Sad to see such failure… like u look at Baldurs gate 3, that game has 10x the player count still of this game and thats a niche turn based RPG, its hilarious bethesda can’t even get half those numbers let alone 1/10th. Microsoft should fire everyone there, make a new team completely, this todd howard character has no idea what he’s doing, he’s just scamming microsoft at this point with his ultra slow release times and way below quality when they actually come out.

Lets be real here. Bethesda has been dead sinxs skyrim released. The only reason their games do well is because of the modding community. Not anything Bethesda has done. They have grown lazy and complicit relying on modders do the real work.

    • 2024年 11月 29日 9:56pm

How about dumping the the Creation TURDgine for future games? why they insist so much with that ancient mid 90’s tech to this day? every dev out there seems to be moving to Unreal, EA, Ubi, Activision, Rockstar, CD Projekt and others, but bethesda? nope, just update it!

That engine is so ancient that every time they try to update one their games they break a ton of stuff… just dump it already!

    • 2024年 11月 29日 9:56pm

Well…. I think Tom Howard needs to release the game to the modding community, go to a monthly to bi monthly update schedule, and then sit back and let modders to what they do best, create the content tom Howard failed to make in the core game. I mean Tom this is what you get with releasing a game that was barely playable on release and was in dire need of bug fixes and additional content.

Bethesda was a smell team for what they made, I don’t know about during 76 and Starfield.

Do any of you know that it was modders that made Bethesda games great
and their old games are still played today.
I still haven’t played the Starfield DLC that I got with the deluxe edition of Starfield
because it looked like garbage well the story anyway, I would have went with House Va’Ruun
starting a renewed UC vs Freestar Ranger war all over again because tensions were still
high between the two factions and as Todd had suggested with the buggy be held back
for the dlc I would give players the ability to pilot mechs from the old war,but that is just me.

    • 2024年 11月 29日 9:56pm

Starfield is free on the gamepass, even supports cloud gaming if you’re on the base xbox one like me….ao anyways I’ve been playing Black ops 6 and weirdly enough Anthem. Yea I’d rather go back and play Anthem than boot starfield

    • @WolfCatalyst
    • 2024年 11月 29日 9:56pm

The game was originally presented as a new epic adventure, unlike anything we’ve ever seen from Bethesda. That was a lie. It feels more like a weird mod for skyrim or fallout. Its the exact same bethesda game I’ve played for years.
Then its missing features other games already have…. like flying and landing on a planet. Then theres the bugs. Like…something as simple as dialog bugs, showing they didnt even test their own game.

The weight system, vendor system, pointless base building system all feel unfinished. Storage containers the size of a small room only capable of holding slightly more than I weigh. The cop-out of swapping ships and all of your cargo moving. I should be able to leave cargo in my cargo ship and leave my fighter empty. So many shortcuts.

Then theres the buggy which is useless on most planets because running is faster than trying to go around small rocks. The only time i grab it is when I know I’ll l be over-encumbered.
The expansion – the story was ok but theres a huge missed opportunity for new ships, new base parts, etc., and they didnt take it

Does this mean i hate the game? No. It means i had feedback and concerns about the fact that they released a game that wasnt finished.
It was overhyped. I expected a 10/10 and got a 7/10. It didnt leave me disappointed in the game.. it left me disappointed in Bethesda.

    • @KiraSlith
    • 2024年 11月 29日 9:56pm

The hard part of the Starfield discussion is the US Politics tier “Us vs Them” mentality that’s made fools of both sides, leading to one side blindly cheering for objective failures like 76 and Starfield, while the other blindly hates on the pretty good Fallout 3 and 4. 3 & 4 are not “great” games, but the hate they receive is wildly disproportionate when not founded in outright dishonesty, the worst being the frabkly baffling discussion around Nate/Nora and voiced protagonists.

    • @LordAziki
    • 2024年 11月 29日 9:56pm

The devs are lazy for refusing to learn or develop a new game engine instead of sticking to their limited, unstable Creation Engine which isn’t fit for some of Starfield’s features.

The engine was barely updated when they decided to put a 2 at the end for Starfield and the next Elder Scrolls, and they already needed to combine torso and leg armor for the number of NPCs you see on screen at once to be possible. On top of that, just look at how few NPCs they were able to make work for major battles in a civil war.

Their games also tend to be full of bugs that never get patched, meaning you need to wait for modders who work completely for free to make unofficial patches to do what the devs should be getting paid to do. I can understand rough releases with a publisher committing the devs to strict time constraints, but that excuse doesn’t work when the AAA studio gives less attention to their games after that release date than one-man indie studios. I will give them credit for releasing Skyrim Special Edition with some bugs from the 2011 release fixed, but most bugs fixed in the original by unofficial patches still need unofficial patches to fix in Special Edition in spite of the devs having 5 years and a AAA budget to do what a random modder could accomplish in less time with no funds.

    • 2024年 11月 29日 9:56pm

It’s not Bethesda who have been too generous. It’s us. Happily throwing 70$ at them every time they unveil their next pile of unfinished garbage code wrapped in tired assets. “Yeah, it’ll be buggy, but we love them for it.”

Do we? Or are we lying to ourselves to justify spending our money on the same boring walking simulator for 20 years?

It’s time to stop feeding a beast we know is going to bite us.

    • @arfazero1
    • 2024年 11月 29日 9:56pm

Bethesda is reliable. reliable for pumping out hot garbage and taking like 4 years to polish that turd into a semi half polished turd with flys, then saved by its mod team year after year

    • @drackar

    • 2024年 11月 29日 9:56pm

I don’t disagree. Starfield is very good. They pushed out huge changes like the carry weight, survival elements, and rover all before the expansion. If it hit with the dlc it would be seen as a cyberpunk large scale change. In this he is correct. It would have changed the narrative and stories would say Starfield is saved.

And they’re STILL making a better game with more things to do. It’s honestly kind of shameful to give Bethesda any kind of excuse for their painfully barren game.

Do they all have a central computer where they get software updates or can they not come up with their own insults? Starfield is fundamentally bad that nothing could fix, you go anywhere its a loading screen and once you realize everywhere you go planet or space is just a box with random stuff or encounters you lose any vestige of emersion you had, and the only part of this game that was fairly well done the ship building is completely pointless and lets not forget the stupid story and boring characters…

    • @Eranderil
    • 2024年 11月 29日 9:56pm

I think the thing to remember- the problem with Bethesda isn’t the developers. The problem with Bethesda is “Bethesda Studios.”

Bethesda as a company isn’t just a game development company, they are also a publisher. And publishers are the single biggest issue in the gaming industry right now. Publishers do not see gamers as human beings, but as obstacles between them and the obstacle’s wallet. This is why we’re seeing increasingly toxic monetization, why we’re seeing statements like from the Ubisoft exec that ‘gamer’s reveling in the failure of [whatever the thing was] are “less than human,” and why new AAA games are increasingly less appealing and more of a crapshoot- just buying a new AAA game in 2024 is spinning the gacha, metaphorically speaking, but you really never know what you’re actually going to get.

Developers are being forced to build games around and for monetization. Game’s aren’t made for you to have fun anymore. Games are made to get the publisher your money. As a result, games AREN’T fun anymore. This is exactly why I pretty much only buy indi games these days and avoid AAA games. There’s certain publishers I just outright won’t buy from, no matter how cool the game seems. Bethesda, Ubisoft, EA, and probably other’s I can’t think of right now (Genshin Impact’s publisher, can’t recall name ATM). I don’t support their business practices, so I vote with my wallet.

    How about you?

    • @rhettdean4641

It is unbelievable the amount of channels that hate Bethesda and Starfield in particular. Seriously, go play something else. I have been playing ESO for years non stop. I just downloaded new mods for Skyrim and Starfield. I only play these 3 games. You all sound like an army of bots. I have been playing games for 40 years. This generation will never be satisfied with anything. Like a bunch of little democrats.

