Space needed to be like far harbor. It’s closer to a dead squirrel served on fancy china.

Mods are what make Bethesda games and The Creation club is more like _BEING_ clubbed (and then robbed).
The free range Modders are leaving like the game is a used diaper storage facility on fire.

The procedural generation was such an anus decision… Starfield was designed by a committee of finance bros then squeezed out of over worked underappreciated devs who CLEARLY wanted to make something else the whole time.

Makes me wonder whats next, TES6: Thalmor Cash-shop slotstravaganza the revenge of horsearmor?

I liked Starfield and still do but thought Shattered Space was pure trash. Ramming religion down a players throat was a horrible game design decision. To play the DLC you have to join the “Serpent Faith” which most people in the Starfield universe despise and so do the players.

I bought my x Box X for Starfield because I wanted the full experience. It was a fine game, but it lost its appeal with repetitive scenery, missions, and the flying of space ships it gave me vertigo. The voice acting was awful, the lack of emotion and personality range got tedious and boring. So much so that I turned the voice volume down and just went with subtitles.

I had a lot of fun with this game. Like 120 hours. I didn’t mind the loading screens or a lot of the things that people like to complain about. But marrying Andreja basically turned out to be my end-game. The settlement system was overly complicated. The “neverending story” aspect of the “+” progression seemed like it was going to be boring and repetative. I was done. Until Kinggath brings us Sim Outposts…

I remember when *_Starfield_* was launching and the super-hype surrounding it. It was the game that, supposedly, could not fail. All the bethesda fanboys were wrongly/incorrectly comparing it to *_Star Citizen_* , you know – #TheOneGameToRuleThemAll screaming, declaring & prophesying that it would be the #StarCitizenKiller🤣😂. Not only did it *NOT* phase *_Star Citizen_* *AT ALL* , it didn’t even phase the actual game that was it’s contemporary, *_No Man’s Sky_* . In fact the *ONLY* thing *_Starfield_* does better than *_No Man’s Sky_* is graphics (the more cartoony aesthetic of NMS graphics do turn a lot of gamers away).

The feature of being able to *MANUALLY* fly a ship down to the surface of a planet (and land) and launch from planet surface and *MANUALLY* fly back up into atmo & eventually outer space was really of a secondary concern to me because there are a lot of good Sci-Fi space game that do not have that feature and are still fun to play. For me it was the loading screens to just board and leave your ship. That was the deal breaker for me personally.

Poor decisions, overpriced mods and creation club crap they keep pushing. in addition there is no audio multilingualism, English is not spoken and understood on the whole planet Earth, only in some countries this also counts a lot when they want to sell their product, for example I completely stopped buying Ubisoft video games if Italian was missing in the past 90% of video games were dubbed in multiple languages, now with this fucking English they have really pissed me off, reading subtitles is not much fun in a video game

    • @timeshark8727
    • 2025年 6月 17日 9:57am

Starfield cannot be saved, not even by modders. It doesn’t need a new ship, or better looking weapons/characters, or a few new quests… it needs an _entire rewrite_ of story, lore and characters and a focus on building up a few planets rather than randomly scattering dungeons all over “barren” worlds.
Bethesda completely forgot what makes their games popular with this game… they seemed to want to make a story driven shooter with a little rpg and exploration tacked on to the end rather than an open world RPG… and failed at both.

Ubisoft catches a LOT of shit, most of it rightfully… BUT at least when they come out and their game doesn’t do amazing, they spend months if not years building it up. Ghost Recon Breakpoint, For Honor, even the newer Skull & Bones, all FLOPS at launch but Ubi stuck with it built it up — STARFIELD could have been incredible, but thanks to some of the WORST NARRATIVE content (so fucking boring) and some other dumb decisions, it was just MEH. It’s players who are making the game much better. Instead of improving it, Bethesda is just letting it sink.

