Good lord, I’m hard cringing at people siding with Lilith, even after witnessing the entire Lore of Diablo 4.
Let’s take this apart point by point.
1. People don’t realize how bad Lilith with Mephisto’s essence would actually be. She’d be basically immortal, have insane powers and – and here comes the juicy part – CORRUPT PEOPLE WITH HER PRESENCE (Take the order of Zakarum’s fall due to Mephisto as an example of this). She’d become Hate incarnate and no good intentions can ever come from that, one would assume.
2. If she obtained Mephisto’s essence and we’d let her walk freely into sanctuary, there’d be no stopping her. She can manipulate people however she sees fit, therefore transforming Humanity into whatever she wants.
3. And what she wants is an army to END the eternal conflict. Not only to participate, but to END it. Can you imagine? The MILLENIA of pain and suffering? Fighting, death, destruction and suffering for not only two parties (heaven and hell), but now Sanctuary finally gets to hard engage with that cozy lifestyle! For a loooooooong time. NEAT.
4. To achieve any of this, she’d first reform humanity. Thinking back to her dialogue with Elias: “Let the weak fend for themselves.”. She’d have to turn an entire species into literal heartless murder machines – the one thing that Inarius was afraid of btw, since it throws off the balanced/dual nature that humanity was supposed to have.
5. We’ve witnessed some of her cult’s doings over the course of the game, but to summarize: Sacrifces, demon summons, bloodletting, torture of others (weaker people), killing in every savage way you can imagine. Also, i’d like to point at the very least at Andariel, which needed LOOOOOTS of suffering in order to be summoned and bound. Let’s have her as pet, at least every decade or so, yes? It just requires like thousands and thousands of people suffer, wh’s counting.

There are other points to be made, but i think i’ve made myself clear as to why she’s not a shepherd and instead a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

I need a little help with the storyline:
1) Was Inarius captured by Mephisto before he and Lilith created Sanctuary, or after he had banished Lilith and left Sanctuary (because she had killed the other angels and demons they had fled to Sanctuary with)?
2) Isn’t Rathma (one of the original Nephalem) still alive not long before Diablo 4 undermining lore? Apparently people like Donan knew about him and could inform Inarious of his prophecy, but Tyrial did not know about him in Diablo 4 when a Nephalem was sorely needed. – They could have fixed this by having his prophecy and death happen in the time of the Nephalem.

Also, I understand why siding with Lilith could have potential drawbacks, and why you would want humanity not subservient to anybody, but by all accounts throughout the lore she just wanted humans to be strong enough to survive/escape the eternal conflict. It seemed a mistake not to take her hand.

Neyrelle is so affing annoying bro, literally she’s the same batch as Rey, Captain Marvel and the others, a Mary Sue who achieves everything, without doing anything to deserve it.

Great characters, great visuals, incredibly poor story. Mephisto’s one line near the end throws the whole plot in the garbage: “If Lilith takes my essence, Sanctuary is lost.” Lilith’s entire arc is about being the mother of Sanctuary, not its destroyer. What makes her a compelling character is that she isn’t a one dimensional, all powerful villain. She needs the help of other demons to achieve her goals, and she offers everyone she meets, good or evil, a choice along the way. As the story builds, we want to know what she’ll do with Mephisto’s power once she gets it. Mephisto randomly blurting out ‘If she gets it, Sanctuary is lost’ makes absolutely no sense at all. It undermines all Lilith’s actions and makes this entire installment little more than an anime filler arc, which sucks, because it’s a freaking beautiful game.

I think it’s pretty weak too that you’re basically trailing two steps behind Lilith the whole game, then Mephisto just teleports you ahead of her right at the end to safeguard his power. Ok. Great.

I’ve been playing Diablo since Windows 95 via CD, I’ve followed the story very closely since then, I haven’t had the chance to read all the books, much less have a machine to play Diablo 4 unfortunately, but from what I’ve been able to follow in the cinematics, the Bllizard gave a more certain destination for the game, different from what was the 3rd, less colorful, less cute, Diablo 4 returned to the essences, much closer to the real terror that was the masterpiece: Diablo 1, the best of all. To everyone who can play, please do so with great respect as it is something worthy of applause.

Diablo IV is set in the past, before Diablo 3. Blizzard confirmed this a long time ago. For those of you in the comment section trying to explain that this takes place after D3, no it doesn’t. This may be the fourth game, but it’s the prequel to game three. If you remember, Rathma was the first necromancer and he’s shown in this game. Granted, yes, he’s dead, if this game was set after the events of D3, the necromancers wouldn’t exist during the events of D3. The necromancers call themselves the Priests of Rathma. Kinda hard to be a priest of someone who isn’t even around yet. Therefore, this game is set in the past.

Our character is not listening to what the prime evil is saying, “we” are choosing the lesser problem between the two. Listening to Lilith meant genocide of the “weak”. If this is real world, it literally mean “you” are the first to die. Many people have this illusion that they are the strong – stemming from some weird stupid western alpha belief. Mephisto was no better. This is why “we” contain him within a soul stone. The writers actually acknowledge the flaws of the stones and its history in game through Donan and Lorath. But again, with no other solutions than to wipe out Anu, creation itself, the stone is a desperate last attempt to contain the problem.

What many people do not realize in this binary world, is that Heaven and Hell literally cannot win. The total destruction of evil, will only lead to reset of it as long consciousness and free will exist. This is a inherit and narrow Abrahamic religions belief. The world of Diablo is heavily influenced by it. “We” are trapped in a endless cycle.

The opening cinematic was so good, everything else felt cheap and poorly written. The dialogue was full of cliché. And so much recycled material… So the knowledge from d2 that soulstones are actually a get out of hell free card for the prime evils was completely lost in both d3 and d4? Are all the diablo games going to be the same plot over and over? Put them in soul stones so they can manifest on earth and a lot of people die over and over again?

Elias is the best character conceptually, design-wise and story-wise. The opening cinematic featuring him was what “sold” us Diablo 4. He deserves much more than his untimely death. His skills/spells were so underwhelming, it was way too easy beating him. His immortality secret should *NOT* have been discovered in Diablo 4. He should have vanished in dusts upon losing that final fight only to re-appear in epilogue to scheme a new unholy cosmic / inter-dimensional war on resurrecting villains/antagonists from the previous Diablo universe. Blizzard could have done so much with his character. What a shame. What a loss.

They absorb mephisto into the stone, he still wanders in the form of the wolf and makes portals, why didn’t he teleport her to where he manipulated her to wander to ( obv will be DLC that it was all his masterplan)

Thanks for sharing and the upload. That cemented my decision not to buy the game; it was dreadful. Gone is the brilliance of the past games, to be replaced by this formulaic, generic, bland drivel which was so nonsensical and unfocused it became an utter chore. The loss of Western lore to be replaced with Eastern influences didn’t help either, neither did the bland ESG tick box characters and the subtle political speech at the start by Lilith.

Not saying it’s easy in any way, but why can’t a real movie maker have a look at this and make a real movie based on this mind set. Instead we get the rubbish/trash woke garbage from Disney and Lukasfilm.
Just put one tenth’s of the money from that crap into this and you will get a box office hit.

I realized that ninja turtles would fit the diablo world just well cuz they are melee and use no real tech then their weapons.They can just call th turtle demons or stuff, making hybrids is a normal thing in this setting.
