its not FF without a piraty boss theme
some of the move sets looks like vergils
This sounds like the music for a very sane man.
Posting this before the 2023 VGAs. Masayoshi Soken will win best score and music.
I got my ass kicked the first time I did this phase of the fight and I didn’t even care.
Most underrated boss battle in the game.
It is interesting that in the majority of tracks we hear several singers, yet in Barnabas theme there is only one.
Probably the hint that he is the only one who supports ultima and the only one left from his kingdom
I totally love this crazy alien god worshipping king, such a cool theme for him, but when he finally let loose and started laughing and asking if Clvie is… TIRED?!? I laughed with him, I knew it was going to be a badass duel of the fates!
This theme is absolutely epic. I love ff xvi forever
「ドラえもん」ってバカにしてたけど良いねこれ
I realized Barnabas and Zant (Zelda: TP). 6 are oddly similar are very similar: (both servants to their god, both absolutely wreck house in an imposing manner, and both lose their shit for the final showdown. Albeit Barnabas is just having fun and Zant actually went insane but I love this kind of boss fight man…
I kinda think of Barnabas as Clive’s Jetstream Sam. Someone to challenge and prepare Clive for the fight that would change the world and everyone in it.
Dont think we will see another antagonist so dominating and menacing as Barnabas/Odin anytime soon in this series.
Closest thing we had to this was Beatrix in 9 in absolutely schooling us but Barnabas, I dare say, may even make Sephiroth look weak.
The man casually split the sea like he is Moses.
This reminds me of ff9 and tactics
I can hear his maniacal laughter…
Im glad that this fight was not a eikon battle cause Odin is known of is sword that can cut anything peak.
Your choice of moveset gives me anxiety 😂
Gouge and Gungnir animation-lock you – I NEED that mobility!
Bahamut may be the strongest Eikon but Barnabus surely master his Eikonic ability. He’s the only one can goes prime but remain in human form.
1.) This track (named “The Riddle”) is one of my favorite tracks in the whole game.
2.) That Dancing Steel at 2:11 was incredibly ballsy.
I wondered why he seemed so disinterested in everything and everyone early in the story, but after this fight it makes so much sense. Every puzzle piece clicked into place and he is now one of my favorite characters xD
Dude this is just straight God of War
If you love Final Fantasy and the combat this game offers, then this fight is a heaven-sent gift. Probably my favorite fight in term of execution. By this time, the game knows you should be hard to how things work 😌
Anyone want to talk about how cool at 3:47 Barnabas’ move there makes it look like he dodged Clive’s attack and retaliated
I can’t help but be reminded of Donald Trump’s war against the ruling Elites of this Country. His free will against the Akashik forces of the deep state…
Kinda sounds like FF Tactics, love it
Hahaha. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAAA!!
David Menkin delivers the role of Crazy Insane Yelling Villain once again.
compared to bahamuths theme this one was weaker
barnabas should have been the main villain in this game
Clive weirdchamping Odin this entire fight will never not be hilarious.
I know Bahamut is considered by many the best boss in the game (and it _is_ my second favorite), but personally I just gotta give the top spot to Barnabas. The conflict felt more personal than any other in the game, the visuals were spectacular, Barnabas’ unhinged personality was such a fun twist that I really didn’t expect (helped by the 10/10 voice acting), and challenge-wise I think it was perfect. Definitely my favorite boss fight of the year so far, and I doubt it will be topped.
I love Odin’s kit but i just wish we could have got circle of malius as an ability.
My dreams of being a Beyblade are ruined
The most fun human-sized fight in the game!
00:32 Dark Knight stance!
The start of the fight at 0:28 sounds like doraemon
“I… I… Ah… The Rapture! I am yours Mythos! Claim me as your prize” *insane laugh*
If anyone wants some cool trivia. The gentleman who sings @2:14 is Takashi Baba, who also sang ‘God Shattering Star’ in Fire Emblem: Three Houses
he was hot
The way he completely loses it in the second phase is amazing.
This guy has single-handedly conquered the entirety of Ash and has been its ruler for more than 40 years.
But this? This is the first time he actually finds someone his level.
He has finally found a worthy opponent, and there is no way in hell he is letting this chance go.
I still wish we could’ve seen Odin itself at it’s full power. The fight between Clive and Barnabas was nice and all, but i also wanted to see more from Odin. Imagine Odin pulling off the shit Barnabas did in his duel against Clive? Nah… the world would be cut to pieces.
Maybe they’ll show us in a Leviathan dlc or somethin lol (Copium)
I feel like odin’s theme should’ve been more heavy metal
I didn’t like the character at all, but oh boy, Barnabas’ fight may be my new favourite fight in the entire series (as far as I’ve played). I absolutely loved the 1v1 duel.
Like the track not sure how well it fit the character though, this doesn’t song sinister enough.
It almost has a crazy playful quality which Barnabos doesn’t really have
Bro currently listening to this while fighting demons on the toilet and feels epic af.
