I’m a huge fan of FF games. I own them all but 1. The 1st FF game I did not buy is FF7 remake. As soon as I saw it was not FF7 but a new game. I dipped out and have no interest in FF7.
I am definitely looking for ward to FF16. If Yoshi P does what he did to FF14. Then I have no worries about 16 being good.

I’m playing 15 right now and there are sooooo many graphical issues. The water looks like hot ass. The reflections are so terrible in this game. And not to mention the mouth movements on characters are non existent. Square Enix has turned into another company that wants money and gives no fucks about putting out awesome content. Fuck the fans and people who grew up on FF. Honestly I would love to see another company take over and rebuild from the ground up.

Part of a game is now “full blown”

I’ll tell you why FFVII Remake didn’t sell so well. First of all, the remake is not complete, the game has been cut into pieces, and although many people say it is the full game, just like me the rest of the people think the game is not the full FFVII experience. I didn’t buy the game and I think I did the right thing. And second, reviews shows that it is not a faithful remake, for which I and other hardcore fans are not thankful. FFVII is no coincidence like RE2, where the original game was not stunning and minor changes only had a positive effect on the final product. FFVII was already a full product and bending the story content did not have a positive effect on its reception. Of course, this is my personal opinion.

Being temporary exclusive and selling in parts is what might set FF Remake back. In the past there were 4CDs but one price. Now they are breaking in several parts again but charging for every one of them. I hope Square doesn’t follow the same greedy path as EA and take a more CDPR style instead

When I first saw the trailer to FF 16 I was hugely disappointed, not in the graphics, but in the style. I played FF 14 for some time and came to the conclusion that I neither like the art style, nor the sheer repetitiveness of the quests and predictable story outcomes.
Watching your video now makes clear to me as to why I disliked what I saw at first glance – the new Final Fantasy just seemed like they’re trying to reinstall FF 14 as a single player experience (although I hope that’s just me getting them feels from seeing those graphics and I’m totally wrong about this).
Either way, I’m most likely pre-ordering the game anyway, but damn do I hope they’ll go nowhere near FF XIV in any of the aspects I’ve mentioned above…

I wish square would focus strictly on finishing ff7 remake part 2. Part 1 was great and the “twist” at the end was even better. When I hear about new FF games releasing, I’m always hoping they are as good and have as much life as FF7 did.. I finally played 8 and 12(remake) and was very pleased with the whole story, 9 was great, all parts of 10 were great. I havent given 14 and 15 a fair chance yet but the premise hasn’t stuck with me yet.

Its seems like people really wanted a 7 remake a decade ago and that’s when millions more copies would had sold, though I feel the wait was worth it, I was saddened to hear it would be released in parts. For how much time has gone by, I feel, they should had had the whole entire game finishes and released as a whole by now, like all other ff games. So if they are gonna do this part thing, and want to not let the hype die down, they should really put all their focus on creating all parts and have a yearly release of them until ff7 remake is finished..imo

Graphics don’t determine a games quality but presentation is important depending on what an indivdual game goes for. I can forgive a game for not being graphically impressive as long as it has something else to grip me like good gameplay or good story. I mean I love the telltale Walking Dead games and the gameplay in them isn’t anything special but thats ok cause it doesn’t need to be as its narrative drives it. I’ve played plenty of really bad games that are actually otherwise beautiful in the graphics department so graphics shouldn’t really be everyones first concern when it comes to video games.

The gameplay looks amazing but the characters look a bit generic looking in the face, almost like they were made in a realm reborn.

I dont think many people understand this has been in development for years. Meaning they had to work off of Xbox One and PS4 hardware. I don’t think the problem lies so much with the graphics…
I do think we can expect it to look better in the future, but I personally am not a big fan of the Akihiko Yoshida in-game artstyle they occasionally go for…
As much as I love 14, 12, and all the subsequent Ivalice stuff, there’s a running joke between me and my friends about Final Fantasy’s “same face syndrome” (basically how everyone looks the same save for their hairstyles and colors) and it’s even more noticeable especially after FF7 remake came out, where everyone looks rather unique, with different facial structures, noses, eyes…
Some of the people calling it shit graphics are definitely just your usual trolls, karens, impatient consumers and whatnot, but I can’t really blame the ones that at first glance found the character design to look a bit generic (in a bunch of reactions, a lot of people even thought it looked like 14, most of them keep thinking it IS 14 until combat pops up).
Don’t get me wrong, I’m hype for the game, and I have faith in this dream team, but I am a bit disappointed with the art direction for the characters this time around.
It is indeed a small complaint, but one that is very noticeable and that newcomers or people who see it for the first time take seriously.
WIth that said the costumes, armor, setting, monsters and music are on point for me. I do hope we get to see some crazier looking places and landmarks this time around though. We’ve only just seen a lot of low-fantasy, witcher-esque locations so far, and coming from 15, where imo the open world was pretty weak in it’s art direction, I do hope they’re going for heavy fantasy instead of just making it a Dark Ages final fantasy with nothing really standing out as intriguing or awe-inspiring (it’s the 14 team though, and that game has some crazy vistas, so I’m not too worried about that) .

