The issue with Bethesda is that their writing staff gave up on the ambition to make a great story.
They never managed to, so they view it as imposible and blame the gamers for unobtainable standards, while games like Cyberpunk, Baldurs Gate and other games with better story telling exist.
There are a few great sub-quests in Starfield. It’s the main story that failed for me.
That was a great mission.
So easy to find this quest too. “Another hand touches the beacon, I mean data pad.”
Was that Merlwyb?
The reward is the only unique armor set in the entire game which is both hideous and had completely random stats. It’s gross to look at AND functionally useless unless you want to save scum in front of the door to get the armor before it generates stats
I actually found the lair of the mantis really tedious. My favorite experiences were some of the derelict ships you can find, like the one that had basically had the film _Alien_ take place on it.
Too bad it’s one of three good quests in the game. You can tell because everyone seems to have the same quests that stick out to them. Mantis, Terrormorph and usually the colony ship or Walter’s artifact mission.
Everyone who tries to do Christian Bale Batman impression ends up sounding like Donald Trump lmao
That is the best mission
It’s one of the best ships you can get for early game.
“It’s not a perfect game but that mission was cool as hell”
Starfield in a nut shell.
Not only was it the best quest in the game.
It was also the only good one. Seriously, what a pile of trash that was, even by Bethesda’s standards.
space batman, was enjoyable when i stubled over that one.
Someone enjoyed starfield..?
…That outfit looks like a cyberpunk goth tampon applicator.
So seems like Jesse can make Starfield better than Bethesda can. Because even his joking voice is better acting than most in the game.
Do Bethesda not have *any* new ideas anymore? This is just a slightly different version of The Silver Shroud from Fallout 4, and even then they’d already done the “comic character cosplay” idea back in Fallout 3 with the Mechanist and the Antagonizer.
The first and last cool mission in the game.
A space batman outfit that looks ridiculous.
Starfield? More like Starfailed!
I think that sort of quest that did it for me was the crimson fleet’s first mission in searching for the legacy, descending down onto a hoth style planet, discovering a prison that was overrun by aliens and covered in ice and debris, it was something out of a space flick for me.
I know everyone loves to hate Starfield cause it wasn’t actually what Bethesda promised, which is a very fair reason to be angry with it.
However, I only ever expected and wanted Space Fallout where I could build my own ships and that’s exactly what I got. Built a Necron scythe style ship and dicked around until I finally finished the story. So for me it was great.
What the heck? I missed that part of a stream?
So far i think the one Jesse did the other day with the “ghost” was awesome. Cant wait to see what the end of that mission is.
My fav part about that quest is that the whole facility was meant for The Mantis’ son who is just some office worker who dies lmao
yeah that one is up there but my favorite has to be Operation Starseed, very much some of that fallout DNA showing up in the game.
The problem with starfield is starfield is a perfectly serviceable game. It just hyped itself up too much and promised too much, and so the customers got disappointed. It’s this unfortunate situation where companies want their next game to be an even bigger best seller, so they promise the moon but they fail to give you even a flyby.
Companies need to learn that steady growth and moderate success is what makes companies stick around, not going all out every time to potentially lose it all.
“its not a perfect game”
i just wish people were just more brutally honest in general.
Yes the Mantis is by far the coolest quest in the game. Too bad there aren’t more like it.
Starfield is the best Bethesda can do so I am kinda done I feel no need to fuck with Bethesda when we have CDPR
After having Fallout Batman in Fallout 4 – 30 years in the making and it’s the same shit because they only know how to make Skyrim and Skyrim accessories.
What finally made Starfield click for me was treating it as Mass Effect — clicking a named quest and treating it like a linear mission, fast traveling everywhere. The named quests are… Actually surprisingly really good? The procgen content is just terrible though, like, the fort dungeons in Oblivion terrible.
Yeah but that $48,000 tier though.
The problem with the borderline unmissable Mantis quest is that it isn’t just “one more of countless interesting things to find in this vast world” it’s one of like 20 and the rest is auto-generated. I’ve completed all notable quests in Starfield and it legit feels like it has less points of interest than Skyrim. Just miles upon miles of the same machine generated slop.
I like the unmarked quest that has you visit a POI that’s just a long narrow corridor. You can hear something banging against metal at the far end of it, and as you get closer it gets louder and louder. When you finally get there it’s a dead end, and a terrormorph spawns behind you. Probably Bethesda’s best attempt at horror and shows what this game can be when placed in the right hands.
Alot of quests in this game were amazing, and I would agree this quest looks the best. Sadly so many quests in the game had major game breaking glitches that made them impossible to complete if they happen. The worst offenders is the clone quest and the pioneer generational ship quest. Clone for the shear number of glitches that can happen and how specifically you have to end it to prevent the last one it’s so bad. While there is no avoiding the generational ship’s glitch that prevents it from ever reappearing when it’s supposed to be randomly space hopping after the main quest is done.
I don’t know if Bethesda ever got around to fixing any of them though, but I really hope they did.
Enjoy it….. while you still have it….
It looks so cringe what a bad outfit. So blocky
. Ill never take any advice from something sponsored.
The “best quest” in Starfield is not playing Starfield.
What get from this is Jesse wants a space ghost game
There was a TVshow about a millionair getting shot by a police sniper, sued them, lost the case, and then made a exoskeleton, tries its out, becomes a vigilant in the progress.
That sounds cool, but goddamn, that Mantis costume looks awful 😫
Maybe I should give Starfield a try….
Sick
From one Jesse to another, I’m happy for you and your experience, but that mission bugged on me and I cannot complete it.
One of the best parts is; if you fly around in the ship, the enemies will sometimes recognize it as the Mantis’ ship, and start fleeing
ah, found the cumb on the chalk tasting icecream
Ah yes, The Mantis. The Space Batman of the setting.
