completely forgot about this game. For me, it was the WORSE experience of 2024. Came in with low expectations, and it still made me mad. I uninstalled it after 25 hours, never finished. It basically stole 25 hours of my life, and game me nothing back, just a bitter taste. I will never return to it.

at 4k you use dlss performance

DLSS FG has significant computational cost and the higher the resolution the less gain you will see in GPU bound scenarios, it makes perfect sense. Even at just 4K you only got like 30% improvement or so, barely justifiable to turn it on at that point. One of the major things for 5000 series to improve upon. If 5090 is say 50% faster than 4090 but also can do FG much better and gains like 70-80% from FG at 4K instead of 25-40%, it will amount to over 2x improvement overall in FG scenarios.

Talking of performance issues and improvements, Hogwarts Legacy was mostly fixed last summer. It may be worth re-visiting as well.

What’s the meaning of optimized?

It’s nice to see such a big improvement, but honestly, this seems still to be average performance on a card that is meant to be the absolute best of the best and costs so much. The textures and graphics design in Starfield isn’t as detailed as other games… Sure, great that the developers have made it run better, but …. Yeah, okay it is “optimised” compared to some games. It still feels like it could be better than it is on such a high end card.

Why use dlss it makes the game look terrible? No film grain makes the game full of banding everywhere its meant to be atleas 20% on its not just for looks, why turn off vrs its important for shading distant objects, no hdr, my game looks way better than this, this looks more like medium to low graphics despite the settings. Sharpening needs to be at 100% * beyond that with the reshade since ingame is broken)always because the game force uses TAA which is why the game looks so blurry there is no face lines or animations that show up. Shadows dont work on Ultra they are bugged you can only use them till high

80 fps on a game that really doesn’t look that good on a 4090 is insane. the finals looks better and i get double that even with the highest raytracing settings on my 7900xtx. okay yes its not an open world game but bro more is happening in a finals round than in the “open world” in starfield lmao.

Really strange. I have a 4080 and an Intel chip and ran this on Ultra settings day one and had no issues with it at all. Sure, there were broken quests and weird glitches (It’s Bethesda after all), but as far as performance went, no issues hitting 75fps in most areas at 4K res. I often wonder how much PEBKAC is involved in people having issues like this.

This game gets a lot of grief, but it still looks really good imo.

And despite all the people saying it’s so bad, it still averages more active players than much more recent PC releases from Sony (like Horizon Forbidden West & Ghosts of Tsushima).

The only thing not optimised here is your ridiculous RAM timings and then disabling the non 3D cores as if that will make up for anything.

Variable Rate Shading should be disabled when running any benchmarks. One could argue it’s not a true native 4k when parts of the image have been “selectively degraded”.

What they should of done was a “create a planet mechanic/mode” so they could focus more on the story and just a few planets and let us folks create more planets to choose from after we complete the story. This would definitely give it some replay ability when the people have the control to create.

I think starfield would be exactly my type of game it’s like fallout 4 which I have loke 200+ hours in. But the lighting is so bad and offputing I had to stop playing it after 3 hours. From 2021 on I only play games with at least somewhat raytracing or pathtracing or at least software lumen and Starfield not only doesn’t have that it somehow has even worse lighting than games 5 years older than that. Well at least stalker 2 came out with lumen and has gorgeous lighting (flashlight and candles are bad and some grass shadows missing), I’ve already 150 hours in it and still going strong.

Looking at the game, the graphics, the scenes, I want to play it… Theeeen, I hear people talking about the story and the price becomes a huge no. And then the memory of lost saves and bugged messes in Bethesda games and it becomes really hard to rationalize about buying it.

Ouvi dizer que a Geforce Now aqui em Portugal é um pouco fraca devido à distancia do servidor mais perto ainda ser bastante grande. O Boosteroid tem um servidor na Espanha mas até agora gastei os 10 euros e ainda não ativaram a minha conta (e já passaram 3 horas 🙁 , tou à espera que eles resolvam o problema). i have a 4090 with an g sync monitor and for some reason starfield has a stutter every 30 seconds or so like clockwork, its not unplayable but would love to get rid of it if anyone has any suggestions or has expertise with it before.

For the graphics it have, still don’t justify the performance it’s getting at 4k. i would expect that kind of performance in a game with Crysis 3 level of detail with an open world with a 4090. damn Creation Engine… It’s awesome for mods, etc. But it the performance side, it’s embarassing😓

It’s definitely way better optimized now than it was at launch. This is the problem, though. Some developers take around a year or more to optimize the game to the point where it’s polished. When games launch in a badly optimized state, it gives off a bad first impression, and that can really hurt the game’s potential to gain popularity. The developers really aren’t doing themselves any favors by doing this.

Frame generation in newer titles don’t work as they were supposed to. FG is advertised to double ones framerate, but instead, it just adds 50% more fps, which doesn’t make sense.

Bigger part is probably that nvidia has optimized drivers for the game. Originally it ran better on amd cards because their drivers were better optimized for the game.

You should disable VRS if you want to have max graphics settings. VRS is downgrading quality of some of the elements, that people typically would not notice unless they are looking for it. It gives you some extra frames, but I wouldn’t call that ultra.

Perhaps time to re-try the minimum (Ryzen 5 2600X/Intel Core i7-6800K and RX 5700/GTX 1070 Ti)? 🙂

I would be interested to see how this runs on a ‘recommended’ gpu, which is a 2080 on the Nvidia side. Or a 4060, since that’s more or less an equivalent gpu in terms of performance.

The game being sharp even at a distance is thanks to you using DLAA as opposed to FXAA that makes the game look smeary in modern games. So that’s amazing, and try to avoid FXAA or TAA whenever possible

There is no optimization here, this game both slowed down and slows down on my i5-11400 processor, and I played for 650 hours, but if I start a new game or switch to NG+, then the game runs smoothly and without brakes, even in those places where there were brakes on the old big playthrough. 😒😟

The frame drop you’re seeing there in New Atlantis happens every time like clockwork in that particular section of the map. It happens because you’re crossing the cell limits so the game has to load the content of the adjacent cell, and since it’s a very intensive part of the city it causes a fps drop. That’s how the creation engine works, each map is subdivided in cells and the engine streams in the nearby cells as you cross the borders (it’s been like this since Morrowind btw).
