He just soaks up damage and talks.
The pattern of Barnabas reminds me of Ishinn Ashina in Sekiro
Idk why Square consider this game a failure, this game is f’n amazing!
Even tho he’s my least favorite villain in terms of build up and how rushed he feels, his fight was great. That laugh on the last phase was chilling as hell.
Eikon of Darkness
Remember the name of the quest you fight Barnabas for the final time in? The Last King. Fitting as the kingdom of waloed is the last in ash to fall. With only the grand duchy of Rosaria and Dhalmekian Republic are the only nations in all of Valesthia that survived. The former being restored after the fall of the holy empire of Sanbreque and crystalline dominion.
23:54 It was at this moment that he knew… he f*cked up
19:15 the use of flames of rebirth fit so well here
Bro I hate how these guys try to kill the dude before he speaks his lore
the fight was kinda boring and underwhelming
Also every video of this battle I’ve seen they’re all at lvl 45 lol and I was too when I fought him
I really enjoyed this fight!!!
Y’all know how this fight should have played out, in 3 phase like this:
Phase 1: Ifrit vs Odin on Sleipnir fight that resembles the V vs Elder Geryon Knight fight from DMC5.
Phase 2: Ifrit vs Odin fight that resembles the Dante vs Cavaliere Angelo fight for DMC5.
Phase 3: Clive vs Barnabas
This boss was so fucking cheap. It took me 10 times to get past the Zentsuken after he goes crazy.
Then he constantly spams that big move you can’t avoid that knocks you back. I had to result to using the ring of timely evasion and that didnt even work 😂
Loved the music and Barnabas personality but I will never want to fight against him again.
I will continue to relive this annoying of Mythos and Barnabis through YouTube 🤣🥴
It is a remake of Singing in the Rain, which is exactly what it is.
Uh Barney… He is not Mythos.
He is Logos.
Clive: why thank you for your power.
“Its not my will that should worry you but the weakness of yours” is such a cold line. Clive really hits those one liners
this game needs to win game of the year its just to dam good
“THAT I MIGHT REVEL IN IT” has similar vibes to “BEEAAAAAR WIITNESSSSSSSS”
Music: Titan
Spectacle: Bahamut
Mechanics: Odin
Anyone else stuck at the 3rd section? I can never deplete his purple bar & the next attack is a one shot 😤😤😤
The voice actor for Barnabas is incredible, I love how he progressively comes more and more insane as the fight rages on.
Odin is my favorite icon
I have to admit the bosses in this game are quite something. VII, XIII, and XVare still my all time favorites followed by VIII, X, and IX, but XVI is catching up into the top 10 just because of the cinematic scenes and boss fights. 😊
SquareEnix you did a darn good job in creating another beautiful game that I’m loving in the franchise. I haven’t yet played it, but I hope to soon.
Imagine if all boss fights were as epic as these
This was a hard fight, worthy of being a boss fight. Had to every single item at my disposal, including that final phoenix down thingy (that you only get one of). Maybe I just suck in my old age lol, but holy crap the only other time it came down to the wire like that was the first fight against Garuda.
16:22 Show me your worth, Mythos… *THAT I MIGHT REVEL IN IT!!!*
The move at 20:30 when Odin reaches full power that’s called:”Woden Worhte Weos”, is a line of the Maxims I, an Old English poem. In this line, the God Odin is described in constrasted with the Christian’s God and the line in particular means: Woden (Odin in old english, one of the over 170 name that he has in history) wrought idols, perhaps implying his primacy over the other gods.
Barnabas may have been a pretty flat character, but his voice acting is amazing. I love how he goes completely insane towards the end.
Huge Vergil vibes from this boss too, it was definitely one of the harder ones for me. A shame the Odin segments are so short but it’s still great overall.
Although the fight is not as epic as other eikon fights , but Barnabas boss fight for me is the hardest . I used up every portion i have just to beat him .
20:26
Yoshi-P: “So, Barnabas is your rival character who is colored in blue and you have a climactic sword fight against him in the rain as he yells about how inferior you are, because he is *motivated-* ”
Staff member: “So Vergil”
Yoshi-P: “Alright, you understand the assignment perfectly, so get to it”
Barnabas is the new Zenos.
Update: But Zenos is still better
Barnabas is probably the hardest boss fight in the game because you don’t fight him as Ifrit.
It’s a massive skill test and it doesn’t get more badass than this.