    • @justinkaufman495
    • 2024年 11月 29日 9:56pm

I do like starfield I think it was an overall good game. There were some things wrong with it like the fact that the map was always a giant loading screen, and the random generation meant every encounter felt bland. The lack of a rover, and the complaints of engine limitations from the devs like this isn’t a brand new engine built with this game in mind. The fact that space flight was a total joke made the game seem less fun, but the story was good, and building the ships was okay (not quite what I was expecting though) I replayed it to prestige 5.

    • @manganiaco
    • 2024年 11月 29日 9:56pm

I lost hope for Bethesda when FO4 came out. My old co-worker got it the day of release, basically took that whole week off, when he came back the next week. I asked if it was good. He said it was, but the storyline was mediocre. He gave me a spoiler free intro into the start of the game. I jokingly said “It’d be a real dumb idea if they ended up making your son the Big Bad Evil Guy.” He stopped and just stared at me. I couldn’t believe it. I had guessed the entire story twist. This is when I realized Bethesda was junk. Fallout76 reaffirmed that, and I know ES6 is gonna continue the trend. IF it ever comes out.

No. The issue with Starfield is the big amount of loading screens worse than games of decades ago, harking back to the age of tape and cassette players, the lack of variation in structures and missions, the terrible character writing, the absence of good quests and quest lines. The buggy should have been in the main game at launch. Would have solved at least the criticism of the walking simulator.

    • @WalterWild-uu1td
    • 2024年 11月 29日 9:56pm

When I first played the game I wondered why an advanced space faring civilization thought the best way to get around an essentially empty planet was to walk around it. The first Lunar rover was deployed on our moon on the Apollo 15 mission. That was 53 years ago! No starships or energy weapons or alien species and we sent a car to the Moon. But Bethesda decided “players can just walk like they did in Fallout.” (Won’t mention Oblivion or Skyrim…he remembered mankind knew about horses.) The buggy should have been available from the initial launch. They would have charged a ton for it…but maybe all the players who abandoned the game because it was so boring to hot foot it over dead planets might have appreciated it. Probably would have been on my “to buy” list.

Sorry to keep repeating myself. BGS is hopeless. They refuse to use a 21st century gaming engine. Their graphics are cartoonish. The storylines sound like something an 8th grader threw together the night before it was due. Boring and stupid. (Like, why do I have to go track people down. Don’t these folks have cell phones?) Pointless and repetitive. The dialog, despite the best efforts of the voice actors, is painful to endure. And there’s a whole fan group (not big enough to call a ” base”) that refuses to see that “the emperor has no clothes.” So horribly disappointed since I even bought the early access version on Steam, anticipating a month of that old Bethesda magic. I finally asked for a refund 37 hours in, after being told I needed to keep playing it for at least a hundred hours but was told I had played too long to ask for a refund. I removed it from my rig and thought, never going to fall for Todd’s lying ass again.

From my observation, the biggest problem here is the FOMO. The overhyping of the game seems to have caught the FOMO of the people which caused them to be scammed(?) by the company. Effective for money making in the short run, I guess. If it still happened for their next release, welp.

Bethesda is a shell of its former self. It has been living off the success of older titles but since Fallout 76 and now Starfield, people have opened their eyes to see their games were great, 10 years ago but they have been stuck in that time period. They seem to have no idea what a good game is by today’s standards. To be fair, most developers are like this now.

    • 2024年 11月 29日 9:56pm

8:08 😂 idk. I got into bethesda from morrowind. Since then what made Bethesda was the modded community before nexus personnel started censoring mods. It been the communities created and modders who out of dedication to the craft and lore that carried bethesdas titles. All they needed to do was continue the stories, like elder scrolls what next? Are we actually getting close to the sleeper or does the dream twist some more? In fallout, the planet is actually becoming unrecognizable new landscapes and creatures, with the lovecraftian horror lurking in the background. How deep does that go?… it looks and feels like the new generation of developers have lost the love for the craft and have adapted a very high horse attitude.

Game Developers: Oh, well, we’re actually going to make something entirely different, disregarding all your input, or own gaming culture, and probably lacing it throughout with woke agenda.
Players: Oh. Well, we aren’t going to play that.
Game Developers: YOU F****** UNGRATEFUL, BIGGOTED, RACIST, HOMOPHPBIC, RIGHT-LEANING, BLAH, BLAH, BLAH!

All old Bethesda fans see a part of themselves in these bright eyed newcomers. They are experiencing the same love we experienced when we loaded up our first big Bethesda title. Give them 3 games, and they will see it the same way we do. I love Bethesda, but I have never once expected them to put out a polished or feature complete game. It has always been buggy slop, the slop just usually tastes really good.

Let me put it another way. The first time you get launched into the air randomly, it’s this crazy thing. Woah, what a bug! How did that happen? Then it happens again. And again. And again. Eventually you realize that’s just how these games are. They are all broken in the same way, but also in a way that’s unique to Bethesda titles. So, you download the community patch, learn the console commands, and eat the tasty slop. Ooo, space flavored this time!

I don’t understand how people can defend subpar products just because of brand loyalty, because that’s what it is, nothing else, those people enjoyed fallout or elder scrolls at some point and are willingly ignoring all faults from bethesda just because they’re bethesda, that’s it. Saddly that doesn’t mean the company will see their loyalty and reward them with quality, instead they’ll see them as cashcows that’ll consume any overypriced and unfinished slop they make and thank them for it.

    • @peri5552
    • 2024年 11月 29日 9:56pm

Starfield is treated this way because it’s objectively a bad game. You know what, Fallout 4, 76 would have gotten the same treatment but the franchise itself is so beloved that people ignore Bethesda’s screw ups. Bethesda knows that, they’re gonna try to pull same crap with Elder Scrolls, again another beloved IP. Corpos already figured this out; that’s why Disney goes and buys Star Wars. Because they know whatever crap they push, it will have good reception just because of the name and franchise, or out of nostalgia. “Demakes”, revival of old franchises, all follow the same formula. Get the IP, push a mediocre at best medium of entertainment, and you still make money, on top of that you’ll have “fans” defending you anyway. Internet and new media did not end up with more free thinkers; it created followers.

It’s not even toxic positivity, if you don’t like recent Bethesda games since Skyrim you won’t like Starfield at all, the base game I mean.

Nothing wrong with this whatsoever. Actually this is quite expected, since games have become more movie like and have yellow ladders etc. catch my drift?

The more you give to this game the more you get back, thats the philosophy of it. Now, a lot of people don’t like this, but I have found this game to provide WAY more gameplay than any other game that has come out in recent time. Which is for me and the people that enjoy it, we are definitely now playing this game still not because of the main quest or even some of the terrible faction questing as well, we are playing it for the actual freedom provided in the experience itself.

There’s a lot of validity to why players don’t like this game, I understand, the woke writing and the horrible campaign provided. But it does provide never ending content to your heart’s content and then some. I’m glad they made it tbh, I want developers to make what they want to make. I’m hoping they dial down the woke garbage in ES6 but I don’t thats going to happen, so as long as it’s nothing like nuka world or shattered space everything is gonna be okay in my book.

the phycological retardation of that thought process for a company that provide product is astonishing , the idea that instead of “providing” good product for consumer is dead, now its all about “how can be make money with least amount of effort possible” , its dumb and im glad all company that does this is going downhill

I play an MMO too (Guild Wars 2) and people were puzzled that I didn’t like raiding saying “But if you don’t want to participate in end game content, what’s the point in playing the game at all?”

It’s not about liking or not liking the devs. it’s about the result: is the game good or not? That’s what customers care about. This isn’t a life documentary people don’t buy games because they “like” you, they buy it because they want to play. If they don’t like it of course they will be angry. If you can’t differentiate yourself from your job, you have a problem. Gamers aren’t your boss or your friend. Soon they will feel entitled to people’s money because they “worked hard”. Why is this even an issue? What a bunch of snowflakes. If all you want is shill feedback, you’ll end up making shittier games. People feeling emotional about your product is a good thing, right? Would you rather they not care at all?

