They fight to prove one another is willing to use lethal force but if they went all out their armies would be killed in their fight, making the entire battle pointless. So they have to hold each other at bay unless one gets a distinct advantage

The real reason gods need armies is it takes a massive toll on their bodies.

The only unique individual it does not take a toll in, is Clive and thats why he is to be mythos, Ultimas vessel.

Just like how Shiva and Titan’s clash in the beginning. They didn’t fight to the death. They only fought for a brief moment and leave with a massive deaths on the field.

It seems many people didnt get this scene, as mentioned many times in the lore, Eikons are like weapons of mass destruction, if one uses it the other will use it too causing mutual destruction just like irl. The short fight was enough to prove that point as many soldiers got nuked by both sides.

There are people outside that complain about this game, I am one step before the last fight, did every sidequest and huntquest, just everything. And I will do it again after finishing the game. How are there people outside saying this game is bad? (And this game gets me back playing ff14)

The goal wasn’t to kill the soldiers, it was to make Odin fall back to avoid unnecessary destruction

Eikons shows up in battlefield to raise soldier morals and raise casualties too.

Bahamut Megaflare is feared breath of death and Zantetsuken of Odin is famous 1 hit blow kill. They used them against each other and knew they would not survive direct hit of each other unscathed.

Aye so. In the game we’ve heard that priming (turning into the Eikon) takes a ton of Aether. They can’t hold it forever.

We’ve also heard someone say, in regards to Titan at the time, that were the Eikon to take the field, there wouldn’t be much left of their troops had they sent in some to aid the army.

Eikons are a massive drain of power and will kill everyone around from their fighting. Bahamut only went out to stop Odin from decimating the troops. So they had a brief clash, and that’s all that was needed.

Just a quick “Go back or I will be there to stop you.”

To explain what happened in the scene, the showoff between the Eikons are just for deterrence. Similar to how Nukes work in real world, Mutually assured destruction (MAD). Bahamut only appeared when the threat of Odin enters the battlefield. Odin, maybe could have just wipe out the entire battlefield, leaving only mostly his armies, but Bahamut appearing signals that if he did so, Bahamut could have easily return the favor. That’s why most of their casualty seems like just collateral. They don’t want show direct attack as the other monster could just easily do the same.

This shit was cool when I was 15, now it’s eh…

Its hard to see asmon getting into ff16 when he’s only gotten into ff14 because its an mmo. 16 is a single player like all the others and if he gonna go in that rabbit hole. I hate to say it, he should probably start with ff7 classic, not the remake. It’s got this whole problem where the entire first remake game is an expanded area of midgar which is essentially tutorial/learning great area in the original.
But i mean what else? 10 is nice and 8 is another favorite people mixed on. But I think 7 is the best start for western audience and in general. I’m looking forward to 16 soon but to me it just feels like following the trending mainstream.

If anyone was confused, my guess as to why Bahamut took to the field and only exchanged a few blows, is that if he hadnt, Odin would have eliminated their forces in a flash.

Him going out there to face him served as a distraction to divert attention away from the army and to drain his mana. Making it a battle of attrition.