I am waiting for the full FF 7 game to come out. I think a lot of people want the full FF7 game and not just the first part. They took so long to make the first part I don’t want to beat the first part and wait another 5 years to play part 2.

The graphics are likely the same as FF15 windows edition 4k, and the art chara design seems inspired from FF12. So about graphics nothing to be impressed, as it has been for each FFantasy lauching console title. That’s why people are disapointed. FF15 dev was a mess; but the engine was impressive.

Listen, this is Final Fantasy. Square didn’t make its bones by producing subpar graphics. Their games look eye pleasingly good for their time. This looks like every RPG made by a lesser studio with love and not Square flexing their artistic, graphical creative muscle. Looks good… but not next gen Square “shine” good. People expect better from Square. Expecially on a next gen console.

FFXV has sold almost 9 million units worldwide. On 2 consoles plus PC, during a span of 4 years. Witcher 3 passed the 12 million mark this past April, on 3 consoles plus PC, over the span of 5 years. Freaking Diablo 3 has sold 30 million units on 5 consoles plus PC over a span of 8 years since its 2012 release. But FF7R selling 5 million units in 5 months is disappointing? What were they smoking at Squeenix HQ when they made that 10M projection?

It’s amazing. I watched the trailer once and thought it’s the trashiest Final Fantasy ever. Including, “mother crystal”, “legacy of the crystal” etc. Nothing can fix that level of camp dialogue, especially with 4 years in development already, which means more has been finalized. That means this wasn’t really PS5 graphics, Square wanted to show you the fruits of their labor, I’m hyped I been playing final fantasy games for years. I’m hoping it scratches that Witcher itch in a FF way. FF7 remake was pretty cool but I don’t think it’s gonna age well because of how bad the lvl design and pacing was. The graphics were fine. I don’t know what people are moaning about. It’s not they released FO76 or any Bethesda game. The character models look great, pretty close to 7R’s. And without the rampant hair dithering issues that XV had on consoles while using somewhat of a sister engine that XV used.

I’m still exited about the game, but I have to be honest the character models are a little disappointing. I see people trying to say it’s the art style etc, but it just looks a little dated to me and that was my 100% honest reaction from the first time I saw the trailer. The facial expressions also are pretty bland and don’t seem “next gen”. We will see what the final game looks like.

It is currently about 65% complete.

So far, every single expansion in XIV has been great as far as story, world building and characters. You could take Heavensward, Stormblood or Shadowbringers and turn any of them into a single player game with great success.

I think this is the right way to go. They already have the family friendly enjoyable by kids and adults crowd dragon quest, this almost seems like if 6 were to be fully remade and slightly reimagined. 6 had some incredibly dark themes that if done correctly would be memorable in mainstream media of all things. Imagine if we had played the doma section and arrived there and it was a big part of the game and we see kefka finally arrive in all his evil glory brutally poison everyone and watching family and friends dying in each other’s arms as a madman commits genocide. If we got to know all the little people and their politics it makes for great story telling

Square isn’t afraid that their game, the 11th best selling PS4 game of all time, FFVII, didn’t sell twice as many copies. Yall need to CHILL. This game looks amazing. If you think its ripping something off you aren’t an OG ff player. This upcoming console generation has been met with serious pessimism. I don’t know what people are expecting from the next gen. Graphics aren’t getting much better from here on. Development cost, asset quality and dev time are really capping.
What else is there to Improve? We’ve got high res textures, making games dozens of gigabytes. We’ve got good soft shadows, realistic real time lighting, great animations.

