This game sucks, I don’t understand why XV got more hate than this lazy attempt at a Final Fantasy.
They had the DMC5 combat designer, and it was still this bad? 😂
I think what turns me off mkst about this game is it just has to much padding and lacking any real RPG mechanics.
Like character building/customization, party customization, leveling up feeling like a straight path.
But great characters, great mature story and the combat is fun, set pieces fantastic.
What you come in to play the game for are great.
But, the game just pads itself out with nothing content which is usually a very long conversation that ends in “go kill this or get this for me” these sections usually happen right after a great set piece kind of just taking away that natural high the game just gave you.
Then yeah game needed more customization over getting a new power ever 5-7 hours, each power needed its own skill tree and by time we’re done most of us load outs would look different and needed a weapon crafting where end game multiple weapons you were able to choose from with elemental damage or special effects.
But still despite that, when the game kicks ass, its really kicking ass and kinda of makes the hours of mediocrity before it worth it.
As someone who played ff1,3,6,7,15 16 is a breath of fresh air. I love its game of thrones vibe it’s grimmer anti magic world and dmc combat. I think you’d have to be pretty close minded after the demo gameplay to hate this game. Yes final fantasy thrived on atb but can we talk about how well written and subtextual the story is my god it’s a masterclass. Just look at cid literally one of the first party members you meet.
For me, the combat depth just wasn’t there. Sure, you had builds with mixing and matching Eikon skills later on in the game, but eventually you figure out that you’re just waiting to stagger the enemy and then firing off Zantetsuken and all the other high dmg skills. And that’s it. They limited themselves on depth.
It’s still fun to play😊
I like the turn based final fantasy systems better. but still looks awesome I will be getting it now that it’s on x box 😊
It’s because it’s not turn based. Sick of them crying.
FFVII Rebirth plays almost exactly like FFXVI. You mash the buttons to fill the bar and then use your ability, where Cloud hacks and slashes the enemy. In FFXVI, you activate the Esper ability and he mashes the enemy. It’s exactly the same. Just because you then go into slow motion mode in FFVII Rebirth doesn’t change the fact that FFVII Rebirth is a pure action game where you have to mash the buttons. Anyone who calls FFXVI a DMC and celebrates FFVII Rebirth should take off their rose-colored nostalgia glasses.
I dont think you understand what you are pointing out. When did Baulder’s reach this number.? Also, why does this matter? They are 2 different game genres and FF is very niche. Ya kno?
this is nor FF, its another actiopn rpg
It’s a good game, but it’s a shitty Final Fantasy game.
My biggest disappointment is if they had tweaked the story a bit more, it could have been the end of the War of the Magi and a prelude to Final Fantasy VI.
So people rather play a turn based final fantasy where they aren’t doing nothing in the fight vs actually being able to fight…. Okay I guess
It’s alright but I felt for most of the game combat I was just cycling through special attacks. Like the fastest and most effective method was to spam specials over and over which got dull after awhile
I feel like it isn’t devil may cry enough. And I don’t think the narrative is up to the quality of previous ff games. I think there were a lot of good ideas that just weren’t getting balanced enough. It’s good, but it can be better.
Fans hate when a final fantasy game isn’t tied to ff7
Played 8 10 13 15 and now 16 and this is my favorite close to 8. Story great voice acting perfect. Graphics are top notch. Combat is a solid 9 better then dmc5 combat in my opinion.
I dont like how this and so many once trend setting franchises have turned into trend following franchises. I’m not saying it’s a bad game, but it’s not what made me fall in love with the franchise so many years ago.
I had no interest in it because I wanted to play a Final Fantasy game not a Devil May Cry game.
Best FF is 16.
I cin y end the perfect combat balance was ffx-2 (even tho story was cringy), the feeling of engaging fight while still being turned based
This game sucks so much and shame on all of the gaming journalists that gave it neutral or glowing reviews.
Battle mechanics are fine but shallow. Personally I’m not into Napoleon game of thrones stories. Useless upgrade and weapons crafting systems you’re already powerful enough without it. Only bosses can beat you. Regular enemies are bowling pins for me to knock down. Why do side quests in a Zelda 64 sandbox. NPCs are expressionless mannequins.
They need to make a DMC game with a hub and different areas to travel to like FF16 instead of strictly going from mission to mission.
The game has been westernized. Too much action, not enough RPG. Great game though, im on my 2nd playthrough
I don’t think it looks bad, but the combat system seems like a gem that’s not properly polished.
fully maxed Clive does not have enough moves to choose from. (Especially if you look at Eikon bosses and see how much more and bigger attacks they had)
And a big missed chance to alternate between elements for your basic attacks instead of just fire (unique moveset for every Eikon/element)
Ifrit/Phoenix also not having their own complete moveset, but instead sharing one.
Ifrit also never reaches the level of Ultima’s version, what is kinda lame as I was hoping that with each Eikon Clive would master, his Ifrit form would incorporate them in itself.