I still haven’t played Starfield yet, with Bethesda games I generally wait 2 years or so until the bugs are ironed out and there’s a lot of content and fixes. Plus, I get them cheap. I’ll try it when it’s $20 or so.

Still, the game sounds like a mess, but with some of the other releases lately…Bethesda is like an orange that’s kinda spoiled and a little mushy, but still edible. Stuff like Ubisoft or Bioware’s Dragon Age are more like a rotten chunk of meat you have to fight a raccoon for and gives you six different kinds of parasites. And butt cancer.

I really wanted to like this game, i had 100 hours on the game, and the game felt like a rehash of their previous games, no passion, just trying to reuse moments from the other games and the twists were very predictable bc of that. I was hearing so much about how this DLC was going to “Change the game” and when reinstalled it for the first time since i finished it on release i was disappointed, another you are the chosen one so the story revolves around you. Lazy writing, barely any gameplay changes, and the shattered space world seemed soulless and unrealistic+

You gotta love the takeaway about that. ‘Man, if we just tied something new to the DLC, then maybe they would have liked the DLC more because they actually got something for buying the DLC’ as though the issue was that they made both and people didn’t care about the second one. Yeah, well, maybe if your justification is that a vehicle that people find remotely useful is extra and a DLC with nothing to be excited about is lacking because you think you removed something from it… like you’re seeing that you’re missing the point. They legit don’t understand that the DLC is boring and wanna bundle it with something useful to try and distract from that fact. Yikes.

Wow, i sworn that i am done bashing starfield but this post deserves to be addressed. Bethesda seems to legit believe that more content is better when nowadays it has become clear as day the problem is the quality of the content, not the lack of content. Even on that Bethesda fails though, no matter how many procedurally generated planets you make, you will never be as good as morrowind and speaking of which, morrowind has more actual content than starfield, more actual places, more complex towns , more quests, more faction quests and unlike starfield they dont feel like they were made by a intern as a 2 minute fetch quest talk to this guy get the thing come back, literal babys first quest mod is what most of the quests in snorefield are. So yes bethesda is lazy, the clown who says we dont know how games are made is missing that modders have made entire skyrims out of bethesda”s engines with mods and the fact bethesa with its 200 devs plus over a hundred of hired freelancers and 45 small studios in the credits section and yet they took 8 years to make a game that has less content and effort put into it than morrowind that was made by 40-60 people in 3 years, its just laughable.

Bethesda needs to clean house, fire emil and todd and start new. Also i was able to identify mrmattyplays was a shill by how positive he was with fallout 4 and everyone who played that game could see what bethesda would become. I guess mr matty is less of a shill now that he is bigger.

For me, the game fails because the game and story is on rails. The quests are a to b, then b to c, then c to d. No choice of outcome. Let’s look at a side quest, Free Star Ranger. Now, minor spoiler, it has a fix outcome: “And you should have choice of outcomes, even basic ones like talking to your boss first”. This is the issue for me with star-field: the over all lack of choice, lack of cause and effect, and therefore the consequences of your actions.
Take a look at The Outer World, just as an example. In this game, you could make some basic choices, which would affect the outcome of quests and the game. Do you give the X item to group A or give it to group B, or do you try some-else, like make peace between both groups?
Making basic choices which effect the outcome of the quest is what Star Field lacks and cannot sadly recommend this game.
I had my fun with with a free game 140 odd hours played but I happy I did not pay for game and tell you truth I been more happy with discount on my GPU

Unfortunately I don’t think that person was a shill, Bethesda fans are actually like that. There’s more than a few crayon-eaters among the people left buying games from Bethesda. You’ll notice this trend of idiot pseuds latching onto their games as the years went on, particularly during the “Skyrim era”. Bethesda went peak greed releasing the same game multiple times at full price for almost a decade. I noticed a decent number of people there also picking up certain real-world political positions and trying to insert them into the game, notably politics that occurred LONG AFTER the game released. For example, in 2016 they were all comparing Ulfric Stormcloak to Donald Trump and Elisif to Hillary Clinton, of course signaling their support of the latter and decrying the former as a certain mustache man. Again, this game released in 2011.
In general it seems like a lot of people came for Skyrim, which is a very watered-down experience compared to Bethesda’s older games, did not bother to learn any real lore about the world, and just inserted their personal dogshit take on US politics into the setting. The kind of people who complain about the Stormcloaks being “racists” when literally every race in TES is racist, to the point that the Stormcloaks look like they’re just being reasonable considering everything else. I mean Morrowind had actual slavery and there was basically nothing you could do about it. What’s more, you could choose to free a slave as a sidequest and he immediately turns on you and tries to kill you and take your things.

Triple A gaming is dead. Between the dev teams, the managers of these companies, and game “journalists,” it has become a positive feedback loop of fart huffing and pointing at gamers as being the problem, not their company, product, or reviews (that often times lie HARD to shill a game). Indie -> Small Dev are the only opportunities for actual good games these days because they tend to have ONLY people with a passion for making games. Not profiting, rather heartlessly, off of a beloved hobby held dear to MANY. Maybe there’ll be a diamond in the rough, with Triple A, but I wouldn’t waste my time or hold my breath for it.

Edit: I also distinctly remember having the same opinions on the game back when it released and I am glad to see/hear that my opinions were substantiated. Hopefully the literal swarm of Bethesda drones woke up, or are waking up, to realize they are being used as an ATM by a business whose entire prestige comes from a game they didn’t even develop.

Not only because one of the top critisms of the game (which I share) was that the game was a bit too empty and it you had to walk everywhere. If you added the buggy really early in the games life cycle it would of given the community some easement of this issue and it could of given modders more assets to play around with and really help it. I don’t think them releasing it a month ago would change anythibg since the game stagnated.

I am so tired of corpo-bootlickers who think criticism is just “hating” for no reason or that we just “hate” the game…

No, we wouldn’t be complaining about it if we didn’t love Bethesda and their games! We know Bethesda can do better because they have done better in the past and all we want is for Bethesda to look at their roots, what made those good games, and replicate that again. Imagine a new TES game with the depth of Morrowind again? Even Oblivion’s depth would be nice. I would prefer Daggerfall depth, but that’s unrealistic of me to expect that out of “modern” game dev. I will only ever get to enjoy Daggerfall like games in indies.

But even then, it should say a lot for Daggerfall when someone has been making a Unity port of the entire game so more people can play it. That should tell Bethesda everything, but they don’t listen.

The sad truth is that there’s a strong chance that if they waited to release the buggy with the expansion it would have gelt like there was more to it. The expansion was perfectly fine and people are just looking to hate on Bethesda.

They hated on bethesda when they released FO76 , and it was a rocky start, but despite the criticism it was still a decent game. Just like No man’s sky, they practically remade the entire experience from the ground up. Fallout started out better than NMS. Kept more promises than NMS And like NMS improved it until it was a completely different experience and despite starting and finishing NSM with fewer broken promises and better communication, People still hated on FO76 and loved NMS despite fallout being the objectively better game This is what showed me that people are just looking to hate on Bethesda because it’s the cool thing to do.

Bethesda games are far from perfect, but each and every game they have made is at least good. Really people look for ANY reason to hate on bethesda when they have always been one of the better game companies despite their flaws.

    • 2024年 11月 29日 9:56pm

Well, Bethesda’s problem is their audience. Specifically, that they grew up.
As a kid we’re usually much more lenient towards low quality stuff since we don’t know better. But then corpos started getting even lazier thinking it will let them make more money for less work while at the same time their audience grew up and became more critical of their work. There was never a chance that this would work. If you start sacrificing quality for quick profit and relying on uninformed players, you will fail (as proven by almost every AAA studio nowadays).

As someone who actually did enjoy playing the game, it was dog shit. My personal enjoyment playing it does not change that fact. The story was so bad, it’s the reason I stopped playing. I literally didn’t care about any of the companions and genuinely wanted to get a few of them killed. The only reason I enjoyed playing it was because it’s basically Fallout 4 in space. The combat mechanics are exactly the same as Fallout 4 and the weapon customization was fun to play around with. The ship building was the best part and a large reason why I kept playing cause you had to grind out the game just to get the best ship parts.

