Something that might be worth taking into account while doing the summons, Ifrit, Titan, Garuda, Ramuh, Leviathan, and Shiva all have alternative designs in FFXIV as well as their primary ones, as does Bahamut although the six I mentioned first are all part of the same side content while the alternative Bahamut design is from the Main Story.

I bring this up because the Alternative Ifrit is more in line with FFXV’s design, although Shiva, Leviathan, and Garuda are very similar to the originals.

Hey, I just fought ifrit in the early story of XIV the other day. Good timing

What makes FF16 Ifrit my favorite version is the sheer grit he showcases during the story, like when he pretty much goes “Fuck it, we ball” after Titan transforms into a beast the size of a literal mountain, he never chickens out once, and if his enemy is stronger than him, he’ll just attack with even more ferocity.

Ifrit is my favorite after FFXVI so fucking cool fighting a dragon in space or fighting an eikon that’s 10x your size and winning. When ifrit combines with the phoenix. Beyond cool

My favorite versions are FF8 and FF10. It just works so well.

I’ll disagree. He’s just another generic, slick dragon. His beastly, brutish build was iconic.

FFXVI also looks like it has all the other Nomura designs somehow interpolated into it, while simultaneously still having unique standing amongst them. the hunching XVI’s Ifrit often does is very FFX, the mane-like structure of neck plates? chitin? is FFVIII, certain lankiness from XIV, and those horns feel like they’ve been taken either right out of FFVII or FFVIII. I’m more inclined towards VIII myself

A note about 14 Ifrit as well, the design also reflect to look like obsidian very well and reflects the ring of fire you often fight the big guy in. And while he’s the first primal you face, Ifrit is often seen by many within the game as the actual strongest of the starter trio given he’s the only one with a one-shor mechanic. While Garuda is scary, she has a shield that makes her so. And Titan is…honestly just a big chicken nugget.

I love 10 so much, honestly. The Aeon design connections to their fayth and their dreams just fit nicely with what we know and can infer. Shiva was a priestess at the Macalania temple, the area being perpetually frozen. So her dream follows that, she’s still mostly herself, just more powerful and ice based. Ifrit is the middle of the road, he was a Crusader, a warrior, someone who would have likely died in battle dreaming of needing more power, so his Aeon followed suit. And of course, a child dreams of dragons. And yet, when the Fayth dream of freedom and rest, they finally dream of a normal human, and he’s the one that makes all the difference.

I still don’t know why they chose the name Ifrit of all mythologycal figures

Man. Somehow I really still love his appearance in FFV. Those glowing white eyes shimmering in the shadow cast by his arm has something resembling a renaissance painting. Really damn cool!

Yeah 16 is definitely the best version but I also have a fondness for the 8 desgin. Mostly because that was the first game in the series I played and I still remember facing off against Ifrit as that games first boss.

One of my favorite design aspects of 16’s version, is his face, resembling that of a canine. But what is also amazing, is that they manage to portray a plethora of emotions and expressions onto that face, although funny thing, many of those expressions is just Clive being “Omg can this get any weirder?”

XIV Ifrit’s design is my favorite, partly because his design dovetails well into its in-universe context. In that, Ifrit’s the near-malevolent creator god of a desert lizard tribe, and he actually does read like that, he looks like a deified form of a weird lizard you’d find on a rock in some desert.

The different Ifrits also got me thinking about movement styles, because I think my main complaint with XVI Ifrit is that… well, he runs kinda dumb; his body plan doesn’t work for what the game has him do. Meanwhile, while XIV Ifrit doesn’t do much moving, he looks like if he did, he’d be really maneuverable and really terrifying; he’s got the Xenomorph’s general shape, he’d probably do great if you gave him similar climbing approaches. Or at least if you had him run a great distance, he’d look more unsettling than unimpressive.

While we all have our preferences for favorite summons, Ifrit has always been a personal favorite (with me enjoying FFX the most if 16 was taken off the table).

While you could say each summon has their own look and personality to them, Ifrit always came off as a being ready to throw down if called upon while the animations were always a delight to watch.

But yeah, making Ifrit Clive’s Eikon just put a bigger smile on my face for 16. The game was enjoyable and while the eikon fights could be a touch long, hell knows they were still quite fun for the first times you got to experience them.