Lastly the inability to transform in a smaller version of Ifrit as a limit break is a let down. only being able to become Ifrit during scripted moments takes the fun out of it.
One of classic FF staple’s is that you can summon a god at any moment, even when just fighting some grunts 20 levels lower then you.
16 is a well of potential, but they just did not have the guts to commit, instead being content for 16 to being a transitional game in the series.
(and no, DLC won’t fix those problems.)
Turn Based game Baldur’s Gate 3 Sold 22+ million copies VS. Final Fantasy 16 4M
I like it so far but I think it would’ve been nice to have a similar system like ff15 or even the remake
Lacks the combos and lvl of combat of devil may cry. Still love this game tho.
ARE…fans divided? Or is that just what certain sites would like you to believe.
Longtime squaresoft fan. I’ve been playing since ff3(6 to you weebs) all the way through to 15. This game is a far cry from what squaresoft used to make. This game is basically final fantasy Kingdom hearts / devil May cry edition with a Witcher 3 / game of thrones skin. And dear Lord so many cutscenes
Batman Geralt voice tone 24/7 boring af Clive
I guess we’ll never get a return of the Gambit system, which I REALLY liked. It was a really neat idea, and they’ve NEVER gone back to it.
The game is fun AF i get why your old school slow paced RPG lovers wouldnt like it
No where as close as dmc,ff16 battpes are rinse and repeat.there are no elemental weakness.when u get over how flashy fights are,its boring
I’m baffled with all this because out of everyone I know/interact with, I am the biggest turn-based buff ever. I think I have about 100 turn-based games on Steam, and that’s nowhere close to the amount I wish I had, cause I can’t buy them all.
I study every system I play like I’m in school because I want to understand the game design behind them and imagine cool stuff to mix and match.
And yet, this game is the most fun I’ve had with Final Fantasy in a while. And that’s because for what it is, it’s REALLY good. I want turn-based back, I cannot overstate how much, but ultimately the most important thing for me is the game being good.
Ff16 is not final fantasy
Hack and slash ugh disappointed in the game, super boring
Final fantasy fans divded on an entry? Color me surprised.
The game is a gem
It’s a standard action game with a few final fantasy words sprinkled on it. The action is good, but it keeps stopping every two minutes for a movie.
Evading confuses me sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t
Its slowly becoming one of my favorite Final Fantasy games. Nothing will surpass 6 in my opinion and I kinda wish Clive can actually summon the Eikons (or brief holograms of them) when he does their ultimates… but that’s like minor nitpicks that doesn’t take away my enjoyment.
This is not a Platinum action game for 80 hours lol. The combat is glorious do no get me wrong but with the game being 75 percent cutscenes the incredible combat is not given enough room to breathe.
Have fun with your garbage, I’ll be grinding on 6.
Can’t believe the great reviews for this game. The combat is a joke, can you ever lose? It’s a movie with a few moments of player “action”
If they ever add a acrophobia mode in a update for this game I would get it. I really want to get this game but maaan stop with the spiders! 😂
People in comments always want to act like “innovation” is a great thing, that is objectively false. In 16s case it’s not even innovation or trying something new…that’s a lie. This is literally DMC with a final fantasy coat of paint. Nothing wrong with that, many people like DMC or platinum style games. But to act like they did something great?…New?… Revolutionary? Protecting your sacred cow much?
FF7R I thought pushed the envelope more than 16. 16 relies a bit much on QTE and the cutscenes come long and often (makes sense when you hear the KH team also has a hand in this) I look at 16 for what it is. A means to wet ones appetite while waiting for part 2 of FF7R.
This games combat style is so much better than the turnbase and the story is soooooo good, plus it’s more than just mashing square you gotta weave in those abilities for the big dick damage
He said DMC and platinum in the same sentence. Bro I got news for you these are two different companies
Dmc is my favorite series and I love ff so I’m super pumped to play this. Dmc with Crystals and no sarcasm?😂
i thought people were divided about it because of the lack of diversity
The thing for me is, with FFXVI (and Tales of Arise to a lesser effect), it’s a good game, I can recognize that. However, it’s also something that makes me think “I really hope the series doesn’t go this way again in the future” and feel concerned that it may.
Final Fantasy has always changed their game play styles to try something new. Whether it’s ability learning from 9 and 5, leveling stats and gear proficiencies by using them/taking hits/dodging attacks from 2, junctioning from 8, materia from 7, sphere grid from 10, or the linear path from 13.
Final Fantasy is all about changing the system but retaining the core elements. Do I like Bayonetta/DMC combat that grades me based on my combos? Not really. Will I still play FF16 as soon as I can afford a PS5? Bet your ass I will.
This next generation Dynasty Warriors game looks SO COOL. Can’t wait to play it.
Absolutely loving it. Having a similar issue with the camera though and it would really be great if the Performance mode had anything resembling a stable framerate. Otherwise fantastic game.
I think the three biggest quality of life improvement would be letting us change the camera distance, letting us toggle between locked on enemies, and having a sprint button instead of having to wait for Clive to pick up speed.