You mean the game that still has loading screens for every single room in their main big cities, something that even fallout 76, a game where bethesda took a random studio and gave them a engine that could barely run a single player and gave them only 24 months to get the engine to run multiplayer didn’t even have to deal with loading screens every time you entered a building. Seriously, what generosity?

If features are missing from the base game, selling a DLC to fix those problems would have been scummy, but thats nothing new to bethesda after stuff like the Fallout collectors box with cheap bags etc. It’s important to complain about those things, because every time they are successful with it, they will do it again and worse until they hit a wall and walk it back to look like the good guys.

That guy is still playing Skyrim when it released. No the five other times, but the first time it did. Bethesda got away with so much when quality control was a thing yet it was ignored because the Western game industry didn’t have that much to compete with Japan, but they had been showing signs of weakness adjusting to the new generation. Even Kingdoms of Amalur wasn’t spared, having Bethesda faithful review bombing it because it was seen as a possible threat. Now that they can’t pay their way out of the mediocrity they’ve displayed for decades the cope is falling on them like a boulder.

And not to forgot most of the good devs have been replaced or moved on. The biggest problem tho is that the focus they had when they were great, is gone

OP has a slice of the truth. When this game came out there was a bunch of people hating bethesda because Microsoft bought it. I literally have a friend who was calling the game trash because he saw like a 15 minute compilation of it’s bugs. This same friend of mine also saw similar kinds of buf compilations for cyberpunk 2077 but he loves that game now that he’s played it. At the very least the other side of the console wars waa praying on starfield’s downfall and calling it trash every chance they got.

Of course now it’s more than people hating for hating’s sake. Steam reviews are only done by people who buy the game and the overall review are sitting at around 50% at the time of writing this. Safe to say the game is truly mid

Anybody claiming that Matty ‘just complains’ now did not pay any attention to his channel before now. The dude is arguably TOO positive about the games he covers, especially when it comes to Bioware and BGS. Wild to me that he is somehow catching flak for having the most rudimentary and light-handed criticisms of a bad game.

My problem is with the people that like the game but think that they opinion is the only one correct. It’s perfectly ok for someone to like the game or think that it’s a 10/10 game, but from there to say that the majority is wrong is just desilutional. If the general public doesn’t like your product, it’s not the fault of the people.
Also, effort doesn’t always get you a reward, everyone fais and waste time. bethesda waste 8 years making this game.

If I’m always naming Larian, it’s because at least i’m seeing them putting effort in their work. I still remember a twitter from Larian looking or some specific Nvidia graphic card that was out of stock, because there was a certain bug that only happened to that graphic card xD “if you have it, mail it to us”.

5:38 They are a small studio in relative terms not absolute. The only have between 450-650 employees spread out four different locations (Bethesda MD, Montreal Canada, and Austin & Dallas TX). However, they have a ton of money inside the company, and cost of living and thus wages/salaries are usually lower end on the east coast especially the south. Also which critic/journalist said that Starfield didn’t have design documents being used during it’s development? That critic in particular is dumb as hell considering design documentation is like half of what pre-production is; the other being prototyping mechanics. As for the interview with Phil yea that shit was garbo.

What I dont get is why so many gamers are not smart, I mean I heard alot of cries about vehicle, wasnt it obvious that moving faster to the same boring PoIs at best wont make things better, but most likely make things even worse. Not even talking about the fact that since game was not designed with vehicles in mind it would be not very fun to use one, maps are made for walking. Yet a lot of people wanted a buggy for some reason, normal jetpack wouldve been more useful. Same goes for flying on planets, why? You wont find more interesting PoIs or random quests, you gonna be flying between same boring random bases, and since game was not designed for it… it wont be wo a lot of issues.

(2:59) Todd Howard in the gaming industry is a mistake, and the only real purpose for him being in that industry is for the memes. Nothing of value is actually lost, and we can see that clearly with “handcrafted” nothingness that Starfield actually is.

I swear, EVE Online has more to do in all of those systems than Starfield has in that “City” hub, not even using its “handcrafted” nothingness that those planets actually are. 99% of the stuff he directed was either empty slop or stripped INTO slop (Yes, I’m looking at you, Morrowind, Oblivion AND Skyrim)… And this has been happening since early 1990s.

For anyone that wants to know more, go check “Terminator: Future Shock” and “Terminator: Skynet” games. Those two are the first games he was involved with while being in a position of power.

I think Todd makes a good point regarding handling player expectations, although he’s out of touch. The more a dev adds into a game at start, the more people will want. Baldur’s Gate 3 is already a fully fleshed out game with an awful lot of content, but people still wanted a DLC.
Regarding features, what Todd should’ve done was release the buggy and the DLC simultaneously while keeping the buggy free.

That way, the expectations of having the new features with DLC would’ve been met, and then Todd could clearly see that the real problem was the writing all along lmao.

    • 2024年 11月 29日 9:57pm

If people are liking the buggy, then holding it for the DLC would make people like the buggy in the DLC. That wouldn’t help make the rest of the DLC look better.
But, looks like most owners of Starfield didn’t care enough about the buggy or the DLC to bother trying them. Probably because the issues they raised were not yet addressed.

    Oh, analogy.
Imagine you start dating someone. They promise to make you dinner every night. The first night, they half burn the meal. Maybe they were nervous. The next night, they half burn the meal. Well, maybe they just have trouble with that. But for the next year, no matter what they cook… the dinner is half burned. So you give up and tell them to not bother, you’ll cook instead. (The dinner is the game with issues.)
Then a year later they start bringing you a root beer float every day. It’s good… since they’ve chosen good ice cream and root beer for making it. (The root beer is the buggy.)
Then a month after that, they show you that they’ve learned how to make toast without burning it. Impressive… but the rest of the dinner is still half burned. (The toast is the DLC.)
And then that person (Bethesda) is saying they should have waited to serve you the root beer at the same time as the toast… because they think that would make you like the toast more.
And then their friend (the guy defending the company) is calling you a terrible person for not enjoying half-burned dinner, with toast and a root beer.

Let me just say, you are under no obligation to force yourself to eat half-burned dinner.
This is where the analogy breaks down… because in a real relationship, just cook with them, or take over the cooking. But in this analogy, any given player inserting themselves probably doesn’t have the skill set to make their own game. Instead, they’ve got other people that can cook for them.

Maybe a better analogy would be a pizza parlor that half burns the pizza every time. Then the buggy is adding a good dip, to dip the half-burned pizza in. And you can just go half a block down to get a pizza from a place that has good dip, and doesn’t half-burn the food.
Then they are regretting adding the dip, saying they should have waited to serve it with the bread sticks… which for some reason they don’t burn.
And the guy defending it is someone saying ‘pizza is pizza, and the ashen taste of being half-burned is just as good as non-burned pizza’.

Skyrim, for example, has been an amazing platform for modding, which has carried it for well over a decade, and this is true with consoles. But it’s not a quality game, and never has been.

Bethesda has been a style over substance, world design over world building for a long time. And their inability to acknowledge criticism means they arent going to improve anytime soon.

For every change i like there is a downgrade in things i miss. Quest design, story, factions, choice, have all been hit and continue to take hits with each game.

In skyrim the world design itself makes racial abilities moot and useless. And thats a game where race should have had an impact on the story but it never comes up. Wasted opportunity.

I was one of these people defending Bethesda back when the game released. I thought mod support and dlc would fix the issues I had but I jumped back in after mods were added to console and it still completely lacks the personality and sense of place that Skyrim and fallout 4 had. In addition the storylines are so basic, the “exploration” is practically nonexistent and in many instances the visuals are somehow worse than their previous games. They over promised and under delivered. I already bought the shattered space expansion but haven’t played a single second of, i don’t even have the game installed anymore.