Then I quit for a couple of days, When I started, I thought I had saved in the wrong place. I went into the building and realized it was the same building I was in the day before, different worlds same building, I mean down to where the ink pen was on the desk. I played a couple more hours then it dawned on me this game was shit, and I was done. The gaming gods must have saw a joke in the making and the controller I bought with Starfield literally fell apart. so I had a hundred dollar lesson to never pre-order at least from Bethesda. You know what’s really funny is them saying Starfield‘s done it isn’t done all you need to make is a really good DLC but you didn’t. You made a half ass DLC and I played it. you didn’t add any new ship parts you didn’t add any new interesting mechanics. You just made a big open area and I’m so tired of them but there’s a half ass shit that’s why I didn’t spend money on fallout 76. I knew that they were just gonna half ass everything on that game. The second I seen the trailers that were only live action and that’s all they ever show. And I already know elder scrolls six as fuck because they removed all the female armor from oblivion. They didn’t remastered it. They didn’t make it look better. They just put male armor on the females disgusting the person behind that should be fired and unifying the statues well, you can’t make a proper remastered. You have to fuck with the actual Look at the game and they were so gung ho about making oblivion habits, unique style but yet they neutered every bit of uniqueness when it came to females so am I excited for the next Bethesda launch no I’m not they made their bed and I’m going to laugh my ass off cause I’m not buying their next game. Starfield deserved better than one DLC.

And perhaps expand on orbital satellite stations and let people make those as well as making SPACE better.
There is a opportunity to NoManSky Starfield level of comeback here but it seems Bethesda maybe doesn’t want to, likely due to lack of in-house talent capable of doing it properly (they have talent, just not well organized and focused)

Great game overall, but with the gross amount of creation club items that are way overpriced, and only one DLC that was clearly content cut from the original launch, bethesda would need to put in effort and stop lying about the fact this was a total No Man’s Sky launch. The game was at many points empty, and they thought some dude from Sweden or wherever was going to convince gamers that we were dumb and that the “realistic emptiness” is what makes the game soooo authentic. There is tons of potential, but they were totally banking on the playerbase making mods to finish the game which is just a sleazy business practice, especially since they’re literally getting jealous of the higher amounts of positive feedback modders were getting so they decided to just break all the mods. Nobody is going to convince me it was a coincidence that the same exact day Fallout New London launched Bethesda would release a literal game breaking non revertable patch. The shamelessness lmao. Im still a bethesda fan but they totally need to either lower their goals to make complete projects that they can then expand on completed games post launch, or put all their focus into less active projects so they arent cutting massive droves of content and selling them as separate DLCs.

i own the shattered space DLC but never played it. i enjoyed Starfield I didn’t hate it but there is nothing to return to, it doesn’t have the ability like an elder scrolls game at replayability. I have never completed the skyrim main quest yet because I always get distracted by the game’s ability to let me just go off and find something to do. Starfield doesn’t have that, you can play it once and I include going to different universes as playing it once. But every time you get to a new universe it is the same story. You also lack the ability to just go off and do whatever you want like you can in any and every elder scrolls game because there was content to go off an do whatever you wanted. There just isn’t much to do outside the faction quests and the main quest. Yet in other Bethesda titles there is so many locations that you can go and just explore. Then get huge number of choices for what to do next. Starfield was a far more contained story and I just don’t have the desire to replay the story, partly because I’ve done it too many times with the multiple universes.

Bethesda has been busy with the oblivion remaster and now the rumored fallout 3 remaster and potentially a fallout new Vegas remaster to go with the new season of the show coming out.
I believe starfield can get updates required to become a great game at its core, but I also believe it will always need mods. I believe Bethesda will deliver eventually. I mean cyberpunk took over 3 years to finally be fun and even come close to delivering on the promises that were made. Let’s not write Bethesda off just yet

I don’t understand why Starfield is getting trashtalked and CP77 is praised… Both have flaws. But I found both games to be very similar when playing them. They’re very different though since CP77 delves more into the Cyberware Combat stuff in 1 big city whereas Starfield doesn’t have that but it’s possible to build outposts and customize spaceships. But atleast Starfield got me through the entire game. In CP77 I’m somewhat into Act 2 and I don’t get that “I wanna play this when I get home” feeling from it.

Idk I know both sides have their opinion but I don’t know why one is getting shit on and the other is praised when they’re pretty much the same game but with different depths (in my opinion).

I hadn’t played this game since last July. Turned it on just to learn one bug still has not been fixed. I have a Ryujin geologist and some workers stuck on my ship. Still there. Mission is NOT in my lists, period.

Also downloaded a mech feature for outposts, but it glitches the build function when I try to make it. It’s like Bethesda just figured mods would keep this crap game going, and gave up on it. Most decent mods are $10 a pop. Just no…

If Bethesda’s leadership(not the devs) had half the passion for this game as the leadership at Hello Games had for NMS… 😔. They showed what the game “could be” and then they said, no, it’s not that. Whether you like or not like the game, they delivered what they promised. Nothing more, nothing less. This is why pre-ordering are for simps. STOP pre-ordering.

