I am so hurt by how bad Starfield was. I don’t think I can trust another Bethesda product past 2022.

What this game needs is a complete revamp of the exploration system. I.e a massive increase and variety in the number of possible places of interest. It’s boring going to 10 different planets when all of them have the exact same abandoned robots factory or abandoned research facilities with the same loot locations in the with the same enemies with the same layout. Need to make more possible places to find and to add variety to the existing ones. Not every robot factory has to have the exact same layout, make 10 different variations of the robots factory and make the loot variable with different locations. Also make larger places of interest!!! A place of interest doesn’t need to be limited to only 100m2. Make massive abandon factories or research facilities ect.

They need to change their design philosophy and their writing. I think the boat on releasing games incomplete then charging us as the customer to complete them with DLC, that more than likely is cut content, has very much sailed. For the supposed/alleged 10 years that this was in production, I would suggest that all of the coding got done in 3, which wasn’t enough time. Writers such as Emil Pagliarulo need to be put out to pasture.

Let’s not forget that Bethesda really started the AAA rot of selling cosmetic Microtransactions with their horse armour. This is the company that got all of the old guard doing shitty things to gamers over the past 15 years or so.

Whilst I like the ideas in their franchises (and I think everybody does to some degree), we are over this corporatisation of fun. We need to start enjoying the gameplay loop because gaming is about fun. The world in many ways is rather dire in many places right now. Games are escapism. These big corporates are really impinging on that fun by political and ideological sound bites.

I really don’t like how Bethesda seemingly drop all interest in their game once they have been through the cycle. People are playing the shit out of Fallout 4 right now. I have been. I’ve taken a character over level 100 and still haven’t finished the game yet. I’m getting a lot of fun out of Fallout 4, my settlements are growing. But there was so much more that Bethesda could have done for that game. They dropped it far too early. They have got to the size now where they need dedicated teams on dedicated franchises. They can’t keep switching from universe to universe. It’s not healthy.

It’s still a Bethesda open world game. I really feel like players are over the Bethesda Ubisoft bigger = better slob.

I’m not coming back, bored as hell (NG+ destroys the immersion of the game and you give up), played in game pass for more than 1000 hours, finished the game multiple times, no point of coming back. Rather replay Fallout 4, but for now I have other games to finish, like KCD1, Witcher 3 NG+ (I believe you lose half your points but keep some armour and weapons).

Starfield was a good idea ruined by limited engine. Shame… So anyway i tried star citizen and even being a buggy mess, there is no way i would go back to starfield even if they pay me daily

I don’t get why so many people WANT Starfield to suck. I get you’re disappointed. I am too. I bought it to play early and everything. And it sucked. Sucked hard. It had the Bethesda framework. I like their gameloop style. And I could see it here. But they dropped the ball with the world design. It should have been just a few planets with way more detail. My list of changes goes on. But every time I hear Starfield news. I’m HOPING for something to save it. Everyone just wants to troll and be negative. I get feeling burned but get over it. We want good games. Stop dwelling on the past and look to the future. The new DLC might be Far Harbor 2.0 or, it might be Horse Armor. I expect the latter. But I’m genuinely hopeful for the game. I would like to play a bad ass space adventure in my custom built spaceship that I can land on my cool space base

At this point, I’ve probably spent 50 dollars on paid mods. Mainly quality of life, mechanic expansions, and quest stuff to make things less boring. Even though the game is in a better state for me now personally, it really isn’t worth paying modders to fix what should’ve been in the base game.

I am doing a brand new playthrough of Starfield, but to spice it up, I modded the heck out of it and added a ton of new quest mods and such. Having a lot of fun so far and the graphical mod enhancements really made space and cities so much more real looking.

Starfield is basically No Man’s Skyrim, except it chose to choose the worst of both worlds. It’s actually quite an accomplishment to put out a game YEARS after those two games and think “yeah, gamers are gonna love this bland and boring mess” another 10 out of 10 Todd…

The only way I would buy this on PS5 is if they somehow supported fan-made mods. I would say that’s impossible except BG3 did it.

