Blizzard’s long-awaited sequel to Diablo 3 has near perfect endgame and progression design that makes it absolutely excruciating to put down. The story is a disappointment despite still being a noticeable improvement over Diablo 3 and there are some annoying bugs that need squashing, but the combat, the loot game, and both the sights and sounds of this world are impressive enough to smooth over those rough edges. Diablo 4 takes the strategy of refining things the series already did so well rather than giving it a more substantial overhaul, and that careful and reverent path has shaped this massive sequel into one of the most polished ARPGs ever created.

Who needs a story? Diablo is about killing monsters. If the story was nothing more than: “Monsters exist…kill them,” I’d be happy.
In terms of gameplay, this is the most accessible top down action RPG since Baldurs Gate DA/DA2, but the microtransactions of course ruin everything.

Probably the worst big release I’ve ever seen.
The game has little to no skiIIs, tons of them are unfun, can barely be modified or are just outright bad to the point where they aren’t viable. Diablo 3 was way better than this, you had plenty of skills that were completely changed with passives you could choose. Diablo 4 took basically all of them away and the few they give you come from random legendary drops, so you might not even get it. Ridiculous. Who greenlit this game?

It’s like the NBA2K games. The grind is heavyyyy, but if you’re willing to shell out money, you can bypass a lot of that. It’s cool, but the abundance of micros just feels insulting.
Train wreck user score on metacritic again. If you look at the 1.5 point deviation between Reviewer and User on games like Elden ring or Tears of the Kingdom you go fair enough but not the 4 points or more on the last 2 Diablo games. Reviewers have got it horribly wrong again. Forgivable if its the first time but its the second time.
Diablo 4 is a flop. Sorry blizzard, it should be the end of your legacy.

I’ve played the Diablo series since the launch of D1, but my excitement for this game has somehow been zero. This hyped up review for it doesn’t make the environments look any less bland. Maybe the awful story of D3 and the moronic enemies ruined my opinion of the series.
The review is so positive. And the game looks tempting enough for me to buy a PC to be able to play. Something that makes me a bit nervous, a quick google search shows that they reviewed Diablo 3 with an even higher rating: 9.5/10. So… mmmm. IDK. With a game like this it’s almost like I’d need to wait 6+ months to have complete and reliable messages coming from the player base.

Can confirm the build system is very well thought out and fun! Started as Rogue, went bow first and that was fun but then swapped to a dual wield dagger build and that was even more fun cuz of the insane mobility and trickery lol. It’s spicy cuz ur squishy asf but you do insane burst dmg to clear before they hit

Just a word to those who are interested. To login the wait is ridiculous and more often than not on Xbox you get an error code and have to start the whole process over again. Not to mention the the estimated wait times minute mark must use a minute length that the rest of the world doesn’t use. In short wait until the full release and save yourself the frustration.

It is just that barbs are overpowered in the endgame because they cried loud that leveling to 20 and some of the buffs greatly screwed the endgame. Like 100% crit chance whirwind through a single Aspect.

$70 price tag, and all the other questionable design choices, bugs, and repetitive randomized dungeon bosses, I’d say 7/8. The way this reviewer acts sometimes seems like he has never played other ARPGS. He called something innovative or NEVER before seen, when cheaper/f2p ARPGS that are much older has already done those things lol. Don’t get me wrong D4 isn’t bad. But 9 is pushing it. Also the game can either get better, or they will ruin it like they have been doing with Overwatch and WoW classic. Blizzards/Actisisions greed knows no end. Activision has even made COD p2w and is pissing off all their consumers.

Kind of disappointing story is a weakpoint, but from what I’ve seen in beta Diablo 4 is a pretty strong on almost all fronts and story might get better with the future expansions.
D2 and d3 were also 80% side story filler with side quests, so it doesnt sound bad that its similar with d4. A heavier story just makes repeated plays more tedious

How much of an optimist are you, claiming rare hitches like queues/disconnects and the always-online requirement being a net positive? Benefits like the sense of discovery and all that could be achieved perfectly well without a NEED to be online, but rather optional. As far as genre is concerned, blizzard have been overrun by indie games now. For ARPG, though, they have a LONG way to go before they reach the like of Hades and V Rising; arguably the best recently. Why? Because they INNOVATE and are NOT SEQUELS.

Nowhere near close the music and atmosphere of the first two games. It’s just dark and that’s it, the pacing doesn’t allow the game to have any suspense. And agreed about the story. These are the main things that hooks me into ARPGs, not just the loot and progression.

Story should have more weight on the final score. Story is as important as gameplay and graphics. So the correct score is probably 7.5 or 8

Hope this game is welcoming to casuals. Never really played a Diablo game, but excited to try it.
Diablo 4 is a great game; that’s not the issue. However, having only five classes after nearly a decade of development feels insufficient. Hopefully, the expansion will introduce additional classes.
It’s been a long time since I’ve been this excited! Diablo 4 and Street Fighter 6 in the same weekend and Final Fantasy 16 later this month.. it’s a pretty exciting time

Blizzard is busy competing rather than Innovating, and it shows. Dont get us wrong Competition is a key driver of innovation, but Blizzard has rested on ther laurels for way too long. They can keep chasing the monetization route but eventually their competitors will innovate and leave them behind.
States it’s the best Diablo game yet. They gave D3 a 9.5 and D4 a 9.

Same creatures, mostly same spellsskills as previous games.. To me D4 is a coat of paint and a missed opportunity. Not worth the current $90 price tag. Oh and why is there so much fog everywhere?!? Even inside houses and catacombs, makes everything look washed out.