It is plain and simple. Todd Howard and Bethesda( if I had to guess) counted on the modding community to pick up the slack and carry Starfield on thier back. The modding community kept Skyrim revelevant for years otherwise that game would have never lasted as long as it did. Bethesda has been soaking the modding community as a whole for years.

The only Bethesda ip I am even interested anymore is Wolfenstein and they will probably let that die.

I called this before it even launched. Starfield, as a Bethesda title, was either DOA, or it would barely survive its first few years because, let’s face it, Bethesda is a lazy, incompetent development studio whose visions far outweigh its technical capabilities or leadership quality. Skyrim was lightning in a bottle, and we’ll never see anything like it again. Not from Bethesda, at least.

    Good summary and coverage.
I can’t help but wonder if they looked at how the modding community has kept games like Skyrim, Oblivion, Fallout running, well past DLCs and content.
If I’m being honest, I played Skyrim for about a year. Modded Skyrim, I played for 6 years.
Fallout 4, I played for 6 months. Modded Fallout, I played for 3 years.
I’m wondering they felt like the modding community was going to “breathe extra life” into the game and keep the ball rolling.
Not defending this if that’s the case. Just wondering.

The major difference between Cyberpunk and Starfield is that although Cyberpunk’s performance was a glitchy mess, it had a solid game play loop and story. In contrast, Starfield’s performance was actually lauded at launch as one of the “least” buggy BGS launches, its core problems were/are the gameplay and story.

The reality is that with time, Cyberpunk’s graphical issues and performance were corrected, as they were essentially cosmetic fixes. Conversely, Starfield’s core gameplay and story can never be fixed, as that would require essentially writing a brand-new narrative with redesigned gameplay based on a modern game engine.

Ultimately, that is why Cyberpunk continues to live on through its patches, whereas Starfield is regulated to the discount bin of abandoned games, unsupported and soon to be forgotten.

I did a bunch of random stuff but I got bored and never finished the story. Launching @ 30fps was bad for the game and xbox, it made the game look old and also showed ( again ) that the “most powerful xbox” is not able to run their own games @ 60fps.

Todd Howard has to go. Fallout 76 launch disasters, then Starfield. Too many fanboys and fangirls worship Todd Howard as a god.

Not me! The product you create says a lot about how that person manages the company and the quality of its product.

I remember how disgusted I was when I saw the map of the city you first visited. This so-called map was from an AAA game company, come on! It was Todd Howard’s fault, and to me, it so how much Bethesda has a we do not care attitude. They will fix it later because they know the fanboys/fangirls would accept any B.S.

Elder Scrolls 6 is already doomed by Todd Howard’s management style and quality controls. I am not wasting any time on fanboys/fangirls hype. They see a screen shot of Elder Scroll 6 and they get horny as hell. As one fanboy said before the game was released, “Take my money now!”. He stopped producing Starfield content long ago Bethesda got its money.

Bethesda is some of the worst communicators. But I would expect more DLC. If like with Oblivion, they do what Todd actually wants, and has minimal announcement to launch. I dont know if its worth it, but I would expect a DCL each year until TES6. Sony showcase, then dlc trailer, available same day as launch to all players. I’d put money on it. No way they walk without another monetization option, even if it sucks. There’s still years out from a new micro transaction platform.

As a Bethesda fan of many years, I grew disappointed over the last couple of years. I played Starfield soon after launch for maybe 100 hours, then stopped. It was all very confusing and no good explanations available.

That has changed. Lots of excellent youtube videos are available on almost every aspect of the game, making it much more fun now. So eventually, I‘m back at playing it. And I like it a lot. Not all of it, but in open world games, you can pick your favorite stuff.

What is lacking, comparing to other games is

    – animation (NPC look outdated)
    – storytelling (compare it to engaging stories like The Last Of Us ore even Horizon) is not done well.
    – Repetitive content, like Planets resembling each other quite often, with the same facilities. Not unique locations, you would remember.

Still, I like the technical aspects, like shipbuilding a lot. And I‘ll keep playing it until maybe someday TES VI comes along …

Something held me back (probably got distracted to be honest) and I didn’t get to purchase. Then players reviews started coming in. Pointing out all the problems with the game. Bear in mind I’m a pretty forgiving gamer (casual, 2 kids, married, job) I’m not looking or expecting perfection, mostly just distraction and escapism. I started seeing the same complaints across the board from streamers, friends, etc and was glad I missed it.

