FF16 is dead and buried now it’s too late…they screwed up going with Sony woth a blurry or choppy mode to choose and the PC release lacks features like simple ultrawide support and is extremely taxing on CPUs.
They should of released simultaneously on all platforms instead when people were still hyped
Imagine a world where ff16 wasnt exclusive. Everyone (even my grandma) wouldve loved it like elden ring
So tired of Alex nitpicking shit to death. You arent getting a perfect game Alex. Ff16 is demanding and it looks great on pc
It’s pretty obvious that Sony will not let this golden goose loose (Mainline recent FF releases) launch for Xbox until the next one comes along. In this case FF17. Xbox will also not be getting the FF7 Remakes until years AFTER the last one in the series is out. Final Fantasy sells Playstations.
They’re a third party developer. Why aren’t they releasing all their games on Xbox? There’s 30 million more consoles they could have had their games on and potentially millions of copies sold that they missed out on.
Everyone deserves to play the game of the generation. It’s about time Square woke up and decided to sell their games.
Let the market decide if it’s too late.
Lol
So they didn’t make enough money on PlayStation…..well guess what if i cant get the game the same time as PlayStation I DON’T WANT YOUR F-ING GAME!!!
Jrpg games on Xbox In general is to late I would have cared more if Microsoft didn’t start putting there games on playstation yes sea of Thieves is a 1st party game I don’t care if it’s a Gass game it was a 1st party developer who made it for Xbox Xbox has died games on pc day and date Phil telling people you don’t need a Xbox to play Xbox games and the last Straw was putting there games on Competing platforms
Releasing later on other platforms certainly kills the hype. A Mutliplatform and simultaneous release would benefit them the most.
They need to get all their games on xbox and pc, they are 3rd party
Its the littlest thing. But richard, you should get your teeth whitened 🙂
Square needs to pivot back to nintendo as the primary platform for their rpgs, then have the enhanced version on modern platforms. Switch is the home of JRPGs in my opinion, and not putting the high budget games on the switch 2 would be a huge oversight.
The way you guys *always* downplay and diminish Xbox is both revealing and disgusting.
Sincerely, I don’t know why you even bother covering Xbox when it’s clear that all of you are, at best, indifferent to Xbox and at worst, have contempt for Xbox.
This is the Xbox tax in practice. You guys always frame the conversation with negative connotations and conjecture.
I still doubt XVI and the VII Remake series will ever make it to Xbox.
they dont buy these games the xbox couldnt handle it if square said they took advantage of ps5 hardware.
Lmao
I don’t see the point. FXVI is a game for enthusiasts of the hobby, that people owns either a Pc or a PS5.
I can’t see ffxvi selling a single million copies on xbox.
Square should focus on new games instead of supporting a dy ing platform. I don’t even know how they would do it on series s.
Xbox players will buy it. Im one of them. Square and Final Fantasy’s financial peak was two generations ago because it sold their properties across all platforms…. FFXIII was on both Xbox 360 and PS3…and FFXI was on PC,PS2 and Xbox 360. Its doesn’t matter when FFXVI will come out as long as from now on…all FF games come out together on all platforms. I own FFXIV on all three platforms. And whats crazy..is on Series X, its neck and neck with PC…PS5 needs work.
As a FF fan having to wait for PC releases is dreadful. You get spoiled, they can’t even optimize the game properly, and what’s worse they ask you to have hope, like if they were an indie company that lacks budget to port games.
Larian made a big effort porting BG3 to PS and Xbox, they didn’t have enough budget to release it day one everywhere and still they got it on Xbox 4 months after release.
Meanwhile Square Enix released FF16 on PS5, according to Yoshi-P they spent a lot of money on it, and still couldn’t get a decent port on PC a year and 4 months later: game halves its performance when you alt tab, after some fast travels or some cutscenes. Game doesn’t even run on a 3050 or a 2060 with DLSS at 1080p when others like Horizon 2, Alan Wake 2, Cyberpunk 2077 or Star Wars Outlaws do.
They deserve the low sales, they should hope for their fans to be interested on playing FF again.
