I played the demo and then immediately bought the game so they’re doing something right! The Eikon fights are the same gameplay as Asuras Wrath if anyone played that.

I hope in future games, Square Enix would put an end game content so players could experience the world by playing different classes and item builds. I mean, it’s Final Fantasy. I have always wanted to play as a Dragoon or a Blue Mage. It could be Co-Op.

Only thing I need to know is it’s a PlayStation exclusive. From the same company that complains about exclusives. I’ll go play an earlier release, one of the good ones from 20+ years ago.

FV16 + SF6 what a wonderful return of the once world changing games.

Im loving every second of this game but does the camera movement screw with anyones eyes, when i move it around everything gets out of focus and blury

I dont mind waiting a while to play this on Xbox if it comes over. I wish the same deal would even be discussed for Bethesda and other developers. It sucks but it is what it is I guess. Looks like they finally went back to their roots in a way so I am appreciative as a long time FF fan

Thankfully we are getting a PS5 playable FFX. Truly the last time the game was “pure”.

I emitted the story of the demo, but the combat was actually incredibly disappointing to me. It felt like a press square simulator. I hated that the distance between the character and their target defined how they attacked. It felt like a forced easy mode. Especially since they had those actions tied to other buttons in the first place. Why map those buttons just to take away your complete control of the character? I hope they have an option to remove that feature, but I doubt it. Both the Morbol and the Dragoon should have been difficult enemies, but they didn’t lay a hit on me. I hope they change that, or at least give you the option to.

I actually think the difficulty rings are a great idea. I have arthritis (I am only 21 lol) and so my hands sometimes have days where they aren’t as fast, while I might not use some of those buffs, knowing I can toggle them let’s me have way more control.

Combat is so boring

I bought the PS5 just for this.

This has horrible combat for a FF game, the ff7 remake nailed the mix of action, and classic jrpg combat, this one is way too far to the action combat side, and pretty bland at least in the demo.

Here i am wondering if Square will ever make another FF game with Turn based combat again.

Edit: “Lightning Returns” also had you control a single character. Namely, Lightning. You guys talk shit about FF13 because it’s the cool thing to do and then don’t even do your research regarding the different games. FF13, for example, starts opening up in the middle of the game, when you first get to Gran Pulse. It then closes after x amount of hours, when you leave Gran Pulse again and then fully opens up again later. Again, please do your research.

You control the protagonist from his childhood era, young adult era, gets married, have kids, then the kids grow up and join your party.

The only thing I know about the game is that it stopped being Final Fantasy and is now a Devil May Cry game.

Yup the game will take a lot of newcomers to ff, even though it doesn’t play like old ff, the story make you curious, the fight looks good, flashy.

I’m actually really happy it isn’t going to be open world and a shorter playtime in general. While open world is great, I also get burnt out and tired of it sometimes..so it’s nice to change it up and be a bit more linear and focused

I never liked final fantasy games. But when I played this demo man was I blown away. It took everything I didn’t like and replaced it with so much better options. I love the combat and only controlling one character is perfect. Perfect even in the smallest minute detail.

Looks cool but it’s absolutely HILARIOUS that the devs are claiming “only the PS5 hardware can handle it” when PCs are literally up to 19x more powerful than a PS5 and the XSX is more powerful than the PS5 too. Shame Sony paid them off after the last 20 years of multi-platform FF.

I tried the demo last night while my kids were asleep. Only played 30 mins, mostly watching the cut scenes. I haven’t played FF since the MMO on PS3, looking forward to this game.

i think what made me LOVE assassins creed 3 so much story wise was going through connors life as a young boy to an adult. this game might give me that same feeling if the writing is good enough

The open zone makes me think of the witcher 3. Like skellige, Kaer Morhen, Toussaint, Novigrad, and stuff.