What annoys me is why aren’t Bethesda adding to it and supporting it, the whole paid creations thing does not sit well with me. Yeah I’ve spent a few hundred on credits and have paid mods and watch tower but same old story things don’t work to well get issues with watch tower and crashing etc. I’m also not playing Starfield as much now, I’m taking my time else where Elsweyr lol 😜 🐈, I wish Starfield was more condensed and focused it’s still a whole lot of nothing. Just because people repeat things over and over, does not make it true. Starfield has tons if fans and is making mad loot off of the 1400 or so paid mods. That is roughly 10% of the total number of mods (all from the abandoning modders). Bethesda’s misstep is not giving the trolls the middle finger and going all in on the hardcore like Eve or more recently Star Citizen. No Mans Sky is abysmal, and I played Cyberpunk for a day before the controls drove me to drink… not everyone likes what you like. Starfield is done. The article is spot on with it. I got the game hoping it would be good. The only thing that kept me playing as long as I did was ship building and mods. But not mods I must pay for. Sadly the modding community gave up on the game early. While there are a few left with some skill, most have bought into the creation money grab.

Make up your minds toxigma fanboys. Almost sounds to me like they just wanted the game to fail and it makes me seriously question these peoples agenda. Not even ‘defending’ starfield here, just flat out stating what i’m seeing here.

    • 2025年 6月 17日 9:57am

A part of me thinks if Starfield just simply looked better, it would’ve been more successful. So much of what makes No Man’s Sky work is the planets, with their vibrant colors and dreamlike sense of eccentricity, they can inspire true awe when you’re on them and when you come upon a planet with those unique few traits that make it truly a wonder to just be on and explore. Every planet I found in Starfield was ugly as hell. It was muddy and not much to look at. Hell, the “Earth” planet is literally just sand. Bethesda games tend to have this sort of washed out look to them and it works for Fallout because everything is rustic and broken, but it does not work so well for Starfield, which should be a lot more adventurous and bright.

    • @Nitryl44
    • 2025年 6月 17日 9:57am

The main problem with Starfield is the Creation Engine, and more precisely its limitations.
You just don’t make that amount of empty planets with a 32bits engine. It also have a negative impact on all others aspects of the game. You can’t explore all of the planet you are on and you have just a small square to explore, it put a lot of limitation with the number of complex and massive objects on screen, its limiting AI in every way, it drastically increase the number of loading screens which destroy the immersion…
Beside the engine, the over-use of procedural generation makes all planets look the same, the outposts are the same, fauna and flora are redondant… and i’m not even talking about the story line which is so bad it feels it’s written by a teenager… It’s a disaster.

Man, back with Fallout 4I was a 110% Bethesda fan boy. I had thousands of hours into modding and 12 playthroughs of Fallout 4. Then we got Fallout 76 and I just felt so ripped off by them. That game was such an obvious attempt to “live service” the Fallout series and they sacrificed the absolutley perfectly built lore for that game. It completely killed my belief in Bethesda and Todd. I chose not to buy Starfield at launch and boy am I glad I didn’t. I would have loved to see it be a masterpiece and have jumped in on Steam a year after launch, but the whole “wide as an ocean, deep as a puddle” thing turned me off of it, along with all the identity politics.

MS is a 3.2 trillion dollar companies, they have “Zero” tolerance for not making their financial numbers. Even if you think it was the best game ever, they don’t care about that, they only care about how much money did it make with in a curtain time period. MS buying Bethesda didn’t give them a blank check, and I believe they made cut to save money. If you your are a small company you can fight to save your game, but when you get purchase by a big company, is just numbers now and if you don’t get them, you get gone.

It’s a dead game. Bethesda doesn’t have the awareness to understand where they went wrong with it, and that lack means they probably won’t be able to create any successful expansions for it. As such, further attempts to expand on it are probably also going to fail, and the franchise will probably die completely.