    • @kamikaze9699
    • 2024年 11月 29日 9:57pm

Yeah CK3 DLC is expensive, and doesn’t even add much in comparison to what you get with free updates. But people pay it in part because you get so much in the base game. There are currently only 2 must-have DLCs, the rest fall in “if you play there” (Norse, Iberia, Persia), or add a couple features and some flavor to stuff obtained with free updates (the Plague is so much fun). There are still a lot of complaints about money-grubbing (duh, it’s a company), but it’s still easy to lose 100 hours to the base game alone (now if they could just fix laggy performance in the later eras lol).

Bethesda has released worse and worse games the more they have grown as a company. They absolutely PEAKED writing-wise with Morrowind, and gameplay-wise with Fallout 4(though writing was not very good by that point), but they never really addressed some SIGNIFICANT engine shortcomings and ongoing issues with their products. From the disasterfest of Fallout 76’s massive PR fuckups one after the other, plus extremely predatory and sometimes law-breaking monetization practices in-game, PLUS lore breaking and bugs and exploits that still have not been addressed to this day, to Starfield, which felt dated before it even released and STILL has tons of the same issues that existed from Oblivion’s game design onward and all the banning they’ve been doing when people point out legitimate criticisms, Bethesda has a PR problem. It’s also as a company absolutely ballooned in size.
It seems to me that with game development companies there is a nebulous point where the studios grow big and profitable and the passion and desire to create something of genuine quality just sort of dissipates.

You can do multiple things in a day. But there are many people whose digital ‘face’ only ever spews negativity since that’s what ‘sells’. Ergo, it can be easy for someone who is not you to reach a conclusion that the thing you ‘love’ is actually hating things, not gaming, since that is what you (people who have channels focused on negativity) do, and as the saying goes ‘by your actions shall you be known’. It does not make it true that the only thing you love is hate, but it makes it unsurprising that there will be people who reach that conclusion.

i honestly dislike bethesda games even the older ones, but one fact that will never change is that people keep looking for that sweet childhood experience in games which they will never get back no matter how good the game is because nostalgia is what keeps certain older games relevant in peoples heads.
i used to love games like crash bandicoot and spyro, the newer games were so bad i had to go back to the originals just to figure out they ain’t all that i remembered.
my point is, criticism is important, but god damn stop looking for that peak gaming you think you had when you were 14 you will never find it, neither in new games nor in the old ones.
starfield is bad yes, but skyrim wasn’t much better with it’s endless game ending bugs and what not. it shouldn’t be up to the community to make games playable in the first place so get off that “their older games are so much better” horse because they really ain’t.

Here is a thought I’ve had for Shattered Space:
It’s the perfect game for replaying, with the whole reset to a new universe. So what if they made 4 highly divergent stories? One where you meet this Cosmic Serpent that has also traveled the multiverse and you can maybe help others to start their own journey, or in the next Universe you expose the cult leader as a fraud, show them that there wasn’t and never had been a Great Serpent, then in the third one discover it’s some dead hacker’s alias and it’s an AI. Just go nuts. Would that be more exciting?

    • @SherrifOfNottingham
    • 2024年 11月 29日 9:57pm

The problem is that the game isn’t irredeemable.

It has a lot of issues, and it’s disappointing, but it’s still a game I’ve had over 200 hours of fun with.

The issue really comes down to how people get so stuck in a rut with their thinking skills that we struggle to have an actual conversation about the game’s issues, a modding community won’t exist for Starfield to “fix” the game into something great if any discussion of the game becomes a tribalist argument of “haters” and “corpo defenders” the modders will just go elsewhere.

You, making this video, are so lazy that you don’t even have gameplay footage of starfield to put under this video, you’re so lazy you’ve used the SAME FOOTAGE in multiple videos. It’s lazy and mind numbing, but there’s probably a reason for that… you know, the fact that you don’t PLAY starfield at all. I’m not trying to defend the company or the sad state of the game or it’s tepid sales numbers, but people that aren’t playing the game shouldn’t be trying to hold a discussion about the game’s actual contents, period.

What the guy in the post is trying to say is people like you are in this tribalist camp of “anybody that even plays the game is a corpo apologist” you guys are tourists in their world, voicing useless and overstated complaints they’re well aware of. They’re tired of you bringing nothing to the discussion while they search for solutions to the very problems you repeat like a broken record.

But you’re just another content mill, its sucks that he can’t deal with you spreading needless negativity everywhere you can, but you don’t bother me at all. You’re just the YouTube equivalent of Bethesda, churning out a formula that seems to deliver views and engagement to a drone of fans who comment “hmm interesting” in their various dialects having taken nothing of substance away from your videos.

Bethesda’s true downfall was Skyrim. The unending success of each new rerelease of that game inflated their egos humongously, and they thought they could do no wrong. They limped along for a while, milking the good will of their fans without ever addressing the criticisms they faced, but it all caught up with them with Starfield. Anyone with the tiniest bit of critical thinking and isn’t a groveling sycophant is able to see the problems with Starfield: tech, game design, writing, everything. And Bethesda is incapable of understanding this. Their hubris will be their end.

Let’s be 100% fair— What Bethesda pulled off with their antiquated engine that should have been replaced a decade ago, was pretty impressive.
Same with Veilguard being changed late in development from a live-service 4-player mission style game to a single-player one being an impressive feat.
But technical achievement does not make the end product fun, well written or immersive. Dare I say it— it is still a bad product.

I mean fall out 76 should have been the mask off for bethesday. The absolute tom fkery that was that game and everything surrounding even including merchandise shows just how incompetent they were on all fronts other than marketing/mtx. I honestly don’t know how they fooled anyone into thinking starfield would have been a good game after that, still baffles me to this day. I knew it would be a disaster from the start and had zero faith in their competence going forward. Some people never learn I guess and take longer to learn the same lessons. Kinda deserved if you ask me for anyone that actually bought into the starfield marketing. The writing was on the wall. I mean to begin with they expect modders to handle everything for them. This is not the same company they used to be, which can be said about a lot of companies now days. We really need to get rid of the baggage in this industry. The gaming industry is over-saturated with companies that have only lasted until now due to member berries (built off the backs of people that actually cared enough to deliver a good product and meet customer demands who are now gone, replaced by npcs) and the good will of the customers whom they don’t even respect nowdays anyways. I say get rid of them all. The people that care, will rise to the occasion just like they always do, because it is their passion and the fakers will get squeezed out. Business has always been cut throat, if you can’t adapt, can’t fill a gap in the market and meet consumer demand than its bye, bye. These companies seem to have forgotten their place, in their arrogance as they lay on the laurels of success that was built of the backs of their more talented creative seniors that actually tried to innovate. The customer is always right, its how it was and how it always will be. They take your good will for granted, they don’t deserve your benefit of the doubt and had one too many chances. If people just say no, than these companies that hate you anyways and the gaming space would not exist, stop giving them life support and for the love of god don’t buy their next game – teach them the meaning of having a bad reputation. Just pirate it, if you really want to play it for whatever reason, rather than support this garbo anti-consumer low effort company that depends on the modding community to fix and add quality of life changes to their games…they can’t even be bothered to fix old known bugs from re-releases of their older titles, that should say it all how much they actually care 😬.

its weird, Bethesda is actually not “lazy” but rather just think they are too good to be criticized. Like they make their own engine and such, and actually do more than alot of other AAA developers but simply make dumb and stupid decisions and hires story writers that dont know what they are doing. OFCOURSE they also dont inovate a whole lot on their formula which sucks, and definetly leads to the mediocre games they put out, and makes them feel almost the same. Just kinda funny to think about.

