After beating my first Playthrough for FF16 I have to say, that I dont know how they did it, but every boss would somehow outdo the last. When I did Bahamut I was like, “How the hell did they top the Titan Fight!?”, then even with Bahamut the next big boss blew me away even more. Then the final boss just beutiful!

3:03 at 1.0x speed sounds just like Undertale’s Bonetrousle at 1.5x speed
I’m not sure if my thoughts is right now but I think my mind unconsciously made up that FFXVI is this current generation of Azura’s Wrath and I love how my mind decided this without me realizing it
There’s a part in the track that reminds me of European classical music which is incredibly fitting for Prince Dion since his heritage and empire seem to draw inspiration from France.

The moment when an amazing game becomes EPIC in one boss fight scene 😎😎😎💪. Above all boss fights, this one is the best one of them. Seeing Phonix and Ifrit becoming one and the soundtrack, there is no worlds for that, you just have to feel this scene/game . 😎😎

Dion Lesage & Bahamut are so majestic, regal, and epic, along with a theme song that perfectly matches.
They nailed every Eikon in this game and made Bahamut the legend he is.
Can I just say, not only are these the best boss fights in Final Fantasy history, this is also the best the Eikons have ever looked.

I don’t know much about Final Fantasy but this fight was like Gojira with Mothra versus Gidorah on space
Absolute shame the Odin fight didn’t live up to this.
The fact that Phoenix nor Ifrit couldn’t take Bahamut solo just shows how strong he really is especially in Golden form. This soundtrack alone has game music of the year hands down.

The combat, the choreography, the boss fight, the music, the level everything is a masterpiece about FF XVI. I never got goosebumps from a boss fight with my mouth opened and this fight delivered, my GOTY.
I almost cried during this battle when I heard the part of the song that played during the Ambition trailer. I wasn’t sure if that was actually going to be in the game, but dang, there’s no more fitting place for it than the Bahamut fight.

In the Spanish version, Ifrit Risen is called Ifrit Omega. Reminds one of a infamous superboss in the franchise. Given the background of this form and Ultima’s purpose for it, imagine if once Ifrit and Phoenix merge together you see on top of the healthbar the name Omega Weapon instead. Savage.

I was actually screaming when he started casting Zettaflare. Bear in mind that the only other character that was ever able to cast that spell was Donald Duck.
I can say that seeing my niece next to me on these fight and she was amazed in a profound awe, you could see it in her face, her mind being blown by gaming, after that she started playing my game collection.
While I do gotta say that competition for GOTY this year is HUGE between this, Zelda, a From Software Game (Armored Core) and perhaps Spiderman 2 and Starfield, I have 0 doubt in my mind that THIS is the best soundtrack this year. Can’t wait for Soken to lift his trophy up man…

The chorus reminds me of Händel’s Messiah for some reason. Especially with that “Take flight” and “Guide my spirit” part.
Just wanted to share a cool fact.
I think that the Ancient Greek nature of the lyrics of this game’s OST is particularly visible here, from 1:19 to 1:29. It isn’t random choral gibberish.
Of course the lyrics are very hard to define, but there are many things that suggest it is indeed Greek. First of all, the two starting syllables that sound like “Egó”, which means “I”, and the final ones of the same section, that sound like “Stésō/Stēsa”, typical of compounds of the verb “Hístēmi”. In the second sections we instead have the even clearer repetition of the diphthong “oi”, which is VERY common in Ancient Greek, when there is a masculine noun in nominative or dative cases at the plural with an article behind it. Overall, the lyrics in this section may sound like this (it’s just my interpretation, so nothing of certain):

With these lyrics, even some qualitative distinctions between ēta/omega and epsilon/omicron may be respected, like how closed the epsilon in “sè” and how open the ē and ō are in “anastḗsō” and “astérōn” are. However, there are points of weakness for my reconstruction, like how the sigma of “ákrois” is not hearable (at least to my ears). But I firmly believe it is indeed Ancient Greek, still.
Sadly, the rest of the song is much less understandable than this single part, so I can’t really reconstruct much. But I hope this has been interesting to read, at least!

So, a small detail I don’t see enough people mentioning personally.
I have to hand it to CBU3. They turned Ifrit… The jobber, the tutorial boss, the “here’s how summons work now never use it again” guy… Into probably one of my favorite designs for a summon/Eikons/eidolon/etc. In any game.
Plus, going forward, much like how we have Bahamut, Neo-bahamut, Bahamut Zero, etc… We NEED Ifrit Risen as an end game summon in future games. Because holy hell is it one of the best designs final fantasy has ever made.

Ifrit Risen is actually the combination of ALL Eikons that Ultima create, which means the strongest Eikon in the game
that reminds me that Ifrit Risen is almost the same as Ultima Weapon in FFXIV, but Ultima Weapon in XIV is not as strong as Ifrit Risen i think
I will say small underrated moment. When you first get into orbit, Ifrit essentially does his own version of Omnislash on Bahamut. Move aside cloud, Godzilla wants the title of most badass Omnislash done to an enemy.