If they added cross platform saves they would get more sales. I would definitely buy it on PC if I could continue my progress in new game+
Anyone who gives half a monkeys about this series would have bought a PS5 for it a long time ago. I’d be staggered if this hit Xbox and people actually spent £70 on it. I’d love to interview them and ask them why they are so enthusiastic they’d lay down seventy notes for it, but didn’t buy a PS5 already. There is simply no audience for it and it isn’t worth a port.
If Square wants to put FF on more platforms and stop their flagship IP flop into obscurity then they need to stop signing exclusivity contracts. They gotta decide what they value more, selling and growing the FF franchise or a quick cheque from Sony. I just bought 16 on PC and still waiting for Rebirth. PlayStation is not the centre of the universe as more and more of us are ditching consoles
why?
People expecting Final Fantasy sales to improve when Square Enix releases their newer entries to the Switch 2, are in for a rude awakening.
Because there is almost no thirst for FF games on the Nintendo side. What Square Enix did to Xbox players, they did to Nintendo players for DECADES.
So for decades, Nintendo gamers had nothing from SE aside from their tablescraps. Such as the Crystal Chronicles series. But none of the mainline games.
Then Nintendo adquired Monolith Soft and they provided Nintendo fans of rpgs with the Xenoblade IP.
So Square Enix screwed up by not branching out to other platforms FOR DECADES with the Final Fantasy brand. To build an audience on those platforms. And now, they find themselves with the problem where just releasing them on a PlayStation is no longer profitable.
Needs ps5 pro support. Surprised it aint on the list of games for pro support
TBH, I’m more interested in a hypothetical Switch 2 port. as with the current slate of shipping reports, rumors/leaks.etc…it may just flat-out be more capable than Series S in multiple regards when docked. Particularly having 12GB of RAM versus Series S’s 10. And Horizon OS on Switch is a far more svelte OS than Xbox’s, so you’d probably have 10GB minimum for games, if not 11GB. Meaning you’d be creeping towards the available RAM for games that Series X/PS5 enjoy.
Audience-wise, Switch has a far more tappable group of players for FF16 than Xbox I will admit.
It’s lower bandwidth sure, but the design of Switch 2 is seemingly targeting to minimize latency in general (1GPC Design which heavily cuts inner-GPU latency, LPDDR which is multitudes more responsive than GDDR.etc) which we know the Ampere Architecture loves lowering latency based on how much inflating the L2 helped Lovelace close and surpass the gap with RDNA2 in scenarios games preferred RDNA2 over Ampere, at least in tandem with the higher-clocks relative to Ampere.
Considering NVIDIA just said all their future SOC Compute stuff is going to TSMC (Ending their relationship with Samsung seemingly) I feel TSMC4N is a shoo-in among a multitude of other reasons (including Samsung 8N actually being more expensive per-SoC unless Samsung gives NV the silicon for pretty much free).
I argue it’s more to maximize their net of possible players (and prime up Square’s Multiplatform initiative they announced at the last Shareholders meeting).
One could argue the “Viability of porting” audience wise, but they could also be just doing it to find said audience in the playerbase there.
As for the actual viability (tech wise) for the port. Series X is probably well-set…beyond the split-RAM situation. RAM-wise Series X while having a higher peak speed…that’s only 10GB of the RAM there (with only around 2-3GB of the other block not taken by the OS) so it is sort of crippled RAM Wise which FF16 is a RAM-Hungry title in regard to VRAM.
Series S makes the VRAM demand even more difficult with it pretty much just having 8GB accessible to devs and at a far bigger cut versus the PS5 version which very much was running the game into the redline RAM wise on that platform seemingly.
Now, a boon from the PC version is the introduction of Gen2 Reconstruction Techniques like FSR3/XeSS. The question of if Series S|X can even run XeSS aside, FSR3.1 probably would be an improvement IQ wise over the FSR1+TSCMAA solution despite its own issues. At least at lower internal resolutions.
I would say the goal would be getting VRAM constraints in check to make it so Series S could do sort of what Alan wake 2 did and run the Performance Mode setting at 30fps (just replace FSR1 with FSR3.1 in the case of FFXVI)
Would it run on Series S?
