D2: Loot is cool – changing the ways you play your character – and Mephisto and Diablo give the best loot. Emergent gameplay is to kill Mephisto and Diablo as much as possible, as fast as possible, with as much magic find as possible. This keeps people playing for 20 years. Just to get that specific item so your character is “complete”.

D4: Loot sucks. You can only kill the campaign bosses once. World of warcraft systems like world quests and dungeon affixes is the end game. Dark design traits such as event schedules that forces you to play at certain times.

I might be crazy, but I tried Path of Exile, Last Epoch, Grim Dawn, but liked D4 the most, but it is probably because I am not really the endgame player, I just go through story and once I am done, I quit.

People say No Man’s Sky is good now. Hell, people say Cyberpunk 2077 is good now despite it not changing that much.

I could not play diablo 4. Honestly it was so tedious and boring. Who the hell spends 100 hours on these. I spent like 3 hours and still felt like I wasted my life. Level scaling enemies so you don’t even feel like getting stronger. Gameplay is so repetitive. Endless drops with useless stuff. You waste half your play time going through the items and what is good what is not should i use that or this. Missions are crap. The forced online connection is the final nail in the coffin. The one time I died was because the connection cut off for like a minute and during that time the enemies killed me.

D4 had so much potential if they went the PoE route but no, they went with the ultra safe D2/D3 no enjoyable, repeatable, meaningful endgame progression instead.

I even have friends who refused to hear anything other than “Diablo 4 bad”, even when i’m the only one who’s played it. Which is annoying. I’m the first person to shit on Blizzard when given a chance, I disliked Diablo 3, Starcraft 2, never got into World of Warcraft.. Diablo 4 is not some disaster unplayable game. I played the campaign and enjoyed it. The end-game content was and still is a mixed bag. And it’s certainly a more casual experience than something like PoE. It has obvious flaws, and it’s perfectly fine to say it didn’t live up to your expectations. But to just write it off completely as “bad game” is just lazy.

The visual design, for example, is really good in my opinion. Environments and models look great (even if you’re zoomed in so far you can only see 3 feet around you). The story of the campaign is more grounded and mature than D3, which was little more than poorly written Diablo fanfiction.

The classes and skill trees are fairly basic, but they all feel distinct and interesting. One of my big gripes with D3 was that every class felt more or less the same, except maybe necromancer. Meanwhile, D4 has certain mechanics entirely unique to its classes that rewards experimentation in multiple playthroughs.

The more modern shop and crafting systems, while flawed, add a much needed layer of depth to the game (“damage on Tuesdays” aside.) A lot of ARPGs and really any loot-driven game, like Borderlands, can quickly devolve into “Is it a max rarity at my level? No? Then it’s complete garbage”.

And that’s just a few nice things I can say about D4. Is the game perfect? No. And to call Activision Blizzard’s business practices abhorrent would be too nice to them. But if people ever want the industry to improve, you can’t just indiscriminately shit on anything and everything. Be super critical, for sure, but also make it clear what the good points of a game are, or just don’t bother joining the discussion in the first place.

i just want MS to release one blizzard game a month, start with diablo, next warcraft, and just steamroll it all out on gamepass, that’s a win win all around.

Warhammer 40k inquisitor is arguably that worlds first arpg and without 30+ years of genre defining mechanics, they still did it a million times than Diablo 4. Diablo 4 is hands down the most expensive waste of a live service game ever made.

I hadn’t decided that D4 was bad but I didn’t trust it enough to commit the 70 USD. Now that it’s on Game Pass I finally gave it a fair shot and I must say I was… kinda bored? I’m a casual enjoyer of the ARPG genre since D2 so it seemed like I was the target audience for the game. The art, graphics and music are all top nothc and the writing’s decent but the gameplay just feels kinda sluggish. Too mindless even for an ARPG. I don’t give a shit about the discourse surrounding Blizzard but the game was just boring. I could probably name 10 better ARPGs off the top of my head.

The problem with those nerds is they treat D4 as some kind of live-service MMO – it pretends to be one, but it’s not. 90% of players literally got their AAA campaign experience and are done with the game. D4 is clearly aimed for casual audience, with focus on campaign and cool looking combat in the first place. You gotta be crazy to squeze end-game and looting from it when D3, Grim Dawn, Last Epoch and even Wolcen exist. Not even talking about PoE here (that’s another level and not for everyone), but I think there is more fun and build making in Torchlight 2 currently than in D4. D4 never aimed to be proper ARPG, and it is visible in everything – starting from battle passes, focus on cosmetics and visuals more than actual gameplay, itemization or build making. Until they reach *at least* Diablo 3 level (which is not that high lol) in terms of itemization and builds, game is just going to be worse gameplay wise.