    • 2025年 6月 17日 9:57am

Starfield could have been great. But the entire game is like that quote from Bilbo Baggins about feeling like butter spread over too much bread. Bethesda’s ambition was too big. They would have been better off having Starfield take place in maybe 1-3 solar systems with planets with no randomly generated landscape. Another downside was that Bethesda tried to make a game that couldn’t be considered offensive to anyone. No real foul language, no really dispicable characters, and definitely no discrimination of any kind. They made Starfield feel like some kind of idealistic future. Spacers/Bandits don’t suffer from drug addition. There are drugs, but you don’t really see drug addicts. Not a signle spacer/bandit has had the idea to enslave people for gathering resources. Instead, they just loot and plunder abandoned military outposts. Even the Crimson Fleet are portrayed as “Rebel Bad Boys” instead of ruthless killers. Every established religion today has been erased, so it’s as if they never existed. Just replaced by Spiritual, Atheist, or “The space snake will devour the non-believers.” Why wouldn’t they mention how thriving religions like Islam, Christianity, Hinduism, and Buddhism are doing a few hundred years after everyone left earth? Could it be because a lot of those religions have certain negative views on the more…progressive gender and sexuality views of the modern day?

My biggest letdown was realizing how empty and utterly pointless exploration is. Land on a planet and find one of those Dogstar places with the robots. It was really fun the first time. Then you find another and you realize it’s a carbon copy of the other one. You find crashed star ships and think “Hey, wouldn’t it be neat if there was someone there in need of rescue? Nope, just the exact same ship copied and pasted acrost the universe. Every Research Tower is a copy of the rest. Same layout with identifcal enemy and loot container placements. The only variation is what type of hostile spawns inside. Maybe it’s spacers? Maybe it’s Va’ruun?

Then the DLC came out and it started strong. But then you see the Va’ruun settlement and everyone is dressed in black and everyone basically looks the same. No character really stood out to me. All the dialog was bland, and you just wanted to skip everything.

The only thing I really enjoyed about Starfield was the ship building. I enjoyed building a Class-C Star Ship that was basically a giant RV with guns and turrets. I”m mad about the game because this game could have been great, if they dialed back the explorable universe and ditched the RND exploration.

Why does Fallout 76 has continued support? Constant revenue.
Why ESO has continued support? Constant revenue.

What both of those games have in common? They are developed by BGS alone and they have to put in effort to get revenue out of it since they are online only.

Now what if, they just had made a tool that allows the Modding Community to fix their game and also passive generating revenue for BGS without any effort? I wonder if they would do that… Surely they wouldn’t damage their reputation for money? right? Coff.. Coff.. Horse Armor…

    • @Otinashi
    • 2025年 6月 17日 9:57am

It’s unfortunate. The game does have a lot of potential, the scale was just way too big. It is enjoyable for a single playthrough, and the “NG+” mechanic is interesting enough to fuel a second, but there’s really no reason to come back to it after that. And the DLC was just tragic. They listened to what players were asking for, but they just didn’t take nearly enough time on it. If they took that idea of isolating a campaign to a single planet and really took their time handcrafing everything, it could be really good. Unfortunately the initial overblown hate towards the game on release as well as the honestly pretty bad DLC was bound to lead to them cutting their losses rather than overcommitting to a failing product.
The difference between Starfield and No Man’s Sky is that Hello Games had all the time in the world to fix their game. They made a huge profit even with the state it launched in, and there were no expectations for them to produce another game so they could really focus all of their attention on giving players the game they wanted. Bethesda just can’t afford to commit like that. They’re already under heavy scrutiny over how long it takes them to put out games.
And in the case of Cyberpunk, there was a lot less that actually needed to be fixed with that game. Underneath the bugs and performance issues it was already an extremely solid game. Starfield would need fundamental changes to the gameplay loop and how content is dispersed

Me having watched people play Starfield: Starfields biggest SIN among many, was they took out the ONE THING Bethesda games had going for them: A handcrafted World to explore. Instead they gave us LOADING SCREEN SIMULATOR and Randomly Generated Content with very few places being Hand Crafted. At least the Ship customization was COOL I suppose.

The game overall just feels…. outdated and generic. Otherwise known as a Bethesda game, “features” included.

I see potential in this game, which I invested some hours in, and I pray and wager for them to do the right thing. • 2025年 6月 17日 9:57am

I think they got the in-world aesthetic bang on, and I really enjoyed the gunplay. I quite liked the ‘universe’ they built.

If Starfield came out in 2013 it would have been mind-blowing … but for a 2023 title it feels like a relic of yesteryear. It’s not like we’ve never had a game like this, with the same sort of scope, against which we might receive/judge it …

Loading screens, and cutscenes hiding loading screens.