If you’re a 3rd party developer there is zero reason not to have your games everywhere unless you’re being paid to do so.
If they would fix the PS5 version to not run like garbage, I’d actually play the game. I bought it at launch and haven’t gone back to it after the patch that was supposed to help performance didn’t do anything. It’s an atrocious 30fps mode and a performance mode that feels awful. Final Fantasy deserves better than what it’s been getting in terms of tech and performance.
On another note, I don’t think waiting to port a game affects its sales that much at all, at least not if people actually want to play it. People waited ages for PC ports of Sony games, or Persona ports to Xbox/Switch.
A PC version of FFXVI makes sense for the FFXIV crowd, but the audience that wants FFXVI and only owns an Xbox has to be incredibly small. I dunno, I think the “demand” is just from fanboys who want platform parity more than they want a new game to play.
You guys wish. I’ll be preordering immediately.
I’m not interested in supporting a 3rd company that ignored Xbox. So No.
Any mention if they are adding PS5 Pro support?
SE deciding to port their games across the gamut kinda proves that Playstation’s population does not support the type of games they want to make.
The total sales from Xbox should give them enough profit for a nice team lunch.
Xbox…Abandon All Hope Ye Who Enter
Could the series s run ff16 because it runs like dog shit on ps5
Final fantasy should never been exclusive game to any platform
The only way I see this working is if it is released on Xbox via GamePass. No Xbox customer or any gamer would pay full price €64 / €70 on a game where the PS5 version by that point will be heavily discounted to less than €30 and ultra cheap STEAM keys will be floating around on the PC platform…
Xbox would like some games and Square Enix would like to sell some games? Just port Final Fantasy to Xbox already.
Im trying to play it on PC, but the poor optimization is ruining it for me
They sold like… 4 million? So far, and just on PS5. Imagine if it was cross platform, on PC and Xbox… whatever Sony paid them, I doubt it was worth it
It plays best on ps5 pro!!!!!!! MEGA L FOR GAYBOX SERIES X FANQUEERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sony is such an evil company. We all really need Microsoft to do well.
I really liked this game. I was waiting for a DLC
Kind of sounds like Sony has some deal still with competing platforms like Xbox/Nintendo
Are they putting it on gamepass? Then some people will play it.
If they dont put it on gamepass, then not only will it sell a meaningless amount of copies, but it will also have very little players.
This is the xbox ecosystem now. Its either given to me for “free” or i dont play it. Very few users buy their games on xbox. Its just the reality of the situation.
Gamepass is a hell of a deal, so much so, that you have conditioned 95% of your users to stop buying your hardware or your software and instead engage with a subscription model that costs a fraction of the cost of a single piece of software … which means the majority of your users will not buy games…which means microsft is stuck paying out gamepass bags to everyone with a game to sell…
So unless gamepass magically quadruples its paying subscription numbers, or increases the price substantially, this will die eventually. Its obviously not sustainable. I dont care what executives who are paid to lie to you say, I can do basic math lol
Square games have been noticeably absent from the platform for a while. Square also says that every game ever for the last decade hasnt met expectations…if you guys want square games on your xbox, you better pay for em, this wont end well if you dont.
Eventually microsft wants R.O.I.
Its why xbox games are, and will continue to be released on other platforms. Its also why they are eventually going to stop handing out giant gamepass bags if this shit doesnt start to turn around for them soon…
This isnt some long game amazon or netflix type play lol
Let’s be honest Xbox player’s will NOT buy this game like Playstation player’s
They used to gamepass sub as long it’s not coming to GP
They put too high of a price on a digital only game that is already multiple years old on Xbox and wonder why nobody buys it on xbox. Especially when said game is missing content from previous versions like the pixel remaster or censored to maintain parity with PS like neptunia sisters v sisters (NOT SQUARE ENIX).
I think we may possibly also see it on Switch 2
New game optimisation method: hope 🙏
This is such a good game that everyone chose to hate.
I dunno who is more ambiguous in what they say, Yoshida or Phil Spencer 😂
beat the game on PC yesterday, man i feel so empty after the ending
Xbox just seems desperate when it comes to jrpgs