I’m glad everyone finally sees Bethesda Game Studios for what they really are. After Oblivion you couldn’t say a word bad about them without fanboys jumping on you.

Honestly they need 3 DLCs in my opinion:
1. Open Skies – improves flight to be able to go on and off a planet or at least fly between planets without menus.
2. New Frontiers – add TONS of new pops to the random gen, like THOUSANDS, plus random generation to some of those to create tons of variation. Plus more custom built areas to planets.
3. Factions – improve the world building, give us bigger cities and more of them on the home planets for the major factions.
Extra Credit – Dark space: add some crazy alien race trying to conquer the galaxy for a final story built around the star born.

Its worth mentioning that all the No Mans Sky updates have been completely FREE! Bethesda try to nickle and dime you for everything at every opportunity.

I think the game is better than it seems at first glance. Hear me out… I’ve just hit 1000 hours but I also play with 5x movent speed and I still haven’t seen “everything” yet. To understand…. I turn off medpacks, broken legs and reloading and blaze through the game at lightning speed. The story and environment are the only things I’m looking at and there are so many hidden levels to uncover. On top of hidden “Starborn” conversation options in NG+, there are also MORE surprises for completing the game with specific combinations of choices under your belt. Adding thousands of pop culture references and MODs only sweetens the deal. The game appeals more to people that notice these references and are thorough enough to find them. It’s a different kind of Bethesda game but they’re still Bethesda. I have no doubt that Fallout and Elder Scrolls will deliver the gameplay people are looking for but Starfield isn’t going anywhere. That being said…. there are also about a thousand things that could’ve been better. Hopefully we’ll get some fixes.

I completed a playthrough of Starfield back in ’23 and I was largely underwhelmed. I tend to focus on main quests with whatever side quests catch my eye.

However with my most recent playthrough, I’m treating it as a walking simulator and having a much more enjoyable experience with it.

I don’t understand there would be any debate. The issue of Starfield is at its very core. It is a mid game and nothing can change that.

They need to start introducing alien races. There should be some kind of first contact storyline that leads playable alien races. Should have been in starfield from the beginning, like an actual skyrim in space with a selection of interesting alien race types in character creation and rich alien space lore, instead of this boring human only fallout in space.

There is no DLC that coumd save this game.

Before Starfield launched I was a staunch Bethesda fanboy. My playtime in their games is measured in years instead of hours. I was giving Bethesda so much slack for their disastrous Fallout 76 (which I totally fell for) and I was sure that one disaster did not make a company bad.

But then Starfield was launched. I had it preordered and pre-installed of course. I tried so hard to like and enjoy the game but I never managed to even finish a single storyline much less finish the actual game. The only thing I enjoyed was redesigning ships but the space combat wasn’t anywhere good enough or immersive enough to make fighting them actually fun.

After about 30 hours of playtime, I uninstalled.

Meanwhile I’m still playing Skyrim almost 25 years since launch.

They probably made that decision in a couple of months

I recently jumped into a fallout 3 play through after like 3-5ish years of a break. And I realized something that they need to add. The game has no gore or mystery and it doesn’t make me jump do to an alien or something jumping up at me. Like the rad roaches or the bloat flies or any other mechanic that exists in there original games. Since they cut the gore because of some lame reason I think really killed it. And it’s sad because the opening to the game when you have to land and the crimson fleet attacks you and there’s the leaches in the beginning with the blood. They need to take that and place that around the game. Just make me want to explore space not just the 5 lame cities with no creativity.

Witcher 3’s expansion: Blood and Wine-by itself-is better than Starfield.

If Starfield had released in 2018 instead of FO76, I think the discourse would have been far more favorable. Even if it was smaller in scope and clunkier. Starfield in 2023 is just out of touch. And with the talent exodus in the last 5 ish years, I am concerned with their future.

