FFXV had a HUGE world but most of it was empty and there was no reason to explore. It was basically hub cities with random groups of monsters here and there in the wild in an otherwise empty world. It might look pretty but if there’s no reason to ever go there then why include it in the game?

Why exclude the monsters and NPCs that inhabit the world if this is supposed to be a trailer showing off the world? You have a bunch of beautiful, empty environments. Large castle with no one in it. Large open plains with nothing in it. Whoever directed the trailer, big oof.

Honestly the world looks like a renaissance painting: Gorgeous, but lifeless, and static, even smoke effects look 2010’ish. Forspoken looked fantastic and see what we got.

People should know that this game isn’t going to be open world. They said something about how its going to be linear (because the main story is where their focus is) but it will have open areas we can explore. Which I’m all for. We don’t need another ffxv where the only thing the “open world” has to offer is a bunch of filler sidequests. If you’re not going to do something meaningful with the open world, don’t make it open world. This team seems to understand that.

Literally no gameplay. Walking through some nice looking but generic locations. Three blue fireball was laughable in how little impact it seemed to have. That lava pop looked like ps3 graphics. The mountain at the end was cool and the crystals were pretty but besides that it’s the same open worlds we’ve been seeing forever now.
This game is 3 months away and the best they could show us is walking. It’s gonna be awful.

What matters most to me is the story and whether or not they can fill the world with monsters. Visually Final Fantasy games have always had beautiful worlds but at least with the past couple single player games the story has been lacking, and with 15s initial release the world was nearly barren of enemies. It took dlc patches to fix both issues and even then it wasn’t as fixed as it should be (In order to understand the entire story of 15 you had to watch Kingsglaive, the anime, and take part in the dlc)(I think there was also a novel that came out explaining things further).
Hopefully they manage to get Xenoblade Chronicles level of monster population in the world, and hopefully they have a decent story that doesn’t introduce what looks like the main villain but then he disappears for half the game and we end off the game fighting a religious deity…. then again, it wouldn’t be a Final Fantasy game without fighting Yu Yevon, Necron or Griever.

Man the fantasy world building that these Japanese directors can pull off is on a different level. Elden Ring and now this 😵💫
This trailer is one guy running through 10 different landscapes. No combat gameplay, no hint of story, no sense of character from any of the featured characters. I’m looking forward to this game releasing but this trailer shows absolutely nothing of the game besides art, and with it releasing in 3 months time this trailer reeks of incomplete concepts in all other fields besides visuals.

Damn, this year of gaming have been the best in the last 3 years. Harry Potter, Resident Evil 4, Atomic Hearts, FF16, and at the end of the year Spiderman 2 and Starfield. The game that wins Game of the Year will have to overcome a lot of competition.
