As a person who plays mostly solo 1500 scrap for a heli** that can be stolen and kamikaze’d into the ground is not a step in the right direction for this game. I feel that they should stay the way they were before for small heli’s only. The big heli’s should have to be bought that would help with clans being overpowered. I like the thought but its making the game way less manageable.

these updates are ruining rust ! they should add a new weapon or work on people getting better frames instead of adding this new random crap that makes the games so much worse!!! I have over 2000 hours and i miss the old rust like when mini copter first came out not this crap!

You won’t see as many helis now, resulting in less Sam sites. Can you imagine buying a heli and flying bases as they all salivate and scheme for your heli. It will give door camping a new meaning and base designs will become very interesting. Players will raid heli bays now.

im so glad that we who got the “wrong” mouse have been blocked from playing.. this game is still the same and i dont know the point of vehicles when map is very small by default on cracked server Kortal walking from one side to another took you 1h30min and thats when vehicles are useful. it was a map where you used balloons, boats, helis .. every aspect of game was fun but these default maps where every base is on every square meter its rly boring and retarded.. btw size of that cracked server map was 14k i think

I’m not a rust player, however, I watch a lot of youtubers. And I’m excited about these changes. Gonna make the game a lot more dangerous when you can’t randomly find a heli to go grab loot off your body at oil rigs.

Any group smaller than 4 might as well forget getting a mini on vanilla servers, this is quite possibly the worst update. Once they balance the cost it won’t be as bad in my opinion

I think they should add a vehicle Station. so like they have for cars but where you can keep mass in them so you can keep your vehicles longer. like a TC but for you cars/heils/boats. would be cool

The changes to helis seem to be mainly targeted at preventing people from using them to mindlessly kamikaze bases, and also makes it much more difficult to counter things like cargo or oil rig without some serious up front investment. The prices seem a bit steep for solo/duo players though. I normally use one to just zip back and forth to the safe zones so I get gooned by zergs.

On the staging branch as of 6/28 mini-copter and scrap heli are both 50% off. Mini-copter costing 750 scrap and scrap heli costing 1500.

I feel like helis should be like cars in rust where you have to find parts and to build it you can only go to bandit and the air wolf can make it for you. Additionally you can pay the 1.5k scrap or find the parts on your own.

What I think the next update needs to happen and yes it will be HUGE.

Add a 6 Month Wipe and a Year Wipe

But the current biggest map is 5000 how about make it 45000 and it would be HUGE and allow over 800 players on it at a time and this can be strictly for people with powerful rigs or with consoles (Optimized) to play the 6 month wipe. I’d love that, because the time it takes me to get BP’s and start getting resources and wanting to build a farm takes for EVER AND be being a solo, it’s very hard to get BP’s and resources.. So with a 6 month wipe with a map big as 45000 it would be a hit! 🙂

On one side it’s sick cause finally ground pvp again and not everyone having full metal ak within 2h of wipe on the other side it’s way harder to progress now and if you decide to buy a mini you cant lock it and I can already hear some grubs jumping over my high stone wall to steal my 1500 Scrap to crash it into the wall and curse at me in russian or turkish

i think the most annoying about outpost/banditcamp is when u kill someone outside outpost then u come in , you are hostile / if you shoot without hitting anyone while being outside the safe zone makes you hostile , that is pretty dumb .

A lot of solos saying this will be bad, but I disagree. Largely it will be clans with helis now, but we’re going to get a lot less heli roaming, heli divebombing, instant heli raid and oil counters….
Currently you can’t so much as eoka a stone wall without getting your raid high-jacked by bored no-lifers sitting in on their roofs waiting to hop in a minicopter. Even clans will be far more careful with how they use helis because there are actual consequences to poor resource management (as there should be in a survival game)

The addition of bandit being a safe zone is a great update, the cost is WAY too expensive…500 scrap for mini, 750-1000 for scrap seems much more close….id actually prefer the regular spawn rate but that if you have more than 1 heli within a certain radius the other blows up so you cant horde helis

Having NPC Selling Helis? woah its like the Indian dude took my job, i was that guy who sold helis, made hella scrap like almost 6 thousand scrap through a whole wipe, and when i went on a “heli run” i would bring 4-5 minis back and usually 2 scraps heli’s, 400 scrap for a scrap heli and 250 for a mini, we did runs like 3 times a day

Helis transformed the game of rust when they were introduced and I will be the first to admit that I really didn’t like people flying around getting an admin view of houses from above. Being able to easily fly into your compound sucked at first. Helis just landing on top of your base seemed op at first.

Since then I’ve Gotten Good at flying and quite enjoy them and the fact that they’re kind of just throw away and you can crash them and not care maybe fun but not very realistic…

Frankly though, unless you can lock these helis and make them difficult to destroy like a TC or something, 1500 scrap is just way too much and will effectively take the helis out of the game again.

Time to jump in a car I guess! All good…

Instead of monetizing the helis they should first fix the part where oil rig chinook crate icon staying on even after the crate is opened. Only because some loot is left in it must not mean that some players must clear the scientists, use the red key card just to find an unlocked crate with a snow jacket in it. Subject to change! They better change it considering Mini is: Weaker, can only carry 2, and is less secure.
It is designed for solos or duos, of course, so they should have a fair price. Decay should take 1-1.5 days due to the cost, especially for solos.
Scrap Heli is: Reinforced, can carry 2 + as many as you can fit in the back (2-4x more than mini!), and is protected far more heavily by layers of scrap.
The decay should be 1 – 0.75 days (or less), as large groups can affored the cost and can be on more.
Mini should be 400-700 scrap imo, while Scrap Heli is designed for groups, so it’s cost can stay around 2500-3000 scrap. If the mini were to be around the higher cost range, the passenger should be able to shoot (I actually don’t know if they already can, they probably can though).
Personally the choice to remove helis from roadsides is a great idea, as now if you want to travel you go with cars. Helis should absolutely be for one who is able to pay up in exchange for free-flying and all. However you also have to carefully balance and think about how people will use things, how well the helis compare to each other, and their own vulnerabilites.
I hope facepunch really gets their balancing right…

For anyone wondering, 1.5k scrap for a 8-15man clan is not hard, that is doable in 15-30mins, for a solo, that would take much, much longer. Hopefully we will see the prices being brought down

You can’t just introduce the mechanic of mini copters to the game for a year then just yank them out of players’ reach, this completely changes gameplay in a rather quick manner. I understand the scrap heli, given that large groups are richer and need to pay up, but as a solo player do you think I want to farm for 45 minutes just to get a mini copter to fly to the snow for a quick farming run? After all, this is mostly all they’re good for after the monument fix for flying into key card puzzle rooms.

i think people should still be able to sit in the heli that you bought but only if their in your team and are restricted to only the passenger seat. Alternative they could make it so that you can still ride in the drivers seat, but non team members are restricted to the passenger seat only.

Will Rust ever come to the mobile platform? There is so many knock offs (ex: last island of survival, a full on poorly made knock off of rust in… tpp. may god help us) the entire mobile community wishes so badly rust will come to mobile, I really hope a dev reads this and notices how big and important the mobile community is and how badly rust needs to come to mobile 🙁

To everyone who thinks 1500 for a heli is too much, it’s the point. The introduction of cars is ment to be the new stop gap for vehicles tiers. It gives you the choice of either a harder to lose, but slower car or faster but more expensive and easier to lose heli. The choice is yours