No in-atmo flight, no landing/docking/take-off. No seamless exploration. Not enough variety in POIs (I liked the walking and exploring).

The gear upgrade mechanic was a step down from Fallout 4 – no ability to remove/replace/store mods.

The storage and inventory management was from the mid 00s.

They could have gamified landing/docking, kinda like Elite Dangerous’ landing pads.

They could have procedurally generated POIs instead of the same few dozen templates.

If a small indie dev team like HG can make seamless exploration, why couldn’t a massive studio like Bethesda?

Claiming ships you’ve raided was an absolute pain, and the ships sell for the same as a high end space suit …? Come on! Gamify captured ship transponders (a hacking mini-game?) to transfer ownership and sell for a decent wedge?

Gamify star system planets/POIs in space (maybe like ED?).

Gamify scanning for planetary resources (like Mass Effect/2/3).

Aquilla wasn’t a city, it was a hamlet.

    New Atlantis was completely underwhelming.

The ship builder was one of the best I’ve ever used, but they could have made the ship modules more impactful on stats. A few of the modules had banks of crew stations, let me hire crew to fill those stations which further improves ship stats. Why do ship ‘cosmetic’ parts add weight but not hull strength?

    The ladders!!!

The more I played Starfield, the more disappointed I became … coming to loath its shortcomings and the decisions behind them.

I bought the version that included the Shattered Space DLC which I’ve never even installed, let alone played.

I don’t think you can ever rule out a big game. It may be done …for now, but you never know when some new CEO may decide to go back and revive some older games. Does it disappoint? Yeah, I still like the game, and, while I don’t play with regularity, there are just some times I like to have a beer and play some Starfield. Do a project, set up a planetary base, run a few missions and just chill. It’s a good game. I think so many people just wish it had been the game of their dreams. Even Skyrim, one of my all time faves, is just a game I come back to from time to time (truth be told, less than Starfield). We’re always looking for the next game to play. Right now it’s Eve online, next month it might be ESO, or maybe Elite, or Helldiver. Starfield is still in the mix for a lot of my friends. You can’t really ask much more than that of an older game.

Take this entire game. jam it into a single solar system. 5 planets at most. give the player an orbital ship to act as the players hub. add pirate ship style defense missions and paid crew members and companions. leave everything else the same and it would of been a fantastic game. but the surface exploration and the lack of any real substance just killed this game. played from start to end and the game is great until the 6 hour mark, then it is the most stale game I have ever played. so much potential.

I think Starfield is a dead IP. It could have been the Mass Effect 1 of a new franchise, but they messed up the world building, the story and the characters. Adding space magic to Starfield was a mistake. I doubt that Bethesda will make a Starfield 2. They can’t have a similar path to Hello Games because they are part of Microsoft, so there is this huge corporate structure that blocks any kind of innovation or originality, every single thing has to get the approval of the higher ups.
As for Cyberpunk 2077, CDPR managed to change the narrative with the DLC but the main game remains crap.

i’ll just stick to the jank that is Star Citizen. while janky, when it DOES work, the game’s great.

starfield needs more poi’s on planets and a greater variety of them, maybe sub quests found whilst out there too, the loading game simulator though helped killed Starfield I was a bit pessimistic about starfield prior to it’s release due to the later bethesda games qualities and it was worse with all those loading screens, and unfortunately without the massive free moder support that comes with both their other main titles it was not off to a good start, the copious amounts of bugs that still remain from day 1 ,don’t help and a way to empty universe failed to engage players, and without their engatement a lot of the bog modding comunities bypassed it. they had a good idea but failed to implement .

I recently started playing Starfield and I came in with scepticism because I was convinced by the critics and most of haters that the game was bad. I wanted to see that for myself and know where did Bethesda go wrong. I am a Skyrim player since 2011 and never played other games since it came out. While everyone was praising Baldur’s Gate 3, Elden Ring, all the other good games that came out. I was still playing Skyrim because there is no other game that captured me better than Skyrim. I now have 68 hours into Starfield and for the first time since 2011, I actually stopped playing Skyrim. I can agree with the article. Starfield is done. It honestly doesn’t need any more content because it already has everything. Starfield is one of those games that doesn’t even need a ton of mods, so I can understand the modders not wanting to support it because it really doesn’t need any unless you have the creativity to apply more to the game. If Bethesda does plan to add a DLC, then it’s just more icing in the cake. Starfield is a lot of fun and I am upset that I believed a lie. This is the first and last time I would believe a content creator and negative feedback. Put your money where your mouth is and see for yourself if this game is good or not. If you don’t like it, return it. It’s that simple.