When I first saw that Odin was the Warden of Darkness and Bahamut the Warden of Light, and that Dion fought for Sanbreque, I figured Dion would be a villain and Barnabas a heroic or antihero character. A Dark is Good/ Light is Evil kind of thing. Then I got to the Titan fight and the whole thing between Dion and Margrave, and I realized Dion was a good guy in a country full of evil. As for Barnabus, the twist of him being an undying king for 40 years puts a lot of the earlier cutscenes in a new light, and the final battle with him was both excellent and difficult to win.
Props to SE for making such a well written bad guy!
The fight as such is great, but i really wanted to beat the shit out of odin in full Eikon mode
the moment Barnabas became an interesting character and stopped being the generic crazy crusader
The lyrics to the vocals of the song:
The twain
On ten feet run
Three eyes and one
Trained upon victory
Foreseen
With steel, darkness comes
“My heart! It soars! As it did the day I won Ash!”
So epic. I kind of love this character tbh. Most epic Odin ever.
The idea that Barnabas as a youth won an entire Kingdom through sword skill alone, is incredibly badass.
Soken loves his leitmotifs and I in turn love his music.
If I could have a nickel for every consecutive best action game of the year having you fight Odin, I’d get 2 nickels, which isn’t much but it’s strange it happened twice.
Something about this songs feels very ivalice.
Battle scenes reminiscent of DMC Virgil. The most common boss battle in this game compared to the previous Bahamut or Titan
The first 26 sec were so intimidating. It gave me the signal to stop being lazy on the sofa 😂 i sat up and start getting serious.
Barnabas is so badass man!
“You are NOT my equal and your will is FORFEIT!!”
This moment, where some of the Zenos woke up inside him, was such a pleasant surprise that the hype finally ratcheted back up to maximum levels since Bahamut. So good.
SPOILERS AHEAD:
I love how Barnabus never cracked. In the scene where you run into Benedikta and kupka, how they’re sad and begging for mercy, and there’s Barnabus taunting you.
I thought it was neat at first knowing the voice actor for barnabas was the same as Malos from xenoblade 2, but when in his armour and with his sword out he looks so similar outside of the differing art styles it’s insane how alike they are, even funnier when you consider both wield the dark element and have powers that can pierce defenses, barnabas’s sword can cut through anything, Malos and his power can annihilate anything it touches, I don’t know if the xenoblade fan in me is skewing my perception but I see a surprising amount of similarities between this game and those ones, doesn’t help that so many voice actors from them show up here in major roles.
Thematically, Barnabas is an incredible King. You rarely see Kings as servants of God in literature, but he is a true to term ‘King’ that does his mandated duty.
this track goes hard. Easily one of my favorite villains in gaming
2:20 Why does this part reminds me so much of Demon’s Souls???
Theme is called The Riddle.
Sounds very piratey to me
I just live this one! When Barnabas went insane with the rapturous joy of having a worthy opponent made me really like him.
theres part of this track that gives me Legend of Dragoon last boss vibes – which just makes me sad that game will never be remade…
Honestly i can’t choose which track is best. It’s either this or ascension for me … but all of them are so good it feels like it condensed all the previous FF into one, such a genius is Soken. Now just patiently wait for the ultimate edition OST to arrive so i can enjoy them in lossless
This reminds me so much of Odin’s theme from 14
This theme is a love letter to Hitoshi Sakimoto’s works, I love it!
It felt like Odin was one of the scariest Eikons we seen. Too bad we didn’t get to see Leviathan the Lost though. We actually only seen what, 6 or 7 of the 8?
I’m the only one who heard Roses of May from FF9 here?
I need an edit of this ost with the bit at 1:06 extended at least twice as long, that part is godlike
Using Odin to fight Odin O_o
I can literally picture this man flying across the field doing Circle of Malius while cackling like a lunatic
Final fantasy is back baby!!
BARNABUSSSSSSSS
Its has that demon’s souls vibe to it. It reminds me of garl vinland and maiden astrea music. Love this game
It’s so cool how Barnabas, so calm and stoic throughout most of the story, shows himself to be the most fanatical true believer out of all of the dominants.
A psychotic villain worthy of the battle, it’s funny how Barnabas was also a bit of a tribute to the faceless helmet-wearing classic Final Fantasy Villains.
Most intense 1v1 ever
to think what type of battle would be if Barnabas fought Clive seriously instead of using him to [spoilers]
Damn Square, just make Garland a summon already…. That barely resembled Odin lol
We get it, you like Jack…
My heart, it sooooaaars.
As it did the day I won Ashhhhhhhhhhhhhh.
If there’s another Dissidia, this guy should be 16’s “villain”
At first I felt A little underwhelmed but now I have a much better appreciation of this theme
Remind of Ukanlos theme from Monster Hunter
2:13
*MAJOR* Dark Souls 1 choir vibes
Y’know this guys the real deal when not only does he have the dominant Odin but he also has Vergil’s Move set too
That enough power to get a man motivated
This track epic, unique, heroic, beautiful n catchy. Kinda reminds me of iconic Warcraft tracks but with FF touches. Need an extended version of this!