They Need to make the graphics look better because it looks like shit. I don’t care if it is a throwback or similar to 14 (which was made to work on PS3) Final Fantasy has always been about pushing graphics forward beyond anything done before. Add in realistic facial texturing, pores, and hair detail or don’t call it ff16. If their intention is to make Final Fantasy more main stream again then they have to make the graphics way better because normal western audiences that don’t usually play japanese RPGs won’t play a game just on looks alone.

I remember an interview(likely 2 years ago) when one of the producers were speaking on making a map twice as large as 15. Looking at it, I still can’t picture how the journey could feel, but if we do gain that super mystic open world 🌎 wit the crazy dangerous caves/mountains/forests/fields to walk through. From chocobos to riding boats/airships across a gigantic map…? You think they can bring us to that type of classic style? As well as this upgraded gameplay wit various party members. Ppl say the graphics are downgraded, but the amount of content can be the cause for that too(n hopefully they do bring us to the roots of FF with real time combat, n tons of leveling/armor/weapons/magic/monsters/bosses/secrets/story/movie scenes/themes). I mean it is Ps5…

Both FF13 and 15 E3 trailers were just so different from the actual game so I welcome this change. However, I am disappointed by Unreal 3 engine level graphic FF16 that looks worse than the original FF13reveal trailer that came out on PS3. I hope they are not trying to go against Halo Infinite and want to be the worst looking next gen triple A game.

This really feels like the first mainline FF game we’ve gotten since 13. ff15 was such a mess.

DreamcastGuy, I think that Final Fantasy 16 should wait until Final Fantasy 7 Remake is done, and the reason that I want 16 to wait is so that 7 Remake can be finished in the right way, usually when more than one game is being worked on mistakes are made during the development of both so in my opinion 16 should wait at least wait until 7 Remake is finished. Can someone who has only ever played FF7R jump into FF16 as a newcomer and be fine?

I’m a big FF fan myself. But I did see what people were saying with the gameplay graphics. The lighting seemed bad in almost every scene, it made everything feel flat & unnatural. Even FFXV looked better in-game from what I remember. But that said, I am hyped, I love the plot & mature style. FFXIV’s DLC’s are great, and I feel like this is the right direction for the series.

Heard a few people mention the rating do stores over there actually still take rating into consideration when selling games? In Australia stores couldn’t care less aslong as your paying for it. My local JBHiFi even has a meme up about it “game ratings be like” then the Simpson’s meme “do not enter…… or enter im a sign not a cop”

Majority Western people only care about graphics which is fine and I have no problem with it but when it comes to certain games. It’s absolutely annoying when it’s the #1 criticism 🤷🏾‍♂️

Honestly I’m all for this new direction of showing us in-engine footage. If you remember about two console generations ago, FF often had more concept like footage in their trailers. Just look at the trailers for FF13.

As far as FF7 remake sales, they will pick up once THE COMPLETE EDITION is released. I know a good amount of others that didnt purchase because it’s not the whole game.

Final Fantasy is turning into Assassins Creed & Horizon Zero Dawn. Open world with a tonne of content, which for me, I think is a good thing. My only criticism with the FF16 trailer was the graphics. Lighting & textures just weren’t there & I could count the number of pixels in Shivas tiara. Other than that I’m super excited.

I welcome it. Lets look at the track record of final fantasy lately. after FFX, FFX-2 was silly, FFXI was impractical (i loved the game but back then i barely worked. If you didn’t have a LOT Of time on your hands when that game came out, it was hard to do anything. Soloability ended after level 10 and shouting for a group could take hours if you played certain classes). FFXII was iffy, FFXIII and it’s sequels no one wants to ever talk about, FFXIV was garbage, and FFXV was a chopped up unfinished disaster. (These are just my opinions, how i feel about them, but there IS truth behind a lot of this too)

Now enter Yoshi P. Him and his crew goes in and fixes FFXIV and turns a game that almost bankrupted the company into one of the biggest MMO’s today. I played some of 1.0…and came back for 2.0. I’ve bene playing for 4 years or so now and still do to this day. He’s had some really good ideas in the past and FFXIV’s story is one of its strong points. I say give the guy and this crew some time…we seen a 4 min trailer. Hell we don’t even know what truly anything is yet. As far as the combat, I do hope it’s not a DMCish 1v1 everything in the game. I’d like to see party members but I say they’ll be in there, we’re just seeing bits and pieces. The whole phoenix is symbolic too i think because of the game – it’s a fresh start, like a phoenix rising and hopefully will put FF back on some sort of track.