Bethesda have they proper show case to news.
This becouse they dont want put a shadow in The Wother Worlds2.
Last month they talk a lot about Watchtower Mod DLC.
To me here in Brazil they need LEARN with No Man Sky community to create a huge world comunity.
Also ask for a lot payment about a mod its hard to us, but good to modders can work trully in the game. Better than wee see in ARK Ascend.

Also ES6, Indiana Jhones are the focus now.

But I can be wrong whey they dont do Starfield like No Man Sky did after that disaster launch.

I hope more starfield Bethesda DLC coming or they can put all us on fire, saying a new Fallout and Starfield are in the, forge.

I haven’t played the game since the week after release of Shattered Space. I was a big supporter of the game as a whole, but after that DLC, my rating has dropped to sub 3 out of 10. There was too much that got messed up with that DLC, like the fact that if you pick the Serpent Embrace trait, and show up on the planet with Andreja, you are met as 100% outsiders, with no correlation to that trait ever being mentioned. The ending had no option but “take this path”, with no deviation to change it. The storyline was not even luke warm, and there was no sense of accomplishment after completing it. Sure you could have sone things in the story to change how it played out at that time, but it didn’t matter at all at the end.

I did not mind star field, I played it at release and had a lot of fun with the ship building and combat, not many games allow ya to do both of those with out severally hampering your ability to turn your cargo freighter into a pirate hunter gun ship all in on lol, its not worried about forcing you to be either or, and I like that. But did not care much for the ‘story’ and the planet exploring was…. rather meh, very samey. Would love much more work done for the space end of things but I might be bias there.

My biggest issue with Starfield was that you had to go through the game 10 times to fully level up all the starborn powers. Even if you skip the story on playthroughs 2-9, stars still at least 20+ hours of pointless playtime. The f they had made it so you could get the powers up to level 5 in play through 1 and up to 10 in playthrough 2 it would have been so much better. I really enjoyed the game but it kills your desire to keep playing knowing you have to do the same thing 10 times to get to full power.

After 8 hours of Starfield, I didn’t just give up on the game. I sold both the game AND my Xbox Series X on Facebook marketplace.

I wanted to like it, and tried to give it an honest chance for 8 hours of total playtime. Unfortunately, if it takes more than a full workday for a game to be fun, it’s just not a fun game. I was trying to do a main quest, and needed a shotgun to kill an enemy that was an absolute bullet sponge to any other weapon. None of the stores I had access to at that point in game had shotgun ammo in stock, so I went around the galaxy to gather the resources I needed to craft it. When I got into the crafting menu, I learned I couldn’t craft anything until I completed a “research project” that would then unlock crafting of that specific item. Oh, and this “research project” would take more resources than the actual crafting process. Also, one of the main pilotal moments in the story is just you in a spherical 0-g room floating towards a shimmering glowy spot in that disappears and reappears across the room dozens of times. This sequence has zero dialogue and goes in for 15-20 minutes. It was at this point that I gave up on the game. If it locked actual story progression behind tedious fetch quests and crafting mechanics with more layers than a Smith Island cake and 20-minute sequences of chase-the-shiny-thing, it just wasn’t any fun. Games should be fun. Starfield wasn’t fun.

If Bethesda doesn’t release another dlc then Bethesda is absolutely finished.

Space Game plus NO JOYSTICK SUPPORT=failed Space Game. Probably.

BUT… When you exclude joysticks from a space flight intensive game, you lose the space sim players to all the other space adventure games that include joysticks. The space adventure players would have never stopped playing Starfield if the game had joystick support, because with joystick support you could argue Starfield was the best of class Space Adventure game. BUT… no joystick support drove that massive group of space game players away from Starfield to different space games.

In the end you either fully support all the options for flying a space ship or you should not include flying space ships at all. I think Bethesda understands Skyrim style games very well, but had never played enough Space Adventure games to understand the difference.

