I DO LOVE Missile Launchers but I’m wary of constant new additions…..
The reasons i generally HATE the constant addition of unnecessary bells and whistles:
Coz RUST WAS, originally, THE PERFECT GAME (because, it was like Chess, *_fundamentally challenging to gradually build up from nothing!_* – _U shouldn’t fix what isn’t broken!…_ Just like the game Chess…u don’t add new types of pieces or give existing ones new powers!) – WORST change of all was when they broke Tier 1-3 gradual PROGRESSION! (Adding monuments and events(Chinook crate is where it started), so ppl can get all tier 3 stuff on DAY 1 of the wipe was INSANE, to me, back then!😳🙄 _IMHO, it TOTALLY ruined that beautiful, ‘everyone has to PROGRESS THROUGH rock, tier 1, tier 2 → tier 3, over DAYS or even a WEEK or two!!!_ _(For monthly wipes.)_
^ That is what made it so unique and always a challenge. That and base building and raiding etc meant that no matter how basic the game was, it had endless possibilities and every wipe was different and your play style/objectives were only limited by your imagination!
^ It still is, but letting us JUMP to Tier 3 gear on DAY 1, WIPED OUT a HUGE PORTION OF THE JOY of PROGRESSION. 😥

The homing missiles seriously should not target minis, that would be a perfect way to reward smaller groups. Yeah clans would probably end up getting minis instead of scraps but then they’re way easier to shoot out. It’s pretty dumb that it targets minis and one shots them, as well as one shotting the TWO THOUSAND TWO HUNDRED AND FIFTY SCRAP chopper, tho at least that can deploy flares easily.

Also the fact that now instead of just worrying about sams you also need to worry about players with launchers is insane.

Can you fire without a lock on? Like fire while halfway scanned then when its midway it fully locks on?

Liquid in his Arsenal : 4 homing in missiles and a chaingun m2 at his deployment.
Solid Snake’s arsenal : 1 Stinger equal to a homing rocketlauncher
The Fight : Solid Snake hits Liquid with missiles bringing his chopper down while this stinger can avoid obstacles around the corner : aim . lock on fire from another angle to hit the target in anyway possible taking about 20 missiles to take liquids poor chopper down.
While Snake must stay hidden avoiding and dodging every incomming bullets and incomming homing missiles that bleep while incomming.
Let’s go back to the RUST stage
In Rust this homing rocketlauncher is not really homing missiles because you still need to post-aim at the patrol Heli or an unexpecting poor player and take it down in Just 4 strikes for a player attack heli only 1 hit will do that is unfair and is not fun
Poor Snake so much work inspite your heavilly advanced stingerlauncher needing still 20 missiles while the noob version takes 4 is unfair i would suggest and bring it to the subject table because this needs tweaking SO SUBJECT TO CHANGE INDEED make it lock at target withiut post aim and make it more costly to take down the attack heli or patrol heli even while firing from a slight corner while staying hidden.
In rust : no place to HIDEO but i guess that horse will agree with you and when not mr wolf will or the waddly cuddly deadly Polar Bear

And you have to stay locked on? That’s not really how heat-seeking missiles work as far as I know. If they make them wire-guided instead you could shoot anything without having to wait for a lock. I can understand the decision from a balancing perspective.

So many things wrong with this homing missile launcher imo. People are just going to have one in a box right next to their roof and just jump and use them if they hear a scrap heli or mini flying by, which is awful because people already hate roof camping and the like, OR people are just going to use them to take down atk heli. Plus typical video game development making the game worse for solos. It’s nice that they thought of the ability to just throw flares out but as a solo as you really expected to switch seats and throw a flare and then switch back? I guess no having a mini as a solo anymore?

I love hot air balloons. My favorite form of travel in this game, mainly because I love using “off-meta” items and what not, but who on earth is spending 150 scrap for a hot air balloon? Hopefully that gets lowered a bit because people ignore hot air balloons like the plague atm so why would Facepunch think 150 scrap is a good cost for one?

Quite dislike all of these recent changes.

They really should work on the server pages to find servers that were wiped by hour and a reputation system for consistent from facepunch since it just sucks to dedicate time to a server and then it just starts lagging, everyone quits, your wipe effort is not over, player retention as well is a good one that maybe players could user to show how active they are before making alliances because people just leave, and then you are solo again.

I still think that face punch should invest more in early game, most of the time I dont even reach those later stages of the game since it just takes too long to get there or you ended up wiped in the process. I like the grind process of going from rags to riches but maybe they could invest on a system to make the initial gameplay more enjoying, rather than being miserable most of the time, not guns and stuff like that, just make the initial stages of the game more manageable.

I love the model for the launcher, that Yagi antenna does make sense for communication with the missile. Lore-wise I don’t know if it uses a rudimentary active radar guidance, or heat-seeking. The flare countermeasures mean it’s definitely heat-seeking, but the ELINT tone in the helis indicates they’re being painted by radar. Or maybe it’s hybrid TV and radar, and the bright flares screw with the camera targeting?

So, can one flare with the proper timing send the Missile off course? Because for the cost of one flare (10 GP/10 Metal Frags) vs the current cost of one Missile (3 Pipes/300 GP/1 Tech Trash) it seems like the Missile would not be worth it to most. I also wonder if the flares could be used against SAM sites in the future even though they only “target” air vehicles.

I dunno but it’s my opinion that some updates have diminished the experience of vanilla servers. Some things are just to powerful. Attack chopper is the best example , why on earth would they allow that to be added to the game is beyond me.

Face Punch what targeting system is being used is an IR targeting system or LIDAR maybe it is a Passive Radar, each type of system takes a different type of countermeasures, flares (can sometimes beat a IR missile) or chaff (won’t work because it wont stay between the emitter and target). What will work is braking the line of sight or speed.
Yes I know it is a game but these systems have a range limitations also have engagement time limits, from tone to launch or when the BCU is broke about 45 seconds or until launch but they are not reusable. Again, yes I know its a game.

The rocket launcher would be so much better if it requires 2 to operate properly one needs to lock on and one needs to use a rc remote to fine tune it’s travel. So it could be used in solo but it’s less likely to be abused by one guy sat on his roof

I could explain the launcher a lot better. You see the missile knows where it is at all times. It knows this because it knows where it isn’t. The guidance subsystem uses deviations to generate corrective commands to drive the missile from a position where it is to a position where it isn’t, and arriving at a position where it wasn’t, it now is. Consequently, the position where it is, is now the position that it wasn’t, and it follows that the position that it was, is now the position that it isn’t.
In the event that the position that it is in is not the position that it wasn’t, the system has acquired a variation, the variation being the difference between where the missile is, and where it wasn’t. If variation is considered to be a significant factor, it too may be corrected by the GEA. However, the missile must also know where it was.
The missile guidance computer scenario works as follows. Because a variation has modified some of the information the missile has obtained, it is not sure just where it is. However, it is sure where it isn’t, within reason, and it knows where it was. It now subtracts where it should be from where it wasn’t, or vice-versa, and by differentiating this from the algebraic sum of where it shouldn’t be, and where it was, it is able to obtain the deviation and its variation, which is called error.
