It’s because Mr Todd Howard thinks that his antiquated shitbox of an engine is better than any others that could be made or are currently available. So it was made with the same engine fallout 4 and 76 had. Which, had many issues
Did you know everytime you do a security check before going into or leaving Dogtown, that’s actually the game unloading one map and loading the other.
You got fooled by a loading screen, Bethesda is seething rn
Bethesda games would feel newer if they didn’t use an 13yr ago engine that’s held together with “it just works” mentality
bruh, even skyrim wasn’t this bad
It’s the cell based system of the Creation Engine (/the original gamebryo engine they based the creation engine on). It’s unfixable basically, at least not without hacking the engine to bits. They need a new engine for 6
Starfield failed because there’s 1000 planets and less than 1% of one small planet in terms of content. How many NPCs are even in that universe (not including the recycled creatures)? 1000 maybe?
I mean I would not mind a cool loading screen or an pre done animation or something but this game has way more problems than this.
Fun fact, he is wrong, you don’t see the loading screens but the elevators in cyberpunk are loading arias
Generally speaking imo- i think theres an interesting use case, especially in dindie development, for using sparing and not overused loading screens, even if uneeded, if what theyre trying to do is pull upon the nostalgia of a bygone eran especially the dtuff thats trying to pull on the vibe of the n64/ps1 and gamecube/ps2 generations.
Statfield is a triple a game that i gaurtee did not do it for artistic reasons. And if they by chance did. It was a bad choice.
hence why as a Star citizen player Starfield just fell flat for me. Not immersive at all.
Star Citizen definitely has its flaws but the fact that it has no loading screens still gives me hope for its future
Bethesda and their love for creation engine 2. If only they would get with the 21st century and start using unreal Engine
Anyone familiar with Bethesda games is used to waiting before entering a room. Honestly I rlly want to play Starfield but it’s not on PS5 sadly
What they could of done is make a pre loaded cinematic for landing or for FTL so once you land or exit FTL the areas loaded
Lord, some fallout and skyrim mods literally make persistent areas a viable thing, in completely older versions of the creation engine, its totally possible to use that engine well, i have no clue as to why Bethesda cant seem to develop on their OWN ENGINE, their writers have only ever been their strong suit.
Yes the loading screens are annoying….. But the game is still fantastic
Incorrect, many missions in Cyberpunk required Loading screen. Each time, it tells you to wait, and V’s vision phase out the game is loading in new assets for the mission.
That game is such a lost opportunity
Every game dev: if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it, if it is broke, fix it
Bethesda: If it ain’t Broke, don’t touch it, if it is broke, don’t touch it because nothing is broken, it just works
My theory is that cyberpunk uses elevators as loading screens
Bro, they’ve been pulling this shit since the Whiterun fast travel node.
Bro… Even Skyrim had that down… If you fast travel into a town you end up IN the town.. they’re taking steps backwards now
The game engine is older than me I think. And I’m turning 23 this year.
There’s a bunch of ways to elimante or hide loading screens, Bethesda doesn’t use any of them because the people with real decision power have become lazy beyond belief, and that includes Todd Howard who’s happy promising things he can’t accomplish and selling 15 year old games because profit is all that matters.
Their head writer has 1 or 2 good quest lines to his name and since he became the head honcho he hasn’t delivered even one good main story and since fallout 4 most guilds in their games are also shit.
Using a game engine that’s 20 years old because they can’t be bothered, bad animation, outdated graphics, simplistic mechanics for their time, lazy dialogue and plot writing, being okay with a game launched in 2023 having the same amount of loading screens as a 2003 game (and even then Morrowind might have less loading screens), not even trying to optimize your games.
There’s no game studios with any worth to their names be them indie, AA or AAA who stoops to the levels of laziness Bethesda does. And the only reason they get away with this is because there are a lot of ES and Fallout fans who don’t want to face the truth. Bethesda doesn’t care and actually think they’re entitled to you eating their shit and saying you like it (don’t even get me started on their responses to any criticism lately).
I really, truly want to see ES6 and Fallout 5 be awesome to the level of BG3 or Kingdom Come Deliverance 2, but we’ll never get that if we don’t hold those lying bastards accountable.
Who fucking Cares?
That’s just dumb, why not just load you into your place?!
Starfield really killed any hype i had for elder scrolls 6..
I never even completed starfield. I got to the point where im flying somewhere and then i get attacked and the flight controls are so jank that i just gave up.
they advertised it like it would be a space exploration game similar to elite dangerous and no mans sky. what we got was a space them skyrim “adventure” but with redundant loading screens
Hiding loading screens and hiding loading in general is an art that has advanced greatly over the years.
Its just a bethesda thing im sure..
Still hype for Es6
Pretty sure it’s the item persistence in Creation Engine games that make loading screens a thing. They really need to update that
Outdated? Nah bro, that was just fucking stupid and I wanna know who thought that was a good idea to design like that. That is example number one of why Starfield’s loading screens are a problem when they shouldn’t be.
Being playing Skyrim and Oblivion for years and years now and Starfield makes me not excited for ES6. Then again only play ES games now because of mods
Because Bethesda has made the same game over and over with little innovation to gameplay since Skyrim lol
Starfield is basically a texture swap of Fallout 4 at this point with slightly upscale graphics
This is classic bethesda and ill be shocked if elder scrolls 6 is any different.
100% agree, very poor load screen managment resulting in time wasted for the player
