Meh, the useless bps were easy found when hammering barrels so thats not the worst. This system without doubt costs even more scrap for the best items. An AK for 750 is a whole lot better than one for 3k, par example.

I think that the old way was better, more random, and harder.
Random research is anyway a HUGE WASTE of time and resources, NEVER DONE A RANDOM RESEARCH.
Rust is a surviving game but with such updates, it will become just another shooter with not much randomness that made the game special.
While you must survive there are not CLEAN paths to follow.

I think the ak or just most of the end game loot it gets rid of the need to snowball

If you research a physical item – I think you should get a discount in scrap cost to research. As you physically have the item, as opposed to spending scrap. Like the concept but sense many tweaks and changes to come before implemented [or hope at least].

The new tech tree is an amazing way to get new blueprints on all workbenches. It’s a much better way of getting all blueprints instead of wasting thousands of scrap trying to get an item you want. It’s a much cheaper way to get blueprints now. Instead, you get to select the blueprint (if you have the path of course) so I personally think it’s an amazing addition to rust.

Very cool. it does also mean that groups of 4 or more just farm for scrap for 3 hours and get end game shit. been raided twice already and only on day 2 of wipe!!!!

There should be different tabs on the level 3 workbench for the level 1 and 2 benches and a tab for the level 1 on the level 2 etc. so that then you wont need all 3 workbenches in your base at once.

So Im assuming when you lose your workbench you lose the items that you researched in the tech tree

This sucks bro everyone is gonna have every blueprint. No point in going to oil in hopes of a rocket when it’s easier just to farm scrap and get it that way much faster. Ruins part of the game in my opinion

Rust trains you to be a begger

Wonder if there will be a plug in to unlock path(click on item you want and will show how much scrap needed for path to be unlocked). If you have said scrap it unlocks all items in that path automatically. For larger x servers this would make unlocking all blueprints with few clicks. For low x servers it would help if anything not doing math.

I think it’s the right path but I don’t like it as is. I can just make a base in a remote location and farm barrels or water and eventually I’ll get AK. I think to get the best items in the game you should need to go to the hardest places in the game. Mil tunnels, launch site, heli and oil rig. The hardcore content should reward you with the best gear. I can agree with the tier 1 tech tree, but for 2 and 3 we really need a better system. Maybe keep the tree but make a currency that only drops on green and elite crates? I dunno. Cheers

LOVE TECH TREE! Think its going to make smaller groups and solos have more of a chance.

Great change overall, only thing im slightly worried about is one person hogging even more blueprints now as it makes no sense to give blueprints acquired from research table to other people. If you funnel everything to one person in your group, it’ll be cheaper to get to the bottom of the tree for that person. This is obviously not true for all trees, i.e electricity which looks like a standalone thing that you can ignore if you dont care about it.

I think it would be cool to have like a switch in workbenches,like u can switch to work bench 2(TREE) if u have lvl3,so that u dont have to craft a whole new workbench just to get one thing learned

Late to the catchup of all of this, it all looks really interesting!
I came to Rust after the level system and when you had to gather pieces of a blueprint, so seeing this makes me thing they are really on the right track!
It gives everyone a chance to get what they need, while still letting chads fast track their way to guns, the same way they always have

I really think this has some great potential for chancing the game for the better. This way people can explore different ways of playing the game to get to tier 3 stage of the game.
Also what I think would be a great addition since scrap is now gonna be the most valuable thing in the game. Have more different ways of getting scrap. like the little shops within bandit camp and outpost where you can trade in goods for scap.
But than just more scattered across the map.
– So you can have things like a lumberjack place where you can trade in wood for scrap.
– have an actual mine place where you can trade in stone / metal and stuff for scrap
– have a food market where you can trade in animal meat for scrap or plants for scrap .
Without this neclating running monuments and pvping because these will still be the main way to get scrap quick. But have different things like that which make you able to have different ways to get the blueprints you want

Hmmm….randomly receiving a bp with chance of getting something good, or spending 1000s of scrap on shit you dont want in first place. I rather go random

Totally agree with this. I think the grind for finding something is quite annoying I think this would be a very refreshing change, without really destroying the main grind for the high tier items.

I hate this. Part of the excitement is finally finding that gun or explosive or killing someone who has one. I just think that’s what makes rust rust other than player interaction. This is just not it for me

This is basically the same thing though. Instead of getting the item you want directly, you are FORCED to unlock a bunch of useless shit to unlock the ability to research it, whereas before it was luck. Sometimes you would get LUCKIER than what you would have hoped for

I would add an option that when you click on a specific item, it says “unlock path for X amount of scrap” so I already know how much it is going to cost, and it could make the unlock quicker

I think is very good, but prices should then increase a bit, because since you will not make experimentation, you will use less scrap to a specific item. So increasing price will balance it a bit.