I actually really like this game. I hated it for so long that I never bothered to play it, but once I was in the mood for essentially Bethesda Mass Effect, I fell in love with it.

i love base game starfield more than the average person but the first dlc was really disappointing. the 2nd dlc needs to overhaul the game, on top of a ps release. or else starfield has zero hope.

Why would they not offer a competition to modders to take a moon in the game, and create a Skyrim, or a zombie world etc. or a place where all the npc heads are huge. Give a huge prize to 1,2 or 3rd place. Why wouldn’t they shadow drop random events on random corners of a planet or moon, like a planet where it’s just full of beast attacking the moment you land, like a horde and in the center there is loot?

The fact that you can’t freely travel around and explore in your ship is ultimately what caused me to lose interest. As for the dlc, it just didn’t hold my attention. I know it was likely due to time or budget constraints but I couldn’t wrap my head around the fact that one of the major factions of the game wasn’t part of the main game/story.

Starfield won’t win back most players because it can’t change those core mechanics that we found so disappointing. There’ll still be space combat in boxes, no real space travel and no real exploration. I think Todd did take too much from No Man’s Sky, but to me, he became enamoured of the tech while fundamentally misunderstanding that game. It’s not an RPG and while it has much more bling now, underneath the hood it’s the same game as it was on release.

If i were microsoft, i would lock bethesda employees in a room for several weeks. Each room playtests a seperate game feature:

4 in a player ship
4 on a uninhibited world able to freely explore
4 for each world with a city in it
4 on a random planet who can only use the settlement creation feature.

Being forced to only interact with just one of the game features would shine a spotlight on how boring and lacking in actual gameplay mechanics these features have to offer.
Bethesda constantly tries to justify starfield being boring cuz its meant to be realistic but realistically, you’re meant to be able to live in your ship for example for days or weeks but in game theres nothing to really do or interact with to keep you busy. So you just teleport constantly, never interacting with your ship or even piloting it for the majority of the game.

I love space and science and still have no interest in this game lol it will take s lot more than dlc. they need to do something on level like no man’s sky

I’m not coming back, even if the next DLC comes with free handys, unless it *also* fixes the base game. That is to say, all the fake dialogue options that all force you to the same place, the dull as hell nightclub, the ridiculous “city” that is like 8 businesses and 30 loading screens, the recycled radiant quest encounter areas, and so on. I need the next DLC to actually make the base game good. If they’re just piling ice cream on top of a garbage pile, then I don’t want to eat the ice cream!

Shatter Space made people who liked Starfield, realize how not good the game was. I enjoyed it the original game, and my original run, but going back to that DLC just showed all the problems it had clearly and how they just can’t fix it. You need a sequel to fix the game.

I’m playing it on a pirated copy on my 4070 super + 13th gen intel and I’m not gonna lie, the graphics on max are TERRIBLE. The game DOES NOT look the way it looked in the trailers and press copies. I haven’t started the DLC’s yet but from everything I’ve heard I’m not entirely excited to start them

The bethesda formula is just way past the experation date. It was stale on release. I have very little hope for a new elder scrolls. I dont think bethesda is capable of course correction at this point.

I played about a thousand hours of Starfield (doing what, you may ask) but I didn’t even bother with Shattered Space. I’m not that interested in the Varun or whatever they’re called. I just like exploring and mindlessly doing missions or doing the NG+ thing going through the main story over and over. Give me way more open world content: more points of interest, more repeatable missions, more ship and base building stuff, more reasons to explore.

Seriously!!, this game is dead, just burry it and forget about it. There is only between 2000 to 4000 players on Steam when there is between 12000 to 16000 people playing Fallout 4, a game from 2015 and 18000 to 25000 for Skyrim.

The game needs an update on the scale of CP 2.0 (even bigger) before the majority would back, but a) I doubt Bethesda are capable of that and b) CP had an amazing story, characters and world building already in place. Starfield doesn’t and they surely recognise this to an extent and will see it as a wasted exercise.

On to top of that, the rumours of them shadow dropping the Oblivion remake is like them saying – ‘yeah we fucked up with Starfield, we can’t fix it, so here’s a remake of a better game we did as an apology’.