If there was no paid DLC/Expansion I would be more willing to try it again after it becomes good, but i already spent $90 CAD for the base game and they ask an other $50+ CAD for the expansion.. No Thanks.

i played the season 4 PTR, it was waaaayyy better…
the new itemization system is 10x better, masterworking is awesome, you can truely make some insane builds with it.
only thing i didnt like was the maximum times you could temper an item is 5 times.
if you get the wrong roll/reroll on an item, you cant keep rolling after 5. and if it gets stuck on a bad roll, you end up being pissed off because you
have to look for a new peice with favorable stats and try again…

I think we all want to see the game get better but Blizzard gave us a shit game, we all realized it and now they have to work harder to earn back our trust and reverse the narrative. They created that situation so they have no one to blame but themselves.

On the opposite end look at Helldivers 2, exceptional game with fun progression, mechanics and replayability. Even though they released a bunch of patches nerfing “meta” (which did piss us off), HD2 retained a majority of their player base because the game is good.

Having it finally come on special being unimpressed with the beta I thought why not give D4 a chance surely they have made the game appealing now. I have played this franchise since Diablo 1 and can say D3 though it had its over populated servers had massive demon swarms tried a AH and had the D2 legacy to uphold. D4 has no excuses I am sorry to say. Do the developers not play their own game cause these fights are so bad…. To be zoomed in so you miss enough of the fight you have to become ultra instinct character counting out the timings is so lame to just blow out all your cooldowns then rinse repeat what a great fight. Oh wait this boss will just fill the whole screen which you could barely see at it was so now you have to pray and find a spot while you spray back and finally win so fun….. Now who can name the bosses…. that’s right its all of the basics and lesser evils cause they have no back story if any like wtf

The gear lvl is way out. It will drop lvls below you like makes no sense wtf is going on fighting mobs of your lvl and you get gear lower than you. Then you go to hell and the gear drops and it was to high to even equip like by 3 lvl wtf….
Frankly I hope the PTR is making so massive changes but atm its 3-4 out of 10. D4 has made a joke of the lore frankly thought Lillith was a interesting twist but the way it got told because of the graphics zoomed in as well from the get goo had ruined the immersion. Its a shame hopefully season 4 makes some huge changes.

i played every season , made a new char and picked the class i did not play yet, then quit playing when i got to 100 and got the gear i wanted. it does not take that long and the build up of a new build and char is still fun to me every time. the new mechanics they added are ok, however the last boss was garbage, 2 unique crab runes that never drop on a “hard” boss and are only relevant on the current season. The drop rate needs to be a lot higher to make me want to do that content which i irrelevant the next season.

Glad it came out to gamepass, feel like I dodged a bullet by not having to pay $70+ for what is argueably only worth $30.

I enjoyed the main game. Played enough that I feel like I got my money’s worth, but was really expecting long lasting fun that just didn’t happen. Was very disappointing. Doubt that I will pick up the expansion, unless it changes the game greatly. For now, I’ll just continue to spread managed democracy.

Honestly i didn’t event thought about playing D4.. I’ve played a lot of d3 but it’s over with blizzard & activision for me.

People acknowledged that the D4 Season2 changes were very good and they had fun with it. So what Asmon said that they wouldn’t “admit” that D4 would eventually be good isn’t true at all. In addition to that we got plenty of examples that say the same: No Man’s Sky, Cyberpunk and most likely some other stuff I don’t know of.
So, no. Make a good game and everything is fine. If your game is dogshit then it’s dogshit. No need for mental gymnastics, no hidden magic anywhere – It’s that simple.

If people are negative about something then ask yourself why that is; maybe they have a different perspective on things, for example in D4 case. Compare it with other products of it’s genre. If you think the game is fine, sure. Go ahead. But it certainly isn’t a good standard for ARPGs by any stretch, so if people say it’s still dogshit they are not really wrong considering where this game is coming from and what resources are working behind the scenes.

i played a shit ton of D4 and its mediocre, 30 minutes in no rest for the wicked, destroyed my 400+ hours. The game is fundamentally damaged, and that will not change, just like it didnt changed in new world, a great game with a lot of great ideas, dead right now.

