Hello I am the creator of Crater 87.
About the physicalized small items not being removed when de-sliming the location: I left these pieces in for two reasons. The first is that players have more items they can pick up as potential crafting or decoration material. The second being is that it would be hard to separate which items are 100% useless (as in no crafting purpose at all) and which only have some resale value. I am one of the players that likes to have bethesda game locations to be packed with physicalized items to interact with.
For some locations I had to decide whether I want the rooms to be 100% undecorated or leave some amount of it in (like you show in 2:23). I tend to like to keep some decoration (which does not take up the center of the room) for visual purpose so the place looks more realistic. I do not know whether players prefer 100% empty or some lived-in apperance. For example the what I find beautiful wooden desks in the security room, I think they are not buildable by default. So I left them in as tables for players to place stuff on because they fit the room more than placeable furniture.
Also there are some rooms that have decoration that is important for specific cutscenes, if I would remove them and make them “removeable” that may affect how the AI navigates. And if you played Crater 87, you probably saw some cutscenes that require very precise navigation. Changing that furniture could require a lot of extra testing.
I am listening to all the feedback on player home decorations. For example on Venera I made the entire rentable apartment completely void of furniture except for the bathroom.