” I am yours, Mythos! Claim me as your prize! ” Jesus Christ I did not expect this to be my endgame damn 😂
How does one unlock that dodge ability whenever the R1 button appears on the screen?
This fight is motivating
I can’t seem to prevent his Zantetsuken attack. I thought this vid might help but he’s using the crutch ring.
12:57 almost had a heart attack thinking Torgal died when I played this part
So can you get Odin and summon him in battle?
This dude is powerful I will give him that.
15:37 This whole speech got my adrenaline rushing into the final battle
…So Barnabas is a survivor of the Fallen Civilization then?
When you realize Barnabas was played like fiddle for generations
I’m surprised no one in the comments noticed that that’s Malos from Xenoblade Chronicles 2 that Clive’s fighting. David Menkin’s ability to go from calm and collected to full on shouting to maniacal cacking is terrific range. Wait, Barnabas is Malos and Ultima is Z…? Well played, Square Enix! Well played!
I kept hearing that the Barnabas fight was so disappointing. Now that I’ve actually done it, I feel like I couldn’t disagree more. I think it was one of the most intense and aesthetically cool boss fights in the game. Sure, we didn’t get a full Odin and Ifrit fight, but honestly, I didn’t mind. Despite all the spectacle, I kind of thought Titan and Bahamut were a bit TOO over the top and took too long to complete. The Barnabas fight lasted just long enough, and his descent into deeper madness over the course of the fight was truly unsettling.
I think the Benedikta fight is still my favorite boss in the game, but Barnabas might well be a close second.
Not go lie I was expecting the man scream INDEED!!!
Loved Odin’s monologue from 15:37, absolutely brilliant voice acting.
Barnabus is crazy 15:38
I like how David Menkin (Barnabas) has a North American accent IRL and you can hear that with Malos in Xenoblade 2 where the cast is otherwise full of British voice actors, but he is actually originally from Norway and that his accent was just very developed, so it sounds like he tapped into the voice of his earlier days speaking English for the role of the major Norse deity’s Dominant. Especially since Barnabas is mentioned to not even be of Ash, so giving him an approximate yet foreign quality that adds to him.
28:06 Barnabas Tharmr is going to hell. If he want Revenge on Clive Rosfield fight again. We will hope in Dissidia Final Fantasy for PS5.
Still mad we didn’t get an Eikon battle with Odin Primed. This was a very disappointing battle 🙁
Once more, David Menkin has proven he’s an *amazing* actor!
just please explain to me
just why barnabas that was so strong at the first encounter like he can snap clive in a single finger
became so weak in the second encounter ???
when clive doesn’t do anything to toe him toe to toe except do some “scene” with jill in the beach ?
is that the only developement that clive had? need to overcame barnabas?
or just barnabas do it deliberately? so mythos can become a perfect vessel?
non è Davide di Bologna
è di Adriano Celentano Stefano
è per maschio
I was hyped that the eikon fight with odin would be epic and was thinking he’s the dark warden and clive alone lost twice against barnabas so I was thinking the fight would be clive/ifrit with bahamut (warden of light) against odin! A little bit disappointed tbh but the theme was amazing at the end!
Barnabas really fights like no other Dominant, the way he goes in and out of various previously unseen stages of Priming is incredibly impressive, and it’s like he can semi-Prime to a state where he can concentrate Odin’s full power without having to sacrifice speed or go into the huge form and make a big target of himself, he shows amazing control of his Eikon, like he IS Odin. It may not be the big Eikon Vs. Eikon spectacle like some of the other bosses, but still an amazing fight that really showcased a Dominant using their abilities at full potential, and the way he becomes more psychotic as the fight goes on having finally found a worthy opponent, fucking love it.
“Like sheep, they roam in filthy flocks, eager to trample those few gifted a fleece of gold”, damn
15:40 HIM laugh.
why does he have a trigger for precision dodge? is that an item or story difficulty?
how do you do that quick step where time slows down and you press R1 to dash behind enemy,
The Mickey Mouse gameplay with the dodging lowkey is aggravating to watch
Not the dodge ring.
How the hell did you get that many potions? I got to this part having only 3-4
the only thing i wish is that they had done is let the last segment of the fight be without his helmet. like around 15:30 when he does the sick descent into reveling, i wanted to see the emotions on his face, man!
and this is why ps5 overheats?