Starfield has a great basis, but what makes it Science Fiction? Seems like Bethesda was still forming that part of the game. Maybe dump in a random intelligent alien race from time to time, either friendly or hostile. Starfield needs to go somewhere or it is just Fallout 5. Give us intelligent aliens, even if they are not fully understood. Their origins and purpose a mystery for now, except maybe they have missions with rare alien tech as a reward for your avatar or your spaceship. Just imagine what might be found out there. I could tell them what to do as well as thousands of other sci-fi readers.

Good luck, Bethesda. I hope you figure out what Starfield could become like you did with Skyrim.

I was so hype for Starfield on launch. I hoped that it would be the chance for Bethesda to get away from Elder Scrolls and Fallout ( both franchises I love dearly btw) and develop something different and fresh for the studio. The loading screens didn’t bother me but what did was they wanted to build the BIG space game and they overstretched on the amount of planets to the point they felt all too similar and neglected what we all love about their game which is the handcrafted beautiful setting and world building. • 2025年 6月 17日 9:57am

Starfield’s NASA punk style is amazing, and I honestly didn’t think the game looked bad. It’s perk system for leveling was nice too as it required you to use the weapon to level it up and upgrading speech perks like Bribe and and such made them show up in dialog like you were actually learning.

BUT, it was everything else. The story had maybe 2 good moments with horrible payoffs and even worse Newgame + dogshit. You can confront the person who is the Hunter in the first playthrough and it literally ends with a “Oh you know? Best it’s left there” AND NOTHING ELSE FUCKIGN HAPPENS. Even when you start a new game not much happens with it. If you get the NG+ that has versions of yourself leading Constellation you can’t really question them or do things with them. The game doesn’t allow you to be evil in really any way and the world building is disjointed and weird. The game didn’t need all these useless planets and a simple 50 (Or even 10) would’ve sufficed. The weapons felt on the low end, bring back leveled tier loot meaning you will never get the best version of any weapon unless you play NG+. Not even the weapon smithing perks let you upgrade weapons. There were no special looking weapons that could only be found as legendry’s. The companions were all boring as hell beside VOSCO, the nonimportant companions seemed to have better backgrounds and stories than the main cast. The Starships were a nice surprised as they felt like they had some effort put into them, but you still had limited control on room placement when it came to doorways so sometimes the ship would turn into a maze. The Ship was nothing but a glorified fast travel with nothing involving it outside or side and story missions. YOU HAD A BRIG and you couldn’t even bounty hunt and take prisoners. The base building also somehow felt worse than Fallout 4, and that wasn’t that bad. But the camera controls felt worse, the buildings felt bland, and it didn’t feel like you were even creating an outpost.

The game could easily be good, hell I bet you someone could come along and do this better as an indie team. With how pathetic this game was, being Todd’s newest baby, I have no hopes for the next ElderScrolls. If Bethesda really wanted to show this wasn’t a fluke, they should be working on the game and releasing free updates. Not expecting modders to do their job

I have hope for ES but starfield is just such a massive throbbing miss of a game. From 3rd grade writing, empty lifeless feeling universe, and excessive amount of shallow systems to engage with in game to the repeat content after only and hour of playing the game. It just isnt a good game in any sense of the word good. UNLESS you mod it, and then its not reviewable on its own merit anymore.

It’s truly unfortunate but this is almost assuredly true. When Starfield launched, I was hooked. I loved the premise, shipbuilding, and so much about it. Despite launching in September, it quickly rose to my second most played game that year, and by far my first the next. Despite this, I practically stopped dead outside shipbuilding. After numerous runs through the universe, I came to realise, it’s incredibly shallow. It’s all bones and no meat. It introduces so many interesting potential threads and… just doesn’t follow up on them. I’d LOVE to see a CP2077 or NMS rebuild and reinvestment but it’s absence from the shows would discourage this hope.

    • 2025年 6月 17日 9:57am

I think the problem with starfield is people have been looking for a game like this for decades, it’s why EVE online is still chugging away, people remember playing games like freelancers and they are looking for more and it’s quite a starved market, also oddly sci-fi based games are not a common thing, for every 100 fantasy based games like your dark souls you may find a single sci-fi/space based games this is why starfield had such a bump at the start but you need more than that bump you need something that can hook the player and for that you need a good story told by either some fantastic writing if it’s a non spoken game or some great acting this is where Cyberpunk passed with flying colours as I can’t judge male V but the actor of female V dis an amazing job and she wasn’t alone and good actors can do wonders for a script or you can go for the other hook of fun engaging gameplay (if you can do both all the better) and starfield missed both of these hooks.