Call me a dinosaur, but I miss the turn-based systems of yore…FFVII, VIII, IX, Tactics….
i dislike how people are calling this a dmc type game. its not. its like ff7 remake and re15 had a baby and then make it more wild. its not dmc but its similar i guess. it doesnt play that way though… especially if ur a game journalist hehehh
My biggest gripe is the targeting system.
Loved it not the best FF game but certainly the most fun I’ve had in one in a while blows ff7’s “combat” outta the water I chat stand that slowing down time nonsense
Dialogue is horrendous and poorly written. Feels too anime for my taste. It’s baffling to me how we got from well-crafted dialogue of XII to this anime cringe fest that is XVI and pretty much any other game naoki yoshida puts his hands on.
I’m loving it. I’m also loving all the nods to the og ff aesthetic
Final Fantasy games have been dropping and dropping. People are speaking and we are tired of this BS.
This has nothing to do with turn base or having main character be a black person. This has to do with a franchise that NEVER evolved like we see with Dragon Quest, Persona, and Shin Megimani Series. These games know what they are.
88 for FF16 is not surprising to me should be lower but new comers don’t care for the other Final Fantasy games.
As a fan would they even try the Pixel Remastered of all the 6 classic games or just play Final Fantasy 7 “Remake” & FF16 and call it a day because they can’t be help to play a game that came out in the 90s/80s or just because it’s turn base.
Hey, if you don’t like turn base that’s fine just STOP making people who want OG Final Fantasy to start liking or kissing ass to people who don’t care about Final Fantasy on tell it was action base. What has happened to gaming?
Gimme
My
Old school
Turn based
FF back
Square!!!
These arent FF, these are DMC clones and YOU SUCK at making them!!!
Combat doesn’t define what a Final Fantasy game is.
Bruh only gaystation
Fans aren’t divided lol. It’s getting almost universally positive reviews. Some goofballs who are unable to comprehend that series’ evolve over time are angry, but that’s a minority of players.
If they were gonna change the game make it like skyrim not god of war. I’ve liked ff since the snes but I will not be playing ff16. I’ll wait for starfield.
Cool. *reinstalls FF9* :p
Final fantasy has always been about innovation, gameplay has changed a huge amount of times. From turn based, to action, mmos, tactics, its always been about changing up the formula. If your truly a fan you’d understand that,
People are divided over it not being an RPG. Here’s hoping they go back with XVII. I also heard it’s melting PS5s.
Game is really fun, I love the Story, no complaints. But it’s A but over hyped!! Great game tho
No party, not a FF game. The party defines Final Fantasy; why they steered away from it to create Square Enix version of DMC, I will never know.
I don’t know why people are so surprised after FFXV. My only disappointment is that the other characters aren’t playable, even if it makes sense for the story.
Idk. This seems like dmc with a final fantasy skin slapped on 🤔 or a Souls/Bloodborne title… I’m divided
I’m a OG Final Fantasy nerd and I’m enjoying the heck out of this game so far. Have to change with the times.
This is NOT a Final Fantasy game 🙄
Im currently playing Bloodborne for the first time.
I was playing Devil May Cry right before and surprisingly, Bloodborne works perfectly as a Sparda origin story.
Especially wearing the Kings clothes and wielding the Moon blade as The Rebellion.
I remapped the buttons to play like DMC also. 🤘
Odd that there is no elemental weaknesses like other FF games
No thank you
Not divided, it’s a great game. I say that as someone who has played Final Fantasy since 1992. I want SE to take chances, and make advancements in gameplay. But I also want to see some turn based Final Fantasy Games. Octopath, DragonQuest 11, Persona 5, are all great; but I prefer the final fantasy flavor.
There is no reason we can’t have an action game, strategy, mmo, hybrid action/rpg (FF7R) and some turn based games. I wouldn’t mind a Final Fantasy dungeon crawler. I know, just play the games that SE released. As I said, I still prefer the Final Fantasy brand.
100% agree with Scott. Personally LOVE the combat and the story and pretty much everything about this game, but the camera and even walking are still a bit clunky
i have no interest in the game but a lot wont like it because of fear of departing from what people are used to under a certain title or branding, so they expect a very specific kind of gameplay. Think of the distaste for FFtactics while still being a FF title.
I can’t say this feels like DMC or Bayonetta at all. It is an action game, but it’s a lot more simple and less accurate of a battle system. The parry mechanic almost feels luck based it’s so odd and inaccurate. You can sort of juggle but not to the extent of a DMC. It’s not bad by any means, in fact it’s one of the game’s strengths, but I’d hate for someone to buy this thinking they’re getting a Platinum Game’s combat system when it’s a lot more Kingdom Hearts, I guess? Sorry I can’t think of a good comparison right now, just be aware it does not feel as accurate as those other action games
Sounds awesome to me. I’ve always liked the combat of DMC and Bayonetta but I was always bad at comboing attacks. But having that fighting system without the combo rating system sounds like a dream come true to me.