I wanna know what the crazy voice sounds like without all the filters because I bet the VA was having fun
Anybody else sad we didn’t get the eikon fight for Odin?😢
Hardest fight I had , and the thematic was crazy
This is how the fight between Jaime Lannister and the Mad King could’ve been.
I came back here just to say…Barnabas should’ve been the main villain
This fight is so good because it feels personal.
Last phase he has pretty much become zenos becuse it seems like he is happy to finally find a worthy opponent especially when he says his heart is beating fast filling him with joy.
Odin means “Frenzy” or “Madness” and Barnabas lives up to that when he finally cuts loose. David Menkin goes fucking ham and it’s glorious.
This Odin is what Odin should have been in God of War Ragnarok. Including having an epic scale fight.
Barnabas went so insane his VA switched to the voice he used for Malos in Xenoblade 2 XD
15:28 Funniest moment in the game without a doubt.
Personally the robotic like voices that are used on a decent amount of characters(specifically antagonist) from a few ff games kind of ruin the moment of otherwise great fights and characters.
I kinda like how it sounds initially like the whole “you’ve made a weapon of your weakness” bit is sarcastic, even the way Barnabas says “I apologize”. Then he says “You are not the fool I took you for”, and you realize he’s being sincere.
And then, he lets loose.
21:40 this moment in particular.. I don’t know why but I just love it
Fight between a pair of people with a red/blue color scheme in the rain at night on top of a tower, this really is just Eikon May Cry 3: Clive’s Awakening
The laugh at 15:35 gets me every time 🤣🤣
that laugh Barnabas makes is insane
6:02 the timing with which the music joins and the transformation of barnabas is wonderful even creepy
What’s that dodge technique with R1?
Before this fight I was liking Barnabas since he was giving off classic FF villains vibes. Then the transition to his final phase happened and he went from good to great. I was so happy when he went full Zenos mode, turning his character into the unholy child of Zenos and Ravana, who was raised by a cult. Props to the voice actor and Soken because the VA’s delivery combined with Odin’s theme really sold the character.
Also that laugh he did with the helmet on was terrifying.
What’s the dodge he does when the final phase starts
Who is this Odin? I’m Odin.
When I first beat this boss fight i was disappointed we didn’t get a full Eikon fight like Bahamut, but looking back on it now it makes a lot more sense that we fought him mainly in his semi prime form. The Eikon of Odin wasn’t really the main thing that made Barnabas so strong, it was the black blade paired with his masterful swordsmanship that was regarded as the best in all of Valisthea that made him so OP, so the fact the we straight up whooped his ass while just using sword and no eikon just goes to show you how badass Clive is. Still not better than Bahamut though.
And torgal been thinking on barnabas. “Silly human”
This was an alright boss fight, but given the standard of the game’s boss fights by this stage (compared with Titan/Bahamut) I feel like this fight could have gone a step further. Especially given how badass they built Barnabas up to be in several cutscenes leading up to this.
Dude is playing the handicapped version
This boss fight was disappointing, short, and boring
can i just say that after 16:00, barnabas sounds freakishly exactly like bill cypher from gravity falls. especially during his psychotic laughing. I love this fight so much.
Just got done with this fight and honestly this is probably my 3rd fav fight in game and i say third cuz nothing is topping titian and bahamut fights for me personally
From 15:42 I was beyond hype grinning ear to ear, this boss challenegd ne the most in the best possible way and while i was underwhlemed at first, now I really appreciate this fight. I can count on one hand how many games made me actually scream “LETS F***ING GO I WAS WAITING FOR THIS…”
When he laughed at Clive midway, I burst out laughing. This is one of the funnest battles, in my opinion, but nothing tops Bahamut.
How Torgal got through this fight is beyond me 😂 good pup
It probably might be just me, but I personally found this fight, or at least the last phase, to be a little underwhelming. Barnabas’s story is good, but I didn’t didn’t get a lot of tension or excitement from this Eikon fight, in contrast to the previous ones.
Odin being a villian character….the raintop arean……everything was just sublime!
I like how Barnabas reclaims his *motivation* as the fight progresses.
Seems like this is one of those fights where people think it is either good or bad.
I thought this man was the Sephiroth clone, turns out he’s the freaking Zenos clone. He dropped that whole holier than thou act as soon as he got battle horny.