If you know anything about current FFXIV, there’s different worlds, shards. In Shadowbringers you get summoned to one of those alternate worlds. I have a feeling this game MAY be one of those shards as well, maybe that’s why there’s such a strong resemblance to it as well (just speculation, that’s all.)

As far as FFVIIR goes, of course it only sold 5ish million. It’s 1/3 of the game and most are holding out for the entire game or for it to go off of exclusivity and come to pc/other consoles. I know it’s a 40+ hour game (i have it, FF is also my favorite game and i’ve been playing since i was a kid, straight from FF1)…but still, the STORY is a 20 year old story (and i know it’s not going to be the same) But everyone i know that’s grown up with the game have said the same thing to me – “i’ll wait until it’s finished.”

Should have released it on all consoles if they wanted more copies sold.

I think FF7 Remake didn’t sell as anticipated because of the pandemic. It was a great improvement from FFXVI imo. Also, I am excited to see Final Fantasy return to its roots. I think FFVI is the best game in the series, but FFIX is my personal favorite, and I think it came the closest to capturing what the developers couldn’t fully realize with the first iteration of the game.

I think graphic is a big dissapointment. Looks like ps3 era. I hope they improve it. Horizon zero looked better on ps4.

My biggest problem isn’t with the graphics, but with how the combat has evolved the last bunch of games. I just have not enjoyed anything past FF12. FF13 was okay – it still felt like FF – but nothing felt like FF after that and it actually seems like it’s going in a more dark souls or god of war direction, which I absolutely hate.

I am truly hyped for XVI, it reminds me a lot of Final Fantasy 2. The graphics might hide it, but that storyline was a hell of mature, remember, the parents of the characters were all killed by the empire in the start of the game, and themselves almost were gone.

The only good final fantasy titles were the turn based ones because they were able to focus more on story and narrative instead of overly complicated bosses and battles.

I skipped ff15 because of the whole ‘bros being bros’ type of vibe I got from it looked lame but this one looks solid. Looks more like a book series that I’ve been into (grim-dark fantasy)

It’s seems pretty awesome so far. I am *very* glad it’s returned to being set in *high fantasy* and not H&M Japan Fashion Model Boy Band riding around in a luxury car on a freeeway and fight out-of-place fantasy monsters. Presentation wise and aspects of it seem heavily “inspired” by Game and Thrones and The Witcher….
Though right now I am 1000x more excited for Bravely Default II for the Switch… I hope there’s more information on that game soon…

I thought that, for the most part, the graphics of the trailer were pretty good. I the the Malboro looked fantastic, and I thought some of the character faces looked somewhat plain or unfinished. Nonetheless, I have confidence that the product will be excellent, and I will be getting it as soon as I can!

The problem with Final Fantasy post FF X it has lost its identity, FF XII was alright but wrong direction of the main protagonist, less we talk about the XIII trilogy the better, and we all forget XIV was completely broken and they had to come out and apologies, Fixed it with Reborn XIV, and WoFF was CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED, and Gems like Nier and Automata but FF XV took forever and a day to come out only to be a boy band action RPG that you had to watch a movie, play a free demo and watch an anime among other things to experience the whole story, all while running my favorite series into the ground Kingdom Hearts…

So for obvious reasons these days you gotta keep an eye on square in the modern era. FF XVI …. Just looks okay, graphics are amazing but the character design is very rudimentary, the combat is like I said a great DMC/Bayonetta game but post FF X its lost its identity.

I truly believe you make a Final Fantasy game with the buff graphics it always has and make it progressive turn base it would still sell gang busters.

Id be more worried about how the rest of FF7 Remake turns out before fawning over 16.

Finale fantasy 15 wasn’t really all that good when it came to multiplayer mode like it sucked hardcore however if final fantasy 16 has online multiplayer as well it better be like free roaming or open world type that u will be able to join people an taking on quests or explore the world online.