Not for this, shots suppose to be hard to find, now with enough scrap you can get any blueprint with out any work besides farming the road or trading hemp..

It would be better imo if you could switch tech trees with the tier 2 and tier 3, like when using a tier 3 workbench; you can switch to a tier 1 and tier 2 tech tree so it wouldn’t waste space

I’m not as impressed by the tech tree as many here. Completing the branch to reach the garage door still wastes a bunch of scrap on items you don’t want/need. It’ll still work out quicker/cheaper to buy it from someone’s shop or trading in chat, than gathering loads of scrap and then tech-tree researching every item along the way.

Luck was on the side of solos/small groups. Now all you need to get bps is lots of scrap, so large groups have even more of an advantage than they did before.
forcewipe: clans get explosives within hours not having to worry about not being able to find them to bp. More solos wake up to being offlined.

i kinda hate it tbh, just cuz rust is getting more and more just a scrap game. i mean i can buy helis with scrap now, boats, horses and cars/careparts. And with this even all the other stuff is buyable ez, i mean u could trade it before, but u always had to find another player that sells and, get there and on and on…. with this i see no reason in building near monuments, i just build along a long road, somewhere at a part of the map where nobody comes and farm that road everyday, everynight and in like 4h i have ak, without doing 1 bit of pvp.

this makes playing solo that much harder. They might as well make recyclers craftable if they want to remove the incentive for players to leave their bases.

This is a great change and I am so glad they finally changed the BP system. It was the one thing that stopped me from playing more vanillas.

Should research costs match the item? Should researching clothing items cost scrap metal or should it cost cloth?
Should researching bullets cost scrap metal or gunpowder? So they went with one currency to keep things simple, not perfect but still better than randomly generated blueprints.

imo they have to remove the reserche banch and the tech tree will be as it. its look more clear and better, the important think is the reserche banch is no longer grab your space so more place for box. and u know now no people who have ak in 5 minutes cus u need to spend ur scrap on other items to get it blooprint, so summarizing rust be more difficult and not eazy to have 2 boxes of ak’s

Flak, the fact that they wont take item research from the old system wont stop the zergs getting aks on the first few hours, the only thing this will change is making life for solos slightly easier, yet still leaving zergs life completly easy… if they would to push the tech tree system only, no researching from a research table, zergs would get a lot more annoying to do, since there would either need to be more scrap wasting rather than buying helis for days or there would have to be somebody sitting in the base crafting meds for days for hes 10 mates…

so if u learn semi by research bench passing the tree can u craft it?

Better for solos and duos grinding scarp for absolutely trash experiments. Gives a bit of a goal without empty hands towards the end.

FINALLY A TECH TREE Ive been wanting this forever! It makes progression so much easier for those who struggle to get a foothold

take out the ak, rocket , explosive, and c4 because those are the most important thing in rust and with this tier 3 shit it would be easier and be cheaper to speedrun rust.

For someone who loves gathering scrap and hates getting into pvp because I know my enemies will always have better gear this is a very welcome change 😀

this tech tree will be amazing for solos. i’m playing on a monthly wipe server and the SAR was the last tier 2 blueprint i learned. i was truly abandoned by the RNG gods.

Eh, is it just me or is it worse? Instead of a chance to get semi the first time you research, now you have to get the wooden shudders and the wooden spikes and all those worthless bps to unlock the path to the gun. Obviously not those specifically, but now you have to unlock those worthless items first, and spend more time because you have to waste your hard earned scrap on them. I prefer the current system, sorry not sorry.

What this means is that the hemp farm bases are going to be on everyones list and that bigger clans such as zergs will be able to unlock items even faster ( also farmers since you will need just a scrap ), so more people are going to be get to the late game, we will have to see if thats is a good or bad thing …

i’m extremely excited for this update. i play duo or trio and it’s just going to give everyone in the game guns. which i’m all for. i want to shoot people more. this update will speed up the process a lot. i would imagine facepunch is going to tune it month after month but i’m so excited!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I play Zerg style and I still think this is shit. A solo now has to take things like a P2 to eventually reach a SAR. We won’t care about it because we can get way more scrap, but the poor solos are going to be stuck spending SOOOO much time by comparison going through useless BPs

I would like a system more focused on the tree rather than research table, would love a complete use of tier1, tier 2 and tier 3 guns instead of jumping from bow/compound bow to SAR and than AK