I personally feel they’ll release an update with some gameplay and exploration improvements (which will most likely be taken from mods), a DLC on the scale we saw with the previous one, and then call it day.

Of all the problems with this game, there was one thing in Starfield I saw and immediately turned the game off and never went back.
I was shooting up a procedurally generated construction site on a barren moon. No atmosphere whatsoever. But walking around looking for loot, I came across an open lunchbox with a sandwich and apple, as though workers were removing their helmets in deep space to eat! Immersion broken. Starfield is such a massive joke and a huge disappointment, I don’t think DLC could save it.

I hated the Rover. I tried using it, only for a game breaking bug where I couldn’t get out of the vehicle and it would refuse to load a save while I was “in it.” I thought it was a funny visual bug where the rover would move but my characters would stay in place, but no. I was locked in the rover
Also, it only took me 6-7 hours to beat Shattered Space. While doing a bunch of side stuff AND being under leveled.

Expansions like Shattered Space do NOTHING WHATSOEVER for the foundational problems of Starfield. You first need to improve the pig itself. You can dress it up later.
The new expansion will do nothing for the game, because Bethesda does not understand what is the real problem.
I like the game in principle, because I can see the enormous potential. The shipbuilding is awesome. The gunplay and weapons are fun. They have an enormous game world to play around with, but they MUST deal with the core problem first. The core problem is the repetitive planetary bases on every damn planet, with the same enemies, and the same loot, stored in the same boxes, in the same rooms. It drives me crazy. I played the game twice, but I can not finish it, because the repetitiveness liquifies my brain.

Here’s a tip for anyone that has fallout 4 VR, if you have the DLC for Far Harbour and Nuka Worlds you can dump those files from the flat screen game straight into the folders of the VR version and they will also play in VR.

I did one play through. It was fine. I tried to start a second play through to do shattered space and i got bored and stopped playing before ever getting to the expansion. Fallout is far superior.

Long time Bethesda fan here. I’m also an OG Morrowind fan. I finally played Starfieild for the first time last month. I think it’s fine. I expected it to be terrible based on the reviews. It’s not that bad. It’s a decent Bethesda RPG. It’s the least buggy Bethesda game I’ve ever played. It doesn’t reinvent the wheel. But I recommend it if you like Bethesda games.

I own the premium edition and never came back for shattered space, when I look back it’s crazy to think that Bethesda had me hooked with all their games for years because of the DLC. I waited for and played the oblivion dlcs, same for fallout 3, Skyrim and fallout 4. Starfield makes me fall asleep and I can’t bring myself to play that game again, Bethesda fell off for good, rip ES6

I recently bought an xbox Series S only as a gamepass machine. Recently I started playing Starfield and I have to say that overall I’m enjoying it and it’s a very relaxing game to play. But the game’s worst problems are: 1. Too many fast travels/loading screens 2. Bad NPC facial animations

This game is exactly what I would want to play. Except, everything I know about the game makes me not want to play it. And it’s so fundamentally broken that I can’t believe a dlc can fix it

Even if the core content of the DLC looks good and is generally cool, it wont change the fact they need to change core mechanics of the game because they are straight up bad.

Literally the only thing that would make Starfield worth even installing at this point would be:
1. Bethesda somehow updating the engine to allow world streaming so you could actually explore entire planets without loading screens (lol fat chance)
2. a HOVERCRAFT that did the same thing as the Rover but would hover a few feet off the ground so it wouldn’t get hung up on every single random rock on the planet.
3. the hovercraft was fast and mobile enough that it felt cool to surf over the land at high speeds doing cool tricks and stuff

None of this will ever, EVER happen though, because Bethesda is terrible studio now. Just pure zero effort garbage.

This may sound crazy but the modding community for BGS games uses a scrip extender mod. This allows modders to use certain scripts or extended bits of code to help develop their mods. Every update BGS launches for any of their games breaks the script extenders thus breaking almost every mod and we have to wait for the modding community to release a new update for the script extender. Is this a sign that the code that BGS releases is less maintainable and scalable than the code that the modding community releases. If so is it a management issue or employee issue.