i was (KEYWORD WAS) a massive fan of bethesda for many years too, fallout 3, fallout nv, morrowind and skyrim all great games but recently it seems every choice they make is the wrong one, its almost like they dont care about gamers anymore, i play ps5 and i bought my ps5 before zenimax sold out to microsoft and it became clear to me that all they cared about is money the fact that starfield didnt come out on ps5 means that me a long time bethesda fan that if i wanna play starfield i need to buy a 2k usd pc or buy an xbox series x/s (and i did have one for 3 week) microsoft claims to have backward compatible consoles but the hard truth is that its barely backward compatible when i 1st got my xbox series x i had so many issues getting fallout 3 GOTY to work with the dlc and the when i finally got it fixed after a week of dealing with customer support i tried to make Dragon Age origins work with its dlc and with the support of microsoft i lost all my dlc i own a copy of it on disk i can see its downloaded but i dont have access to it anymore. i eventually returned the xbox series x because all i wanted it for was to play my old games i havent been able to play in a long time without my xbox 360 crashing. and as a joke i booted up my xbox 360 which has not been able to connect to anything live since they killed xbox 360 gold memberships i tried to start up DAO and loathe and behold my dlc didnt work there either again deleted and redownloaded it and i could see the dlc but i still didnt have access to it. something they told me to do made my acc forget i had access to these dlcs and that pisses me off…

It’s true. I keep playing old school games that don’t break my immersion. Harvest Moon 64… FFX-2… It’s funny because X-2 was not considered to be very well received back then. But I bet in todays age, it probably feels refreshing to any gamers giving it a try to see female characters actually looking female. Instead of the effed up designs they’ve been giving them lately…

As for the immersion issue. Starfield came out of left field with all that woke pronouns stuff and didn’t even allow the modding community to give us a chance to take it out of the game. Relentlessly fighting against gamers who have enjoyed having the freedom of near infinite options and choices with the mods they wish to apply to their Bethesda games. When I knew that wasn’t going to be an option I gave up on it entirely…

Bethesda’s biggest failure with fallout 4 was not having a new game+ option for the story. A lot of things they do make no sense in keeping their games alive.

The reddit poster is definitely delusional. Bethesda had more than 200 developers working on Starfield. No Man’s Sky had under 20 developers working on it when it launched. And the company that made it only has like 60 employees this year. They have no excuse for making that bad of a game. None.

Generous is not how I’d describe Bethesda, the fucking paid mod and horse armor people.
Reddit though, i don’t know why they do it. Surely the minor dopamine from getting upvotes is not worth it. That or maybe they’re legitimately paid off, hard to tell. Starfield was meant to be the new IP, fallout in space kind of deal. They NEEDED to hit it out of the park and they just didn’t. Modders had to fix basic stuff like menus

To quote the best review of this dlc: ‘Sharttered Space’

    • @NagaTales
    • 2024年 11月 29日 9:57pm

I will say that a lot of the early “”criticism”” of Starfield was a matter of people having mismatched expectations for the game. The constant comparisons to Elite: Dangerous, No Man’s Sky, or Star Citizen were completely unjustified, as the game doesn’t exist in the same genre. It isn’t, and never was supposed to be, a Space Sim. Approaching it as “Elder Scrolls/Fallout but in Space” provides a much more fair context for comparison, but a lot of its early reception was based on these erroneous expectations.

That said, it is not the best Bethesda has put out, and it proves that the Bethesda formula leaves gaps in the game design that are way more glaring when magnified to the scale of a game like Starfield. Where the small scale and grounded nature of Fallout and Skyrim could minimize these gaps into irrelevancy (who really cares about loading screens when most of the world is one large map, for example), the scale of Starfield tears holes in the formula too large to ignore, and their solutions weren’t particularly satisfying.

Is it a 10/10 game? Absolutely not. Is it a 5/10 game? I think that’s not being fair to what it is. It’s is, as one reviewer put it, “the most 7/10 game ever”.

when i call triple a devs “lazy” its because stardew valley has more features than any triple a game and it was made by one guy.

when i call triple a devs “incompetent” its because stardew valley has less bugs and more complete and stable product than most triple a games and it was made by one guy.

when we have teams of 100+ devs telling us that a feature or change is “too hard” i call bullshit. not trying to be a stardew fanboy but me and my gf clocked 80+ hours so far and we’re not even 25% through the content in that game. entire features and mechanics we havent discovered yet. but triple a devs want us to celebrate them for making a 15 hour dlc that adds nothing new to do in the game. we’re supposed to sing their praises when it took nearly a year and a team of developers to add a fucking vehicle to the game.

triple a devs prove, time and time again, theyre just working a job. they dont care about their, they dont care about the product and hate gamers because we’re the ones telling them their work is bad. triple a devs are the new waitors and waitresses. tell any of them your food isn’t good or you want to send it back for something else, you might as well ask them to spit in your mouth while they’re at it because its gonna be in your food anyway. but instead of spit, we just get worse and worse games. bugs that dont get fixed for months or even years and complaints about it being “too hard” to add or remove a feature.

i forgot what game it was but i remember one where the community was asking for them to just revert to the last patch before the new patch broke everything and the devs said they couldn’t because it was too hard to do that and they dont have the last patch anymore. meanwhile blizzard pretending for years that they couldnt fix anything about ow2, but just dropped ow classic, including every bug that was in the game at launch. meaning they straight up dusted of the launch files and loaded them in, just like that.

Wasting their time on the rev 8 at all and not working on the procedural slop was the mistake. I was telling diehard Bethesda fans this for weeks after it was announced. They were crying so hard about wanting a vehicle that Bethesda wasted a good 8 months on getting it to work, only to come out and as I said it would be: how fun exactly will it be driving around these 1km^2 tiles with the same repeated locations.

I think the only good point I could take from that reddit post is that the game industry is starting to change a little like the movie industry has changed in the last 30ish years (focus on actors(studio) to a focus on characters (the game itself)) were in the consumers care less and less about who is in the movie (studio that made the game) and care more about the movie itself (if the game is good)
honestly I think this is a good thing since studios will no longer be able to rely and their fanboys/girls to fund them no matter what they release.

TLDR – people don’t have the mentality of “X”studio can do no wrong and always makes good games… and has shifted to “oh boy this game looks fun I will play it”

There seems to be a prevailing attitude of entitlement amongst these developers. They don’t seem to understand that for the time and effort they put in, they’ve already been paid what they’re owed — see wages, time off, sick leave etc. When they publish a game, that’s it! Done. They are NOT entitled to anything more. Good sales, praise and awards are bonuses. They are not entitled to gamers’ money, time and certainly not their blind loyalty.

The problem is that it is not a game that you would spend as much time in as Elder Scrolls or Fallout, which is what people expect from a Bethesda game. I quit playing Starfield after about 25 hours and un-installed. I thought that the story was boring. The characters were not interesting, and the whole 1000 procedurally generated planets gimmick was poorly implemented. They would have been better off with like 30 or so well fleshed out environments instead. The only thing about it that I genuinely thought was kind of cool was the ship builder, and even that was still pretty flawed. The gunplay was alright, but it felt like fallout without VATS, which doesn’t sound good at all. I don’t think this game can be fixed.

If I put it briefly, one of Bethesda’s problems is Emil Pagliarulo. There are other issues too, but I’m too lazy to describe them. I have been (or maybe was) a fan of the studio since Fallout 3. Starfield disappointed me so much that it didn’t evoke any emotions. Thankfully, after a refund, I bought the Spyro trilogy and Crash Bandicoot 4. I have no serious expectations for TES6 or Fallout 5. If the games turn out to be like the old ones—great. If not, I still have Oblivion, Skyrim, and Fallout 3/4 modded. Plus, I’m slowly learning Unity.

As someone who discovered the company, with the Daggerfall demo, and played most of their games up to and including Starfield (which I got for free), I am convinced it is Todd’s “philosophy” of dumbing things down, for lack of a better word to describe his hilarious disconnect from what people who play games want, that started the downward spiral the company. I’ve seen a lot of interviews with the man, and I can’t think of a single really positive decision he’s made for the games.
Simplifying them for console gamers, because of some misunderstood notion that “mOdErN gAmErS” are regards who can’t figure out that putting points into a strength stat might boost your melee damage, and such. It’s ridiculous, I hope modern day Bethesda goes down in the flames they’ve so carefully stoked themselves.