Two interesting things about the combat I noticed from the demo:
Each Eikon has 4 abilities- 2 special attacks, 1 “utility” (like Phoenix’s dash or Titans block) and 1 that’s sort of a “counter”: e.g Phoenix has an ability that dispels projectiles and fires a shockwave (powered up if you actually countered a projectile)
And despite being full on action- there is a slight “turn-like” strategic vibe to the game because enemies have named attacks that are always accompanied by super-armor, an attack namecard, and often a telegraph

The level cap is set to 50 is another interesting thing. Most jrpgs and final fantasy games the cap is set to 100.

It will be interesting how the design is working on that decision. Hopefully you dont get to 50 in an instant.

combat feels extremely similar to gow ragnarok, different eikon behaves exactly like different weapons, 2 skills each, etc, im not complaining tho, it would have been difficult to get use to it if i wanst coming right from ragnarok

Open world is getting overrated and they just keep getting bigger and bigger and it’s getting tiring, open zones/areas are fantastic but most games these days plus open zones are typically as big as some open worlds from back in the day

My only issue with this game is the number of party members to choose from. From what I saw, there are only 3 (excluding the MC) unlike older FF games. I guess it makes sense since the MC can literally take any role he wants.

While it does seem to be a pretty good game, that’s not Final Fantasy anymore. I mean, the series hasn’t been “Final Fantasy” since X, imo. Let’s not talk about X-2. XII is ok, XIII is horrendous, XV is extremely meh. And as a huge fan of the original FFVII, I really didn’t like the remake. FFXVI seems to be a pretty good game, but to me is just looks Devil May Cry/God of War with FF elements. I still want to play it of course, but I definitely won’t be able to become a massive unhinged fan like I am about VII/VIII/IX. Oh well =D

after playing the demo and going through the challenge mode I only have one single issue. THE FUCKING RINGS!! they’re like a handicap tool that square made for people who are actually dogshit at playing game. i hate how game companies are staring to make games easier for people so that people who started playing games to how it’s now a ”popular and normal” thing to do also get access to games that we’re originally more challenging than they are now.
sure you can choose to have them off and on but i still think having that sort of mentality is what’s ruining games. same goes for most of the remade versions of the games adding cheats to make it easier for newcomers. i remember having to figure out shit myself without having someone holding my hand for the most part to actually be able to play the game.

Devil May Cry: Final Fantasy Edition

so based on this video I’m expecting a cross between Devil May Cry and Bayonetta with *a few* final fantasy elements oh and instead of accessibility options they force you to sacrifice accessory slots.

Been excited since the game was announced. Loved the demo. And even if you can beat the game 35/40 or 70hrs for me it’ll probably be 125 to 150hrs if not more like P5 and Odyssey. I think I went 200hrs+ on those.

I’m 44 years old. I have played almost every FF ever and I’m getting more disappointed with the action instead of battle commands. This is not a FF. This is Devil May cry. Just because you gain equipment and experience doesn’t make it a RPG. 😢

I found it funny that in the Demo you have Garuda eikon powers to fight Garuda, as (I assume due to how the scene is laid out) that it is the exact moment that you get those powers. We’ll have to see how strong Clive is at that point in the story

Funny, I was thinking near the start of the video with the changes I already saw. That they are changing what a Final Fantasy game is with this one. The amount of movement and freedom in this is looking pretty insane and nothing like I’ve seen in any others. I hope this really works well, I’d love to see more Final Fantasies like this. Maybe another Female main for the hero. Almost always a male.

Played the demo last week. And oh my is it stunning and fun. I honestly can not wait to play the full game as soon as I can. I was going to push myself to get Diablo 4. But I changed my mind and I’ll be getting FF16 first.

“It’s not the most elegant or obvious” I disagree. It’s far more involved than just “Easy/Hard”.

Played the demo about two hours ago. Instant preorder. Can’t wait to see the story unfold. Definitely had that older final fantasy 7/8/9 feel to it with Devil May Cry combat on top. Hearing it opens up and becomes more robust has me very excited to dive in. The more mature tone is a welcome pace when compared to other titles in the series and I’m here for it. The Eikon battles were breath taking. I’m glad I waited until closer to release to give the demo a go.