I like looking good, so when i saw that the game starts throwing reskinned sets at you early on i kinda just got demotivated and took a break. Which im still on. It was the bomeweaver sorc set and smth else. Overall very disappointing. And damn the lack of color options.

D4 was my first introduction to ARPG games and it was probably my last. It was fine till i got to endgame and just lost all sense of enjoyment.

This video and Asmon’s take is exactly what happened with Overwatch 2. The game is actually really, really good right now, and most of the people who review bombed it were people who barely played it, the internet just decided that it was bad for various reasons.

Most of those reasons have been worked on and have been improved for the better, but the most important thing: the game is fun. The balance is fine. There’s new, free content, all the time. People who actually play the game are loving it, the only hate you see for the game right now is from people who quit the game years ago.

Blizzard games seem to always have this curse where they’ll make some bad moves, people quit, and even if the thing that made people quit is barely an issue in the modern game now, people will still use it as an excuse as to why the game is bad years later. Blizzard is too big of a company for them to be given the credit of ever “fixing” their games, like Hello Games was given with No Man’s Sky. They actually do fix their games, people just don’t give them credit for it.

I played a character (sometimes two) to lvl 100 in every season. Have finally tried all 5 classes. I will probably come back and play again when S4’s out. That being said, I still think it’s not a good game, but it’s somewhat enjoyable for me.

I think… Hear me out… After Activision took over blizzard… We saw what?… Now Microsoft comes in.. “let blizzard be blizzard”… 🤷. A crapshoot, only time will tell. But… Perhaps Microsoft’s acquisition will prove to play better than Activision’s “handlings”

IMO Diable 4 is bad because modern Blizzard has shown it can’t constantly deliver a good experience. The idea of paying for a full price game where the experience is a crap shoot for each season seems foolish. Maybe after year or two of delivering consistently a good game, and I have cleared my backlog of other games I want to play. I might check it out.

I have Diablo 4, played before sezon one, a little in sezon one and it was a garbage game. Campainig was great but it didn’t offer anything except this.
I heard Diablo 4 was better. so I watched someone who was streaming it and I saw nothing interesting. Still fcking boring endgame like hell. I was bored watching it to the extend it was not worth my time downloading diablo 4 again.
I am waiting for better times for Diablo, but if they will “fix” a game with an expansion/dlc then I will never play this game again, because for this money I paid i require game to be playable without any other payments.

Diablo 4 endgame is boring and compared to POE it doesnt have enough builds that can clear all end game content and feel motivated to just use meta build and when there is already limited amount of builds the meta build is littery 1-3 builds max that are actually good with fast clearing and it gets boring once reach lvl 80s and 95+ is just NM dungoen and Duriel farms and just way to repetative and i like repetitive gameplay when there is huge amount of content like POE has instead of 1-3 options

The levels of disappointment of D4 being bad after Immortal are astronomical. They didn’t need to try and reinvent the wheel, they had successful arpgs to take inspiration from and yet they couldn’t even figure out fucking stash tabs in a $70 AAA game. The incompetence is unreal. So I can fully understand the dog piling.

I don’t think D4 can ever fully recover, hopefully Blizz uses it as a learning experience for D5.

i have like 3 to 500 houres in d1 around 800h in d2 and 500h in d3… d4 took me not much more than 20 houres to get bored of… blizzard killed my investment into the series. that only happens when games get developed not for the consumer and experiance but repeatedly for the financial backers that don´t even play the games. it´s always the same and my “gaming vacation retreat” to hold me sane in this sh.t a.s world that holds almost no wonder in my eyes. for the world is flooded by economical ways of thought without regard towards ppl who can´t or are not willing to surrender their soul to earn to spend and shit and sleep and chase dreams that get created by ppl with money and power to further their own goals and pockets while you keep spending you money time and health just to be able to afford raising a kid… or getting a coffee that is worth more than 40 cents… oh wait… why am i ranting ?

D4 is bad and it cannot be fixed. How do you fix an empty world? How do you fix pointless end-game existence? The whole point of Diablo is the growing in power and killing ever more difficult mobs and constantly improving gear/power. End-game cuts that progress to a trickle. the game ends in endgame. d2 you fought to get to ;vl 99, iy was long and difficult. D4 you get to “99” in a week and then its repeating boring content.