    • @jeremyrichard2722
    • 2024年 11月 29日 9:57pm

It seems to me that game developers have lost sight of what their job actually is, and how their attitudes are what brought about the criticisms. A big part of their problem is to continually double down on things like DEI and wokeness and various bad design choices rather than just accept this is not what people want. They would rather flee “toxicity”, ban everyone except for yes-men from anyplace they can hear them, and seek self-validation through therapy, than admit they are the problem and bringing it on themselves.

When it comes to the politics, and yes that did affect things like Starfield, they need to realize that there is a middle ground between wokeness and hyper-conservatism. That said bad writing throughout the industry and everyone doing the same stuff, has horribly tainted people’s opinion of anything seeming to involve certain things or themes, thus they are being judged due to pattern recognition. The trick here is to recognize the problem, pivot away from DEI entirelly…. yes all straight white men, sexy women, and pretty stereotypical themes, and then once they have done that for another 8-12 years… about the time of the current woke epidemic, they pivot back and aim for the middle The trick at that point would be gradual re-introduction, and it would mean doing things like NOT making a big deal about how diverse your cast is, that you have a black hero, or a major female character is not conventionally attractive. Let people figure that out on their own, and make sure you don’t preach about it. Have the black guy just be a hero, or the non-gorgeous female character just do her thing, and focus on the writing, don’t sit there and use it to make political statements, attack white people, or demonize the male gaze. Also learn moderation… if say everyone else has a bit of diverse casting of the same type, like for example there are a lot of games featuring lesbians or whatever, then don’t do the same thing, wait for them to phase out and burn out, then do your own LGBTQ+ characters in a product when your not going to saturate the market in combination with your competition. Something like Cho-Aniki… a gay action-platformer series, actually succeeded and got a ton of installments by understanding it was a fringe project, and doing it when nobody else was doing anything similar so the market wasn’t being saturated… as opposed to now where within the western game market you can’t throw a dead cat in any direction without hitting someone in that letter pile. Situational awareness is the key, game developers used to be aware they do not exist in a vacuum, so will not be judged like it, what everyone else does around the same time will impact the judgement of your work. This is why so many successes have been credited heavily to perfect timing.

The more devs lash out at gamers, the worse this is going to get.

Also some of us realized long ago this does take a balance, as much as gamers want to believe the devs are the good guys, we are seeing due to crap like this that they do require oversight from the money people who watch the market. The best results are going to be the two sides working together. Letting the devs run wild sometimes works, but rarely, it depends on how proven they are. In the end you need to have rational people in every loop, an activist circle jerk is never going to work… the current game industry problems are not the first time this has happened either. Look at how cinema changed during the 60s and 70s compared to the 80s and 90s. It was movie people annoying the majority that caused a bit of a collapse, leading to a resurgence via patriotic movies and such during the 80s (there are always exceptions, but it was the era of the action blockbuster… some macho American body builder, mowing down foreigners or street criminals typically), and then the 90s annoyed people due to no one’s extremists being in charge, but the period of moderate pivoting and balance that occurred there lead to the IPs people are trying to mine now. Typically it doesn’t work because you have some leftists that doesn’t understand how it works and wants to take only the leftist elements and make it about nothing but that, missing the point of the careful balancing act that made it the success story it was….

Very funny bethesda… I will go to the most unhabited planet to defend starfield base gameplay, but they lost me with very overpriced dlc. Besides that the storylines were fun but very woke, my greatest joy in starfield is doing random stuff like exploring planets (i like poi games) and space battles. The base game is perfect for me, i get why people dislike the game its mostly the gameplay people didnt count on. And the main factions Quests are not well written. But for me the poi aspect and seeing what strange lifeform i can find next is amazing. That being said i dont trust bethesda anymore, im replaying skyrim and storywise its so much better. 7:20 the critic he’s talking about might be Luke Stephens. The guy recently did a video where he directly quotes BGS’ lead writer on how they don’t have a design doc.

And that BGS has grown so large that they really need to restructure themselves and use design docs because they can’t just hop into each other departments anymore to play test or try systems like they did during Skyrim’s time.

I kinda get his point. Buggy got people excited (for a week) because it was a new game mechanic. Shattered Space just added more meh, but with purple!

If they waited for buggies, they could have advertised “you’ll be able to experience purple meh WHILE DRIVING! SQUEEE!”

Fallout NV is better than Fallout 3,
Fallout London is better than Fallout 4,
Enderal is better than skyrim and, yes i will say it, the Outer Worlds altough rather forgetable is still more fun than starfield.
With Starfield, bethesda threw away the one thing that they did very well, a large open world full of wacky little things and random events to discover and explore that kept you engaged for a long time between otherwise bland quests and storylines.

Yes Todd. Releasing “a car” would definitely have solved all the expansion’s problem. This game doesn’t need good writing, or a purpose for ships outside of a glorified fast travel, or actual RPG mechanics (you know, the things you abandonned ever since skryim came out?), etc.

    • 2024年 11月 29日 9:57pm

That guy would have a point about the grifting to be made, but he just turned it into whining about people complaining about everything Bethesda does. There is definitely a point to be made about grifting and jumping on the hate train. Because I have seen so many fucking comments from morons in YouTube comments or Reddit that “Bethesda games were always bad” and “They never made a good game”. These people are mentally disabled. Bethesda is definitely in a downward spiral and disconnected from the fanbase currently, but absolutely have the chance to come back by making Elder Scrolls 6 a good game. We need to continue to call them out on their bullshit, but discrediting their previous massive accomplishments with pretty much all their games before 76 launch is fucking moronic and even more out of touch than Emil Pagliarulo. 76 launch was terrible but they turned the game into an actually good game and I have very much enjoyed it for hundreds of hours ever since the Wastelanders and Steel Reign updates came out. Its actually a good game now. Starfield is slop though.

The reason why Starfield is slop is not because theyre incompetent and cant make stuff and cant write, its slop because they took a completely wrong direction with the game, and most importantly they didnt follow “The Bethesda Formula”, which is an RPG with hand-crafted beautiful worlds, compelling, interesting and memorable characters, good stories, and meaningful choices. Paired with great gameplay of course. Starfield was a massive game by size, but thats because they focused on the exploration part like 90% of their resources and left the rest worse. Theres thousands of barren wastelands to “explore” but theres nothing to find there. If they made Starfield so that theres like 12 handcrafted unique planets with different people, aliens and everything with quests and shitton of content, and then like a 20 “empty” wasteland planets that have handcrafted empty old ruins to actually explore, find hidden unique loot and old weapons and artifcats and shit. Have them be a part of the quests that you get from those bigger planets.

If they did that and made it so that theres no procedurally generated empty planets with copypasted locations, and they didnt try to be single player no mans sky, the game could have EASILY been game of the year and a generational success story we would be telling our grandchildren about.

You’re Bethesda, it’s called Starfield, not No Man’s Sky. Do your own thing. Not copy the other guys homework with 17 grammatical errors. It was such an easy W, but they fucked it.

edit: Bethesda also completely misunderstood whats great about exploring their worlds. Not walking around empty lands, but exploration is great because in Bethesda games usually no matter where you go, you find cool shit. In Starfield, you wont find shit.

    • 2024年 11月 29日 9:57pm

In the past, BGS wouldn’t add many features or do significant updates outside of DLC.

But with Starfield, they’ve put out over 12 major updates before Shattered Space released. Updates that, in the past, likely would have been part of a DLC.

He’s just referencing the REV-8 because it was the last major update released before Shattered Space.

I don’t see what’s so wrong with what they said. You’re deliberately framing it to rage-bait, as evident by the fake quote of being _”too generous”._

They didn’t say that, and I think it’s disgusting you would deliberately create misinformation.

Not saying any of that to defend the game. Haven’t played it, haven’t bought it – I just find it interesting, the hate the internet has for this game. It’s like everyone on social media engaged in mutual mental manipulation.

The actual problem I have with the game is the atrocious story. You need to completely overhaul the story and completely remove SBI influence and DEI influence and then you can make Starfield work. You would need to actually put THOUGHT into “why” the world exists the way exists “how” people would have changed in a natural way. You need to take the actual differences between men and women into account and stop writing women like men and pretending the people in the positions of power, even amongst criminals, are all or majority women. Heck the pirate passion should be pretty much a sausage fest with some prostitutes and maybe 1 or 2 female pirates AT THE MOST! Instead of the 70/30 split favoring women as pirates.

