It’s funny, FFXVI is literally GoW (2018), yet GoW is praiseful while XVI is hated by some ppl and I’m really confused by that.

Playing the demo on xbox now, it’s boring as shit! Moves are not that exciting, cheesey acting and dialogue, very homoerotic! The hairdoos are terrible! It’s just cut scenes constantly and they’re boring to watch not even immersive I’ve started skipping them to try find combat. I feel disappointed this was the one PS game I was looking forward to playing it’s not how a imagined at all 😢

This is the strongest ending of any movie or game I’ve ever seen in my entire 40 years of entertainment! Just absolutely mental what they were able to achieve with this game, belongs in a museum! My first FF game and I’ve missed out of so much!

Will install. I’ve been a ultima fan of the lore, story, art and presentation of FF forever, but never could get into turned based and games like 12 were too slow. Ended up playing KH and it was a blast……until you get older and realize it’s kinda goofy. I loved 15, 7 remake was just meh and stranger in paradise was pretty cool. I love this Mature DmC direction 16 got. It’s like the current swing of FF (since 2016) is suited for the people that grew up on KH, but feel like they outgrew it and don’t wanna be nostalgic. Also games have come such a long way the old FF gameplay mechanics can be dated

The boss battles…oh my the boss battles. Literal God of War 3 tier if not better. I don’t get why people rated it mediocre. Ridiculous. It’s a good dark story, combat is amazing and very smooth, eikons abilities are phenomenal, voice acting is top notch. I’ve played every final fantasy game and for the above reasons this one is really doing it for me. Not to mention actual Devil May Cry devs were apart of the team.

If you love the rpg customisation, strategising, adapting, planning etc. from the previous games then you might be a bit disappointed with this one as there are no different damage types (phys vs mag, elements) status effects, any real decision making to make your build significantly different to another players or to adapt to different situations.

You can swap your abilities out, but as there are no different damage types, you’re only really changing the trajectory of the hitbox.

You find new swords but they only do more damage, so it’s not like you’re making a decision or customising your build. It’s not like “do you want to do more damage, or have more hp? Do you want to be a long range mage or a brawler?” It’s just “do you want to use the sword that does less damage, or the one that does more damage?”

Levelling up is completely linear. It’s not like you invest points into different stats. Everything just steadily increases at a rate that ensures your strong enough to defeat the enemies in the next part of the story.

Ff16 is a very fun story driven action game, but if you’re going into it looking for a new rpg experience, you’re going to be disappointed.

The fact that its linear, has no party management, little exploration, and boring forgettable side quests means absolutely nothing. Since Final Fantasy VII (1997), no other installment has engrossed me in its story like Final Fantasy XVI (2023). Originally, I got a PS5 for the FF7 Remake series, but in the wait for its sequel, I decided to try FF16, and I’m thrilled with that choice. The gameplay, music, story, and characters all earn a solid 10/10 from me. I’ve noticed influences from iconic franchises like Game of Thrones, Lord of the Rings, Matrix, and others. It’ll be a challenge for any future final fantasy game to surpass this masterpiece – it might just be the most compelling game and story in the entire Final Fantasy series. I think this officially outdoes FF7 in my book now….

The narrative is fantastic but I think the gameplay is lacking. It feels like you have less control of your character than you should for an action game.

Final fantasy 16 is bland and falls short. Extremely linear and empty world, nothing to do but follow the story. The boss battles are fake gameplay simulators. As in the QTEs are lackluster and the whole fight is an HP bar that you take down until you get to another cutscene. You can’t put HP bars over a cutscene and call it gameplay. The biggest disappointment of this year for me. Final fantasy 15 utterly destroys this game. Don’t believe me ? Play the royal edition after finishing 16 and tell me otherwise, it’s even free on playstation

Boss battles were excellent and characters were intriguing. Did miss the party system among other RPG mechanics. Combat felt like sold soul to the devil for mass appeal. When you go back to town after epic fight, the town get bland and boring. Resources were thrown down unevenly. Some areas had high scale details and others looked like a grim PS3 game. Low on my list for Final Fantasy all things considered. If this was a Devil May Cry game, it would be the best damn Devil,May Cry game ever made.

It’s an above average game at best. The polish has a lot of people fooled, the new God of War games did this action adventure style of title much better. The combat is like a stripped down Bayonetta/DMC clone, there are close to zero RPG elements, the story is a bit dull and the runtime is stretched out too much with boring fetch quests.

FF16 is my favorite video game of all time. No questions in my mind. Everything I wanted in a final fantasy game…. Everything I wanted in a video game. It is so much fun I can’t wait to play it more and more over the years. Clive is an amazing character and the supporting cast is amazing. The combat is near perfect. A few minor complaints about how they did each power but 99% positives with combat and don’t get me started on eikon battles. They are the greatest cinematic experiences in video game history. The tension the drama the questions you’re constantly asking. This is the definition of a 10/10 masterpiece to me. It’s not perfect but that’s not what a masterpiece is. This just hits every button I personally care about on a video game.

There’s no reason to explore, there’s no reason to craft except get higher stats. Which has little point anyway cause the game is so easy to begin with.

There’s no difference between weapons and armor, no status effects, no elemental effects, no role playing elements.

Side quests are absolutely terrible, albeit still better than most other FF side quests.

There’s no reason to have money, no reason to buy or sell anything. Potions and inventory is restocked if you die during battle.