Using Final Fantasy I Main theme as the back sound for Barnabas speech, give me shivers
Geez you can tell from the dialogue that Barnabas’ voice actor was REALLY enjoying it a lot at 15:41 Barnabas: Don’t tell me you are TIRED, Mythos!? Your stubborn defiance has stirred my long-becalmed heart! Filling it with a… *JOY* that I have not known for generations! I had thought the tantalizing kiss of self-indulgence a dream forever out of my reach! And now that its sweet ruin courses through my veins, I shall not be quick to relinquish it! SHOW ME YOUR WORTH MYTHOS….THAT I MIGHT *REVEL IN IT!*
Am I the only one that thinks he should have been the main villain in the game instead of Ultima lol
Odin’s Shakespearean monologues make me cringe so hard lol
Barnabas is motivated and needs more power XD
the plotarmor in this game is even worse than friendship in fairy tail.
I expected more from this boss. The final eikon, the strongest one but all we got is a ordinary knight with a big sword. The build up: the fight in sea, climbing up the tower… all for just a typical, boring sword fight. 3/10 from me
Cmon bruh…. the evade ring? Really? 😂
I love that the music gives the sense of Odin riding the storm
This whole fight against Odin is the perfect love letter to Devil May Cry fans. You don’t fight him as your Eikon, the final arena in the rain is just like the one at the top of Temen-ni-gru, his attacks are just like Vergil’s, and best of all he becomes MOTIVATED.
The one thing I feel disappointed by is that Clive got absolutely fucking clapped a few times before this, but he comes in and stands a chance now without much of a reason plot wise. Still an amazing fight, just wish it had a better build up and he had to power up from a crystal or something to be able to do anything
what happens if you let him gather all the darkness?
The arguments both are making are very interesting, but I can’t not agree with my man Clive. While it’s true us humans ain’t nowhere near the level of God, he didn’t create us to “serve,” but rather so we can live. That I can get behind.
Clive had some serious plot armor against Odin lol
What level where you guys when you got here
Initially I was disappointed we didn’t get a big spectacle Eikon fight but then after I defeated Odin and the more I thought about it, the boss fight was pretty damn amazing. It was Clive vs. Barnabas with bits of Ifrit vs. Odin. Hearing Barnabas absolutely lose his mind while fighting Clive was definitely the highlight.
i really love that Odin’s (and maybe Ultima’s?) theme that starts at 2:55 is basically the ff1 overworld theme but slowed down. i kept thinking how it sounded so familiar and then it just clicked. Instead of being full of hope it’s almost like a… dirge? not sure if that’s accurate or not.
Bahamut was an amazing spectacle. Barnabus/Odin is a one (plus Torgal) on one duel that felt so fun to experience and test what I’ve learned thus far. Plus the music change is fantastic.
But can someone explain how during the final phase the player was able to use the LB attacks outside of LB? I just beat the game and not once did I ever see myself able to do without having to burn my LB to… well to use that moveset. Unless it’s the game being confused or one of the accessibility rings doing it.
Dang him and his bbl soft kissable lips
Best fight imo, incredible
I loved barnabas’s theme from the very start but damn it’s awesome how upbeat and celebration esque the boss theme is, makes it feel like the best 1v1 duel I’ve ever had the joy of playing since Slave Knight Gael
I see what they were going for with the duel thing but it’s still a shame there weren’t many cinematic/epic moments in this fight. They hyped him up so much from the beginning and it’s the least epic boss fight in the game, even if it requires more mechanical skill. Could have had both imo.
The design of odin is amazing. The Image of the Dark knight. 👍👍
What is the flame dodge used in this?
Y’all he almost clapped me at a segment of health and i popped my stance shift last decond and ran through his aoe arena attack and used the a Titan windup to kill him😂😂😂 fuck I Love this game
So Square Enix had to copy Malos from Xenoblade? He even has the same voice actor.
The same soundtrack every bossfight feels a bit meh, a unique theme for each boss makes them way more memorable and enjoyable, ofc only my silly opinion 🙂
of all eikon battles this was the most less fun. some were insane like titan and bahamut, i hoped it would be more insane every battle. although the ultima battle is kinda crazy tho
Darksiders
I choose what once, a coward did not.
the passion behind the “that i might revel in it!” line gave me chills man
16:29 ost kinda sounds like a celebration to me, the change in the ost made it my favorite fight in the game, though not as big in scale as the others before, it’s last half does it justice
Sadge, the dude get no crystal to eat like Titan and Bahamut.