Whoever wrote the stories on the micro and macro they all did bad work. The most impactful thing in the whole game was the unity, and that was shortlived. The TERRORMORPHS were perfect for a galaxywide threat, but it began and ended in a flash. Instead of a multiverse time traveling as an NG+ feature to try and prevent that massive threat, which was the direction I thought they were going to go, would be much better. Having multiple endings, needing to NG+ multiple times to save the galaxy would have been great, but they can’t write. This was not a player driven story. This was a dev driven story, and the devs have no creative spark.

I would say woke DEI trash is the grift, and what the gamers are voicing is the actual gigantic and colossal issues that need to be addressed before these western studios are cooked. Sony America is dying because of this “grift” yet the east is raking in the money. How many times have you heard them say Gamer hate female characters? And it put me off of all other Bethesda games, because that game is considered their magnum opus. Most games by Bethesda are not very good, and I do not need to play them to see that they have only gotten worse over time. The only way to make their games bearable is with dozens of mods. You have to fix almost everything, combat, stats, perks, spells, skills, AI, visuals, items, UI/hud, you might as well add new story/dungeons too, because god knows the devs didn’t write anything worth playing through.

    • 2024年 11月 29日 9:57pm

If you ever get baffled over Bethesda being weird and out of touch remember this:

Oblivion – by lore Cyrodiil is supposed to be a tropical jungle.
It got retconned in Oblivion to temperate woods with literally 4 sentences in one book in the game, nobody ever mentions it:
“‘You have suffered for me to win this throne, and I see how you hate jungle. Let me show you the power of Talos Stormcrown, born of the North, where my breath is long winter. I breathe now, in royalty, and reshape this land which is mine. I do this for you, Red Legions, for I love you.”

    Why?
Because LoTR was the big thing at the time, Toddler watched LoTR and wanted to capitalise on this. I’m not even kidding.
That is why Cheidinhall city is said to have Dunmer architecture but looks nothing like Morrowind, but rather walmart Rivendell.
That is why Ayleid ruins look very LoTR-like.
That is why Mythrill armour looks like carbon-copy of Frodo’s chainmail.
That is why Dremoras look like discount Orcs and their equipment is shoddy and degraded instead of meticulously crafted daedric gear we’ve seen in previous games.
That is why Elven armour looks like discounted version of armour you see on Elves at Helms Deep.
That is why Legion wears plate armour instead of roman-inspired gear – because Gondor guards had plate.

The “mask off” moment is literally problems all the way back from Morrowind finally catching up with them.
The way they have been milking Skyrim and Fallout 4 along with disastrous Fallout76 means they needed to pull their A game for Starfield. Instead it was mediocre at best.
“Critics that dont have any clue about what goes into game development” line doesn’t hold any water when we have both Obsidian and many other fan projects and mod maker using Bethesda’s very own tools to craft much better experience than Bethesda. The unpaid gamers are putting out better work than supposed professionals who are in this business more than 2 decades.

Hey @Hero Hei i somehow get the logic of what they are saying. A lot of people complained about the DLC because it lacked features right? I assumed that the rover is a new feature and in their perspective, they think that they shouldve released the rover inside that dlc so that the dlc wont be devoid of new features since it has a rover in it. So theyre asking themselves, maybe they shouldve bundled it in the dlc instead, not release it a few weeks earlier so that the dlc can be felt even more.

im not defending them though, im just stating their perspective. i dont play starfield but i just dont want to hate blindly like “oh its bad, lack updates” so i think it wouldve actually helped if yiu highlighted the responses of the gamers on why the dlc was bad and even if they release the rover with the dlc, it wouldnt make much difference because its not the main point of the complaint the community has.

You can’t add soul to a game. That comes in its story, characters, dialogue, gameplay, beauty, sorrow, and passion. When those things are in perfect harmony, it creates a thing called soul which makes it memorable. When those things are out of sink or missing your game is soulless. So from then on it doesn’t matter what you add, fix or take away. You can’t add soul to it because the very foundation is misaligned. This is the same thing for almost every AAA game coming out today. They are all missing sorrow, passion, and beauty. Which is fundamental to art and relatability. You have nothing without beauty. You have nothing without sorrow, and you have nothing without passion. Those are the most important things that needs to be in harmony with each other to make a great game and art. Something like Dragon Age or Starfield is missing all three let alone all the other elements I talked about.

    In a way they’re right
The car allowed you more access to the planet maps in less time and there’s nothing on the planets, leading to a quicker realization that the game is straight up not developed to an acceptable extent for 70 freaking dollars, there is NOTHING TO DO on most planets. And then they expect you to pay even more money for a very small amount of things to do that adds nothing or fixes anything about the base game. There is less content then any of the other games they made and no DLC can fix that.
They expect people to add things to their empty spaces, but modders have to actually like your game first.
The car is not the reason this game failed. The car is the reason it made less money because it led to less people being deceived. That’s all. That’s all that matters to them. Not to make a good game that sells, but to make a bad game that doesn’t sell and lie about it. How is this sustainable profitwise?

So, crazy take: Starfield is a good game. In fact, it might even be great…for a game released in 2012. Had this come out in place of Skyrim, it would be amazing. But for something in the modern day, it definitely feels rough.

I want to like it, but every time I play it, it just feels like a worse No Man’s Sky.

Sadly, I’m not sure ‘voting with your wallet’ will even work on Bethesda. There are too many people who will buy anything with the ‘Elder Scrolls’ or ‘Fallout’ label on it. They might regret it, but they’ll have forgotten the lesson by the next game.

They didn’t bother marketing Shattered Space because they had already made most of the sales they were going to make with the Deluxe edition. As a result, they put in the minimum effort possible. No doubt the next DLC will have a marketing push to amp up hype, as they will need the sales. It is unlikely the effort in producing a good product will be much improved.

Go watch path of exile 2 trailer and content, these guys are about to drop the best arpg follow up to their already best arpg on the market. Its insane what a group of passionate devs can do, watch them constantly provide free to play content for the past 15 years and they keep on going. You do need to pay though for poe2 access, which is imo sad but understandable. Just insane work from those guys.

Starfield just had to be Fallout 4 in space, all they really had to improve was the dialogue choices. And they did improve the dialogue choices… but watered everything else down to the point of being worse than Fallout 4 in every other way. Every gameplay aspect of it is overly simplified and dumbed down to the point where it’d be more fun just to play Fallout 4 again.

It’s always embarrassing reading posts like that reddit thread. That somehow people got it in their head that they “owe” something to the devs, or that speaking out against devs is toxic and “entitled”, like there needs to be some kind of support community for the people making a product from the people who are supposed to buy the product. It’s one thing I absolutely hate about the gaming community in general, this parasocial relationship they have with devs. These people are a COMPANY who make a PRODUCT that you get to CHOOSE whether or not you buy. You are not beholden to them. You don’t owe them anything besides the money you choose (or don’t choose) to spend on their game.

The internet gave people a chance to voice their opinions about products publicly… which should be considered a boon so that companies can know what works and what they did wrong. Instead it’s become a common trend in the industry to consider customers ENTITLED for complaining, for not wanting to spend on microtransactions, or for commenting about how a game that was marketed towards them does everything in its power to NOT appeal to them. Don’t ever let a COMPANY tell you that you’re wrong for voicing your opinion. If they don’t want to hear why they’re failing, that’s on them. But you don’t owe them shit. Not respect, not empathy, not support, and least of all not your fucking money (unless the product is something you actually want).

This is why Xbox is fucked as a whole: rather than addressing all the issues people have pointed out with Bethesda and their design philosophy, they instead make strawmen to beat up and act like they dealt with all the issues when, in reality, they have dealt with none of them. And it’s worse when you have the head of Xbox backing this sort of mindset.