I don’t get the praise this game is getting. It’s not a bad game but it’s completely mid. It’s not that immersive, the graphics are pretty mid. Side questing is a joke. The combat is pretty good, took a lot of inspiration from devil may cry since the creators had a hand to play in it. The only solid part of it is the story and of course it’s like you’re watching a movie with all the cutscenes. Compared to other FF instalments it’s up there but TO ME it’s not better than 15 where you get an open world to explore. But you can’t even compare it to other games. It is not the best final fantasy ever made, it has it’s share of flaws and missed opportunities. However where this game shines is in the connection this game will make you have with its world and characters. Getting those two elements right is what makes this game a great Final Fantasy.

Honestly my only issue with the game is how the eikon ultimate abilities break the late game and completely disincentive high level play in terms of long complex combo strings, because why do all that when you can spam your 7 instakill spells?

After playing the demo, I’m now waiting for XVII and hoping it doesn’t become a blasphemous disaster like XVI is.

The game is okay. I feel they spent their budget a little too much on visuals and should have spent more time on the story’s subplots. It started to get really tiring showing up somewhere, shit hits the fan, then I fight the boss, then do content filler side quests, then go somewhere else for shit to hit the fan again, then fight another boss, then do more content filler side quests. You repeat these 3 steps throughout the whole game. Accessories were a bore, definitely need those 2 seconds off my cooldowns. Or my 7% damage.

I love this game…im still trying to convince myself its FF but sure enough theres chocobos, a moogle, and the most brooding protagonist ever made…(aside from maybe kratos). Crazy claim amongst the titan mainstream FF titles such as FF6, FFT, FF9, hell even FF7 (yes, I much prefer the high fantasy FF titles), right? But the total package of this monumental production makes up for his claim, and I respect it. 16 has placed Final Fantasy back to the top after the abysmal string of trainwrecks from FF13 to FF15 which lasted over 14 years when I thought the true essence of the franchise was forever lost. Yes, FF16 does have its shortcomings and hell there were many but man, Yoshi P and team has indeed steered the Final Fantasy airship back in the right direction, and as a fan since childhood I’m so happy that my absolute favorite gaming franchise of all time is finally back to good form.

This game has so many great game elements put into 1. You got god of war, devil may cry, asuras wrath and that final fantasy touch all in one with 4K graphics an outstanding soundtrack and story. Overall this is one of my favorite video games ever as well.

Been playing Final Fantasy 16, which is the first one I’m playing. And I absolutely love this game and the story it’s telling. Though two of the things that were later revealed kinda figured that out pretty early on. Especially before the main character who you’re playing does. Either way, now I passed that bit of the reveal time to see how this story goes.

Ill be honest this game isnt doing it for me. Not sure how far in I am, but im kinda struggling to want to continue. I just think it’s strayed too far from the games i’ve loved. The story is solid, i love the mature tone, and the boss fights are exciting, but the in-between is feeling too bland. I dont know why im collecting loot *at all*, and exploration is nonexistent thus far. Just… not very fun for me, and that’s a sad feeling for a long time fan of the series.

I think this game could have easily been one of the best games of all time but the major drawback is that it is 75 percent cutscenes. Combat is glorious, voice acting superb, graphics beautiful. But the game takes away control from the player far too often and at the end of the day this is a videogame, not a movie. And it is so good as a movie that I would have paid top dollar for that medium of entertainment but I paid for a videogame I didn’t buy a movie ticket.

Are you all playing a diffrant game to me? Its a generic button mashing action game with no RPG elements, a ugly liniar world and possibly the most boring game ive ever played. I litrally had to collect “dirt” for a side quest then later had to find lost parcels in the exact same feild I had to collect dirt in for another side quest.

I wouldn’t say it’s the best one ever, the story is great and I’ve been so so excited since I first heard about it. However somewhere along the line while I’ve been playing it’s sorta lost me. I’ve never played dmc or gow, so I didn’t know what the comparisons meant, but if it means the type of combat we have here then I’m not sure it’s for me. Idk what exactly my problem is, but I am sad I don’t love it like I thought I would. I guess part of it is the massive downplaying of rpg stuff, the loot economy is just not there, I don’t even really explore anymore because nothing I’ve found has been worthwhile, it’s mostly crafting mats that you get anyway. I’m about a third of the way through and if I were going to fall in love I think it would’ve happened by now. Idk maybe it’s just me, nothing is really doing “it” for me lately and I’m probably just fuckin depressed again, not sure.

I’ve been a FF fan all my life and I’ve honestly been really enjoying FF16, but in order to actually let myself enjoy it for what it is, I need to leave my preconceived of what FF is at the door – the same I had to do to enjoy Solo, knowing this Han Solo isn’t being played by Harrison Ford. If you’re an old school FF and JRPG fan, and you could do this, FF16 is fun and enjoyable so far. 🤷‍♂️

I really like how the game mechanics and spell castings are different than any other game. We don’t get to use Phoenix Downs or Cure spells. We don’t get to switch party members, but it’s such a great new experience.

Haven’t gotten to try the demo yet (will when I get off work) but I am a little concerned that the gameplay itself seems to be moving more towards a devilmaycry style. While that’s really fun it just kind of takes away from the final fantasy aspect to me. But again, I haven’t actually played it yet so time will tell.
