Worst purchase I made in 2023. Not at all what it was marketed to be. I’ve played Bethesda games since Arena but I’m done. Horrible writing. Horrible story. Way too many loading screens. It doesn’t really even feel like a space game with all it’s fast travel. Invisible walls, cut and paste POI’s etc. Nope!

Hell yeah, I’m having a great time playing it, especially with mods.

Starfield is as RPG in Space gaming as thinking you traveled the world by going to Epcot. I will say this. I could spend hours in ship building mode. Too bad flight is limited to small sand-blocks with a bitmap universe and planets on the horizon only accessible by loading screens. It’s soul-less. I come back to it every now and then. Just can’t get immersed. It does have great potential if it can flesh out with ambitious DLC and moding. I enjoyed your video.

I own it and the DLC, haven’t played it since the 1st few weeks. I’ll give it a legit shot at some point.

Yes. After playing Starfield on Series X for over 5600 hours I decided to make another xbox profile and begin all over again so I could use all the knowledge I’ve gained to see what it’s like.
Starfield is not just a game, it’s an experience. It’s exercise for your mind.

I liked the elder scrolls series, and it is a lot like them. I like that style Bethesda game (did not get into fallout). I really enjoyed starfield, except for outpost building. That was not my cup of tea, either.

Skyrim is one of my favorite games of all time…The one thing I was really bummed out about with this latest Bethesda game though was that they more or less got rid of the crafting system we knew and loved from all the other Bethesda games. Regardless, I really like Starfield and I loved the ending and NG+. 😁

Please don’t ask me how many hours I have in starfield. It’s like 41 days. Probably? I’m lvl 105, and I’ve been through the unity once already. but I’m in love with the mods and the game overall. I’ve literally gotten lost so many times by other distractions, just trying to complete a single mission. Is it perfect? NO! There is a list of things I want to see Bethesda fix or add within the base game. But that has not deterred me from having fun. The mods are 100% a must for those who are looking to continue beyond the vanilla gameplay. Would I recommend it? Absolutely, YES! But I’d also advise that you should go in not expecting it to be a 10/10.

Been trying listen to your commentary of the game and I think it’s a good game I like it I’m having fun with it.. but my advice would be if you want to play the game ..yes .. but wait for it to be on sale there are moments in the game you do and you will look at the screen questioning “why is this here?”

Andromeda is terrible for a Mass Effect game lol well in my opinion lol

    • @adny02
    • 2025年 1月 18日 9:56pm

I’m over 800 hours. I’m scared to pick it up because I can never put it down. I still haven’t gotten into ship building because I don’t have my tech skills upgraded, and I have issues trying to control the camera properly when rotating around the ship while viewing it. not used to it…… yet.
I do like the Outpost building, especially after the grueling process of figuring it out during my first playthrough. But when I get the buildings made, the ships transporting everything, and it all just works out it feels like owning a train set when I was a kid. Build it, and watch it do its thing. I only wish the people you hire would go out and help me collect resources or survey the planet.
Other than that I’m still finding new quests and areas in this damn game. It’s endless! Even if its a procedurally created small town/ factory/ outpost/ whatever, and some guy have a small mission he needs my help with… so be it. It’s new to me, let’s rock and roll. But the hand-crafted locations and stories? trust me, if you keep searching around every nook and cranny, you’ll always find something new that’ll get you scratching your head saying “How did I miss this person, story, or this party of the city??!”

    My biggest negatives?
    1) need a better flashlight. You can build intergalactic spaceships but can’t add better flashlights on a helmet? it’s like using a cell phone for light inside those dark caves!
    2) If I can find and/or collect playing cards, darts, table tennis, pool tables, and boardgames, then i should be able to play them with npc characters. Maybe have places to gamble as well.
    3) A SHOPPING LIST!!! Tracking resources with that magnifying glass icon is far from good enough! Sure we could use the tracker, but how about a list of the items we need to build that requires these resources we’re tracking?! I could never remember the item I was supposed to build, and how many of the resources was needed to build that item.

sorry for the rant. lol. I just love this game to much!

Seems like it probably will be worth it as a comfort/junkfood game to vege out with after popping a few special gummy bears once a couple more DLCs release, and the whole thing can be purchased for under $40 whenever that happens. No sane person buys this game for the writing, character development and story telling…

I finished it with game pass last year. It was alright. No way in hell would I buy it for 70 bucks, not even 40. I wanted to play it again with a bunch of mods but only when I can get it for about 25 bucks.

    • 2025年 1月 18日 9:56pm

Missed opportunity. They gave us the canvas but they forgot to include the paint and the brushes.

Being able to ‘inject’ these 1000 planets with player created content should have been there from day one. There should have been showcases with beta access player content even before release. Players would have caught on to the potential right away.

Space Engineers, a 10+ year old indie game does this to very great success. Players can create ‘scenarios’ that are basically themed mid-sized games. These scenarios spawn random POI’s and/or encounters based on player creations that were bundled into the scenario by its creator. It’s kinda janky but it makes for never-ending variety. And creators are more than happy to see their creations bundled into scenarios. It just works.

Starfield is NOT good. You will have invisible crosshairs on weapon sights as soon as you choose the chameleon perk. Bethesda didn’t make it to give us an opportunity to turn this chameleon effect On or Off and they still didn’t fix that problem.