At first i only wanted ff7re.prt2.,but now im interested in this. I think it has potential, lots of unanswered questions though. Dont get to hyped up yet man, i think its to soon to say stuff like hundreds of quests and big world to wonder around and get lost in lol, i knew u were just getting to hyped on not knowing anything. I used to like old school final fantasy but ever since 13 it’s been a dud, I wish they would stop trying to reinvent the wheel go back to the time turn battles and I always hated the class system give each character their own class, no class switching, I’m glad they’re going back to a fantasy setting

I’d be very happy if FFXVI is M for mature. FFXV felt very toned down about what it could be and show. Even model viewer was censored so you couldn’t see female characters from certain angles. I loved that game, but O really hope this one is the 10/10 it should be.

I think they will release this on 2021 and during 2022 milk it with DLc, then in 2023 the 2nd part of the remake

bad? I get toned down and not as overly extravagant as past FF have been, and I contend it’s not the absolute best looking next gen game on a technical level . . . but bad? To me it looks like a real product, it’s not trying to over promise, it looks like a game they want to make in a responsible and timely manner, which for me is more exciting than anything else tbh. Also put the npc filler characters next to 15’s filler characters . . . 16 feels way more consistent, like the main character while still having anime hair at least looks like he belongs on the same planet as everyone else haha.

I will be honest – the last good Final Fantasy of the mainline was XIV and that is a MMO. I discount the VII Remake since it was basicly reworking number VII and pushing it to the current time. FF XV has reduced my hype for this franchise – it was not my type of this RPG line. At the moment I would be rather more hyped if a new Grandia would be somewhere in development.
For now I will wait until we get more information about this game. Also locking this game behind the PS5 gate is currently not enhancing the hype level for me…

Look in my opinion, the game’s graphics actually looked great, the only thing that looked sorta sub-par was the hair on some of the characters. Either way, I’m still excited!

Something that caught my attention when i first saw the trailer was ” The legacy of the crystal has shaped our history for long enough”, it’s like a way for them to say that Final Fantasy is evolving from what they were since the beginning. I really hope it becomes that Great Final Fantasy story that changed the gaming industry. Don’t let us down Square!

For those of you too young to remember Final Fantasy back before it turned into the mess it is today, FF XVI is totally taking FF back to its fantasy roots. The medieval tone and crystals legend are taken straight from FF1-4. And the Game of Thrones M-rating vibes are right out of Final Fantasy Tactics in 1997.

I hated final fantasy 15 – it looked great, but played like shit. it felt like they gave an artist too much control over the game, rather than game designers or combat designers. If combat is like ff7 remake, it could be good. If it is based on ff15 combat, it will probably suck.

Bad graphics? I would take non-cutting edge graphics if FF can finally have some good characters and storytelling again. The games Falcom makes look like they’re from the PS2, but I would take them over any of the FF single player games made in the last 20 years.

I am liking the look and feel of FF 16. Feels like and looks like another version of FF Type-0. Only set in a more classical FF setting. I am not worried about the graphics as graphics to me are not a complete deal breaker. I am more into the story the characters and the gameplay. So far I am happy but still cautious about what the future holds of the FF franchise.

I really think graphics are extremely subjective what’s good to some people is not good to others like all art. I have a friend that things are games not made in the current generation are trash because of their graphics. Meanwhile I can play a game like samurai showdown 2 that was made over 20 years ago and still appreciate things that to me still look great. It’s all subjective bro when it comes to graphics.

I”m all for new and different. I feel that is a big aspect of the spirit of Final Fantasy. I, really, believe we haven’t seen nearly enough to extrapolate the faintest idea of what the whole of this game will become. They really are keeping this one close to their vest, and I can’t wait.

While I’m fine of sci-fi elements in my Final Fantasy I have been itching for a new Final Fantasy that embraced the fantasy, that was more Medieval in its setting. So I was so happy when Final Fantasy XVI gave me just that.

I haven’t been excited about a Final Fantasy game since IX. Square Enix doesn’t know what they’re doing anymore. FF XVI looks like a cheap ripoff of The Witcher and The Game of Thrones. Personally I don’t want an ‘edgy’ Final Fantasy. I have no interest in playing a game based in the middle ages where the characters sound like the Trailer Park Boys.

I’m open to it and will probably buy it at some point but I definitely don’t have the hype I should have for a numbered FF. It honestly just seems like a cash grab to me while they work on the real focus for Square which is FFVIIR2. I think a numbered FF should only be for HUGE projects and this doesn’t seem like a big project to me considering the graphics and the outsourcing to a different studio.