Short answer: no. Long answer: No, because the issues with Starfield are hard baked into the game’s very design. If they wanna win people back, they would have to redesign the game from the ground up. They’re obviously not gonna do that since, 1: that would take away from development of TES VI, and 2: they think nothing is wrong with Starfield, so they see no desire to fix things. It’s better if Bethesda moves on and focuses all their resources into TES VI. It’s their swan song, after all. If TES VI bombs spectacularly, no one will have any faith left for Fallout 5.

I just finished Shattered Space yesterday. Man I’ve never had such a miserable experience with a Bethesda game. I had quest NPC’s outright break, I had a building fail to render, the enemies are just blue space raiders, it was an awful, awful dlc. I’ve been playing BGS games since Oblivion, I even say Fallout 76 is good, and Shattered Space is just really really bad. I was playing completely unmodded too, until the quest NPC’s broke and I had to use a mod to get the last achievement because I refuse to play ball with a DLC that has zero reason to be so buggy.

Bethesda knew that the modders would fill in the boring details like “fun” or the “entertainment” so they didn’t try for that.

Everything they’re releasing now feels like minimum viable product. It’s barely enough to be functional and barely enough content to justify selling. At this point in the game’s lifecycle they should be adding to it substantially, not being stuck in this release day mentality.

BGS fucked the entire premise of Starfield. Its NOT a game, its a PLATFORM… They should have allowed other developers to create worlds for Starfield. Doom world, Mincraft world, Mario world, fortnite world or brand new ips. They create a single solar system with content then bring in as many other developers to make worlds. They could never do this with CE2 though, it would have to be a more mainstream engine to allow for as many dev teams to create as possible. But what can you expect, Todd is past it now. Boomer making bloated games and pushing mts on everyone. Fuck Todd.

The short answer is no. this isnt a cyberpunk situation where the game is awesome but came out too early and with a lot of mishaps which left it broken and F’ed, this is simply a boring and non modern game. No DLC can make a 6 a 10 unless its something like Cyberpunks 2.0 update and we all know Bethesda arent ones to spend THAT MUCH time and resources on a game thats already out, they spit out a few DLCs at best and if the game is EXTREMELY successful they’ll milk it by making lackluster rereleases. They’d never be like CDprojekt or Hellogames and spend time and effort, eating into their own profits to make the game they sold something people would love, they’ll simply move on while learning as little as they can because they simply think their way is better.

The game excels at its systems-based mechanics, it’s amazing graphics, and it’s pretty damn deep character customization and rpg features. The game is mediocre when it comes to story-narratives and there’s a lack of engaging npcs. World building for a space game is decent. IF ALL OF U want a script-based game where the characters in the game tell you where to go and what to all the time, then go play something else. Starfield still does that but that’s not what Starfield is about. Starfield gives you everything to create a story for your own build, and man, I’ve created such a deep character (in-game, not just in my own imagination) and I’m so damn freakin happy.

I’m doing stuff in Starfield I’ve only DREAMT about doing in a Rockstar game. It is pretty damn good.

Biggest issues with Starfield IMO: clunky menu/UI & inventory system, loading screens & fast travel, repetitive locations once you’ve seen them (yay another science outpost), and no real feeling of choices having consequences.

If you can get over the menu issue it’s a great play through & you could legit enjoy the game for 100+ hours with all the quests. Unfortunately there’s basically zero replay value & the fun level drops off significantly once you do all the hand crafted quests & locations.

Well the “first impressions” matter and mine was just meh when I first saw the Starfield trailer. Fallout 4 is better than Starfield and Bethesda lost it’s way after Fallout 4 despite its flaws of the game it was a sign to their fans…

In order to really bring Starfield up to date with modern gaming standards, BGS would have to do a big overhaul like CDPR did with Cyberpunk 2077. And that’s coming from a huge fan of Starfield. I love the game, but it could definitely do with some major improvements.