I can count on one hand how many line reads that are so filled with ones soul as “SO I MIGHT REVEL IN IT!!!” that i can remember from media as a whole let alone any recent games. That monologue, and his unhinged laughter, alone made Barnabus go from so-so to me to one of my absolute top performances in this already amazing game.
Easily the best fight in the game, mechanically anyway. Titan is a great fight, but it’s not as fun or replayable, it’s just a great first time experience.
Odin boss felt lackluster compared to other Eikons imo. We barely see his Eikonic form and the scale of the battle is so small compared to fights like Bahamut and Titan.
good fight
He’s like a fusion of Vergil from Devil May Cry, Mihawk from One Piece and Upper Rank 1 from Demon Slayer.
By the way he bifurcated me so much that I run out of every consumable.
As soon as i got to 9.08 I was very confused what the hell the original Final Fantasy I overworld theme was doing here playing while Barnabas is giving a speech.
This Barnabas fellow should have been the ultimate main villain.
This game’s combat is basically what FFXV should have been like.
Specifically when playing as Luna, who would use the power of the gods/eikons to fight.
Too bad we never got so see much of prime Odin but he had one the best themes out of the bosses
“Don’t tell me you’re tired, Mythos”
🙄 uhh excuse me, do you see Ifrit running and jumping around while you riding your horse?
Show me your worth, Mythos!!
_THAT I MIGHT REVEL IN IT!!!!!_
Way I see it is the fight against Bahamut is the best spectacle Eikonic fight, while the Odin fight with Barnabas has the best combat.
I like how this fight has the least amount of QTEs to break the phases, mostly a combat mechanic duel
It’s a shame we never had an eikon battle but this, in my opinion, was still pretty fun
Why does it play the FFI Overworld theme when Branabas gives his speech before battle?
Can’t wait to play this in 40 yrs when in gets ported to PC
Dude got so bored with life and got so tilted with being cucked by Hugo that he became preacher for a fake religion made up by an alien who transforms into the chick he got cucked with so he can have sex with her. I’m also not including the implications of the alien transforming into Hugo and his fucking mom lmao. This character is so morbid, it’s so fucking funny. A+ Square Enix.
Barnabas is Malos but more Crazier
This game was perfect and no game has come even close to it now, it’s my opinion 😁
Too messy .. can’t see shit
As batalha contra os Boss desse game são espetaculares
Is it me or Barnabas Eikon form resembles Garland more than Odin
Ultima gives me strong Veros from Infinite Undiscovery (another excellent Jrpg) vibes. Both are gods, both manipulate the mc and the antagonist to fulfill their will, both enjoy toying with mortal lives, and both are brought to heel by their own hubris.
Oh i get it, he Zantesukens Odin himself
Clever?
is it me, or the theme at the beginning before the fight, is similar to the main theme of final fantasy 1 ?
What is happening? There’s so much going on.🥲
They should call this dude The Preacher because he ever bangs on. Good stuff starts at 5:50.
The FF XIV protag Vs the XVI protag
Why do I get the Ramsay Bolton vibe on Barnabas?
This dude is the definition of being looney.
If there’s ever a new dissidia game, I’d rather have him as the Chaos rep for FFXVI rather than Ultima. Ultima is kinda similar to Zemus from FFIV, an alien god main antagonist that’s been manipulating behind the scenes. But instead of Zemus being Chaos rep for FF4, it’s Golbez(the character he’s been controlling). I can see them doing smthn similar with having Barnabas instead for FF16 rep
Barnabas got to be one of the most unexpected plot twist considering what we theorised on him.
We thought of him as some great composed sephirothesque warlord with some goal of Darwinist freedom where eikons could rule the world.
Turns out it’s the exact opposite, he is but a clinically insane slave without will who just became complacent with his role and strength, accepting his role and fate out of loneliness and boredom with his only serotonin being the challenge that was promised to him. He is the strongest dominant but the « weakest » at the same time.
We thought Dion would be the religious meta slave but turns out it’s his nemesis
Kinda depressing ( not disappointing tho ) villain to be honest. Would like to learn more on him though.
Everyone calls this the Odin boss fight, yet Barnabas never actually uses his Eikon form
Edit: Let me rephrase, Barnabas never uses his Eikon form IN ITS OWN PHASE/FIGHT, the game stuffs him in one attack and one QTE
He talks a lot
