I adore FF14, but I’m so tired of everything I love turning to crap: be it story writing or corporate decisions.

Dawn Trail is weak, though I personally haven’t found it “awful”. It’s mediocre at best, I find it serviceable and am only still going through it for the story lore. I don’t think I’ll be playing through it again on any alt.

And this decision?? I can understand wanting to be sure employees aren’t being ACTUALLY harrassed, but leaving it so vague that simply disagreeing can fit under breaking the new rules?

No, that’s literally begging people to dump your company. I know the devs that make FF14 are not the ones in SE coming up with these decisions, but it’s not helping them or anyone.

I guess we’re gonna see this company crumbling like Ubisoft in the future…

SquareEnix is going to find out — the whole aaa industry is going to find out — very quickly that games are a luxury product. We don’t _need_ them. It’s not like an isp that can say, “Follow our policy or we cut off your internet. Also we’re the only option in your area because local monopoly is allowed.”
I don’t have to buy your product. I don’t have to buy your game. It’s my $70 and if you want it you must _convince_ me to give it to you. Adding some bs line to the tos that allows you to take it away for arbitrary or capricious reasons… that’s not very convincing.

I personally never engage with any insane community managers but this will eventually result in them being delisted from storefronts because I doubt its legal everywhere besides japan. Some of their games still deserved my support like the mana, TWEWY and saga series but at this point regardless what I do the chance of losing your license for all the games you bought is possible, and I personally dont want to support insanity like this so even for these series I will not support anymore.

FF7 is the best game ever … the story, characters, world, gameplay, music …. everything is so perfect. FF7 will always be special to me.

SE tryna race ubisoft to bankruptcy.

I don’t think the problem is ugly character designs, but boring character designs. Stuff like Space Marine 2, Darktide or even Sekiro had tons of ugly characters in it, but no one had a problem with those because they look interesting and they fit the setting.

with that FF14 example and Sena Bryar, it doesn’t help that he literally said that “a certain group” of the FF14 fanbase were racist, transphobic, homophobic etc, there was a massive drama around that, where people found out who he was and called him out on it.

But also that SE has been struggling hard, FF14 is their only title turning a massive profit, but recently they lost atleast a 20%+ decrease in active players from 7.0 and 7.1, (from 1.3 to slightly above 1m iirc, numbers might be a bit off, the slightly above 1 mill was accurate)
maybe SE should put their heads down and think for 2 seconds instead of lashing out.
putting death threats is already illegal, being inside an office area where you’re not suppose to be is already illegal, stalking someone is already illegal, why does this need to be made more clear in company policy?
Also, I offend people on the daily, it’s impossible not to at this point, even breathing will make someone mad.

I have a bigger problem with you tube’s latest policy of giving you a 24hr ban from commenting based solely on their claim that you MIGHT have violated their community guidelines and not even a declaration that you actually did. They are taking preemptive action based on nothing more than a potential allegation of doing something wrong. Far more sinister than whatever Square is doing and impacts far more people. There is no recourse if youtube automatically decides to ban your account from commenting. You have no appeals process and they never bother backing up their claim with anything. They just screw you over and you have to deal with it. It’s absurd.

I’m a firm believer that there needs to be space for offensive humor and/or people to hang out and have fun with each other. There are plenty of people who don’t mind so called offensive humor and other stuff. They have every right to hang out and enjoy their content as the overly sensitive people have a right to be protected from it because they choose to get upset about it so often and easily. It’s a serious problem that there is such little tolerance towards being offensive.

Of all eastern devs SE seems to be the most infested with western idealogy. Its a shame. They used to make amazing games. Now they can get fucked

Using “colorful” language adds very little to a conversation. You can easily tell someone that they did something wrong without insulting, being rude or disrespectful.

What is the difference between “This game sucks donkey b*lls!” and “This game is terrible!”. They both convey the same message. It’s sad that they took this route, because I loved what they did with Final Fantasy 16, and it became one of my favorite games of all time.

It may very well be the last game I ever play from SquareEnix, however, because this dumbass decision does not warrant my support.

Considering the recent controversial plugin that was revealed by a modder for FFXIV (which basically scrapes player account data thanks to the Blacklist changes), its now possible to stalk players ingame, including their alts.

Instead of protecting their players, they make this policy update to probably protect the VA of Wuk Lamat who’s been calling the players racist on Twitter for disliking a garbage song. Like yeah, some people have been going too far but the fact they’re (seemingly) ignoring this is gonna completely destroy the goodwill of the playerbase.

Oh well, sucks that FFXIV is crumbling slowly and I hope they can correct course before the next expansion because I love the game, but at least I have Monster Hunter Wilds to look forward to in February in the meantime

There’s ways around the new policy, not just pirating, but I wouldn’t be surprised if this kind of policy became more frequent in big AAA studios. Governments have been looking to crack down on the sale of digital media as a “product a consumer owns” when in reality it’s just a license to use that product via the internet. Since the companies who have been fighting against that have no real defense and are looking for ways to control the digital marketspace via other means, this is an easy route. ‘You don’t own your games, we just license them out to you which means you have to play by our rules and terms of service’. Then people step out of line with these new extra fragile rule sets and either have to petition to get their access back or buy another license using a different email, gift card without their name on it, whatever, etc.

It’s not about protecting the emotional fragility of a small group of their disposable employees, employees who would get axed as soon as a game flopped. It’s about money, and big companies are going to capitalize and exploit these policies and these people like they always do. They will grandstand on this policy by saying they’re doing what’s right, when the people in charge no very well that they don’t give a shit and that a lot of this faddish gender identity and Cali-ego bullshit is going to age out sooner than later, it’s already lost wind in the mainstream.

Customers have a right to criticise or comment on the product. That’s how it is supposed to be. So that Harassment Policy is a problem to “Free Speech” (I’m using it loosely here) since it restricts or stops or control the narrative on things. The saying “the customer is always right” is not a saying because the customer is literally always right, it’s a saying because without people willingly giving you their money you have no business. People like the familiar, most people shop at the same store for groceries, go to the same gas stations, and buy games from companies they have liked games from in the past. Saying “yes” could lead to a lifetime customer (who may also recommend your products), whereas one “no” is all it takes for someone to leave and never come back.

Square Enix is like Bethesda. Made amazing games for a time… then just churned out slop for the next 20 years.