You lost me with the real time combat. I haven’t played a Final Fantasy game since 10. It was so linear, that I played Blitzball more than I progressed the game. I didn’t want to play FF for a while after that and once I realized the games were no longer turn based combat, that was it for me. If I want real time combat, i’ll load Shadow of War or AC Valhalla back up. I used to rely on the FF games to relax and enjoy a good RPG story and be able to be tactical and use strategy during turn based combat.

Final Fantasy Peaked at 12 and it’s been downhill ever since

I haven’t played the demo nor really read up about the game at all. I want to have a pure first experience when I play it on the 22nd.

This really doesn’t look like a Ff game to me. 7 remake was a push almost to far in that direction and this seems to have jumped off the edge.

As an older gamer, I loved the slow pace of the FFs I’ve played. When they switched from turn based to whatever it is now (forget the term), I lost interest sadly. Wish I enjoyed it because I’ve been playing final fantasy for 30 years but sadly 10 was the last entry that I was able to get into.

They should make turn based cool again tbh

looks like a nice game, but the problem for me is the name, i wouldn’t have named it final final , as is not RPG game more like dash and slash type game.

I don’t know, I hate that you can’t create your own character and play as them. Playing as a guy is not enticing for me (and I’m sure many other female players).

So there’s only two difficulty settings. Easy and easier. So disappointed

Open Zones is the right way to go for this game
It allows for more cohesive and enriching environment
It suits the initial linear story and the Eikon set pieces
Open world is honestly overrated

I am so happy that this game is only about 45 hours. A story driven game shouldn’t take 100 hours to play through. Combat enthusiasts can spend plenty of time in New Game+ and Hunts.

Demo was great, not a fan of losing classic ff combat.. but the combat was still fun.. I just hope they don’t give up on making that same grand story and lore achievement we have all come to love.. I feel like square has gotten lazy in that regard.. miss that ff7, ff8, ff9, ff10 story.. hope it lives up to the hype I really do

I hated that you only play one character and they didn’t even bother with gambits, I hated that it’s pure action, no tactics in sight. I hated the lack of an ATB system

Plsyed the demo it was incredible jaw dropping ending I swear to you but I would’ve preferred open world The reason I like open world games is that you can make it a completely unique experience and feels more free like I’m making my own choices zone games feels like I’m playing a preprogrammed experience everyone will go thru

Everything on this list makes me feel like FF16 is more like a spiritual successor to FF12 with a ton of upgrades from the more recent games.

never liked locked level system, I wanna be able to explore everthing from the start, just make all the enemies hard asf to prevent us from going there but don’t lock us out, always hated that

Honestly the only thing I’m disappointed about is the length. When I think final fantasy I think spending hundreds of hours just exploring everything the game has to offer. But 70 hours to 100%?? Man that’s a bummer :/

I absolutly despise thelack of “Party” and the Action gameplay, thats just NOT what i am looking for in RPGs or in Games in general.
but i absolutly Love the AStory what we got in the Demo hooked me instantly its the kind of Storytelling of FF i missed i didnt get hooked like that in XIII or XV so its a huge pro.
but what am i supposed to do if what i like most in games (Story and Character development) is hinderd by tidius and Anoying Action gamplay and QE….its just horrible for me but well Story IS the most important so i will play it maybe i just use the super easy mode to skipp the Battle system.

They really payed attention to the little details in this game. Even the vibration every time you select something in the menu. Best way to describe it is.. it’s crispy asf.

Going to be the first game I play on New Gen can’t wait😁

The combat is what gets it right. The Monster Hunter and Elden Ring feeling of ‘Hard hitting’ combats makes the combat so much more fun.

I’m a big FF fan but given the trailers I was actually going to skip this one. Then I played the demo and I am Day 1 pre-ordered. What a change of heart 😅

Game blew me away the demo was incredible they actually made a top tier arpg combat system and so far the intro to the story is so good… im gonnna def be dropping off diablo here in a few days haha…. the souls like potion limit on healing is a smart choice imo

This looks like a really cool culmination of all of square’s action games from the last decade. KIngdom Hearts, FF15, NieR Automata, etc.