I seriously doubt any dlc can save Starfield at this point. They have had _plenty_ of opportunity to improve the game. They could have made improvements _outside_ of dlcs, like Cyberpunk did. All I see from Bethesda now is incomplete thoughts. They are stuck in the same game era as vanilla Skyrim and have never been able to move past it.

Just like with the “romances”. Those are _not_ romances. They are hollow relationships that are nothing more than friendzones with the occasional post-nap insinuations. No kissing, no hugs…nothing that would actually imply anything other than a friend-level relationship. It was the exact same in Skyrim.

They could have gone back in and made a few more cities here and there sprinkled around the planets we have, or on a space station. Even the cool space stations like the creepy ones have nothing more than “spooky atmosphere”. It’s so disappointing. Along with finding planets with the same plants and animals as those on the opposite end of the map. Ugh.

The biggest disappointment to me is NG+. There should have been variations in the game, even if you wanted to play it like you aren’t a Starborn. Give us a different companion like Commander Tuala. Throw in some differences in quests…something. The game is identical except for a very few places where you can use a Starborn dialogue, but that’s it, and it doesn’t even happen everywhere.

Shattered Space was over priced, too short, and half-assed. They even tried to use the “phase monster” as hype- it was a creature that we’d already seen on other planets! Ridiculous and disappointing and says everything you need to know about where Bethesda sits. Cheap and lazy is correct.

Starfield had so much potential, and I was rooting for it hard at first, but the substance it has is limited to the main and side quests. Everything else, including exploration, is one-dimensional set dressing. Bethesda is not growing past what they did in Skyrim- they are resting on their laurels and I just can’t get excited by anything they announce. Actually, when they announce anything I lean into cynical. Just like with the Oblivion “remake”. We all know it’s nothing more than a re-skin at best. Screw that- I’ll wait for the Skyblivion mod that I _know_ is made by people with passion as opposed to Bethesda who is happy to keep the status quo.

Starfield is the most corporate game Bethesda have ever released. It’s so bland and devoid of artistic passion or charm, so devoid of anything appealing. The whole thing just goes from empty, to ugly, to boring. The only thing keeping them afloat is the fact that they were mining IP made in the past by actual passionate artists. All they can make now is the video game equivalent of cold, bland oatmeal. They’re just too focused on the business side of things and dumbing their games down. Most missions could be improved. Also, the ship brig should be functional and a cool bounty hunt mechanic needs to be implemented. I want to lock up captives and transport them to wherever they need to go.

I loved my 70 hour playthrough of the game. Even got the collectors for the watch. No regrets. But unlike every other BGS game since Oblivion, I have no desire to replay Starfield and haven’t even dove into shattered space despite having already paid for it.

I played starfield for like 2 weeks after it released and haven’t touched it since. The story is so boring but for me the loading screens took me out of the experience. Bethesda is going down hill. I wouldn’t be surprised if the next Elder Scrolls game is bad too or doesn’t live up to the hype

I’ll wait for a review before I buy since the other one was kinda mid. I will say however that I’ve played more of the quests and was supposed on the unity and starborn emissary and the hunter. Was cool but I’ll wait for trusted opinions of future content.

The problem with starfield is the team is unwilling to admit any part of the game is wrong so the dlcs wont overhaul any existing systems because again the dev team thinks theres nothing wrong to fix. Think of skyrim or fo4, most if not all dlc doesnt affect the og gameworld. The dlcs are usually a completely separate area that you can basically never interact with.

Starfield needs to add more weapons/weapon types, more enemy variety, stealth overhaul, bounty overhaul, police overhaul.

As much as its trendy to hate on starfield, the game is probably 75% of the way there to being the best space sandbox rpg ever made but unless theyre willing to admit its not complete it will never be completed.

They would have to pull a Phantom Liberty and expending a lot of time and resources to revamp the game and it’s mechanics (especially the lackluster powers), I dunno if they’re willing to go that far.