Gotta love the speech Barnabas/Odin gives when he shifts to this phase. The laugh, the delivery, the demonic voice, everything about it is perfect. And he even remains super-flowery with his words, even though it can summarized as “Hurray! You’re actually strong enough to make me go all out! What fun!”
had no healing potions left towards the end but managed to beat his ass first try lmao, amazing duel, didn’t need the flashy eikon fight
2:14
I swear I’ve heard this melody before. I’m in love with it again. Anyone know a song with a melody similar to this?
This was the game’s equivalent of a vergil fight and man was it good, when he started maniacally laughing and flying around the arena i had a bigass smile on my face
The voice acting is excellent in the game, but props to Clive and Barnabas’ voice actors.
When the voice direction (which is generally really strong) asks them to go THERE? They do so in full force. The voice actor absolutely nailed the intensity and unhinged Barnabas. Especially after he laughs and makes his declaration to Clive.
This is the most Final Fantasy sounding song I have heard in years. Reminds me of 4, 5, and Tactics.
I’d check to make sure the volume was max too
Official title: The Riddle
Track is titled “The Riddle” on the official soundtrack.
FF14 was the best thing that could’ve happen to FF16, that Odin Leitmotif from XIV was godtier
It’s reminded me of ride of the valkyries
Barnabas is basically sephiroth while ultima is his Jenova
odin hijomio calmate
Honestly if it wasn’t for those god forgiving checkpoints he would have been an extremely hard boss
It sound like a dance of madman… and the whole fight in a sense is a dance of two warriors.
What made this fight for me was when he started laughing like a maniac.
Desperate are we !!?
I admit this fight was difficult handling blind just ended up using all my potions lol
Call me crazy if you will but don’t the vocals at 2:13 sound almost exactly the same as FE3H’s God Shattering Star? Maybe it’s the same singer?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0WMYL6HuUoI
Edit: I did some research and found out God-Shattering star was sung by Takashi Baba, who was also featured in the credits of many FF numbered titles since X. There’s a good chance he was also in XVI!
“Show me your worth, Mythos… THAT I MIGHT *REVEL IN IT”*
It’s honestly a shame he had his helmet on for that line too- his facial expression would have looked perfect.
Every dominant fight was eikon vs eikon heavy which was awesome. But this fight was just mano e mano, super fun. Almost reminded me of a ff14 boas fight
Most beautiful fight and Ost in the game. It shows you fear, desperation, anger, and malice all in one villian. I may have had an issue because this game deviated alot from FF normal battle systems. However, this IS Final Fantasy! Facing your demons and overcoming your limits to defeat the villian. Soken just knocks it out of the park with Odins theme. 10/10
This fight was very underwhelming compared to the others.
Honestly this felt like an Odin theme to me at first. Then the vocals kicked in and turned it into Twilight of the God Shattering Star and now I’m questioning how Soken would do Fire Emblem music.
Ah what am I saying, of course he’d be the best one!
SHOW ME YOUR WORTH MYTHOS…
THAT I MIGHT REVEL IN IT!!!!!!
Soken OMG
This was the hardest fight in the game for me. The defense and parries. Geez. Thank god for Jill. Permafrost FTW!
“MYTHOS!”
Very Fire Emblem Three House style. The strong male vocals really reaches one’s heart. A battle of wills !
Valisthea’s weakest momma’s boy.
I just realized the beginning of this is a leitmotif of Ultimas theme but with a soldiers March feel to it – he’s literally a soldier of his god and that’s pretty epic actually
Gave Zenos vibes with the hunt/worthy opponent comments.
Wish they explored him more as a character
This is what a dark knight is supposed to be, tired of all bs in the world and wants to destroy everything just to get maybe a fake chance to start anew.
Why the fuck is the first 30-40 second of the song so similar to doraemon opening tho lol
This feels like a classic final fantasy/chrono trigger ost
bro keep it up your audio sound lit
The moment he snapped is when this fight got real none of the doom and gloom of his usual speech’s but the energy of a blood starved beast who has finally found a worthy hunt. Bahamut and Titan were spectacle fights this was a duel to the death between hated rivals
I wasnt feeling it too hard and then the music came in. And his VA. His fucking VA KILLED IT during the entire fight. His evil maniacal side really came through, something I wasn’t expecting when he was so calm and brooding for 90% of the game. I love the dark ‘chivalrous’ knight but then he took it to another level.
ofri goldenfroind
Best boss
Sagaru Magala vibes.
Love the theme, it’s heroic but also villian esque. Kind of like Batman but with more medieval flair
EPIC
This song in particular makes me think of some Final Fantasy Tactics music and I absolutely love it!
Loved this guy got total classic pure evil villain vibes from him
Damn, bro looks 8 feet tall
You Reverse Zantetsuken’d Odin. A+ for style.
good video i watched through it all