The damn demo was better than some AAA games that I’ve tried to play in the last year or so. I almost wish I hadn’t played it because it has made the wait for release that much more difficult.
I’m a HUGE Legend of Zelda fan and I feel like FFXVI could beat ToTK for GOTY based on one small but important detail: You can pet the dog!

Yeah, number 8 is my gripe.

While I play FF games primarily for the story, it helped that the story was of a group of characters. If I’m going to be expected to play as one character, period, I’m going to want to be able to customize them to an extent. I would much rather be able to play as a Byleth variant or a Shepard or a Hawke or literally any character where you can switch the gender of the character, even if they have a locked appearance.

I’ll reserve my judgement until I play the game, but there’s virtually no excuse – Even if Clive’s gender ends up being a story beat in the series, it is entirely possible to have two variations of that to play off of.

The Demo was absolutely amazing! I wasn’t sure if I was going to get the game or not…but after that demo, its a must buy! I didn’t want it to end.

I’m okay with it not being traditional open world. I get burnt out on those games real quick.

I really hate the direction the combat has gone in the recent final fantasy games. I honestly miss the turn based combat of the classic ones, the uniqueness of 12, and honestly even the hybrid combat of 13. They’ve turned these into just bottom masher games that don’t have the same feel and spirit. I never managed to get through 15 because I hated the gameplay. I’ll just stick to playing remasters off the good ones as they come out

For a long time i havent been able to have fun while playing games in recent years, that fun factor seems to be lost tbh. for example playing GOW ragnarok, sure it was flashy and story driven, i just didnt get that satisfaction of playing and ending a good game like ffxv and sekiro( i just played sekiro recently after ending GOW R) , and i have been wondering if i should purchase ff16 when it comes out, it looks really good but i just dont know if it’ll give me the satisfaction of playing a good game that im searching for

And I’m very happy my save will carry over to the full game.

I’m playing Devil May Cry 5 right now simply because the gameplay from the FF16 was very much alike! I love it. Super fast paced combat. Dodging is really fun in the demo and in a different section of the main menu you can play with multiple Eikon skills and switching between them is dope! Very much like switching weapons in DMC5. As a fan of DMC series and FF series…I’m very much looking forward to the game and story!

The combat wasn’t challenging at all. I don’t mind that though.

I wouldn’t be disappointed if they stuck to the gothic theme & didn’t have an airship… but im willing to bet it’ll be in there somewhere!

one of the main designers for combat worked on DMC5 as well and it seems they just gave him the combat and set him loose to make it how he wanted it lol

Watched plenty of game play, and I will say this again. The attack effects are wayyyy over the top. It CLUTTERS the screen and makes everything so busy all the time. I can’t even focus on what is going on because of all of the sparks, glitter, explosions etc, etc and to top it off, there are the Numbers floating around showing the attack level or whatever it is. It is never ending and takes me out of the game completely.

will they release like a remastered version of it in UE5 or something? Will have Ray tracing?

t=2:18 demands for an “open world” are really not appropriate for some stories that developers want to tell. it’s just become an assumption by western gamers due to the demands of greedy suits / publishers to include it as a “feature” specifically riding on the coattails of games like f3, new vegas, and the elder scrolls series. It should not be expected, and it shouldn’t be demanded of storytellers that want to give you a more focused narrative, even when that story includes diversions into side content occasionally.

This is exactly why FF13 failed in the west, those expectations; even though the game opens up much later in its narrative – it is now becoming considered a lost gem and massively underrated as people come to the awareness that “open world” isn’t appropriate to every title.

One question I want to know is, can we transform If we fight a big enough monster in this free roam mode, or are they just Story moments?

The last time I pre-ordered a game was when Halo 4 was releasing… This is the first game I’m actually pre-ordering and I very much get the feeling I won’t be disappointed at all. It’s very clear the insane amount of passion Square Enix has put into this game.
The open world setting seems very refreshing as well, especially for us players that feel open world burnout or don’t have enough time to dedicate towards games.