Honestly this was the final boss for me. Everything about it was just awesome. Joshua and Clive teaming up together with each having their own time to shine in separate phases and then joining together in the end. Saving the world from an attack that can burn the world. So damn epic.
I feel like XVI devs looked at the incredible summon moments (Noctis, Shiva and Bahamut v Ifrit; first time you summon Ramuh; Noctis v Titan; Noctis v Leviathan) in XV and said “what if we made those even more epic

At 2:53 the video lines up with the lyrics “On wings of faith” really nicely
You also gotta love this game’s adoration with huge damage numbers in these Eikon fights. The exact hit points almost seems superfluous when you’re tossing around 100k+ damage with some of the bigger hits, with the very last hit being 4,181,745 damage, which is around 5% of its total health.
Meanwhile, the very last hit on the final boss _only_ deals 999,999 damage. Then again, Clive is in his human form when he delivers that blow.
I’ve played so many games… the point is I never experience something as epic as this fight!!! Together with the music the whole experience is boiling the blood within my body. Nice edit by the way!

this fight proved donald duck is still the best magic user in any final fantasy-related game
This is right where the Game should’ve ended, soon after FFXVI drops in quality. Both Odin and Ultima boss battle sequences were extremelmy underwhelming.
I’m going to be brutally honest, this FF lacks orginality. I mean the fact story can be summed up as this; Dominants: Jinkchuriki, Odin: Madara, Ultima: Kaguya. This isn’t a mature FF game not by a long shot, it’s so bland and predictable. The same old power of friendship trope, we all heard a million times before.
I believe SquareEnix needs to consider retiring the Final Fantasy franchise. What happened to this once great company ? FF6-12 were absolute masterpieces

The Phoenix (and Ifrit too here) cuts through Bahamut’s devastating attack and through Bahamut himself ultimately defeating it.
Much like how it happens in the Flames of Truth Cinematic for FF 14.

This theme truly captured Dion’s character. A very noble dedicated to his duty yet struggling with his inner conflicts surrounding his country and his father. I see the violins as a representation of Dion’s confliction between his duty & his true feelings.
My niece watched me fight this from the low level dragon to the king himself. I can see it in her eyes and hear it in her voice… I remember everything she felt when I first played FF7 and the grand battle with the one winged angel… This was my niece’s one winged angel. It was so great to experience this with her, what a beautiful memory. I can’t wait to see what comes next in future FF games.

Back then FF music had magic, nostalgia, something truly amazing to it thanks to uematsu. Now it’s just boom boom loud orchestra look how loud I am and wannabe Sephiroth I am. Truly pathetic. This is probably one of the worst and chaotic track ever composed. It has no FF soul and magic to it. Truly lamentable. 👎🏻

Bahamut turning gold before charging zettaflare is almsot definitely a reference to Bahamut Fury, which coincidentally is one of the only other appearances of Bahamut in the entire series to use attacks on the scale of entire celestial bodies.

Ffxvi incarnation of Bahamut truly made me understand why he his the king of all dragons… shooting megaflare gigaflare teraflare zettaflare like it was just a joke bahamut didn’t mess around in this game and the ost truly depicted it.
Given that they subtitled an empowered Titan as “Titan Lost”, there was a missed opportunity to label Ifrit Risen’s Opponent as “Bahamut Fury.”

So many wonderful parts of this song, but 2:17 is where it goes from amazing to almost literally godly, as if it were a piece by one of the greats meant to inspire fear of / praise god.

Bahamut: *His variation is so mighty that Joshua claims that him firing it from space would basically cremate the entire planet below, requiring him and Clive to combine their powers to block it*
I think what makes this Bahamut the scariest iteration is that once he’s juiced up on aether for the finabout, he’s able to pop off Megaflares, Gigaflares, and SUPERNOVAS at the drop of a hat. Just think of how many time he’d be able to use Zettaflare against enemies that weren’t Eikons at his level.
I daresay this is my number one FF game now. The music, gameplay and story are incredible.

Think about it, you have individuals who are hosts to some of the most powerful beings within their respective worlds, can harness those powers either in a partial state or manifesting the full entity itself, and depending on where they are, are either respected and even treated as authority figures, or are ostracized and either seen badly or used as weapons of war. Some similarities I just noticed I guess

I love how this WHOLE boss fight was going through the metric system (Mega, Giga, Tera, Zeta). This just stimulate the math nerd in me.
Then the music just kicks in: Father-killer shoots a Zetaflare (boosted by the mothercrystal heart by factor of 15x). A Zetaflare is 15 QUADRILLION TIMES the strength a Megaflare.
And Clive+Joshua just completely negated it and swatted Bahamut.