    • @Jeymez
    • 2025年 1月 18日 9:56pm

well i can say while i didn’t buy the game at launch,
i did eventually get the game and i can say i enjoyed it,
minus the dlc aside. but in terms of whether it’s worth it,
well that’s where i can’t let my enjoyment of the game,
dictate how others feel. you as the person has to decide,
what you are looking for out of gaming, and if Starfield
doesn’t scratch that itch they’re looking for, it is what it is.
Me i went into it not thinking of any past Bethesda game,
my mindset wanted to see what this game has to offer.
well it’s certainly a Bethesda game, it has all the usual
mechanics that come with it, but after 3 months of owning it,
i can say without a doubt i enjoyed it. so it’s worth it to me,
i doesn’t quite match the level of Skyrim, but then again i don’t
expect any game they make going forward will ever
reach the heights Skyrim did. but even Fallout 4 had it’s moments,
but i do think you can easily stack Starfield side by side with that game.
Skyrim was a rare game for Bethesda, that came out at a time
when gaming was different. well Skyrim captured that fantasy
element the most, and it’s why it’s still around.
Starfield is more like Fallout 4, it’s a good game, but it’s not the best
weve seen from Bethesda. Skyrim was their peak,
so that means some people will like it, others will not.
i enjoyed Fallout 4 for the most part, but it’s not the best Fallout.
that honor goes to New Vegas, but Fallout 3 i feel was a better
Fallout game and that was by Bethesda. New Vegas just took it further,
but for Starfield it’s not a great game, but it’s good enough for me.

    • 2025年 1月 18日 9:56pm

I got Starfield during the winter sale on Steam. Have about 100 hours in thus far. Not a perfect game by any stretch but there is so much to do get bored of the main story do a faction story, do any of the number of sidequests, build ships., build outposts, roam around looking for pirates in space or on the planets. If you are not trying to “hurry and beat teh game” there is easily more than 100 hours of content in there.

    • @nolgroth
    • 2025年 1月 18日 9:56pm

I’m a little burnt out on Starfield, but 3,800 hours of anything will do that I think. I believe that you covered most of it, but one thing to note are the secondary and incidental quests.

The Eleos Retreat, Failure to Communicate, Reliant Medical and a bunch of other quests are just waiting to be discovered.

It’s a really solid game that’s biggest sin is that you’ll end up wanting more from it than the developer could reasonably provide. I mean, I could write an entire thesis on how it could have been “better,” but at the end of the day, I would totally recommend it. The ship building alone guarantees that.

I still haven’t tried Starfield even though I was very pumped for it initially, but I let the negativity surrounding it all deter me. I might try to get it on sale some day. I’m just concerned I’ll feel I wasted my money. However, your video and the comments beneath it definitely inspire me a bit.

Hey Ren – Since you played both games, how would you compare Starfield to Star Wars: Outlaws? I understand that is really a loaded question, but a basic answer is fine. Which did you enjoy more and why? I’m guessing there is no right or wrong answer, but I do value your thoughts. Thanks.

    • @X363
    • 2025年 1月 18日 9:56pm

Agree with everything except the part about planets being “updated”. Bethesda didn’t update existing planets to add the DLC content, they created a new system, all those planets are new and i don’t see them making a new DLC in an existing planet by creating a new city in one for example, sounded like that’s what you suggested that happened with Shattered Space or would with future DLC.

And the following point about mods isn’t very accurate either, sure there will be mods that add fixed locations to existing planets but that’s not the idea. To that effect though, one thing that’s a big request due the nature of the procedural generation is a big update with a number of new locations, that’s something Bethesda could and should do imo, create a bunch of new distinct locations to keep exploration interesting.

Maybe my interpretation of what you said about planets could be off but that’s how it sounded to me.

Great overview Renfail. I find I enjoy Starfield more when I play it casually – ie. with no objective. Not focusing on main storylines. I am currently doing a more focused playthrough to finish main storylines and I have had less fun playing the game. I did not like Fallout; however loved Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim. Like you say, Starfield is your typical Bethesda RPG style… You will encounter some issues (for me, on the Xbox X – it is on New Atlantis) and some janky physics things that occur (that sometimes are hilarious).. but overall, YES – 100% worth playing this game. I run a handful of mods/creations just to tweak a few things. There is a lot there, in this game… and being only like a year and 3/4 months old… One story DLC released, I am sure there will be more to come. Jump in. Jump around the star systems. Blast up some Ecliptics, Spacers and whatever else you encounter… Run freight. Join the pirates. Become a bounty hunter… etc. etc. Have fun!

Starfield, just like any other game, you get what you put into it. Everyone is looking for this magical make believe fantasy of the “Perfect Game” which doesn’t exist and never will due to the fact what I like you probably won’t and vice versa. Everyone has their own flavor and styles and what makes them enjoy a game. We are all to different. I tell everyone, if you enjoy Bethesda games you’ll get some life out of Starfield. If you enjoy modding you’ll get some life out of Starfield. I’m literally at 1500 hours in game and been heavily modding it since the release day. I make it my own and different from others and that’s what I enjoy. Personalized experiences. Great video as always and spot on review.

I’m closing in on 1500 hours in Starfield. Obviously I like it. No game is actually perfect. Even Cyberpunk 2077 had growing pains and game breaking flaws in the beginning. Starfield has two great “Mission” paths, The Vanguard is really good. The Crimson Fleet is good too (to be fair, it’s one of the Vanguard options). I’m not a big fan of the Ryujin is not as fun for me, but other might find it pretty good. My current avatar in game is on the Third New Game Plus (so fourth “life”). Just running around completing the mini-missions (Kill a spacer, destroy a pirate ship, those types) and are good for days you don’t have time to go deep. And a good number of other side quests, thought they could have had more. I give it 8 out of 10.
